Hello, darling! ^^ This is a pretty good idea, so I'll kick it off with my newest MHA OC, Hinotori.

What can I say about her? Hinotori is best described as a flame: She's warm and kind hearted, but can be burning hot when she's mad. Speaking of which, fun fact about Hinotori, while she has a bit of Meg's personality from the Disney version of Hercules, her hair flaming when she's mad is actually after Hades when his hair turns red hot when he's mad 🤣

Anyway, like I said in the story, Hinotori was raised by her Mom for the first six years of her life with All Might as a father figure. When her Mom died, All Might took over raising her (which I'm planning on the story of how Hino's Mama died and why All Might took her under his wing in the first place)

Original concepts for the story I'm writing now (I Am Phoenix) included Hinotori being kidnapped by her biological father (I won't spoil who he is, that's in the coming chapters) as a young girl and being raised to be a villain, as well as Hinotori actually being a Midoriya and supporting her brother through UA since they both got in... (Hint: One of these concepts can be seen in the Fantasy AU version 😉)

Anyway! Other fun facts about her.... What can I tell you guys without spoiling anything in I Am Phoenix? Hmmm.... Well, she's a Virgo like me, (September 19th is her birthday), and she's also the first bisexual oc I've created.... I also had a hard time figuring out who to pair her with (I eventually ended up on a love triangle with two certain characters that's already started, might make it into a polyamory at some point, idk... @qweenexplosionmurder13 shout out to my bestie for helping me btw ^^)

SPOILERS WARNING. Do not read if you haven’t watched Miracle Queen!

it’s me just ranting a bit and not making much sense tbh but I need to let this out of my chest in order to be able to act as functional being again because I really can’t get over this season finale.

So, it’s been a whole 24 hours and I still have problems copying with miracle queen. unbelievable

Like, the very little improvment of chloe during this season? GONE, Lila? completly MIA, eventho she is suppoused to be one of the main villains?? I’m impressed of how irrelevant she gets to be except for just a few episodes...

Also, the whole amnesia thing with Fu?? mmm wat??? That was cruel for no reason. He could have been out of the map even with his memories tbh. I feel really sorry for marinette having to deal with everything on her own, especially after that breakdown in love hunter, but yea lets put this poor child in more misery by giving her even more responsabilities I guess. I’m hoping they will work this next season??

and don’t take me wrong, I love kagami and luka and I get why the series is going in this direction with adrien/kagami and marinatte/luka, we all saw it coming so it’s not like I wasn’t prepared for that but, are we really gonna ignore the fact that adrien suspected in kwami buster that marinette could be the love of his life aka ladybug??? I mean, yea, he’s trying to get over ladybug but why isn’t he giving a second thought to marinette, aka the everyday ladybug, at least? idk, I mean, it sounds kind of horrible if we put it that way because he would kind of see her in other light just because she ~resembles~ his lady since he is not over his lady yet. but well, even if I know adrinette is endgame please give me a very little sign from adrien’s side, just him glancing at her or w/e at that end bc I kind of need it after 3 seasons of null improvment from the main ship, give me something to hold on for the whole damn year that it will take to get season 4 please. I know the idea is him /really/ trying to move on but I’m still sad about it dkslajdlj

I think I’m mostly pissed because of how much the lovesquare could have improved over the season, especially adrinette if they were given proper time instead of making them interact in their civilian form for the last 4, 5 episodes only?? out of the 25/26 total, srsly.

Moreover, the fact that we have been spoiled SO many important things and getting the episodes so out of order with zero consistency in terms of time (like, we got 2/3 episodes in a row a few times and then nothing for like 1 month or 2) that really messed up the whole experience of watching the show this time, more than usual.

The main reason I’ll keep giving a try to this mess of a show is because of the idea (and hope based on lit nothing more that just my fantasies) of getting all the marichat scenes that we’ve been robbed since 2015 approx for next season

Because I have only just gotten up to water 7 I have no idea who he is other than what i have read in fics and your tags sparked my interest. Who is this man and what devil fruit is that and why would him being dark! Be a bad thing? Or an interesting thing? Idk. Long ask short who the fuck is that pretty man called Thatch? I like him already

OhhhhHH man, I guess the question here is, how okay are you with being spoiled? Bc in order to answer your question, I’d need to put some MAJOR, MAJOR spoilers.

Actually, if you’re already at Water 7 (and gosh damn are Water 7-Enies Lobby AMAZING arcs ;A;), you’ll understand a lot better if you can get through that first!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you first finish the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc first before reading the following part beneath the cut, because this power shows up in action for the first time after that. If you want exact numbers, that’s anime episode 325 and manga chapter 441.

Explanation of Thatch and Yami Yami Fruit under cut!

＊This explanation assumes that the reader doesn’t know who Thatch is, and isn’t familiar with events in OP canon beyond the Banaro Island duel.

Unfortunately, we see very little of Thatch in canon (I don’t think he even has any spoken lines?), so you’ll be a bit disappointed in that regard, but explanation on that below.

But the devil fruit power. The Yami Yami (Darkness) Fruit is probably going to be the endgame last boss power that Luffy will have to fight at the end of the series.

You may recall, but when Ace met up with Luffy in Alabasta, he mentioned that he’s been tracking someone called “Blackbeard,” who used to be a member of the Whitebeard pirates, before he murdered one of their crew and left.

The crew member who was murdered? That was the Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates: Thatch.

We don’t know too much about Thatch in canon, unfortunately. He was a cook. He was a Division Commander, which means he was strong, and had a position of leadership and responsibility. He’s been with the Whitebeards for a LONG time (a kid who might be him shows up in the Oden flashback in more recent manga chapters). He was the first Whitebeard pirate to befriend Ace (we get to see more of this in the Ace spin-off novel), and we can assume that they were close though we don’t get to see too much of their interactions.

The reason why Thatch was murdered? He found the Yami Yami fruit. And in the Whitebeard pirates, there’s a rule that whoever finds a devil fruit has the right to eat it; that fruit belongs to them. Which means, while we’ll unfortunately never know whether Thatch ever planned on eating the fruit, it was his right to do so, which was why a dark!Thatch AU makes sense; it’s a spin off from this point, a what-if he had eaten it instead of getting killed scenario.

But alas. Thatch is murdered the night he finds the fruit, because Blackbeard recognized the fruit as the one he’s been looking for, and was willing to kill a former crew mate for it. Blackbeard eats the fruit, making him one of the most (if not THE most) powerful person in the OP universe.

The Yami Yami Fruit is still a fruit that’s shrouded in mystery, and we certainly don’t know everything about it yet (and probably won’t know till closer to the end of the series bc again, I personally feel that he’s been set up to be the final last boss).

But we see its powers in action for the first time in the Ace vs Blackbeard duel on Banaro island after the Enies Lobby arc. You don’t need me to spell out everything the power does, there’s a wikia page for that, but it’s WEIRD, and interacts weirdly with other devil fruits. WARNING, that if you read said wikia page you’ll likely get MAJOR SPOILERS for the Summit War arc, so again if you care about spoilers, I wouldn’t read it until you’re done with that ^ ^;

So that’s on Thatch and the Devil Fruit in canon. The following is Thatch in the Mermaid AU specifically.

This is kinda just re-hashing things from other posts, but in this AU, the canon-divergence for Thatch occurs when he temporarily leaves the Whitebeard pirates. Which again, is a result of Ace not joining the Whitebeard pirates at all in this AU, since he’s going to head back to Dawn Island so he can form a crew with Luffy. Thatch decides to tag along for a lot of reasons, including because he wants to meet Luffy, but certainly not limited to that. You can read more of Thatch and the Whitebeard pirates’ reasoning for letting him go in this story post. As mentioned in the canon stuff about him, it makes sense to me that Thatch is the one who accompanies Ace out of any of the other Whitebeards bc they’re close, and he doesn’t have first mate duties like Marco.

In canon, Thatch finds the Yami Yami fruit and brings it back to the Moby Dick, where Blackbeard hears about it, which triggers all the events leading not just to Thatch’s death, but much, MUCH more. I don’t know how much of the Summit War you know, but I personally feel that Blackbeard never getting the chance to eat the Yami Yami fruit kinda skews that whole arc too, and pretty much everything else. Despite having such a minor role in canon, Thatch actually plays a massive role as a trigger in the over-arching plot of the OP story (Thatch deserves to be a D for that LMAO).

ANYWAY, in the Mermaid AU, Thatch finds the Yami Yami Fruit AFTER leaving the Whitebeards, on their journey backwards through the Grandline back to Dawn Island. The only people there with him when he finds it are Ace and Deuce. Blackbeard doesn’t even find out about Thatch finding it until looooong after it’s already been eaten.

So that’s how we get “Dark!Thatch” in this AU. As for whether the devil fruit actually can affect his personality? It’s all just me imagining what it might be like for a guy like Thatch to have eaten the fruit, and is not at all based on canon, bc Blackbeard’s already a pretty twisted guy long before he had the fruit. And again, we don’t know everything about the fruit even in canon, so a lot is just me guessing as well.

I hope this sorta explained Thatch and the devil fruit better!

Ok ! I just woke up from a dream about this anime and have my thoughts more in order so imma dump all them here, thank you anon lol

Warning for spoilers for Blood of Zeus !! I'm going to be talking about some plot points so if you dont want to be spoiled block the tag "blood of zeus spoilers" thank you !!

Okay so first off the designs ! I liked some of them, seraphim has a really neat design and Apollo and Hermes for instance look okay !

But gosh every one else is pretty boring/kind of typical? Like idk Zeus just looks like some middle aged guy, Ares doesnt really have a noticeable design, and Hera is pretty bland too. Like they're greek gods, go wild ! Some of the background gods have more defined designs than the central ones which like?? Why??

I guess a positive is that they're interesting enough to keep your attention but I was super bored to pieces by the story.

Like it felt very set, like it wasnt interested in going more out there with some concepts.

It felt very like just hitting beats, just trying to get to the next point. Idk it felt kind of generic to me? Like you can kind of guess where the story is going to go after the second episode.

