I've looped around from finding the belief that The Wizard of Oz was "the first color film" or "first technicolor film" understandable if wrong to finding it deeply annoying
Like. I get how it feels true - how the transition from sepia to technicolor in the film feels epochal, and how it's a springboard to people imagining how AMAZING and how AWESTRUCK audiences must've been at the time, but it just isn't the case, and no one in 1939 would've thought it was the first color film.
I mean, you've probably seen Snow White (1937) and Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). At the time color features were becoming more common, and they had been common in cartoons and shorts for years.
On a base level, if The Wizard of Oz was such a monumental moment in film history, giving people something they've never seen before, why did it only break even at the box office? By all accounts while not a flop it did decently but not great, and it only became a Cherished Classic thanks to TV airings later on. I mean, 1939 saw what is still, if adjusted for inflation, the highest grossing film ever made, and it wasn't The Wizard of Oz
Here is the actual history of color: most silent films were tinted, most commonly with different scenes being all tinted different colors, but more rarely hand-coloring. But back then people started experimenting with many different "true" color film systems, most of which failed for one reason or another, and there were a couple silent features made in two-strip technicolor, which had a more limited palette. At the start of the sound era, some black & white scenes would have color segments; this stage has been largely forgotten bc in many cases, the color segments don't survive & we only have them in black and white. Then three-strip technicolor began and became the dominant form of color until the late 1950s, with the first full-length three-strip technicolor film being 1935's classic...Becky Sharp. Which did decently, and got one Oscar nom for Best Actress, but didn't really become a classic. And then color films became more common until they became the norm in the 1960s
But it has to be a classic, right? It can't just be some random movie that ushered in technicolor. It has to be a famous movie everyone's heard of. It can't have been a gradual process touched by many individual artists, it has to be something one Great Man ushered in overnight, and the crowds were amazed, bc they had just been waiting for someone to Do Color Film so they could ditch black & white forever. It couldn't have been the case that they rejected many previous attempts at color film bc they sucked. Nothing can ever be the result of many people making many choices in many works of art, it has to be the work of one Great Work of Art that Changed Everything Instantly, and all the little people and failed experiments and less-enduring ones just have to be erased to make way
But it isn't. The transition from sepia to color in The Wizard of Oz did dazzle audiences, and still does, but that's because it's a incredibly well-done visual effect and a creative choice within the story to show the change from Kansas to Oz. We don't have to say it was important bc it was the first to do something technologically; it can be important for just being a really good movie

