This is a little different from your usual content. But you have so much niche information that just I love to hear about. Do you have any podcast recommendations?
WHOO okay so I'm doing my nonfiction podcast recs and leaving out my horror or audio dramas but without further ado:
It's been out of production for years, but Caustic Soda is probably my favourite of all time. It's a small Canadian production of tons and tons of episodes on everything from shark attacks to murder to warfare to bugs and anthropology. It's so fucking funny and pretty well-researched as time goes on. Honestly, I was so young listening to this that it formed part of the lens through which I view the world.
Stuff You Missed in History Class: Often corny, wee bit lame, occasionally hilarious, always solid; this one is probably the one that has taught me the most. It's been on the air forever now, and it's really fucking great. They have also used sources that I actually dug out and made public for the first time and I'm quite proud of that. Its the favourite sweater of podcasts.
Time to Eat the Dogs is about the history of science and exploration. I highly recommend it if you like any of those things. I really like the host's interview style; all the guests are academics and authors. It's very conversational and feels like having a lovely sit-down with good friends, but those friends have Ph. Ds.
Casting Lots: Two really, really funny Brits discuss survival cannibalism across time and space. This podcast informed me that a story i heard as a fireside tale was based on true events. It somehow manages to mention Canada in every other episode and then some. I love the first three seasons in particular. They have truly done some incredible work in the course of their series and pulled from some primary sources that surprised even me, an actual archivist. They're shockingly respectful for how funny they are and how disturbing the content is and really take into consideration things like culture, empire, sex and racism as they discuss cannibalism, and it's just. I love it so much, truly.
Big Old Boats: It's not technically a podcast, but I've never once in my life actually watched the video as he discusses various maritime disasters, and I don't think I've ever missed anything by doing so. This is an absolute must-listen if you enjoy maritime history, missing ships, ghost ships, or just anything weird related to a boat. Archival work I did is actually mentioned in a couple of episodes!
Not What You Thought You Knew: Another podcast I really love that was, unfortunately, a very short run but academics and actual historians debunking popular historical myths. I am very, very fond of the episodes on The Night Witches in particular.
The Midnight Library: Last but not least my favourite fucking podcast currently running. It's a nonfiction podcast framed as a fictional witch/librarian in her cursed library telling (mostly) true stories around a particular theme, human vice, or any number of stories. And the way it's framed is so fucking great. Like they're talking about real history, witchcraft and folklore in so many of these, but you get little glimpses of world-building that have honestly started to bleed into the way I write. Even the ads are for fake magical businesses like 'the League of Lady Grave Diggers, the Broom and Fang pub. The library assistant/bouncer is a werewolf. The Witch's on-again and off-again boyfriend is a spring-heel jack. It's just so fucking clever a way to frame a nonfiction podcast in a spooky atmosphere while being historical, terrifying and funny in turns.
Anywho, if you listen to any of them let me know! And sorry if that went overboard!

Reading update

Just Like That by Cole McCade - 2/5 stars
So I started reading this age gap romance about two professors at a boys boarding school expecting it to be different than the last Cole McCade romance I read. It...wasn't. The emotions are turned up to 11 all the time, from the very first page, and that means there's nowhere emotionally to go. It also felt rushed and like the characters didn't really have room to breathe. So...I might retract what I said about the first Cole McCade novel I read needing to be shorter, because this one was shorter, and it didn't work.
Scattered Showers by Rainbow Rowell - 4/5 stars
Bought this for the SnowBaz story, ended up reading the whole thing and quite enjoying it. The SnowBaz story was definitely still the best though.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo - 4/5 stars
In my last reading update I said I wasn't going to read any my Leigh Bardugo books, totally forgetting this one was sitting very near the top of my TBR pile. I liked it a lot, but I have been informed that Hellbent involves a glowing, fully erect demon penis in multiple scenes (and not even for demon sex) soooo yeah. I think I'll give it a miss.
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles - 4.75/5 stars
Drama! by AJ Truman - 4.25/5 stars
Bloodline by Jordan L Hawk - 4.75/5 stars
Wanted, A Gentleman by KJ Charles - 5/5 stars
Oh I loved this one so much. I love when KJ Charles writes books with a twist because I never see them coming. And it's not like the clues aren't there. This is a super quick read but so good. I definitely could have read a full length novel about Martin and Theo.
The Klockwerk Kraken by Aidee Ladnier - 5/5 stars
You look at this book and you think, tentacle porn. And yeah, there's some sex with tentacles. But??? This book??? It kind of wrecked me. It's two connected novellas about trauma, healing, family, memory, love...really really good. Highly recommended.
Pack of Lies by Charlie Adhara - 5/5 stars
And then I read a werewolf book and loved it! Not that I expected to hate this or anything, but I definitely went into it feeling a bit iffy, because werewolves are really not my thing. This book is romantic suspense and really good, and I loved Julien and Eli so much. This is a spinoff of Adhara's other werewolf series, which I want to read, but it's only available as an ebook, and I don't do ebooks.
Seven Tears at High Tide by CB Lee - 4/5 stars
Cute little YA mermaid book. Mermaids also aren't my thing so I liked this more than I thought I would. Much better than Jason June's Out of the Blue, imo.
A Restless Truth by Freya Marske - 4.75/5 stars
Again, my toxic trait is I don't really enjoy reading books about women or f/f romances. But not surprisingly at all, this book was really good. Though, you know. I inhaled all references to Robin and Edwin (of which there were many) and was sorta/kinda more invested in the hints of romance between Hawthorn and Alan. Obvs excited for the third book.
The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths and Magic by FT Lukens - 3.5/5 stars
Just Like This by Cole McCade - DNF
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I put this one down before I got through chapter 2.
Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales - 5/5 stars
I tore through this book in a single day. It was SO funny and sweet. It's considered YA but quite honestly I'd call it New Adult. Or if you don't like New Adult, straight Adult. Sophie Gonzales is the author of one of my top reads of last year, but of course, since this is an f/f romance, I was wary. But ugh, so good. Highly recommend this one.
The Luminaries by Susan Dennard - 5/5 stars
Apparently the idea for this came from the author posting polls on twitter for what would happen next, which is...unspeakably lame, honestly. But the book that came out of it is great. Loved the world, loved Winnie and her family (especially her brother and his boyfriend).
Beguiled by Joanna Chambers - 5/5 stars
Loved the first one, loved this one more.
This Census-Taker by China Miéville - 3.25/5 stars
What was this even about? Pretty sure Miéville was high on peyote when he wrote this.
Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman - 3.75/5 stars
Picked this up because it was 20% off at Target and was actually pleasantly surprised by how much more adult it is than the series. Then of course started watching season 2 of the series and found it to be as sanitized as season 1.
The Henchman of Zenda - KJ Charles - 3.5/5 stars
He Bears the Cape of Stars from Duck Prints Press - 4.5/5 stars
Glitterland by Alexis Hall - 3.75/5 stars
This is a re-release of one of a novel Hall wrote like a decade ago. It's not a romcom (which I knew going in), but I didn't expect it to be quite so rough. Similar in ways to Paris Daillencourt is About to Crumble, only that was funnier. The fact that he wrote out the Essex accent really grated, but I guess it kind of made sense. My bigger issue with this book was the absolutely shit editing. There were repeated paragraphs, formatting issues, and places where it seemed like there had to be something missing because it made no sense.
The new edition is annotated by Hall, which was pretty fun. Not a bad read, but it's not Boyfriend Material.

