The ride back to base was as eventful as usual. Krueger and Nak sat shoulder-to-shoulder. If you asked either of them if it was by choice, they'd say it was from the force of being thrown around in the back of the stupid humvee.

If you asked Kruger if he needed to have his arm around the back of Nak's seat, he'd say it's to steady himself. If you asked Nak if her grip on Krueger's thigh holster was necessary, she'd say the same thing.

Every bump jostled both of them, cramed uncomfortably close in the back seat. Krueger had his helmet piled in his lap, the netting having become uncomfortably stiffling.

"I can't wait to get back," Nak groaned, steadying herself after a particularly sharp bump.

Krueger made a noise in agreement, getting thrown along with her, "We've got work, though."

"Busy work, that's all," Nak replied, shooting him a vaguely judgemental look, "Afraid of doing a little housekeeping?"

Krueger scoffed this time, rolling his eyes. He swatted at Nak's hand, gripping his thigh holster, and she pinched him in return.

"That's not an answer," Nak pushed, shouldering Krueger with a little more force than necessary when the next bump hit.

"I'd do anything if it gave me a break from you," Krueger sneered. His tone was entirely unserious.

"Whatever. I hope you get stuck, like, on latrine duty or something," Nak replied, scrunching her nose at him.

"Yeah? I hope you do too, that way we both smell like shit," Krueger laughed.

That earned Krueger a particularly harsh slap to his arm.

Soon enough, the humvee was pulling up to base. After sufficiently complaining about the ride, they both gathered their stuff. Nak kicked the door on her side of the humvee open with her foot.

"Good luck with whatever shit you get stuck doing," She hummed, turning to look over her shoulder at Krueger.

Not entirely paying attention, Krueger gave a half-hearted hum of confirmation, still taking stock of his gear.

Amused, Nak pressed a fleeting kiss to his scruffy cheek with an over exaggerated 'smooch'.

"Wait-" Krueger gaped, pulling Nak by her arm to press a proper kiss to her lips.

It was meant to be as fleeting as Nak's, but neither of them moved to pull away. Krueger was the one to sit back, grip on Nak's arm loosening. Nak blinked at him, wide-eyed and slightly flushed.

"You missed the first time," Krueger chuckled. "Now could you get out of the fucking humvee? We have shit to do."
