in book 2 she’s investigating a strange illness centred on a magic school for boys

and in book 3 she’s attending a global magician conference held in a creepy castle - when someone’s murdered, and they’re locked in until she figures out the culprit

Zimbabwean magic, friendship, disabled characters, no romance (so far)

Huchu #The Library of the Dead #really enjoy this series!#the worldbuilding is very interesting - kinda combo climate-ravaged future but also in some aspects societally it feels kinda 1800s #(especially with the vibe of the mystery/paranormal elements)#I saw that the author (who is from Zimbabwe) describe it as ‘if edinburgh was a third world city’ which actually makes a lot of sense #Also I have to make the wendell & wild x lockwood & co comp again #I felt like book 2 was a little all over the place? I slightly lost track of the other-realms stuff lol #I really loved book 3 though - definitely more direct plot-wise #I like how it explores her journey through learning that the magic society is just as corrupt and shitty as anything else and maybe she #doesn't want it after all. as well as how the stress of everything is getting to her is causing panic attacks #love the scottish accent in the audiobooks!#so many interesting different supernatural elements. yay for sidhe in book 3 (tho only briefly)#hold on. do the book covers reflect the colour of her locs. (ok not quite for book one which is usually blue but there is a green variant)#ok I did say no romance but also I can’t tell if I’m just imagining Something between ropa & priya bc in book 3……they had some moments.#I mean I enjoy them as platonic moments also but just noting here in case it DOES turn out to be intentional and something that happen??#also fair warning the promo for book four seems to spoil somehting that's not even in the blurb??#aroaessidhe 2024 reads

my first day at my new store is tomorrow everyone wish me luck

#i’m glad it’s not like. a Totally New Job just a different location #so like i already know how to do the actual work itself #i just have to learn the store layout + backrooms; the managers; where the timeclock and everything are; the passcodes; etc #so really it’s just gonna be a funky transition phase to get used to doing the same work in a different place with potentially different #expectations or rules or work culture in general #it’s rough that it’s gonna be a full 8 hr shift tho like that’s a struggle. but. it’ll be fine #esp since i’m probably either gonna be pushing out halloween product (yay!) or cashiering (extremely familiar to me!)#bc w halloween it’ll be fun bc it’s cool new product that i enjoy looking at #and it’ll help me more with learning the store layout (the only way to learn is exposure and practice after all)#but it’ll maybe be stressful if ppl are asking me for assistance #but that’s inevitable anyway yknow #but with cashiering it’s like. okay that’s smth i am super good at and don’t have to learn anything new for #my only worry is that if it gets slow they might try to get me to help guest service which i do NOT want to be trained in #bc i do NOT want to be given shifts in guest service or expected to help cover them regularly!#bc guest service sucks 🫶#but i think i could weasel my way out of that easily enough. it’s not really a concern

mlm, sapphic, trans, nonbinary, demi, bi ace, and aromantic characters, some stories focusing on romance but many on familial relationships and siblings

#Everything Under the Moon #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #aromantic books #queer books #A really nice anthology of queer fairytales! definitely a mix of all sorts of stories.#Some were a bit forgettable (I mean I’m just not a short story person) but I really enjoyed others! I #I picked this up specifically because I heard there was an aromantic story (which I didn’t know much else about) and yeah it hit hard actua #it’s about being okay with loneliness and also centred around artists….so. it did make me cry a bit….#I liked that a lot of them focused on platonic r/ships - most on sibling actually? I appreciate that there were a couple sapphic aces too #I will say while the illustrations are really high quality (I especially liked the naturey ones) I found a lot of them depicted the chars #as very.....disnefied? idk. thin and generic. lacking 'imperfect' features like freckles even #(when they’re described as having them) With a couple exceptions for sure - but a lot of them were a bit samey #I would have loved some authors notes or a list of the stories because I didn’t recognise which all were inspired by #(though they’re on the endpapers; just not specified which) - I did find this in a GR review tho

I post all this happy shit about him bc we have good times but in reality I’m done. I’m so fucking done. He does nothing but drain me 24/7. I’m constantly the fucking problem. He never owns up to his faults, he’ll swear me out, blame me for everything and act like everything’s fine the next day. I try to find solutions and he ignores me. I need time away to think after a problem? He’s pissed. But when he needs time he gets it. I love him with my entire heart but I’m so drained.