Tag Peeps you want to get to know better!
Tagging: So....Everyone I would tag has already been tagged....If you see this and haven’t been, please, consider yourself tagged and go for it!
Favorite Color: I tend to go for red and black most of the time but have discovered a new and very specific color palette for the historical stuff I do on the weekend, Rust Orange, Bright Green, and Royal Purple. Very Halloween/ Fall.
Currently Reading: I have been terrible about making time to actually read lately. I tend to listen to books during my drive time for the most part. Currently listening to Crescent City (finally). Before that was the.....5th?.... re-listen of Throne of Glass. Easily one of my favorite series. Far better then ACOTAR, I will fight you.
Last Song: Little Girl Gone by Chinchilla. It is resonating so hard with my work life right now. A very good song to blast when you don’t want to come back from your lunch break to face it all again.
Last Movie (in theaters): Uh.......Its been a hot minute....my movie app says it was Violent Night but I feel like I have been since then. A delightful movie that gave a lot more then I expected based on the premise. There are so many good movies out right now I want to go see, sad face.
Last Series: I stumbled into Fire Country and am enjoying it so far. It’s your typical fire fighter drama show but I eat those up during my work day. Also been sucked into Yellow Jackets. Another surprisingly deep show that has some crazy turns to it. I would recommend it highly.
Craving: To be at home, playing Dredge on my Switch, probably smoking. T-Minus 5 hours until I can make that happen.
Tea or Coffee: Neither? I am one of those weirdos who has never liked coffee. I am all about the soda. There is almost always a pet cup of water and a soda following me about.
Currently Working On: Trying to get my main OC to talk to me again. I made her with a specific book universe in mind and now that that series has come to a weird place I am no longer enjoying I am having a hard time untangling her from it enough to keep working with her. Very annoying. Slowly trying to make a new werewolf OC to temp her back. Non-writing wise I am working on largess (gifties) for the historical group I am a part of. Lots of jeweler, baggies, anything we can use to fill out gift baskets our royals will give out at events and such. Going to be a busy summer.
Happy @grinningnexu? Thank you for the initial tag @aftergloom!  <3

🔥For Teen Wolf? (Movie or Series, whichever you prefer)
Tumblr media
Send me a “ 🔥 “ for an unpopular opinion.
Bonus points if you include a topic. ( IE. shipping, roleplaying, ect. )
Tumblr media
// *personally? i loved the movie. the cartoon also deserves some love and actually was pretty decent for an 80s cartoon! it got some laughs out of me and there were things that i thought were super cute and silly that would've been amazing for modern day. i still highly recommend it to people if they wanna watch something for fun.
// *however, its execution does need work. like, the movie especially could've been better if there weren't so many... things about it. like, mainly complications with Scott's werewolf curse? like how he could let it out at any given time without any repercussions. that didn't feel right with him as a chracter, though it did add to how quick he was to getting all of that attention.
// *however, his whole relationship with Pam was so one sided, i still dont know why they even kept him so interested in her when she herself is NOT a good person. even Mick, but they were still together? like, it was just so... so heavily one-sided, you can TELL who liked who, and it definitely wasn't Pam liking him for his personality.
// *also, the TV series can eat my fucking shorts. i can't stand a classic 80s movie being rewritten for teenage drama and wolf packs or whatever the fuck. i ALSO don't appreciate it when they take a side character and make HIM the main character, then tossing Scott, the actual main character, to the gutter. poor writing, in my book.

tag game — getting to know you
tagged by @twilightarc-gm. thanks for the tag!
1. three ships (that you’ve consistently read from 2022-2023)
a) chengxian (mdzs), obviously. my blog IS devoted to it.
b) qijiu (svsss), bc i can’t get over their tragic soulmates shit either.
don’t think i have a third one lol. at least, nothing’s coming to mind rn. maybe wu xi and jing qi from qi ye? though i never read any fanfic for them.
2. first ship
ah, this is difficult. i wasn’t really a ‘shipper’ type of child, i hated romance storylines lol. i suppose i did like zuko and mai from atla, although that was more due to the fact that i loved mai.
3. last song listened
not really a song, but i’m currently listening to the album phoenix by charlotte cardin. love her music, btw. highly recommend all of her songs, her voice is just amazing.
4. last movie watched
werewolf by night, it’s a black-and-white marvel film. not bad, better than the other stuff marvel’s released lately.
5. currently watching
i don’t watch much tv, and the last tv series i watched was a korean drama called the guest which i got 6 episodes into before i got busy and then forgot to watch the rest of it :/ it was interesting, and i’m still planning to watch the rest of it. at some point.

Fuck it! Niche Minecraft Youtuber to watch if you like specific Dream Smp Characters! I have a lot of beloved niche Minecrafters I love and struggle to raise attention for so I have decided that I'm finally going to make this list, it’s an incomprehensible list hanging on by threads! but its a list!
Do you like Jschlatt? Do you like Evil, Capitalism, and Drama? Try William Strife! The Corporate Evil Overlord Capitalist with plenty of evil and dramatics a-plenty. One of the, if not the, original Minecraft Capitalist characters! With a hatred of magic, a love of money and tech, and the inability to ever be wrong Strife has managed to craft a hilarious yet oddly engaging parody of Capitalist America. Going strong for nearly a decade you may actually recognize him if you were in the Fallout scene back in the early 2010's for his guides! Strife has done plenty of Minecraft though and it's one of the things he's most known for. If you don't mind long run series mixed with some mod tutorial stuff I highly recommend checking out Solutions in Chaos for his infamously hilarious interactions with one Alex Parvis. Though if you don't have much time or tolerance for long run series his most recent series of Solutions and Order along with Crossroads may be something to enjoy. Or if you just like dick jokes you could just visit his streams, that's always an option as well.
Are you a fan of Wilbur Soot and Karl Jacobs? Do you crave death and rebirth and the horrors it brings but also a multiverse worth of interconnected yet not connected at all stories? Try Lyinginbedmon! Storyteller of a multiverse of themselves and our resident Master of Horror this Fox has dozens of stories and falls from glory to share. Do you wish to watch a Shinto Priest delve deeper into corrupting magics and slowly begin to wonder just how much the gods are hiding from them? Try Yokai Village! Do you want to watch a man trapped in early 2010's Nether struggle to survive and uncover a deeper story then they ever thought was there? Nether Expedition! Do you want to watch a Maid deal with the zombie apocalypse? Try Maid-ing Do! Do you want to watch a banished Werewolf Knight turned mercenary deal with their vampire racism? Knight of Fangs! Do you want to see the life and fall of the Witch in the Woods going from charming if odd neighbor to a betrayed horror monster seeking nothing but vengeance for what has done to them? Chaosville Season 2 and then Witch in the Woods! Or if you want something a bit shorter you can watch a Fae deal with a dragon witcher and strange magics effecting them, there is always the ongoing Clockwork & Memory.
Do you like Eret? Do you like a royal air and a sense of duty? Intense shitpost mixed with intense dramatic moments? Try Kirindave! Admittedly a bit of a weaker connection but that's just goes to show how enigmatic the Storm Sage really is. With a good sense of story telling and the charisma of something you really should not trust Kirin is quite a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately they haven't done much Minecraft on their own channel in awhile and their content is much more focused on mod exploration along with being an admin of various servers then actual plot. However you will feel when that plot hits, there's a reason their fans tend to portray their character as a god. If you want to learn why you don't mess with the forest, I recommend Minecraft The Hard Way, but if you want a bit more plot in your learning of mods, Sunless is quite a good even if it never got a proper ending.