As someone who is acepec, the whole demi Lucanis debacle just doesn't sit right with me. He has so many dialogues that just cut off suddenly, scenes that feel like they're missing (that missive in Act 2 where he talks about dealing with Spite once and for all that just became a completely different scene with Zara??) All the concept art for the romance that was never explored. The massive difference in relationship progression between Rookanis and Nevecanis in terms of both emotional and physical intimacy.
Lucanis' romance is so clearly incomplete even in a game where the romance arcs are sparse on the whole. His character without the romance feels incomplete as well - we get two or so big moments of characterisation and everything else is just the same scene about coffee repeated as infinitum.
I have no issue with a character being awkward and inexperienced, wanting to take things slow, not recognising flirtation or romantic cues, wanting to figure out their complicated situation before jumping into something. I am that person! It took 6 months after my partner and I acknowledged we had feelings for each other for us to start dating because I was not in the right place mentally to do so. Both of us are demi. Both of us have had very few previous experiences with romantic relationships. But that doesn't preclude a person from understanding or wanting emotional intimacy.
The Lucanis situation does not come across as 'he just doesn't have sexual attraction to Rook yet', it's just complete shutdown of conversation on all fronts (something he does not do with Neve, btw.) I too find flirting scary from people I don't know and agonised over it before my partner and I were together. This is not how he's written. His expressions do not reflect shock or awkwardness when Rook flirts, nor does his tone when he responds. Do you know when he does do this? With Neve right at the start of their banter. And he overcomes that shyness quickly. He just does not acknowledge Rook speaking at all the same way any video game character does when their conversation tree is bugged, the game decided to cut some response dialogue and just transitioned directly into the neutral follow-up line. He isn't rejecting emotional intimacy because of Spite and the Ossuary prison because during the ambient dialogue it's clear he's sharing that emotional intimacy with Neve waaaaay before Rook helps him.
I just want more of his writing. Where is he and his character in this story? He's so incredibly inaccessible to us. And I know people will say that characters do not have to be emotionally available to the player (which is true! A great example of this working well is Vivienne, who is warm but not directly open if befriended.) But that should then be a consistent character trait, and it's clearly not. In fact, Lucanis is incredibly declarative about his feelings for Rook romanced or not once you hit Act 3, he's just completely missing in Act 2. Which to me is a flaw in the game's structure. And that 'missing-ness' is being read as demisexuality instead of 'hey this character's writing is actually incomplete and needs restructuring and additional scenes.' Those additional scenes could very much be as awkward and non-romantic in tone as you please, but we needed more of them. Have Lucanis visit Treviso more often to do things other than drink coffee. Have him visit other locations as well! Teach Rook how to cook a local dish, the gondola fight we saw in the concept art. Deciding after the game's poor reception that a character who is clearly only 3/4s of a character, who is lacking in so much characterisation, is the demi character? That feels bad man. Demi characters should be written with just as much care and attention, should get to express themselves in as wide a variety of circumstances, show us more of themselves and how they interact with the world. The reality is that Lucanis has the weakest romance arc in the game, and posthumously attributing that to demisexuality feels like an indictment of acespec people's ability to read the room and express emotional intimacy rather than a true attempt at representing us.
Just as Cullen's heterosexuality and preference for elves and humans is in fact a game development constraint rather than a character writing decision, and Solas' heterosexuality was a result of running out of dev time to record voice lines and re-rig cutscenes, I think we should be able to acknowledge that this version of Lucanis is not a good representation of his character in multiple ways. And that is due primarily to the development cycle rather than writerly intention.
We've had beautiful slowburn romances that were also deeply affected by character trauma throughout the Bioware series. Lucanis' is (in its present state) not one of them. Leliana, Cullen, even Alistair. I think using demisexuality or even slowburn as an 'excuse' for Lucanis' incomplete character isn't a useful way to think about his writing.
Note: This post is purely about quality of writing wrt emotional intimacy. I have zero issue with virgin Lucanis and think that fits his wider writing. I also don't wish Lucanis to be someone he's not - Zevran or Davrin or some other flirty/dommy archetype. I just don't like the casual conflation of awkwardness and inexperience with asexuality. These things do go together but also I don't think we should use demisexuality as a bandaid for poor writing because it reflects poorly on our understanding of ourselves and the community.

There are so many cool parts that it's hard to say what my favorite is, but I'm a big fan of the segment where Aoi is overwhelmed and Akane grounds her.
Not only is the transition really good (as is the entire video, bless Prisilie for working so hard on this animatic/animation), but the way he grounds her while being mostly out of frame is amazing. Big "we are so close but so incredibly far appart" vibes.

i usually don’t get into these discussions lol they’re too much trouble, but on your nightwing run rankings i honestly think it’s crazy to call devin’s run objectively bad when it’s kind of THE nightwing mythos, so many writers after were trying to do what she did. taylor’s run is entirely based off hers, some moments beat for beat, and watters is taking notes from her as well.
Also because of fandom and corporate misogyny most people hate her for reasons that are outright lies or exaggerations, so that adds to the stigma around her run with younger readers wanting to avoid it, but it is quite good
I think her Nightwing run is bad because I've read it. Her sexualization and fetishization of Dick is gross, her characterization of Dick was mid, her characterization of Babs is horrible, her approach to writing both Dick and Catalina Flores was incredibly racist, most of her plot was just trauma porn, and she spent nearly all of her 45 issues on the book destroying everything narratively that had been built up by the previous several years of writing. And this is not even touching the way she handled the rape and rape aftermath issues.
As I stated in the original ranking, there are redeeming features: her early issues with Rick Leonardi, before Catalina shows up, are much better than anything she wrote after he left the book. The transition from Dixon to Devin's run was handled well and she competently finished all of Dixon's plot threads before doing her own thing. The Renegade arc is not an objectively good piece of writing, but it's enjoyable to read and has some top-tier comedy in it re: Dick and Slade's interactions. The Wally-Babs scene after she and Dick broke up was lovely. She writes Dick and Tim's relationship well. None of those things outweigh how bad and genuinely unpleasant Devin's Nightwing run is to read overall.
As for the rest of your comments:

"THE Nightwing mythos" as we concieve of it today was actually created by Chuck Dixon. Despite his other crimes (and there are many), Dixon remains the man who created Bludhaven, moved Dick there, and did the worldbuilding necessary to make a Nightwing solo work in the first place. Everything every modern Nightwing writer does ultimately goes back to something Dixon did in the 1990s when he had near complete control over Dick Grayson's character.
In fact, every writer since Dixon has struggled with the book in part because Devin Grayson spent her 45 issues on the book systematically tearing down the foundation Dixon built (Dick's supporting cast, his rogues gallery, his relationship with Barbara, his life in general, etc) instead of building on top of it, and no one's been able to properly been able to create a new foundation since.
Like, "so many writers after her were trying to do what she did" is a HILARIOUS statement to make considering that most of Dick's writers since then (excluding Tom Taylor) generally do everything they can to ignore as much of what she wrote as feasibly possible. Are we ever bringing up Tarantula again? NOPE! Are we ever bringing up the mob infiltration arc again? NOPE! Are we ever bringing up that Haly's Circus burned to the ground and his apartment building got blown up and he got shot twice and that he stood aside and let Catalina kill Blockbuster? NOPE! The list goes on.

Bringing up Tom Taylor's run is also funny because I've actually discussed at length before how if you read Devin’s run and Taylor’s run back to back, you realize Taylor is basically just rewriting her run "BUT I CAN DO IT BETTER!!!" Blockbuster's back in town and a big deal again, DickBabs are suddenly together again despite them having been broken up since Devin's run in the mid-2000s, Dick's trying to clean up Bludhaven from the inside again (though as a philanthropist instead of a cop), Tim and Wally are randomly popping up in guest issues…he basically soft-rebooted Dick back to the Dixon era so he could write his fun little self-indulgent fanfic of what could have happened if Devin hadn’t taken over the book and destroyed Dick's life.
Which is one of the many reasons I ranked Taylor's run significantly higher than Devin's run. I prefer bland mediocrity and Taylor's ignorant #resistlib attempts to address the roots of crime to dealing with the "absolutely worst year of Dick Grayson's life" arc, and if I'm going to get Babs character assassination either way, I'd rather her be a bland supportive girlfriend than clingy and codependent at best and actively hostile at worst.
As for Watters, per his own statements what he's taking from Devin's run is the fallout from Chemo nuking Bludhaven (which happened because of Infinite Crisis and was not actually Devin's decision) and the Dick-Babs dynamic from her issues with Leonardi (which. again. are her best issues because she was basically just wrapping up Dixon's run and hadn't had time to blow anything up yet). More relevantly, he said that Snyder's The Black Mirror, Morrison's Batman and Robin (2009), and Dick's tenure as Batman in general are much more influential in terms of how he characterizes Dick and that he loves what Sam Humphries did in his short run to add depth to Bludhaven as a city. That's not exactly taking notes from Devin lmao.

Devin is not a uniformly bad writer. I genuinely enjoy her Titans (1999) run and the first few arcs of Gotham Knights (2000). She wrote a solid Stephanie Brown in the opening issue of War Games, and was apparently against killing her off. I think generally when she has to balance team dynamics and is not writing Her Personal Blorbo™ that she trauma dumps onto and self-therapizes through, many of the problems I have with her Nightwing run are largely mitigated or minimized. But she fundamentally cannot be trusted with writing Dick Grayson unless he's in a group title and not in a romantic relationship, and her Nightwing run is case in point as to why.
Anyway. I will never forgive and I will never forget her explicitly stated reasoning for why she wrote the Romani retcon ("Dick's from the circus, of course he's Romani" and "it gives him a reason to be all hot-blooded and alluring to people")! Die mad about it!

