ALRIGHT I'M MAKING THE POLL!

For my next liveblog, of anime, to run alongside Kamen Rider Ryuki, I'm presentiiiing.... 12 options!

Blue Gender's a scifi with some horror and with mechs, and from what I've heard it has a very cool woman, a loserman with weird cancer disease, violence, and crabs.

Mou Ippon is a show about a girls' judo club, and it would be the first sports anime I finish if I put it on! Got recommended it for being a non-horny girls sport anime, i like the designs, its got rivalries, and ive heard its underrated!

Asteroid In Love is vaguely a yuri, it's got an astronomical theme, I can never locate the manga for it, and I rarely watch slice of life shows so it also sems like a change of pace. Might not be too fun to liveblog tho?

MoNoNoKe is a show ive heard is fucking insane. About a medicine seller who hunts yokai with it all being morally ambiguous, wildly visual, and deliberately bizarre. Seems very fun to blog and watch, though maybe disorienting

SSSS Gridman is the only thing Tsubaraya has that isn't ultraman, and it has evil yuri megatron or so I've heard. Mech show with characters! got kaiju! comes highly recced.

Zetman seems to be both tokusatsu-y and stupidly edgy. That's al I know, that and the title character looks like an utter dingus!

Ex-Arm is a trainwreck masquerading as a yuri masquerading as a cyberpunk masquerding as a trainwreck masquerading as pornography. Few things have looked more funnybad on visuals alone. Also Zero Berzerker seems to be there

Agatha Christie's Great Detectives is an old show about both Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot occurring at the same time. Seems to be an interesting way to connect two series of mysteries. Also there is a bird and a girl

Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna is a mystery show with a beautifully grating OP about some sort of murder, some people called Blade Children, a class reporter hounding a protagonist to see if he's a murderer maybe?? There appears to be a kaworu and a misato. It compels me

Air is about a puppeteer searching for a Winged Maiden and I have absolutely no clue what it's doing in my list. Look at this cool art i found

Ajin is a 3d grimdark? anime about zombies slash Orphnochs being hunted by the government and its got horror and gore. and ghost?

Canaan is a TYPE-MOON work, though doesn't seem to be in the Fateverse or the Tsukihimeniversity, it has mercenaries, violence, hopefully yuri, and even more hopefully the Nasu Dialogue we all know and love.

Regardless! These are the choices for the anime to stand alongside Kamen Rider Ryuki in liveblogs once i'm done with Vampire Miyu!

the time test decides all. . . .

looking back at this blog, I was not harsh enough on some shows....

I mean, okay, I was rating stuff I watched, and I didn't watch every show. . . . .but man, in retrospect some of this shit was a waste of time.

like, I'm sorry, Kill La kill . . . .what the fuck, man?

THAT is how you end that fucking show??!! It was #5 in my top 10 2014 shows. . . . . . . it can come down, honestly. I can be like. . .11th.

I hate Trigger, bro.

They fucking suck.

nothing they have done since Little Witch has been worth a shit. Either they give it a shitty ending, fill it with otaku pandering trash, or both (hi edgerunners). They are so overrated. ugh.

Psycho Pass 2. . . . . . . . . . I was not harsh enough on that show.

I recently said Psycho Pass is the True Detective of anime "because everyone will tell you only the first season is good, but it's actually only the second season that's bad". I didn't want to admit it was bad at the time, I don't think. I can now though. I've never rewatched it. . . . like ever. . .I have never rewatched Psycho Pass 2. I'm about to rewatch 3, because I saw providence over the summer. I figure I will still like it. I thought 3 was an improvement over 2 for sure (it should be, the movies were also better than 2). I kinda realize it's a case of "be careful what you wish for". Psycho Pass DID NOT NEED TO BE A FRANCHISE. Read that again.

Your problem is you kinda made people wanna see if anyone manages to take down sibyl system, so you teased sequels half the fanbase doesn't expect because it's not an otaku pandering show (even if you keep teasing that fucking stupid obvious ship. . .which if they ever confirm that ship i'm throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Kunizuka/Karanomori is the only couple that show needs. . .ever. . .). That first season is unmatched. Still. Urobuchi keeps leaving it to other people to try. If you didn't have time to write another season, another season wasn't' needed. Straight up. The reason manga is so much better than american comics is they don't just pass the story around. The original creator sees it through to the end. Urobucher out here using the MARVEL method with Psycho Pass. That's why quality goes down. There's something to be said for having one legendary season and never coming back. Samurai Champloo still has no sequel. Don't get me wrong though. the movies have been good and season 3 on first watch was pretty fucking cool (but this is coming from a guy that used to watch a lot of CBS crime shows and seeing CSI and the Mentalist combined was a trip, ha ha)

what else? Ajin ended up being crap.