Do you like Ponk and Foolish? Do you like gorgeous builds mixed with strange yet curiosity inducing lore? Do you like mad science/doctors? Try Lucian V. Ghost! With several series under their belt and the smoothest British voice I've ever heard Lucian specializes in short series with lots of Lore and high production values. With their series Ghost Labs and the sequel and still in-progress Ghost Industries, enjoy videos about strange mods with an immensely hilarious cast. If you want something a bit more SMPish though, Chronobreach and it's on going sequel World of Madness is a great introduction to the strange and morally dubious lore of Ghost Industries. They also have the ongoing series Unlikely Reunion that is nothing but lore, and cool robots.

Ria’s Top 10 Shrinkyclinks Fics
Tumblr media
I will admit this isn’t my preferred AU -- I won’t immediately jump on a fic just because it’s pre-serum Steve and WS Bucky. I gotta like the plot, or the premise, or be really, really intrigued by the tags, but to be fair, that’s how I am with everything that isn’t Modern Bucky and Cap Steve, so. That being said, I have read some truly fantastic shrinkyclinks stories, and I do very much love Steven “Fight Me” Rogers at his scrappiest. And these fics also tend to feature protective!Bucky which is another personal favorite of mine. Oh, but also: shrinkyclinks generally refers to pre-serum Steve with actual Winter Soldier Bucky, but a lot of people use the tag just to imply body types, and when they say WS Bucky they mean he’s all huge and muscled and sometimes has a metal arm, though that isn’t required. That’s the definition I’m going with as well, so hopefully nothing’s confusing!
1. If Wishing Made It So by leveragehunters. Before I get into anything about the actual fic, let me say this: leveragehunters is probably my favorite stucky writer. Like, hands-down, I read almost everything they write, and they’re big into fantasy stories, which is a great bonus for me personally. So, so, so many good shrinkyclinks fics by them (Even Underneath the Waves, a mermaid AU that features equal amounts of pre- and post-serum Steve, and A-mage-ing Grace with mage Steve are two of my other favorites, and they would’ve been on the list, but I try not to put more than one story per author, ya know? And IWMIS kinda wins out above the others for me, so). This story features jinn!Bucky who finds himself in the baffled hands of Steve Rogers, who is perfectly prickly and stubborn and good. Bucky’s got a terrible past with humans in general (and Hydra in particular, what a shocker) that he and Steve have to overcome as their relationship progresses, but that progression is frankly beautiful to watch unfold. I come back to this story time and time again because of how much I love these versions of Steve and Bucky getting to know one another, learning to trust each other, supporting each other through the worst the world has to throw at them. Plus, there’s a few more stories in this series if you get as hooked as I am, which is always great!!
2. Roots Have Grown by AustinB. I remember reading this and just... completely feeling what Bucky is going through. Not everything -- he’s an agoraphobic veteran, and I can’t relate to either of those, really, but he’s so... awkward about his crush on Steve. And that’s -- that’s relatable to me. But it’s precious, really, how he tries to help Steve even though he’s afraid to actually meet him initially; he becomes Steve’s sort of... anonymous benefactor? Guardian angel with money? Like, it’s definitely a sugar daddy type deal originally but I doubt Bucky would describe it like that. I don’t know, it’s cute, though, and I loved seeing Bucky opening up to Steve as they became closer.
3. Through The Woods by VenusMonstrosa, alby_mangroves. Okay, hear me out: werewolves. I fucking love werewolves in fiction; I mean, not really the romance novels you’ll see in the grocery store, but. Werewolf mythology is one of my favorite things, so seeing it in fanfiction almost always manages to lure me in. And I was so not disappointed with this story! Steve’s living alone in a cabin in the woods, which of course sounds like the opening to a horror movie, but here it leads to love. Werewolf Bucky is both charming and terrifying, to a degree, he’s a wolf, but he and Steve are fantastic together. This is another story that goes in on the trust aspect of their relationship and I for one am a big fan of that. There’s some violence, minor character death and the like, but it’s definitely not undeserved so. If you can handle that (and the sex, because there is sex in this) then I highly recommend this one!
4. The Joy of Little Things by obsessivereader, Sealcat. And so we move from werewolves to dragons. Yup. Dragons. Another of my beloved mythical creatures that I obsessed over when I was kid. Bucky’s capable of shifting into a human in this, but primarily he’s a big ol’ dragon that surprisingly doesn’t want to eat the scrawny sacrifice from the local village. Steve ends up working for Bucky, instead, and from there hilarity ensues. Steve’s obviously wary of Bucky, but Bucky isn’t at all what he’d been expecting, and they grow closer the longer Steve’s staying in Bucky’s caves. There are a couple of stories with Dragon!Bucky, but this is my personal favorite; it’s cute and heart-warming and, well. I just really like it.
5. I Just Want to Love You in My Own Language by agetwellcard, inediblesushi. So this one has Cap!Bucky (Bucky!Cap?) but again, sometimes it’s more about how Bucky looks rather than his role as the Winter Soldier. Anyway, I remember my biggest take away from this story was how adorable Bucky was in his quest to win the affections of sassy Nurse Steve, who patches him up after missions and is probably playing hard to get. Bucky uses terrible pick-up lines, absolutely awful, and he is completely unashamed of that fact. Which is, as I said, adorable. Steve, initially, does not agree with my assessment, but he gets there eventually. After some requisite drama, of course.
6. Tint & Shade by forestofbabel. Oh, god, this one hurt me, I remember that pretty clearly. Bucky is the Winter Soldier in this, and Steve is a 21st century art therapist who just so happens to resemble his late grandfather, Captain Joseph Rogers, who fought in -- you guessed it -- WWII. Like I said in the intro, if I really like the premise of something I’ll usually read it regardless of the configuration of pre-/post-serum Steve and pre-serum/WS Bucky, and this was definitely one of the fics I got into for that reason. Having actual WS Bucky interact with a modern pre-serum Steve is always interesting, given how much they don’t have in common, generally (there isn’t even really the veteran status that modern Bucky sometimes has in fics), and it’s a journey to see how and why they connect. Having Steve resemble his WWII era grandfather caught my attention, and the fic itself made me grateful that I decided to go for it in the first place. This is another one where is trust is key to their relationship, considering the mental/emotional state Bucky is in at the beginning. Very good story overall!
7. Fourth Floor by dirtybinary, mithborien, picoalloe. So dirtybinary has written some amazing stucky fics, which is why I was so excited when I saw this being posted initially (a few years ago, but still). There’s magic! Mystery! Suspense! Some NatSharon! Looking this over, I’m wondering if I should’ve saved it for the Urban Fantasy list I wanna do (and If Wishing Made It So, if I’m being honest) but I do like it for the shrinkyclinks list. The writing is great, the characterization of Steve and Bucky is great, and like, they live in what is essentially a magical apartment complex, so what’s better than that?
