sorry if you've talked about this before but i really don't like when people are like 'there's no way kaz (or the other crows) is a teenager i had to imagine them as 30yr olds' idk if its because i read the books when i was 15 myself but even now (at 23) i don't really get the argument. i'd love to hear your thoughts on it

I made like a million and one posts about this on my old account back when season 1 came out, but basically yeah. I've always seen them as teenagers, and I think the whole "Leigh only made them teens for it to fit the YA market, they're really in their 20s" is kinda bullshit. Like, so much of where the characters are emotionally is directly tied to their ages and the story and their arcs just wouldn't work the same way of they were older. People will point out ways that they're emotionally immature or inconsistent or arrogant or don't seem to know what they want/how to be in a relationship and it's like. yeah that's cuz they're teenagers. That's not a flaw in the writing that's what being a teenager is like.

It also explains their almost absurd level of "yeah, we can do that" about genuinely impossible-seeming things. That kind of "I'll fight God idgaf" energy is really characteristic of teenagers to me because you're still figuring shit out and therefore don't have a set idea of what things are or are not considered "possible", so you're way more open to big risks and wild ideas.

And I know people always point to their skill levels as what makes this unbelievable, but these are a bunch of people who have been forced to develop a specific skill set at an absurdly young age basically at the expense of anything else. Kids and young people can really master complex things at a level most adults don't have, and are in some ways more suited to it, the problem is that it's almost always at the expense of a lot of other important developmental experiences and needs. We as a society generally agree that putting kids in the position where they specialize really intensely at a young age and neglect everything else is bad, so we don't generally do that, but these are kids who were put in that position on a basically life-or-death level and managed to survive.

That's in part why I'd really like to see soc 3 at some point down the line. Not just because I want more content or whatever, but because once you leave your teens and hit your 20's you're forced to confront all the deficiencies in your childhood and how things that you thought are just in the past are very much lingering and becoming impossible to ignore. It's a really intense place to be in emotionally and it's something I think it would be really fascinating to watch the crows have to navigate, on top of the fact that a lot of them have just achieved lifelong dreams and goals and now have to figure out what they want to do next.

Anyway, that went way longer than I thought it would, so TL;DR the crows are absolutely teenagers and the story is better that way.

Here's my (probably not) hot take on anti-shipping: it represents an instinct found in pretty much all of humanity, and that is the instinct to label anything that makes you feel a negative emotion as morally reprehensible.

We really, really cannot afford to condone or encourage this instinct. I can't stress this enough.

I've been in online arguments with antishippers who start from one of the typical talking points ("it normalises it in real life", "it makes people think its okay", "it's triggering to survivors", "it's not a healthy way of coping"), but eventually they get to "Well, even though you're right, it's still gross/you're still a freak!"

And every time I'm like, ah. Here's the real root of the problem.

Beloveds, please. Your disgust is understandable, but PLEASE. If a ship is so revolting to you for any reason, problematic or not, PLEASE just do what you can to make sure you never come across it again. Block. Mute. Unfollow. Whatever. This isn't even for my own sake; I couldn't care less about what people I will never meet in the real world think about what I do to fictional characters in my free time. I'm an adult with a job and responsibilities and your angry words online won't stop me from doing what I like to think cartoon characters.

I'm so passionate about this subject because I live in a country where queer people are harassed, raped, and killed en-masse because it is 'disgusting' to people. I have struggled with depression for years because of this.

And before you type "I can't believe you're comparing homophobia to not liking your fucked up incest pedo ships", I need you to actually listen to me. If you can determine what is morally wrong based solely on your disgust or discomfort, what's stopping other people from doing the same? Racists, homophobes, terfs and the like? You do know how many of their 'moral' arguments stem from disgust and discomfort, right?

If you can't confidently point to tangible harm being caused by the ship, individual or art, you're better off just avoiding it. Yes, this also includes if it triggers you, unless it was specifically made to trigger you.

