Teen Titans ramble: man... if I didn't go so hard for Robin and Starfire, and also genuinely love Raven and Beast Boy, I would really be able to get into the Robin and Raven ship. I remember thinking the same thing when reading TT fic as a kid - I'm bad at multishipping, but Robin and Raven have a great friendship and overall dynamic. I 100% get why people ship(ped) them.

Like, coming from the end of season four rn - Raven, who trusts very few people entirely, trusts Robin maybe more than anyone. Earlier this season I believe one of them even had a line about him knowing her better than anyone. He's the one she first told about Trigon and where she comes from. And like... Robin's extremely ride-or-die for all of his friends, but seeing how deeply he cares about Raven through this season is so good.

Idk. Maybe it's because he was raised and trained by a dramatic broody highly intelligent emo/goth, lmao - and actually, with that context in mind, it's easy to read their dynamic as one of a more familial nature. Robin being so protective of and compassionate to Raven because she reminds him of Bruce; because he comes to think of her like immediate family.

As much of a mixed bag as this cartoon is, in terms of how serious the plot is, it has some major strengths in its character dynamics and storylines when it is taking itself a bit more seriously. I kind of wish this specific canon delved deeper into the team's history, because I think I'd really like to see how Robin and Raven came to be as close as they are.

Chapter One : Sugar, I'm going down

Series summary : When Glenn Rhee comes into your life, you become convinced he's a guardian angel sent by your late best friend. You think he's your soulmate. But then he falls for the farmer's daughter, and you find that your own angel may be a little more blatant than expected; wings and all.

A/N : hello! im no stranger to the fanfiction community but this is my first time writing for daryl so be easy on me please lol. i have the whole series planned out so I hope somebody out there enjoys!

The plan. What was it? What was the plan? You can't remember. You can't think. The blood is fresh and sticky and it pools in your hands. Bitter and metallic and filling your lungs. She gurgles, her head in your lap. More blood slips from her lips, running a path down her cheek. Somewhere distant, far off in your mind, you're aware it's leaking through your jeans. Warm on your thigh.

Her hand reaches to your jaw, trying to grasp it weakly. All you can manage is a shaky breath, closing your eyes.

Thump.

You know there's one left. Somewhere among the shelves. You just can't care. Let death take you. Let that thing pull you into it's cold grasp and sink it's rotting teeth into you.

You smell it first. The putrid rot overpowering the fresh metal of your best friends blood. And then you hear it too. The lazy shuffling of it's feet. That's when her hand grasps you harder. She can't speak but you know she's pleading. 'Save yourself'.

When it's close enough for it's ragged pant leg to brush your ankle, your body tenses. It's uncontrolled. You want this, but it will be painful. Your breath catches in your lungs, anticipating, awaiting.

But it never comes. And when the body slumps to the ground heftily, her hand slips from your jaw. Your eyes snap open.

That's the first time you see him. All clammy skin, panicked eyes, and splattered blood over his white T-shirt. "Come on, we gotta go!" He ushers. And he must see your eyes flicker to the limp body in your lap. "She's--She's gone. I'm sorry." Yes. She's gone. But somewhere in your soul, you find yourself believing that she sent him. You never were terribly spiritual or faithful; But in this case you hang on, desperately, to the concept. That, as she left this world, she gave you a gift. To keep you going.

And so you do.

"And that is how I met Glenn." You finish your recounting, though this version was much less detailed and much more comical. You wouldn't want to cry on the boat. Andrea told you it scares the fish.

Amy giggles and Andrea scoffs. "You? Some damsel in distress?" Andrea says, peering up at you while she tightens her knot. "I would think you're too stubborn for that."

You huff. "Yeah, well, things were different back then." You playfully defend, debating splashing her. Surely *that* would scare the fish though.

"Can't have been that different a month ago!" Amy chimes in. If the sudden end of the world taught you anything, it was that a *lot* could change in a month.

"Last time I join you guys out here!" You tease.

When you three return back to camp, Andrea and Amy garner various cheers over their impressive catches, though it's not enough for everyone to eat tonight. You, you're happy enough with your one minnow. Gotta start somewhere.

You dump your single fish by the fire, where the Dixon brothers sit. "Fishin' ain't your thing, huh, sugar?" Merle drawls. You pay him no mind, only sending a quick nod to the younger brother before strolling away. Merle was nothing but trouble. Crude words and cruder actions. Daryl, though, was nice enough. Quiet. He never seemed to say much to anyone but his brother. In your opinion, his value to the group was nearly unmatched. Most of the food in camp was provided by him.

You spot Glenn by the RV, chatting up Dale as per usual. Those two had an admirable student/mentor relationship. Raising your hand to block the beating Georgia sun from your eyes, you walk to join them. Glenn grins when he sees you approaching. It makes your chest warm. "Hey, guys." You call.

"Hey! We were just talking about you." Glenn says. Your insides feel like they do a somersault. They were talking about you? Stuck somewhere between honored and worried.

You chance a look at Dale. The older man always seemed to wear his heart on his sleeve. Wide eyes telling his wise tales for him. He seemed casual now. "Do I wanna know?" You joke, leaning into the side of the RV. Glenn puts his hands in his pockets, rocking on the balls of his feet as he so often does. You find it cute.

"Just another run in Atlanta. Shane wants a bigger haul though. Not just you and me this time." You and Glenn had been scavenging partners since the day he first found you, only a couple weeks in. It was just easy with him. While it was important to be compatible in the ways of scavenging and fighting, you found it even more valuable to be compatible in that human way. Humor, connection. It was difficult to go on runs with people you didn't much talk to. Tension with your partner led to being distracted.

But of course, Shane wasn't satisfied. He never quite was. No matter how many trips to the woods he took with Lori. You scoffed at the thought. "Well, is Shane gonna do some of the dirty work himself?" You ask.

Truthfully, in the time you'd been in camp, you felt Shane didn't contribute much at all. The women were set to cooking and laundry. The Dixons were to hunt. You and Glenn to scavenge. And Shane to reap the benefits while ordering everyone around.

Glenn laughed. "Course not. Shane is king of the swamp!" That earns a huff out of Dale. He shakes his head in amusement before stepping into the RV and shutting the door behind him.

In his absence, Glenn filled you in on the plans.

"Merle? Seriously?" You roll your eyes. The idea of being anywhere near Merle for longer than ten minutes was enough to make you rip your hair out of your scalp. Why couldn't it have been the more respectable Dixon?

Glenn shrugs, his eyebrows raised with a similar look of displeasure. "He volunteered."

Trudging back to your tent that night, your legs felt like lead. You must just be tired from all the time in the sweltering Georgia heat. The act of laying on your cot made your head spin, spots rolling over your vision. Figuring you'd need rest for the run tomorrow, you decided to try sleeping immediately. No reading or journaling tonight.

