tunic spoilers (not finished game yet) (long post ahead)

i wish i could've added more logs so far but i never got around to it.. i made a lot of progress 👍 i went so far with a stick 💀i headed toward the frog domain and stealthed around to unlock the place where u need to put the orb.. with a stick...yeah it was grueling. it was a mad dash for opening the gate though it was insane that i pulled it off... and then i realized i wasn't streaming for roger so i reenacted it with stuff i had on my desk.. i explored probably most of the atoll with a stick 😭

also i was worried whether or not spending the items at the altars would upgrade or sell.. initially i assumed it was the first but then i was like what if it was the second.. i finally got around to upgrading oh my god. also equipping cards. also estus flasks. i went through these two areas with a stick and no upgrades of any kind it was insane but now i can kill anything (not true) and i went mad with power (semi true).

since i forgot where the orb was i headed back to the first area and lo and behold made some actual progress -> east garden -> beneath the well -> dark tomb.. now i'm trying to figure out how to advance in the west garden so... also i need to use more bombs so bad so i can figure out what the prize is.

i don't have much thoughts or speculation for the story.. here are some bits and pieces. i went in only knowing that it was wayneradio's game of the year and that it's a game you have to go in blind and he was really insistent (and defensive) when someone said the game was awful or something that they didn't "play enough".. so i went in expecting this to be a time of subversion of le genre and/or something that would blow my mind i wanna knowww

also i watched a trailer of tunic in some indies game list video a little while ago and the only thing i remember was this

so 👍 the manual is very cute and how it has pen marks and stuff and that you can lower it to see the crt(?) tv that you're playing the game on.. i think that probably would have some relation to the Big Thing this game will do.. i'm glad the game has an invincible mode as an option shout-out to game accessibility (shout-out to celeste and oneshot).. hollow knight should have that. tbh.

anyways seeing the tricolor symbol and obvious homage? reference? inspiration? to loz games although i've only botw but i'm sure it's doing something there. the symbol is in the load up too so i wonder.. all the mechanical bits of the world (autobolts.. that sometimes turn into tuning forks? they die with a mechanically musical sound.. the purple energy coursing through the network around the world and the leaky bit that had a similar autobolt death sound to them that made my vision purple.. the broken down triple eyed robots and the towers with the tricolor symbols) give me the impression of a computer or tv so i wonder if anything will happen to the crt or person playing. maybe they are parts of a circuit or motherboard (thinking of it since yesterday i played intense spot the difference with my friend and one of them was a stupid circuit board). i kinda expect to go off the rails at some point so i wonder if there'll be anything dramatic as a forced changed perspective from the game to the person playing the game. there's also the "hero" who died and looks awfully similar to me.. is that the fox ptorag? does that fate exist for them? are the awesome giant skull shopkeepers me from past lives (fox shaped)? is the shopkeeper related to the fox deity seeing as they are both foxes and have blue eyes? is the fox deity actually evil? is the hero actually evil? are the rudelings reincarnations of the fox's past lives? is "the wall" from which the fairies are from trying to stop me from changing a fate or hacking the world? the map has an image on a conjuror (an enemy?) who hold candles, and that "candles can be put out". that could be referring to just them, perhaps because they attack with they candles (i haven't met one i think). or do they also mean the candles on the map that mark the hero's grave/altar.. i really wanna put them out but i don't know how yet. i wonder if this game has multiple endings, though i don't get that impression..yet..

it's very interesting that you have to decipher the manual at least visually, if not textually. forces the player to rely on previous rpg and video gaming experience. perhaps its the devs experience on playing games and reading manuals they don't understand the language they are in. i really wonder if you can decipher the text, but i don't know how to go about it so i gave up. also they keep telling me to use items but i don't want toooo idk if they replenish.

the game is very fun so far, especially since i got the ball rolling and don't find myself dying as much.. still am dying though and i've had some scares and anguish my last session (last night). tried and finally got past the two birds (one eating slorm) in the atoll by killing them, but then the little squirming white big eyed thing that i remembered exploded before was following me very slowly so i looped around a bit near the birds before heading off to advance in hopes of losing it but that thing followed me so far and i went up the spiral tower trying to keep in mind not to get cornered by the freak to deal with the bird but had little magic points and health left and couldn't kill and the FREAK advanced up the stairs and cornered on the part sticking out i was screaming (never actually too loud bc i play late at night..but i do) thankfully the bird killed me instead of the little freak. i got past then on little health and ran into the 5 fairies and survived but got too scared to continue bc 1) low health 2) there was a purple moved like a spidery THING on a nearby island that immediately ran when i got close and i got so scared that it was going to either 1) run around and KILL me or 2) it was a planned event/sighting that wouldn't happen should i respawn monsters. i think if it's not the second it's probably the first or similar since everything loves killing me. i also got freaked out by the tentacles under the well.