Five Hargreeves x reader
A/N: Hey guys surprise surprise. I'm posting another one shot today because unfortunately I won't be able to do it tomorrow. Have a great day :)

Five Hargreeves sighed as he walked into the cozy living room of their home, rubbing his eyes after a long day of work. As he stepped inside, he noticed a familiar scene that instantly brightened his mood: his wife Y/n sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by a scatter of old photo albums.
Y/n looked up from a particularly thick album and smiled warmly at Five. "Hey, I found something interesting in the attic today."
Five raised an eyebrow and walked over to her, intrigued. "Is that so? What did you find?"
She patted the spot next to her, and he sat down, leaning in to see the open pages filled with photographs. "I found this old photo album. It’s full of pictures from our life."
Five’s eyes softened as he gazed at the album, a flood of memories rushing back. "I remember that album. I didn’t think we still had it."
Y/n chuckled and flipped through the pages, revealing snapshots of their journey together. "Here, look at this one."
The photo showed a much younger Five and Y/n, standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, grinning from ear to ear. Five was holding a map upside down, looking completely lost, while Y/n was laughing hysterically.
“I remember that trip,” Five said, a smile tugging at his lips. “I insisted we didn’t need a guide, and we ended up lost for hours.”
Y/n laughed, leaning her head on his shoulder. “Yeah, but we found that amazing little café because of it. The one with the best croissants we’ve ever had.”
Five nodded, his smile widening. “You’re right. That was worth getting lost for.”
As they continued to flip through the pages, each photograph told a story. There was a picture of them at a Halloween party, dressed in glamorous outfits. Another showed them at a garden party, looking completely out of place yet having the time of their lives.
Five paused at a picture of them in Rome, sitting on the steps of a temple at sunrise. “That sunrise was incredible,” he murmured, tracing the edges of the photograph with his finger.
Y/n’s eyes sparkled with nostalgia. “I remember. We stayed up all night just to see it. It felt like the whole world was still asleep, and it was just us.”
The photos transitioned to more recent memories: their wedding, their first house, and the birth of their children. Five lingered on a picture of them holding their newborn daughter, Maddie, both looking exhausted yet indescribably happy.
“We’ve come a long way, haven’t we?” Five said softly, his voice tinged with emotion.
Y/n nodded, her eyes misting over. “We have. And look at us now. We’ve built a beautiful life together, despite everything.”
They turned to a picture of their son, Milo, his mischievous grin eerily reminiscent of Five’s. Five chuckled, shaking his head. “He’s going to be a handful, isn’t he?”
Y/n laughed, squeezing Five’s hand. “Just like his dad.”
The last page of the album held a recent photo: the entire Hargreeves family, including five’s siblings, gathered around a Christmas tree, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
“We’ve had our ups and downs,” Five said, his voice filled with gratitude. “But I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.”
Y/n looked up at him, her eyes filled with love. “Neither would I. We’ve made some incredible memories, and I can’t wait to make even more with you.”
Five wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. “Here’s to many more adventures, Y/n.”
They sat there in comfortable silence, the album open in front of them, reminiscing about the past and dreaming of the future. Five pressed a gentle kiss to Y/n’s temple, feeling a deep sense of contentment.
As they closed the album, Five looked at Y/n with a tender smile. “Thank you for finding this, Y/n. It’s a reminder of how strong we are together.”
Y/n leaned into him, her heart full. “Always, Five. No matter what the future holds, we’ll face it together.”
And in that moment, surrounded by the memories of their past, Five and Y/n felt more connected than ever, ready to take on whatever adventures life had in store for them next.

speaking of line rider, I decided to poke my head back into the Line Rider Review channel, which you may remember for going viral in 2017 with Rabid Squirrel's review of the top 10 tracks of the previous year on artistic grounds...

at the time, Line Rider was around ten years old; the baroque jargon and the complexity of the techniques really got people (in much the same way as pannenkoek's half a press video), so Squirrel ended up making a followup video on the jargon, a charming slice of "this person was definitely gonna transition" which serves as a good intro to what the scene was about back then...

since then there have been many developments: more complex musical sync, elaborate animation techniques, etc etc.; it's only grown. so what does line rider fandom look like in 2024?