You drifted off without even realizing. When you awoke a few hours later, a thin sheen of sweat covering your body, you couldn't remember falling asleep at all. Disoriented, you stood up. The world spun for a few moments as you stumbled out into the cool night air. The dry breeze brushing over your damp skin brought goosebumps onto your arms.

Something was definitely wrong. You could feel your legs trembling under you as you walked towards the communal area. The water was kept there. Maybe you were dehydrated. Finally reaching the stash of bottled water, you collapse onto your knees. The plastic crinkles loudly as you try to open one. With your weakened, shaking arms, you find that you can't manage.

"The hell 're you doin'?" Any other day and the sudden gruff voice would've scared the shit out of you. In your dazed state, though, you only manage to look towards Daryl. You must look like hell with the way his face blanches when he sees you. The moonlight does you no favors, exaggerating the shine of sweat on your skin. Your color is off too, two shades too light. He can see your hands trembling where they hold the water bottle. "Ya bit?" He asks.

You shake your head, clearing your throat. "I don't know what's wrong. I don't..." You trail off, voice going weak. At the confirmation that you're not infected, Daryl draws closer. His boots crunch over the drying leaves and damp soil. You wonder if he'd gone to sleep at all, given that he's fully dressed. You swallow. "...feel right." You finally manage to finish.

Daryl crouches in front of you, reaching his hand to brush your forehead. The contact seems more uncomfortable for him than you. He draws his hand back quickly, like the act of touching you is painful. "Ain't got a fever," He grabs the water bottle from you roughly, opening it easily before passing it back. "Yer right though, somethin' ain't right with ya. Im'a get Shane."

Before he can walk away, you grab his wrist. He jumps at your touch, whipping his arm out of your grip. You pay it no mind. "Not Shane. Get Carol, please." You plead, staring up at him. He hesitates before giving you one single nod, trudging off in the direction of Carol and Ed's tent. You sip your water while you wait. Part of you worries that Ed will be mad if he's woken, but you know he's probably too piss-drunk to wake to anything.

Carol's always made you feel safe. You wish you could do the same for her. Most days you find yourself wishing you could simply will Ed out of existence. Instead, you do your best to offer her and Sophia small comforts; a nice pair of earrings for Carol, a new doll for Sophia. Throughout your time in camp, you'd grown to see Carol as a sort of motherly figure. She looked out for you, and you, her.

Before long, Carol and Daryl are jogging up to you. Carol crouches down with you while Daryl hangs back, chewing the side of his thumb. He seems like he doesn't know whether he should stay or go. Carol's cold hands caress your cheeks and forehead, examining the clammy skin for sighs of fever surely. "You okay?" She softly murmurs, giving your cheek a soft pat before pulling her hands back.

"I just feel sort of--dazed? Sweaty and shaky too." You explain to the best of your abilities. Something about the way Daryl was looking at you from behind Carol made you nervous. You pick at the drying leaves on the floor around you, soil piling under your nails.

Carol nodded, pushing up onto her feet. She turned to Daryl, "She's probably low on sugar. None of us have had much to eat lately." She was meek around Daryl. Truthfully, she's meek around all the men at camp. Always careful to not raise her voice or make a joke.

Daryl just nodded, thumb still in mouth. Carol wandered off, muttering something about candybars in her tent. To your surprise, Daryl remained. You trailed your eyes up his body. When you met his eyes, he quickly averted his sight. "Ya ain't goin' on that run today." He says, tone leaving no room for argument. And just like that, he leaves you in the middle of camp, awaiting Carol's return.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

I started on Tumblr and I'm new to AO3 and have been too lazy to copy and paste all that LOL. I have 6 fics on AO3 and 65 on Tumblr, not counting individual series.

2. What is your total AO3 word count?

I'm........a little embarrassed to say lol. But it is 500,516. Oh chilleee, why though lmfaooooo. Listen, something unlocked in me with these fics and all these wonderful responses to my writing, okay?! I missed my teenage angsty fanfic years and I'm speedrunning through it for now okay?! Okay, I'll go hide now.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I started with Marvel but I've somehow morphed into a blog for gorgeous, gorgeous Black men who don't get nearly enough love. A sprinkling of white men. And a dash of Pedro and hopefully, Oscar because Moon Knight is my whole heart and I need him biblically.

Runaway Lover, Part 1 : I did not expect to turn this into a mini-series, but here we are LOL. I can't deny ya'll nothing! This definitely stretched some muscles for me and I enjoyed challenging myself. Probably one of the few fics I just let flow and stopped berating myself for how long it was.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Absolutely! I love engaging with people and every single comment fills me with so much joy. I make every effort to respond to comments!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

OOF, the most??? Probably.....Through the Fire with Franklin Saint. That one still hurts ME to this day LOL.

Jeez, all my endings are pretty happy?? I can't really single any one out for being the most happy. I like happy couples round here.

Nope (and I knocked on wood). Thankfully everyone has been really kind and sweet about my work. It overwhelms me every single time.

9. Do you write smut?

All day, every day. I am a whore disguised as a barely functioning member of society LOL. I am a whore trapped in a slut wrapped up in a floosy. I am the slutty version of a Matryoshka, or Russian nesting dolls lmfaoooo.

Hmmmm, I haven't done any crazy crossovers yet. I should remedy that. That sounds like hella fun.

11. Have you ever have a fic stolen?

Nope, thank the LORDT. (I knocked on wood) Not that I've seen and no one has told me that it's been stolen. I take comfort in knowing that I am but a tiny island in the sea that is Tumblr and ain't nobody trynna steal my silly little stories. This is not an invitation, don't be an ass and steal. I will give you advice, I will teach you to write, I will read over your writing, whatever. Stealing is some basic bitch shit.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope, not that I know of. It'd be interesting to see someone try to translate nigga or half the shit I say LOL.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

I have not but that sounds interesting! I have a teensy *coughalotlikealotalot* control issue, so it'd be interesting to see if my writing style meshes well with someone else.

14. All time favorite ship?

OOOOOF, this is hard. I just don't vibe with a lot of ships. Because these writers always break them up anyway. I like SydCarmy and Kanthony at the moment.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I pretty much finish (shut up lol) all my fics. There's a lot that I want to write but nerves or time does not permit. I'd die to write some Frank Castle, Dean Winchester, Matthew Lillard, Benedict Bridgerton....basically the folks on my white men roster. But they get enough attention.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Strengths?????! You want me to praise myself?? Nerdie, how could you LOL. But ummm......I think I do well with dialogue and chemistry. I feel like each reader is uniquely situated for each fic. I can write a lot, like too much at times.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I like it and I respect it from other writers. Lends an extra layer of authenticity. But I do personally dislike when the translations are at the bottom of the fic. I'm not scrolling back and forth and by the time I get to the end, I done forgot what the hell it was supposed to be lol.