I was undecided how i felt about the end of Tokyo Ghoul at the time. years later, I hate it. So basically, the anime was ruined and the manga had a rushed cop out ending. Just a major disappointment all around, sadly.

That's about all i need to clarify here.

I can’t believe I ever let cringe culture ruin anime for me

2021.05.16 Finally I watched Midnight Sun today! 🤩😭 Seeing Jinki acting, singing and dancing on stage was incredible. This role just fits him so much. He portrayed Haram wonderfully. His expressions are so adorable you just can’t help but smile from ear to ear! (I’m still smiling although the play ended 6+ hours ago!😭) He’s such a great actor in both cute and emotional scenes. And HIS VOICE. What can I say that we don’t already know? His powerful voice still resonates in my ears. How I wish they could release all the songs he sang because I really wanna listen to them again😭 Especially “A melody called you”.

The chemistry with Ajin is very good! Her voice is amazing and when they sing together, their voices blend beautifully! 💕 I loved them a lot. The whole cast is wonderful tho! Especially Haena’s dad and Bom. Their performance gave me goosebumps! 😭👏🏻

I watched “Taiyō no uta” a month ago and overall this was a great musical adaptation to the movie. Definitely worth a watch! (Even more than one... How do I fight the urge to buy another ticket? 💸😭)

Courtship - Part 3 (AjinWeek21/1)

Notes: So I decided to continue this for Ajin Week 2021! (although I was torn between making this a Sato fic cause you know. Hat.)

Day 1: Favorite character / summer break/ hat

Favourite character: Both Kei and Kou are among my favourite characters, Kei especially is one of my favourite protagonists of all time, and summer break, because this place during the sweltering time that is training camp. (fun! :D)

“Really?” Kei asks with growing annoyance as the vampire movie plays out on the screen in front of them. “Really?!”

“I can’t believe you haven’t seen that!” Kou defends himself, depositing the bowl of chips into Kei’s lap so his hands are free to adjust the volume.

“This is not what I had in mind when I agreed to…well, dating you.” Kei says, lowering his volume at the last three words that seem a little too foreign too pronounce.

“Why not?” Kou replies, “Movie nights are a super normal thing to do, not even for a date-“ He in comparison, has zero trouble adequately naming their current situation – “or with friends!” He smirked, which could never mean anything good: “Which you’d know, if you had any-“ Kou winces as Kei’s elbow rams into his side.

“I did have friends.” Kei grumbles through his teeth, stretching out his feet over the old and battered, but still quite comfortable couch. This is, surprisingly, afar more relaxing activity than he had initially anticipated.

Even if the movie is grating on his nerves.

“Why is everyone trying to befriend her?” he asks, exasperatedly. Bella Swan had made it perfectly clear that she was not interested in socializing from the moment she had arrived in her father’s rainy suburban town. And yet, in the first half an hour, not only had her childhood best friend shown up, she’d also been introduced to numerous classmates and faculty, and on top of that, was subtly encouraged to take a glance at a family of – vampire’s, that was his most likely prediction based on what he’d heard of the plot.

“Well, she’s new and people wanna get to know her. Nothing wrong with that.” Kou said diplomatically.

“Ugh.” Kei groans, and takes a sip of his coke. Eriko had always tried to make him watch these movies, which, if he was correct, were five in number, because apparently it was no enough to have a fourth movie. No, it had two be dragged out across two volumes. So far, he had been able to avoid it. Until training camp.

“Which you’d know, if you’d had-“

“Shut the fuck up.” Kei snaps, and the mood sours for a moment.

“Right, right, I’m sorry.” Kou says, after a beat of silence, and then his hand reaches over to grasp Kei’s.

“Is that really necessary?” Kei mutters, feeling his cheeks heat up. He prays that the darkness of the room, only lit up faintly by the TV, serves as enough cover.

“Well, it’s a date, right?”

“Stop saying that all the time.”

“Date. Date. Daaate.” Kou sing-songs, grinning at Kei knowingly.

The latter glowers: “Are you in elementary school?”

Kou laughs. He still doesn’t let go of Kei’s hand.