I absoluetly did not like how Seraphim was set up as the ruler/leader of the demons and then spent the entire anime being manipulated by Hera. How is he the leader of the demons, that you have shown takes agency in battles and can fight naturally very well spend the entire build up being manipulated so effortlessly by someone he doesnt know/just met like???

ALSO HE JUST FREAKING DIES A THE END??? Like the brother that got screwed over to that extent in his life doesnt deserve a little - at the least - bittersweet end?? It just annoyed me that it was a standard good vs evil story. Also I think I just get annoyed by the whole "you're either with me or against me" type tropes cause it's like characters are so much more nuanced than that and it makes them feel very one dimensional in a way? I also dont like the trope of someone who has gone through suffering and trauma just getting hurt once more and just dying.

On the topic of the fight scenes, I felt like they didn't really have weight to them. Like the action was good ! It was fun to see the fights animated but the sound kind of throws it off? Like none of the hits feel like they have any weight and kind of just rely on the visual to get your through it. Which is weird cause I think this was made by the same people who made the Castlevania anime and that had some cool fight scenes!

If you like this anime that's completely okay ! Its cool that you can enjoy it and find it as something you love/appreciate !

This is just my opinion about why I personally am very bleh/neutral on it lol

You are tapping the table nervously while looking out from the window. You are waiting for Jungkook at small cafe who is supposed to take you to your first date. You have no idea what he had planned for you but he had said that you should wear something casual. After long debating between yourself you had ended up with blue hoodie and pair of jeans. Your hair was on loose ponytail and you had added only slightly make up, you were after all going for that natural look. The cafe is empty except three other customers which you are grateful for. In your small meltdown its better that there isn't many witnesses. You felt excited and scared at the same time. There was seven amazing men and one plain you. Sometimes you wondered that did they see same person which you saw every time when you looked into mirror. You look impatiently passing people trough the glass and sipped your almost empty drink. You weren't huge fan of coffee so instead you were drinking mug of hot chocolate. ''I'm sorry that I'm late.'' Familiar voice startles you from your side.

Jungkook had entered the cafe while you were looking out of the window deep in your thoughts. He looks unfairly good in his simple clothing. He is wearing black leather jacket over white v-neck shirt and pair of black jeans where is zippers on the sides. On his feet is plain black sneakers and lonely silver earring is hanging from his ear. ''It's okay. I haven't been waiting for long.'' You smile softly and Jungkook sits opposite of you. ''Good. It was kind of hectic at my workplace. My boss was breathing for my neck about some missed deadliness which I'm sure he hasn't even mentioned before.'' Jungkook sighs. Jungkook works at small accounting company and his boss is known his demanding nature. ''So, do you want to anything to drink or what you are planned for us?'' You ask while spinning your spoon in your mug nervously. ''There is no need. I will eat on the site of our date.'' Jungkook grins excitedly and rubs his hands together. ''We have one hour before we have to be there so take your time with your drink.'' You phone dings and you pick it out from your pocket. ''Do you mind if I look what was it?'' You gesture towards your phone. ''Go ahead, I don't mind.'' Jungkook assures you. You smile for thanks and open your message app to only notice that you have message from Jimin. Jimin: *I hope that you and Kookie will have good time :)* You: *Thanks, I'm kind of nervous.* Jimin: *Don't be, everything is going to be fine and if it isn't just message me anytime. If kookie even looks you wrong give me a call and I will come to rescue.* You: *Haha, I'm sure that its not going to that.* Jimin: * Just making sure that you know I'm there for you* Jimin's last message makes you blush and Jungkook looks you curiously. ''What was it? Something nice?'' ''It was Jimin.''You admit smiling shyly. ''Oh, I see. I hope he didn't spoil anything to you.'' ''So he does know where we are going?'' You are turning more curious. ''Yep. Did you finish your drink?'' Jungkook asks and you take one last sip from your hot chocolate. ''All done.'' ''Good, let's get going then. We need to get a taxi so we be on time.'' Jungkook stand up and waits you to collect your jacket and purse. When you exit the cafe you are simmering for excitement. Luckily you are able to get a taxi quite fast and you sit into backseat. Jungkook gives the driver an address that sounds familiar to you but you can't still pinpoint where you have heard it before. Jungkook glances you nervously but sighs on relief when there isn't expression of knowledge on your face. The back seat feels small and it doesn't help how Jungkook's thigh rubs yours time to time. You are relieved when you finally get out of the car and into fresh spring air. Jungkook pays for the driver and you look curiously around. You are on the parking lot of the sports stadium. There is cars parked everywhere and mass of people is heading towards the doors. ''I hope that you like basketball.'' Jungkook smiles shyly when he sees your curious face. You spin around and face Jungkook who has came to stand next to you. ''I used to go watch my little brothers basketball games on his high school. I'm not expert of the sport but I found it quite enjoyable.'' You give Jungkook assuring smile and he seems relieved. ''Shall we go then?'' Jungkook asks and offers his hand to you which you instantly accept. You end up following steam of people and waiting your turn on the line. Jungkook's hand is much larger and warmer than yours, his hold has calming effect to you and feel like your insecurities are slowly fading into back round. When it is finally your turn to get in Jungkook hands your ticket for the man by the door. The lobby is full of excited people who are wearing merchandises of their favorite team. You frown when you notice that you and Jungkook are almost only ones who isn't wearing colors of their team. ''Don't worry. I left all my fan goods at home so I wouldn't ruin the surprise for you. If you like we can by something to support our team.'' Jungkook tells when he notices your glances towards the other basketball fans. ''Really?'' You ask excited. ''Wait which one of them we are supporting?'' You add soon awkwardly. Jungkook tells you the team's name and you head into line where you can buy items to support your choice. Jungkook buys scarf for you and pennant for himself even when you insisted that you could pay yourself. When you are done Jungkook lead you to your seats which are located right in front row. The noise of fans cheering for their favorite teams is deafening. ''Wow, I think that I have never had this good seats in any event.'' You are thrilled. ''Thanks for it belongs to my boss, as much as he can be ass sometimes he is good with his bonuses.'' Jungkook rubs his head awkwardly while blushing. ''Aww, you are so cute.'' You coo and his blush deepens. Jungkook coughs and changes the subject. ''There is about fifteen minutes before the game begins. I was thinking that we could go buy something to eat when half time comes. I know that hot dogs aren't the most fancy food, but I hope it is okay.'' ''Hot dogs sounds fine.'' You assure Jungkook. The audience has finally found their seats and chanting to their teams to come out. The stand darkens and loud music begins to play. Spotlights sweep on the ground when the teams come out followed by loud cheers. Even you and Jungkook join the screaming mass. You don't know what you had hoped for your first date, but you were pleasantly surprised for Jungkook's choice. A Judge blows the whistle and the game begins. The game pulls you's and Jungkook's attention completely and you cheer and boo in all the right parts. Even one point when the opposite team makes a score you both scream with red faces. You are having so much fun that you forgot to be nervous. Finally the half time comes and you and Jungkook head for the food stand. The line is long, but at least it moves fast. ''Do you know what you are going to get?'' You ask while standing on your tiptoes looking for pictures on top of the stand. There is basic hot dogs, sodas and other fast food options on display. ''I usually take the same thing, hot dog with spicy sauce and cucumber salad.'' Jungkook shrugs his shoulders. ''Maybe I should try it too.'' You agree and Jungkook grins widely to your words. ''I'm sure that you are gonna love it.'' Soon is your turn to order and you take bottles of coke with your food. You find free stand table and head towards it. You put your hot dog on the table and sip your drink. You take a first bite from your food and began to cough. Your mouth is on fire. ''This. Is. So. Hot.'' You wave your hand in front of your mouth even though it doesn't actually help you. ''Are you okay? Is it too spicy for you, I can get something else for you if you want...'' Jungkook frowns his brows worriedly. ''No, its okay. I was just surprised that all. I knew that the hot dog would be spicy, but not this spicy.'' You grin. Jungkook looks you insecure at first but his frown turns as smile when you keep assuring him. ''I'm glad that Jimin was right when he told me that you like basketball.'' Jungkook says and takes a bite from his food. You don't know how someone eating can turn you on. You look enchanted how his mouth moves when he chews his food or how his lips turn even redder caused by the spicy food. ''Y/N, did you hear what I said?'' Jungkook smirks, he surely had noticed your stare. You blush and clear your throat. ''I didn't know that he had told you about it.'' ''well I asked what kind of interests you have so I could plan an evening which you would enjoy.'' Jungkook tells shyly. You feel so happy, never has a guy gone so far that they would have tried to get to know you better, at least not intending to make sure that you are enjoying yourself. You smile widely and reach for Jungkook's hand which is resting on the table. ''Thank you.'' You smile gratefully. Atmosphere is changing from light and happy for something entirely different. You never knew that someone being thoughtful towards you could be huge turn on. ''Do you want to learn something new today?'' Jungkook asks his voice low. ''What you want to teach me?'' You are curious. Your first tough has that he wanted to tell something about basketball but his eyes were telling a different story. ''I will teach you how to kiss properly. I know that you kissed Jimin, but you both were drunk and I doubt that you did it correctly'' You feel heat rising inside of you when you quickly agree to his offer. Jungkook leads you towards the restrooms and you look him surprised. When he sees your confused face he explains. ''Half time is over soon and everyone will be focused to the game so there wont be people hanging around the restroom.'' Indeed every person who you are passing by is hurrying back towards their seats. Jungkook pulls you inside of ladies room, which is empty for your luck, and heads into the furthest restroom booth.Luckily there isn't stalls where everyone could look under or even over if they were tall enough or standing on toilet seats. Instead the restroom was full of those small rooms where was small sink alongside of the toilet seat. Jungkook pushes you in gently and locks the door behind of him. The booth is small and you both are barely able to fit in at the same time. And still Jungkook is capable to spin you around and pull you to sit top of him on closed toilet seat. You are so close to him that you can hear his beating heart. You are glad to know that you aren't only one who is affected. ''So, what I do next?'' You finally break the heavy silence. Jungkook seems to shake himself from his thoughts before he answers. ''At first put your arms around my neck.'' You obey him fast, at least the first step is easy. ''Lean closer, good. Then tilt your head little on to other side and... well its best that I demonstrate the next part.'' Jungkook takes hold of your hips and tilts his head to opposite way which you are. Jungkook comes closer and the distance gets even smaller between you. Your hear is beating faster and your hands are getting sweaty. His breath smells like cherries when he finally kisses you. The kiss begins slow and Jungkook moves his lips softly against yours. You are insecure what to do at first but try to mimic his lips movements. You seem to be doing quite well when his hold on your waist tightens. Jungkook parts from you and looks you with indecipherable eyes. ''Second step is when I'm going to kiss you again, open your mouth slightly.'' Jungkook pushes his lips back to yours before you are able of answer. You can hear cheers of basketballs fans somewhere in far distance. You part your lips like Jungkook told and his pink tongue comes to explore your lips. He licks your lower lip and your breath hitch on your throat. For your surprise Jungkook's tongue slips inside of your mouth. Surely you know hot to kiss in theory, but still his actions caught you of guard. His tongue explores your mouth following your teeth and searching trough your mouths roof. You feel Jungkook hardening in his pants. You are first to pull away and look him with wide eyes. Sure you felt already hot and bothered, but Jungkook hardening under you came in shock.