No, I shan't shut up about Once Upon a December LOL. It's my favorite dammit. It's a sweet, gothic, romance from Prince Bucky. Like he can be my prince any fuckin' day.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, though I missed quite a few when I was on hiatus. I love engaging with readers and seeing what in my stories struck their fancy. I've made some great friends over the years through comments on my fic.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? There are No Innocent Vampires (31K). This is a Scarry fic (both are adults). I do have a few others.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uh, most of them. But if forced to choose, Silver and Gold (70.6K) with Wolf!Draco!

Do you get hate on fics? OMG Yes. My first fic, Double Edged Sword in its earliest chapters was sporked on Deleterius. It’s a wonder I ever wrote again, but I was so pissed off at the Drarry writer who did it, I carried on. Thankfully the site went bye bye. And I also learned from that fic never ever have either Harry or Draco have an affair with Charlie Weasley. LOL. More currently, I just had to lock my current WIP this week because of a troll. ☹

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I write both slash and het but it's not my fav thing to do. I only put it in when it fits a scene and it can take me days and days to write that scene.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yes, twice. Doubled Edged Sword was brought over to FFN and Survival of the Species brought over to adultfanfiction. The latter was quite funny because someone opened an account using my name to post it.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes but now I'm sad. Almost all of my translated fics are gone. *sobs* The sites they were posted on no longer exist. However, my fav translations were done by Pescadora and her team at Intruders Slashzine. They translated the following in Spanish. What’s your all-time favourite ship? Drarry but I do write for other ships both slash and het and also Gen. I mainly read Drarry but also the others mentioned. I just really enjoy good plotty HP stories.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? After I finish my current WIP, The Azkaban Letters, (Drarry and Haphne) that I started in 2007, and finish another one I also started in 2007 at Christmas, I’ll be done with all WIPs I’ve posted on AO3.  I do have a few in my personal files. One, which I have 30K written for and it’s Scarry. It's the Scarry one I have my doubts about.

What are your writing strengths? Plot and world building. Some folks like my dialogue.  I try. 

What are your writing weaknesses? Well besides the smut already mentioned, character analysis and slow burn. Definitely more of action/adventure writer.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? No no no.  Did it once for Double Edged Sword. It was in Russian for which I had a translator or 3 write out the text for me and give me final approval. To this day I still get Russian readers disagreeing with the text.

First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter and still here.

Favourite fic you’ve written? This is hard, but for personal reasons, I’d have to say This Ain’t the Garden of Eden. It was the first story I wrote after an almost ten-year break. bitter, beloved, rebellious (3.9k words, one-shot, complete)

“Only call me Mary when it’s important. Then I’ll listen to only you.” As the war escalates, Sirius faces a future vastly different from the one he didn't mind living in.

commentary: this is a favourite of mine because it's one of the fics that made me teary while writing it. 50% is because it's macblack/blackdonald. the other 50% is made up of everything else i felt while writing it, like existential fear, grief, loss, mourning, all those good things. like, i distinctly remember thinking about this story while waiting for a bus. imagine getting teary-eyed while waiting for a bus, jesus christ lol.

lento con gran espressione (before the end) (2.6k words, one-shot, complete)

"This was what peace felt like, this quiet moment with nothing but the rain, tea, and both of them wrapped in each other." 1979. James and Lily spend a quiet Halloween night at home.

commentary: this is a thematic sequel to the first ever fic i "officially" (because i have posted things way back, like 2004, dksfjldksfjdfls but i deleted them out of self-doubt) posted in a03/ffnet. i guess with this fic, i'm happy with my descriptions, how self-contained it is, and the cosiness of autumn that has that undercurrent of hopelessness because of jily's situation. (sorry wow lololol)

water of the womb (6.3k words, one-shot series, complete)

Coalescence: verb. come together to form one mass or whole. Divaricate: verb. stretch or spread apart; diverge widely This short series is an exploration of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy—the choices they have made and what led to these choices. In Coalescence, Narcissa's past and present combine, focusing on her ultimate choice in the Second Wizarding War. In Divaricate, Andromeda's choice has led her back to the past… but would she be able to reconcile with it?

commentary: sorry i cheated a bit with the series, but i can't really self-rec one without the other. happy with the cohesiveness of these two fics, how (i think) i managed to present the tenuous connection between andromeda and narcissa. i like how i ended it as well because it was realistic and right, i feel. i was also proud of how i wrote teddy lupin and the golden trio kids, i think.

sillage (2.1k words, one-shot, complete)

On the day before his exhibition opened, V finds MC staring up at his work with tears in her eyes. It was a reaction he never saw before. So he approached her to find out why.

commentary: i'm proud of this purely because i managed to wrangle the huge philosophical and metaphorical story that is kim jihyun's in mystic messenger. even now i still get confused by some of the metaphors in his storyline. but anyway this fic was during my (still ongoing) phase of "justice for jihyun kim". because why does everyone get forgiveness and love except him? and i'm still super salty about things like saeran's after end and finally getting a kiss cg but not during gameplay, but after the fact, like as the game's app intro cg like sldkjflsdj nah dude, i ain't taking that as a win.

carry on, carry on (1.6k words, one-shot, complete)

"So whatever happens. No matter what the future has in store for us. You carry on, Dromeda. You carry on." Andromeda learns of Ted's death.

commentary: i just read this right now and... holy fucking jesus christ why is it so sad??? ahahaha. and my end note is "i hope you enjoy". uh. wow, i'm so sorry to those who read this way back. i guess i'm sorry to those who might read this in the future also. again, i like how this is self-contained. i said in my end notes that i've developed a strong curiosity for off-camera moments. and that's still true. one of my prouder moments is the letter because in ffnet you couldn't strikethrough (i don't know if that's still true now); so with strikethrough being allowed in ao3, i could properly write the letter and bring to life ted's obvious mistakes (read: honesty) when writing his "last" letter to andromeda.

I'm not saying no one should post stuff about being critical of a fandom/media/etc bc some critiques are interesting or worth discussing! If it's actually thoughtful and has a purpose other than you complaining for the sake of complaining.

What I do have a problem with is the number of posts that literally:

"I hate this certain thing because [insert something that they hate that isn't an ACTUAL criticism it's just something they personally hate with little actual claims behind it other than just not liking it]."

and then post it in the tag. I'm happy that they tag it [fandom] critical so I can block it but it just...WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS AN ACTUAL CRITICAL TAKE? It's just something you dislike about the media. It's okay to not like it but that's not a critical take. And you can post it (I ain't the fandom police) but like don't fucking call it critical when you just want to say something you don't like it. Maybe there is a better word for it (not exactly a hate post but it's not critical).

