i was tagged by the wonderful @sincewerealone to list my top albums of the year. as per usual, trying to narrow down to a top 9 of the year just ended up highlighting all the albums i HAVEN’T listened to and/or wish i had spent more time with over the past year for me, especially this year where it feels like i was generally more playlist-focused in my listening. but nevertheless, here’s a few albums/EPs that i really loved this year (first three are fixed, anything after that can change depending on the day):
1. maggie rogers, heard it in a past life: i’ve been listening to this so steadily for so long it feels like it’s been in my life for AGES. it’s so warm and familiar in a way that only the most soul-bonded of albums can be and i looooove it so much. favorites: say it, the knife, give a little / ALL OF IT
2. picture this, modern love: one of the biggest surprises for me this year. it’s SO different than their first album (which i liked but wouldn’t say i LOVED), but the upbeat pop sound had me hooked from the first moment. favorites: everything or nothing, one drink, dance away with you, hurt nobody
3. sharon van etten, remind me tomorrow: i haven’t had a ton of time with this album, as it’s a pretty recent recommendation, but gritty yet atmospheric sound combined with those lyrics was a punch in the gut from the first listen. favorites: i told you everything, jupiter 4, no one’s easy to love
4. ariana grande, thank u next: the cohesion, the storyline, the BOPS??? i’m a huge fan of an album with a clear concept and voice, and thank u next 100% delivered.  favorites: bad idea, bloodline, nasa
5. julia michaels, inner monologue part 1 and 2: i love julia. her songs are always so fun and recognizably HER. i think overall, i prefer part 1 to part 2, but both parts are great. favorites: what a time, body, 17, into you
6. miley cyrus, she is coming: such a great blend of all her previous styles and it fucking SLAPS (tho Cattitude is definitely a Choice and only slaps ironically hgaldkjf) favorites: mother’s daughter, d.r.e.a.m., the most
7. hozier, wasteland baby!: i mean...it’s hozier. no one does it like him. favorites: talk, almost (sweet music), no plan
8. aly & aj, sanctuary EP: they literally have not put out a single bad song since their comeback, and these songs are no exception. honestly, who would have expected that the aly & aj comeback would feature 80s-inspired-haim vibes??? favorites: sanctuary, not ready to wake up, church
9. sigrid, sucker punch: bop after bop after bop, but with a few mellow moments to keep a nice balance to the listening experience overall. basically the perfect springtime album. favorites: strangers, sucker punch, dynamite
honorable mentions:  lewis capaldi, divinely uninspired to a hellish extent HER, i used to know her maren morris, girl billie eilish, when we all fall asleep where do we go lizzo, cuz i love you  taylor swift, lover

fanfic writer q&a’s bc new account
doing one of these here instead of twt to.. idk... think of this as the rice on the ground of this account.. the ceremonial whateverning. also, i like talking about myself.
Tumblr media
answers after the line break (i’m not listening to the like = answer thing tho)
1. depends on the situation. if i’m sitting down to write, like intentionally, i will usually play music. it depends on what i’m writing. i have playlists for many fics, so i will play those, or a playlist that fits the tone of what i’m working on, maybe even an album. otherwise, i go for the lo-fi hip hop beats, because at this point i’ve been conditioned to focus when it’s playing.
2. i have ruksana!! she’s usually the first person to see my work, idk what i would do without her. i do sometimes leave fics unbeta’d (only ones i post impulsively though, lol)
3. third person. on occasion, there may be a first person pov line or two, but the perspective overall doesn’t change. my poetry, however, is in first/second person usually.
4. both! depends on my mood + what feels best for the story. i usually default to present tense, but i’ve been writing past tense more recently.
5. short and sweet. however, i do have two longfics i plan to get out this year. oikage vertigo, and yuka character study 2.
6. one-shots! though, again, i am attempting multichapter fics. they’re just more difficult, so it’s an adjustment.
7. yes! i like rarepairs! even if they don’t really make sense in canon. it’s fun to explore characters and potential relationships. however, i’ve never actually written for a proper rarepair... unless you consider furusawa and yatoyuka rarepairs lol (i don’t think they are - though daiya fandom sucks & definitely does not give much attention to anything other than m*sawa)
8. in character. i don’t think a character needs to be EXACTLY like in canon, but too much deviation from their character takes me out of the story. might as well just make a new character at that point. also it’s just easier to write lol. besides, in my opinion, you can deviate from canon however u want, as long as the character still feels like themselves, if u get what i mean.
9. idk if i have a favourite trope. domesticity and slice of life maybe? angst? is angst even a trope lol? i enjoy sadness, i guess? oh i really enjoy the cliche of characters just Looking at one another, and pining. i think the looking & not looking is so fun, it makes me want to off myself <3
10. no
11. oikage, yatoyuka, furusawa, miyumei, furumiyu, beigguang, (some other genshin ships maybe.. idk yet. i will probably lose my shit over azdaha and zhongli), kagehina, tsukikage  .... these are so many lol
12. mis*wa (fandom is so obsessed for no reason.. also they look like cousins) and sak**tsu (fandom ruined them so quick)
13. fluff usually. i’ve never written smut lol. actually... i may have some light smut in my vertigo fic, but that’s still to be decided. smut is not my forte, but my friends said i was doing alright, so i’m not discouraged by any means.
14. both <3
15. i don’t? or i do? idk. i just think of scenes/lines/scenarios that are SUPER SPECIFIC, and eventually, over time, i have a whole fic done
16. i don’t plan shit. i mayyyy have a rough outline, but it’s super loose. i usually just write as i go, out of order, and then piece it together into something comprehensible. hasn’t failed me yet.
17. yes! i think it’s fun to do so.
18. ‘ravenette’ ‘bluenette’ (or any unnecessary physical descriptor in place of pronouns or the character’s name) i see too much of this & i loathe it. just say the character’s name for heaven’s sake; i promise it feels much more natural than the hair colors.
19. um... planning. lol. idk how to construct stories. well, i do. however, a vague outline is not the same as a finished work. translating my ideas into words can be difficult, and a plot is terrifying. that’s why i write so out of order, it’s more natural for me. also i do this for fun, structuring it would make me nervous, and nervousness leads to anxiety, which leads to me not having fun. however, i do write quite routinely, almost every day, it’s just a habit at this point.
20. this is less advice, and more a tip. whenever i feel like a scene isn’t working, i either step away and come back to it later, or.... i will write out the scene/what i think/want from it in my notebook. changing the medium in which you work helps see it with fresh eyes. same goes for location! feel weird? sit at your desk instead of the bed! sit on the floor! sit in the kitchen! sit on the balcony! environmental novelty rocks!!!!

sing to me (part one)
Tumblr media
paring: female!V x Johnny Silverhand
summary: a street kid V falls in love with SAMURAI music and idolises Johnny Silverhand. years later she finally understands the saying “never meet your idols”
warnings: angst and fluff, Johnny being a dick as always, arguments, Jackie and V are like siblings, Mama Wells is the best, grief, V plays the guitar, more/different warnings in the future parts
note: I’m describing my V, but you can imagine her however you want tho
•SAMURAI fan V (street kid)•
Ever since she heard “Never Fade Away” playing on some radio on the streets, she fell in love with it.
She was around 13 and world was shitty, she was angry at the corpos and other rich bastards (her rebellious years really).
So finding out that basically the whole SAMURAI was fucking the corpos and singing about it? Also that Johnny Silverhand bombed Arasaka? Fucking legendary.
One of the happiest days of her life.
V started scavenging for their old records, t-shirts and shit like that. And her first payment for stealing some shard from some corpo fuck, went for a new record player.
When she hit 17, V snuck into some fancy bar to see Kerry Eurodyne playing. Of course he was playing some of his own songs, but couple of SAMURAI ones were there.
Another great day in her life.
Turning 21 instead of going drinking or something like that. V found herself at a music store, buying her first guitar.
For a year she was teaching herself how to play. To the point where her fingertips started scaring, from all the times she played until she bleed.
At 22 she played at some bar, earning some descent money. And a broken nose from some fuck who dared to insult her playing.
He of course looked far worse than she did.
That was when she met Jackie, while trying to steal a car.
Apparently getting your shit beaten out of you by cops, was a great start of a friendship.
Greatest day in her life.
She stopped sleeping in an old warehouse and moved in with Jackie, to his mama’s basement.
V felt the happiest there, the warmth and freedom of her new home. That’s how she wrote her first song.
“You should be a musician, you’re really talented” said Mama Wells as she came upon V humming and playing out on the balcony, Jackie sitting next to her with a beer.
V laughed but didn’t stop playing “Yeah sure”
“Mama is right! You could be a star chica” Jackie said, being as optics always.
“You could play at El Coyote Cojo during the weekends” Mama Wells said with a smile.
“I don’t know, the last time I played at a bar it ended up in a fight” V said, chewing on her lip.
“Chica... I’ll be your bodyguard. I’ll even wear a suit!” said Jackie with a grin.
V laughed “I sure would like to see that”
“So, I’m going to tell Pepe to set everything up for you” said Mama Wells with a smile “Now come on ninõs, dinner is ready”
And so for three years, V was regularly playing at Mama Wells’ bar.
Some people even got inside just to listen to her play and sometimes sing whenever she felt like using her words to channel even more emotions through her music.
And then came the worst couple of days of her life.
“Dexter Deshawn!!! Can you believe it V?! We could finally be on top!” said Jackie on their way to Afterlife.
V smiled at her friend, as her heart screamed that it wasn’t what she wanted anymore. When she met Jackie she wanted to the best of the best.
But after so many years with music? She longed to play. Even to get her own album someday!
And yet she bit her tongue, buried her dreams thinking.
I’ll help Jackie get on top and then I’ll take care of my own dreams.
But it didn’t happen.
Jackie died along with V’s musical soul, right in that Delamain. As the rain poured against the windows, creating an off rhythm that reminded her of her stuttering and crushed heart.
Next thing she knows after that, is that she died.
Then woke up.
Got saved by Takemura.
Nearly died again.
And once again woke up, this time at Vik’s.
Panic was clawing at her chest as she remembered hazily her hallucinations, tears gathered in her eyes as she didn’t know what was happening to her.
“These hallucinations... explain them to me”
“I-I’m on stage... but not at El Coyote... I don’t recognise it. T-The music is loud and aggressive... familiar in a way but I can’t remember it clearly anymore... lights are shining on my face as I scream to the crowd. I-I’m full of rage and no matter how much I’ll scream... it won’t go away...”
She then chuckled humourlessly “And then... just don’t laugh at me. I bombed the Arasaka tower...”
“Nothing there to laugh about, kid...” Vik said, his eyes showing sadness.
“The worst part is that... I can still feel this rage. And some... frustration? Irritation? But I-I don’t know why. I don’t feel that way? Then why?”
Vik sat down, saying “These hallucinations.. they were memories. There’s a personality construct on that shard. Dreams you had, were from his past”
“So you’re saying that... I was experiencing another psyche’s memories? How’s that even possible?” V asked, the alien irritation in her head growing.
“You two are connected in a way that I can’t make head or tail out of”
“Two? Me and who Vik? Who’s in my head?” she asked, anxiety growing in her chest.
“Johnny Silverhand. A terrorist. A real talk of the town back in my days”
V’s breath got stuck in her throat as she said “You’re saying... that there’s a dead rockerboy in my head. The same one who played with SAMURAI?”
Victor just nodded, and the fear inside her grew.
But that wasn’t even the worst part yet.
“He’s overwriting your consciousness. You don’t have much time left kid... few weeks tops”
V cried with fear begging Victor to help her, but there’s nothing he could do.
Nothing anyone could do.
The same night she met him. The guy that she admired as a kid. The guy who was a part of her favourite band. The guy who inspired her into making her own music.
And the guy who was killing her.
Silverhand tossed her around her apartment, surprising her with that fact that he could touch her.
It made her afraid of him. Because no one would help her if he suddenly decided to kill her. To them it would seem like cyber psychosis.
But still she fought back. She had nothing to loose after Jackie. She glared at him, yelled at him and crawled her way towards the pills.
“Fuck off!” she said to him, seconds before he dematerialised. With that she laid down and fell asleep on the ground, her body too exhausted to move.
Next morning was hell for her.
Her head was in agony not only from the fact that she was shot in the head, but also because it got smashed into a window.
She washed herself, took care of her broken nose, dressed in her favourite black leather pants, grey sleeveless hoodie and black biker vest. Putting on her combat boots and pulling the hood over her still damp peach-pink hair, she left her apartment.
As she was leaving the bloc, Takemura called her. Asking to meet up.
V didn’t want to, but the man was persistent. So finally she agreed and still feeling like shit, took the metro to their meeting place.
Takemura was easy to find, his clean and fancy clothing standing out.
The man seemed reliable and openly spoke about what he wanted. She could work with that.
After Goro left, V let out a deep breath. A feeling of hope finally igniting in her, that maybe. Just maybe, she’ll be able to survive.
But that moment of peace lasted only couple of seconds as Silverhand appeared, sitting in front of her as if he was really there, tapping his hands against the table.
“Zapper-dumples and filth. In some ways, Night City never changes. Arasaka’s still a despotic machine and the world’s on a collision course with chaos. But hey, at least Rogue’s still alive” the man said, his leg on the table looking like a jackass.
Or a rockerboy.
V’s fear and anger bleed into one as she said angrily and quite loudly.
“You know, you got some nerve. First you’re out to kill me, now you wanna be my choom? Make like nothing happened?”
People turned to stare at her as if she’s lost her mind. Making her realise that, yeah. Only she could see that fucker.
And to think that she idolised the bastard as a kid.
Silverhand looked around at the people saying “You know you don’t gotta speak out loud to talk to me?”
V glared at him, her fingers twitching.
“What. Do. You. Want” she said in her mind.
“I’ve processed some shit, changed my mind. Don’t want you dead anymore”
“Go fuck yourself, you fucking dick” she said angrily, pointing her finger at him.
“Hey, wasn’t easy for me, either. You woke up in a landfill, I woke up in your head. Wrestling with your thoughts, memories. Think we’re even”
“The fuck we are! I didn’t try to murder you, while you were almost dead in your bed!” she accused, not feeling scared anymore. Just angry.
Silverhand pretended he didn’t hear her as he took off his glasses saying “I’ve taken a step back, looked at things... think we might be able to help each other. We could start with Rogue. Her and I go back to the stone age”
V snorted “I don’t know if you realised it yet. But you’re dead Silverhand. No one close to my age even knows that you ever existed. Your friends are either dead or so old that their memory is shit”
Silverhand looked ready to murder her but she didn’t stop.