''Don't worry we don't have to do anything to it. I would never force you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.'' He assures you when he sees your worried eyes. Jungkook pushes curl of hair, which has escaped from your ponytail, behind of your ear. Even though his face is hungry his movements are slow. ''Is there any other steps that I can learn about kissing?'' You ask shyly by Jungkook's surprise. ''You can always do the actions to your partner which I have taught you, but there is one another step we can try.'' His cheeks are covered in light tint when he says this. Opening bathroom door surprises you and soon nearby bathroom stall's door is shut. Someone is in the bathroom while you two are practicing kissing. You freeze and Jungkook notices your distress. ''Or we can stop here and return to watch the game. I believe that there is at least twenty minutes left.'' ''What the last step is?'' ''Are you sure? We can stop Y/N.'' Jungkook looks you worriedly. You are tired of not knowing anything and you don't surely want to stop on half way. ''I'm sure.'' You look back to Jungkook with so much of determination that he finally agrees. ''Last step is making out.'' He finally tells. You hear someone leaving the bathroom booth and washing their hands. ''How making out is different from kissing?'' ''Well Kisses can be quite innocent, but when it comes to making out it usually includes lot of touching. I'm not talking about gentle sweeps of other person's cheek, I'm talking about hot hands wandering along others body.'' Jungkook words makes heat rise to your face and you feel more than slightly turned on. ''I want to try that.'' You admit quietly. ''O-okay.''Jungkook is turning red as well. ''So basically we kiss like I did teach to you and touch each others bodies. If I make you uncomfortable at any point let me know.'' Soon you are kissing again and this time you follow Jungkook's lips with your tongue. He parts them gently and let's you take a lead. You slip your tongue into his mouth when his large hands starts to wander on your body. At first his actions are rather innocent and his hands move along your sides. You pet his neck hair with your fingers which are still dangled to his neck. You deepen the kiss and then Jungkook grins against your core. You gasp out loud but don't stop kissing him which Jungkook takes as a green light. He repeats his actions and soon his hands find hem of your shirt. His hands feel warm against your skin and you tighten your grip on his hair. Jungkook moans gently when you tuck his hair too hard by accident. Interesting that he has a hair pulling kink you note to yourself. Jungkook's had reaches higher and soon his fingers touches hem of your bra. You pull apart panting for air and you look each other breathing heavily.

''More.'' You demand filled with lust from the man. ''More what?'' Jungkook struggles little when he tries to find his voice. ''Touch me more.'' You pull himself again into another kiss. Jungkook obeys and soon he squeezes your breast top of your bra. Your hand begins to slide along his torso and small gargle sound leaves from his throat. Jungkooks free hand starts to wander towards your pants and when he is about to open the button of your pants loud cheering disturbs you. ''I'm so happy that we won.'' Cheerful female voice says and soon the bathroom is filled with chattering voices. You part away with wide eyes. The game must have ended.

Jimin is laughing his ass of to your story. ''So you had to wait basically and hour in small restroom booth until you were able to leave.'' ''It's not so funny. I was scared to death that someone will break in and find us in such situation.'' You sulk and poke your salad with your fork. You are at the theaters break room during your lunch break when Jimin has insisted that you tell him about your date. He had hear some details from Jungkook but he wanted still hear your version. Jimin leans closer to you and you can't help but glance towards his lips. ''So did you learn anything?'' He asks with low voice. You are sure that he knew but wanted you to admit it yourself. ''I learned proper way of kissing.'' You admit whispering. You and Jimin gain few curious stares from your coworkers when you are so close together but you both ignore them. ''I'm sure that there is going to be other thing to learn on your next dates.'' Jimin smirks and pulls away. ''Like what?'' You are curious. ''You'll see, you'll see.'' Jimin refuses to let anything on.

So, I just started to play Obey Me! Shall We Date

And well, I have thoughts

Im currently stuck on the first levels of lesson 5, so my knowledge of the plot is limited to that + some spoilers I accidentally got while going though the obey me! tag. Do I have a deep understanding of this game? No. Am I gonna rant anyway? Yeah. See me do another one of these soon after I play it some more, but for now, I need to put this out there:

First, mechanics-wise, the first thing on my mind was "Mr. Love from Hell", which is honestly not too far fetched. Maybe it's because I'm playing in my old ass tablet (I need a new phone, this thing ain't gonna survive 2020) but it's just so slow??? I've tried downloading full data, and it kinda helped, but still, it just annoys me so much! It's not crashing like crazy (cof cof Love Island The Game cof cof) but it could be better, it takes forever to get the itens to level up cards because it just ????????? takes forever for them to load???? anyone else got this problem or it's just my device? Anyway, that aside, I quite like it, if you played MLQC, it's pretty easy to manage, and while it takes a bit more of attention to win battles, I think that's a good thing. Getting shards has a been a bitch, like, I keep on suffering with the loading and my competitive ass wants to finish begginer's missions, and again I think Mr. Love has spoiled me. Also, someone please tell me how to level up skills, because I have no idea???

Now, moving on to the actual tea: what do I think of these boys?

Let's go in order, shall we:

So, I open the app and I see Lucifer in all his red and black glory, furry cape, Dom-Daddy, Big D Energy for days and go "Oh, Demon!Nobunaga, fun!". I'm immediately drawn to him beacause Nobu was my first ever otome guy and while I eventually grew out of the whole "this man is so controlling and sexy and dark" phase, nostalgia ya know? So, turns out the vibe I keep getting from Lucifer is more like all those dark-kinky-Jumin-Han-fanfics (as in, the only parts of Jumin Han that I hate) rather than Nobu? Idk man, this guy just seems shady?? They all do honestly but Lucifer is just plain scary. Dude, I know you've got the whole "most-powerful-oldest-control-freak" going for you but, like, can you chill?

Yet I can't really blame him, cause, Veronica (that's my MC's name) why, girl???? She be going up those stairs, and I'm just ??? Real talk, I'm kinda of a rule follower? I don't wanna make this guy mad, man, all I wanna do is hit on Satan (which we shall discuss soon) and see some family drama shenanigans. Lucifer says "don't go up those stairs" I'd be like "okay???" because up until now he hasn't given me a reason to not trust him (aside from being shady)??? But I have no choice but go talk to Belphegor (don't even get me started on this one) and I can just tell I'm gonna get in trouble for this. Could I not get there accidentally? Do I have to go there against Lucifer's direct orders? I don't think this is gonna go well, I just don't wanna get on his bad side hskshskshk

Lucifer's room, however, is everything to me, the deco is lovely (skeleton aside) and that bed, maaaannnn

Mammon started really annoying but he's been growing on me. I have a soft spot for dumb bitches like him, I guess? He just cracks me up? Not to be cheesy, but I like him as a friend? Maybe that'll change in the future, who knows, but for now that's how I see him, the best friend guy who is gonna be in love with you in every single route (read, Seven, but dumber). Can't wait for the angst. Looks wise I kind got him mixed with Solomon at some point (my dumbass though it was a bug) but all those Surprise Guest moments have me thinking he's way cuter than I gave him credit for at first.

I always feel bad for ratting him out to Lucifer, but boy, you and Veronica practically share one single brain cell, okay? I need to get my girl into Lucifer's good graces, I ain't about that troublemaker life

Levi is gonna be brief: No. He's not my type (otome or real life wise) and he annoys me. He reminded me a bit of Yoosung at first, and I'm trying to power though it like I did with him, but I can't. He keeps dragging me into his stuff and it's not cute, it makes me resent Levi. I'm not much of a tsundere enthusiast by nature, and I really don't like when they portray fans and gamers in this kinda "I'm weird, look at me I'm so weird and different" light ("have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? that's weird" jsjdndmsksjdnsmskdjnddm). It comes across (to me at least) as childish and dumb (not endearing dumb, like Mammon). Idk, maybe I'll change my mind? Don't come for me, Levi stans

Still. I haven't interacted much with him but I'm obsessed with this man. Let me date you, okay? You look like posh book-cat-candle super model I wish existed. Let's be petty together. Since I haven't been playing long I hope I don't end up regretting putting my heart and soul into loving you. I'm doing all kinds of jobs to get intimacy go up with him, because guyghbkhiugiygufgfydddyghvjgvjg I'm all about that soft dom energy he has going for him, it's basically everything I love about Jumin Ham, but less CEO and more cute-bookstore-guy. Ideally, Satan is 100% my type, even if not the usual otome route I take first. Also, he is the Avatar of Wrath, which, along with Pride, is my most prominent sin, so I might be projecting

