Hey! Idk if it’s a weird question but I wanted to know how you do your line work and how you color/render things? all of ur stuff looks like those concept illustrations that are put in “art of *insert media*” and I think it’s so so neat, and I rlly wanna see if I could learn how to color that way too, cause I love art solely meant to get a concept behind, and sometimes sketches don’t get it through right
It doesn’t even gotta be a tutorial like literally throw a speed draw or smth (if u want, u def don’t gotta)
Anyways regardless I love and adore your work and artstyle and everything u do so so much and it’s rlly fire and cool, especially how u do lighting and composition??? Like omaiga
Hello again!! I literally need to get better at replying to asks cuz why am I just seeing this from 2024??? U can throw bricks at me I won’t mind
OK SO I wish I could upload multiple speed paints but I am only allowed ONE,,,, (if u have certain posts you’d wanna see a Timelapse for lmk!) but a lot of the time I don’t like spending too much energy sketching (if the idea is there, it must be barfed out immediately ts). I like to sketch with my lineart brush, just so I already have a feel of what the lines will look like in the end 😼
As for rendering, I have like two different approaches for characters and environments. Esp w environments, I like to focus on values so most pieces I start off in greyscale.
Once the values start hitting, that’s when I’ll go in with like a color or multiply layer to feel out the overall color/vibes. I feel that especially when working from scratch/concept work, u want to leave room for yourself to experiment! I’ll probs do multiple versions of a composition before I go further lolz
And for characters, I literally follow the recipe of sketch, line, base, gradient, and texture. Like every time LOL. If I want things to look like reallyy concepty I’ll go in with a watercolor-like brush, but I’ve been slowly fusing out of that since I’ve been liking just flats n lines <3 anyway here’s a human!toothless w some of my layers

I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE and gives some perspective into my weird process!!! Ty for the ask!!
Also if yall wanna see the speedpaint for my httyd 15 anniversary piece it’s here!
#art tings#httyd#rotg#human!toothless#art process#watching speedpaints with nightcore playing in the bg was literally how I learned digital from scratch LMAO#I am very happy to share my process I think everyone should and we can exchange art tips and cool vibes#talking abt how my art looks like concept art KISSES U but also I consume a lot of concept art books in general!!

"On first meeting, Michaela presents as a devilish charmer: quick-witted, fast talking, always with a joke. But beneath that exterior is a perceptive, kind, loyal soul. She'll very rarely let you in that deep though, because Michaela knows she doesn't fit into what's expected of young ladies and is afraid of being scrutinized too closely. Crack her exterior even deeper and you'll find a well-concealed sadness about the fact that she hasn't been able to find the right romantic partner with whom to share her loyalty and love." – Michaela's character description // insp. x x x x

hihi! first off, I absolutely LOVE your artstyle lol
would you have any tips on how to draw rosettes? I’ve been practicing drawing markings for a while now but I still can’t get it to look round/circle-ish yet natural lmao
Thank you! and Rosettes are weird lil guys haha; here's how I do them!:
Rosettes come in a lot of varieties though! Some rosettes have more or less blobs, or sometimes they're just solid dots/blobs. 3 blobs just makes a good example for a tutorial because it shows how the blobs follow a circle shape
And by "cirular" i mean anything from a perfect circle, to a wide oval, to a rounded rectangle or triangle lol (leopard photo below from unsplash)
You could actually probably do step 4 first, and use that 'inner circle' as your circular guideline for your blobs! I prefer doing my blob lines first though so I can space each rosette out how I like (vs doing the inner circle first and later realizing that with the blob lines the rosettes are too close together)
I used my typical triangle brush because I use it for everything But a circular brush looks more realistic I think:
Hope that helps!