8. my heart tells me you are lonely, too by FanGirling. Alright, so I read this one as it was being published, and the slow burn about killed me. You know, in a good way, though. Bucky lives in Steve and his mother’s apartment building, trying to figure out where to go with his life now that he’s broken free of Hydra and gotten his autonomy back. He’s obviously wary, skittish, but he takes a liking to Sarah Rogers when she reaches out to befriend him, surprised anyone wants to be near him let alone take the time to get to know him. Steve... is not so easily sold on Bucky. And I’m not gonna spoil anything here, but the shit these two go through is intense, and I cried a lot during this fic, sometimes out of frustration because they’re both ridiculous about their feelings (of course Bucky’s fears are valid, the man has been through literal hell, but also I was internally screaming a little as Bucky continually talked himself out of getting closer to Steve.) I wanted to wrap the both of them in about thirty blankets for pretty much the entire length of the fic. God. They’re just -- they’re so incredibly sweet in this one, once they work past their issues (Bucky and Steve are both more than a little messed up from their respective circumstances, but they make it work). Mind the tags on this one, also, especially because there is a chapter that deals with attempted sexual assault against Steve (obviously not with Bucky!), but Bucky handles the situation before anything truly nasty happens, that I can promise.
9. Local Raccoon Befriends Angry Chihuahua by charlesdk. This is yet another author I really love; they have a fantastic farmer!Steve/Modern!WS!Bucky story that I love to bits, as well as other great fics. But anyway, this one. The title sold me the second I saw it, honestly, I can’t even pretend that wasn’t the deciding factor in me reading this. I don’t think I can really do any better than the summary in explaining why I recommend it; feisty tiny Steve and lovestruck grumpy Bucky are a winning combination in my book. This one does feature the boys dealing with homophobia and ableism, though I can’t recall how severe it is. So I’d just mind the tags, and if you’re alright with them, thoroughly enjoy this story.
10. The Road to Hell is Paved with Tony’s Good Intentions by pinlilli. Bucky as a mail-order Russian bride. That’s the detail that pretty much demanded I click on this fic, and oh my god, it was even better than I ever could’ve expected. Tony, in a bid to help Steve get over his awful ex-boyfriend (fuck Brock Rumlow in every universe, honestly), literally orders him a husband -- in the form of beefy James Barnes, who is a fucking gem and I will not hear one bad word against him. He does chores, it’s lovely and adorable, and you will definitely fall just as hard as Steve does. There’s some canon-typical violence in this one that relates to James’ past, but nothing super graphic as far as I remember. Again, Rumlow is a dick and should be treated as such, but he’s hardly the most important part of this fic and I urge everyone to take a look at it if they’re as intrigued by Bucky being a mail-order husband as I was.

Other fictional werewolves (let's not get into Meyer's 'they're shapeshifters' turnaround, yet) are treated as subhuman, too. Is it more of an issue in the twilight saga because SM reserved that exclusively for non-white, native americans who would have/do face that disregard by many people in real life? Whereas, with others (HP, for instance) it's...well, I don't know if it's across the race spec but it's not exclusive to marginalised people (then again, JKR was exclusionary in her attitude)
Okay so this app tells me that I have a certain amount of asks in my inbox; however, there's one less ask than what it's telling me I have, which leads me to believe that Tumblr may have trashed your other ask or just isn't showing it (if you sent another one, that is). So if you did, I'm really sorry about that and it wasn't my doing, so I'm just gonna work with this ask, okay? Just wanted to clarify that just in case!
So first things first. I haven't really watched enough shows about supernatural creatures, specifically shows with a vampire vs. werewolf element, to give a statement on whether the 'vampires are portrayed as more superior to werewolves/werewolves are treated as subhuman' bit is more /across the board/ in the supernatural genre like you say it is (although I think you make an interesting and legit point that I do want to hear more about). I've watched Twilight and True Blood(a while ago) and that's pretty much it.
In answer to your first question, yes. Meyer goes every which way to beastialize the Native Americans in her books, whom are the werewolves of the series (and like you said, we're ignoring her little "they're actually shapeshifters, here's a last minute mention about the Children of the Moon" from BD). She writes it so that specifically the Native American tribe turns into animals -> makes their actions violent and their control short enough to the point that a domestic violence situation goes down (we're coming back to this bit) -> draws up the racist parallel that Native ppl, and specifically the men, are more animalistic and predatorial. Not to mention that domestic and sexual violence against Indigenous women (as well as murder) is an ongoing genocidal epidemic, so Meyer including that bit that draws a parallel to what is happening irl is so... 'Inappropriate' doesn't do it and a lot of other shit she wrote justice. (Here's a link about MMIW.)
She shouldn't have written the Emily/Sam/Leah love triangle (and especially the incident between Sam and Emily where he scars her) PERIOD because 1. Meyer writes that Emily forgives Sam and that they have their romantic happily ever after, which trivializes what Indigenous women face and 2. portrays stereotypes of Native men being violent and 3. you can tell from how much unresolved drama she creates for her Native characters (Embry's father, the love triangle, killing Harry Clearwater and placing the blame on his daughter, killing Sarah Black off page and all the grief it causes Billy and their kids, Quil's dad dying in a boating accident when he was a kid, and Quil imprinting on a toddler which we are so getting to) that she's a sadist for Indigenous pain (which is a bit more in general with the series than just the love triangle but I'm in rant mode rn and it needed to be said!!!). Like, making Quil imprint on Claire, a 3 year-old - what was the point of that??? Meyer wrote a lot of fucked up shit in those books, but making Native men be violent toward women (Sam and Jake with Emily and Bella) and child groom (Jake and Quil with Renascence and Claire) is some of the absolute worst, despicable, racist ass shit!!
The anti-Native racism becomes even more apparent when you pay attention to the double standards that the Native characters face as opposed to the Cullens. Let's take several incidents into account. We are to view the werewolves as having a lack of control over their tempers and their phrasing, as well as being violent and dangerous. The e.g. was Sam and Emily (see above), as well as Jake's mood changes and shaking post-first phase. However, the Cullens are characterized by their self-control and focus over their thirst and their general feral nature as vampires (Carlisle's god-like control to the point that he can be a doctor, Edward not killing Bella in Twilight) DESPITE a clear example refuting this - the incident at Bella's birthday party in New Moon! Bella was all cut up by the end of the evening because Señor Slavery Is My State Right lost his shit at a paper cut and then Edweirdo didn't pay enough fucking attention to not throw Bella into a glass table when he was trying to push her out of the way, which he didn't even have to do!! Then in Eclipse, his hypocritical ass proceeded to tell Bella that he wasn't allowing her to go to La Push (god imagine if your man said he wasn't ALLOWING you to do something like I'd fucking kill the motherfucker with a flamethrower up the ass) because the wolf pack was dangerous despite why he left in the first place in New Moon! There are more occurrences of this hypocritical, racist bullshit, but this is the clearest example to point out.
I've seen greater in-depth discussions going around, as well as papers you can just google and read, that have analyzed how much anti-Native racism is steeped into the series, which I would highly recommend looking out for. Actually I may possibly go back and find a few that I read myself.
As for the JKR thing, she wrote lycanthropy as a metaphor for HIV/AIDS. Also, take notice to how the majority of the werewolves in HP were bad guys and sided with Lord Voldemort. These werewolves embraced their nature, eating (I'm pretty sure, it's been years since I've read it) and infecting ppl gleefully, which was basically a parallel to the idea that gay men were infecting ppl with AIDS, because Joanne is not only a transphobic bitch, she's homophobic as well. You wouldn't immediately think so because she made Dumbledore gay, but that was more for the ~drama~ rather than legitimate representation. (See: she released that detail after the books were published so that it wouldn't hurt sales/PR, she had him crush on the man he would have to defeat in battle for the ~drama~ b/c if there's one thing bigots love, it's inflicting pain on minority characters.)