Kay, so Asmo. Asmo gives me all the Shingen vibes but realistic Shingen. Like, of Shingen is all about worshiping his MC, Asmo looks like he wants to be worshiped himself. Not judging, tho. That thing he said about loving himself above all things, I feel like it was supposed to be shady but I kinda agree? He's onto something. All this self-sacrifing thing is so romanticized. Can't we all be in healthy non co-dependent relationships? Love yourselves, kids. Which is why, while I said Satan is my ideal type of man, in real life, most of the people I've been with are Asmos. That being said, that's why he doesn't really work as an otome LI for me (at least for now). I'm here to live a fantasy of dating demons, not to see my exes. He is tempting tho. Who doesn't want a friend to do face masks and fuck from time to time, no strings attached until, "oh no, we both caught feelings, whatever shall we do" and then have it end well? (can you tell I'm projecting? my therapist is gonna love this). Poor Asmo, it's not his fault. Darling I'm sure you'll turn out to be lovely

On Beel, not much. I'm not into him, at least for now. his personality so far is that he's hungry. So what, man. I'm not here for that either. I don't find food particularly fun or sexy, it's just here to keep us alive (unless it's sweets, sweets are the best, but I'm having to cut down on sweets so), so he's not doing much for me. Gotta wait for that character development I guess

And to end this rant, Belphegor. Bitch, I've seen you on my demon cards, don't you dare tell Veronica you're human. But she's a dumb hoe, my girl Veronica, so she just doesn't question it???? I swear, this girl. Shady doesn't even cut it with him. Sorry, you're telling me what to do? Dude, lol, you're lucky this is Veronica and not me, because I'd be out of there as soon as you started this bull about me doing pacts with demons to get your ass out of that room. Don't prey on my empathy, it pisses me off. Spoilers tell me he's like a human-hater or something? Boy, fuck you, okay? Am I going to end up loving him? Who knows. For now he can rot in that room for all I care

Anyway, that's pretty much my first impressions of this game. I'll be playing it for some more time, until I get up to date on lessons and story or until colleges comes to drag me to literal hell, whatever comes first

I finally saw the Endgame spoilers clip

*rubbing my grubby little hands together bc I love a good roast*

Welp, if it’s a roast you want, a roast you shall receive!

(Note: I think I spoke vaguely enough about everything big in the Clips below NOT to warrant an outright Spoilers tag, so I’m leaving it with just an Endgame Leaks tag and a ‘Read More’ line. Message me if you’ve a.) seen the Clips/gone scrolling for more info in the Spoilers tag and b.) think it’s more spoilery than I try to vague it to be, and I’ll tag it post haste)

Christ Almighty, the Clips just make everything look like an enormous MESS.

Thor looks just... awful. In every scene. LITERALLY EVERY SCENE HE’S IN IN THESE SPOILERIFIC CLIPS, HE LOOKS TERRIBLE. There isn’t a single one where he doesn’t look like a mess. Everyone else gets a glow-up (new hair, tattoos, freshly shaved) and looks put together in general (which is admittedly baffling - really, EVERYONE looks good in the face of mass genocide and failure to stop it from occurring?) but Thor decided to whip out his Big Lebowski cosplay at their big ‘save the world’ get-together... why??? (seriously Thor, was a shower too much to ask for?)

Now, if we’d had ANY inclination that anyone else looked rough aside from Tony and Nebula a la the stuck-in-space teaser trailers we saw originally, that would be one thing. Everyone there lost a loved one, everyone there has probably had to come to terms with the fact that they FAILED TO STOP THANOS when they were all right freakin’ there! NO ONE SHOULD LOOK 100% OKAY HERE. Show me dishevelment, poor coping mechanisms, show them having to struggle for weeks (maybe even MONTHS) after the events.

But nope! They are ALL in perfect health according to the trailers we’ve seen before. Even Tony, after nearly dying in space multiple times, just takes a bath and appears to be in fine health after getting back (with some bags under the eyes). Everyone’s perfectly fine, except for Thor (and maaaaaybe Hawkeye, who looks to have gone full-on Frank Miller Batman in his quest for vengeance, but still had time to get a mullet and some sweet sleeve tats in between!).

Nice.

This is a MASSIVE problem with the MCU as a whole, and has been for a while: their repeated attempts to gloss over and sweep consequences of mental trauma and illness away under the rug until it suits them for plot convenience or for comedy. You see this in the Thor sequels a LOT (Selvig being institutionalized for comedy after being possessed, Loki being kept in literal solitary confinement for roughly 2 years, Valkyrie’s PTSD and alcoholism played for laughs, mocking Loki’s suicide attempt from Thor 1 and the actual death he survived in Thor 2, ALL of Odin’s outright dickishness as a parent a la narcissistic parenting, Hela being imprisoned in isolation for literal CENTURIES), as well as anything to do with Tony Stark and his thought process (everything he does is pretty much as a result of the trauma he endures, and everyone in the Avengers just??? doesn’t recognize it??? and attacks him for it without going ‘hey, maybe he’s got PTSD’ or something???? what the hell, man). GOTG does a MUCH better job of it with Rocket and Nebula, but Mantis is left woefully unrealized (thought they do touch upon it briefly, and handle it with relative seriousness).

Either way, Thor concerns me a LOT, because he is the king of a very small group of Asgardian refugees (and given the scene that shows in the Clips, as well as the appearance of another Thor character later on, we KNOW there were multiple survivors), trying to find a new life on Midgard in the face of not one, not two, but THREE fcuking tragedies - the destruction of Asgard, Thanos’ attack on their ship, and the Snap. Why is he the way he is, in the location he’s in (which actually appears to be the apartment from Team Thor’s mockumentary)? He is the only semblance of leadership left for these people who have lost everything and he’s Like That. Where is a Thor stressed and fretting over being fully responsible for once in his life over the lives of his people, over what little remains of his kingdom? Where is a Thor struggling with guilt as he tries to build a new life for his people, struggling with rule and politics and trade? WHERE IS HE??? Bc right now, all I see is Chris Hemsworth auditioning for the remake of The Big Lebowski, having wandered onto the Avengers set instead of his audition location by mistake -_-

The scenes with Steve leave me absolutely baffled (and some of them just ooze cheese, and not in a great way), because how in the fcuk do we get to those?? His scenes feel the most disjointed here, bc they all have a similar vibe to his personality in Whedon’s Avenger movies. Kind of the ‘Boy Scout’ presentation, which is particularly odd in the aftermath of the Russo Fools’ two Cap movies and Infinity Fcuk Up, which made him more serious, less - bright? I can’t think of a good word for it rn. This is particularly highlighted in his big ‘save the world’ speech we hear - it feels kind of like an ‘okay team, time to save the world!’ speech, instead of something more serious. Is it to try to bring everyone’s hopes up? What else is missing here that we’re not seeing? Why does he feel like he’s back to this persona in light of all that’s happened? Is it to highlight how good and awesome he is in order to {SPOILER REDACTED} like we see in that final sequence? (Also, the imagery for SPOILER REDACTED, while meant to be badass and awesome, feels... kind of awkward, IMHO. Which is weird, bc I thought it would be more amazing and awesome. IDK, maybe I’m just super jaded with the MCU by now).

Carol Danvers’ scenes are actually pretty on point. She gets to be a badass in her fighting scenes and gets an awesome new look that pretty much only functions to further cement her Lesbian Status. The only way she would be more obviously a Lesbian is if her suit were in the colors of (one of) the Lesbian Pride flags and a Cyndi Lauper song was playing in the background (or maybe Joan Jett).

Hulk/Bruce Banner... I don’t even know how they’re going to swing this. Like, at all. I’m particularly baffled bc given how some of the scenes appear to be set early in the film, it resolves extremely quickly to get to that point, and after all the drama of Hulk not coming out in Infinity Fcuk Up, I just - who the fcuk knows at this point. Also, that one scene with the {SPOILER REDACTED} could be effective depending on how they set it up, but then... why exactly is he the one in the scene with the {SPOILER REDACTED} and not Carol or Thor, due to Obvious Plot Reasons?

Finally, Peter Parker. He’s adorable in his scenes, ‘nuff said.

Now, after seeing these scenes, I am left EXTREMELY CONCERNED for this movie’s tone. Granted, it was only 5 minutes of footage for a 3 hour movie. Quite clearly, there is a LOT we aren’t seeing. All the same though, it feels extremely disjointed. I know they’re trying to pull away from the dark and grim ending of Infinity War, but these clips make it all feel a little too casual, a little too ‘let’s go beat the bad guy!’ as opposed to ‘we have suffered a great failure and a great tragedy - as heroes, we MUST work to undo this for the sake of those we have lost, and everyone left alive who has lost the people they loved’. Idk, that may just be me on this one.

But you know the worst part of all of THIS? The worst part is that this is probably what we’re going to get on the release date. This isn’t a trailer Marvel released with deleted live-action scenes featuring minimal to no CGI, or sections clumsily edited over with explosion effects - this was a slew of scenes with a TON of special effects fully rendered in painstaking detail, recorded with a phone on its side in what looks like a movie theater, with foreign subtitles on the screen (I honestly don’t recognize the alphabet, but it might be Middle Eastern). That CGI is expensive and time-consuming as all hell to do, and considering how many of these scenes had it? Either they wasted a shit-ton of money on scenes they didn’t use (seriously, a number of them have Rocket in them, or Hulk - those aren’t the easiest characters to render, I would imagine), or these are in the movie, end of story.

Not to mention, TPTB clamped down on these Clips HARD - like, IMMEDIATELY - as opposed to the process behind deleting Reddit comments. The fast and heavy response from Marvel and the Russo Fools, COMPLETE WITH OFFICIAL TWEET LETTER, along with a Chris Evans tweet not to Spoil the Shit, was to chastise the ones who did (which is somewhat warranted here, given how extreme the security on leaks for Endgame have been).

This response, combined with the quality of the clips, and some of the plot threads that actually seem to be mentioned/referenced in the Lego sets, leads me to believe it’s real.

And I’m not really impressed.

On the flipside, I’m actually kind of relieved, knowing what I’m going into when I walk into the theater opening weekend. I’m not going to be completely shocked and horrified by what I see. This works well in breaking the ice, and also eases some of my anxiety on what to expect (bc I have had a LOT of it for this movie).