“And what? You fucking know Rogue. What do you expect me to say to her? That I have a parasite inside my brain that would love to meet her? I’ll be out of the Afterlife before I can say “SAMURAI””
“Rogue’s heard dumber shit than that. Way back when you weren’t even an itch in your daddy’s ballsack” he said, the alien feeling of annoyance becoming clearer inside her. He leaned back and put his hands behind his head, his other leg joining the first one on the table “Rogue will dance to any tune I play her. Just get us to the Afterlife”
V stood up and leaned down on the table, their faces inches from each other “You think you’re so smart Silverhand. So fucking clever. But let me give you an advice, old man” she watched him glare back at her, as she continued “I admired you as a kid. You know that, from my memories. But should also know from them, that I don’t bow down to anyone. Especially to dicks like you. So now. Be a good little ghost and fade away”
With that she stood up and left. Silverhand didn’t appear again that day, which she counted as a win.

Satisfied?
We examine what Letterboxd reviews of Hamilton reveal about the musical’s cultural currency in 2020.
In this absolutely insane year, when our love of movies feels helpless in the face of pandemic-induced economic collapse, some extremely good decisions are being made on behalf of audiences. Studio Ghibli on streaming platforms. Virtual screenings to support art house cinemas. Free streaming of many important films about Black experience. And: Disney+ releasing the filmed version of Hamilton: An American Musical—recorded at the Richard Rodgers Theater in 2016 with most of its original Broadway cast—a year ahead of schedule, on Independence Day weekend.
“Superlative pop art,” writes Wesley of the filmed musical. “Hamilton wears its influences and themes on its sleeve, and it’s all the better for it. Lin-Manuel Miranda and his team employ an unlikely cocktail of not only hip-hop and showtunes, but also jazz (‘What’d I Miss?’), British-Invasion pop-rock (‘You’ll Be Back’), folk music (‘Dear Theodosia’) and Shakespeare (‘Take a Break’) in service of developing an impressively vast array of themes. This is a testament to the power of writing, an immigrant narrative, a cautionary tale about ambition, a tragic family drama, and a reevaluation of who decides the narrative of history.”
2016 may only be a half-decade ago, but it feels like an eon in American political years. With theaters dark and America’s long record of racism under urgent scrutiny, the complex smash-hit lands back in the spotlight at an interesting time. Is Hamilton “the most offensive cultural artefact of the last decade”, as Lee writes? Or “timeless and wholly of the moment”, as Tom suggests? The answer, according to a deep read of your Letterboxd reviews, is “all of the above”.
Tumblr media
First things first: why now?
Sophie has a theory:
“Disney executive: Hey we’re losing a lot of money because our parks are closed. How do we start making money again?
Other Disney executive: It might be nice, it might be nice… to get Hamilton on our side.”
Sure, business. Still, it’s historically unprecedented that a Broadway show of this caliber (a record-setting sixteen Tony nominations, eleven wins, plus a Grammy and a Pulitzer) would be filmed and released to the public while it’s still, in a Covid-free universe, capable of filling theaters every night. Will people stay away when Broadway reopens because they’re all Disney+’d out?
No chance, reckons Erika. “I’d still kill to see Hamilton live with any cast… I get why producers are afraid that these videos might hurt ticket sales, but I’m fucking ready to buy a ticket and fly to NY one day just to see as many shows as I can after watching this.”
Not every musical fan has the resources to travel, often waiting years for a touring version to come near their hometown. And even if you do live in a town with Hamilton, the ticket price is beyond many; a daily lottery the only way some of us get to go. So Holly-Beth speaks for many when she writes: “I entered the Hamilton lottery every day for almost two years but I never got to be in the room where it happens… however, this 4K recording of the original cast will do very nicely for now! Finally getting to see the context and performances after obsessing over the music for years was so, so satisfying.”
“Finally” is a common theme. Sydnie writes, “I love this musical with every fiber of my body and it was an extraordinary experience finally getting to watch it in Australia”. Flogic: “To finally be able to put the intended visuals to a soundtrack that I’ve had on repeat for such a long time: goosebumps for 160 minutes.” Newt Potter: “Now I fully understand people’s love for this masterpiece of a musical!”
Tumblr media
I’ve got a small query for you.
Where’s the motherfucking swearing? Unsurprisingly, Disney+ comes with some limitations. For Hamilton, it’s the loss of a perfectly placed F-word.
“I know Disney is ‘too pure’ to let a couple of ‘fucks’ slip by,” writes Fernando, “but come on, it’s kind of distracting having the sound go out completely when they sing the very satisfying ‘Southern Motherfucking Democratic Republicans!’ line.”
Will agrees: “Disney cutting ‘motherfucking’ from ‘Washington on Your Side’ felt like sacrilege akin to Mickey Mouse taking an eyebrow pencil to the Mona Lisa.”
Nevertheless, sings Allison:
“Even tho Disney stripped the story of its f***s, Don’t think for a moment that it sucks.”
(Yes, she has a vegan alert for Hamilton.)
Tumblr media
Does it throw away its shot?
The crew filmed two regular shows in front of live audiences, with additional audience-less sessions for a dolly, crane and Steadicam to capture specific numbers. The vast majority of you are satisfied. “It’s the most engaging and expertly crafted life filming I’ve seen since Stop Making Sense,” writes ArtPig. “The film does an incredible job of placing you right in the action. It feels like the best seat you could get in the theater. You can see the sweat and spit.”
“Translates perfectly onto the small screen,” agrees Ollie. “There’s a level of intimacy that feels hard to replicate in any other filmed production. We see those close ups, the passion and gusto behind every actor’s performance.”
“Shockingly cinematic for something filmed on such a small stage,” is Technerd’s succinct summary, while Paul praises director Thomas Kail: “He knows when to back away along with moving nearer when appropriate, and the choices always serve to govern the power and stamina of the performances.”
Though cast members’ voices were recorded on individual audio tracks, Noah had a few quibbles with the sound quality. “Some of the audio capture is off in the recording, sometimes voices being too soft or too loud. It’s not immersion breaking, but it is noticeable enough to irk me a little in pivotal moments. Some of the shot composition doesn’t fully work either. Of course nothing is going to be as good as seeing it in person.”
Robert, recalling another recent cinematic escapade of musical theater, lets his poetry do the talking:
“This will do for now until the true movie’s made, Though if Hooper directs, there’ll be an angry tirade.”
Tumblr media
I think your pants look hot.
Hamilton fans have their cast favorites, but something about being able to see Jonathan Groff’s spittle and Leslie Odom Jr’s scowls in 4K has you losing it all over again. Several specific shout-outs we enjoyed:
“Daveed Diggs the Legend! Go watch Blindspotting (2018), it’s one of the best movies ever!” —Kyle
“It’s hard to believe anyone will ever top Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr. I already loved him from the original cast recording, but seeing his full performance in all its glory was just godly.” —Erika
“Thankful that it was made possible for me to view with such clarity the phenomenon that is Renée Elise Goldsberry and spectacular Phillipa Soo.” —Thea
“Daveed Diggs was electrifying and Jonathan Groff was absolutely hilarious. If they interacted together the stage would’ve combusted from the sheer will of their talent.” —Nick
Tumblr media
This is not a game.
On one hand, the release of Hamilton is sweet relief for music theater nerds riding out the pandemic. A generation of kids knows every word by heart, rapping (this version of) American history like it’s no thing. On the other, the Obama-era musical already feels behind-the-times, even for many Hamilton lovers, and the filmed version has brought that into sharp focus.
“I listened to the OG cast album about 50 times when it came out, the production is about as good as I’d always hoped,” writes Josh. “Since then however there’s been a very important and broader reckoning with the failures of neoliberalism and the Obama years ([from] which this has to be the most emblematic piece of art) and for me personally a drifting further to the left that has resulted in a very different relationship with the material. So my feelings today are a bit more complicated.”
“Hamilton is extremely non-committal about its politics,” writes Sting. “It doesn’t examine much of what Hamilton dictated besides ‘he wants complete financial control of the country’ (which would sound like a fucking supervillain in any other context, including reality).”
That lack of political commitment, reckons Morgan, is what helped Hamilton as a musical become so popular: “It’s fun. It’s catchy. It interweaves trendy and socially relevant artistic tools to infer a subversive subtext, while simultaneously sanitizing and, at times, flat out fabricating the historical narrative and downplaying the brutality of the true origin story, for the sake of appeasing those in power. Classic Bill Shakespeare stuff.”
Tumblr media
History has its eyes on you.
Much criticism lies with the fundamental storytelling decision to make a modern ruckus about America’s Founding Fathers, the men (including Alexander Hamilton) who in the late eighteenth century united the thirteen colonies and co-wrote the Constitution. Undisputed titans of history, they also have blood on their hands, and HoneyRose writes that the musical “glorifies these men, and paints them as self-sacrificing heroes, and honestly normalizes and validates slavery, as well as the behavior of slave owners.”
Stevie, who saw the Broadway production as well as the filmed version, confesses: “I’ve tried (I’ve really tried) to understand what makes people lose their minds over this but I’m still completely baffled by the hype… These were horrible men and a romanticism of them through song and dance just seems entirely misguided.”
Sean is not convinced that Hamilton is a hagiography. “I can’t imagine anyone watching all of this and thinking it paints a portrait of the Founding Fathers as anything other than childish, greedy, venal and self-aggrandizing.” Wesley agrees: “I don’t think Hamilton is trying to be a history lesson, so much as a lesson about how we think about history. It’s a compelling human story told in a revolutionary way.”
That “revolutionary way” is the musical’s central conceit: that of a cast-of-color playing the white founding fathers as they bumble towards independence. Journalist Jamelle Bouie, who regards the musical as “fun, exciting, innovative and, at points, genuinely moving,” wrestles with the “celebratory narrative in which the Framers are men to admire without reservation. Through its casting, it invites audiences of color to take ownership of that narrative, as if they should want to take ownership of a narrative that white-washes the history of the revolution under the guise of inclusion.”
It’s complicated for Matt, too: “It’s widely agreed upon that the show encapsulates the Obama era better than anything, how it coddles white liberals with a post-racial vision of history in a superficial sense, overlooking the insidious and oppressive systems that they benefit from (hearing the audience clap to ‘Immigrants, we get the job done’ unsettled me). Of course hopefully its legacy will be that it opened up more Broadway roles for POC. But I really think that the show doesn’t make Broadway more appealing and accessible to POC, it just makes hip hop more accessible to white people, a launching pad of course to listening to Watsky or something.
“No hate though to anyone that’s completely in love with this, it’s definitely worth seeing despite any hang ups.”
Tumblr media
I wanna build something that’s gonna outlive me.
The story doesn’t end, just because the music does. Kai_Kenn has a suggestion: “I have been a part of discussions that dissect the culture that created Hamilton, as well as the culture that Hamilton created, and whether or not Hamilton appropriately addresses the modern issues [that] the cult following proposes it does.
“This is an ongoing discussion that I am trying to be an active listener in and, if you consider yourself to be a conscientious consumer of art, you should too.”
Noah is on board with that: “Reflecting on the past and focusing on the future are not two mutually exclusive actions. Both are a must, regardless of who you are or what you do. A five-star experience in a four-and-a-half-star film. I think that’s just fine.”

(/chants WOLO) but again if i were to list all the groups/soloists i love and follow and listen to, this would go on forever. here’s a small preview tho: eric nam, ailee, day6, onf, oneus, a.c.e, dreamcatcher, sf9, the rose, unb (missing them ;;), kard, golden child, pentagon, mamamoo, got7, teen top, infinite, b.a.p (also missing them ;;), vixx, the legend (ugh missing them too), royal pirates (MISSING THEM MOST), and honestly just about any 2nd/early 3rd gen kpop group. i also stanned a lot of nugu groups before like 2015. basically you name them, i most likely stanned them at one point or another LOL
— biggest wreckers:
literally everybody in svt and mx LMAO but also leedo from oneus makes me feel many things 😳 and junhee from a.c.e 😳 and brian from day6 😳 also wyatt from onf is my favorite emotional support himbo LOL (again this is what i got off the top of my head... i’m sure theres more)
— favourite songs:
OH BOY. I WILL TRY MY BEST TO LIMIT IT TO MY ABSOLUTE FAVES
ukiss: someday, neverland, 0330, standing still, tick tack, heartless, stop girl, one of you, a shared dream, one call away /trying to refrain from listing half their discography/ also including junyoung's solo songs: phenomenal world, curious about u, be your man
seventeen: pinwheel, kidult, good to me, snap shoot, call call call, run to you, clap, highlight, pretty u
monsta x: lost in the dream, destroyer, mohae, stuck, livin’ it up, dramarama, stand up, by my side, misbehave, beside u, she’s the one (also since i still consider wonho part of mx even tho he’s solo now) open mind!
day6: love me or leave me, colors, sweet chaos, days gone by, shoot me, letting go, you were pretty, congratulations, man in a movie, i smile, dance dance (and basically the rest of their discography LOL)
unb: black heart, feeling, dancing with the devil, only one
the rose: sorry, black rose (/SOBBING), she’s in the rain, red (i also love sammy’s/woosung’s face... like the song but i do like his face as well LOL)
— favourite albums:
again so many.... so i’ll just do my absolute faves again
ukiss: neverland album (SO GOOD UGH), also their stalker album was pretty good, i also really liked their one shot one kill album BUT ITS NOT ON SPOTIFY AND IT GOT TAKEN DOWN FROM YOUTUBE SO I’M SAD. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO ACCESS JAPANESE MUSIC ARGHHHH
monsta x: take 1. are you there is the queen. all about luv is good too. and even tho it hurts me, i also really like follow: find you
seventeen: an ode THE ULTIMATE QUEEN. but i also really like al1 and teen, age too
day6: EVERY SONG OF THEIRS IS A NO SKIP FOR ME SO EVERY ALBUM IS A FAVE. but if i had to choose: the book of us: entropy, the book of us: the demon and sunrise.
also an honorable mention to sf9 bc i listened to their entire discography like two months ago and i realized they had some absolutely solid music as well. their 9loryus album has been on REPEAT
— kpop doppelganger:
lmao definitely none but i relate a lot to hyungwon LMAO also i have the same birthday as ft island’s seunghyun but hes like a lot weirder than me LMAO
if you made it this far, thank you so much for reading!! it really took a lot of self-restraint to not write EVERYTHING i like but this still ended up so long lmao.... anyways tagging @xfirebenderx, @bookwan and @nebulouswaters but don’t feel pressured to do this!

