The Enduring Wisdom of Rod Serling: Choosing Love Over Prejudice
In 1960, Rod Serling’s iconic television show The Twilight Zone aired an episode titled “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.” One of its most memorable lines resonates powerfully today: “For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of…

Healthcare Standards: Striving for Excellence in Patient Care
Tumblr media
In today's rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, healthcare standards play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality and patient-centered care. As healthcare providers strive for excellence, it is imperative to not only adhere to existing standards but also anticipate future trends and embrace global best practices. Let's explore how accreditation insights, diverse care standards, and inclusive practices contribute to the enhancement of healthcare standards.
Future Trends in healthcare are constantly shaping the way patient care is delivered. From the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine to advancements in precision medicine, staying abreast of these future trends is crucial for maintaining relevance and effectiveness in healthcare delivery.
Inclusive practices are essential for ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances. By adopting inclusive practices, healthcare providers can address disparities in care and promote health equity among diverse patient populations.
Global best practices serve as a benchmark for excellence in healthcare delivery. By studying and implementing global best practices, healthcare organizations can benchmark their performance against international standards, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Tumblr media
Accreditation insights provide valuable guidance on meeting and exceeding healthcare standards. Whether pursuing accreditation from organizations such as the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), leveraging accreditation insights can streamline processes and enhance the overall quality of care.
Diverse care standards recognize that healthcare is not one-size-fits-all. Different patient populations have unique needs and preferences, necessitating the adoption of diverse care standards to ensure that care is tailored to individual requirements.
In conclusion, achieving excellence in patient care requires a commitment to upholding healthcare standards while embracing future trends, inclusive practices, global best practices, accreditation insights, and diverse care standards. By integrating these elements into everyday practice, healthcare providers can truly strive for excellence in patient care.

Genuinely part of me thinks ao3 should install the 4 character max limit that fanfic dot net has because I should not have to scroll through 50 fics about men in order to get to a Cass fic in her own tag. If she's a side character with two lines then don't fucking tag her! She is not a main character in your Jason Todd Tim drake Danny Phantom spiderman fic and we both know she's not going to be relevant enough to earn that character tag so just don't add it! Let Cass fans who want to read Cass be able to find actual fics about her my god.

Rune Meditation - Othala
Tumblr media
For a moment I couldn't tell if Othala (their guide persona) was actually Odin, but he was a distinctly different and grumpy old man (who also happened to be wearing the stereotypical grey wizards outfit I frequently see Odin wear). He was sitting, slouched at a desk in a classroom, where he was looking at Nazi symbols laid over a world map. Like they were places where their ideology had taken hold. He was angry with how he's been treated and misused and how that's affected the rest of the runes as well.*
I asked him what he's really all about. He stood up from his seat and showed me a family tree that morphed into a person. He said he (othala) is a reminder of the ancestors, of all who live within me (us/humanity), and the ørlög they collected and passed down to me. It is my decision to pick up my family's mantle and continue it or take it in a completely different direction. He said all lineages pass down great love and some great messes that must be dealt with. But it is not about manifest destiny or anyone being greater than anyone else. Claiming one's birthright is about accepting the line that cultivated the ørlög you possess and making it your own. And remembering that you are an ancestor of those yet to be (even if you're not a biological ancestor to them).
It was a truly deep, meaningful energy and message, and there is extremely good reason to be upset about how this meaning has been corrupted by white supremacists. There's something so beautiful and important about remembering our connection to what was, is, and will be. It's so unlike any sort of supremacy culture that intentionally severs connections and seeks to eliminate so many lives that we are/can be connected with.
As I was writing this in my journal, I got the sense that Odin sees the runes themselves as a birthright.** Something to be passed down. Something that he sacrificed himself for that they might be passed down to others (like ørlög for humanity) so their power and magic can be claimed. Not just the Elder Futhark alphabet, but all language - written, spoken, or signed. It is our birthright to use words and communicate, to express ourselves and affect change. It feels quite fitting to end these meditations with this message from Othala and Odin - a reminder of this birth right of expression and connection, and to appreciate the runes (and all languages) that came before us.
*He was referring to multiple runes, not just othala, being seen as hate symbols. Also worth noting that if you see othala with little "feet" on it like this in relation to any person or group, you are absolutely dealing with Nazis and should run the other way.
**I followed this meditation up by talking with Odin, and he very much confirmed this. He reminded me that the tools of all languages are always here for us to utilize.

It's actually fascinating what information organizations include for their demographics
My hospital profile lists me as lutheran (I'm not; my family are), and obviously they have jewish as a whole category. They have three different "types" of lutheran (I still don't know the differences between these), jainism, native american (I wonder if native religions have names; surely you can't lump them all as one big category when there are three lutheranisms listed?), and zoroastrianism (which is extra neat considering zoroastrians make up around 0.0029-0.01% of the population of the USA and we live in a very small town), and a few other options
But then the only ethnic background you can choose is ashkenazi jew? No sephardi, no mizrahi, just ashki? Yes, it is true that more ashki jews emigrated to the USA and therefore make up the majority of the population of USA jews, but ashki aren't the only "types" of jews with an ethnic background 😭

there's this acronym in German that's called FLINTA, standing for women, lesbians, intersex, nonbinary, trans and agender, and like. I do get why they use that. But if you say this is a FLINTA-only event that is literally the easiest way ever to make sure I never ever go there. Because most of the time that's used? It just means 'this thing is for people we consider women but we can't say that because we're progressive'

it's nice and all, genuinely, for people to say that they empathize with the asexual community and acknowledge the basic existence of ace people, but like, the validity of asexuality has never been the focal point of discourse within the queer community. obv it's not like that was never a part of the "discussion", but queer aphobes have always been chiefly concerned with the encroachment of asexuality into queer spaces, and whether or not we "deserve" to be a part of the queer community at large. which is, of course, a ridiculous line of questioning: aces and aros experience documented (if under-reported), meaningful discrimination and oppression through pathologization and a lack of/limited access to the material benefits of nuclear family & romantic partnership*, among other mechanisms. even barring that, the framework of asexual and aromantic oppression is for sure distinct from that of other queer identities, but the sheer number of ways the ace community's goals intersect with the goals of the queer community overall lends more than enough justification for us to acknowledge them as deeply interconnected. whether you're chill about aces simply choosing to identify as such in your vicinity is not actually that relevant to the equation
*to be clear, it's not exactly that aces are prevented from entering these beneficial relationships that makes it oppressive, it's the fact that being excluded from them makes it tangibly harder to exist in society. we should question why there are social/governmental/financial incentives to participate in institutions like marriage in the first place

My brain can't handle random prompts; if I don't give it a theme, it turns Inktober into a story (successfully with Mousie & Chicken, biting off more than I could chew with the magical arctic adventure).
But this year the 'official' prompts themselves have a very obvious theme.
Suddenly my desire to make a narrative has completely evaporated. Not sure if this is innate rebellion or if I need more challenge or what, but I have absolutely zero desire to make pictures that tell a little story once it's obvious what kind of little story I'm supposed to tell.