Compare these violent werewolves in the Wizarding World vs. Remus Lupin, the werewolf who was forcefully turned by Fenrir Greyback, one of the pack leaders who sided with Voldermort, and is ~ashamed~ of his sickness.
Anyways, I think you may be onto something here, and I encourage everyone to add any other examples that are relevant and continue this conversation. I'm sure there are plenty that either have to do with Anon's point or with Stephenie Meyer being a racist.

my miraculous fic recs
These are a bunch of fics that I personally really love and highly recommend giving a read! Most of these are probably gonna end up being angsty, I’ll try my best to put some fluffy ones too, but I will put potential trigger warnings and the sort as needed. Some of them are gonna be old, others new, but I think this’ll be fun in case you’re looking for something to read!!
                ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
whose woods these are (I think I know.) by Reiaji
(Rated T)
Pairings: Ladrien
Cinderella AU, Adrien winds up as a servant in his own home after his mother passes away, he meets a masked huntress in the woods and finds happiness for the first time in a long while. This is such a beautifully written piece, the writing is phenomenal, and the lore is everything. If you haven’t read this already I highly suggest reading this! (Incomplete) //Implied/Referenced Child Abuse//
Chasing the C/h/atwalk. by Inkkerfuffle ( @runningoutofink )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Adrienette
Project Runway AU anyone? Marinette competes in the show and she happens to come across a certain familiar model’s face~ I absolutely adore this fic, it’s the cutest thing ever. (Complete)
Breathe by artisticFlutter
(Rated T)
Pairings: Lovesquare
“While assisting the public during an akuma attack as Chat Noir, Adrien is unknowingly exposed to a deadly disease making one final stand in Paris. He struggles to stay above it, to keep fighting, but he finds it harder to breathe every day.”
This fic is supposed to be a crossover fic with the Trauma Series, which I’m not familiar with, but I love this so much. It absolutely hurts, but it’s written so well and I go back for this one a lot. (Complete) // Graphic Depictions of Illness // Blood // Surgery //
Lucky Us by PrincessKitty1 ( @geek-fashionista )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Lovesquare
They’re aged up in this AU! Marinette finds her life not going quite as planned, she’s stuck working at her parent’s bakery. Ladybug and Chat Noir are aliases for their emails and they’re pen-pals. Adrien starts coming to the bakery after hours. Slow burning ensues. This fic is  s o f t , it owns my heart and it’s asdfhk everything. (Complete)
Ruffled by imthepunchlord ( @imthepunchlord )
(Rated G)
Pairings: Adrienette
This is a Harry Potter AU! Although it doesn’t have any relation to the plot of Harry Potter, it takes place in the same universe. They attend the French wizarding school Beauxbatons, Adrien struggles to fit into the pureblood society because he’s secretly half human and half Veela, a witch catches his eye and hehe slow burn. (Complete)
Pray For the Children You Lost Along the Way by LunarDaydreams
(Rated M)
Pairings: Lovesquare
Silent Hill AU, I’ve never played the game before, nor do I know any of its context, but this fic?? Is so good?? Ladybug, Chat Noir, and Hawkmoth end up stranded in a strange town, Agreste family drama, creepy monsters in the fog, and the town seemingly transfixed on hurting Chat Noir. Ladybug and Chat Noir try their best to stay together and escape. Lots of hurt/comfort. If you’re into horror, this one’s for you. (Incomplete) // Graphic Depictions of Violence // Trauma // Psychological Horror // Horror // Minor Character Death // Temporary Character Death // Silent Hill-Typical Warnings // References to Suicide and Depression //
Phantasmagoria and Late to the Jabberwocky by Mikauzoran                       ( @mikauzoran )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Lukadrien / Lukadrienette
These are both a part of her Springtime in Wonderland series and it’s so wonderful. The writing is absolutely amazing, Phantasmagoria takes place on the anniversary of Adrien’s mother’s disappearance, he rebels and goes to the bar where he runs into Luka playing with his band. They grow closer together, and lots of flirting ensues. Late to the Jabberwocky takes place after the events of Phantasmagoria so I can’t say much about it without spoiling the other so ur just gonna have to go read it :P (Incomplete) // Mentions of Alcohol // References to Depression // Family Issues //
Out of the Rain by ominousunflower ( @ominousunflower )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Lukadrien
This one gives me big owies, it hurts like no tomorrow, but I’m hooked on this. This made me tear up because it just hurts that much. Ladybug is killed in battle against Hawkmoth, this deals with the aftermath, Adrien struggles to cope with it. He has to give up being Chat Noir, and his friends try to help him keep it together. Things get worse when he finds himself with a new responsibility he’s not sure he can handle. The author puts warnings at the beginning of each chapter, because it’s pretty heavy. But this really is one of my favorite fics right now. (Incomplete) // Major Character Death // Grieving // Loss // Isolation // Depression // Eating Disorder // Panic Attacks // Thoughts about Dying // Emotional Self-Harm // Mentions of Vomiting //
A Werecat in London by ThornQueen ( @i-am-thornqueen )
(Rated M)
Pairings: Lovesquare
I am a sucker for werewolf -or in this case, werecat- AUs. They’re aged up, Chat Noir has to deal with the consequences of an akuma while on a business trip in London. This is an older fic and it hasn’t been updated in a while, but what’s there is absolutely worth reading. The writing is amazing. (Incomplete) // Mentions of Nudity // Discussions of Sex (not explicitly) //
Back to Us by DarkReyna16 ( @insanitysscribblings )
(Rated M)
Pairings: Lovesquare
Hawkmoth is defeated, but it costs Ladybug and Chat Noir’s friendship. They go their separate ways only to meet up again seven years later, the citizens of Paris are lashing out, and tensions are as high as ever. What could go wrong? This is like enemies to lovers, except they were friends before they were enemies, and it is the ultimate slow burn. (Complete) // Minor Character Death //
Truth and Consequences by siderealSandman( @siderealscribblings )
(Rated M)
Pairings: Lovesquare, Lukagami, Nino/Alya/Chloé, Mentions of Lukanette and Adrigami
Marinette discovers Hawkmoth’s identity and she makes a deal with him. Chaos ensues. This really dives into the shows dynamics and almost dissects the lovesquare. It makes u wanna cry and go whYY my poor heart, but you have to keep reading because you wanna know what happens next. (Incomplete) // Major Character Death //
You Don’t Know Me by Ferisae ( @ferisae )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Lovesquare
This was like my first favorite fanfic, it’s written so amazingly, and it’s an older one as well that hasn’t been updated but it owns my heARt. Ladybug suffers from a near-fatal accident and Adrien struggles to keep it together. He has to try and protect Paris while falling apart emotionally and physically. (Incomplete) // Hospitals // Blood // Illness //
Cry of the Siren by SKayLanphear ( @skaylanphear )
(Rated M)
Pairings: Lovesquare, DJWifi
This is so pretty agh, I daydream about this fic. Marinette is a pirate captain, Adrien is a mermaid and finds himself caught with arranged marriage, he leaves his home and gets stranded on human shores after being injured. I love this so much, I love pirates and mermaids, and the society that was built is so amazing and ga h. (Incomplete) // Nudity // Mental Health Issues //
Love Has No Barriers by Scribbling Mama ( @scribblingmama )
(Rated T)
Pairings: Adrienette
Adrien suffers from a rare immunodeficiency disorder which leaves him stuck behind plastic and isolated from the outside world. He’s childhood friends with Marinette, and he wants nothing more than to leave his bubble and confess his feelings for her. This fic was so sad, but so soft, I adore this to bits. (Complete) // Illness // Hospitals // Surgery //
The Two of Us by AnabielVriskaMars
(Rated T)
Pairings: Adrienette
Because this list needs more fluff! They’re in college and Marinette is struggling financially, Adrien offers to marry her until she’s stable again. Totally not romantic or anything… unless??? (Complete)
There’s definitely more, but for now these are all the ones I can name that I really really love. Happy reading!! ♡

hey kristen! i was wondering if you could recommend me some books, please! thank you in advance.