trying a very different approach to color ala tim mcburnie style and it's making me melt. figured i'd share it bc Idk it's more complicated but I like the way it's making me think/plan
thumbnail and rough sketch that i liked so much i turned it into....
and then made several color thumbnails/messed around w them for awhile
until finally settled on this one
and then
so the current foliage lines look like this and they're on 11 different layers (i'll merge some to be back, mid and forground in a bit)
(i also started on solas' head just ignore it for now)
and next step is really spend more time on the construction layer for lavellan and the wolf statue (solas is ready to be lined bc i drew him first)
then color with flats using quick masks instead of by hand like i'm used to c:
this is all wayyyy more layers than i'm used to but I do kind of like it so far; particularly the color thumbnail and construction layer/phase part
#idk if this really counts as art tutorial but ? basically?#pina art#i've had this idea in my head for years. like since 2014#and it's bc i imagine solavellan sitting on a fenharel statue while he ties flowers to her staff like in prince of egypt. you know the scen#but i always wanted it set in the emerald graves and ive just never really had the skill to make it come out how i wanted before#anyway i'll updated with completed lines and probably flats later#i want to note i'm not like. spending too long on this. trying to keep it to like 30-60 mins per ''phase''#and the og thumbnail i did several weeks ago lol

I think I accidentally uncovered yesterday why my family generally are fine with generative AI, especially when it comes to arts and "creative" matters.
I am (famously) quite bad at taking compliments (though I have gotten WAY better at it, and am actively working on it), and was drawing on my tablet while my parents sat next to me. My mom complimented my drawing skills, following it up with "I can barely draw a stick figure".
(Side note: this might be a me-problem, but I think that combining a compliment with a "comparison to the speaker" gives the compliment a sour undertone, but again, that might just be me. I've seen too many posts and things about "comparison is the theif of joy" or whatever the quote is, to feel comfy with accepting a compliment that essentially boils down to "holy crap you're so much better than me!!" 🫠🫠)
I thanked her, and replied with something along the lines of "it's all about practice, and I have practiced a lot," to which she countered with "no but like, you've always been good at drawing," to which I tried explaining that, like a muscle, I have been drawing and doodling a lot, in other words, practiced, right? I have always had an interest in drawing, which of course helps keeping me motivated to actually get better at it. And if she wanted to be able to draw more than a stick figure, I am certain she would be able to if she did practice (I brought up PewDiePie's drawing videos as an example), but she dismissed it entirely as something she wasn't able to do.
Even though my mother, having an interest in the human body and as a result knowing damn near every single muscle in the body by the latin name because she studied that, refused to accept that I have done the same to get better at my own skill, because, of course, I never went to school for it, right? I don't have a diploma to prove that I have practiced an ungodly amount of hours and watched more tutorials than I will ever care to count.
Being "good at drawing" (and other arts) is (I think) something my family simply believes that you either are born with, or you're not.
And that's where the justification for gen AI comes in, right? Because if arts is not a thing you practice and study to get better at, it is probably, in their minds, ableist to talk bad about gen AI, because "how can you gatekeep expression in art like that?" (My brother once pulled the argument that "well what if someone wants to make a comic and has the story and all but can't draw? Don't you think they deserve to create that comic in other ways, then?" to which I have never been more confused because what the entire fuck do you think other comic artists did to achieve that in the past, my guy??)
I eventually gave up when my mom kept asking me to "just accept the compliment" but I haven't quite been able to. Because if the compliment is just regarding something "I had since I was born", what has all my practice been for? Why have I "wasted" all this time trying to get better if I was born with the skillset I have now? Why is the compliment directed at me if my parents were the ones bringing me into this world? Shouldn't they be patting themselves on the back for bringing such a creative spirit to life?
#anti-ai#i'm tired#my mom has a tendency to compliment things that are un-changeable too so like it is also very unfortunate phrasing#on her part#and I have tried to explain my unfcomfiness about this to her before but I think she's forgotten that#like yes compliments about my eye color and height and whatever are cool i guess#but if you compliment *the way I did my makeup* or *something I worked hard to achieve* or *something I made* it makes more sense ?? no???#like bestie YOU gave me those eyes or height or whatever I had no CHOICE IN THE MATTER#idk if this is just my undiagnosed neurospicyness reading too much into the situation but#discussing art and creative endeavours with my family is infuriating at times lmao#i tried to explain MULITPLE TIMES yesterday that drawing is all about making sense of proportions and patterns#and yet she tried to shoehorn in the compliment as if drawing was some ancient chosen-one power I had somehow aquired#instead of listening to me explaining that “well I've looked at tutorials about drawing shiny things and this is how I think about it-#-and just mess around until it works because 'trust the process' is actually really solid advice“#i also feel like it just reduces all the work and thought I've put into learning and bettering my skills to-#“well you didn't even have to work that hard bcs you were born with it”#*astronaut meme* maybe it was Maybelline all along#I need to fkn move out I'm so tired of this#tove rambles