Kei feels his heartbeat quicken, ever so slightly, nervousness manifesting in the pit of his stomach. He chalks it up to the unfamiliar situation. After all, he really doesn’t know whether the movie will provide suitable entertainment for the next one and a half hours. There is no way it has anything to do with Kou.

At least, it shouldn’t.

“If you could choose between being a vampire and an Ajin, what would you pick?” Kou asks, out of the blue.

The movie had ended just a little while ago, a pointless two hours and six minutes of a supernatural romance that Kei couldn’t care less for. It was a little past ten, and they were not finished for a long while, apparently, if the cover for the second movie, blinking traitorously in Izumi’s streaming library, was anything to go by.

“Not this again.” Kei sighs, “Do you spend all day on these unlikely scenarios?”

“It’s that not unlikely.” Kou argues, “Come on, a few years back, you didn’t even know Ajin existed! And now you’re one!”

“Of course I knew they existed. It’s part of the school curriculum.” Kei deadpans, this particular lesson still rather unsettlingly fresh in his memory.

“Which you’d know if you’d gone to school.” He adds, acidly.

“Wow, harsh.” Kou pouts, “I did go. I just…dropped out. There’s a difference. Everyone knows that.” He mumbles.

“Keep telling yourself that” is on the tip of Kei’s tongue, but he swallows it down, if only to retain the peace. And perhaps because he would feel the tiniest bit guilty further prodding at that sore spot.

But school is something he does not want to think about for a good while again. The memory brings only pain. Betrayal from his classmates, from teachers, a jealousy- one that Kou would never be able to comprehend - on missing out on education that is a given for his former classmates.. A High School degree that he will never receive, if the government has any say in it, after all the years and effort, the hours of studying and revising he has put into it. A bleak future with all paths to prestigious medical universities blocked irreversibly. His only crime had been crossing that road that day. If only I could be reborn, Kei thinks miserably, then I could get a new chance. chance. He is in dire need of a new identity. Perhaps he can later guilt Tosaki into creating one for him.

“So circling back to the topic at hand, vampires.” he says, reluctantly.

“Heck yeah.” Kou agrees, excitedly, “So?”

“There are pros and cons on both sides.” Kei shrugs, “If you were a vampire, you wouldn’t be able to age and have a career, build a reputation. You’d have to get a new identity every few years. That sounds like a hassle. And don’t get me started on the…blood lust.”

The vampires and even humans in the movie had looked hungry in a completely different way whenever that topic came up. As though sucking your body’s circulatory system dry was desirable under any circumstance. Kei shuddered at the thought.

“You mean, you wouldn’t be able to build a family, live out your life with your friends, that kinda stuff?” Kou asks.

“I was referring to the important things, but I suppose.” Kei says loftily.

“Yeah, well, you’re wrong about that. Even vampires enjoy having relationships.” Kou argued.

“Debatable.”

“Bella seems pretty happy with the Edward guy.” his teammate emphasizes, “No matter if he’s a vampire or not.”

“But it is going to be a problem in the future.” Kei argues, “Honestly, she should have just stayed with Jacob and been done with it. It’s a suitable match, why put in any extra effort? She’s just going to grow old while he stays young forever.”

“Figures you’d go with the childhood best friend.” Kou mutters, flicking crumbs of his trousers.

“What?”

But Kou – strangely, for once in his life- doesn’t seem to haven an emergent need to elaborate further on the matter.

Kei probably should have said something a long time ago.

Perhaps he should have stopped Kou from starting the blasted second movie, but “Kei, it’s not that late! And how else will you know how it ends?” (Apparently, never was not a viable option.)

So here they are, sitting through another two hours of what Kou calls an “iconic classic” and Kei under his breath refers to as trash, but not the recyclable kind.

The cinematography is stunning, he has to admit begrudgingly, and the plot, albeit ridiculous, still manages to draw him in enough for him to forego his plans of turning the movie off several times, which is quite bothersome.

Well, fine then, Kei thinks to himself, at least now if Eriko badgers him about those movies again, he can give her a detailed review of every single logical error he has discovered so far.

He is considering starting a list, just so as to have some backup proof. His little sister’s education doesn’t have to suffer any more than it already had.

“Is she really going to sit around for months and wait for him to come back?” Kei complains, grabbing a fist full of popcorn from the bowl Hirasawa had made for them, “That’s a complete waste of time.”

“I don’t know, don’t you think some people are worth waiting for?” Kou threw in, giving Kei a knowing -sort-of-look that he couldn’t place.

It was the first sentence he had spoken in a while. Apart from his rambling monologue to get Izumi to join them a while prior when she came in to check if the streaming service was working.

