To me there’s like a line between the Bad Kids who were always themselves extremely authentically and that fucked them up socially (Riz, Adaine, Gorgug) and the Bad Kids who spent a good portion of their lives playing a part and that fucked them up mentally (Fabian, Kristen, Fig)
#that’s why the latter three blended in so well to the popular kid landscape: they’re so used to playing a part#meanwhile riz adaine and gorgug are very unused to being popular and it’s a very big change for them#gorgug to an extent also has to deal with repressing his rage so he does get it a bit#however he doesn’t have to deal with his entire identity and personality for others like the other three#what fucks me up is that fabian and fig are still to some extent playing a part even if it’s changed over the years#a good part of Kristen’s arc is her being authentically herself and the consequences that brought#so she kinda gets that nice reprieve that I feel like the other two don’t get as much#and yeah the two of them have the bad kids and fig has ayda and they can drop the act around them#but they do still have to play a part#(and if you’ll allow me to be insane over fabian for a minute) the fact that outside of the party fabian doesn’t really have anyone he feels#comfortable being himself around is one of the tragedies of his character considering he’s still trying to be perfect for everyone else#even fig is learning to be her authentic self with people outside of her friends and gf and fabian just doesn’t get that#anyways. rant over. just will always be thinking about Them#autism (mads) speaks#fantasy high#the bad kids#fabian aramais seacaster#riz gukgak#adaine abernant#gorgug thistlespring#kristen applebees#fig faeth#d20 fantasy high#dimension 20 fantasy high

hold my hand and say it with me: jackie taylor is not a femme
#why are people on tiktok so convinced she is it actually drives me crazy#feminity is not an authentic expression of identity for her… and it’s definitely not an expression of QUEER identity#when jackie gets away from the pressures of society she immediately starts dressing extremely masculinely for the subculture she’s a part of#like. she’s wearing MEN’s clothing. she’s dressing preppy but she’s dressing masculinely#like she’s taking the chance of being away from home to express herself the way she wants to#and the way she wants to express herself is through masculinity#like. what about that makes you think she’s FEMME.#i guess this is really nitpicky but it’s something that genuinely pisses me off bad#because it’s such a fundamental misunderstanding of jackie’s character and of queer gender expression#and of the gender presentations of people who belonged to certain subcultures in the 90s#a really similar thing happens with the masculinization of nat#who is a very feminine character by the standards of her time period and subculture#she doesn’t dress like a masc lesbian. she dresses like a girl who belongs to an alternative subculture in 1996#this says SO MUCH to me about how people perceive masculinity and femininity in relation to the perception of strength and capability#in relation to their perception of the strength and capability of people and characters#like….. these sort of perceptions and assumptions are misogynistic actually 😭 and i never see anyone talk about it#anyway. whatever. idk how many people are gonna agree with me on this but i wanted to say it anyway#jackie’s not fem. and nat’s not masc#jackie taylor#yellowjackets#yj#discourse

the way they both sidled up to each other. the way they kissed under the moonlight. the way they set and respected each other's boundaries. the hand holding, the thumb war, the gentle smile, the "you won." this is the queer representation i needed. queer people being unapologetically queer in all the gentle, sweet ways we know.

"born to live"
darling, you were never born to die...you were born to live. you were born to feel the air splurge through your lungs, to feel the sunlight warming your back, to hear the birds sing early in the morning. may these little joys coat your existence akin to a warm blanket. may they keep your heart beating. never lose the childlike wonder locked in your core, too beautiful a thing it is to let go of.