Off topic, but this also applies to so much more than ships. I've seen people get dog piled just for being 'unfunny'. It's why I am so staunchly against cringe culture as a concept, why I don't care what labels other members of the LGBTQ community use, why idgaf about other people's consensual kinks. People are wired differently and are often weird or strange in one way or the other. Ship whatever you want because that’s your choice(and idgaf fr.) but that fandom swears up and down they were wronged, sidelined and ignored. Klaus and Caroline do not know each other seriously and Care wouldn’t be besties with the family either. It’s built off of sidelining Tyler and the erasing Klaus’ love for witches. Julie and the writers serviced that ship as much as gave to Delena.

Favorite part of canon that everyone ignores(22): I wouldn’t say everyone ignores this certainly not Bonnie fans. But, that Bonnie did matter to her friends. It wasn’t perfect in those earliest seasons (and never was after that) but her friends considered her valuable. I say this because I’ve gotten too many comments under some old posts about how nobody liked Bonnie at all and she was witch-service to all and how crazy I am for making it up.

Common fandom complaint that you’re sick of hearing(25): hm i got a few. Comparing writing issue you disliked ex: Elena’s ending, Caroline being widowed somehow equals the same level of Bonnie’s mistreatment. Or any other character of color for that matter. Bonnie hating vampires, don’t know how she hates them when all her friends have been one, she considers Damon her bestfriend more than anybody and she dated one for 4 years lmao. People use Bonnie’s side eyes to Damon/Stefan and her being distant with Caroline or Elena after something happened to fuel that bs and that’s not the case. Bonnie found Caroline covered in murder and stepped back. Elena kept choosing her boyfriends over Bonnie (she did offer to help but..) and Bonnie stepped back. I think people tend to forget that there's two ways to see the sexualization in mha (or any show but im hyperfixated on mha) : by looking at the show from a character's pov, and by looking at the show from a reader's pov. understand, by ignoring the fact that this was written by some japanese man or not.

first case, this is just how things are, this is how the world is, no one wrote these characters and they're just people who make their own choices.

thinking about it like this, midnight or miruko's suits aren't worse than all the dudes wearing tight ass shit that shows their dick outline. kirishima being shirtless isnt less nakey than momo having her whole ass chest on display if she makes a wrong move. mirio is naked a stupidly high amount of time and shouto's clothes are at risk of getting burnt and falling off. dabi broadcasted his half naked ass in all of Japan and pulled up at a battle half naked, hawks is def as much of a hot playboy with horny fans as mount lady is a hot playgirl (??) with horny fans, and the latter's costume isn't tighter than like all might or twice's costume. toga is just wearing her uniform and the fact that she ends up naked everytime she uses her quirk isn't anyone's fault. etc etc.

now the other way of seeing this is the "right, horikoshi kohei wrote this, momo didn't decide her costume looks like that because momo is lines on paper and can't make decisions" way.

and then, it's weird. because horikoshi is a straight (as far as I'm aware) man who's also admittedly a pervert (like a lot of male mangakas so no one's surprised) and horikoshi definitely did not draw endeavors costume thinking of the same thing as when he drew mount lady's costume. horikoshi didn't think mmm thats hot when he made mirio's quirk get him naked but he did think that when he made it so hagakure is naked all the time (or at least he knew of the sexual innuendo, evidently given that One Hagakure Piece he made, + all the art of hagakure being in skimpy clothing or showing her panties bc heh. she's invisible. my point isn't to say it's bad, you can have whatever opinion you want on that, my point is that I never saw art of mirio where he's playfully naked for fanservice, it stopped to the one fight scene).

mainly the problem here (without thinking of horikoshi being weird because everyone knows that) is that a lot of fandom people try to defend horikoshi and the show using arguments from the first case and vice versa.

it always makes me think of that one youtuber (french lmao) who said that people saying some female character in one piece is sexualized is slut shaming her. no, it's not. if another character in one piece was insulting that sexy character because of what she wears or how she behaves, that would be slut shaming. your one piece woman was drawn by some dude in japan, she didn't choose to dress or act this way, a guy who thought it'd be hot did.

now that I've said all that idgaf what you think of horikoshi or the sexualization of characters in mha, what annoys me the most with it is how ugly or impractical the costumes end up being tbh.