The downside to this is that at the end of the day, this is what 22 films ultimately amounted to. Something that feels a little too glib, a little too rushed. Something that doesn’t feel like it’s doing right by the characters who were left, and the characters we love (at least, not in full).

I understand that this is an insurmountable task - to bring to film, with limited time, a satisfying conclusion to so many characters. To arrange hundreds of people within thousands of hours on a set budget to bring this massive story, building for over ten years now, to a close that will resonate and sate with as many fans as possible. But I read fanfiction that does just that with less time, fewer moments, no budget - hell, there are 10k oneshots that rewrote Infinity Fcuk to make sense and treat the characters with the respect that they’ve earned over 20+ films.

This? Doesn’t feel like those.

I will happily admit, I am guesstimating a LOT here, based off of what essentially amounts to 3% of the movie (slightly more, depending on how long the credits are sans post-credit scenes, but still roughly 3%). There is a LOT that is missing, which could fill in these gaps successfully and make this whole post look completely pointless. If it does that, I will gleefully concede that it fooled us on this one. Maybe all of these scenes really ARE hoaxes (even if they were painstakingly subtitled in a foreign language and shown on a movie theater-size screen, but I digress).

But the framing of the scenes looks like it was meant to showcase what the movie would be as a whole, in terms of tone and what to expect. And from that, I’m not excited, or overjoyed. I’m just tired.

And I cannot WAIT for this all to be over, bc I’m fcuking exhausted just watching 5 minutes. Lord knows what 182 of them will leave me like in the end.

I just found an old notebook with some prose in it, from who knows when. I don’t remember writing it. It looks like my high school handwriting, I think. I don’t remember this at all.

Update: Beginning of senior year, I think. There’s a page later on with notes for TOK homework and to make a twitter account that was necessary for history (yes, really).

I’m...trying to wrap my head around what I apparently wrote, over several sessions by the look of it. It’s...horror-that much I can say. It’s got a similar atmosphere to some other horror I wrote. I have/had this tendency to write horror taking place in small apartments, with my writing putting heavy emphasis on little, normal environmental details like a train passing by or the heat rising off the sidewalk or a fan blowing loose papers around. Normal stuff that I could juxtapose with stuff that clearly wasn’t normal.

It’s...interesting. I don’t know where I was going with this. There’s one concept I wrote in middle school that I later turned into a full short story in high school that it kind of reminds me of, but it’s also entirely different. I almost want to re-visit this and that other story now.

Summary of what I can make of this story below. Triggers in tags.

There’s...I think a little girl named Clairice, and she lives with this guy named Yuri. Yuri is a young doctor, still finishing up medical school? And he apparently brought home a dead patient’s medical files.

When he’s gone, Clairice deadbolts the front door to read it. It belongs to a patient named Michelle Raymond. Yuri’s notes on her are uncharacteristically messy and haphazard.

Michelle had returned to the hospital a few hours after leaving, having been dismissed as having a mild skin irritation. Yuri’s hand print was on her arm but no one else except him could see it? Anyways it turned into a full-on rash, stomach cramps, and increased irritability. When she saw Yuri she fell into hysterics and tried to bite him. She got sent to the psych ward. Other creepy physical anomalies occurred, and they found some deep tissue wounds near where she initially complained about skin irritation. Yuri made a note about the coroner finding rust and fingernail pieces in the damaged tissue, but no blood-implying that Michelle died some times between her visit and Yuri bringing the file home. The file ended there. There’s a death certificate noting self-mutilation, asphyxiation, and internal bleeding.

Yuri comes home at some point, and at first just chats on about an anatomy test he’d struggled with that day while he makes coffee. A stray paper reveals Clairice’s snooping, and he sits down and explains the aftermath.

Yuri killed Michelle Raymond? She was displaying almost supernatural strength and flexibility and acting, as Yuri called it, ‘feral’, before breaking into a seizure. When he was trying to hold her down so she didn’t hurt herself, blood started coming out of...everywhere, and he couldn’t get a firm grip, and at some point just ended up strangling her. Like, there’s something missing here like high school me was implying but didn’t write, I guess.

Clairice and Yuri don’t speak for several days, during which time Yuri keeps weird hours and comes home smelling like rubbing alcohol. On Sunday, when she enters the living room, he very casually asks her a question:

“Clairice...How well do you remember your brother? Do you remember how he held your dead body?” And Clairice naturally starts to panic as he continues to ask her questions about when she was older than him, when she could talk, and...when she committed suicide. She tries to run but he grabs her. He has a knife. He says he promised on her brother’s grave that he wouldn’t harm her, and he’s sorry his words hurt her, but he needs her to do something and he needs her to hate him so that she can do it.

There’s...a really, really creepy vibe in this scene, and I’m trying to downplay it a little. I think it was meant to be like yandere-like romantic but I look back and my brain is like NOPE.

Anyways, implied flashback to explain that Clairice committed suicide when she was 15, after Yuri (who was 14) rejected her. And then, after she died...her next memory is 15 yo Yuri crying over her new body.

Now that I’m reading it a second time, I think that Yuri is 30 and Clairice is 20, because her reincarnated body was 5 and it’s been 15 years since. I hope I’m reading that right.

Cut back to the present, and Clairice and Yuri are preparing to do something she implies is either an operation or a ritual. Apparently Yuri has some kind of ‘touch’ and they need to figure out where it ends before they can continue.

So he moves an unlit match over his right hand, and at his palm it spontaneously lights and quickly consumes the match, which he throws on the tile before he burns his fingers. The tar that remains smells like ‘molasses and spoiled meat’. I have no idea how I came up with that scent, and I can’t fully imagine it, but just in concept it sounds bad. He keeps doing this up his arm, until at his elbow (on the eighth match) they stop combusting.

Long story short, he has Clairice cut off his entire right forearm.

Some kind of cut to Yuri explaining things in the living room. I guess he took care of the wound. He is exhausted but surprisingly calm as he explains what happen after she died.

Clairice had a brother, a college senior named Joseph. He adored his little sister, and after he found her body he called Yuri, cussed him out, and demanded he come over to move the body.

Except when Yuri got there, it was painfully clear that Joseph wasn’t going to hide the body. Joseph was going to try to bring her back to life.

I’m just gonna quote Yuri’s lines to finish this off:

“We...did things that night Clairice. Things I wouldn’t force anyone to do, things that still haunt me...And in order to bring you back, he cursed and killed himself. I tried to stop him-grab him-hold him back, and by doing so I ended up with (that) accursied hand. How could I face anyone after that, knowing I’d caused the death of one person and facilitated that of another?”

And that’s where it ends.

There’s...a lot to process there. Part of me feels like it was meant to fit into the world of the other horror story I wrote (a deserted-looking town where monsters beyond explaining wander freely and try to get to the people holed up in the buildings, who live and interact via a system of underground tunnels; it ended up getting a similar apartment-based story that went in an entirely opposite direction).

I guess Yuri’s cursed hand did something to Michelle Raymond that resulted in all the weird physical horror? How did her get through med school with a hand like that? Or did the curse just recently start acting up, and why?

Why are there never parents in my horror stories? It’s always like...a young man and a slightly younger woman. My best guess here is that Yuri couldn’t face Joseph and Clairice’s parents, who lost both their children in one night, so he ran away with her in order to keep his promise to Joseph?

Honestly I kinda want more of the story of 15yo Yuri trying to take care of a little girl (that used to be older than him and have a crush on him), and probably failing horribly, but apparently he somehow made it work well enough to get his GED (since I doubt he stayed in town) and then go to med school.

Also Clairice apparently couldn’t speak but he didn’t bother to try to learn/teach her sign language?

IDK I guess high school me had some stuff going on and expressing it frequently took the form of runaways, cramped apartments, and body horror (based on both stories and the whole concept of Harpy). Also shadow demons.

In depth analysis of Solo: a Star Wars Story

wow that title makes it look like this wasn’t just me rambling for 4 whole ass pages on word, but I wanted to give you guys all of my thoughts and reactions on the movie. All of the spoilers are going to be under the cut and I’ll continue to tag spoilers for solo for the next two weeks, so until JUNE 8TH so none of you are allowed to yell at me for spoiling the movie.

alright yall here we go im going to start with the plot and move into the characters the same way I did for tlj.

After coming out of this movie, it took me the entire ride home to process and think about whether I even liked it or not. When I got home, I had a two hour long conversation with my brother on the purpose of all of these movies rather than on what the movie is about because hes a fake fan and didn’t go see it last night. But anyway, after giving a brief synopsis with as little spoilers as possible, we kind of came to the consensus that this movie didn’t really matter, plot wise. It was kind of just made to sell tickets (even though they didn’t even sell tickets because there was no promo). Literally the whole movie was just an adventure that Han Solo went on, there was no real character arc, Han was the same person he was at the end as he was at the beginning, the only real development was him meeting chewie and lando and getting the millennium falcon. Did we really HAVE to see the kessel run, like yeah it was cool, but having the whole movie based around that? I feel like we were all kind of expecting more of a backstory, which is what it was kind of advertised as, and I think it would have been more effective, at least from a fan perspective, to have seen what Han’s life was when he was a child on Correlia. We still have no information on his parents, except for his dad was apparently a mechanic that wanted to be a pilot. We don’t know how he became orphaned or how he ended up with that fucking lizard monster thing, how he met Qi’ra, or how any of this affected him. I think they just started the movie at a bad spot, but that decision was made to maximize profit. I guess no casual movie goer would want to see han solo roughing it through some angst, but for people that are fully invested in star wars? It was just kind of a pointless action movie.

Other than that, it was a decent movie overall. I didn’t walk out of it pissed like I did with tlj, it kind of just made me feel nothing. Like I knew all this shit before, I didn’t need to see it in a two hour film. Him meeting chewie and lando, getting the falcon and doing the kessel run in 12 parsecs were things that were already established. There was nothing really spectacular about this movie it kind of just exists as a plot extender, rather than something that moves the plot forward or gives us major insights. I guess they can get away with it being useful to plot by the scene at the end that establishes to everyone that Darth Maul is still alive and fucking up the galaxy, but they could have just made their own damn darth maul movie, which is probably coming anyway based on that scene.