2025 reads / storygraph
Feast While You Can
horror/romance
follows a lesbian whose family has lived their small valley town for generations, and tell family stories of a demonic thing lurking in a pit in the caves
after a late night party telling stories in the caves, the thing awakens and connects itself to her, controlling, provoking, and feeding off her memories
the touch of her brother’s ex - who she has feelings for, and is back in town - is the only thing that repels it, but as they grow closer, the thing becomes more powerful, and they struggle to stop it from feasting on her entirely

#Feast While You Can#aroaessidhe 2025 reads#ooooh I loved this a lot#demonic creature in your head….hot butchfemme lesbians….#it’s definitely heavier on the romance and lesbian identity side of things than about demon stuff -#which is usually the opposite of what I prefer but. well it worked for me here.#The demon stuff is vague and without much lore or explanation but the ambiguity makes it more weirdscary imo#I loved the exploration of queer & specifically lesbian identity in a small conservative town and the good sibling relationship#It feels like a book that is authentically telling the story it wants to#rather than trying to fit within demon / small town /queer romance tropes/structures/marketing (or maybe it’s just that it’s. not super ame#Also!!!! demon voice effects in the audiobook#(it’s not ENTIRELY bodysharing guyinyourhead trope because it does flit around various people but like. pretty close)#lesbian books

✧・゜: how i'm learning to trust my creative intuition :・゜✧:・゜✧

hey lovelies! ✨
i've been thinking a lot about creative intuition lately, that quiet inner voice that nudges you toward certain ideas or projects. for the longest time, i was absolutely terrible at listening to it. i'd get these little sparks of inspiration and immediately talk myself out of them. "that's been done before" or "you don't have the skills for that" or my personal favorite: "who do you think you are?"
sound familiar? thought so.
the thing is, i've slowly been learning that my intuition actually knows what it's talking about. those random ideas that pop into my head at 2am or while i'm in the shower? they're not random at all, they're my creative compass trying to guide me toward what truly lights me up.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ recognizing intuition vs. fear ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
the first big challenge was learning to tell the difference between my intuition and my fear. they can sound weirdly similar sometimes!
my intuition tends to feel like excitement mixed with certainty, like "yes! this!" even when it makes no logical sense. it feels light and expansive, like opening a window in a stuffy room.
fear, on the other hand, feels heavy and contracted. it comes with a lot of "shoulds" and worrying about what other people will think. it's the voice that compares my chapter 1 to someone else's chapter 20.
i started keeping track of when these different voices would speak up, and slowly got better at recognizing which was which.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ creating space to listen ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
intuition doesn't shout. it whispers. and in our noisy, constantly-connected world, those whispers can get completely drowned out.
i realized i needed to create actual space to hear myself think. for me, that looks like:
morning pages: three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing before looking at my phone
solo walks without podcasts or music (just me and my thoughts)
intentional boredom: staring out windows, lying on the floor, letting my mind wander
reducing input before trying to create output (no scrolling before creative sessions)
it's amazing what starts to bubble up when you're not constantly drowning it out with other people's voices and ideas.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ the "stupid idea" notebook ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
one of the most helpful tools has been my "stupid idea" notebook, a judgment-free zone where i write down every creative impulse, no matter how ridiculous it seems.
the name is intentionally silly to remind myself not to take it all so seriously. some ideas truly are stupid, and that's perfectly fine! but some turn out to be the beginnings of something meaningful.
the rule is simple: write it all down, evaluate later. this creates a safe space for intuition to speak without immediately being shut down by my inner critic.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ small intuition experiments ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
trusting your intuition is like building a muscle, you start small and work your way up.
i began with low-stakes creative decisions: which color to use in a drawing, which topic to write about in my journal, which route to take on my walk. when something felt intuitively "right," i'd go with it, even if i couldn't explain why.
gradually, i started trusting my intuition with bigger choices: which project to pursue, which opportunities to say yes to, which creative direction to explore.
with each small win, my confidence in my inner guidance grew stronger.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ embracing the "wrong" turns ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
here's the thing about intuition: sometimes it leads you down paths that seem to go nowhere. i've followed creative impulses that resulted in projects i never finished or ideas that didn't work out.
but i'm learning that these aren't failures, they're necessary detours. every "wrong" turn teaches me something i needed to learn or leads me to connections i wouldn't have made otherwise.
intuition isn't finding the most direct path; it's finding YOUR path, with all its twists and surprises.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ letting go of external validation ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
perhaps the hardest part of trusting my creative intuition has been detaching from external validation. when you follow your intuition, you might create things that don't immediately resonate with others or fit neatly into what's trending.
i'm still working on this one, honestly. but i've noticed that my most intuitive creations... the ones that felt most aligned with my inner voice, are ultimately the ones people connect with most deeply, even if the audience is smaller.
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ a gentle practice ・:࿔ೃ.⋆
trusting your creative intuition isn't a destination, it's an ongoing practice. some days i'm better at it than others. sometimes fear still wins. but each time i choose to listen to that quiet inner knowing, it gets a little louder, a little clearer.
if you're struggling to trust your own creative voice, start small. create tiny spaces of silence. write down the whispers. follow the sparks of excitement. and be patient with yourself when you forget.
xoxo, mindy 🤍