well... everyone is trans now of course. it's gotten a lot more interested in political and emotional themes, too. the top video is an hour long feature about the author's partner's experience of figuring out they're plural, learning Japanese, as well as the grief of friends they've lost along the way, through the lens of line rider tracks they grew up with - and that's not just one person's thing either, a whooole lot of the tracks on this list are painfully sincere short film dioramas about trauma, dysphoria, abuse and similar topics. Not all of them mind - you've also got experiments that blend between line rider and stop motion, and a recreation of a classic Touhou video from the Chinese line rider scene on bilibili (there's a Chinese line rider scene on bilibili now), but it's very clear how much the taste of this subculture has shifted. I don't mean this to be too cynical - while it's easy to be a bit 'ehh' at the activist-speak of the channel, these videos are incredibly sincere and (sigh, yes, i know it's a cliche) heartfelt expressions.
i think the fascinating thing to me is that all that technical stuff in Line Rider hasn't gone away - you're still doing crazy complicated shit to fling Bosh around the screen, stop and start them, take them on and off the sled, interact with other riders, stage frame by frame animation, etc. Everything is still meticulously synced to music. But now this passes without comment for the most part! That's just the toolbox! Just as reviews of music rarely go into the specific music theory tools - chords, scales, etc. - unless they're aimed at teaching or analysing it for musicians. Line Rider videos have in a sense matured into a whole medium.
It's definitely a fascinating illustration of the ways Being Very Autistic On The Internet is changing. godspeed you guys.

So I finished Wind and Truth. Major spoilers for the cosmere.
Well, that went both so much better and so much worse than I ever could’ve expected. Not the quality of the writing or the story itself, those were so so so good.
The only prediction I made that came true was Herald Kaladin. I don’t think I ever posted about it but I have been preaching that gospel since Jezrien died. My favorite guy is immortal now!! So hopefully he’ll be around until the Cosmere comes to a close. And good lord Brandon did him so right. It’s a shame he didn’t get to spread therapy to the physical realm on Roshar very much but he’s putting those skills to extremely good use.
I never liked Szeth until this book. I love the direction he’s going in, especially the direction him and Nightblood are going. I AM NOT A THING. No talking sword has ever made me cry so much.
I never vibed with the theories that Gavinor would be Odium’s champion but I thought it was incredibly well done and I’m very excited to see what comes of him in the back half.
Rlainarin is everything I could’ve hoped for, and seeing Brandon’s growth as a writer in his representation of queer and neurodivergent characters has been so rewarding! I also love that Rlain has been given such a relevant role as Bridger of Minds. I was worried he might just become Renarin’s bf and not much more.
Adolin and Maya’s arc was so much more than I could’ve hoped for, I love the Unoathed, and hit fighting the thunderclast was one of my favorite action scenes in the cosmere.
I’m so glad Vasher is sticking around on Roshar AND training Lift??? I love Lift and can’t wait for her book in the back half.
I caught on to the Auxiliary “twist” as soon as he started calling Szeth his squire. I’m glad we got to see the beginning of Sigzil’s transition to Nomad. I’m not sure if I would recommend people reading Sunlit Man between Row and WaT or after, but I was glad I’d read Sunlit Man already. I love Sigzil so so much and really hope we get more of him than just Sunlit Man, fortunately the time dilation thing allows him time to travel the cosmere as Nomad then Zellion and still possibly come back for the back half!
Retribution, the perfect direction for this midpoint in the series. Taravangian wielding two shards that can work well together is such a huge insane threat and I can’t wait to see how the world responds to him.
Although they took a bit of a back seat I was very excited by where the Listeners ended up.
Dalinar. Good LORD Dalinar. If Kaladin didn’t exist he would easily be my favorite character, and as devastating as his death is, I’m so incredibly proud of him and his journey. Given what he was up against, he absolutely made the right decision, forcing the other shards into action. I LOOOOOOOVED him showing Honor that it’s not all about sticking to oaths, showing the power what it could be even in a dire moment like that.
The cosmere fandom is one of the only ones I actively engage with, due in no small part to the morality of its flagship series (I know I know, Mistborn’s cool too)
This is my favorite book series, I will love it until the day I die. I’m sad that there won’t be a new one for a couple years but it’s genuinely something that makes me want to be healthier so I live long enough to see the conclusion. The immortal words are etched into my heart and I will continue to do my best to live by them.