slowly I'm recovering the beauty of discovery
(creature by half•alive)
(textless + timelapse below cut)
#yellowart#subnautica#i feel like the timelapse is kinda long but also this did take a long time to make#anyways. let me yap about the meanings of all the panels <3#'i am creation' -> the ocean being the source of life and where shit evolved from also a good way to sort of 'set the scene' for subnautica#'both haunted' -> GHOST leviathan; in the BONE fields#'and holy' -> this one was a bit trickier. debated about using the emperor but i knew i wanted to use her elsewhere#also debated hoverfish because its cute and well liked so i thought that would be funny for 'and holy'#also something something jesus walking on water also makes it fitting. in the end though i decided on a peeper with the enzyme trail#and i *tried* to make it loop over its head like a halo but idk how well that imagery came through. still mentioned it in the alt text tho.#'made in glory' -> was REALLY torn about this one. on the one hand i wanted to have like a picture of the code because something something#divine machine and it being made out of code making it inherently holy or something; but i wasnt sure if that would be too#'immersion breaking' since most of the stuff in this is like in game stuff i wasnt sure if acknowledging that it was a game would be#too much. my other idea was to draw a couple of creature eggs like a stalker egg and a spadefish egg or something; but in the end i just#went with the one that i personally thought was cooler so if you think it does feel out of place uhhhh sorry i guess lmao.#also yes that is code from the game. idk shit about programming i just think code shit is cool so i poked though a modding tutorial til i#found what it is they use to look at that shit and started poking around. its pretty cool tbh. anyways the specific part i chose for the#drawing was something under the peepers; i think its the bit that tells the enzyme peepers to do the enzyme stuff like the trail obviously#but also some other stuff. not 100% sure though like i said idk shit about this sort of thing but everything in there seems pretty well#labeled its kinda impressive. and very helpful for navigating even if you dont know shit lol.#anyways. 'even the depths of the night cannot blind me' -> blood kelp trench is i think one of the darkest biomes in the game#possibly THE darkest so i thought it would be fitting. probably my least favorite panel though i dont think i did a very good job#representing the area or representing the bloodvines :/#'when you guide me' -> sea emperor but more specifically her messages to the player telling you to 'come here'#'creature only' -> not sure how well i can articulate this but basically the idea of humans beig animals with animal needs to eat and drink#and the idea of being a part of the ecosystem. modern life tends to make us forget that sort of thing but id imagine for ryley being on the#planet would violently remind him of this with things trying to eat him while he has to try to eat things as well. being part of the food#web. 'creature only' because he is only a creature not non-essential systems maintenance chief; but a creature living in an environment and#trying to survive. or something like that. does that make any fucking sense to anyone besides me? whatever.#anyways yapping over 👍