hey dude for the music challenge u should do ALL OF EM
heh heh heh... such was my plan ALL ALONG. i will now use this ask as the place to do it (here’s the post btw)
1. A song that reminds you of your childhood: anything from Fiddler On The Roof (the original Broadway cast recording)... my dad loves Fiddler On The Roof and he used to play it all the time
2. A song to sleep to: heh, anything at 2am. but really New York And Back by Leanne & Naara
3. A song that your best friend loves: oh god, really? cmon i cant just know that...! ummmm mazie and i had a really in depth running conversation about her favorite music about two years ago but im forgetting it all. im PRETTY SURE Venus Ambassador by Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears was the inspiration for her OC Stuart who we both love and occasionally develop
4. A song that hypes you the fuck up: HEH ANYTHING....! oh my god this is a haaaaard one because of how many options i have!!! but also: Awaken by Riot Games feat. Valerie Broussard, because WHEN THE DEVIL IS KNOCKINGGGGGGGGG... SO ALL YOU RESTLESS
5. A song you like to daydream to: i can only say “heh anything” so many times!! literally i daydream to basically every single song; its foundational to how i consume music. i’ll bring out the real heavy hitter now and say Follow You Down by Zedd feat. Bright Lights. ive got some REAL good daydreams for that one
6. A song that’s on at least 3 of your playlists: *breath in* no just kidding, i do my best to make sure my playlists arent too similar. the day you stop me from putting I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers on every character playlist is the day i die tho
7. A song that you love from a genre you don’t usually like: this should be easy; lemme just flip through my catalog of “songs i bought independent of their albums because i was building an 8tracks playlist in iTunes”... actually no, Planetary (GO!) by My Chemical Romance! i dont usually like whatever subgenre of rock MCR is all that much but this one GOES (fittingly shjfdis)
8. A song that you liked when you where 10 that still slaps: Der Kommissar by Falco. no fucking hesitation. i can thank my fluent-in-german mom for this one
9. A song that makes you want to go on an adventure: Zero by Imagine Dragons! ive daydreamed some poppin’ space adventures to that one
10. A song you’d want to dance with your partner to ( or future partner ): so, so much... NOT Jenny by Studio Killers because i just wanna make out to that one; maybe I Go Crazy by Paul Davis
11. A song to stomp around and pout to: difficult, because when i pout, i pout like grimbark jade, in that i go “actually im better than everyone and you can all smd.” then again, having made that clear, Roman Holiday by Nikki Minaj (shoutout: @floralmarsupial for killing me with that lyricstuck)
12. A song to listen to whilst you lie in a meadow: Folding Chair by Regina Spektor. TOO EASY
13. A song that reflects your views on love: uhhhhh. huh. polyam moments? no songs about polyamory moments? being polyamorous fundamentally affects my views on love in a way im not sure ive ever heard a song capture moments? Hot Air Balloon by Owl City because i’ll be out of my mind, and you’ll be out of ideas pretty soon, so let’s spend the afternoon in a cold hot air balloon
14. A song to sing to the sun: i feel like its probably not the intended spirit of this question, but Coming Over (feat. James Hersey) by Dillon Francis & Kygo. im usually more of a nighttime girl but honestly? call me xoxo
15. A song you like that sounds like its on the soundtrack to an indie coming of age film: ohhhh my gooooddddd literally any fucking Bastille song. any of them. thats like their whole angle and i LIVE for it. im picking Snakes because snakes are biting at my heels, the worries that refuse to let us go; ive been kicking them away and hoping not to let them take control
16. A song that you like that romanticises being a teenager: i would love to say Teen Idle by MARINA for the irony but i cant bring myself to. (ill still link it tho.) real answer is Centuries by Fall Out Boy, because whether or not it actually romanticises being a teen i just feel it yknow
17. A song that makes you want to grab your friends jump up and down dancing and screaming the lyrics: why did they write a question to which the only answer is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen? i dont get it. just kidding another acceptable answer is Toxic by Britney Spears (my white is showing im sure)
18. A song that you like that the lyrics are just so beautiful they’re practically poetry: well actually i have such good taste that every song i listen to is poetry. (trying to remember the lyrics i cried to out of nowhere yesterday. oh right it was The Draw by Bastille but most of it doesnt fit the question as much) ANY Hozier song. im linking his fucking artist page because im NOT KIDDING. ANY HOZIER SONG. i toyed with picking a specific song as an “also, it’s this one haha” but no, im dead serious. i cant pick just one
19. A song that you can imagine listening to in an abandoned church ( if it isn’t hozier im judging you, but whatever ): ironic! to pick a specific Hozier song this time (because op is right, he’s the only choice), Talk
20. A song from the soundtrack of a film that you like so much after the film finished you immediately looked for it: hm, i feel like i have done this before, but i cant recall when... well i didnt go “oh fuck bop [blacks out]” but Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. remember Thor: Ragnarok? that was a good movie
21. A song for when the sun has gone down and you are feeling absolutely buck-wild with exhilaration!: Lost In Japan (Remix) by Shawn Mendes & Zedd, because no song hits my city-hotel aesthetic quite like this one does
22. A song that makes you feel like you’re strolling through Ancient Greece living your best life: ancient Greece...! that throws a fun twist in it; Don’t Leave Me (Ne me quitte pas) by Regina Spektor
23. A song that when you listen to it you’re transported to a liminal space, time is pointless and you must sit and wallow in the void that remains: Shots (Broiler Remix) by Imagine Dragons feat. Broiler. i glanced at this question early on and have been sitting on it the whole time. just LISTEN to it
23. A song to listen to on a long drive when you have the really strong urge to keep driving until you find somewhere to start a new life (preferably a europian city whose language you don’t speak): Evelyn by Kim Tillman & Silent Films. it just called to me here
im a little sad that i couldnt put every song ive ever listened to in here so heres some more good ones that i didnt choose: Citrine by Hayley Kiyoko (this is actually a whole EP), Lone Digger by Caravan Palace, Safe And Sound by Capital Cities, Absentee by Jack Campbell, River Flows In You by Yiruma, Instant Crush by Daft Punk, Link by Jim Yosef, Poke Bowl by Radiant Children, Optimistic by cehryl, Quiet by Lights, Superposition by Young the Giant, Far Too Young To Die by Panic! at the Disco, The Good, the Bad and the Dirty also by P!atD, Whatever It Takes by Hollywood Undead, LUNARIA (instrumental) by Chouchou. i know thats easily enough to make your eyes glaze over but mutuals especially it would mean a lot to me if you listened to at least a few of the songs i linked in this post because music means a lot to me and sharing it with other people is one of my favorite things :]

So I have a magnus archives playlist
I’ve been making a long chronological Magnus Archives playlist for my own amusement (So This Is Basically The Magnus Archives) , but since season 5 is close and my college kicked everyone out i decided to Do Something Unnecessary.
I have taken painstaking effort to not only properly organize this stupid thing with specific tma episodes, but also have documented the episodes as well as why I included the songs (under the cut). This is my Magnum Opus. I have officially pulled an all nighter to work on this. AND i’m making another playlist with songs that I wanted to keep tabs on in case I end up needing to use them as s5 comes out (here) Spoiler warning obviously
Please send me some songs if you follow the playlist and think they should be on there!
TLDR - Grace for sale = season 1 finale; Bad Bad Things = season 2 finale; Greatest Show Unearthed = season 3 finale; Just Did a Bad Thing = Season 4 finale.
I bold the songs I added most recently. Honestly I recommend listening to the playlist first because its way fun and like referencing this if you really care about it. Please give me song suggestions or alterations!
Song Name - MAG00 - PoV/Sung at/etc; Event. NA = Not Applicable
The Office Theme - NA
memes
Turn The Lights Off - MAG 01
The whole “Dont go in there” theme is applicable to the danger of the Angler fish, which also parallels that first statement acting as a lure for Jon
Don’t Worry We’ll Be Watching You - NA
I didn’t want to comb through to find an episode where Jon says hes being watched. I might move this somewhere else because it’s really slow for the begining of the playlist. Maybe  where he went to America
Somebody’s Watching Me - NA
Same as above + memes
Bloody Nose - MAG 17 - PoV Jared Hopworth
the boneturner’s tale statement
Grace For Sale - MAG 39 - PoV Jane Prentiss; S1 Finale
I didn’t know this was part of a whole carnival themed album when I added it, but I felt that the themes of shedding your skin and worms were relevant enough. Still looking for a good song for the s1 finale tho :/
I Don’t Trust You Anymore - MAG 40/41 - PoV Jon
Immediately after the Worm Attack, Jon realizes he can’t trust anyone in the archives.
Losing My Mind - NA - PoV Jon
Jon makes a lot of mentions of his paranoia thruout this season and I feel it just fits best here
Little Pistols - NA - PoV Jon
Same as above, but its like Really Sad because this one paints the paranoia as much more self-destructive.
Afraid - MAG 77 - Multi PoV/Sasha
Jon just realized the NotSasha replaced Sashsa. Could be from Sasha or NotSasha or even Jon realizing the implications a shapeshifting creature, just fkcn love the chorus for the whole NotSasha fiasco
Mr Capgras - MAG 78/79 - Sung by the NotThem
Jon’s a huge idiot and the NotThem is Out For Blood
Bad Bad Things - MAG 80 - PoV Elias; S2 Finale
Bitch boy Murkd Leitner and Gertrude and he’s an asshole for it
Its not overly literal but i think some characters in the song could be interpreted as Leitner and Gertrude, with the POV Elias speaking to Jon.
I’m Not Ok - MAG 81 - PoV Jon
Georgie pls....help this nasty man
The Cult of Dionysus - NA
Honestly this isn’t very specific at all there’s just a lot more cult activity in this season and this song lines up well with the next few
Rejoice - MAG 89 - PoV Jude Perry/Lightless Flame
this ep is jude’s statement and this is a Good cult song
Bust Your Kneecaps - MAG 67 - PoV Agnes Montague
Keeps with the theme better here than in order with s2. Statement of cafe boy who tried to romance Agnes that one time
Are Things Still Burning - MAG 67/89 - PoV Agnes Montague
You’ll get it.
I’m Gonna Win - MAG 101 - PoV Gertrude or Michael
Really connect this song with gertrude’s Bad Bitch energy and MAG 101 is the episode where we really get a scope of how morally gray she is
But the overall cocky tone of the song is real good for Michael
The Distortionist - MAG 101 - PoV Michael
this ep is Michael’s statement.
Its kind of hard to tell because of the vocaloid, but the song's character seems to have been pushed and  manipulated into something like Michael. I can see the song shifting from Michael singing about how Gertrude created him into accepting it and them singing at Jon
Has wayyyyy too much Spiral imagery to not include
Seven Devils - MAG111 - PoV Gerard Kaey
this is the ep where Gerard properly explains the fears to Jon
Dirty Night Clowns - MAG 104 - PoV Tim Stoker?
sort of Tim about his brother
Blood End Credits - no MAG/MAG 119 - PoV Tim Stoker
god i miss tim. I don’t think it translates exactly to 119, but it’s more of the climax of his character arch. He’s literally given everything to the Institute and to Elias and now he has to fucking die? FUck.
Greatest Show Unearthed - MAG 139 - PoV Nikola/The Circus
This one is literal lol. u can figure it out
My Time - MAG 120/121 - Sung about Jon
*Mable pines picture* “He’s resting”
Who Are You, Really? - MAG 121 - Sung at/for Jon
Jon has to decide whether to let himself die human or risk becoming a monster to protect the people he loves*
*Martin
Cold Cold Man - MAG 124 - PoV Jon
This is the first time Jon and Martin have seen each other since he woke, and I think really the first time Jon has sought out Martin because he just...wanted to see him
Ruler of Everything - MAG 124 - PoV Martin
This is Martin’s side of the exchange he and Jon had. This is where he started pushing Jon away (Shot as wily one/only friend), and Peter is making him into the “ruler of everything” aka running the Institute, and just doing his best to go one day at a time until whatever Peter has planned gets done
Catabolic Seed - MAG 125 - PoV Melanie
Honestly, I just really wanted this song for melanie. The Magnus Institute is taking too much out of her, making her into a hollow, and she’s just trying to keep herself together with emotional duct tape
Body - MAG 131 Build Up - PoV Jon
I see this as the culmination of Jon’s survival guilt and desperation to make himself worthy of humanity again. Since he has a healing factor now, he has no sense of self-preservation and is willing to sacrifice his entire body to make himself worthy of humaity.
Skeleton Appreciation Day - MAG 131 - PoV Jared Hopworth
THE MEATBONE MANNNN
What Am I Becoming? - MAG 146/147 - PoV Jon
It hurts
in 146 Jon admited to Basira, Daisy, and Melanie confronted him about his live feedings. 147 Jon realises that he doesn’t want to stop feeding
Human - Mag 147/152 - For Jon
Couldn’t decide where this goes chronologically, but these in these two eps jon is seriously debating his humanity and disturbed that he even needs to do that
Isle Unto Thyself - NA
this fits....somewhere in this season. I believe i see this as Jon singing about Martin’s isolation, but really its just applicable to their whole situation
Train Remastered - MAG 154 - PoV Jon
a fukn EASY one FINALLY.
THis bitch is Jon asking Martin to blind himself with Jon so they can run away together. Their romantic arcs got me feeling all sorts of ways
No Eyed Girl - MAG 157
this is so literal lmao its just Melanie and Georgie
Not Human - MAG 158 - About Daisy
She’s spent so long serving the Hunt and trying to undo its power over her, and she really just Did That(tm) for her friends. We stan a werewolf queen
Monster - Many MAGs
honestly can fit Martin, Jon, Melanie and Daisy at different points, but i think its a good end to Daisy’s character arc currently
Ship In A Bottle - MAG 159 - About Martin and Peter
I like to see this as the climax of Martin’s Loneliness and his relationship with Peter as well as like the culmination of Peter’s deal with Elias and Martin’s Deal with Peter
It’s Alright - MAG 159 - To Jon and Martin
Jon Rescued Martin from the Lonely and is finally able to have a purpose and they are allowed to Be Okay
Honeybee - MAG 160 - PoV Jon
WE STAN TRUE LOVE AND SATISFYING ROMANCE IN THIS HOUSEEEEEEE
Great Vacation - Thematic transition
If Honeybee was the first 2 minutes of 160, then we know what’s coming next. The Scottish Cottage isn’t a vacation
Just Did A Bad Thing - MAG 160
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Its the end of the world as we know it - Season 5 trailer
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Hey girrrl! First of all, I wanted to thank u for posting your fics. I've been struggling with anxiety and reading dianetti fics helps a lot! Second, can you write a fic settled after episode 18 of the second season, where Gina and Rosa go together to the Beyonce concert they won tickets for, and there they start to realize their feelings towards each other?
hi!! thank you for this prompt!! read on ao3 or below
Gina snatches the Beyonce tickets and waves them ecstatically in front of Rosa’s face, exclaiming something about how they’re her god-given right to own. Rosa simply smiles; she’s happy that the tickets landed with Gina. Gina’s the most enthusiastic person about Beyonce that Rosa has ever known.
