I think what really gets to me with the finale is that Merlin was so close to getting Arthur to the lake. Yet, there was no plan beyond that. It's like even if they did get there, who knows if anything would have happened.

The idea that there was still more tragedy awaiting even if they made it, that yeah despite all of Merlin’s magic, he couldn't save Arthur's life.

It was always the possibility of the Sidhe, but there was no guarantee. It was all hope from the start, endless hope that failed them in the end.

Because well, it was always supposed to happen like this anyway... Arthur was meant to die so he could rise again, there was no alternative

okay not to waste energy being mad about the minecraft movie of all things but I am actually kind of heartbroken by how cynical it feels.

for example, making the creatures that inhabit the world offputting is so indicative of the underlying attitude the film seems to be taking to me. how many millions of minecraft animals, despite being pixels and code, have been genuinely loved by players around the world?

minecraft, despite everything it’s associated with these days, is incredibly earnest in a way that I feel few properties are these days… and genuinely one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. in its surprisingly melancholic moments in a solo survival world. in the laughs it’s given those far apart from beloved friends, allowing them to be roommates in a beautiful forest cottage or a volcanic fortress or a treehouse palace they’ve built together when thousands of miles apart. in the things people working alone and together have made of it- libraries of banned books made accessible through the medium of the game, scale models of worlds real and fictional, redstone machines with intricate circuitry and incredible intelligence and diligence behind them, in the friendships forged in the pursuit of these creations.

minecraft is collaborative and creative and contemplative in a way few games can be. minecraft, to those who have ‘beaten,’ it, says: everything you need is within you, the darkness you fight is within you, the light you seek is within you, you are not alone, not separate from every other thing, you are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code.

minecraft, when so many games are about escaping from yourself, is about connection with your self, your creativity, the plants and earth and animals and structures around you, the people around you.

for it to be, in this context, a self-referential, debasing cash grab, is not a surprise to me but does feel like a disservice to what the heart of this game is, and symptomatic of a wider trend in a storytelling climate increasingly dominated by spin-offs and reboots and tie-ins and remakes. the writers could have had the courage not to break the fourth wall, not to point and laugh and decry the silly memeable ‘get a load of this guy,’ block game, (and by extension ridicule themselves,) but I understand. it’s the same instinct to make the self-effacing joke before you can be laughed at by others for showing your honest self, to cringe from the vulnerability earnesty demands. that’s fine. personally- and I’m probably not alone- I just wish it wasn’t this game.

What’s your opinion on Julian and Kit’s relationship?!

I feel like I see a lot of people head canon or think they had a sibling like relationship but IMO I don’t think Jules really cared for Kit/didn’t mind him. Like not a hate or a dislike but just as someone who’s there

as for kit/julian relationship, i share the same thoughts as u! i don't think julian hates him or anything extreme like that, but i definitely agree that (especially in tda) he's kinda indifferent to him. tbh when u are out there raising 4 kids, u really don't stop to think about another strange kid entering the household. baby had a lot on his plate, so we gotta give him the benefit of the doubt here :')

but i think julian does like kit despite their few interactions. like during the car scene in lm when kit tells julian that ty isn't weird, he's just autistic, i think julian starts to respect him in that moment. he sees that kit won't judge his brother. and honestly, i think he probably felt more at ease when he saw kit, ty and livvy hanging out because of it. i think julian sees how happy the kiddos are with kit around (especially the twins). i bet julian's thoughts are just "he's a good kid" (<- because he's a dad).

i think their relationship is kinda different in sobh. like the scene where kit assumes that jules doesn't want to see him bc he's "on ty's side" broke me in ways u cannot imagine. atp, i think julian knows that something (whatever it may be) went on between kitty and he realises that both of them had something special together, that ty was happier with kit around. i hc that in the back of his mind he's like "we gotta help fix this, i can see that kit is suffering just as much as ty is." i think he genuinely does want kit to be happy :(

so in general, i think they respect each other. like kit wants to do good, to show julian that he isn't a threat to the blackthorns, that he can be trusted. he knows that julian is super protective so he wants julian to trust him and i think he does. honestly, i think julian acknowledges and appreciates kit efforts and sees how easily he fits into the blackthorn's everyday lives. so, they might not interact much, but i think they still truly care about each other <3

honestly though, i think twp will be the series where we see kit and julian's relationship shift more when julian realizes that his brother is in love with our little blondie. and it will be crazy <3

Story under cut

Ever since your first encounter with Julian you’ve noticed a few things about him. Primarily his clothing, for instance, they never seemed… clean. Sure, they looked like they had a quick wash but never fully cleaned. You've deduced this down from a stain that only ever seemed to fade. Along with the various creases that never seemed to ever be fully straightened out. You had learned about how he had only recently returned back to Vesuvia, only then to have to run around and try to prove his innocence with you, then had to fight the Devil himself. Life seemed to have swept you both up. Neither one of you fully got the chance to unwind and recharge from the series of events that had unfolded. However, things were different. Finally, life was starting to return back to normal. 