Your beats make me sick
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan wangji#wei wuxian#a-yuan#wen qing#wen ning#This scene raised several implications that range from retroactively hilarious -#-to confrontationally horrifying.#First with the hilarious bit; Hey! We've seen this scene before!#In fact - this particular duet is so similar to the duet LWJ and WWX perform to calm the mystery arm in Cloud Recess-#-That I am honestly flabbergasted WWX *didn't* realize LWJ would catch on his real identity.#Sure there are a lot of ways you could justify it. But also...even if he didn't play Wangxian.mp3...he would have been found out eventually#"I have to get away from LWJ by annoying him via flirting!' uhhh like you pretty much did throughout most of your late teens?#I think there is something a bit charming about WWX if he's truly that bad of an actor. Go on king. Live your authentic truth.#For the horrifying implications...I didn't depict it here but it's not *just* Wen Ning who breaks out and goes into a frenzy.#It is also the other corpses that are around the burial grounds.#You know; the ones that even he admits he has no idea how many there are!#It puts a lot more weight on 'how much longer do you really think you can do this?'#The village in the burial grounds was *always* under a time limit. It was a matter of when and how it would be destroyed.#And I do believe that firmly. As depressing and pessimistic as it is; The Wen Remnants were never meant to survive.

Oh God I was really hoping the backstory that was leaked for Billy was fake... just heard about the new episode and it turns out it wasn't. why would they choose this over adoption or reincarnation-
It's bad! I really feel like the M C U goes out of its way to interpret these characters in bad faith and come up with the worst possible versions of their stories. I've said this before, but everything about Wanda's origins and the nature of her power seems designed to make her an objectively worse person who is more directly responsible for causing harm than her comics counterpart, but is also weirdly set on punishing her for existing and having trauma. She's simultaneously more doomed by the narrative, and infinitely less deserving of redemption.
With Billy, they took a situation that, while complex and, at times, difficult to parse, is ultimately miraculous and joyful, and they made it just.... incredibly grim. There is no real distinction between Billy Maximoff and Billy Kaplan in the comics-- they're the same person, given a second chance at life and the great fortune to reconnect with his original family, in a way that doesn't invalidate or erase the second. And, again, I want to emphasize that when YA and CC were written, Wanda had Jewish heritage, so I don't think there needs to be any awkwardness in the transfer between the Maximoff and Kaplan families, and the text never does anything to imply that Billy's cultural upbringing is any less valid, or any less central to his character after his origins are revealed.
Here, they created a false dichotomy between the two characters, killed one them off, and made the other into a body-snatcher. That is so much darker, and so much more tragic for the Kaplans-- and it creates uncomfortable questions about their relationship, and Billy's identity, that I don't think can ever be neatly resolved. I will say that, thus far, I don't think the show explicitly disavows "William's" heritage, or writes off Billy's relationship with the Kaplans, the way some people are reporting. He doesn't actually remember his life before the switch, so it's not a total takeover, and at points, the episode seems to imply that he's somehow both, and neither-- a new gestalt.
But I don't trust these writers to execute that concept with integrity, or even consistency. In WV and MoM, Wanda's motives, sense of self, and relationship to her powers repeatedly change at the drop of a dime, and we're seeing the same thing, here, with the abrupt change that takes place when Billy reveals his identity. The shift in personality, escalation of power, and the vague implication that he's been masterminding this whole excursion makes no sense with the established timeline-- this is all happening within 24 hours of him even learning that Wanda had kids, let alone that he might be one of them, not to mention hearing about both Agatha the Witches Road for the first time. And up until that point, he really was just an earnest kid. The heel-turn feels silly and juvenile, and the needle drop at the end of episode #5 underscores that a little too perfectly-- his "bad guy" act is just as ill-fitting and unsubstantiated as the Eilish's edgy, wannabe-thug aesthetics.
Obviously, the most important issue here is not the quality of writing, but where this character falls into the spectrum of whitewashing and erasure. The fact that Locke is not Jewish but, before the switch, is playing a Jewish character-- and, specifically trespassing on prayer and religious ceremonies-- is a problem. I've seen a lot of different opinions expressed by a lot of different people within the community about who can or can't play Jewish characters, but I think we can all agree that this is worth criticizing, especially given the larger context of repeated erasure and historical distortion against Jewish and Roma people in this franchise.
But I also want to emphasize that, because of what was done to Wanda, and the franchise's insistence on conducting blatant anti-Romani racism, there was never going to be a truly authentic or acceptable version of this character. Now matter how they cast the role, a significant part of his background had already been erased, and he was already saddled with significant racist baggage. I am very, very tired of white people and Young Avengers fans overlooking that fact.
#and I think I've said this before but I want to reiterate that I actually would have been okay with Billy and Tommy being played by#white jewish actors IF Wanda & Pietro had been correctly cast and written with authenticity and sensitivity.#Because I understand that getting 4+ actors who all perfectly match each character's compound identities is a very tall order! If these#different background had all been represented authentically and in a way that celebrates intersection (rather than denying it and throwing#other minorities under the bus the way so much of this fandom loves to do) I think a little flexibility would be just fine.#What we actually got is not fine. But it was never going to be-- this character was doomed from the start and I don't understand what kind#of hope you all were holding onto here.#billy kaplan#wiccan