“Did you see these movies already, Izumi-san?” Kou had asked and Kei surely hadn’t imagined the blush pinkening her cheeks.

“Oh, those? Just…once.” she’d replied, her voice sounding a little too high-pitched for that to be true, “It all seems fine, so I should get going-“

“Ah, already? Take a seat, take a seat!” Kou says generously, gesturing to the couch, “You need a break too, right?”

And Izumi did, albeit only tentatively on the edge. “I’ll be gone in a few minutes.” she promises.

She lied. Fifteen minutes later, she is still there and Kei doesn’t have the heart to kick her out, despite this being a a date, as he not so subtly communicated to Kou via verbal cues – all of which the other successfully ignored -but then, he bitterly thought, what chance did their pseudo-trial stand against Kou’s immortal woman of his dreams?

His thoughts screech to a halt. What does he even care what Kou thinks about either of them? It was all beyond ridiculous.

“It depends on how long you’re waiting for them.” Kei says, in response to Kou’s earlier question, “What about you, Izumi-san?”

“I think some relationships are worth preserving.” Izumi replies meaningfully, but right before she can say anything else, her phone goes off, the Caller-ID flashing with a familiar name.

“It seems Tosaki-san needs my assistance.” she says, barely concealing a wistful sigh, “Have fun you two.”

“He really needs to stop working you to the bone.” Kou complains.

Kei has the decency to feel guilty about the relief that settles in him when she leaves.

The motorcycle ride looks engaging. An activity Kei himself wouldn’t mind doing, seeing as there was zero risk involved to his safety with his newfound Ajin status.

As he verbalizes all of this, Kou gives him yet another of these knowing looks.

“Well, you were always one for motorcycles, weren’t you?” he says, tone bordering on smug.

Kei frowns. “Where did you get that idea from? I’ve only ridden one so far, but that was with Kaito.”

“I know.” Kou says, and then downs the rest of his coke.

“Refill?” he asks, holding out his hand for Kei’s glass.

“Sure.” Kei says, passing it over. He eyes Nakano skeptically, for any hint as to why his demeanor kept fluctuating.

“Here you go.”

“Thanks.” Kei cautiously takes the glass from him. Their fingers brush, lingering just a second too long to be casual. Kei notices how the tips of Kou’s ears redden and uses his momentary distraction to his advantage.

“You really hate that Jacob guy, don’t you?”

Judging by the look on his teammate’s face, he hit the nail on the head.

“I, uh, well hate is a kinda strong word.” Kou hesitates, stumbling over words, “He’s just not my favourite.”

“Really?” Kei asks, raising an eyebrow. In all honesty, he isn’t very interested in either of the characters, but psychoanalyzing Kou is what gives the evening its spice.

“Why is that so surprising?” Kou pouts.

“Because he’s just the same sort of muscle-brained idiot that you are.” Kei responds, gracing Kou with an exasperated look, before turning back to the movie.

“Oh.”

His words seemed to have had a profound effect on his teammate. Whatever sort of enlightenment had reached Kou, it had visibly brightened his mood.

“He is, isn’t he.” Kou says, with a small laugh.

“I don’t know why that is so surprising.”

“Guess I never thought of it that way.”

Which was exactly why it fit so well, Kei thinks to himself. Kou looks positively thrilled with the new discovery. As much as it pains to admit him, a lot remains about his teammate that he still doesn’t understand.

“I think he might be becoming my new favourite character.” Kou says, conspiratorially, sliding closer to Kei and slinging arm around him.

As the movie goes on, Kei starts to feel more and more tired. The comfortable atmosphere and the constant stream of voices from the TV serve to lull him a sleepy state. “Wake me up when they reach Italy.” he mumbles, the exhaustion of another day spent training finally catching up with him.

Kou mumbles an affirmative, and that’s where Kei’s memory cuts off.

The next thing he knows, someone is prodding at him from the side, instructing him to wake up.

“Fine, five more minutes.” Kei says, swatting the offending hand away.

He blinks as he comes too, shielding his eyes against the sudden brightness of the room.

The movie has ended, but even if hadn’t, Kei wouldn’t have been able to see much of the screen.

Not with Tosaki blocking their view.

“It’s almost 1 am.” he informs them through clenched teeth, “Get upstairs before I sever the internet connection.”

It’s a substantial threat. Substantial enough to briefly distract Kei from the fact that he had fallen asleep right on top of Kou.