So you’re telling me…. Their most successful ship, the most developed love story… they decided to make one half of it an antagonist in the others story as relationship drama because apparently a college athlete and journalism college intern couldn’t POSSIBLYYYY be together healthily without their dream careers conflicting..? Like the complete insult to our intelligence with some bulllshit ass last minute fight that was waaaay too premature for 18 year olds to even be dealing with anyway. Well, actually not even because ASHER’S career goals are more conflicting for Spencer than Liv’s really is. They’ve let them fight and make up. They didn’t even allow the story to go in the direction of making Asher a villain in Spencer’s story despite him literally using personal information against him to have an advantage on him. Like that’s actual natural conflict and even the clear wrongness of that situation, the audience STILL took that man’s side. But with Liv, the one person who has alwaaaaaays had his back, is now turning around angry at Spencer for being in the way of her job????? Besides 4.19, where was the build up of Liv being increasingly annoyed with Spencer about the arguments they were having. She literally told him in 4.17 she wasn’t going anywhere sooooo what’s this 2 episodes later where she is absolutely fed up and can’t do ‘it’ anymore? What even is IT. 2 days later and I honestly still don’t get her point. She completely ignored every line about not communicating and instead proceeded to be upset that he didn’t validate that she was right. Like okay, whatever stance she has is already odd and ooc anyway but they could’ve at least let her speak very clearly about what she was saying instead of speaking in haiku poems. I’m so frustrated that a character this fandom all knows WELL and loves are confused with her behavior and dialogue. At what point did the switch come where her advancement in her EARLY career was more important to her than fighting for her healthy relationship and partner who would quite literally move the world for her. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe she should sacrifice her dreams for him but their writing this like that’s basically the conflict rn. It would be more in character for her to say I don’t want you working with shady and evil people because that ultimately affects your game but no, she’s saying “I can’t miss another big opportunity to advance my career because of you”. (……..) so is this tension coming from Spencer about to fight Wade over her? Like I just am so frustrated that they really are making her completely disregard Spencer’s perspective and feelings in all of this. Some people are just like “they’ll be fine, they probably won’t actually break up” well sure, maybe, but I’m more concerned for the HEALTH of this relationship. It’s not looking good at all. It’s making her look completely selfish and all consumed without her even fighting for this man and what they’ve built their relationship to be over the last year. This is not an authentic crossroads for them, this is forced drama that ‘had to happen’ to show that they’re not perfect and what balancing ‘careers’ look like for them. Spencer seemed to have figured it out well but they have her spiraling off the rails. And again, fair if that’s just where she’s at mentally but why couldn’t the root of the spiral be from work and not tension with Spencer over work she chose to do in his career field. She’s quite literally stepping at every turn to write about topics in HIS field and getting upset that he’s in her way. Like HE’S the roadblock. Well duh hun! It’s HIS TEAM!!!!

I mean on top of all this… because of her story on Wade she inadvertently almost got her and her friends killed by the SWAT team…… and now she’s teaming up with the same sociopath that almost got them killed/arrested to take down a GROWN man with even more power than the idiot who framed all of her friends just a night ago. WHERE IS THE LINE!!! Trust me, idgaf about Garrett. He probably should get taken down and exposed but she’s SO pressed to get her name on an article that she’s willing to risk that all over again just to be right?! The problem the antis have is that they turn this into a moral issue when actually it's just a bunch of people expressing their sexuality in ways that has nothing to do with incest in most cases. You have an emotional attachment to the twins. That makes you the type of person who wants to have an emotional attachment to people, and you decided at this moment to focus on them.

