Ok I’ve caved and started reading the Higurashi manga bc I can’t do the visual novel. Maybe if it ever gives me a stronger sense of purpose but I’m on the third arc and rn the best characters are mion/shion and rika. I do not understand Rena and do not find her nor satoko compelling. Biggest weakness in comparison to Umineko rn is the anime bullshit that Umineko half drops half puts in a context where it’s more whatever (horrible skimpy playboy suits are given to demons instead of elementary school girls) (horny protag forced to flirt with demons who keep trying to kill him and think it’s funny) whereas Higurashi kind of only has the ‘punishment game’ going for it in these loops before it gets to the interesting Dam resistance stuff but the punishment game stuff isn’t very um. Funny or interesting. Like I get it they’re kids in a hamlet with literally nothing better to do but also does it have to be “cosplay as a sexy cat maid” every time “oh haha it’s funny bc keiichi wanted the girls in the sexy outfits but he lost so he must wear the sexy outfits, even though he’s a boy!” Like is it really that funny. I know. I’m putting up with it but it’s all this story can do until it decides to start being interesting

The second biggest failing in comparison to Umineko is that all of ep 1 is bad instead of like the first six hours. Sorry Rena I know you go into a dissociative mental state and commit horrible atrocities but when you aren’t doing that can you say anything other than ‘adowable’

#pls (without spoilers) tell me it gets better #I’m very curious I need to know what’s going on with the fucked up town #also I need to know what’s happening with the orphanage #also gonnna talk abt anime figure for a sec #but it’s interesting that Rena rika and satoko are the most prominent characters to get figures #like. I don’t even think mion has a modern figure which is really interesting to me bc she seems to be the most ‘focal’ important character #in these earlier chapters at least bc of her family #what happens to my evil girls!!! I must know #also I’m presuming ep 1 has a solution that doesn’t involve shion bc she wasn’t introduced then but u never know with this series!!

i don’t think I’ve gone outside in weeks.. but like. every day is an excessive heat warning or a bad air quality warning… what am I supposed to do 😭😭