Hence why you were thinking about his clothing. He still hadn’t stopped, hadn’t slowed down. He always seemed to be geared up and ready to go. Constantly running circles around you. He had started up his clinic and was constantly helping other people but never himself. So that's when you decided to give him something that would have to slow him down. Get him out of his mind for one second to stop and breathe. 

Over time you’ve searched and scrounge around in local shops for the perfect articles of clothing that screamed out his name. Carefully you collected a whole wardrobe full. Precariously you set up the scene and just in time as you hear the front door open with a groan. You hear a familiar voice call out to you. 

“Darling I’m home!” a cheerful Julian chimed out as you entered the room. He had his back turned to you as he hung up his coat on the hanger next to the door, as he turned around you watched his smile only grow upon seeing you standing before him. He held out his arms as you walk forth and land into his arms. A soft smile growing on your face. 

In a soft tone you say softly, “Welcome home, love. Was work tough?”

Julian smiled and shook his head, “unfortunately it was a quiet day at the clinic.”

You look up to him with a puzzled look, “That sounds like a better day than the other chaotic ones.”

He chuckled the vibrations gently bouncing you before he said cheerfully, “You know me, I like being on my toes. Standing still was never my greatest strength.” 

You roll your eyes before looking up at him, “Well surely you can spare a few moments and come see the surprise i've been working so painstakingly hard to put together?” 

His smile shifted into his usual smirk, one that never ceased to cause your own smile to grow. He truly was an infectious person to love. 

“Lead the way.” He said calmly, despite the excitement that laced his words through the undertone. 

You gently take his hand in yours and lead him through the small home. You hear a light chuckle emit from him as you head towards the bedroom. You silently laughed a little, knowing exactly what he was thinking. However, you had opposite plans. You stop suddenly, causing him to almost bump into you. You release his hand, spinning on your heel to face him before pointing a finger at him and in a commanding voice, you say. 

“Close your eyes” 

His eyes gleam mischievously before he obeys, covering his eyes with his pale, slender hands. Quickly, you go to the wardrobe and pull open the large doors on the cabinet. Turning back around, you released him from his command, and his eyes grew wide as they landed on the various clothes neatly hung up. He looks back to you as he says with his heartwarming smile,

“What's with all these new clothes darling?”

“They’re for you. Don’t think I haven’t noticed how little your wardrobe is or how dirty it is. Besides you work hard, constantly running around. I thought you deserved to be spoiled. Plus now you’ll have to slow down and actually piece yourself together.” 

He laughed before gently pulling you back into his arms pressing a kiss to your forehead. 

“You treat me too well, I truly am lucky to have someone so caring and sweet as you.” 

You look up at him with a love filled smile. Both of you stood there for a while, the world seemingly making space for just you two. However, the moment was broken, as all good things had to come to an end. Instead it was replaced with a heartwarming scene as you watch him go through the clothing. He carefully pieced together different outfits and laughed at a few of your choices, but never seemed to turn any of them down. 

The next morning, you awoke to an empty bed, which wasn’t new. Julian was usually up before you. Climbing out of bed, you stop after hearing a noise. Quickly, you turn around only to find your tall lover carefully slipping on one of his new shirts and buttoning it up. He brushed out the fabric, turning around as he stopped seeing that you were up and smiled brightly. That day, that shirt became your favorite.

Julian died shagging a woman who appears to be close to Alison in age. The secretary he flirted with in The Ghost of Christmas also looks to be about the same age. He both lusted after Mike's sister, who is roughly the same age as Alison, and treated her as a surrogate wife. He has been sexual about/towards women younger than Alison on multiple occasions. Almost all of his pictures of Samantha Fox? They're from when she was considerably younger than Alison (she was only 27 when Julian died, and she was 17 when she first became a topless model). Women of around Alison's age and younger are demonstrably what Julian is primarily attracted to. All this to say, Julian seeing Alison as a surrogate daughter is not only not supported by canon, but people spreading the idea in the notes of my posts as though it was canon makes me very uncomfortable. It's weird. I don't like it. Please stop it.

I know we passed around that post of the simulation novelization with Sisko recognizing Julian's hesitation to leave Garak as what he felt for Jennifer, but did they ever talk about it? I don't think Julian ever told Garak honestly- how could you tell someone that, someone you aren't supposed to trust, someone you know can take things and throw them back in your face- but did Sisko ever talk about that moment of self recognition?