Also, a lot of people are really into their close relationship with each other, -their 'twin connection'- and they were heartbroken when Ingo was separated from Emmet by falling into the rift. Blankshippers feel that way too, but the only thing separating them from the rest of the submas fandom is that they -we- think that it's hot to have Ingo and Emmet enjoying a physical relationship. If you aren't into it, then don't be. Why couldn't someone head canon them having a close platonic twin connection with all the benefits of an old married couple who doesn't bother with doing the deed anymore? That would be enough for me if blankshipping didn't exist.

The blankshipping tag is thriving at the moment and full of people expressing non-incest type fantasies as they explore or express their sexualities. Off the top of my head...there has been romantic intimacy, spanking, stalkerish yandere fantasy, amputation, hurt and comfort, forbidden love, public display of affection, m-preg, comforting a trauma survivor... Any ship could experience all those, not just the train twins. I saw the same thing in the ralts line fandom where irl people were fixated on being either a gallade or a human who had romantic involvement with a gardevoir. Some would have very human kinks, and others would try to imagine what it would be like (zeno? kin?) to be intimate in a way unique to their own kind. IE: Chest piece or ear rubbing.

But like just keep in mind... I have more solidarity with a trans masculine person as a trans femme (kinda, our body is trans femme at least.. Maybe im trans femme adjacent) than I do with cis people. I have more solidarity with physically disabled people than I do with abled-bodied neurotypicals.

Im just gonna say. Venting is fine. Banners are cute (like the "abled-bodied people don't interact", I respect that!) But if you put some effort into finding your commonalities, educating over the ignorance (which believe me is fucking there, in many ways from both directions though intensity or equity of issues is an argument) my gut instinct is that you will find a closer ally than you think.

The girl on the right (in red) is my 1.0 WoL, Thalia, my current main’s predecessor and older sister. The girl on the left (with the moon staff) is Una Tayuun. She is a background character and 1.0 survivor that’s completely missable if you never talk to anyone in the Waking Sands.

I got interested in her because I AM that person who talks to all of the npcs and of course noticed that she had the same weird amnesia that all of the other canon NPCs have about the 1.0 adventurers while also, apparently, being one of those adventurers or at least related to them.

“Who was this character in 1.0?” I wondered. “what was she like?” but information about 1.0 is scarce and mostly lost. I would look it up eventually, I thought. But never got around to it... always held a fondness for her though. I have a soft spot for background characters that nobody talks about.

Then a few months ago I got the very silly idea to make a WoL fanfic. But before I could talk about my main, I had to think about his predecessor. Who were the people she would have known? who would have remembered her? What would be the significance of these relationships?

And eventually decided I really wanted to make Thalia a bigger part of the story than I intended, and start with *her* journey, in 1.0. We’re always saying we wish we could see the story of 1.0 right? What if I just novelized it! Simple.

...Well turns out that’s a bigger ask than I anticipated lmao, but. Trying to weave the unfinished and largely-retconned lore into the current storylines to make a cohesive (and hopefully interesting) narrative is the kind of overly-ambitious challenge that activates my dopamine receptors. 

So wtf does this have to do with Una?  Well, how do you make a story memorable? give your themes a name and a face. it’s not just the story of a world, it’s the story of a person, a life. and their relationships play a big part of that life.

Una has a “rough around the edges”, “IDGAF” personality. She talks like a lominsan (or just lowborn), curses, talks with her mouth full, she’s confident and a little abrasive. She’s an adventurer. She was a member of Minfilia’s Path of the Twelve. We’re not sure if she had the echo or not. She hangs out with a couple of guys who are kind of standoffish rough assholes. She’s a miqo’te seeker of the sun with a keeper of the moon name and she’s a conjurer. This is all we know about her canon, that leaves a lot of flexibility to fill in details. She’s just the right age (according to encyclopedia eorzea 1), and has enough presence to hook into the narrative easily.  

Thalia is stubborn, impulsive, and fiercely independent. She has a big sense of responsibility, but at the start of her journey is very much rebelling against having an overwhelming burden of responsibility forced onto her. She awakens to the Echo at 13 years old which, in addition to the usual Echo things, gives her the ability to tell when people are being deceitful. 