“Fuck.” Kei swears under his breath, sitting up straight.

His teammate seems less perturbed.

“You missed the ending.” is all Kou has to say for himself, with a shit-eating grin.

(“It really is pointless.” Kei whispers, later that night, as they are both lying in Kou’s bed, a hair-brained decision that Kei blames his tiredness for.

“The whole being with a vampire. She can’t be, unless someone turns her into one, but that would be the epitome of a ridiculous clishé".

“…”

“Oh God, please tell me I’m wrong.”)

2020’s Top 10 List Part One!

So here’s a list that no one asked for of the top 10 anime series I watched this year. I wanted to put this in no particular order but I figured I might as well.  I’ll also be doing my top 10 fanfics from this year and my top 10 books I read this year so stay tuned for parts 2 and 3!

10.) RWBY

Uuuggghhh I really didn’t wanna put this on here… but I really didn’t watch much this year so I had to I guess :(((

I’m really not liking this right now… if my blog wasn’t sort of popular because of my rwby oneshots I’d consider just dropping the anime all together….

(I’m seriously debating on whether to watch the new season or not)

Honestly, the only thing bringing me back is my unhealthy love for Ozpin, Torchwick, and Ironwood.

Honestly, I’d give this show about a 3 or 4/10…

I used to love it so much but I think the quality of writing is going down and the show is trying to be too many things at once that I’m just losing interest.

9.) My Hero Academia

Why is this so low you may ask? Well, cause I think my main hype coming from this is the manga.

Yes I love the show, the animation studio is freaking amazing and the quality of animation never ceases to amaze me. But I love the manga a bit more.

This will probably jump up in rating around season 5 or 6 but for right now I’ll leave it in the 9th spot :)

8.) Sirius the Jaeger

Oh my GOSH, I want a second season so bad. One of my favorite OC’s I’ve ever made was for this anime (it’s Idris Tana btw) and I actually commissioned artwork for her recently and it’s SO PRETTY.

Anyway getting off-topic, the animation of this show and again with the dark and grittiness of it is what drew me in.

Actually, my late grandma and also my great aunt tagged me in a Facebook post with the trailer when it first came out cause they saw vampires and thought I would like it and that's what got me into this show in the first place.

So thank you grandma and auntie!

But I absolutely adore the soundtrack, the mix of orchestral pieces mixed with the more electro-kinda-vibes is my life (seriously go listen to “The Beginning of the Hunting” it changed my life, as an orchestra and cello geek it made my heart so happy)

7.) Tokyo Ghoul season 1-3

Ok, I’m currently reading the manga after I’ve seen the anime and lemme tell you I wish they didn’t censor the anime so much.

I can’t even find an uncensored version anymore and it makes me so upset.

The darkness and goriness of the manga is what appealed to me in the first place (yes I get weird looks for it, no I will not change my mind)

Kaneki is my CHILD and he CANNOT do any wrong. I don’t care who you are I love him

6.) Ajin: Demi-Human

Uuuggghhh to be honest the anime is kinda meh but my love for the manga is so great I am legally obligated to put this here.

Don’t get me wrong, the animation and soundtrack for this show is phenomenal and I think they got Satou down pat.

But they did dumb down and cut out a lot of interesting scenes. Scenes like how Satou takes down some of his opponents (which I can see why... many American viewers would most likely get offended by it… you manga readers know what scene i mean)

Nagai Kei turns into a bit of a whiny character instead of the smart but exasperated teenager I know and love in the manga is the anime version of Kei going to bite off his own fingers in order to climb a wall into a military base?? Definitely not. Would manga-Kei do that? Well, he already did… so... yes..,

Nakano Kou is still kind of funny but he is so much more fascinating in the manga (his backstory breaks my heart).

5.) Bungou Stray Dogs

Another new one that I was actually recommended by my friend @bright-like-the-sun-00 :) I ended up watching it originally in dub but then went back and rewatched it in sub because I love my children so much.

Chuuya is my bean and I love my OC that I created Charlie Dickens :)

(if you guys could go read her story I’d be eternally grateful).

Anyway!

This show has a fantastic cast in both Japanese and English and the music score is one of my favorites. The characters are so wonderfully hilarious and interesting and fhajxbqbaka I love this show okay??

4.) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

I actually put this off for YEARS because my oldest step-brother kept saying I should watch it. At this point, I was refusing out of spite cause I’m petty like that. But I finally started watching and-

I have never gotten so attached to a character (cough cough Giyuu) so quickly.