HI HELLO SHALOM INTERRO ??? THOUGHTS ??? HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT CHIEF BEING THE PERSON TO BREAK THE PARADEISOS LOBOTOMY
ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANEEEEEEEEEEE. UNBELIEVABLE. WHAT????????! they are intrinsically linked together. at once by the shackles, paradeisos, loss of self, mutual liberation and their inevitable end perceived by others. they’re literally the same. shalom pre-lobotomy is chief pre-awakening; refusing to be controlled, full of vitality, hatred and defiance (as defined by having freedom). i have so many thoughts in my head and it’s hard to concretize them all but the language shalom used to talk about how chief opened the door for doubt in her mind stroke me, it’s so violent. “rift” “corrupting” “shattering” “beast/monster” “tore me apart”… it really conveyed how shocking of a transition it must have been for her to suddenly feel those “unnecessary emotions” that had been taken from her for 8 years. even more, it must be so surreal to understand that you’ve been dissected in two, dehumanized and objectified while simultaneously being able to gaze upon that part of yourself that cries in indignation. if she was truly emotionless it wouldn’t mean a thing, but she’s not… she’s so incredibly self-aware. i think this is what makes it so sad for me, knowing you have an expiration date based on your usefulness because you were “made” for one purpose while being able to feel pleasure and have desires, etc— to understand the weight of what has been snatched from you by people who think themselves righteous when they’re really just a bunch of fear-stricken cowards would have anybody go crazy. seeing what paradeisos did to her made me so sick. the apathy with which they treat every threat to themselves is shocking but straight up mocking her will to live for herself by calling the monster they’ve made using (a part of) her Rebel made my stomach churn like that is so disgusting… shalom is aware of the severity of what paradeisos did to her and it’s sick that she has to risk everything just for less than a 1% chance of success that doesn’t even include her survival mind you. im just SICKK


to think she was so full of life and fighting spirit and is now reduced to “resigned” looks and smiles, compared to an instrument and a doll— oh my god sev it made me so uncomfortable. i know that during the loyalty test in the consciousness observatory or whatever, she was essentially embodying paradeisos but reading her being described as “doll-like” “void” and such was so tough… for chief to get that impression of her being an empty shell, expression that shalom uses again in the end to describe herself, then for shalom wonder if she’s even human afterwards made me so sadddd 😭 i do like these two excerpts though because i feel like it describes the duality of her character well, the surface level at least. the fact that she is capable of being genuine and has mastered the art of “embodying paradeisos” so that they wouldn’t notice that flaw makes her impossible to figure her out without diving into her psyche. even chief couldn’t understand her fully, she wont be able to now that she’s forgotten her. she’s so wonderfully complex and her interrogation portrayed that concept super well.


ive talked about shalom and her smiles before but another thing that’s always struck me as odd was that she kinda laughed too much for an unfeeling robot. im not talking about her cute little chuckles either, yeah sometimes it’s only to add to her manipulation but at the end of flora unfurl, when all of her plans were coming to fruition and in the face of coquelic’s rage, she was laughing then still. her laughs and smiles are sometimes so inappropriate but her laughter especially stood out to me and i didnt really know why until this one scene… it takes more effort to fake a laugh than to fake a smile like she does all the time; from what i remember she wasn’t mocking coquelic or being unnecessarily cruel, but when she burst out laughing i was so confused exactly because it felt unnecessary and out of place, like what happened in that scene. laughter is often accompanied by emotion and during a time where rationality couldn’t explain the motive behind her action, schorl immediately scanned her for defects like that’s insane. the level of scrutiny she’s constantly under is impossibly oppressive— “try to rectify such purposeless physicalities”?! cant even laugh anymore because of woke. can’t voice her thoughts, can’t be fully genuine with the person who freed her from rationality, she literally cannot do shit omg. all of herself has to be available to paradeisos’ sterile gaze every second of every day… she’s used to that scrutiny but ughhh it’s not fair and it’s not how human beings are treated. shalom i will save you from this prison if it’s the last thing i do