To be fair, Rosa doesn’t know many Beyonce enthusiasts. She does her best to not get out much. But judging from Gina’s twitter feed (yes, she’s seen Gina’s twitter), Gina’s the most enthusiastic about Beyonce.
So yeah, Rosa Diaz has some thoughts on Gina Linetti and some on Beyonce. Who’s to judge her?? Everyone has quite a few thoughts on Gina Linetti (and Beyonce). Yeah, so Rosa’ll (never) admit that she’s listened to a few Beyonce songs upon Gina’s recommendation, even though Rosa never takes recommendations from anyone. But that doesn’t say anything.
Oh, it totally does say something. It screams that “Rosa Diaz is super gay for Gina Linetti!!”
It’s not something Rosa’s proud of. She could have decided to subtly crush on anyone, but her damn heart chose Gina freaking Linetti. The human form of the 100 emoji. The most dangerous person (next to Rosa) in the precinct. And Rosa knows that if Gina likes her back, they’d have the ability to take over the world (all while holding hands).
“Hey. Hey. Hey,” Gina says, waving her drink in front of Rosa’s face. “Snap out of it, Diaz. What’re you thinking about that’s more important than me, anyways?”
Rosa blinks a few times before taking a gulp of beer. “Hmm?” she mumbles, redirecting her focus to Gina’s face.
“Hey, sorry that you didn’t win the tickets. You know, because your boyfriend likes Beyonce so much.” Gina pulls a face of (fake) sympathy towards Rosa, who shrugs.
“No problem. They’re your god-given right,” she says. Truth be told, Rosa’s boyfriend doesn’t exist. When Captain Holt had pitched the riddle, Rosa had thought of Gina immediately upon seeing the Beyonce tickets. And that was why she had wanted to win the tickets so badly. She had wanted to take Gina to the concert, not some fake made-up boyfriend.
(Rosa had a whole story planned out. She would have invited Gina to the concert and made up some lie about her boyfriend cancelling. Then they’d go to the concert, and at the end, Rosa would tell Gina that she had dumped her boyfriend over text.)
“Rosa! Rosa!” Gina snaps her fingers in front of Rosa’s face, interrupting the detective’s thoughts once again. “Seriously, girl! Is there something really more important on your mind than me?”
Rosa rolls her eyes; she’s not going to admit that she was just thinking about Gina. “I mean, if the tickets mean so much to you… nah, I don’t like your boyfriend,” Gina says, pursing her lips.
Rosa squints at Gina. “Really? You haven’t even met him!” she says. The boyfriend may be fake, but Rosa’s still offended. She whisks a shot of tequila away from Jake and downs it.
“Well, I do know him well enough to know that he’s fake,” Gina mumbles.
Rosa’s eyes widen. “What? How do you know that, huh?” she demands, satisfied to see Gina grow a little bit smaller under intimidation.
“I just know, Rosie,” Gina says, squaring her shoulders with confidence. “I’m a better detective than all of you.”
“You don’t know that,” Rosa accuses.
Gina ignores this and just asks, “Why’d you want the Beyonce tickets, anyways?”
“If you’re such a good detective, then why don’t you just figure it out?” Rosa snaps.
Gina seems to ponder over this statement for a few moments. She takes a sip of her drink before looking Rosa in the eye. “Huh, Rosie, I don’t know,” she smiles. “But why don’t you take the extra ticket and come to the Beyonce concert with me on Sunday, hmmm?”
Rosa clenches her fists, bewildered. She blinks a few times. “Um, yeah, sure,” she stammers.
Gina grins widely. “That’s what I thought,” she says, snatching Rosa’s beer and taking a gulp. “See, I’m a really great detective. Don’t ask, okay, boo? I’ll pick you up on Sunday.”
“But―”
“I know where you live,” Gina says.
“Stalker,” Rosa mumbles under her breath. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Amy dancing. Rosa quickly swipes the drink that Hank the bartender passes towards Amy, hoping to save everyone from the embarrassment of four drink Amy.
“Not a stalker,” Gina corrects. “Just very informed about everyone’s lives.”
Rosa rolls her eyes and grabs her beer back from Gina. She puts the bottle to her lips and takes a long draught, finishing the bottle off. “Gotta go,” Rosa gasps as she slides off of the bar stool and heads towards the exit to grab a cab.
“M'kay!” Gina calls after her. “Wear something nice!”
Rosa tries to avoid thinking about the heat rising to her cheeks as she quickly gets into a taxi, intending to crash as soon as she gets home.
The next day goes by uneventfully. Rosa stays boarded up in her apartment, ignoring seventeen memes from Jake, fifty-six texts from Charles, one email from Amy, and (unfortunately) nothing from Gina. She idly flips through the channels on the TV, sighing every so often and checking her phone to see if Gina’s texted her anything.
Nothing.
Rosa pulls her laptop closer and opens Spotify. She quickly logs in with Gina’s password (Gina has premium, okay? No ads. Don’t judge Rosa for having access to Gina’s Spotify) and within a few minutes, Beyonce’s newest album is blaring through Rosa’s apartment.
She doesn’t know when exactly she falls asleep, but she wakes up a few hours later with her phone blown up with notifications. Ten new memes from Jake, twenty-seven new texts from Jake, one new email from Amy, and… three new texts from Gina Linetti. Rosa ignores everything else on her phone and quickly opens the texts from Gina.
Gina: bitch stop using my spotify
Gina: i know ur listening to beyonce and while its a very sweet gesture i’d like to use my spotify now
Gina: u can listen to beyonce at the concert with me tomorrow
Rosa rolls her eyes and presses the home button on her phone, leaving Gina’s texts on read. She logs out of Gina’s Spotify and pushes her laptop away.
The day seems to pass incredibly slowly. Rosa can’t wait for the sky to go black so that she can collapse in bed after a day of absolutely no productivity.
Sleep comes to her sooner than she had expected. Shortly after sunset, Rosa falls asleep on her couch, resulting in several uncomfortable positions and stiff muscles. Oh, and also waking up at the literal crack of dawn the next day.
She still has many hours before Gina’s supposed to come and pick her up. Rosa decides to go for a ride on her motorcycle, hoping that it’ll take her mind off of Gina Linetti.
For a few hours, it seems to work. It’s just Rosa, the road, her bike, and the wind.
And then she decides to grab a coffee. She runs into Charles, and the first thing that he says is, “heard you’re going to the Beyonce concert with Gina!”
Rosa squints her eyes at him. “How’d you know that?” she asks.
Charles puffs his chest out. “I’m a detective, of course,” he says, taking a sip of coffee. Rosa stares him down for a few seconds before he deflates. “Okay, okay! Gina told Jake and Jake told five-drink Amy and five-drink Amy told me! And I may have accidentally slipped it into the Boyle weekly newsletter! Sorry, Rosa, but you and Gina would just be so cute together!”
Rosa sighs heavily. She grabs her coffee from the counter and drops a few crumpled bills in its place, swiftly turning around and heading out of the coffee place.
As soon as Rosa gets home, she decides to text Gina.
Rosa: u told jake we were going to the concert?? and he told amy who told charles who told everyone??
Gina: chill rosie
Gina: not my fault charles is a blabbermouth
Rosa: but u told jake?? who told amy who told charles??
Gina: i can tell jake bc he’s my best friend
Gina: can’t blame him for having a big crush on that amy girl he’ll tell her anything
Gina: and when that girl gets drunk she can literally do anything
Gina: can’t wait for the concert tho
Rosa: it’s not a date!! why is everyone saying it’s a date???
Gina: literally did not say that in any of my texts but okay
Rosa: no!! charles thinks it’s a date!!! so now everyone does!!!!!!!
Gina: ur using way too many exclamation points n it’s scaring me
Gina: if u don’t want it to be a date then it doesn’t have to be
Rosa: oh my god all i wanna do is see beyonce
Gina: yeah with me i know
Rosa: no!!!! who said that!!!! stop listening to charles!!!!
Gina: okay okay rosa chill okay?? ur really scaring me with the exclamation points
Gina: don’t murder anyone okay
Rosa: fine whatever but i’m THIS close
Gina: so ur still coming to the concert with me tho right
Rosa: fine
Rosa’s phone dings with a new notification. With irritation, Rosa reads it to see a new email from Amy. And then without knowing why, Rosa taps on it and opens Amy’s email.
And then she’s hurling a knife at the wall because Amy’s forwarded her an article that Charles has written on Rosa and Gina’s relationship. There is a whole paragraph about “unseen sexual tension” and then another on “what their babies would look like.” The email is signed off with a long apology from Amy.
Evening doesn’t come soon enough. Rosa’s already slightly tipsy by the time Gina comes to pick her up.
“This is my nice leather jacket,” Rosa mumbles as she opens the door, remembering Gina’s comment about wearing something nice.
“Are you drunk?”
“Did you read Charles’s article?”
“I don’t read those. I’m too dignified.”
Rosa lets out a strangling noise from her throat. “Yeah? Well, so am I, but that article is a ton of bullshit! Why is everyone all up in our business?”
“Oh, Rosie.” Gina pats Rosa’s arm a few times. “Drink this.” She thrusts a water bottle into Rosa’s hand. “You gotta sober up, girl! Or else you won’t remember the truly thrilling experience of going to a Beyonce concert with Gina freaking Linetti!”
Rosa chugs down about a fourth of the water bottle before looking hesitantly at Gina. “Why am I doing this?” she mumbles.
“Seeing Beyonce? Because it’s an experience, Rosa. And it’s the best thing ever, okay? You can’t back out now, so let’s go!” And with that, Gina tugs Rosa out of the apartment.
The car ride goes by quickly. Rosa ends up finishing the rest of the water, and by the time they get to the concert, she can feel her senses coming back to her.
Gina drags her through the line at the entrance, flashing the concert tickets at the security guard. “I’m also a celebrity, so I get in anyways,” she preens.
“That’s not true,” Rosa mutters under her breath. She tries not to think about Gina’s fingers digging into her wrist as they walk into the filled concert venue.
Somehow, Gina manages to get them to the front (It has a lot to do with Rosa’s intimidating aura, but Gina will claim that it’s because of her celebrity status).
And then Beyonce Knowles gets on stage and everyone goes completely wild. Maybe it’s the blinding lights or the wind that rushes through the room from the big fans or because of the alcohol still in her system, but Rosa’s feeling the ecstasy in the place as well.
Beyonce’s singing some song that Rosa knows she’s definitely heard but Rosa’s attention isn’t fully on Beyonce. Her gaze is fixed to Gina Linetti, the other popstar in the room. And she’s watching how happy Gina looks when her own lips turn upwards and a smile blossoms to her face.
Gina’s eyes dart to Rosa for a moment before returning to Beyonce. And then she notices that Rosa’s not watching Beyonce, and she turns back to Rosa. “What are you doing!” Gina says loudly. “You should be watching Beyonce!”
“Mhmm,” Rosa mumbles under the music. She halfheartedly looks to the stage. When Rosa’s sure that Gina’s attention is transfixed to Beyonce, Rosa sneaks a look at Gina again. Gina’s mouthing the words to Beyonce’s song now.
And then someone pushes next to Gina and Gina momentarily loses her balance, stumbling right into Rosa’s arms. Rosa’s eyes widen in response as Gina looks up at her, breathless. “Good catch, Rosie,” Gina says and returns her gaze to Beyonce.
But Rosa’s eyes never leave Gina. Not when she stops Gina from attempting to join Beyonce on stage and not when Beyonce dives into the crowd and everything seems to go loud and fluorescent. Not until the very end of the concert, when she loses Gina in the crowd for a minute when Gina scurries after Beyonce to get a selfie.
And then she can’t find Gina, even though people are making way for Rosa (because she’s scary, you know) and she’s calling Gina’s name in desperation.
Rosa finally gives up and somehow heads out of the venue, towards where Gina’s car is parked. She leans on the hood for a minute before her legs get tired and she jumps up to sit on the hood of the car.
“Rosa!”
She looks up to the sound of her name being called and sees Gina trying to run/limp towards the car with a single heel in her hand. Rosa slides off of the hood of the car and rushes over to help Gina to the car.
Instead of getting in the car, Gina sits on top of the hood and pats the empty area next to her. “Sit,” she says, so Rosa joins her. Gina starts unstrapping her other shoe, so Rosa idly stares out to the night.
“How was the concert?” Gina asks a beat later. Both of her shoes dangle from one hand.
“Huh? Yeah, it was good,” Rosa says.
Gina frowns. “You’re a liar,” she decides.
Rosa stares at Gina. “What?” she asks with disbelief in her voice. “It was Beyonce. Of course it was good.”
“It was Beyonce! It was fucking fantastic! Amazing! Unbelievable! Not just good,” Gina says. “And you weren’t even watching half the time. Yeah, Diaz. When you stare at me and think I don’t notice, I do notice. Ugh, wait till we go see Rihanna.”
“I don’t wanna make this a whole thing,” Rosa says hurriedly, preparing to get off of the car. Gina’s arm flies out in front of Rosa’s chest, abruptly stopping her.
“You don’t, but I do.”
Rosa looks at Gina with a bewildered expression on her face. “What?” she asks carefully.
“C'mon, Rosa! We both know that if we joined forces, we could take over the world! While holding hands and locking lips!” Gina says, rolling her eyes at Rosa’s expression.
“What?”
“You are an actual idiot. I thought you were a detective. Yet, here I, Gina Linetti, sit, trying to explain the most basic concept to an allegedly smart detective,” Gina sighs. “You like me. I like you. Wanna make out?”
“What about everyone at the precinct―”
“Blackmail files? Uh, duh! And my naturally beautiful and intimidating aura combined with your terrifying presence is sure to make them all shut up,” Gina reasons. “What do you say, Rosie?”
“I don’t know? Kiss me?” Rosa says.
So Gina does, and it turns out to be a great night.

Kyo - Impressionist Vignettes: OFFICIAL REVIEW
Tumblr media
Written by Kisai The Spooniest Bard
[Foreword]:
To begin, Mike Faris AKA Kyo (FKA Demon Eyes Kyo) is an artist I respect immensely. He is also a dear friend and someone I consider a kindred soul. I take every verse he writes, sings and/or raps as a chance to understand more of his worldview and thought process. That said, I'm extremely honoured (so much so I just spelled honored with a FARKING letter U) to have been chosen as one of the trusted to review this, his debut album. I am Darris Marcell Kisai Parker, and this is Impressionist Vignettes by Kyo.