i'm looking forward to playing more.. i think i'm doing a good job of inspecting and looking around as i tend to try to do when i play games.. be very thorough is my aim of the game. the cards and knowing whether or not the items with numbers are consumables (likely) is the most tempted i've been to look up a little info.. but i must resist so i can say i played the game without a guide.

i personally think character permadeath is one of the most interesting things that can happen in a dnd narrative, and the fact it was something actively chosen to be done by sam for such an insanely clutch move. i will never get over this. i am so excited for what comes next.

Okay, a few years back I made this graphic to explain the Great Cycle. Now that I've mulled over DD2 for a few days, I'm updating it. Some of the same assumptions as before remain: The Dragonforged fought the dragon, his weapon broke, he tried punching it (lmao), but he did survive without killing the dragon, possibly there was a second Bargain offered in the face of his determination. So you don't have to kill your dragon to survive it. Also still assuming that different classes become different types of drakes because I just like that detail, even though we see nothing to confirm it in DD2 (except maybe for the wyrms in the post-game, I hope that's what those are, just a bit redesigned).

But this time, I'm making some NEW assumptions: A Great Dragon can be manifested directly by the Seneschal's will (I'm guessing this is why our DD2 dragon doesn't have a name, I suspect this dragon was created after Rothais defeated his - he didn't become a dragon OR Seneschal so it had to come from somewhere). The challenge a Seneschal poses to the Arisen can be anything; Savan gave us the opening of the Everfall and unleashed a ton of powerful monsters upon the world; but Pathfinder gave us what the world would look like without a Seneschal to oversee things. My assumption is that the Colossal Dragon that appears out of that final red pillar of light IS the Pathfinder (possibly using his will to force order back upon the world) and when we kill it, our Arisen becomes Seneschal (because Pathfinder says he won't be there to see the new world that's forming). So the challenge can be anything, not just the Everfall. I'm curious what happens to our pawn after that fight, though. And it's a much better Seneschal fight than the one against Savan, sorry Savan.

I'm also assuming that (given we see the Pathfinder rewind time and rewrite the world) the Seneschal can simply will the world into a state of being that suits them. This includes wiping memories of events. Though I like to imagine that our Arisen-turned-Seneschal didn't wipe memories of themselves or of the apocalypse-world. There was an entire plotline going through this game with Rothais and Phaesus where mortals are trying to get rid of the Seneschal and so it makes sense that they need to remember what would happen without the Seneschal's presence.

Anyway, thanks. I'll probably have more thoughts later, but this is the part that gets me most. I like to know how things work so I wanted to sort the Cycle out.

You know Twitter was talking about something, namely that with this update we’re could be getting yet another Legendary group

I’ve been told that they aren’t, and these are just the Epics to come with the update, but that’s not the point I’m making

The point is that I’m noticing just how many new Legendary/premium tier groups there have been. Just in 2024 alone, we got the Novas in Ovenbreak, the Beasts in Kingdom, and then the Archons/First Cream’s group in Witch’s Castle. That’s 3 groups and we’re not even halfway through the year

On some level it feels like they keep trying to give us new big things to be excited about, while not delivering on their already made promises, such as bringing in the Ovenbreak Legendaries, which they teased in late 2022 and we’ve only gotten one new one so far (not counting Pitaya)

It’s like me coming up with a new idea every couple of days and abandoning previous ideas I said I was going to work on, especially with AUs. Except I’m not a company with millions of players, I’m one scatterbrained, ADHD riddled person. So following my example is a very bad idea

I mean maybe let some new Legendaries just be one offs, like Xylitol Nova and just let it be one space themed update, or maybe First Cream (though I don’t know enough about her yet to say). The Beasts can stay, they work as a group since they’re basically evil Ancients/the original holder of the Soul Jams, though maybe they should have come after the White Lily chapter, and have Beast Yeast come after her story, after all the Ancients are recruited, instead of jamming in new hooks and shuffling the actual focus to the background

Like at this point I’m getting concerned about this company, since these releases feel like short term getting your money for promise of future updates while neglecting the hooks already set up (like the Dragons or Dark Enchantress (especially Dark Enchantress)), and it’s not gonna go well in the long run. Granted I’m not knowledgeable in how businesses work so what do I know?