It does fit the description for critical in this image but I would associate actual criticism with number 2. I feel like if you just mix general judgments about a media and the actual analysis of why you are critical about a media, it muddies the water.

For example, and why I'm posting about it, I got back into Lore Olympus. I see a few posts with the tag lore olympus critical (think back to Steven Universe critical posts back in the day). I go, "ah ok...I'm sure these are more engaging than those steven universe posts haha"

and it's just someone complaining about not liking a particular aspect. Idk if it was meant as a joke post or not. Hell, I EVEN AGREE WITH THE POST! but I wouldn't call that being "critical" of the media I consume. I call that having a preference or an opinion.

A critical take would be maybe talking about how LO transforms many of the myths in the series and maybe not liking a few but having an actual point to the critical take. I remember everyone throwing up over the actual myth of Hades and Persephone and yea that's valid but at the end of the day LO is modernizing the myth. If you don't like that then don't consume the content. However, it's not wrong to have thoughtful criticism about it! I actually love the discussion about that bc it opens up on the topic of taking a pre-existing story/myth/etc and making it a totally different story. It's cool!

I don't know if there is a better way to tag those types of posts but I'm frustrated because I don't want to blacklist anything that has actual genuine criticism about a media I enjoy. Posts that are actual thoughtful criticism that will make me think rather than just make me annoyed. Even if I might agree with the preferences/opinions, I just feel like that shouldn't be labeled as actual criticism.

if you want, let me know what you think about this (in inbox pls so I can actually track and see it), I'm really curious! Especially if you were/are part of fandoms that you see this (ie: Steven Universe had a lot of these back in the day and now I see for Lore Olympus). I want to see if this is more than a pet peeve for me.

This might come as a shock to some, but Chara never had a Kill or be Killed mentality at any point in Undertale Canon. And Flowey would know this, because of their past. Remember, as long as you (the player) don't kill everything, they try to teach you that it's Kill or be Killed. So this will come into play during this series as a plot point. Error Chara: Breaking Barriers

Yeah, Reaper ain't to happy. It's not like they're BFF's with Error or anything, baka! Though they could be friends = 3=. It's more that there's a place in where Chara's can be Chara's. None of the B.S. from the other worlds. Just Chara's enjoy Tea, Flowers, and games. So by Core enforcing this rule, it makes it seem like any other AU in Reapers view. Where there's a higher being that dictates how everyone lives. And the 5 types of beings that Reaper highlights, Error isn't fond of, they share Reapers views on them. Although, now that Core is more or less the caretaker of The Void Oasis, they're taking extra precautions to make sure it stays safe. Welp, Error Chara is frustrated, and their faux face has worn off. Megaman Network Transmission final thoughts

(From someone who watched a playthrough instead of actually playing it lmao)

Despite my overall enthusiasm I can see why it's considered one of the weaker games, this definitely feels like something made to appeal to classic Megaman/X fans who might've felt too alienated by Battle Network's gameplay style

I know the main draw of the series is the Cyberworld, but compared to the mainline games where you also get to explore the real world, having any and all real-world events take place in Lan's bedroom (not even elsewhere in his house, only his room) feels cramped and sucks out a lot of the tension. Very much feels like a budgetary choice so the dev team could focus on the Cyberworld levels

The dialogue is a liiiiittle janky but it gets the point across

I'm sorry but Lan's 3D model is ugly. This is not my beautiful son

Some of the boss choices definitely felt a bit repetitive, but I liked the new navis like Quickman, Brightman, and Starman!! Also funny to see Bass pop up as a secret boss before he's been properly introduced to the story lol

Megaman trying to talk mean will never not be funny. This boy legally cannot say fuck

As repetitive as some things felt I will never not enjoy Lan and Megaman's allies coming together to help them during the climax

Professor is the Agent Stone to Wily's Dr. Eggman, you can't change my mind

I love Zero.EXE so so so much I would commit a felony for him

Really tho as simplistic as the story is, it still poses the interesting question of, "If data is not strictly good nor evil, is there such a thing as a good virus?" and I think it answered that pretty well with Zero. I was also pleasantly surprised by how his arc ended!! I was so convinced that Zero was going to have to sacrifice himself to save everyone from the Life Virus R, thus giving up the opportunity to be a real navi, but making peace with that if it meant keeping others safe and getting to feel happy that he could help. But nope!! Dr. Hikari just somehow made him into a real navi offscreen and now he gets to explore the Cyberworld!! It's a tad anticlimactic and I would've written it a little differently but hey I ain't complaining!!

The Life Virus R's design is also just as sick as the original, kinda reminded me of one of Lucemon's digivolutions

Idk how soon it'll happen, but when I eventually get to Battle Network 2, I'll actually be playing it for myself since I got the Legacy Collection for my birthday a while back!! In the meantime I'm gonna try to watch more of the anime when I can

When was the last time you were super excited for a book and it just… didn’t meet your expectations? I’m really struggling with a book I wanted to LOVE and am so bummed:(

Oh noes! I feel like it's been a while, because I either approach boks with zero expectations these days, or they're authors I'm super familiar with and so therefore they're pretty likely to hit with me.

I will say that The Forgotten Phantom by Kathryn Ann Kingsley didn't quite work for me. I super enjoyed her Tenebris series, and I think she will have many many more books that DO work for me. But this series is about giving famous horror figures happy endings, and while I'm so down to read the other books, this first one (about Erik of The Phantom of The Opera) wasn't for me. And that's on me as a reader, lol. I just think that she had to do a lot of work to make Erik fuckable. And I don't think I can see Erik as like... a non-pathetic cringe being. And if he's that, he can't be fuckable. But I don't want to read about someone who isn't fuckable. So. MY BAD.

I think that for me, the key is not forcing it. There have been times when a book super doesn't work for me, and I can feeeel that it's a mood thing. So I might come back to it later, maybe do an audiobook next time. But yeah, no point in trying if it ain't working at all.

What're some of your favorite books? What are you currently reading? I like to read to! My favorite series is Lemony Snicket's All the Wrong Questions series, and I'm currently reading Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson.

I listened to Night at the Opera all the way through, and I liked it a lot! It has so many different colors and styles, and it was a really interesting listen! I really liked You're My Best Friend (which is one of favorite Queen songs all around), Death on Two Legs, and '39. The vocal stacking in The Prophet's Song was really cool, and I can't even imagine how long it must have taken to record and mix all that. It's super cool that your grandparents are bringing records! Original pressings are always the best :D I think you giving me recs is a good idea haha there defiantly is a lot! I'll look at the greatest hits, and let you know!