[Track 1ne] - Yasiin (prod. by kaptain planet): So from the start we get a gritty, dark boom bap jawn produced by the impeccable kaptain planet. It's always lit when planet links up with Kyo because Kyo starts to slip into his particular brand of what he calls "sophisticated ignorance", a glorious combination of swagger, hyperbole, and good old-fashioned dark humor. In this instance, however, Kyo's lyrics are more sober, less grandiose. He chooses to lampshade how basic and one-note some artists tend to be in their portrayals. He even pays homage to one of his fellow CPC member's songs (Views by Savior Monroe). And most of all, Kyo just makes it plain how serious he is in this outing. This one is less about stellar bars and schemes and more about the human experience as interpreted by Mike Faris. I'm here for it. Quotable: "Ain't my fault if the truth hurtin' ya feelin's. You ain't puttin' work with writtens murkin' the rhythm. You just jerkin' the listeners like jamaican chicken."
[Track 2wo] - Highland (prod. by Lé Real): An autobiographical stroll over a jazzy lofi road paved by a Castle In The Sky faithful, the uber-talented Lé Real. Here, Kyo talks about his old stomping ground, a place in Michigan called Highland. He highlights the rough yet sensitive nature of the milieu, the roaming opinions of passive observers looking in from the outside, the desperate grab for tough guy points by those who probably can't get into the Salty Spittoon otherwise, the ones who live in nicer areas, who don't really HAVE TO be in such an area. Kyo warns these folks about greenness of grass, and tells them in no plain terms to get a life of their own. This is the stuff I was looking for. And he delivered. Quotable: "A double-wide was like a luxury home! Havin' both parents there the rarest of luxuries tho and I know; I'm one of the lucky ones when it comes to that, Most of my homies wasn't tho, that's just the facts..."
[Track 3hree] - Flowers From The Old Vic Stage (prod. by Medical Nindo, guitars by Kyo):  Kyo sings, by the way! I feel like typically when artists try to be multi-layered it's an attempt to appeal to a public all too swayed by gimmicky shallow bullshit. But in Kyo's case, he really carries all the musicianship and artistry necessary to sustain the various mantles he's borne over the years. That said, on the singer/songwriter tip, Kyo is something to witness. But if you've followed his work at all, you've probably heard this on display on his previous work, "The Imposter's Muse". His poet's soul is on display here in track three, a somber, romantic ballad produced by the smooth/savage master himself, Medical Ninjutsu aka Medical Nindo. Some of y'all might know him as Diggz Da Prophecy. Kyo accompanies our resident "Hood Nerd Sage" on the guitar, providing weepy, melancholy-yet nostalgic licks that carry the heady tone of his musings. A song from the perspective of a tragic lover of a former star of the stage and screen, a person with whom our hero was enraptured, with whom he was close, a flame that perhaps burned too bright and sputtered into dying embers. "I wonder..." The words pass his lips several times over, each time a different thread carried on their doleful, mournful wind. Quotable: I'm not giving you one. Listen to the song.
[Track 4our] - Summer '09 (prod. by River Sanzu):  So, ironically, Summer '09 is a time of major importance to me because it was a time when I was ambivalent towards life. I was holding down a job I truly loved, but not seeing much of the money I was getting paid due to familial obligations, I was dating one of my current best friends, a relationship I look back on fondly even now. But it seemed like everything in the world conspired to keep us apart and as such I felt like I was failing her. I was writing some of the best bars of my life, but I had no way to record and couldn't afford to hit anyone's studio. I was dependent on music to keep me going and every month I had an issue with my mp3 player. I was finally seeing some measure of freedom, but at the same time I was constantly being appraised by family members as an adult acting like a child. As if they alone held the yardstick by which adulthood is measured and everyone's lived experiences were supposed to be uniform with the same milestones at the same times as if life worked that way. And to top it off, my father's genes were kicking in and I started to lose hair, just when I was getting ready to pimp my afro to the max! (RIP afro dreams). I just felt like I was languishing in some sort of middleground hell where everything was awesome but terrible at the same time. I constantly questioned whether I even wanted to be alive. Looking back, I always tell myself it wasn't that bad. It was just growing pains and every adult has them. But you couldn't tell me shit in the moment. I'd've said "Life is iffy af for me right now." On another side of the country, here is Kyo, driving drunk on his way to kick it with his friends. The same ambilavence towards the idea of continuing life present in his thoughts and actions. Instead leaving it to the "Most High" to determine his fate, he arrives unscathed at the function, has a rowdy old time with his buddies, the sort of things youths get into when together. "Freestyling and clowning", card games, even more drinking, some squabbles-nothing that really matters between friends however, and just being in the moment, then Kyo drives (possibly even more drunk) back home. Again he tosses the dice and leaves it up to higher powers to determine if he will make it home. And there you have it, a square out of the quilted tapestry that is Kyo's life. River Sanzu aka Lit Yagami AKA Ish1da creates a city pop-infused backdrop that perfectly encompasses the nostalgic feel of Kyo's ride through memory lane. One of my favorite songs on the album honestly. Also I'm really mad I didn't produce this because it's amazing. Not quite as mad as Ethos made me that one time but I may still turn into a dog for 3 seconds... GRRRRRRR (DAWG MODE) Quotable: "They say seeing is believing, these demons I'm seeing in my rearview mirror keep chasing, I stay weaving through lanes and I'm.... still thuggin' it, drunk in public and unequpped to handle the mental stresses I struggle with but it's just... One mo' night in Summer '09!"
[Track 5ive] - You Go To My Head (prod. by RealVenom):  Kyo’s strongest quality as an artist is his ability to depict the various aspects of his point of view without sacrificing impact. In “You Go To My Head”, he croons, raps and waxes poetic to the subject of his affection. It’s tender, but in a truly relatable fashion. I consider myself strongly in the romantic camp, so endeavors like these speak to me. I blame my soft heart. The warm lofi provided by RealVenom just makes you feel like you’re by a warm fireplace, keeping warm inside from the harsh winter. A glass of wine, a bag of marshmallows for roasting and some good-looking company and you’ve got a night. Kudos to both Kyo and Venom for making such a dope jam. Quotable: “And if you got me seein’ double... That’s twice as many chances to say I love you...”
[Track 6ix] - Moving To Detroit (prod. by Camp Phire Connection, guitars by Kyo): Here is a fully acoustic affair. Just Kyo, his trusty guitar, and us, the listener. In “Moving To Detroit”, he intimates the lonely predicament of a single man deciding to move to what is considered the saddest city in the country according to a study. He mulls over dating the local women hoping for a shot at love, relates his hopes that any local toughs don’t harass or assault him, and mentions his prior OWI (An incident he explained in detail to me in a conversation we had.) and the consequences thereof. “Moving to Detroit” is a somber, reflective look at both himself and his environment, and rather than feeling like a fly on the wall, we are put right there in the passenger seat as he takes us along for this ride. It’s an eye-opener, for sure. Quotable: “It’s not as bad as everyone says in the city, but every time I head home I feel such relief when I hit the freeway. If I move down there and my friends come visit me, they’ll also get to know how good that feels. I guess you’re welcome...” [Track 7even] - Vignettes feat. Savior Monroe (prod. by Camp Phire Connection): The only vocal guest feature on this album comes from fellow Camp Phire Connection artist and founder Savior Monroe. “Vignettes” is gorgeously produced, a shoegaze-y blues waltz number by Kyo and Savior. Both artists give amazingly heartfelt accounts of grace. of friendship and of humanity. The feeling is just abstract enough, just specific enough. Truly these are just vignettes. But that’s all we needed. Quotable: “But for now I can still paint you with an impressionist’s view. I might not remember the facts, but I still remember the truth.” [Track 8ight] - French Lessons (prod. by Camp Phire Connection, guitars by Kyo): Kyo’s trusty guitar returns once more, fair accompaniment for a sultry number about SEX. Yep. Sex. Who among us doesn’t simply long for the next chance to be intimate with a special someone. There’s something magical about when two souls connect, REALLY CONNECT, for those precious moments. Even sometimes when it’s empty, it’s still grand. Here, Kyo says it all. Quotable: “Sex is empty, sex is death, so baby please kill me then hold me in your arms until I resurrect. Sex is endless, sex is French, le petit mort, the little death, and rebirth and first breath and back again.” Track 9ine] - Snow (prod. by Lé Real): Snow, to put it plain an simply, is hard. Hard as pavement. Once more, we’re right there in the room with Kyo as he relates some tales from his life. I don’t even wanna talk too much about this one. It’s something that just needs to be heard. It’s too real for me to adequately put into words.  Quotable: None, just peep the song. [Track 10en] - Philip Seymour Hoffman (prod. by Kisai The Spooniest Bard): Iono who the hell this Kisai The Spooniest bard dude thinks he is, but we gonna fight because this beat is fire. He could have at least let me rap on this. Not that I’m salty because Kyo did his thing. But seriously this is a great closer. Something about that japanese jazz sample makes such a great backdrop for Kyo to compare himself to Vincent Van Gogh and Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP to two of the greats). As artists our art is what we use to combat the negative feelings that dwell in our mortal minds. Not everyone can win this fight, but Kyo is dead set on winning. If I hadn’t heard this song before judging, I’d have told you that the beat used doesn’t fit the theme of the album, but I’d have been wrong. Kyo made it work like only he could and the result is a track that both producer and artist could be proud of. Quotable: “In a world of visigoths and vandals I’m Vincent Van Gogh, battle depression with insufficient ammo.” [Afterword]: Impressionist Vignettes is a ride, friends. Tonally, It starts low and ends high, moodwise it’s as human as we are. And from an artistic standpoint, it’s probably Kyo’s strongest work to date. I recommend you give it a spin. I learned something and so might you. One final note. Big ups to Savior Monroe on the engineering end. This album sounds great beginning to end. Kisai out. Ja ne~ Peep Impressionist Vignettes here!: https://campphireconnection.bandcamp.com/album/impressionist-vignettes

Synthwave and Chill
My YouTube Journey (so far)
At some point. it seems like every creator wants to take YouTube a little bit more seriously. I’ll admit I have tried over the years and never really got into it. However, starting year four with my “Seattle Superman” Journey, I need to start taking into account ways to monetize and make money doing creative things I love to do. Even tho I have not really ironed that out yet, I do think making money from YouTube will help. I just need to find something I love to do. Although I think I found it now, lets take a look and see where I started.
Car Confessions
When I first moved to Seattle in the van, I thought it would be kinda cool to vlog about “whatever came to my mind” so I started a little series called “Car Confessions.” I would mount my phone on my dash or steering wheel and just talk from there. I think I only made about six episodes tho. I think I decided to stop doing that because I would rather use my time explore and taking Superman photos. So once I stopped, I just never started back up again.
Montana Life
In July 2018 I got a railroad work contract to work in Sidney, MT. One of the main reasons I took this job was because they paid for my hotel room for 18 months. While there, I got back into YouTube for a bit. I started another series where I would do Beer tastings. I think I did over 60 videos for this. Did not get a lot of views tho. So I decided to give this one a rest.
Next up in while in Montana I decided to Vlog about how my Seattle Superman progress was coming along in a weekly series titles “Wednesday Whatsup” I wanted to document all the different ways I was using social media and what I was doing to build my Brand. Nobody really watched this one either. Although, this was more for me to have videos to look back on, so that one day I can see just how far I have come. After about two months, I stopped doing it.
My Biggest Hang Up when It comes to Youtube
I love music, tv shows and movies. I love doing reactions. However, I was afraid to react to stuff I might not like, just for the views. I do not like voicing my opinion on things I do not find interesting to me. But I LOVE sharing my opinion on things I find enjoyable. So I was scared to Make a lot of reaction videos because I really did not want to “put down” something that did not resonate with me. I knew that if I wanted to Make reaction videos I had to find a way to make it work. And I Believe I did. I would just react to stuff I knew I would love. Problem was, what I like isn’t that that popular or trendy or not huge communities on YouTube. So I never bothered. Until now.
Vermont
March of 2020 I had another job contract that was to take place in Burlington, VT. During this time my favorite band (The Killers) Released a new single. And I thought to myself, I love this band, I am sure I will love this song. I should do a reaction to it. So I did. And it found its way around The Killers Community.
So I decided to just Make reaction videos to music and artist and trailers that were interesting to me. Not stuff I really did not care to see.
Pennsylvania
The Vermont contract got canceled early due to the pandemic. I wound up house sitting for a friend who was stuck in California. Wound up in a suburb area of Pennsylvania about 30 miles outside of Philly. During this time The Midnight (One of my favorite synthwave bands) released a new single. I figured “what the heck” I am going to react to things I like, even if it isn’t that popular. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Apparently There is a whole synthwave community on YouTube I never knew about. And Not really anyone doing reactions to that genre either. So I reacted to each of the singles before their newest album release. Then I reacted to the full album. This was July of 2020.
Kentucky
September 2020 I received another job contract to go work in Kentucky. They were going to pay for my hotel again and I was excited to start taking my Youtube Reactions a bit more seriously. After arriving at my hotel room, I bought some LED lights, went thrifting to find more retro clothes and retro props. Thought of the name “Synthwave and Chill” and decided to hit the ground running.
I downloaded a bunch of VHS effects for premiere and after effects to really sell a retro vibe as well. Gotta Admit, I am having fun with this. Listen to new synthwave music and music that I already love, on camera, for others to chime in and share their excitement with is pretty cool.
As of this writing, this is my latest video.
Somethings Gotta Give
This contract is pretty demanding. Started off 12 hour days 6 days a week, and it is barely slowing down. I have about another 6 weeks to go. Putting this much effort into Youtube Means more Time here and less time on other socials. I’ll admit I have been in Lexington for about 6 weeks now and have yet to go out and take photos of Superman yet. Trying to utilize this space to make as many retraction videos here as I can is cutting into instagram, twitter and tiktok. I found a little bit of a solution tho. This is really teaching me the power of scheduling my content. I admit I don’t use my Facebook business page as much as I should. And now, I will schedule my Facebook post for the entire week. So that kinda works out. For tiktok I have not been doing cosplay as much, because that takes time. Instead, I have been reacting to ASMR sounds. Even tho I have never done that before (and I am sure it threw a lot of people off) I decided to go that route because I can recored about 10 videos in ten minutes, and upload them throughout the day. Still putting myself on the platform and still being able to be “visible” on there. For instagram, my story post have shot waaaaay up. Because I have not been taking pictures of anything new to post, I have been using my stories more to still socialize with people.
What’s Next?
I have no idea. This Kentucky contract isn’t supposed to go past December. So that means I will be out of this hotel room and this set up, I will more than likely have to Make a whole new setup in my van or wherever I end up next. But I am excited, because I know what and how I want to do on YouTube now,
thanks for reading.

What's your opinion on this robot harry? For me it's so annoying he can't even pretend to be excited for his own tour, his social media presence is such a turn off
Well I’m sort of digging myself a grave with this one, but since I haven’t seen a post I can fully agree with, here we go. Disclaimer, I actually study this at uni. I was the Social Media Manager for the planning and putting together of a fashion show, on all platforms. I just handed in last month a 6-months marketing plan that was based around social media promo. So I do have a bit of knowledge in this area. I am by no means an expert, but this is my future field of choice, so I like to think I’m at least educated.