hello radiant emperor fandom. i heard you guys like dark historical fantasies about genderqueer warlords and their ruthless pursuit of Revenge and/or The Throne… well let me put you onto something:
need more emo femboys with daddy issues? doomed siblings? lord/vassal dynamics? romantic stabbing? corruption arcs? sexy masochism? you 🫵 should consider reading
Requiem of the Rose King by Aya Kanno
loosely based off Shakespeare's Henry and Richard plays, this manga follows intersex protagonist Richard III (yes he has straight black hair with the bangs covering one eye. yes it’s to hide his heterochromia) through England's War of the Roses.

(he is so cute don't you just want to see him snarling and covered in blood. don't you want to see him slowly abandon his ideals in a desperate bid to be accepted by the world that shunned and demonized him.)

battle, bloodshed, and court politics ensue! also because it's a shoujo manga, Richard becomes the psychosexual obsession of most of the male cast and engages in a toxic doomed relationship or two.
this is not a series for those looking for good queer rep, but perfect for anyone who wants to read about beautiful criminally insane people tearing each other's throats out and being horny about it. it is fun, violent, melodramatic, sexy, and utterly devastating. and although it is tonally very different from TRE, it has so many similar ingredients that i think it deserves to be on your radar. actually it deserves to be on everyone's radar, it's so fucking good and doesn't get anywhere near the attention it deserves...

yea there is an anime that is unforgivably ugly and so heavily censored it's a mystery why they even bothered to adapt it. would not recommend it at all but i guess you can watch it if you want, i am not the police.
actually no i changed my mind. Aya Kanno's work is stunning and deserves to be appreciated. ok case rested.
#the radiant emperor#swbts#rotrk#requiem of the rose king#shoujo manga#for posterity i am reiterating: the rep is not good this is not an authentic or realistic portrayal of intersex experience/identity#not to mention a handful of other questionable elements that i'm not going into here bc this is a rec post#regardless i think this series will hit for anyone who enjoys narratives that explore gender and dysphoria#not all of those hits are bullseyes but i still had a great time. no regrets would sob my eyes out in the middle of the night again#originally i wanted to make a general rec post for rotrk#but most of my followers are tre people so nobody else will see it anyway 👍#anyway thanks for coming to probably my most niche self-indulgent post yet#please nobody report me for nipple