In 1562 of the 6th astral era, quite a lot of things happen. It’s when the world starts to really fall apart, though most people won’t realize it for many years. In the midst of all the Inciting Incidents(tm), Thalia gets into a huge argument with her mom and runs away from home.

She ends up in Gridania, where she meets Una, a novice conjurer. (still hammering out the details on how Una got there). They bond over them both being “outsiders” in a time when Gridania is, arguably a lot more insular and xenophobic than usual (which is saying something). Una appreciates Thalia’s direct approach to problems and unwillingness to do as she’s told, and Thalia appreciates how Una is willing to call someone an idiot to their face (and honestly likes having someone of her own age around for once). They are young teenagers and they are -so- annoying.

They’re friends for over a year, through a bunch of canon happenings, before the puppy crush manifests.

Around 1564ish, Thalia is 16 and Una is 15. They’re each-other’s first kiss. They start dating officially. They leave Gridania together, and Thalia introduces Una to her family (it goes...complicatedly). Then they go to Limsa Lominsa, which is a lovely place for two unaccompanied teenage girls, but there’s a new Admiral in charge and a bunch of -stuff- happening. They get into and out of so much trouble. 

Eventually they start working with the Company of Heroes, and things get ... really, really complicated. Thalia is called more and more towards destiny by The Plot. A distance grows between them. Being a hero and being a good girlfriend aren’t always compatible.

In 1568, they get into a huge fight. They break up. They regret it later, but ... things get in the way. Time and distance and, circumstance.

Una gets a new crew. She joins the Path of the Twelve. She’s sad sometimes, regretting what could have been, but is the type to just keep moving forward and never looking back unless she has to (wounds can’t hurt if you pretend they aren’t there. ironic, for a healer).

Thalia runs with the Ironworks a while but it doesn’t stick. She has a kind of crisis of identity, and walls herself off from the world. She quits adventuring, gets married to a man she barely knows and has a baby, trying to fit herself into a mold and do what she’s “supposed” to do.

And then the damn moon starts falling. It’s 1572. Thalia has a 2 year old, she is not supposed to be in the field. But she *has* to be. It’s what she was called for. What she was chosen for.

Una, as a part of the Path and a longtime adventurer, is of course involved in...everything. They cross paths a time or two, but there’s little time to mend broken bonds in the middle of a pending apocalypse. And, well, Thalia’s married now. No matter how unhappy she seems, that isn’t Una’s place. Not anymore.

Still, they talk a time or two. Maybe if things were different, if they had more time...

It’s not to be. Thalia dies. Una dies too, much later, after (re)meeting Thalia’s little brother. A tragic story like so many others.

... but.

The events of shadowbringers, particularly 5.3 are very strange. Mass summoning across the rift. Many free-floating spirits, and unfortunate fallen bodies. Potentially, a few cracks in reality wide enough for some things to fall through. Or be guided through by a benevolent hand already shown as willing and able to guide souls between the shards. And with strong enough wills, who knows what might be possible?

My Ships!

Hey guys! So currently it's late at night and I wanna write something to help me sleep. So here I am on my phone quickly writing out all my ships down so you guys can see what a loser I am lol.

Now feel free to discuss your opinions, but dont start any ship wars or bash anyone's ships, alright? Cool! So here we go! Each ship will have a short explanation as to why I ship it. And they are in order from favorite to least, though my least favorite is still one I like.

Ishimondo-This is my biggest comfort ship. I love enemies to lovers so much and these two idiots are just...such a beautiful tragedy.

Saimota-Can someone say bromance? Like please they were flirting so hard it hurts. They are dating your honor.

Saimatsu-Please the way she was able to motivate him? Even after death she helped him improve. They had such chemistry from the very beginning.

SakurAoi-Yeah yeah Sakura has a bf whatever. But they technically werent dating yet cause they were waiting til Kenshiro got well. So...LES GO LESBIANS! Hina was about to commit murder suicide for her boo. Literally lovers.