I have been listening to Gurenge and Kamado Tanjiro no Uta on repeat for literal weeks now and I still grin like an idiot when listening to them. I also have a potential OC/crossover coming out soon sooooo…. stay tuned??

I also broke my sister cause I showed her a post that said national donut day and had a picture of Rengoku on it… I didn’t understand it until she explained it to me and now I cackle every time I think about it.

3.) Jujutsu Kaisen

GUYS GOJO SATORU IS MY LIFE NO QUESTIONS ASKED

He could literally murder me and I’d thank him. He is the prettiest anime character I have EVER SEEN and I love him so much.

Anyway anime. The show got my attention from the get-go. Itadori is such a fun main character and Megumi is me cause you know dogs.

I think I saw an ad for it and since I have Crunchyroll I figured why not and fell in love with it

I put it on sometimes so me and my sister just start jamming out to it and we get the stupidest looks and it is amazing

2.) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Another anime that I will rewatch over and over again until literally the end of time. Also, another series that I’ve already read/or am reading the manga.

Alphonse Eric is my cinnamon roll you can pry him from my cold dead hands.

I actually am buying the special edition hardback manga covers that are coming out and I LOVE THEM

THEY ARE SO PRETTY

Am I talking about the characters or the manga?

My answer is yes

Anyway, all of the characters in this are so wonderfully complex and have motivations and i fall in love with 99% of the characters (except for Shou Tucker, I even like Father actually)

1.)  Death Parade

This has got to be one of my top favorite anime of ALL TIME.

I rewatched it early this year and this is one of the very few anime that will get me to cry and this makes me cry every freaking time.

The music is stunning, the animation is magnificent.

For being based on an animated short film, this has such potential for a second season and such a complex storyline was packed into 12 episodes.

I will forever recommend this anime to literally anyone who is looking for something new to watch.

I’m also noticing I have a thing for white-haired male anime characters with really pretty eyes….. Kaneki… Gojo… Decim...

Another anime i didn't rewatch completely but still adore :) I heard they’re continuing it and I’m excited for the dark continent arc!

Dororo

Technically i watched this late 2019 but whatever; I do what I want. The animation was absolutely gorgeous and I loved the gritty darkness of it. Mio will forever be my favorite character; you cannot change my mind. Some parts I did find a bit boring but overall I’d rate this a solid 6/10!

The Devil is a Part-Timer!

I rewatched parts of it and not the whole thing, I also have the first two volumes of the light novels and I forget how funny it is until I actually watch it. It has me laughing every time and never fails to put a smile on my face :)

Omg YES. Those are one of my faves! It’s like you just knew. Black Hat is SO dramatic and Karl Urban is already hot, so adding in his wonderful performance makes for a villain that managed to outshine a priest - which, for me, is a big deal. I have a priest thing, like, hardcore. 

Absolutely! Yesss, lady monsters. I’m sorry if you’ve already seen everything I suggest but I’mma try my best. Also I’m going with all genres and throwing in some other media types as well because I must, apparently.  Also I’m sorry this is a novel, holy shit.

Vampire Movies: Dracula (the Bela Lugosi one. I’m not a fan of the Gary Oldman version,) all the Blade films, Lost Boys, Ultraviolet, Interview with the Vampire, Vampire in Brooklyn, Twilight (I know everyone shits on it but there’s so many babes in the films,) and Only Lovers Left Alive. Vampire Shows: Hemlock Grove (I didn’t finish it, but it has Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, and Dougray Scott in it so even if the story isn’t that strong, there’s that,) What We Do in the Shadows, and Sirius the Jaeger if you fw anime.

Werewolves (besides those that are in any of the above): Red Riding Hood, An American Werewolf in London, Teen Wolf and Teen Wolf Too, and if you’re into vidya games you can make werewolves on the Sims.

Ghosts: I’m obviously a big fan of Thirteen Ghosts, Candyman, Beetlejuice (there’s also an animated series!) Crimson Peak, The Crow, Ghost Ship, and Sleepy Hollow.

Demons/Angels: Constantine, Jennifer’s Body, Hellraiser (just 1 and 2 - after that it gets so campy,) Legion, Dogma, Bedazzled, Little Nicky (100% for Rhys Ifans,) Insidious has some interesting lil friends, and if you fw anime: Blue Exorcist, Claymore, Demon Slayer, Fire Force, and Inuyasha all have actual demons. Some others have similar variations and I’ll mention those in “other,” 

Robots/Androids/Cyborgs (I’m going with they count): AI (peep Jude Law,) Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robots (you may not wanna smash any of them, but it’s a classic,) and Archer (hella cyborgs.)