But now that I’ve dragged the movie enough, lets get into the characters because I have a lot to say. There were characters that I really liked, characters that had a lot of potential, and characters that I hated.

Lets start with han. I really liked him in this movie and I like the actor they got for him, I think he did a really great job showing han’s snark and egoism while also keeping his inner goodness and making sure the audience was sympathetic. As I said before, he didn’t really develop much as a character, he was born a scoundrel and stayed that way. His quest to do whatever he could to get home so he could save Qi’ra was something we all would have expected out of him. I did like that we were able to see his street smarts and ability to strategize more than we have in other movies. I guess we have a bit of development, in that he learns to be even less trusting than he already was at the beginning through all of the betrayals in the movie, but like …. He was already distrustful in the beginning from the life he had already lived. Also, this has nothing to do with what I was just saying but I just remembered, this is during the time of the empire. Didn’t the empire use cloned Stormtroopers as their infantry and navy with humans only being officers …………………… like correct me if im wrong, but im like 90% sure that’s right. Because the first order were the ones that used human Stormtroopers. And even so like, what are these infantry men even doing. Aren’t Stormtroopers the ones that have always invaded planets for the empire, these people weren’t wearing any type of armor or cohesive uniforms and I just remember being confused as fuck during this whole sequence. In a ‘this is a major plot hole’ kind of way. Were they running out of clones ?????? like just make more ???????????? like the whole reason they used clones was because using actual humans to do grunt work was barbaric and clones aren’t really seen as people. Also now that I’m thinking about it what happened to all of the clones once the war ended. I haven’t watched or read many of the side stories or books, so I don’t know if it’s just me that’s missing something, but idk having han join the empire as an infantryman just didn’t make sense to me. Also having an imperial officer be the one to give him his last name was just kind of yikes. Like they couldn’t have just had him come up with one himself in that moment. Whatever.

Now lets talk about Qi’ra aka fake bitch. I fucking hated her so much through this entire movie and not just because I called her fake leia in the lead up to it coming out (tell me han doesn’t have a type). Like what the hell honestly. She was the WORST. And its kind of sad because she really had the potential to be a better character, but it just did not happen. Like she was gone for three years and just happened to appear back at some sketch party? And the only explanation for it was “yeah ive been through some shit don’t ask.” And what killed me is that she just never fucking explained!!! Like han asked her multiple times to tell him what happened in the in-between time and they have this whole ass history, he was doing all this shit FOR YOU, and he doesn’t even get an explanation ???? at the very least give the viewers an explanation. Like I guess it was implied that she did some dark shit, slept her way to the top, killed a few people on the way there, but HOW ??? WHY ??? WHEN ???? how long has she been involved in this shit to be at the position she has and to be so changed by it? Her character was the one that changed the most, from being careful of people other than the one she trusted (han), but still having hope for a better life, to just being like fuck everyone, I’m here for me and I don’t care how many people I have to kill or betray to survive. But we never got that character development in the film so she just came off as a terrible human being. We never got the chance to be sympathetic for her, and tbh im about to get even more angry because this whole film was centered around M E N yes I said it im being that bitch right now because the women in this movie were paid DUST.

And on that note lets talk about fucking Val. Another character with so much potential that was just …………………. hnjdklsbckdsbcbsdlv. She was the literal embodiment of the angry black woman trope and it pissed me the fuck off. She was the one that refused to bend on bringing han into the group and continued to antagonize him the whole mission, which the audience obviously took as a damn joke because duh its han fucking solo. We all know that she’s wrong, but when everyone else jumped on board with han she stayed adamant in her position, making her the odd one out of the group. Every time she opened her damn mouth I got mad because she just kept putting han and chewie down and it was just so cringey because I knew that this would make her either a hated or a forgotten character. AND THEN SHE JUST FUCKING DIED. I was like oh ok, 20 minutes in and the whole squad is dead already god damn. Which brings me into my analysis of tobias.

I love woody harrelson and he did a great job but there were a few scenes that just annoyed me, one of them being after his squad dies. Like hes sad for like 5 seconds, punches han which is an understandable reaction considering the fact that it was his fault everyone died for no reason, and then hes just fine again? Like it was never brought up again that two people he was obviously very close to, especially Val, just died pointless deaths. Even the night before the mission he was like ‘yeah you got to get someone you can trust I got my girl val’ and then they kiss and im like oh ok theyre in love that’s cute we love representation of interracial couples, but then she dies and he never mentions her name again. He doesn’t even grieve for longer than 2 minutes ??? he gives han another chance even though this was 100000% his fault and everyone knows it ??? it was kind of like oh, ok why the fuck did we even do that, why did I have to watch all of this happen if there are no consequences. His character didn’t change at all throughout the movie either. He’s just as distrustful and self-centered as he was, he just has less friends now and he’s dead. He was a good fatherly/mentor-y figure for han throughout the movie, but that’s about it.

I don’t really have much to say about Lando other than the fact that Donald glover did a great job, but I really didn’t expect much else. B U T last week I reblogged a post about him confirming that lando was pan and in the tags I was like lol watch him still be in a het relationship and GUESS FUCKING WHAT. Like its as if they thought making him be in love with a robot that has a female voice, a female build, and people that address her with she/her pronouns would be enough for people to be like come on it’s a fucking robot they don’t have gender …. hsdakbckdsla and while we’re on this subject lets talk about L3 because her (it? I don’t even know) character probably made me the most angry while watching the movie.

L3 being like an advocate for droids was an obvious parallel to other civil rights movements like womens rights or even African American rights and the way it was handled made me so fucking angry. Everything the droid said was used as comic relief or made to be received as a joke because obviously shes talking about fucking robots. But honestly, let me get deep for a moment here, droids in the star wars universe ARE sentient. They have minds of their own and are put into the story like characters, but theyre treated as lesser because theyre not made of flesh and blood. I understand and identify with the things L3 was saying because she’s right, but through the whole movie it was made to be a joke, because you know droids don’t need rights theyre droids. But that was the same thing people in the fucking 60s were saying about black people we’re ‘just n******’ (im sorry I cant even type the word it makes me uncomfortable). And her revolutionary spirit mirrors that of women’s rights revolutionaries today. Being a black woman that’s involved in social justice in America, the characterization of L3 just made me upset because everyone was treating everything she said as a joke, and there was no rectification of it. After L3 died, there was no ‘hmmm maybe she was right maybe we should start thinking of droids more as people’ she was another wasted character whose only use was her navigation system when they could have taken a completely different route and addressed something that was actually wrong with the star wars universe rather than just enforcing it. And when she started to give the droids a mind of their own in the control room I knew it was going to dissolve into chaos and make a horrible situation because it was such a predictable moment that completely undermined social justice actions and it pissed me off.

I guess the plot twist that effys nest (is that how you spell her name? probably not it doesn’t really matter) and her squad were working with the revolution was cute. I deadass thought for a second she was gonna be like ‘what up tobias or should I call you DAD’ cause that would have been a 100% star wars thing to do. The bad guy was a generic bad guy so I really don’t have much to say about him. I loved the scenes between han and chewie which showed why they became so close.

This is really all I have to say about solo for know, nothing huge is coming to mind. Overall, it was a good movie if you’re not a fan, but kind of a wasted opportunity for everyone else. This movie had a lot of potential to deliver and im pretty disappointed that it didn’t. Tagged (by vague gesture of “if you wanna do it, TAG!”) by @biophilie like, 2 years ago, so I’m finally doing it. Rules: Choose any three fandoms and answer the questions, then tag 10 people you want to know better.

My Three Fandoms: Legend of Zelda, Tales of Symphonia DotNW, and One Piece since those 3 have taken up big chunks of my attention over the years. Would do Darkwood since it’s a current interest but since there are so few characters, it would make the meme here harder so... Darkwood will have to wait.

The first character you loved: LoZ: I was a slut for Link as a kid, TBF I liked most protagonists, but I liked Link a LOT. DotNW: I actually liked Ratatosk a lot at first because he was cool and mysterious and tough! My first impulse was really liking Richter’s design but the first character I loved/really liked based on gameplay and actual characterization was Ratatosk. One Piece: I really liked Red Haired Shanks and was sad when he didn’t really show up again for a LONG time.

The character you never expected to love so much: Loz: There’s a few so I’m gonna cheat a bit. In OoT and MM, Ruto and Skull Kid were just kind of characters that existed but I didn’t like much. Didn’t actively dislike them but didn’t really bother taking an interest in them. But I like them a lot more now, especially with how they’re characterized in “non-canon” material like the Manga and Hyrule Warriors. The only other character I can recall from the game series that I was surprised that I liked was Peatrice from Skyward Sword. At first it was just like “Oh, yeah, she’s just the girl who stores your items, whatever. She’s neat I guess.” But then she started changing. She got more cheerful when Link came around more and showed an interest in him and when she asked if he liked her I just couldn’t say no! And then she just became so obnoxiously bubbly and happy about it and I LOVED THAT SO MUCH. Unironically I ship Peatrice and SS Link because, like, Link and Zelda are great friends but they don’t interact much since Link has to try to save her and Zelda has goddess things to worry about. Peatrice is just always there and unlike Zelda who already has a good rapport with Link at the start of the game, you get to SEE Peatrice warming up to him and I am SO soft for that! SO SOFT! Actually, one more also from SS. Groose. He’s an obnoxious, selfish, gloating bastard man, but by the end of the game with all the changes he went through, he totally grew on me as a cool dude. Especially with how he and Impa got along. DotNW: Slight cheat here too since the character didn’t debut in the game but... Colette. I honestly didn’t like her that much in Symphonia. I just kind of viewed her as an object that motivated Lloyd for a while and the impetus for everything happening in the game and it wasn’t until the end of Symphonia that I really started thinking of her as more than just a ditz that Lloyd happens to like. I’m not really sure when it happened but I started really appreciating her after DotNW, and not really because of anything she did. I guess I just eventually noticed a lot of her finer points and all the ways she contributed and how her kindness is actually super refreshing and hopeful and how soft that is considering what she’d gone through. See also my next point on Nami because hooo boy I was kind of a shitlord kid and needed to get through some things... One Piece: Nami. I HAAAATED her when I was young. Partially because of internalized sexism (probably shit I learned from sexist media, my dad, and just the lack of trust I had for any girl that wasn’t my friend because of massive bullying as a kid, but I digress.) and partially because one of the biggest parts of Nami’s arc early on was her utter betrayal of the crew. Like, we find out WHY later, and obviously I TOTALLY get where she was coming from now and all but as a kid that was just UNCALLED FOR. I also HEAVILY viewed her as the “no fun allowed” type that was actively impeding my new fave, Luffy, from having all the fun he could want because that shit costs money and the money is HERS. As a broke Millenial, I now 10000000% get where Nami is coming from and her financial responsibility is honestly hella impressive because she absolutely DOES NOT withhold the treasure from the rest of the crew, she fucking BUDGETS it. In general, I tended to dislike a lot of leading females for being catty or killjoys or a lot of other things when honestly, they were just being completely normal humans. Glad I grew out of that shit because while Nami still isn’t my fave, she’s fucking amazing.