The situation isn’t as black and white as people have put it so far. All I’ve seen is “he’s horrible at engaging with fans” and “he doesn’t own you shit so stop complaining”. The answer is a very big grey area in which Harry’s actual social media presence fits perfectly in my opinion. First of all, there’s two main templates we studied for marketing purposes this year, Gaynor Lea Greenwood’s promotion suggestions (2009) and Burcher (2013)’s Paid, Owned and Earned media concept. Long story short, the first one is your traditional marketing campaign and the second one relies more on social media and advertising on it. Now, I think Harry’s team went for the more traditional approach, and let me explain why.
Harry started distancing himself more and more from twitter and Instagram ever since the hiatus started.Even before, during OTRA and MITAM promo, most of his tweets were promo stuff, lyrics I’m not sure we fully understand even now, charity work, promoting friends or tweeting about holidays/important days or events. His fan interaction has been low for quite a while, and I’m honestly baffled people are acting like this is news. Looking through his Twitter in 2015, there are some tweets to fans, yes, but they’re very sparse.I counted about 12 in 5 months, most of them in September, when Perfect came out, and around the release of MITAM.His tweets were mostly thanks to fans for various awards and nominalisation, promoting the songs/album, some lyrics and, without fail, after every concert he tweeted a thank you for coming.
It felt more personal than what we have now (tho in all honesty, his tour hasn’t started yet and if we eliminate the OTRA tweets it’s already a different story), but Robot Harry has been a thing then, and people were riding along with it instead of condemning it to the extent they do now. But, the thing is, Harry didn’t have the entire burden of engaging with the fanbase like he has now.Louis, Niall and Liam always took turns in taking the lead in replying to fans and interacting with them, which allowed Harry to do his part and everyone was mostly happy.
And yet, I personally don’t feel this frustration many people feel. I think it’s quite interesting actually. A bold move that wouldn’t work for other artist whose career relies on people who live and breathe social media (maybe Beyonce or Adele, but they are in another league). I was very intrigued by Harry’s statement in the Behind the album video, in which he said that there was a time in his life when people knew everything about him, and he didn’t like it.He has been overexposed since 2012, his personal life splashed across tabloids, fake relationship or not.And now he disappeared for a year (and has been retreating into himself for at least 2) and he wrote this mysterious™ album, trying to see if people can listen and understand it without knowing much about the current him. In this context, having an album that surrounds itself in mystery and then doing 4 Q&As on twitter and 3 livestreams sends…extremely contradictory messages. I can, and will fault his team for presenting a dual image of Harry that sometimes makes 0 sense, for handling a lot of things so poorly, and for the entire Carolina mess, but I will say that his social media fits this old school mysterious rockstar image they’re showing of him. I also think his actual reason is very personal and very real, and I respect the fact that he didn’t compromise this choice he made for promo purposes.
His promo relied on more traditional channels. TV and radio appearances, print magazines, and most importantly, the secret gigs. Now, I’m sorry, but I felt entirely more connected to Harry running across London at 8AM in my pyjamas than by any twitter spree he’ll ever do. I never did this before. This reminded me of the stories my dad told me, of queuing up for days in front of the box office so he’d get the tickets when they went on sale. It was very old school and it worked for me. It was a phenomenal experience, something I will never forget. And he did this for us. All profits went to charity, he didn’t do this for money. And while I know this was for a few selected cities and a handful of lucky fans, it was intimate and it was special and I think everyone, regardless if they were there, or vicariously living through pics and videos, felt a connection to Harry. We got emotional on his behalf when he sang with his idol on stage 2 weeks later, you don’t do that for someone you have no connection to.
Now, the actual reason I’m happy with what we’ve got is that it is genuine from my POV. Liam is the perfect candidate for a comparison, since he also took a bit of a break from social media (not as heavy as Harry’s, but he definitely wasn’t as active as Louis or Niall) and his promo is as textbook as it gets. He slowly, but surely increased his activity since January, a few more tweets, a few more pics on Instagram.A big turning point was April when he posted 13 pics on Instagram, compared to 8 in March, 4 in February and 3 in January. His Twitter went through a similar process. Now, the moment he started posting more, I knew his music was gonna be out soon. It’s pure marketing. You start your campaign weeks before the actual launch, it’s only natural. Unless you want to drop it as a surprise, but that’s another discussion. Actually Harry did it too, with the TV ad, but that was ruined by the info getting leaked beforehand and everyone getting pissed off by that so whatevs. Now, Liam is going for the approachable celeb route. Streams, Instagram stories, snapchat, tweeting fans, loads of pics, videos with popular Youtubers. It’s nice and about as well handled as it gets (apart from that weird video release earlier than it should have been and Liam just generally being a bit…odd?off?idk how to explain it, but a lot of people feel the same way from what I’ve seen). It fits with the image Liam is going for, it aims at the right target audience. He’s not trying to enter a new market like Harry is. He’s consolidating his place in the current market from what I’ve seen (and I’ll admit I haven’t followed his promo as closely as Harry’s). Trying to imagine Harry doing this sort of promo doesn’t really work for me.
Niall has been present on and off social media ever since he came back from his trip last year. Literally, if I pull up the calendars people have been making each month, he doesn’t get more than a handful of days without doing something, so it’s unfair to compare him to the others, since he’s always around and posting and doing stuff.
Louis deserves a better team and I won’t have anyone uttering anything else in my presence, and yet somehow, despite Niall’s constant presence and Liam’s textbook engagement, I’ll never feel as connected to them as I feel to Louis. Louis’ tweets are the perfect mixture of absolutely adorable fan service (“our year” 😭😭) and some of the things he’s passionate about (tv shows, fashion, footie/sports). His promo for JHO was….I have no words for it and I’m gonna have a rage fit if I start thinking about it, but his overall persona is charming and endearing when he’s posting things himself. He created a real communication channel between us and him and he knows how to use it when he needs to send a message (warning selfies anyone?Only you?). There’s an actual analysis of Instagram stats that shows he’s the number 1 male account in engagement and overall likes and that doesn’t surprise me one bit. Louis is a smart businessman, he has a loyal fanbase who is here for him through thick and thin.
And on top of everything I said so far, none of them owe us anything outside the promo bubble. Apart from shoots, songs/albums/tours info and official announcements, they do not owe us anything. If they chose to share a picture from their home, that’s their personal space, and while it’s good for PR, amazingly good in a society that thrives from the feeling of knowing everything about everyone (like what’s your fave’s breakfast and how’s their cat is doing), it’s still a part they can choose to keep private and no one should be entitled to ask for more.
Have you seen Adele’s Instagram? It gives you this illusion of closeness to her, with make up free selfies, funny poses and landscape shots. Too bad literally everything is from touring and other official appearances right? There’s one picture of her home, and that’s to celebrate the end of the tour. Harry sort of did the same with the booklet pictures. He allowed you into his personal space in a controlled manner, just like Adele did. Only he did it in a different way. His promo is just different and you have to think a bit outside the box to see that he actually did a lot of things other artists do. Just a bit differently. Was it perfect?Fuck, no. Was it as bad as many people make it look like?Personally, I don’t think so. It was just different and people are entirely justified to see it as a good or a bad thing. I see it mostly as a good thing. Mostly.

9. Immolation - Atonement
10. Draugsól - Volaða Land
MB Oji-san’s Top/Ratings of Spring 2017 Anime (not including sequels and even if I did Tsuki ga Kirei is AOTY lmao)
1, Tsuki ga Kirei - I consider myself a romanticist, despite seeming to be a cold hearted ass that constantly listens to Metal and enjoying my own company, I too yearn for a pure love that Tsuki ga Kirei made me witness, yet being quite a cynic myself, I still believe that pure love can blossom in this cruel world, whether it be real or fiction... and who would have thought Tsuki ga Kirei managed to give me that with two simple plain looking Japanese middle school students, Tsuki ga Kirei was as pure as it can be, no random BS like you see in many current romance anime (heck Kimi no Na Wa had to use another plot concept to keep us rooting for the main couple) whilst Tsuki ga Kirei used many precious moments and many forms of conflicts to keep us rooting for Akane and Kotarou to stay with one another. It fascinates me that such a simple yet pretty looking (despite those outplace CG background characters) romance Anime can grab the attention of my heart despite me not being able to relate to the concept (tfw no gf ever) so thank you to studio feel. for allowing me to witness such a pure romance anime, for you have created my current Best Anime of 2017... 9/10
2. Sakura Quest - Well I’m glad at least I’ll be able to watch a show about cute adult Anime girls ACTUALLY working unlike CERTAIN ANIME New Game! during the 2017 Summer season 8.5/10
3. Alice to Zouroku - The character designs were nothing special yet the soundtrack and heart of this series about a grumpy old man nurturing a little girl with special powers into a woman voiced by Yukari Tamura was... WONDER DRIVE!!!! 8/10
4. Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka? - The ending of this series left me in a bit of manly tears yet also with many questions, probably a sub-par adaption in the eyes of those who read the source material yet at least this adaption did its job by advertising the Light Novel 7.5/10
5. Seikaisuru Kado - Goddamn I didn’t want to agree with the critics but the few final episodes of this Sci-Fi series with so much potential drifted it away from said potential, I was kinda disappointed but Kado at least kept me entertained in its beginning stages... 7.5/10
6. Re:Creators - I know this show is gonna be 2 cours but damn does it take long to reach the action, Sawano and the plot itself is overrated but it’s still a good show 7.3/10
7. Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records - Up and down this adaption was going, sadly left with a incomplete rushed ending, I knew this would happen to an Anime based on a light novel/manga like this... well Rumia is an angel so it makes up with that 7/10
8. Renai Boukun - Kiss Note was a decent RomCom, nothing phenomenal but WUG did the OP and MONACA did the OST so, 7/10
9. Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho - meh loli witch and the beast, was a pretty good LN adaption but kinda overrated 7/10
10. Granblue Fantasy The Animation - More like GranWaifu Fantasy The Animation 7/10
11. Fukumenkei Noise - A decent shoujo manga adaption with GREAT MUSIC ALT.ROCK courtesy of Ayahi Takagaki and Saori Hayami! 6.8/10
12. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria - Pretty sure the LN is better but the Anime adaption kinda sucks, well at least the Elf Yuri Vibes between Lefiya and Filvis were great 6.5/10
13. Saekano S2 - Megumi best girl but Utaha stole Aki’s first kiss so this show kinda sucks- well I didn’t expect much from a Harem Ecchi LN adaption so... 6.5/10
14. Hinako Note - Damn, the studio must’ve used all that fanservice in the show to make viewers unaware that this was just another basic moe slice of life Anime, well the OP and ED was great 6.5/10
15. Tsugumomo - Don’t have much to say, was just glad to hear Kiriha have Satania’s VA (Gabriel Dropout was my Anime of Winter 2017) 6.5/10
16. Frame Arms Girls - The F.A Girls were pretty cute and Aoi is pretty cute, too many panty shots but the Japanese audience seem to enjoy it, Base best girl 6.5/10
17. PriPri Chii-chan - Uh.. Momo Asakura and Toyosaki Aki ED, that’s all 6.3/10
18. Clockwork Planet - HOW DOES AN ADAPTION WITH A GIRL LIKE RyuZu AND A GOOD SOUNDTRACK END UP HAVING SUCKY ANIMATION AND PLOT?????? 6/10
19. Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism - Can’t believe people actually liked this generic harem ecchi LN adaption adding action elements so it wouldn’t completely suck, people are entitled to their own opinion and at least the few final episodes were quite brutal and interesting 6/10
20. Sin Nanatsu no Taizai - It’s a sin to watch this show but ay, hot and gay female Lucifir voiced by Kitamura Eri was cool... BOOBS 5.7/10
21. Sagrada Reset - Yui Makino sings the themes but... this show is kinda dead and boring, can’t believe David Production is gonna make this 24 episodes... I will still watch tho 5.5/10
22. Eromanga Sensei - Anime is dying because of series like these, fanservice of 12 year old girls, saying they love dicks and love to be naked while playing piano... Sagiri was cute enough to convince me to continue to watch it but damn the Anime community and industry messed up if they love s**t like this Abomination Reborn/10

i don't really know.  i like garfield.  and courage the cowardly dog. what do you think of your mother?   she's very supportive, loving, funny, rational, and serves as my rock.  i'd be lost as fuck if i didn't have my mom.  just sometimes, she thinks she knows more than she does about me. your father?   i love him so much and i live in constant regret about hating him for so many years.  i wish i'd burned that letter i wrote him in opposition of actually sending that shit, because i wonder all the time if he still thinks about what i told him.  he'd do anything for me, and i hope i can repay him for that one day. your siblings (if there are any)?   tiffany: i don't know you, but i wish i did.  misty: you're great, and i miss you.  katie: you confuse me, but i still love you and hope you're okay.  bobby: hey now, you're an all-star.  seeing you with christian lights up my whole world.  i hope i'm half the parent you are some day.  ashley: we're too much alike in an odd way.  you've been through so much, yet you've come so far as a person.  i mean jesus christ, you're a radiologist!  and to know you were once suicidal, that's so inspirational to me.  you have a husband who loves you, even after, like me, believing you could never love another.  you have two beautiful children who love you so much, but i wonder if they can ever love you like i do.  nicole: i worry about you.  you need to leave that damn boy, he's not good enough for you, and he is going to drag you down.  you're too big and bold a person to be chained.  i worry about your happiness quotient as long as he's around, but regardless, i know you're going to go pretty damn far. how many hours do you spend online a day?   i don't really know, but i can't say i care too much.  i don't get why people treat the internet like it's so horrible.  like, let's think about it.  most people, when they have nothing better to do, what do they do?  they watch television.  i sit on the computer instead.  at least i'm engaging my brain. explain your current feelings for your last ex bf/gf:   i'm entirely aware i'm more than in love with him, i'm obsessed with him.  you ain't truly been in love until it gets that far, hunny. how do you feel about teen relationships?  it's such a cutesy song, and when she first showed it to me, she said it made her think of us.  i hate country, yet i still jam out with her every time we hear it. (: which is more important to you - friends or family?   family.  who says some friends can't be family? which is worse - smoking, drinking, or drugs?   drugs.  easily.  allow me to also clarify, alcohol is a drug, so drinking is pretty equal?  nicotine is a drug too, right? is there one person you would seriously kill if you could get away with it?   um.  only if i wouldn't feel guilty.  which i would. what is the last scary movie that actually scared you?   the only scary movie to ever scare me is "the rite."  only because it played with an irrational fear of mine: being impregnated by satan or a demon in general.  