Aliens: A fair amount of the Marvel films, but my personal faves are Venom and Thor: The Dark World - the elves are pretty damn hot, the Men in Black franchise has some good ones, The Faculty, Rocky Horror Picture Show, District 9, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Chronicles of Riddick (Karl Urban is up in this bitch, too!) Star Wars obvi, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (Rihanna, always hot,) and Futurama is basically all aliens.

Clowns: It (all the films,) Clown, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and Terrifier. Also Archer has a few episodes where there’s a whole clown gang.

Other: Sinister has Bughuul, Dead Silence (if you’re into puppets. If not, it’s still a cool film,) The Brothers Grimm offers a lot, Ferngully has Hexxus, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, The Mummy (Imhotep and Anck Su’Namun are fine,) absolutely anything made by Guillermo del Toro, The Babadook can shapeshift and I wasn’t sure if he qualified as a ghost or not, American Horror Story has everything: ghosts, demons, withces, vampires, clowns, etc., Black Phillip’s human form in The Witch, Coraline (the other parents,) Pagemaster has this Jekyll and Hyde scene that’s nice and spicy, Courage the Cowardly Dog has Queen of the Black Puddle and some other great ones, the hormone monsters in Big Mouth are pretty legit. I’mma get into anime and video games now so if you’re not feeling that, I totally get it if you stop reading. Or if you did like a million words ago.

Anime: Ajin, Devilman Crybaby has all the demons, Bleach has kinda ghosts and the Hollows/Arrancar (plus fillers featuring vampires and sword spirits that are all beasty,) Swordgai isn’t that strong of a show but they basically all get possessed, D. Gray-Man has demonish creatures and some vamps, some of the Shinigami in Death Note aren’t bad, some of the evolutions in Digimon are pretty hot ngl, and there’s probably more that I can’t think of rn.

Vidya Games: In Skyrim (and TES in general) you get vampries, werewolves, elves, orcs, lizard folks, and then all the Daedric Princes. The Legend of Zelda series offers some good shit; Prince Sidon in BotW, Twilight Princess comes through with Ganon, Zant, the darknuts, and Death Sword. All the games have some good shit. Same with Final Fantasy - in 12 alone there’s the Espers and Vayne post transformation. The Jak and Daxter series, the tyrants in Resident Evil, and in The Arcana some of the card.. spirits? Idk what they’re called but they’re lowkey hot.

So uh I had been avoiding Ajin for the longest time, and just had it on a sort of “looks interesting, should check out before I die” list.

Well I finally watched both seasons over the past two days and I must say This is going to be one of my favorite series. It’s kind of like what happened with Mob Psycho. I had also been putting that off but once I started watching it, I just had to watch the rest of it. The rest is me gushing over how much I liked it, and my thoughts while watching haha. Therefore, spoilers ahead if for some reason, like me, you have not watched it yet.

It kind of felt like Zankyou no Terror with a protag who has a Mikasa attitude towards people, is smart like Armin, and goes through a Kaneki situation.

It has a theme that is familiar to many of us. A society that becomes scared of humans who aren’t entirely human. Experiments are done and a rebel group is formed.

Kei the protag, interested me at first in that he wasn’t interesting at all. There are protags out there who seem really ordinary, but there is still something extraordinary about them to begin with, like they’re a super nice person, they’re op, they have an extreme passion for something, etc. He seemed to be none of these. He had very little room to care for others, comes off as an asshole for it, but is very good at pretending to be polite. A smart guy who thinks emotions are just a hindrance. He is really goddamn smart, though, so I guess that’d be the kind of extraordinary he is. His intelligence and assholery become more apparent as the story goes on, though. 

That’s another thing. He was always that way, and simply continued to be that was after going through 10 days of torture. The only thing it seemed he gained was a higher tolerance for pain, but his personality remained. I don’t even know if I can say he became nicer, because he already had the ability to care about people. [It was interesting to see him actually cry over people dying, though. At that point, it wasn’t anything logical, he was just really upset. That was nice to see.]

Then he started having these Eren-esque problems with being unable to summon his IBM randomly. Unlike Eren though, he knew when he’d only be a burden and knows when to step back. He pulls back though, and the one time he gets super emotional, that’s when he fucks shit up. It was kind of awesome to see.