My favorite bands/artists are Elton John and The Beatles! I had sort of the same experience with Elton in terms of getting into him. I was familiar with some of his stuff and then all of a sudden I was obsessed haha With The Beatles, I knew a little bit, but I got really into them after watching the Get Back documentary with my mom.

Honestly, don't worry about it. Last year we didn't have the tree up until about a week before Christmas 😂 I suppose I am technically a writer lol, although I haven't in a while. And you would be correct, I do love to read! Some of my favourite books are Flowers For Algernon, Good Omens, A Clockwork Orange, and 9 Billion Names of God. I like a lot of older sci-fi! Currently, I'm reading a book called The Mote in God's Eye. It's a really cool sci-fi book from 1974, it has a lot of amazing world building and politics in it. My dad has a huge collection of sci-fi he got in college in the 90s, and I'm really enjoying them! The cool thing is that he got a lot of them used, so the copy I'm currently reading is actually from 1974! :D

You're so right, there is a lot of variety in ANATO! That's something I like about Queen- because all the members had different writing styles and music tastes, their albums were really diverse! I love your song choices, I really like all of those. You're My Best Friend is a wonderful song- since you liked that, I'd say listen to You and I (it's on A Day at the Races). It was also written by John and is a bit more musically complex- I think it might be my favourite song from that album. Death on Two Legs is also a really good song. It has a lot of heavier rock elements, I think. For now, I recommend listening to Ogre Battle, Tie Your Mother Down, Modern Times Rock'n'Roll, Great King Rat, Flick of the Wrist, and Stone Cold Crazy. I'm so happy to hear you like '39! That's one of my favourite Queen songs of all time. Something I think is really interesting is that while Brian wrote a lot of Queen's heavier sounding rock songs, (in the 70s) he also fairly consistently had a sort of more quiet sounding song. Some of his more mellow ones are Some Day One Day, Long Away, Leaving Home Ain't Easy, Sail Away Sweet Sister, and All Dead All Dead. My apologies for giving you so many songs, although I do hope you find some you enjoy!

I haven't listened to too much Elton John music I must say. Some, of course, but I never really dived deeper into his discography. However, I do love The Beatles! I've been listening to them since I was very young, so I think some of their music also has that nostalgia factor. Funnily enough, I also watched Get Back with my mum! It was really interesting to see how all that happened.

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long, but I’ve just started reading ‘Accidents Will Happen’ - I’m only a few chapters in so far, but I’m loving it (I always adore your characterisation of Glinda).

What I really wanted to ask is would you ever consider writing a sequel or an epilogue of ‘The Princess of Oz’? That has to be one of my absolute favourite fanfics ever; literally everything about it was perfect, and, every time I re-read it, it’s as though I’m watching a period drama in my head.

I'm happy to hear that you're interested in AWH, but I can understand if it isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's nearly finished and I'd say a lot more people started reading it than managed to see it all the way though lol Which is fine. I'm mostly content with my choices. I guess it's a bit less mainstream. It certainly is not The Princess of Oz (or "PoO" as like to abbreviate it for convenience and giggles).

Thank you for your praise, it's very touching. I'm quite aware of the fact that PoO is a favourite among my works so far--as much as that can be said, since I myself ain't exactly a fan favourite lol. I guess it just struck the right balance between "well enough written" and "not too ambitious, difficult, abstract etc" I could improve on it for sure. The plot is mostly fine, except for the slightly unsatisfying ending, but the writing could be more polished. But it has a touch of commercial appeal to it, doesn't it?

Which leads me to: PoO was always meant to be part of a duology or even trilogy. I think I might have said that in my ANs? Not sure. Either way, that does go some way to explain the ending, I guess?

Well. This never happened. For millions of reasons. These days there is one particular one that stands out and unfortunately more or less forces me to give you a negative answer to your question. No, I do not plan on writing more for this series. Not as fanfiction that is.

The truth is, I've been scheming for years to make the jump from fanfiction to original fiction, to become a "proper" author. I know I'm not quite there yet, or at least nothing I published so far ever went through that rigorous polishing process. But it has been a dream, even though it's daunting. And I picked my project. It's an overhauled version of PoO and its never published sequels. As a trilogy.

Ambitious plan, I know, and most likely I'll crash and burn, but at least I'll be able to say I tried. It won't be just a case of "filing off the serial numbers". More like a new re-telling from what I remember the story to be, alongside with slightly more mature and thought-out elements. And sequels. It's all planned out in the macro scale. I just have to write it. I'll probably start early next year and I expect that the first book alone will take me about half a year to a year until it's ready for querying (sending it to agents). So I can't even console you with the fact that you would be able to read the original version soon if you're so inclined--it's a loooooong way till any of that gets published (if ever), especially if you're waiting for the sequels.

Ok. Sorry for bombarding you with such an essay, only to tell you no 😅 I guess I got a bit excited there.

I can't begin to express how excited I am to get such feedback and I hope you'll be able to enjoy AWH enough to at least temporarily forget your disappointment over the PoO sequels.

I was really, really into Doki Doki Literature Club, and I still adore it. I want the absolute best for the dokis because they are all wonderful people, love them, the children deserve a joyful life, yes, Monika, too. I've made extensive posts and even a fic explaining why I'd think that but honestly with a fandom this wide and varied I find a lot of people just accept a face value love or hate and don't bother digging deeper so I won't bore you, HELL, SHE AIN'T EVEN RELEVANT TO THIS FIC lol.

Fog and the Flame is still my favorite piece I've written so far. I like writing romance, I like exploring characters faults, worries, and offering them hope- and this had a lot of those things.

Is it perfect? Fuck no, I wrote it, ya dummy. But it's a fic that pushed me to research a LOT and rewrite a LOT and genuinely pour myself into the work because I wanted to do what I usually do in a piece (emphasize characterizations so that each character feels like who they are and not just one person talking to themselves- a weird basic mechanic of story telling to love but I love that so fuck man.) and I wanted to write my vision of a truly happy future for the dokis- primarily Natsuki and Yuri, in which their reality isn't shattered via our own.

As in it's one of those fics that doesn't include the game stuff, it's a "real world" all that jazz whatever.

But yeah, Fog and the Flame is a story that stands with me as my own personal happy ending to the story and it makes me feel good inside with the hope it offers :)

The other fic I wanted to ramble about is less intense, no worries.

The Author's Final Epilogue (ao3) (fan) -

TAFE is a post-true-ending tale for OneShot. A game with a modicum the size of an audience compared to DDLC, but a game deserving of plenty more :)

The gist is... well, that. Spoilers?