i'm afraid of pregnancy period, but the idea of it being the devil's child and it ripping out of your fucking stomach like can you not what are you listening to?   "gospel" by panic! at the disco.  i love his voice in this song so fucking much.  them high notes in the chorus, tho. what is something you and your significant other do that may seem weird to others?   i'm single. how long have you liked the person you like right now?   five years how many shots can you take?   i've never taken a shot before, and truly, i don't really want to.  i mean i'm sure i will at some point, i just don't have the desire to because i hate the taste of alcohol, and shots are so concentrated. what's a fact about the last person you kissed?   he just turned 23. do you think you're old?   no, shame i feel it, though. are you a jealous person?   in general?  actually, no.  i only get jealous when it comes to jason. when is the next time you will kiss someone?   you tell me. has anybody ever accused you of doing drugs?   i don't think so. do you have a passion for anything?   meerkats!!  photography!!  silent hill and gaming in general!!  rhett and link/gmm!!  heavy metal!! are you a romantic person?   i honestly think i am. what do you think of when i say "lumberjack?"   lmao omg the first thing that came to mind was rhett singing and dancing to the song he made up on the high-heeled lumberjack challenge on gmm. how many children do you want?   one-three.  one if childbirth/pregnancy was way too much, two is most likely, three is a big maybe. do you like mexican food?   nope. do you have a favorite author?   not really. do you have an ex who still talks to you? do they want to be with you again?   if juan even counts, yeah, we talk like what, less than even once a month.  he's made it apparent he wants to be with me again, but pretty sure he's a player, so. do your legs get really itchy after shaving them?   christ, yeah.  my left leg got so itchy once after shaving that i have a large scar going up my shin from scratching it so badly.  even putting lotion on didn't help. do you wear a ring on your finger?   yeah, a ruby/garnet/whatever ring on my right ring finger.  i just put it on permanently the other day.  i got it for christmas. have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced?   it is pierced.  i've thought of taking it out in favor of getting the septum pierced though, but i changed my mind. have you kissed anyone with a tattoo before?   no, but a guy with a tattoo has kissed me. which berry is your favorite?   strawberries, definitely. have you ever tried to learn a foreign language?   i took four semesters of german. would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?   lake. do you love seeing frost hanging off leaves in the winter?   omg yaaass would you ever like to own a chandelier?   hell yeah.  i'm big on those creepy octopus chandeliers. when is the last time you went to a carnival?   oh fuck me.  last time i went to a carnival/festival one night was over a year ago with jason and dillon.  i went on a ride i was terrified of (jason was a bit iffy too; he doesn't like heights), and dillon made a self-mutilation joke that nearly ruined the whole night. how many notebooks do you own? are they all filled?   oh jeez.  LOADS.  i have a drawer filled with 'em... i wanna throw them out though.  really old, embarrassing writings. have you ever lived on a university campus?   no. what’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?   mike's hard, i guess.  not like i've tried many. when was the last time you saw a photo of your ex?   long-ish time ago.  i have a picture from our prom beside my bed, but it's buried beneath papers.  so probably the last time i checked his facebook months ago. do you “binge-watch” tv shows?   haven't done that since "sherlock" with jason. do you play any games on your phone?   not anymore.  i had pokemon go, but i had to get rid of it after i ran out of room on my phone, despite having deleted every other app but pinterest and my period tracker.  not like it's really a fun game for rural players, anyway.  you never have pokeballs because pokestops don't exist. have you ever shaved your face?   no.  i mean i've waxed my eyebrows and lip and plucked stray hairs on my chin, but never shaved it. what was the last vaccination you got?   no idea.  probably for an std, y'know, those shots you get as a teenager. how long does it usually take you to get over a break up?   none. do you have a friend named holly?   i knew a holly in elementary school, but she was never my friend. what are your parents' middle names?   marie and john. does frequent use of swear words offend or upset you?   not at all, because i don't believe in our definition of "profanity."  who honestly gives a valid fuck about whether a word is "bad" or not.  what makes a word "bad," anyway?  however, i do believe in harmful words that i don't like hearing.  like, calling someone a bitch, to me, is just as bad as calling someone a mean person.  because they mean the same thing.  what makes "bitch" worse?  also, i hate derogatory terms to certain groups, like "the 'n' word" for black people.  otherwise, "swear" all you want, i really don't care. when/where did you meet your first love?   well, to be technical, facebook.  i thought he was a jason i did know, so i accepted his friend request.  thank god i did.  he wanted to be my friend to begin with because he saw me in the hallway at school and, according to him, he thought immediately, "that girl's going to save me."  he remembers exactly what I was wearing, everything.  how he found my facebook, i guess i should probably wonder, lol.  it's so funny, how he claims i was going to save him.  and now i'm the one who needs him.  funny shit. how many facebook friends do you have?   yeah.  i hate late homework. do you have any drinking cups with disney characters on them?   we haven't for years.  well, wait.  we may still have some. will you be moving anytime soon?   probably.  we were supposed to get evicted because mom can't afford the rent, yet we're still here.  but our landlord won't be merciful forever; mom still can't pay for it. have you ever written a book? perhaps you are writing one right now?   never finished any... oh yeah!  but one from when i was younger. favorite flavored milk shake?   vanilla do you or your best friend play in a band?   nah. can two living souls become one?   figuratively, sure, literally, no. last song you listened to and what does it mean to you?   i'm listening to "ready to go" by panic! at the disco.  first time listening to it; i'm on a panic! streak.  it just started, so no opinion yet. have you seen the entire harry potter series?   no.  jason and i watched a couple of the movies, but i could never get into it. have you ever been put to sleep for surgery?   i actually don't know.  i had tubes put in my ears as a baby, but i don't remember it at all. have you ever had a pregnancy scare?   okay this is funny.  despite never having sex, my anxiety made me believe by some miracle dry-humping had gotten me pregnant because i missed my period.  like i was so panicked i was even talking about it with jason.  god bless that man, i can only IMAGINE what he must've thought. when was the last time you went bowling?   some months ago with colleen, bradley, and girt. are you expected to help fix thanksgiving dinner?   no. have you ever lost anyone close to cancer?   no, thank god. do you personally know anyone who is transgender?   dude, fuck latin. do you know anyone named amity?   no, but that's a cool name! what do you think of people who always wear make-up?   i really try not to have an opinion because that's really not my business at all, but i can't help but feel a bit sad.  like... i dunno, i just think you should be more comfortable with your own skin instead of always feeling like you've gotta cover it.  my older sister was like that for years, and it always made me sad, because she's so beautiful.  she wouldn't go out without it or take pictures if she didn't have some on. is there a smell that gives you headaches?   gasoline. what’s your least favorite thing about summer?   everything?  can i say everything??? have you ever wanted to vlog?   not really.  i lead a boring life and i am WAY too shy and awkward. do you have any of the guitar heroes/rock bands?   plenty.  original, ac/dc, metallica, green day, van halen, greatest hits, and i'm positive i'm missing some. have you ever worn flip flops in the snow?   lmao yes. do you ever wonder what your ex or most recent “thing” is up to?   of course i do. have you ever moved to a different state?   nope.  been in nc my whole life. have you ever been to germany?   no, but i'd REALLY like to go! what decade do you think is the best musically?   hm.  '80s. have you ever written poetry or fiction?   yup.  some cringy stuff lmao. have you ever lived with your girlfriend/boyfriend?   yes.  we lived with another couple, who were our friends. how do you feel about your relationship status?   it's boring and lonely. how many relationships have you been in?   one legitimate one.  one puppy-love.  one misunderstanding that lasted less than a day. what’s something you do that really frustrates people who are closest to you?   i can be VERY passive and submissive.  like, ask me what i wanna do?  "i don't care."  wanna do this, brittany?  "if you want to."  is this fine for dinner, brittany?  "sure, if you feel like making it."  colleen HATES this about me. do you care what people think?   sometimes.  sometimes not at all.  sometimes way too much. is there anyone in your life that knows right away something’s wrong with you?   not anymore.  jason was like that.  it was supernatural. do you like the color yellow?   no, actually. what was your favorite game when you were a child?   the spyro games. when was the last time you had blood drawn?   last time i was at the er for mental reasons.  they always take your blood to ensure you're not on drugs. have you ever hated someone but felt pity for them at the same time?   honestly?  no. what eyeshadow color suits you best?   black, baby. in regards to kissing, full on making-out or will a peck suffice?   depends on where we are and how passionate we're feeling. are you a ke$ha fan?   no. how short is too short for shorts/skirts?   please at least keep your full ass covered. have you even swam in a lake? did you freak out about the germs, afterwards?   i have, and not particularly. have you ever snuck-out to see a guy?   nope. does your cell-phone take decent pictures?   NO.  i actually still have my old phone just to take my selfies lmao. have you ever sexted?   it's my biggest regret. have you ever posed topless with a friend?   i have not. do you shed hair everywhere you go?   ha ha yeah. where do you part your hair?   to the far left do you talk with your hands?   absolutely.  jason used to make fun of me for it, then he started to do it. do guy's adams apple's gross you out?   no. lil' wayne, hopsin, kanye west, or kid cudi?   i don't particularly like any of them, but there is a song by hopsin that makes me laugh. have you ever questioned your mental health?   i'm not questioning it, i've accepted it. when you go to the beach, are you swimming, tanning, playing, or searching for shells?   swimming and looking for shells! do you wash your hair every day?   no, that's bad for you. do you have long eyelashes?   my old english teacher stopped class just to point out they were once lmao.

Daybe's Thoughts on The New Jason Isbell Record, Without Research
H/T to Mr. Thoughts on The Dead
I wanted to like this album. Well, at first I was wary, but by the time they FINALLY released it, after holding it for 8 weeks during national quarantine, the whole time which the record had been finished, mastered and pressed, I had talked myself into wanting to like it.
  I don’t hate it so much as….
  I WANTED TO LIKE IT.
I have a friend who hates slow music. This isn’t the thing where I’m “asking for a friend.” She really says “even fast songs that are actually slow music are terrible.”
About 86% of the time I 100% agree with her. This is where we get to the heart of my problem with Jason Isbell solo records.
  This is boring music.
I get it, it’s Poignant. Keep mining the purity of the south with a gothic twist. Tell me again how sobriety is hard.
Either that or have the courage to be a drunken buffoon – which makes you poetic.
Overall this is a boring samey-sounding album, and I would argue his second misstep in terms of music that I’ll return to, after The Nashville Sound, which is a fucking snoozer.
After his dig in the press about Ryan Adams, I learned that there is a song on The Nashville Sound called “Chaos and Clothes” which is about Ryan Adams. I had to look up the song and listen to it upon hearing the title, because I didn’t have any recollection of having heard it.
  It’s not a good song.
  Or a remarkable song.
Despite being about a guy he’s obviously obsessed with, amirite?
I do like the line about “Death Metal T Shirts” though.
Be better if it was The Eagles of Death Metal.
Or All Night Drug Prowling Wolves.
You were doing a good job of keeping this on track
Oh yeah, Reunions. New album by Mr. and Mrs. Jason Isbell and The 400 Units
That’s not fair. You barely mention Yoko Tammy in your song by song review bit you stole from Thoughts on The Dead after Chrid and Chaz made fun of you.
  AHEM
Released to much fanfare and press ogling.
So much press ogling that I got caught up and started to ogle.
In politics there’s The Full Russert.
So what do we call Koppleman Pod, Hyden Fawning, New York Times Article and a full length story on The CBS Sunday Morning Liberal Good Time Power Hour?
“Pay attention to this one Southern guy who let’s you in on the jokes we tell about our neighbors?”
  You’re such a dick
I didn’t love any of the songs I heard that were released as a teaser. I thought they were all pretty meh, for pretty much the same reasons.
They weren’t terrible but they also led me to not pre-order the album.
I pre-ordered it but you heard it before me!
  Howzat?
I ordered direct from the label and it finally just got here yesterday
Shoulda ordered it from an Indie™ Record Store, from the approved list of Stores Tammy Likes
Shouldn’t the label be treated the same way? It’s direct from them. No Middleman. More change to jingle in the coin purse between her tits!
Now you’re starting to sound like me.
Quiet you. I still haven’t listened. Sorry they changed the rules on my halfway through not releasing their album. They sure weren’t in a hurry.
It’s a slower pace of life down here, Gar.
I hate you – I’m just saying they could have included people like me who ordered direct from the label and gave them more money for her Tammy Tops and his terrible sneaker habit
It’s not about MONEY, MAAAAANNN! They’re supporting indie shops. The Plandemic is wreaking havoc on the economy, and we gotta save the dudes who made enough in banking during the last crisis to open over priced record stores to sell hipster douchebags like us vinyl copies of stuff we used to own on CD.
I’m losing patience. You told me you had “some thoughts” on the new record. I accused you of having a weird obsession, to show me you don’t you stole an idea we gave you about a dumb blog…
  Yeah
I only listened to three of the four songs released before the full record was put out.
  I didn’t listen to Only Children. Keep reading – I guess I still haven’t.
  THE POINT!
  Oh yeah.
The other day, in the run up to the release, I flashed to a long forgotten review of Wilco’s “Summerteeth” from the time it was released that said something to the effect of “Jeff Tweedy still thinks repeating the name of the same over and over is a good stand in for a real chorus”
The same might be said for Jason Isbell on Reunions
What Have I Done to Help?
Jesus Christ Trump has broken everyone’s brains.
This song was written after reading the Mr. Rogers anecdote “Look to the helpers too many times”
This is better than I thought
The lyrics are better than I thought
            It’s too repetitive
            It’s too long
  Dreamsicle
Did they make the vinyl orange because of this song?
Or is it called dreamsicle because they wanted Orange vinyl?
This is very dangerously close to being a Cracker Barrel country song.
            Did granddaddy take you fishin?
            Lightning Bugs??
            Where’s Dave Daniels?
  Only Children
I’m listening to this as I write my thoughts in real time
I forgot to write anything down here
            Unremarkable
  Overseas
The sound is interesting at first
This is where I can hear what he was talking about in interviews about chasing an 80s sound
            Whooo boy
            Lyrics bad
            Chorus worse
  Eyes Closed
            80s Soundz!
Are we sure this isn’t produced by Ryan Adams?
Sounds like Isbell cum Kcor and Llor Era DRA
Still just repeating the name of the song as the chorus
  River
            He’s a slave owner?
            CANCELLED!
OK he’s some kind of rich guy who did bad things to get money?
But tries to take care of his people?
            Guilty Conscience Melodrama
Not the worst song on here
Is there a Spanish guitar undertone?
“Wake up staring at my wife”à Fiddle Lick is either self-awareness or a complete lack of awareness about Yoko Tammy.