HaruKaito-So even besides the fact Maki straight up confesses, I disagree with people saying they dont have chemistry. They're adorable and Kaito opens her up to people. This ship is adorable af.

Tokomaru-Similair to Kaito and Maki! Komaru helped Toko be a better person! Like I hated Toko at first, but after UDG, shes a top tier favorite. This ship is too cute.

Soudam-Again I love enemies to lovers. Idgaf if they never show romantic interest in each other shut up. They're beautiful bastards, both of them.

Fuyupeko-...do...do I really need to explain? Just play the second chapter again lol.

Hinanami-Im not a big fan of Hajime. In fact hes my least fave protag. But I think the way they interact and the way he is around Chiaki is too fucking cute.

Sondam-They had the more obvious chemistry in the game, and I love Sonia with Gundham. They fit each perfectly, having similar interests. Plus how sad she was when he died? 😭

Kiiruma-Ok so they're a perfect fit right? Kiibo was one of the only ones to even care when Miu died, and Miu seemed to care about Kiibo. Yeah because she could upgrade him, but I feel theres more there!

Naihiro-Now this is a rare pair. I think the two of them are very cute and soft boys, so they relate to each other. Theyd be a very sweet couple.

Akanidai-Nekomaru literally died to protect Akane, and took two bazookas to the chest for her. They were inseparable. Case closed. They cute.

Daiyakure-Another rarepair. It's hard to ship Hiro with people cause you'll get hit with the "hes 21 and they're underage" argument. But with Daiya Oowada, you can say hey, fuck you! Theres literally no interactions between them. It's almost a crack ship. But I love it more than I should.

Naekure-Another Hiro ship, but this one can be justified by saying they start dating after they escape the game and they know they're both adults. I think Makoto would be a decent balance to Hiro's...everything.

Togakure-Same logic as with Makoto as to when they get together. Byakuya would be able to deal with his idiot enough to calm him down slightly. Plus it would be a funny contrast.

Ishikure-Ok now this is a bit harder to explain. I see it more as they were dating before the mind wipe, and in survivor aus theyd date again. I just think Hiro being the only one to care about him after ch 2 is sweet and that the two would be cute.

Hagekureon-Same reasoning as with Taka;Hiro and Leon were dating before the game and/or they date in survivor aus. I think the two idiots together would be an interesting combo, like with Ishimondo.

Naegami-Finally, back to well known ships!😅 So Byakuya clearly cares for Makoto even if he tries to hide it. He'd be a good partner to Makoto, if not a bit tsundereish.

Kuzusouda-Fuyuhiko was like the only one to try to curb Kazuichi's simping, and they have a nice friendship in the anime(from what I've seen and heard, havent seen all of it😅)so I think Fuyu would be able to help Kaz accept himself.

Asakure-Once again, getting together after game. My friend put it as "the two idiots getting together. Its cute." And hes not wrong lol Despite Hina being slightly smarter and the fact she bullied Hiro a bit in game, I can see them working off each other nicely.

Goshi-Firstly I just love the striking difference in their heights. It's funny as hell to me lmao. But secondly I think Gonta's sincereness and kindness could eventually break through to Ryoma and help him realize he isnt unlovable, and he is worth something.

Twobuki-I just think Ibuki's constant praise and lowkey flirting with Twogami is adorable, especially given his...size. Usually people would make a character like that completely unlovable, so the fact she was seen doting on him so much is adorable.

BandAid-Now I normally dont ship killers and victims. It just doesnt feel right to me. But given Mikan was more or less brainwashed into doing it, i kinda give this ship a pass. Plus i think Ibuki could help her be more confident in herself and stop letting others use her.

Soapies-I dont really like either of these characters, thus why its last on the list, but I think Mahiru is the only one who could "tame" Hiyoko, for lack of a better word. She could help her stop being a bully and actually open up to others. Plus they both care a lot about each other. It's cute. Its sweet.

So that's my list! It might grow, and if it does I'll reblog this post to add onto it! Feel free to give your opinions on it, but remember: no ship wars!