The true end has been acquired, Niko is home, and the world machine has decided to simply let the world keep running.

You follow Kip and George as they try to solve some lasting mysteries hidden around the world, namely, what was The Author's Final Epilogue- a series of notes and disjointed scribbles amidst various books he penned, and what does it have to do with the world, themselves, and the future?

Now I don't feel TAFE is my best work, I already said I enjoy Fog the most- but TAFE was a huge challenge in a different way.

I, quite simply, am a stickler for my favorite type of writing- and this one ain't a romance. I thought about writing a romance, but then I thought "No, you know what would be a happy ending-extension to OneShot? Another adventure."

So it's that! An adventure piece! And it has a couple nice highlights at that :P

When I think of Fog I think of a heartwarming care filled love story that I'm proud to have even tried to write. When I think of TAFE I think of all the excitement and challenge I found penning ideas a dozen times over and over and over again until I felt I had told the fun romp I wanted to and closed on a similar love letter to the game that inspired it :)

It's been 6 years :)

On March 30th, 2015 I decided I wanted a gaming side blog. (so we're early, but shush, it's the month for me)

I didn't know what I'd use it for exactly, but I had ideas- something I always have even if most of them only get as far as daydreamin' or writing out before closing them :P

For proof on the lack of direction the blog initially had- the March 30th date is the anniversary of my first post, an in-depth and lengthy review of Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC.

If you know the blog then you know "Extremely long and in-depth reviews" aren't the norm around here. As a matter of fact, that first post is the ONLY one I've done!

The closest I've come to ever repeating that would be the (word of the day) Directionless video I put out on Hades to get a grip on the concept of making videos, but that wasn't nearly as much of a 'review' as that first post is.

Tangent, definitely planning on trying my hand at videos some more for the foreseeable future. Probably not gonna use the tagline Full Impressions that I tossed as a whim for the Hades video but yeah- I'm excited to try my hand at a few videos :) tangent over.

It didn't take me long to come up with what I'd like to do for the blog though :)

A few months later I liveblogged a challenge run of FFT where I used only Ramza- a solo run. - Which maybe only happened because I tried a nuzlocke run a year prior on my main account-

Thanks to that haphazard liveblog experiment I started to realize a couple things which became the primary motivators behind this blog.

1) I LOVE sharing experiences. No brainer, I'm sure, but being able to share my experiences, and compare them with others' experiences, and just that mutual sharing is uplifting and feels good to do.

2) Liveblogging is an EXCEPTIONAL motivator to buckle down and play all those games I said I'd play (cue everyone laughing because I'm still way behind and have an immeasurable backlog).

But I mean that, on both respects. I have plenty of motivators toward the blog today, but if I were to be concise it's pretty much "It's easier to beat games if I liveblog them- otherwise I get distracted and play other games" and "I love sharing experiences and thoughts with people about my favorite thing- games."

Since 2015 I've tackled around 70 games as full playthroughs, and an untold ton as one offs or just to ramble about for a bit.

I've had a lot of highlights over the years, and I don't talk much about it as an overall experience so I thought for the anniversary I'd try to do just that. Not everything- I can't say I have photographic memory that would bring all of it up without prompting after all :P But whatever comes to mind as I browse some of my old stuff- as well as some thoughts on what I'd like to see in the future.

It's gonna be a bit self-centric I assume as I type this preamble to it, so let me say outright that this blog wouldn't be half of what it is without all the people who've given it the time of day over the years.

From recommending games they love or appreciate, to comparing thoughts, to offering kind words for analysis I've done over the years, to pointing out when I'm dumb and misread a situation :P- to, yes, even the people who decided "Fuck this guy's ramble" and deleted my captions before reblogging my gifs way back during Hamtaro (Of COURSE I remember that! It's amusing lol).

This is better because of others, because of the interactions and the people I've gotten the chance to chat with or befriend. It's just a liveblog more or less, my own little bit of fun I toss out for myself if for anyone- so seeing others enjoy this or that from the work I put into sharing my experiences or thoughts is always a joy in itself :)

Anyway, onto selfishly rambling about some tidbits of the past :)

This'll be disorganized as heck as I'll add to it over time before I feel it's worth posting (or the tumblr post editor becomes a hassle and more or less forces me to).

First~

FFT Solo Ramza Challenge: Considering it was roughly the first thing this blog has done, it's also something that's stuck in my head a lot more clearly than most of the other stuff I've done to be honest lol.

In truth, this is partially because FFT is my favorite game, bar none. But it's also because the whole experience was pretty new to me. Prior to it I had really only done one self-imposed-challenge that wasn't requested by the game in some manner and that was a nuzlocke run of Blue version.

So adding a challenge to my favorite game was a fantastic experience!

Notes I just wanted to say today about that run: If anyone enjoys FFT I honestly recommend giving it a shot for the unique story it lends itself to. I do recommend skipping the rules until after the second battle but that's up to YOU to decide.

My first post on the subject is me complaining about spending 4 hours grinding out the second fight and, despite hyperbole being my natural state, that was NOT hyperbole.

It DID take 60~ restarts to beat. It DID take 4 hours. The reason is that that 2nd battle is RNG as HECK, you HAVE to have Delita do some meaningful actions, you HAVE to have the enemies miss and make poor plays, you damn near HAVE to crit a few instances to save yourself from taking too much damage.

It's a numbers game to the extreme, so I wouldn't fault anyone for 'cheating' and skipping the 2nd fight for the ruleset lol.

The memory that stands out the most for that run is actually isolated in a post in which Ramza (Purrick in this run) talks like a total badass as just ONE DUDE running into a room full of enemies. I just think on that as a great encapsulated view of what it was like. The run started off face grindingly difficult, but because FFT is a game that offers so much freedom to the player it was extremely easy to 'break' the game into making Purrick overpowered as hell.

That's something I love about some tactical RPGs, I love having the ability to play smart so that I can play stupid later on, and breaking the game into making him one shot god is certainly a good payoff for playing smart early on :P

RetQuick: I miss RetQuick, it was primarily a short experiment I did in 2015 where I'd play a game for a short span of time (REALLY short, like 10-20 minutes) and record that for the purpose of making gifs and saying a short piece on what I thought.

It's one of those formats where the purpose was pretty shallow- but had a reason. I wanted to try making some gifs with some tools that existed online, so I made an excuse to do just that.

I also wanted to play a TON of games, usually through emulation on my sister's PSP, and this let me do that.

These two minor goals came together and so I spent a while making RetQuicks which were honestly more fun to make than they had any right to be. I mean the gifs were tedious but the playing? The thought sharing? The end product ocassionally having more appeal than just a photoset? It was fun.