The character you relate to the most: Loz: It’s changed over the years. I relate to Ruto a lot more now because yo, I would also just fuck off into the gut of my people’s patron Deity if my dad was being a pain and trying to marry me off (okay, so this is Manga exclusive, sue me) and 10/10 would give a precious family heirloom to a cute boy that rescued me. But more than that, IDK, she’s just... a lil’ spoiled but in a cute way, a lil’ tomboyish, but overall, for a Princess, she’s just kind of doing her thing, she’s responsible when it matters. But for OoT, y’all KNOW Darunia is my patronus because DAYUM. Chunky but strong (I’m a wuss but shut up), Grumpy butt but cares about his people, actually totes a fun dude when he’s not stressed about a food crisis, says “fuck you” directly to a fucking evil asshole despite the consequences, treats a fucking 11 year old kid like a full human being (I do not agree with leveraging a kid to fucking fight a dragon but... Link could handle it so...) names his own kid after Link because why the fuck not, befriends anyone that does him a favor and treats them like family. Dude’s just got chill old man vibes and I dig that shit. 10/10 relate to just being a fat dude that is grumpy but also wants to befriend everyone. HOWEVER, I think my top tier relatable character is Midna from Twilight Princess because that bitch is just me. Cursed to be a hot bitch trapped in a cute chunky body (I am working on myself. XD) 10/10 spoiled and bitchy as fuck, cheeky lil’ asshole who’s actually very sweet, think’s Link is dumb but also cute, cares about her world but ALSO cares about Link’s world, a lil’ selfish but also HELLA selfless because she cared more about Link and Zelda than her own life and cared more about her people than her own safety because she just fucking WENT TO FIX THAT SHIT when Zant started causing trouble, even though she didn’t have to. She’s everything I am or aspire to be. 10/10 one of the best Zelda characters. DotNW: Hard to say. I identify a lot with aspects of Richter, Aster, and Emil. I don’t have a lot of self confidence and am a bit of a shy bean, lil’ grumpy, but also a complete goober and an idealist, 10/10 would walk into hell for someone I love without thinking twice and would make deals with demons to try to save someone I care about because I am a dumbass. I love the DotNW boys because the DotNW boys are me. One Piece: Chopper. I just really fucking vibe with the whole “nobody likes me EXCEPT HOLY SHIT SOME PEOPLE SOMEHOW LIKE ME, WHAT THE FUCK DID I DO TO DESERVE THAT?” thing he has going on, as well as the whole glutton for praise but telling people to shut up when they praise me thing he has. I for real wanted to be a doctor when I was younger BECAUSE of Chopper. I’m just a weird little bean that doesn’t fit in anywhere very well while also being a slut for praise and wanting to take care of others and help them because other people have cared for me. Low key also vibe with Usopp because dude absolutely gels with kids, is a huge fucking wuss but deals with it anyway, will literally fight someone over petty shit and then come back and fight side by side with his bud’s again.

The character you’d slap: LoZ: Mmmmm. Hard to say. Like, obvs the villains but IDK who else I’d really want to slap? Does it count if I want to slap Anjuu/the Cucco Lady but, like... gentle and on the butt and in a sexy way? IDK, man. I’d feel bad but maybe Slap Mido? He looks like a kid so I’d feel REALLY bad for it, but aren’t Kokiri literally just kids forever? Asshole could be 100 years old, man... Either way he’s kinda a brat. 10/10 would slap early-game Groose from Skyward Sword also, but I’d feel bad about it because he ends up being a decen guy later. Also would slap Ghirahim for being both sexy and evil. DotNW: Alice for deciding that “never being weak again” means treating everyone else like garbage, even though I 1000% get where she’s coming from. Richter for being a fucking dumbass and not asking for help and deciding that demons were a good option and manipulating a child older dude with a magic core was a great idea even though I would do the exact same thing in his shoes. Ratatosk for being a murderous prick and starting the whole thing even though I absolutely understand where he’s coming from and I would also probably accidentally smite someone if I was a fucking spirit and in a shit mood because the only thing I really cared about was fucking ripped away from me. Honestly, mostly just me slapping people that remind me of me for doing exactly what I would do. Sensible me slapping actual me because actual me is a fucking dumbass emotional bitch with violent tendencies. One Piece: The fucking villains, obviously, Dr. Hililuck/Hiriluck for being a fucking bastard in the manga, holy shit was he an asshole! And also FUCKING SANJI. Jesus fuck, I am not over the pervy shit he does, what a creep.

Three favourite characters (in order of preference): LoZ: This is gonna be REAL hard because I love a lot of characters so... Midna, Link, and Darunia? It’s hard man. I love a lot of characters SO MUCH and it’s really hard to pick faves! DotNW: Richter, Emil, Aster. Emil and Aster share the same level of favoritism, but Richter is my number one. One Piece: Chopper, Zoro, Luffy. I used to like Luffy way more than I do now, but he’s still a fucking dork and I still like him tons.

A character you liked at first but don’t anymore: LoZ: I can’t really think of any, but I guess the character I waffle on a bit is Malon. Sometimes she’s like “Heck yeah! FAVE!” and sometimes I’m like “Eh, she exists...” IDK, I really like most of the characters. DotNW: I used to like Zelos a lot, but not anymore. Yeah this is kinda cheating since he ALSO didn’t debut in DotNW, but he’s in it so... TBF I like him in DotNW BETTER than in the first Symphonia, but not as much as I used to like him overall. One Piece: Fucking Sanji. I used to like him before the creepy factor set in. What really hit home for me was the Thriller Bark arc where he outright says he wanted the power of invisibility to creep on girls. Fucking nasty. The womanizing thing was just a quirk before that. I don’t think I’m ever gonna be over it. So gross and creepy now knowing he actively thought about creeping on girls using a special power. I know guys say this is a common thing and just how dudes are but no. That’s fucking sick. It’s one thing to say “yeah, I want to oggle women because tiddies are sexy” or whatever. It’s another thing to say “I WANT TO SPY ON WOMEN WITHOUT THEM KNOWING SO I CAN SEE TIDDY.” and it’s a third thing to say that IN A WORLD WHERE IT IS PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE TO BE INVISIBLE that you WOULD USE THAT POWER TO STARE AT WOMEN WITHOUT THEM KNOWING.

Three otps: LoZ: Link and basically everyone, but let’s narrow that. Link and Zelda is a classic, Link and Ruto is a guilty pleasure, Link and Peatrice is the underdog ship that I dig a lot. @eth-real tagged me, so here we go???

1. Your Top 3 favorite warlords (in order)

Mitsuhide: This is absolutely no contest. I have loved him since I first saw his cut-out at AX. I love shady boys, and I love smart boys even more, so being smart and shady myself, I naturally fell in love with this man. (Plus like... hello? True Route Mitsuhide kills my feelings.)

Shingen: The only man in Ikemen Sengoku who is taller than me... weeps. I love his flirtatious nature though, tbh. I’m a sucker for flirts, especially tall... bara... flirts...

Kenshin: He may be crazy, but he’s so pretty. Plus he was hilarious (and honestly the light of my life) in Ieyasu’s route. I can’t wait to unlock that emotional angst.

2. Favorite moment in the game so far

Comedic: I loved that moment in Ieyasu’s route where they’re all having the war meeting, MC’s just chilling, waiting for it to be over, then Ieyasu just runs out and grabs her and Kenshin comes barreling out of the tent like “wAIT WHERE ARE YOU TAKING HER”. I seriously giggled, it was too much.

Serious: I thought a lot of Masamune’s serious scenes were a breath of fresh air, tbh. While I love his flirty, romantic, carefree shenanigans, I also love his views on life, death, and what his soldiers mean to him. I agree with a lot of what he said.

3. Who has the best hair?

Smh... no long-haired boys in IkeSen... I guess Mitsuhide? I love the color of it, and I want to violently ruffle it as a sneak-attack.

4. Which voice do you like the most?

Ooh... this is tough. I love Masamune’s voice because his slight lisp is the cutest thing, but I’m also a sucker for Mitushide’s... obviously... and Kenshin’s.

5. Who do you think you’re more compatible with?

Hm... this is tough. I feel like I can get along really well with Hideyoshi, but we’d try to out-mom each other. Mitsuhide is totally my boy though... and at least he uses his brain. I wouldn’t mind being homies with him, and watching all the other warlords act like idiots.

6. Which warlord appeals to your aesthetics?

Shingen.... and his princess treatment.... will be the end of me, I swear. I just... I really want to be spoiled by a large man? Especially a bara?? Oh my god???

7. Which relationship between the warlords is your favorite?

I love the dynamic between Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide tbh. Like, I love my boy, but when Hideyoshi punched him, I was like... yeah, you deserved that lmao

8. Which warlord makes you the most frustrated?

G o d, Ieyasu. Usually, I like tsundere guys, but he was such a sourpuss about everything I couldn’t deal. I like the embarrassed tsundere, not the “I hate everything” tsundere. Idk, his route was just generally unenjoyable for me lmao.

