Even if those posts get only one or two notes, I’m taking that as a sign that someone enjoyed it. Whether it was a fic they knew and loved before, or they were discovering it for the first time. Or, very rarely, the author found it (which… 😳🫣). If anything I said about any of the fics encouraged people to read them, that’s the important part.

No matter what, I was glad to do them. Even more glad to be able to keep a consistent posting schedule for an entire year, lmao.

Definitely gonna try to start doing them again eventually.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Whenever I get fairly in-depth on the physicality of a feeling, that's usually because at some point I was going through it and thought "lets write this down for future reference." you know, like a healthy person. So I think it's actually the other way around: characters don't give me feelings, I give characters feelings.

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

Does trying my best to get Jimmy Buffett stuck in their heads count?

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

I think I frequently have characters dwelling on past moments where they didn't know what was coming. This is because I do this. Consistently. About everything. All the time. Did you know that two weeks ago Jeremy Renner could walk? I don't even care too much about Jeremy Renner, but two weeks ago he didn't know he was on his last days of full mobility.

Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

I try to do too many things with mental health. I just find it very interesting. Write what you know, all that. But in general, like sick fics, I think, and light angst. Always happy endings.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Is there just a trope that is dofp for cherik? I feel like everyone has written at least one fic centered around it. I started one and never finished it. I had so many ideas and then forgot all my ideas so it just exists in my drafts now.

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.

I think as long as I have my laptop I'm good. I've tried writing on my phone, that never works out. Aside from that, anywhere as long as I have an idea.

32. How do you feel about smut?

I'm terrible at writing it. I've tried, I haven't tried in years. I just don't think I can write it without making it cringy. I do read smut though.

33. How do you feel about crack?

I never know just what the line is with crack. I've written some things that I think are more crack than not. Fun to write, don't tend to read it. Bad experience once with a crack fic that was suddenly mpreg and superman flew through a window to deliver the child (I don't even remember the fandom but I do know it was unrelated to superman).

my year in fic: 2023

Carrying on a format from the past two years! Here's 2022 & 2021.

I wrote a lot this year, but much of it remains unpublished 🥲. Not sure how I became a "way too many WIPs" person but it is what it is. I will finish and post some of them in 2024!! I swear!!!

I *did* publish three fics—one long, one medium, one short. All three of them are Cherik. Please note that I used "grudgingly" in two of these three summaries lol. You can certainly read some "grudging" undercurrents in Erik's quote in the last one, too. 🥰

1) "Repeat Offenses" ~36K words, exes to ??, written for the wonderful @ikeracity's bid during Fandom Trumps Hate!

Summary: “Prickly bits aside—hell, for the two of them, prickly bits included—it almost felt like a date. Which is stupid on multiple fronts. Grudgingly buying your ex a meal after he grudgingly bails you out of jail is obviously not a date.”

Five times Charles bailed Erik out of jail—and one time he didn’t.

2) "The Plus-One" ~15K words, fake-relationship fic (literally fake!)

Summary: When Erik grudgingly agrees to play Raven's boyfriend at her terrible family's holiday party, he'd thought the biggest challenge would be staying sober enough to make it convincing. But then he meets Raven's extremely hot—and extremely infuriating—stepbrother, and everything starts to get complicated.

3) "Resolutions" ~1K words, a vignette set on New Year's Eve

Summary: “Do you know how far I traveled tonight?” Erik snaps, making a sweeping gesture back towards the windows. “I’ve already greeted the New Year in two different time zones.”

(Featuring Dadneto, baby Lorna and the struggles of single fatherhood, and Charles as the host of a late night show about genetics.)

Charles thinks they can pull it off, at least until he opens the door to see Erik and falls in love at first sight.