I'm thinking whenever I have trouble picking a game for the blog I'll revisit the format... sorta.

I already reused it for a short stint to show clips I had no plan on expanding into a playthrough, but that died as well as it was too similar to Tidbits posts (another tag I no longer really use).

My thought is to rebrand retquick as something of a tryout for what game comes next. Play a handful of my backlog games for an hour or so each and say some thoughts before saying which one I'll continue as the main game for that period of time.

Old Tag Stuff: One of those things that only sticks to me since I made the decisions but it's always funny for me to look back on my old posts because I was apprehensive as hell toward making my posts visible. The reason my early playthroughs on the My-Tags page are variants of Ret instead of just "The name of the game so people can find this post" is because I felt like a liveblog would just spam the tag to hell-

Something I don't remotely feel bad for doing anymore.

So I avoided getting any sort of spotlight for quite a while on the blog for little reason.

Why Retphienix?: This is just a dumb thought I wanted to share and I'm sure I've said before.

It stands for retro!

Yeah!

Ain't that dumb and also not a real shorthand? lol

I think I have some sort of deer in headlights anxiety towards naming things, I mean do you think I think Full Impressions is a good summation for a video? I don't. But perhaps that's overshadowed by the other inexperiences and anxiety driven decisions that had- doesn't matter.

Retphienix is Retphienix because I sat there in 2015 and thought "Well... what do I name an alt account?"

My main is Redphienix, which yes, is ALSO a terrible name AND is misspelled. But it's that because of sentimental reasons. As a kid I misspelled Redphoenix when making my gamertag (I knew how to spell Phoenix back then as well, I was too excited about xbox live and misspelled it) and it's become something of a sentimental misspelling.

So I wanted to make a mix on that for my game blog, but I had no idea what. In the end I thought "RetroPhienix? I don't know. Retphienix is closer to Redphienix. I'll do that" and so it was done.

And just like how Redphienix is both bad and misspelled but exists because of sentimental reasons- Retphienix has acquired the same 'flavor' in my eye lol.

Aspirations for the blog: I have no immediate ramp up plans or road map or whatever, and in truth I'll be happy if the blog stays just as it is forever- up until tumblr ends- I cry over lost posts- and I reopen it on another platform.

But I do have blurry half-considered daydreams that I'd like to see happen for the blog through some hard work or shifts on my part.

One is something I'm already doing kinda, hence my embarrassing means of bringing it up a lot lately. Videos- I want those. I wanna make some looks back on series people don't talk about that I enjoy, I want to make videos sharing my thoughts on games I beat for the blog (like what full impressions kinda was, but I don't think they'll have a unified name from here on out). Maybe retrospectives, but mostly when I think of making a video tied to retphienix or me in general it's me looking at a game that said something to me, and saying it louder with my own interpretations on it.

You know the kind, videos where they talk about a video game but not the whole thing- just a singular message they really heard loud and clear from it intentionally or not. I dig those and I know I end a lot of games having plenty to say that could be directed into such a format.

We'll see.

And I'm along for the ride on that one as well- currently I'm keeping my eyes on whatever is directly next, which happens to be "I plan on playing Omori, if it clicks as something to talk about I would like to take a shot at that in a video too!"

The other is that I'd like to build a small community. Wouldn't know the first thing on doing that in a modern sense, but just a little online friend group to chat with and play games together. Something that could open up multiplayer and coop experiences being better shared on the blog and would just in general expand my gaming to what it used to be back on the 360 when I had a large group to play with.

Since the 360 era ended I've pretty much closed off- stopped playing competitive games due to lack of interest- and slowed down to playing all games either solo, with randoms (and no mic usually), or with my cousin. It's a rare instance when I play with some good people like @gamesception or another friend of mine, John.

When I diverted from playing competitive games nonstop toward other genres I didn't intend to also cut out all my online gaming buds, it just kinda happened, and I never really put any effort into rectifying that.

So more or less I'd like to one day sit down and work on a discord server, and then buck up and put the leg work in to make some gamin' buds again, but that's such a vague concept anymore.

Sounds all sad and what not but it's more ambivalent, I made decisions that

changed how gaming worked for me after the 360 and this is just where it landed for better and worse- I'd just like to see if I can make it a little better :P

General things I think when I think retphienix: Honestly? I think of how much fun I've had over the years and how thankful I am to have had an outlet that encouraged me to explore more of the medium.

I REALLY love games. I went to college for games, I've written LEAGUES about games, I've played countless games, my childhood was games, my adult life is games- games games games yada yada yada.

So when I think of retphienix I think of how without it I probably wouldn't have explored a lot of the corners of gaming that I have.

I genuinely, and I mean this, might not have sat down and beaten FF7 for myself and would have considered the amount I played as a kid to be enough.

I might not have played Chrono Trigger yet, and I KNOW I wouldn't have played Chrono Cross, and I'm happy as hell to have played both of those. CT was a mind blowing moment for me that showed me just how good an RPG can be, and CC gave me miles to think of in terms of innovating an RPG and how beholden to the narrative a sequel should be (I don't feel CC should have been chrono at all lol).

I DEFINITELY wouldn't have given New Vegas another chance. And I know I'm a sourpuss on NV, I've been that way since I maxed my achievements on the 360 for it, but replaying it really did reveal to me how exceedingly negative I was being.

My memories had become "It's brown and a boring location >:(" and "The factions all suck and it doesn't do anything with the idea of bad factions >:(" and became "It's... a little brown guys, not a big fan of the area" and "They didn't do enough with exploring the gray factions" while adding "Wait. This is pretty damn fun. And 90% of the additions are stellar. And I forgot about Dead Money, my favorite dlc in any game ever with a story that tears at my heart every time I think of it, NV good actually?"

Faxanadu would have remained a cool game I saw on SSFF and not a game I played to the end and fell in love with the aesthetic feel it has!

Also that's a game I cheated like crazy on lol, I would do it again! Save state scumming games meant to be rudely difficult is only fair :P

I probably would have never sat down to play through Windwaker which was such a positive and uplifting experience that I now get the most relaxed and warm feeling in my heart when I see those blue waves.

There's so many experiences I would have left on the table in favor of like... putting more hours into a live service title or something.

Maybe, and no offense to my cousin or anyone else playing it, but maybe I'd be no-lifing World of Warcraft nonstop just stagnating my interest toward the skinner box mechanics of an MMO?

Some offense, actually but lightheartedly lol.