I’m gonna go with B, because say what you will about them, he is very dedicated to her and that’s nice to see. Especially after she offered to by McAllan for his not quite relapse so he didn’t have to drink Listerine.
  Be Afraid
What Have I Done to Help Redux?
Two sides of the same extremely repetitive recitation of the song title as chorus coin
It actually sounds a little like a Truckers song at the beginning
            Morphs into that 80s/Springsteen/DRA sound
  St. Peter’s Autograph
Is this in a higher key than it should be? Is that what they call it? I’m not a musician
WAY TOO SLOW. I heard him talk about this on Koppelman, so I was prepared for it  to be slow. But it’s like not slow enough to be a dirge. Maybe they shoulda made it a dirge?
Nails that folk singer thing where it’s like mumbly and then clear tho.
  It Gets Easier
            I haven’t had a drink in almost a year. 10 ½ months. I’ve had 2 drinking dreams.
I’ve never really been tempted to drink
So this doesn’t ring true to my experience
            DON’T MAKE IT ABOUT YOU
Who dreams about anything twice a week?
            What adult remembers their dreams?
            It’s for effect, you dummy!
OH, well, the effect it had on me is “I guess I was never an actual alcoholic. Maybe I’m just a real partier?”
This gets to the heart of my question about mining sobriety for too much?
MEH. AS FUCK
It’s been remarkably easier to not drink than to make it through this record
That’s a cheap shot!
I know.
Sometimes in reviews and in our terrible internet meme-based culture you have to stake out one side and die on that hill.
  That’s a mixed metaphor
  Tammy wouldn’t allow it
She was gonna be an English teacher before the rack job.
  That’s made up, isn’t it?
  Maybe
  Where were we?
Oh yeah, I don’t hate this song, or any song on this album
  I just expect more
  That’s your problem
  What is?
  Expectations!
  It’s True
I tried very hard to set the bar low, figuring it might surprise me
Then I read reviews and interviews.
The one where he talks about over producing his first album really got to you didn’t it? Celebrities – they’re try hards just like us!
  I like Jason
He’s witty and funny
And a Great Musician
He’s a good ambassador
For the region
For getting cleaned up
For the Bitter Southerner Meets Stoner Dad Who Watches Southern Charm and Likes Expensive Sneakers set
  You mean you?
  OF COURSE!
I want to like this more
It’s very slow
And doesn’t do much for me
  It’s…….. a Jason Isbell Record.
I cued it up again, trying to focus on the sound on my second run through.
Ya know The Vibe? The thing that you can’t put your finger on that makes a thing a thing.
  Sure.
Anyway, my mind drifted to seeing him in concert again.
The setting was definitely more Lyric Theater than MPAC.
The crowd was a lot of selvage denim, beards and elaborate barbershop hair cuts. Work boots, but like, $250 work boots. Belt buckles.
Like you’d dress if you were 4 inches shorter and had muscle tone?
  You’re not my real dad!
A lot of dudes with their eyes closed, singing along to these songs like they’re hymns. Drinking in the “depth” of Saint Isbell.
House lights are down. Stage lighting is just a spot on him
Don’t forget the soft lighting on Tammy!
Did you notice I barely mentioned her in the review? She really takes a step back here, IMO.
Strangely that might not be a good thing?
Jesus now you’re a Tammy apologist?
She don’t gotta apologize for them titties!
GET BACK TO THE FAKE SHOW YOU CONJURED UP, YOU DUNCE
Right after he sings “It gets easier”
He says “But it never gets easy!” and the house lights come up, and his voice goes up 3 notches in volume, and the stoned dads (some of whom are sipping 1-3 canned IPAs) cheer.
  Rinse Repeat
  JESUS, YOU HATE FUN
  Kind of
  There’s another song on here
  What?
  Yeah – Letting You Go
Oh yeah, the bro country sounding joint about his daughter?
I actually like this and give it a pass for being a cheesy dad song.
If I still drank, I’d cue this up and get weepy!
You just said you don’t think about drinking!
I said I don’t DREAM about drinking!
  You are so fucking awful
  The. Worst.
Also, this sounds like something I know.
The cadence. The flow of the song.
Jesus you do this all the time
  I DO NOT
Remember the time you got blotto at Springsteen and insisted that American Land was the same as The Georgia Tech fight song?
  It is!
  It is not!
Well, it sounded like it that night
We know, you sang it the whole way home
  I was dreaming about drinking!
God you’re a dick, but I’m going to let that one pass before this ends up being 5000 words
Why does a Dawg know the words to Rambling Wreck?
We are both going to have to let some things pass if you ever want me to end this
                           ……
(this sounds weirdly like Seven Years in Michigan in parts)
(the fiddle really ads something)
(Super 8 is still his best song)
      KILL. YOUR. SELF.

#Empire S4 Ep3 Evil Manners * Recap & Review*
Episode Rating Scale: (8 ) Enjoyable
This season hasn't given me the excitement of previous seasons. But that okay, I am done watching feeling. It's that enjoyable feeling. Like, it's nice to see Lucious caring about his family. Especially the moments he has been having with Jamaal. Now isn't the time for his memory to be gone. The biggest enemy the Lyons Family has just got information that will impact them heavy. Let's recap this episode.
Lucious is still trying to get his self together. Cookie, Jamaal, Dre, Hakeem, and Bella came to visit. It looks like Mama Leah words affected him. He wants to know why he was called a monster. Lucious asked his family to tell him the horrible things he has done to each of them. Cookie refuses to do that. But I don't understand why. She wants him to get his memory back, and maybe something will trigger it. In previous episodes hearing about himself triggered something. Hakeem told him he punched him in the face. He then tried to get Jamaal say to him about the trash can story. Cookie put an end to all that. Can't help but I wonder if Cookie wants the old Lucious back or is Dwight growing on her. Funny how no one knew Dwight was his real name. Now he prefers to be called Dwight vs. Lucious. Again, Lucious asked Cookie where she been for 17 years. Cookie refuse to answer, but she has a flashback moment of her first night there. That guard had mad jokes, and at first, I thought he was helpful. As usual, Cookie walks out without giving Lucious answers.
Ms. Dubois have a meeting with her entourage. Revenge is the only thing she is eating since Angelo's career has been destroyed. Funny, to me he destroyed his career. He is the one who aired out his dirty scandals. Now, Warren is winning Jamaal over but what Miss Thang think she is going to do with Dre. She is not even Dre type. Angelo has turned to drinking. The powerful, confident man we saw last season is not there. As they reference the Lyons as The Wizard of Oz characters, Angelo sit drunk and making jokes. His mother reminds him why they have to do this in the first place. She pissed at him too for falling for Cookie. As Ms. Dubois stated, "You let this trash in our lives." Ms. Dubois did warn Cookie what would happen if she hurt her son. But she is genuinely sleeping on Cookie. Cookie has so much on her plate; she doesn't realize her storm is brewing. She wants Dre brains broken, but she doesn't realize he is crazy on his own. She wants Jamaal's heart destroyed. It's no telling what she wants from Hakeem. She just wants the Lyon clan buried in the grave.
Cookie has her photo shoot for Empire. But she really can't focus. She has another flashback of her prison days. Andre interrupts the photo shoot. Empire needs funding for the 20/20 project. As always, Dre finds the money. Jamaal spends time with Lucious. He plays Chasing the Sky melody for Lucious. Lucious is intrigued and asked Jamaal to take him to the studio. Thirsty lets Jamaal and Lucious in a secret entry. Thirsty seems to be hoping Lucious was faking memory lost. He asked Lucious, "you really don't remember boss." Funny how Lucious doesn't like Thirsty way of dressing but who does. Lol.
Cookie is having her meeting about the  20/20 project. Now, Empire does not have that many artists so I want to see how she pulls this off. Shine interrupts the meeting. Shine is apart of the board, but somehow Cookie didn't invite him to the meeting. I mean Shine, Cookie and Lucious are frienemies. I would love to see them back at being friends. Them three together would be dangerous venom. Shine not happy about his (1) album expectations. Cookie walks out of the meeting. Again, her mind is polluted about being in jail. While in her office, Shine comes in. He wants (10) albums. Shine and Cookie negotiate his album deals. He settles for (5) albums. Shine said he like working with Cookie vs. Lucious. I wonder did he mean that. Hmmmmmm.
Dre isn't off the hook yet. Vegas still hasn't cleared him as a suspect. Dre is pinning this murder attempt on Guiliana, but it wasn't. Thirsty tell him he is on it, but Thirsty doesn't know the full story. He doesn't know that it was Shine and Dre trying to kill Lucious. Using Guiliana is a good move tho. She does have motives.  Dre visits the detective working on his case. Seems like she is turned on by Dre. But is she? Is she trying to solve a case or is she a Dubois too? She is really into Dre. She was even turned on by his sudden appearance outside her job.  But where is Nessa? Why is Dre different to me this year? Could it be all the losses he has to face lately? Could it be guilt about Lucious condition? Could it be, he had it all but destroyed it? Dre just doesn't seem like Dre to me; or is it the meds?
Cookie and Dre arrive at the bank. Instead of the banker they were scheduled to see, they get another banker. Is this a good or bad thing for the Lyons? Turns out to be a bad thing. Empire was denied the line of credit. Dre was shocked. The reason was they are using caution in the entertainment business. However, Cookie saw through the bull crap. She also called him on it, but she handled it classy but with a taste of ratchetness.
Back at Empire, Jamaal shows Lucious around. Lucious can't believe all this is his empire.  You see a tender moment between  Lucious and Jamaal. You even see a little smiling. That's  a good moment. They end up in the studio and Jamaal gets a call that Warren is here to see him. The family is keeping Lucious condition within the family, so Warren surprise visit he doesn't need right now. Jamaal brushes Warren off before he could meet Lucious. Back in the studio Jamaal plays Chasing the Sky melody again. Lucious doesn't feel connected to the music or the studio. Instead, Lucious and Jamaal sit and talk. But the talk was interrupted by Shine. Lucious calls Shine by his full name, Moonshine. Lmao. Really? Moonshine? Lmao. Lucious seems to think him, and Shine is friends. Shine shares a little of their history, but Lucious is confused. Shine plays a remix beat of a beat Lucious stole from him. While listening, Lucious begin to see some images of who he was and runs out. Shine tries to find out what is wrong with him but Jamaal snatches his arms out of Shine grips. He runs after his father. Why is Lucious so afraid of these images of his life?  Does he really not want to remember the kind of man he was before the bombing?
Dre walks into his office and finds Ms. Detective in his office. He wasn't happy to see her. She questions him about being a scary guy being that he stated: " Lucious was a scary guy." Again, she was flirting with Dre. What is she up to this time? What does she want from Dre honestly?
Back at the mansion, Lucious explains the look he saw in Shine eyes to Jamaal. He knows Shine is a violent man and he felt that Shine was looking for that part of him. Lucious doesn't remember how violent, manipulative and devious his was. However, I think he knows he was. He seeks answers, but everyone is trying to protect him from the truth of his life and the person he was. He asked Jamaal was he a violent man like Shine. What he wanted to know was his music dark. I feel if he asking then tell him. They can deliver the truth gently but honestly. Only answer what he asks. He can't get his memory back with unanswered questions. Lucious wasn't gentle when Jamaal was going through his stage fright after being shot. Am I just saying? Btw, where is Freda anyway?
Lucious knows his family is trying to protect him, but he feels they trying to protect him from him. Honestly, they are. Dwight and Lucious are two different people. Dwight has a soul. He is caring, loving, considerate and thoughtful. Lucious is cold-hearted, heartless, devilish and a monster. Could Dwight handle that truth? Well, Jamaal caved. He told Lucious about him putting him in a trash can for dressing like a woman. Jamaal tried to make it easy to hear and justify Lucious actions, but Dwight was remorseful for Lucious. He apologized to Jamaal for not accepting him for who he was. I like that Jamaal was honest with him. This was a good moment. A tender moment. I kind of like Lucious is making amends for all he has done, but then it doesn't mean anything if he gets his memory back. If he becomes the man he was again, then his amends doesn't mean nothing.
Cookie attends to the Ladies in a Business shooting. Hakeem is working on his music while Tiana plays with Bella. Anika shows up to see Bella. Anika is talking about taking Bella with her, but Hakeem said she is not taking her. Bella isn't used to Anika. She runs back to Tiana. Anika makes it clear to Hakeem, she is still Bella's mother. Bella can't remember, but he better not forgets. I know that's right Anika. She won't be letting Hakeem and Tiana play house with her daughter. Lol.
CHECK OUT ANIKA CLAIMING HER DAUGHTER
Back at this Ladies in Business shooting. Ms. Dubois is there. She is talking about Cookie to the other ladies. Cookie approaches her and tells her to say what she has to say to her.  Ms. Dubois reminder of who she is brings on another flashback of Cookie in jail. This flashback shows the ladies in jail supporting one another, being there for each other and helping each other out. It doesn't portray the image of jail as we normally see. I really liked that. But that moment, that memory gave Cookie the heart to face the bougie women with class. She opens up about the day she just had. She explains her being denied a line of credit even though everything was legit. She was a bigger person with Ms. Dubois. She asked to put the bad blood behind them. However, Cookie doesn't realize Ms. Dubois has her family heads waiting for platters. She isn't letting anything go. After Cookie speech, she walks off. One of the ladies step up and say she understands. She also gave Cookie 10 million dollars. Doors open wider for Cookie as the other ladies offered money as well. Girl power works sometimes, but Ms. Dubois is the fakest. She gives Cookie a complaint. She then says it's time to put the hostility behind them. She grabs Cookie's hand as the photographer takes pictures. We all know she is lying and faking. Cookie better not believe her because she isn't sincere at all.
And we learn the truth. Cookie was right. Ms. Dubois gets in her car and who is inside. The banker who denied Empire line of credit. Wow!! Ms. Dubois ties run deep. Hakeem is in the studio recording his new track Shut Up. Andre gives Ms. Detective a strip show. Like is she stalking Andre? Warren turns up his game with Jamaal. He plays on Jamaal's daddy issues. I don't know if his story was true about his daddy issues, but he is playing it out. And OMG, Jamaal trust him with the most prominent family secret. Jamaal just gave the enemy the ammunition Ms. Dubois needs to take the Lyon family down.
Cookie comes home to find Lucious painting. She takes this moment to tell Lucious the truth. She tells Lucious she was in jail for 17 years and it was because of him. Lucious tells her he wants to know everything. He wants to know the why and the how it's because of him. Will that be the moment Lucious get his memory back? Will Cookie finally get her overdue apology from Lucious? Will Lucious and Cookie rekindle their love and friendship on such a deeper level than how it was before? Could this be their second chance under better circumstances? Stay tuned in to see if we get the answers to these questions.