9. Who would you swear loyalty to; the Oda forces, the Uesugi-Takeda forces, or Third Party forces?

I’m gonna side with Hana on this one, and say Oda forces, so I can survive. (But idk... is ‘become a shrine maiden and be left alone’ an option?)

10. Do you prefer Romantic or Dramatic routes?

Romantic! I’m a sucker for sappy moments tbh

11. Which warlord would you want to enjoy a nice relaxing cup of tea with?

If by “relaxing”, you mean, “sitting back and silently judging the others while sipping our tea”... then definitely Mitsuhide. What can I say? I love an intellectual lmao.

12. Which warlord do you share your sense of humor with?

I’d like to think I’m sassy, and quick-witted like Mitsuhide, but tbh... I’m more like Masamune.

13. What kind of fashion would your three favorite lords wear in a modern AU?

GIVE ME SUITS OR GIVE ME DEATH!!

But seriously, make them look nice, and put-together, or it’s not even worth it.

A/N: I ship them so hard, guys. So hard. This is short, but it’s something! And may be continued? Idk. Anyway, thank @coldsaturn for corralling my tenses back into something that makes sense :) @heda-reyes, this is the fic I was talking about!

Echo had given her life to her people and her Queen, ever since she was a child. The Queen’s most trusted weapons had to be picked young, before they received their first scars, and raised away from the general population. Her childhood - as much as any Azgeda had one - her choices, and even the very skin on her bones, marked with the tattoos of foreigners, had been given to people that wouldn’t even recognize her.

She never regretted it. She was, after all, one of the greatest tools to keeping the glory of Azgeda alive. She would live a half-life, a life alien to those she calls her own, so that they may thrive. Echo was named well, a haunting fraction of the original sound, but integral to the original noise. She accepted her role, and even grew to love it. After all, she had never known anything other than serving her Queen and people.

And then her Queen had died in a loophole, of all things. A cruel exploitation of law and language, and Echo’s work for her had never seen the culmination it should have. She was the blade that had frayed a rope, so that an “accident” may occur, and it had snapped on the wrong person. She wanted vengeance for the woman who had shaped her, but in doing so, Queen Nia had instilled more than an obedience to royalty in her.

Azgeda above all.

So when the opportunity had showed itself for Azgeda to rise triumphant above all other in the Coalition, her Queen’s original goal realized, Echo had seized it with hard words and a sharp blade. She had taken a city in a heartbeat for a dying King and cast aside the shadows that had raised her, stepping into the light, her role as a spy and assassin sacrificed for her people as everything else in her life had been. Her people had remained in control of Polis, her King had woken up, and sometimes he even listened to her.

He wouldn’t, however, listen to her when it came to the grounds of combat. Pride, stupidity, “diplomacy”, whatever one called it, Echo found herself longing to creep through the streets of Polis and take protecting her King into her own hands. But those days were gone for her, too many people knew her, and they would assume her King had ordered her to kill for him, that he may avoid a fight. She couldn’t make him appear weak like that, so Echo sharpened her blades and worked herself into a brief, exhausted slumber the night before her King would die to an inferior warrior.

She was awakened with a blessing. One of her informants - just because she was no longer a spy didn’t mean that espionage was a lost art - gave her the best news she could have expected. The ambassador who was going to kill her King had been found dead in his dinner, no signs of a struggle. Most people were saying his heart stopped, a tragedy, but unavoidable. Echo’s people were singing a slightly different tune, of a cloaked figure stalking through the streets, and of a certain ambassador with a love for wine not requesting a second cup after the figure met with him.

So Echo had dressed herself for court, her leathers and furs unmistakably Azgeda. She would not wear the silks and cottons of the other tribes, would never risk being mistaken again. For the sake of disguising herself, she had given away her identity so many times. In her new role, she would proudly bear any sign of her people that she might.

She had whispered the information to her King, what the people were saying, and what she felt to be true. An assassin had saved him, but not one of his own. Someone with an eye to keeping him on the throne, and someone with enough disregard for his decisions to go against his orders. Echo watched the crowd as Roan had announced the public view, that the ambassador’s heart had stopped.

She cast her gaze over everyone as they bowed their heads and prayed, saw one of the Skaikru follow the traditions of the Kru as if she knew their rituals. The same Skaikru who had brought them the information, who mumbled something quiet to the right hand man of the ambassador who had died. As the woman - Octavia, Echo recalled, with more ties into Trikru than most - left the meeting prematurely, Echo wanted nothing more than to follow her. However, her role kept her posted next to her King, so Echo let her suspicions about Octavia simmer as she turned her attention to politics.

When she was finally dismissed from her duties for the day, Echo knew what she should do. Cast out her net of informants, gather intel on Octavia kom Skaikru, formulate a plan before approaching the potential assassin. She should see if she could use Octavia to her own means, potentially training her as Queen Nia had once trained Echo. The thought of imparting her knowledge, of finding another dedicated to the art as Echo had been, gave Echo such a thrill that she decided to cast out what “should” be done and sought out Octavia’s quarters on her own.

She didn’t knock when she arrived, simply opened the door and stepped purposefully into the room. She didn’t know what she was expecting exactly, perhaps Octavia mending a black cloak or sharpening a blade, but Echo felt a shade of disappointment when she stepped into an entirely empty room. There was hardly anything to distinguish it as inhabited, only a few sets of clothing carefully stacked. No weapons, and no black cloak to tie Octavia to the figure who had stopped the ambassador.

Echo considered leaving and returning to her original plan, but something about the look she had seen on Octavia’s face, about the sharpness in her eyes and the deadly strength in her spine, inspired her to stay. She didn’t want to learn about her from her informants. Echo wanted, for the first time in a long time, to go into a situation blind, as she had done in the first days of her missions. She had only her suspicions, her instincts, and her skill to rely on, and it invigorated Echo as politics never could.

So she sat on the bed of the Skaikru killer and waited, watching the door. For a while, she simply sat as still as only a spy could, and then Echo grew bored. She could have sat still longer, but Polis had spoiled her. Instead of exerting her will over her own body to remain motionless, she pulled one of her own blades, a small concealed weapon she had only used three times, and refined its already hair splitting edge.

Although Echo had been watching the door, she had been listening to the window behind her. If she was correct about Octavia, she had no reason to believe that she wouldn’t scale the outside of the tower from an adjacent room in order to avoid a potential ambush inside her door. The faintest breath of wind sighed through the window as it opened, and Echo smiled to herself. So she was right.

She listened to Octavia creep across the floor towards her, stealthy enough to avoid notice by anyone except, perhaps, another spy. Echo knew the first things she would teach Octavia, the way to shift your weight silently, and to vary the cadence of walking so that if your footsteps were heard, the wouldn’t be recognized as the sound of someone walking. She kept her eyes on her blade and waited until she heard Octavia pause, presumably to draw her own weapon to threaten Echo with, and then she turned the tables.

In the barest of moments, Echo stood and swept Octavia’s right leg from beneath her, assisting her in falling onto the bed. Working with the element of surprise, it took hardly any effort for Echo to pin Octavia’s limbs beneath her, knees on knees and one hand holding her wrists above her head. Just as Octavia began to struggle, far too late to make a difference, Echo held the small blade she’d been sharpening to her throat.

“Shhh,” Echo hushed her, and Octavia stilled at the feel of steel. “Are you ready to listen?”

Echo watched Octavia take three very deliberate breaths and mentally congratulated her. Controlling one’s instincts was hard, and for Octavia it would be harder still, given her upbringing. The Skaikru were weak, and Echo expected nothing less from Octavia. Perhaps she was on slightly better footing from her time as a Second, but she would still need a lot of work to learn skills Echo thought of as second nature.

“What do you want?” Octavia hissed, and Echo smiled down at her. Octavia could have called for guards, or raised her voice, but Echo knew that she was smart enough to know her allies were few in Polis.

“You killed the ambassador,” Echo commented, and for the first time actually noted the black cloak Octavia was wearing. She wondered if Octavia had taken another life tonight and felt a thrill of excitement. She liked this Skaikru, Echo decided.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Octavia raised her chin in defiance, pressing her neck into the blade in the process. A small red line appeared, but she didn’t flinch. Echo really liked her at that.

Echo leaned down closer, moving her mouth next to Octavia’s ear. If Octavia was afraid of Echo, or of the potential death she carried, she was hiding it well.

“Good,” Echo breathed in a whisper, and she pulled back to see Octavia’s brow furrow in confusion. She considered remaining in that position for the entirety of their conversation, quite enjoying the image of Octavia restrained below her, but after a moment, Echo sighed and released her, stepping back and standing in front of her.

Octavia sat up but didn’t stand, and she also didn’t check her neck for blood. No fear of injury or death, that boded well for what Echo had planned. Echo pulled a cloth from one of her many concealed pockets and wiped her blade before returning it to its sheath, and then, on a whim, wiped Octavia’s neck. She didn’t fail to see the almost concealed stutter of breath, and Echo filed that away for later consideration. Perhaps the Skaikru girl had interests that ran in tangent with her own.

“I can help you,” Echo said after straightening her back again. At a lack of reply from Octavia, she continued, “You know what I am.”

“I know what you were.”

The jab stung, and Echo restrained herself from striking Octavia for it. The Skaikru woman was right, Echo wasn’t a shadow anymore. But she could pass along her mantle, and she wouldn’t do that by denying Octavia the freedom to speak her mind to her mentor. Echo’s job had always come with a large range of freedoms.

“Then you know I can help you,” Echo responded, and she watched Octavia weigh the choice. She would have to trust the person who had betrayed her people, would have to set aside personal vendettas in order to pursue the life that called to her. Echo wondered, for a moment, if its hold on her was strong enough that she could make that call.

Octavia looked up at her and in that moment she was more fierce and beautiful than anything Echo had ever known.

“When do we start?”