But beyond the entire games I've played for the blog, when I think retphienix I picture all the time making gifs, all those games I played on the PSP for short stints, buying a retron 5 to add to what I could explore and being stoked when they shipped a freebie box of old controllers to go with it, getting angry at the retron for being a Piece Of Shit lol, crying at the end of damn near every game with an emotional story because I'm a big emotional mess of a person who finds investing and crying at a story way too easy thanks to empathy pulls, oh!-

Getting excited whenever I found that I had a "*controversial*" opinion that no one would care about lol. Like the one that comes to mind is that I thoroughly believe that Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza!! for the NES is WAY better than the fandom recognized and appreciated sequel/remake Dragon Ball Z: Legend of the Super Saiyan!

How many people do you hear talking about either game, let alone saying the NES game that is roughly half of the SNES remake is the better one :P But I stand by that! The SNES one is a remake of DBZ1 and 2 for the NES but it loses all the charm and some of the fun of the NES ones by being a lackluster SNES game!

I admitted wholeheartedly that this post would be a lit-

little directionless (gotta love the new tumblr poster making me break sentences like that), but to sum things up.

It's been 6 years. It's been an untold amount of work to be honest- liveblogging a game, at least for me, hasn't been the easiest thing. It's a lot of thinking out my thoughts (heh), it's a lot of learning tools to make the capturing process possible, it's a lot of experimenting, it's a lot of writing and editing, and, well, sometimes it's just tough.

I mean I went to school for coding, not video editing, not writing, not image processing, not this or that- but this hobby has introduced a lot of things even if only at a VERY base level (I admit fully to using online alternatives to make gifs for instance).

I learned a lot about, well, a lot of things in order to use this blog to learn more about games- and all that work has become part of why I've loved all 6 years of this blog.

6 years of gaming, work, and you all- and it's been worth the investment :) Here's to many more and all of you whether you stumble upon this post or not- literally anyone who's interacted in these 6 years, thank you, and anyone who hasn't I offer you well wishes as well.

INTERVIEW - SPINN

SPINN are quickly winning over a fan-base across the UK from locals in their hometowns in Liverpool where they grew up to now adoring teen girls and this comes as no surprise to anybody. They have the cheek yet optimism of a new band despite completing their final lineup only last year and will no doubt continue to roar through the UK music scene and gain an army of avid supporters in years to come. This month, the boys are embarking on a tour of the UK, playing a series of gigs up and down the country from Glasgow to Bristol. They finish the tour off on the 28th September back in their home-city of Liverpool (O2 Academy 2 Liverpool). They've impressively already managed to sell out three of their six dates and have recently announced that they have been signed to American label, anti fragile music. The thing that the band are chuffed about though? The fact that one of their songs, It's Not Getting Better, was played on Made in Chelsea earlier on this week.

SPINN have released eight songs so far, including a self-titled EP which was released in April of this year. Singles of their's include catchy 'It's Not Getting Better' which is a song that stays in your head for days after first hearing it's memorable lyrics ( "you know it's killing me being here, killing me, being here.”) and groovy guitar lines which resemble that of early work from Blossoms.

So, (currently) 180,000 monthly Spotify listeners, a UK tour this month with half of the dates sold out and a growing army of supporters, I had questions for Johnny from SPINN and these were his answers... Maybe I'm slightly biased, but I think that these are the best answers to an interview that I've ever read.

1. Was there a particular moment that you realised that SPINN were becoming popular?

I was once getting a meal deal in Tesco and I saw somebody walk in the shop wearing a SPINN teeshirt. I was absolutely buzzing that somebody was wearing some of our merch and later on they messaged our Instagram page and said they'd seen me but had been too scared to come up and say hello. The same thing happened to me when I saw Ex-Everton Winger Steven Pienaar in a different Tesco. That made me realise we were doing something right, I still think we've got a while to go before we can say we're properly popular though. Just got to keep working innit x

2. Away from making music and gigging, what are your favourite things to do together?

Honestly just knocking about with each other like we always have, is what we like to do. Usually it can be anything from just walking around the shops together to going on nights out and staying up till 8AM. Last week Louis had to stay at my flat and we spent the time going to Tesco and prank calling Sean.

This has been a very Tesco centric interview I'll try and steer away from that for the rest of it. Right that's besides the point, as long as we're still knocking about together and taking the piss out of each other, we'll enjoy it x

3. You're going on tour soon, do you each have an essential item you will take with you?

I try to bring a book of some sort for the drive currently, it's Nine Stories by J.D Salinger

Sean usually just brings himself, that leather jacket he's always got on. A spare bass guitar wouldn't go a miss either, though. Once he left his on the side of the motorway when we were on the way back from Derby, good times.

4. What/who are your major influences?

Collectively: The Drums, The Smiths, The La's, The Cure, Orange Juice, Ride, My Bloody Valentine.

Individually: Too many to list xoxo

5. Let’s fast forward five years from now, what do you see SPINN doing?

Ideally I'd like to get to the level of Wolf Alice or The 1975 are at now, that would be the dream. If we keep on working then I can see no reason why we can't get there, if we don't then that's fair enough, but we have to at least try! Anyway that's the dream, as long as we can make a living off the band and keep writing music that develops and matures with us then I'll be happy.

6. Do you have any pre-gig rituals?

I always have to go on stage last, I don't know why. At particularly big gigs we listen to 'I Am A God' by Kanye West before we go on, because it's such a good tune for getting hyped to. Other than that, apart from the odd bout of stage fright it's usually just a beer with the boiz before going on.  

7. How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

I think our songwriting has definitely improved. When we listen to our new stuff compared to our older songs, it's just in a different league, that only comes with experience though. I think that us touring has definitely helped us realise what is what in terms of song structures and live performances. So to answer the question properly, yeah we've got a lot better (even though we thought we were boss before when we weren't lol).

8. Can you describe each member of the band in under ten words?

Andy - A man who loves his haircut more than life itself.

Sean - Donned in a tight leather jacket he's often quite hungover.

Louis - A small man, usually asleep in his Aston Villa blanket.

Me (Johnny) - Taller than the other four, basically the god of dancing xoxo

9. How long have you been playing together? 

Louis joined about a year ago, but we've been a band for about 2 and a bit years. Saying that, I don't think we would be SPINN without Louis so therefore I'm gonna say a year.

10. What has been your favourite and least favourite venue to play so far?

My favourite was The Magnet in Liverpool. There's so many boss memories there but now it's been turned into one of those chain comedy clubs which is something that chips away at my soul every time I walk past.

My least favourite was The Sitwell Tavern in Derby. Everybody who came to see us was lovely and so were the other bands and the promoters Dominic (just wanted to make sure if they read this they know I had a boss time at the gig and in the chippy afterwards ;) ).

But, and it's a big but, the pub had fuck off massive "The S*n" flags up all over the gaff which frankly isn't something we like to see anywhere, as we think that that rag is scum, sorry not sorry.