I mean personally I just want closure to arcs that have been set up, as well as possibly seeing my old favorites again, I don’t really care that much about the company itself, I don’t even pay money. It’s just that they make the stories that I like and want to see more of

#I am excited for this new update #I just have thoughts about how Devsis has been operating recently #and tbh I wonder if part of it has to do with all the new spin-offs and projects #because I feel like at some point this is gonna be a problem #maintaining 2 games seems manageable enough #but now there’s a 3rd one with a 4th on the way #not to mention Brixity or the other Cookie Run spin off things (though granted those are other media)#or how they were going to make a 5th game with Ovensmash but have to shelve it bc there’s no one to work on it #like it feels like maybe the company is spreading itself out too far too fast #and in turn the current games are suffering #but again I don’t know business so I don’t know if this is the case #but still #cookie run #cookie run kingdom #cookie run ovenbreak #cookie run witch’s castle #legendary cookies

Some attempts at a design for Selena :3. The second image is inspired by the wedding in Haunted Castle, but I changed Simon’s outfit cause idk I just can’t picture him being comfortable in a suit.

The last two of these are way more headcanon-y lol. They’re under a cut mostly in case my headcanons and story ideas change d(^^ ). One of them was inspired by a Kikuo song I was listening to while drawing lol, the song “Let’s Go to Heaven”.

one of my major problems with my job is that I get sososo tired of trying to figure out how to interact with people in a way that is honest, productive, but also doesn't bruise anyone's egos, and I can feel myself getting worse at it as time goes on and it's genuinely what drains me and stresses me out the most by far

Y'ALL IF YOU ARE GENUINELY CURIOUS ABOUT BG3 AND THE GAMEPLAY MECHANICS OF IT ALL, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING NEIL NEWBON'S (astarion's voice actor) STREAMS OF HIM PLAYING IT!!!

they're all on youtube and then he does livestreams still. he plays with his friend tom deville, and they are up to act 2, i believe? so they stream their gameplay in real time. he says a ton of things in astarion's voice at random, is romancing astarion so you'll see the cut scenes, and also he's experiencing the game properly for the first time just as you would be!

there's also a ton of other people who post gameplays but if you can't afford the game but are super super invested or curious, watching those is a wonderful way to experience the game <3

#it's a fun community #tom and neil are fucking hilarious in their gameplay too #they are doing normal tavs so it works #astarion is ALWAYS in the group #the only rules for their gameplay has been astarion is always there literally #you might miss out on some other companion's stories but from what i've caught up to they're definitely learning more about other companion #tom just switches them out often #also. he brings on the other voice actors. and nerds out over the bts of the game #it's wonderful and he's far more well spoken than i am <3 #ghost plays bg3 #i've hit my daily limit of how much the dash will tolerate me to talk about my silly lil game today sorry loves

Playing sonic unleashed the way god intended (emulated on a macbook)

#/j obviously #if you're wondering how it runs: it's so weirdly inconsistent #i do have a copy of the game for the ps3 but it runs so badly #it's constantly eating my button inputs which is bad when half the game is a beat em up combo masher #(well and also it's my dad's ps3 and i'm usually not in town to borrow it. so i was interested in trying to emulate it)#meanwhile on my computer #the highs are better than the ps3 but the lows are way worse lmao #i'd go as far as to say like 70% of the game runs smoother than it does on the actual console #but there are some parts it just doesn't know how to handle. too many guys on screen and the fps tanks #tbf to the rpcs3 guys they've done a crazy amount of improvement on this emulator!#there is this one part in rooftop run night that i used to get TWO fps in. it now hovers around 15-20fps #which obviously is still pushing the definition of 'playable.' but i am doing this for fun and blasphemy so its fine #sorry lmao getting games to run on apple silicon hardware that aren't supposed to is a special interest of mine #sega won't remaster this game themselves because they hate money i guess 🙄#spooky talks.txt #2am musings of a madman

Anyways I'm back from The Labyrinth and Philadelphia (may or may not qualify as a labyrinth itself)

#POGGERS I'M SO EXCITED #out of all the jedi knight etc. games dark forces was probably my second favourite after jedi outcast!! i really loved it so much #nightdive did so well with the system shock remaster i really cant wait to see what they're gonna do with dark forces!!#the kyle katarn enjoyers are WINNING #i wonder how they're gonna handle the cutscenes #even if they dont go as far as they did with system shock i am still so stoked