not exactly a full tutorial, but here’s the process sth like this goes through
first is the rough sketch. when i’m translating a real person to 2d work i try to hone in on personality to determine what shapes to use.
for example Crowley is a demon and very cool looking so i emphasize his actor’s sharper features using shapes like triangles. whereas with aziraphale i ephasized the softer band more rounded shapes. exaggeration is really important when it comes to animated/cartoony characters to distinguish their features, but also be aware to not overdo it or fall into stereotypes.
i really love this shot because of the contrast between their expressions, so i tried to bring that out as much as i could
when i choose colours it’s really a feeling/vibe i go for. so in this pic i chose to use warmer base colours for crowley, and cooler bases for aziraphale to have them contrast with their expressions. the lighting mostly covers this contrast during rendering, but it’s still useful to have to exaggerate the mood for the overall picture.
when it comes to backgrounds i always just simplify the biggest shapes down to their colours, unfortunately i don’t have the separate picture for just the bg here but i’ll probably show my background process at some point if anyone is interested in that sort of tutorial
if y’all have any questions feel free to speak in comments or ask box :3
#mints tutorials#good omens#drawing tutorial#ig? idk how helpful this is#i’ll make a proper tutorial eventually when i’ve got time

hi! if you don't mind me asking, how do you blur the logo on your gifs?
hi angel! it's actually quite simple, i'm gonna put a step by step under read more but if you wish to just do it i made an action to automate the process for me. just make sure you run the action before adding any adjustment layers OR select your gif layer before running it. click here to download and let me know if you have any questions!
alright so! after i've made the gif, i'm usually left with this. if you have only one layer afterwards, that's fine, it doesn't really matter. just always make sure your gif layer is selected. (my photoshop is in portuguese but it should be pretty easy to follow, lmk if there's any questions)
step one: duplicate your gif layer and don't worry if the filters are still activated or not, doesn't really matter. the only thing i usualy edit is the opacity of my layer cause that second is sometimes at 50% so i change the duplicate to 100%. step two: then, add gaussian blur to your duplicated layer. my default one is this one but you can always edit afterwards if that's too much/too weak. so don't worry too much about that now. now we're left with this:
step three: now, to make sure the blur only stays on the logo you're gonna make a layer mask. for anyone not sure, here's where to find it:
and you'll be left with this:
step four: use the select tool (M) and ctrl + A to select the entire image, then delete the entire thing. make sure the mask layer is selected and not your layer, otherwise it will just delete your layer. after you've deleted it, just click anywhere (or ctrl + D) to unselect your image.
step five: select the brush tool (B) and paint over where your logo is. i usually set the size to 35px cause that covers most logos but you can edit if you need something bigger/smaller and i keep the shapness bellow 10% to make sure it blends a little better.
honestly... that's it! your layers should now look similar to this:
and your gif should look like this now vs then
#gif tutorial#faq#idk how to tag this#and hopefully this makes sense... i suck at explaining things honestly.#but lmk if you have any questions

News! I got an Ao3 account! Yaaaay!
Hopefully this will motivate me to actually work on my drafts as to make them complete enough to be considered fanfics, cause at this point most of them can’t even pass as rambles about the bros in situations and I need to work on that!
Here it is if you’d like to check it out!
As for now, I’ve only got one “fic” posted at the moment, if you’ve been around my blog for long enough you’ve probably already read it before, nothing fancy, just a small shot about Sonic suffering from a cold, plus angst.
Its selection as my first ever fanfic uploaded on Ao3 is due to its vagueness in terms of continuity and universe placement, as I got other works which have specifics places on specifics points in the franchise, so this was my opportunity to test the waters as to how the archive works.
I have a few fics planned since a few months ago, and a really long term fic since more than a year ago, but I’ll need time to learn how to properly use the archive, so in the meantime I’ll be posting the few one shots that I already have on my blog.
If you are one of the few who showed interest on me getting an Ao3 and updating some months old stories I ask for your patience! And if you didn’t but still want to read what I’ll be posting, I ask for patience and faith! I’ll need it!
#sonic fanfiction#ao3#finally got an ao3 yippieee#Idk how this works but hey what are tutorials for#please let me know if you find any mistake or possible typo on my profile or in my sole posted work#i also saw something about febuwhump making a September special…#evil thoughts get on my mind#angst thoughts get on my mind