Hi anon! I’m sorry in advance for how shitty this rec list is about to be haha. As weird as it may seem being an English teacher and all, I hardly read these days. I have to read so many papers by students and read the content I’m teaching as a refresher that it hardly leaves time for joy reading, so I haven’t done much of that since I was an undergrad. I’ve read a huge amount, but a lot of it was classics and poetry in grad school lol. Not exactly fun reading recs. I’m very boring in that my favorite book is tied between The Deathly Hallows, the Great Gatsby, and Jane Eyre haha.
But I have found some fun things over the last few years and since you didn’t specify a genre I’ll just share a little sprinkle of everything :P
Ok so I have to start with what I’m reading right now which is the
The Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
I hardly ever read YA lit and actually haven’t read any since The Hunger Games years ago, but I had seen a few people I follow talking about the Grishaverse so I decided to pick up her first trilogy. She’s got a trilogy of books called the Shadow and Bone trilogy (I’m on book two right now, and I’m OBSESSED ok???) and a duology called the Six of Crows duology (which is, fwiw, much more famous than the trilogy? But I’m going to finish the trilogy first) and a second duology in progress right now called King of Scars. They’re basically YA romance and adventure in this awesome fantasy universe she’s created. I don’t want to spoil anything else so you’ll just have to read them. And please do, so we can freak out together haha. I recommended these to my best friend who sadly moved to New York a year and a half ago, and she has been loving them and we chat about them on skype :) The first book is here. Start now! Because they’re developing a Netflix series based on her work, which would be a fun new fandom for a lot of us to dabble in to fill the void after GoT ends.
Anyway, here are some more recs.
Romance (by far my favorite genre but I can never find things I really enjoy these days so the list is short. I usually satisfy my romance cravings with fanfic haha):
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne – probably my favorite modern romance ever. This book is GOOD SHIT.
Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young – cute and funny, basis for the movie The Wedding Date that made me fall in love with Dermot Mulroney.
Paris for One by Jojo Moyes – a very quick and kinda forgettable read but I read it on the plane on the way to Paris with my husband for our honeymoon so it will always be special to me I guess haha. It is sweet and simple, a quick and happy book.
Sci-Fi:
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin – LeGuin is a goddess and this book changed my life and how I view so much about gender and society and just… everything. Read it.
Dawn by Octavia Butler – been about ten years since I read this one but it’s always left an impression on me.
Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan – classic cyberpunk. A little slow and admittedly I only picked it up because I enjoyed the Netflix series so much but the premise is really cool, I love the character of Kovacs, and Morgan’s weird style eventually pulls you in.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? – again, this is an obvious inclusion, but this book has so much more humor than Blade Runner and is a really fun and quick read that I’ve always enjoyed.
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman – a military sci fi that’s an allegory for the Vietnam War. It’s written by a Vietnam vet in the early 70s and there is some casual homophobia at times that I don’t appreciate. But I read this in college as part of our assigned reading in an SF class and I really enjoyed it because the speculation and possibilities it presents are frighteningly real and the romance between William and Marygay is really sweet. It’s a good story and very memorable.
Neuromancer by William Gibson –the quintessential cyber punk novel. Gritty and grimdark but always fun. Again, I’m a little squicked by the way the dude writes women sometimes but my love for the genre keeps me going.
Other:
The Alienist by Caleb Carr – a truly fucked up murder mystery that was interesting from beginning to end. I haven’t seen the TV adaptation yet but I’ve got high hopes.
The Woman on the Train by Paula Hawkins – again, a murder mystery, and again, I haven’t seen the adaptation haha. But I can honestly say the book is the most engrossing mystery I’ve ever read and I devoured it in one sitting.
Bossypants by Tina Fey – nonfiction humor for when I’m feeling down :)
Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh – more nonfiction humor, but this time in comic form! Brosh’s web comic was hugely famous before she published it in book format, and for good reason. This book is so great and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s so funny and endearing and real and I just love her.
My Favorite Thing is Monsters by Emil Ferris – while we’re on the subject of comics, I teach a class on graphic novels and memoirs so I’m a big fan of them. My best recent find is this book by Emil Ferris. The entire thing is drawn in a spiral notebook with ballpoint pen, a really unique style. It’s a great story–a murder mystery told by a little girl who loves monster comics and classic horror movies, and imagines herself as a werewolf detective solving her upstairs neighbor’s murder. But it’s set in Chicago in the 60s, so there is a backdrop of post-war drama, civil rights tensions, and more. It’s really amazing.
Fun Home by Alison Bechdel – I was talking about this one the other day. A really moving graphic memoir, basically a lesbian coming-of-age story. It’s so beautifully written, and since Bechdel’s parents were both English teachers it’s rich with literary allusion and gorgeous language. Definitely a tear-jerker, but also surprisingly funny.
Anyway, I’m really sorry if this isn’t what you were looking for but if you can find even one thing you liked on this list (and if you can hurry up and read the Grishaverse lol) I’ll be happy :)

august favorites.
OH MY GOODNESS i am realizing at the end of september that i never did post this. well dang it’s better late than never.
it is once again time for another rewind. i am starting my new job as an official registered nurse, so i packed in as many movies and dramas as i could into the start of the month. and i am still watching a few on-air dramas that i am loving.
music.
BTS answer comeback. these boys really came for my heart when they gave us the full versions of my fave vocalists songs. this whole album was incredible and i am so proud of them. i am hoping to make this its own post bc i cannot contain all my feelings in this rewind with regards to BTS answer. our boys were just so freaking extra in this mv, and i loved every second of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
power up by red velvet. of course we got the red side to red velvet. the first listen it was an ‘oh no no’ but now whenever i hear that ba-ba-na-na it just gets me up and dancing. gotta love everything and anything these girls do!
Tumblr media
we go up by nct dream. these boys be sneaking into my nct bias list. i seriously fell in love with this song upon first listen. it is a bop and i am so freaking in love with this song it is on every and any playlist i have. that line distribution though 10 out of 10! they are all such little cuties and i love them with my whole heart. lil precious beans.
Tumblr media
just look at mark in his last comeback with nct dream. *tear*
Tumblr media
there were so many stellar stills in this mv, like everyone be looking like a model having the time of their lives. example a:
Tumblr media
astro. like anything and everything. i have officially decided to stan these 6 precious boys. and i am so happy that i did. all of their songs are great, and i appreciate their fresh vibe.
Tumblr media
killing me by ikon. these boys like seriously never chill. they are always coming at us with those hardcore bad boy vibes. seriously such a bop and i love screaming these lyrics, and that breakdown has such a drop and it’s incredible.
Tumblr media
bobby once again slayed my existence. just look at this man.
Tumblr media
and can hanbin just chill, like ever. he is coming for me and my bias list.