Now his friend. KAITO. Ooooomg Kaito. HE IS SUCH A FRIEND. AWARD FOR BEST FRIEND GOES TO KAITO. It’s sad that he barely shows up, but when he does, he absolutely helps. The thing that really wins me over about Kaito is that I can feel what Kei feels every time Kaito proves that he is a real goddamn friend. Every time he answers Kei like “well yeah, I’m your friend, and that’s all the reason I’ll ever need” in a way that sounds like this is the most obvious thing. If Kei doesn’t want help, he’ll back down. Even if he’s ditched, he’ll always be there for Kei. HE’S AMAZING. OMG. SOMEONE GET THIS BOI A MEDAL. 

And the villain. Old goddamn Sato. I actually really liked the foil between Sato and Kei. While they are both fighting for the most simplest of reasons, they’re the opposite. Sato’s just this old man who’s always playing games and wants real life to be just as exciting. He likes a real challenge and doesn’t wanna just sit still. Kei on the other hand is willing to go into battle just to beat this guy in order to have a normal and quiet life. Honestly, if it didn’t involve Kei, he probably wouldn’t have ever started fighting. Sato’s not dumb and is always prepared, but you find out that he’s a really simple guy. He follows rules and has an order for things, just like in games. I do like it when villains have principals but also he’s an old guy who’s really fucking quick and can kick ass. That’s also awesome.

I’m not sure there was a character in this that I ended up hating. I mean, other than the powerful old men that ended up dying. Tosaki was kind of an asshole, but he got better. I just recognized Sakurai’s voice right away though, so I knew I wouldn’t be able to hate this character haha. I appreciated the details about him and his smoking habits. It didn’t seem important to animate him fanning the smoke away when Ogura was smoking, but you find out why Tosaki had stopped smoking. Then later on when it feels like everything has gone to shit and nothing matters, he smokes again. That’s the first and only time you see him smoke, I believe. He immediately went back to mints when things were looking up. (And his nickname for mum is now Mr. Mentos) I guess his kouhai Sokabe was also kind of an asshole. He was really smug and shit when it looked like Tosaki was gonna be taken off the team. 

AND NOW I WANT A SEASON THREE. I HEARD THERE WAS A MOVIE. I WANNA GODDAMN SEE IT. I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED.

I wanna get into more anime but have no idea what to watch, recommendations?

Yeah definitely!!! (and i love giving recs so u came to the right place!) 

the thing with anime is its a massive medium so u sorta have to find ur genre and figure out what ur into and with me I like shounen (with a liking to sports anime) so most of the stuff i recommend will be the shonen jump kind and ill also recommend some stuff outside my genre just so u can get a good feel

another thing is most anime run for 25 episodes a season its really only the shonen kind that run for hundreds of episodes (think One Piece with a 1000 episodes) so i’ll start with something smaller just so u dont feel pressured to finish something that is obviously not ur taste

under read more cause im probs gonna ramble and im also gonna rec some movies cause anime movies are The Best

Full metal alchemist: brotherhood (if you’ve read any top 10 anime lists you’ve probably seen this once or twice and its on there for a good reason excellent story telling and its a little on the long side but does have a conclusion that gives u a lot closure but also hits u right in the soul if anything at least watch this)

Durarara* (super cool anime has multiple seasons, but the first is the best definitely one of the better and more complex series out there with wicked characters)

Kimi ni todoke (Haven’t seen the second season but very sweet anime with a lovable protagonist normally I don’t watch anime like this but the slow burn aspect of it all tugs on the heart strings if ur in to romance or romantic comedies in general I highly recommend this one)

Haikyuu (Hands down one of the best sports anime ever made, every character is amazing and one of the funniest anime I’ve ever seen, Has a lot of that shonen feel without being overtly dramatic its animation is crisp and it even teaches you how to play volleyball which is a plus)

Hunter x Hunter* (2011 version) (probably one of the longest I’m gonna recommend on here (100 something episodes) but it’s way 2 good to pass up. right from the start you’re put on this adventure and its definitely one ur going to enjoy again one of the best anime ive ever seen and has a conclusive ending which is good cause some anime can leave u hanging so good trust me on this one)

Beck: mongolian chop squad (a hidden gem among most anime and probably one of the only anime thats better dubbed id definitely recommend giving this one at least one watch thru as its pretty amazing for a slice of life anime)

P.S. Subbed vs dubbed - its mostly preference based any anime elitist will cry about dubbed versions but it really doesn’t matter in the long run i usually go with subbed but if funimation did the dub version i usually at least check it out