Tumblr media
dramas & movies. *spoiler alert*
little forest. i loved this film. it was very relaxed and passive. it was a snapshot into hye won’s life. from the countryside to city, back to her own little forest. it was a lovely dynamic film, it was calming and the OST was on point. it was all about the little joys of life and finding her own harmony and place in this world. i really loved the relationship between her and jae-ha. since the ending was ambiguous which is exactly what i expected from this indie film, i hope that it was her long awaited mother’s return. and that she ended up with a happy ending being with jae-ha. i rate it a 9 out of 10.
this film made me realize how much i missed ryu jun-yeol! the last thing i watched with him was reply 1988 and that was waaaaayyyy too long ago! i also love kim tae-ri as i am currently watching mr. sunshine and she is a fabulous actress. adding her to my favorites list!
Tumblr media
a werewolf boy. this one was interesting. a new take on the beauty and the beast fairytale. i appreciated the acting from both my faves song joong-ki and park bo-young. it was great to see the origin of these talented people. i also loved seeing the bad side of one of my faves in the reply series, yoo yeon- seok. if only they could have been happy together. he was only protecting her. i enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. this was a great film, i loved the whole premise of the flashback from the grandmother, so titanic. the waterworks really hit in the end credits as he was making the snowman, which was the book he was to read to her once he learned to talk which he was able to do 6 decades later. i rate this a 9 out of 10 i loved it~ uwu
Tumblr media
one of the many moments i bawled my eyes out.
Tumblr media
architecture 101. this was a great film, and i can see why it is such a highly recommended kmovie. i enjoy a good flashback second chance romance. there was a lot happening in this one, and lines to follow. i love seung-min’s personality, he was so sweet and kind to her. jung-suk my man, i loved him in my annoying brother and he did not disappoint in this one. the ending was real ambiguous, and i don’t appreciate. it definitely was not one of those make you feel good romantic movies. so they both let go of their first love in the end, and he ran away to the states and she ran away to jeju. great communication in this film, no repressed feelings at all. (i hope everyone can sense the sarcasm in that statement) it was truly a recipe made in drama heaven. i rate this classic a 7 out of 10.
Tumblr media
come and hug me. i loved this drama, i had to wait a while for it to come to standard subscription viki but it was worth the wait. of course, there was childhood trauma and seriously scary scenes that i was not expecting from the cute and misleading instagram clips that i saw of the two main leads. but i kept with it and i would give this drama an 8.5 out of 10. the child actors that they got to play the younger versions were absolutely incredible and their skill, talents, and abilities surpass that of the typical child you see in dramas and i was continually blown away by them.

~Mint-Yooxgi’s Fic Recs~
Since a few of you have been asking, and since I've been wanting to do this for a while, here they are! In no particular order, here are some of my favourite fics I've read so far on Tumblr by some amazing authors. As I read more, more stories will be added to the list, but these are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head currently. So, without further ado, here are some of my fic recs!
BTS
I Won’t Stop You - Vampire!Jungkook X Reader Series by @imsarabum
Vampire!AU, Fantasy, Angst, Smut
Now, normally I don’t read long series, or many Jungkook fics since he’s not my bias, but let me tell you something. This series is one of the best series I have had the pleasure of reader. The way the characters are described and the emotions they go through make you feel like they’ve come to life. I love the way it’s written, and how the author puts their own twist on a seemingly classic supernatural creature. The sexual tension alone is enough to get one hot and bothered before any smut actually takes place. Plus, the way the OC is written is very strong, where she’s able to stand up for herself and is also very headstrong. I really enjoyed that aspect. I highly recommend this series to anyone who hasn't read it yet.
Blue Orchids - Jungkook X Reader by @inktae
Angst, A little bit of fluff
Says I don't read many Jungkook fics yet my first two on my rec post are both Jungkook fics. Anyways, I remember seeing this fic on so many fic rec posts before and I always put off reading it since I'm not a huge fan of angst unless I'm in the mood. I wish I read this one sooner. This was one of the first fics that introduced me to the Hanahaki Desease concept and from the first few paragraphs I was hooked. The way the emotions are portrayed, and the overall progression of the story had my heart clenching in pain over the course of this fic. I enjoyed reading this fic and thought it was very well written and paced.
Demon Ritual Series - BTS X Reader by @sopewriters
Horror, Smut
Now, anyone who knows me knows that I love anything supernatural, dark, and creepy (hence my love for Yandere! themed stories). These were actually some of the first fics I read when I was starting to get into the K-Pop community. They’re all very well written with their own interesting plots, plus the added element of smut adds for an even more compelling read. If you scare easily, I recommend reading with the lights on since these stories are all based on very real demon summoning rituals.
The Endless Winter - Jimin X Reader by @workofteaguk
Fluff, Idol/Fan!AU, Soulmate!AU
I remember when this popped up on my dash and I read the summary, I was intrigued, When I read it, I was not disappointed. I love the way this specific AU is portrayed since I happen to be a sucker for soulmate AUs. I was highly impressed with the flow of the story and how the series of events take place. I really like it.
EXO
The Cartel - EXO X Reader Series by @kpopfanfictrash, @iwonchubebe, @changseobbing, @bread-jinie, @imdifferentshadesofpurple, @def-initely-soul, @knockknocksoosthere, and @mak-baes (I hope I tagged everyone!)
Mature, Smut
Once I read the first two stories in the series, I was hooked. Each writer has a unique way of bringing their characters and AU to life. I was never disappointed with this series. The fact that it’s all based around a 70′s drug cartel just makes things more interesting, and usually I'm not a fan of these types of AUs. I remember being so excited for each instalment before they were released and how happy I was when I saw the next part posted. Each story flows well into the next, and you can easily follow the chain of events that continues throughout the series. This series is definitely one of my favourites along with I Won’t Stop You.
Deranged - EXO (Suho) X Reader Series by @heebiejbies
Psychological!AU, Angst
In which Junmyeon has a dissociative identity disorder and each member of EXO is a different identity. I read it all in a few hours and after I was done the most recent part, I remember being like, ‘I can't wait to see what happens next!’ The whole idea and concept surrounding this fic is so intriguing and I absolutely love the way each character is portrayed and the sequence of events that have occurred so far. This series is written brilliantly and I cannot wait for more!
Nothing More - Baekhyun X Reader Series by @peachykaix
Angst
This was another series I was hesitant to start since angst hurts me in so many ways, but it was so worth the read. I loved every second of this fic, and the way it is written is so beautiful. The way the emotions are portrayed really tug at my heartstrings. I remember reading part one before class and wanting to read the next part immediately after, but I had to wait. It was worth it, and my heart was aching by the time I was finished reading it.
Exodus Mall Series - EXO X Reader by @yehet-me-up
Fluff, Smut
I’ve only read a few of the stories posted so far, but I'm already in love. I love the buildup of fluff scenes, they make me feel all soft on the inside, and the progression just makes for a great story. I’m excited to continue reading this series and for more parts to come out! I love the way the author also interconnects each story with each other. It amazes me the time and effort spent planning this all out, and they're doing such a good job so far!
Devil’s Advocate - Vampire!Chanyeol X Angel!Reader by @nunchiwrites
Action, Fluff, Angst, Thriller, Vampire!AU, Angel!AU
Now, when I say this is a good series, this is a good series. I remember when I first came across it when I first got into the K-Pop community on Tumblr, I thought it was going to be completely different than how it turned out, so I put off reading it for a bit. This story completely blew away my expectations and flipped what I thought about it upside-down. I absolutely love the way the characters are portrayed, and everything leading up to the end flows so smoothly and leaves you wanting more after each chapter. Plus, I love how there’s fight in the OC instead of just surrendering immediately.
Of Lemongrass and French Vanilla - Werewolf!Jongdae X Reader also by @nunchiwrites
Fluff, Action, Thriller, Mystery, Werewolf!AU
Literally one of the best Jongdae fics I have read so far. I love everything about this fic and the situations that occur in it. The way the scenario plays out made me want to read it as soon as I could to figure out what happened next. I also love the portrayal of the characters and overall the way it is written. Plus, I'm a sucker for any typer of soulmate AUs.
Scars - Sehun X Reader by @forexcapism
Angst, Soulmate!AU
Remember that post I made awhile back regarding this fic? No? Well let me remind you. This fic is so beautifully written and progressed, your heart will be aching the whole time you read it. The portrayal of emotions and scenes are so well written, that this fic actually brought me close to tears, and I don’t normally get too emotional over fics. I love this fic so much, and it’s sequel. Honestly, everything on their masterlist is a pleasure to read!
I’m Here - Kyungsoo X Reader also by @forexcapism
Horror
The entire concept of this fic had me intrigued, even just by reading the title I was hooked. The element of suspense and horror situated throughout this fic is just the perfect amount, and it definitely sent a few chills down my back as I was reading it. I definitely recommend it if you love supernatural type fics with the element of horror. Plus, it’s written very well.
Pink - Sehun X Reader by @soobadnoonecanstopher
Humour, Smut, Fluff, Neighbour!AU
Reading this, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I could not keep the smile off my face as I read the first half of this fic. It’s very well paced and feels like an actual situation that could happen. Plus, the added sexual tension and smut at the end makes for one hot story. I love this fic, and I highly recommend you read it, as you won't be disappointed.
All Yours - Sub!Jongin X Reader by @silhouetted-beauty
Slight Angst, Smut
Holy shit is this ever a good fic! Sub!Jongin? Sign me the fuck up, hell yes! The way this story is written is so sinful, but it does not take away from the plot at all. An added bonus is that this story is told mainly from Jongin’s perspective, a fact that I love. The way this fic is written is so entertaining, and I remember finishing it and thinking, ‘wow, it’s over already?’ It is that good.
GOT7
A Theory - GOT7 X Reader Series by @maknae-unnie
Angst, Smut
In which all seven members of GOT7 take the OC on a wild ride, with the influence of Jimin and Taehyung, of course. Let me just say, I love the concept behind this fic and the way it’s written will have you smirking in no time (or blushing, idk). I definitely recommend it.
Seven Steps To Hell - GOT7 X Reader Series also by @sopewriters
Seven Cardinal Sins!AU, Drama, Angst, Smut
Each of the members as one of the seven deadly sins? Yes please! Each story has a unique take on these sins and how the sins are portrayed. I love the entire concept surrounding this fic and it is very well written. This is definitely not your typical seven deadly sins fic. I love how each of their characters are portrayed, and how the OC’s character is as well. It definitely gives you something to think about.
7 Days of Heaven - GOT7 X Reader Series by @yg-got7scenarios
Smut, Fluff
What better way to celebrate your birthday than with the guys of GOT7? How about a week vacation where each night you get a different member to live out a confessed drunken fantasy with? Score! Honestly though, I love the whole idea behind this series as it’s unique, and hilarious to read at the beginning of each fic what the OC unknowingly confesses to certain members while drunk. This series made me learn some new things about myself too, if you know what I mean. *Wink, wink* In all seriousness though, I really enjoyed this and I love the way it’s written.
Pull of the Moon - Werewolf!Jaebum X Reader by @honghearts
Werewolf!AU, Fluff, Smut, Friends to lovers!AU
When I say please read this fic, please read this fic! The way it’s written is so amazing and I really felt for JB for the first little bit. Plus, it was really hot. This is literally one of my favourite fics that I always go back to because I love the plot, the smut, and the flow of the story. You will not be disappointed if you read this fic. Another early fic of mine the I found when getting into K-Pop.
Monsta X
The Line Between Right and Wrong - Vampire!Wonho X Chubby!Reader by @jaehyunskitten22
Smut, Fluff, Vampire!AU
Words cannot even begin to describe how I feel about this fic. I love it so much, and it’s so damn sexy! I also really appreciate the fact that it’s with a chubby!reader as sometimes it’s hard to picture myself in certain fics as I'm not the skinniest person out there. I remember when I chanced upon this fic, I was immediately blown away by the writing style and the concept. Literally everything on their masterlist is gold. I love this fic so much, and I highly recommend reading it!
VIXX
Proud - Ken X Reader by @byleo
Fluff, Smut, First time!AU
This fic is literally the reason I started biasing Ken in the first place. It’s written so well, and it’s so hot, I love every single aspect of it. Not only is it written well, but it is more from the point of view of Ken, which just adds onto the story in my opinion. The first time AU incorporated into this fic is literally the sweetest thing ever, you will not regret reading this one bit!

Note
do you read a lot of books? or what do you often read? do you happen to have any recommendations? :)
i haven’t read that many published books in the past few years because of school, but typically, i just... like things that subvert their genres, have interesting narrators, or... have good writing styles. thats it, thats all. here’s some books i’ve enjoyed*
the rest of us just live here by patrick ness: the indie kids are really weird, always running around fighting off zombies, or mysterious blue ghosts, or whatever the latest world-threatening danger is going on. the rest of the town, though, like mikey and his group of friends, are just trying to live their lives. a look at a typical “chosen one” story from the uninvolved bystanders’ point of view
akata witch by nnedi okorafor: twelve year old sunny, born in new york but now living in aba, nigeria, is a little bit lost. then she makes new friends and is plunged into the world of the leopard people, where your greatest defect is also your greatest asset...
chaos walking trilogy by patrick ness (#1: the knife of never letting go; #2: the ask and the answer; #3: monsters of men).  prentisstown isn't like other towns. everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. todd and his dog manchee stumble upon an area of complete silence and find a secret so awful that they have to run for their lives.
raised by wolves series by jennifer lynn barnes: a human girl in a werewolf pack. i know this sounds cracky and terrible but this series also was good enough to make me cry so if you like heavy hitting narratives and anguish you should give this a try
curse workers series by holly black: interesting narrative, really good world building, suspenseful plot akin to the tension you feel when watching a high-stakes chinese court political drama... similar in tone to the “raised by wolves” series. good stuff
welcome to night vale, the novel by joseph fink: a deeply weird story i’m not sure how to explain. has an absurdist sense of humor, as well as a thoughtful exploration of people’s struggles to find themselves. i loved the ending and would highly recommend it
monster blood tattoo series by d.m. cornish: god, the worldbuilding, the language, just. everything about this series was so good!!! orphan boy rossamund, a boy with a girl’s name, is about to begin a dangerous life in service of the emperor. on his journey there, though, he runs into monsters -- and people, who might be just as dangerous. i really loved this series when i was younger and if you like worldbuilding you WILL love it
let’s pretend this never happened: a mostly true memoir by jenny lawson, which made me laugh and cry tears of laughter when nearly nothing else in the world could.
graceling realm series by kristin cashore: i love this series. i will defend it to my dying breath. beautiful strong characters, beautiful plot, beautiful worldbuilding, everything is good and the character relationships are so wonderfully done.
* disclaimer: i haven’t read some of these books in years so i don’t actually know if all of them live up to how i felt about them in memory. read at your own discretion