despite it all, she has her small pleasures and it makes me want to scream and die. the way she “plays” with schorl by having it scan her meaninglessly, how she enjoys catching people off guard and observing their reactions, the way she’s always making fucking jokes?! so important to me. shes so unserious. shalom making jokes that fall flat because they’re in the middle of a heavy topic or issue is so important to me. “haha your garden’s better off with me than dead right? kidding, heh” and “why should i give a fuck about humanity?… just kidding! love these people” is so 😭😭😭 i genuinely find her hilarious because she doesn’t relieve any tension at all, she is NOT meant to be comedic relief 😭
back to her and chief tho…… is it not absolutely crazy how she was acting like they were once married with three kids before chief got amnesia. mind you they met ONCE before, officially. ONE TIME. and she was like “you made a lasting impression on me” “we’re friends” “i wanted to see you/my own subtle yearning to see you again” “we held hands like this once before… i still remember the touch” “being apart from you, i cant help but worry” SLOW DOWWWWWWN. MY GOODNESS. i know chief changed her life but shalom was so intense from the get go like she wants that cookie so effing bad. they used the words “tender” “intimate” and “gently” too often for me to believe they dont want each other like. and why was the hand holding written like a fanfiction— matter of fact, this whole thing was written like a fanfiction because why am i reading about the exposed skin of shalom’s collarbone, her pushing chief onto her bed then essentially climbing into it as well to whisper in her ear WHILE encouraging her to choke her?!?!?!?! what was even happening. lesbians make me sick. what a freak. i actually dont know how many times ive called shalom a freak while playing the first 2 interro phases



wish i could add all the screenshots from the choking scene but tumblr’s a BITCH. but this whole thing was insane. LIKE INSANE. this is gayer than 000 kissing chief. this is gayer than being a housewife for the assassin that kidnapped you. reconnecting with an old “friend” you cant remember yet feel an undeniable familiarity and connection towards and allowing yourself to be vulnerable and exposed in front of her regardless of ulterior motives… soulmates across space and time and circumstance idkkk, at the end of the day the one who can understand shalom the best if given a real chance is chief idc they’re mirror images of each other. shalom was so genuine in the interrogation room despite chief being suspicious of her like im sure of it now. the fact that they freed each other is forever ingrained in my heart, that is the most precious gift they could’ve given to each other even if it was done unconsciously from chief’s part. ALSO the fact that the one moment we hear the most emotion from shalom is when she’s at chief’s bedside telling her to come back? yeah. exactly.

let me stop yapping but there are many things that are escaping me that made me go “holy fuck”, i have a hundred screenshots and recordings just from her interro like it really blew my mind. shalom’s character is a bit clearer to me now and it really does put everything into perspective aaaaaa im aching to write for her properly this time

Part 2 of semi-comprehensive list of people talking about/reacting to Naruto and Sasuke's feelings for each other, but this time it's centered on Sasuke. Part 1 is [here].

My favorite moments:
4. Itachi thinking about Naruto being a guide for Sasuke (Chapter 576: Signposts). I've discussed it more in depth [here]. Kishimoto specifically singled out Naruto as someone who made Sasuke stray from the path Itachi laid out for him on multiple occasions (i.e., Land of Waves, Forest of Death, VOTE 1), so I love that it was textually acknowledged by Itachi himself. I also like that it emphasized the importance of Sasuke's agency in choosing Naruto ("You ought to decide your own journey.")


3. Sai provoking Sasuke by mentioning Naruto's name (Chapter 301: Sai & Sasuke!!).



It's been discussed [here], so I won't add too much, but I will say that I love how it's similar to Sai provoking Naruto by mentioning Sasuke's name just chapters earlier (Chapter 288: Feelings...?). Given that the Sai/Sasuke interaction started with a transition from Naruto's intense and determined face to Sasuke's face, it seems even more intentional. Even amidst Naruto and Sasuke being opposed during Part 2, we get hints that Sasuke is still the same boy who was willing to tell off Sakura for being rude towards Naruto.



And of course, it is textually confirmed that Naruto's status as Sasuke's closest friend never changed throughout Part 2.


2. Orochimaru and Kabuto talking about Naruto's effect on Sasuke and his heart (Chapter 88: What About Sasuke...!?) will always be a certified classic.



I've written about what Kabuto observed, how this scene is a part of the larger heart symbolism that Kishimoto recurrently used for Naruto and Sasuke, how Kishimoto referenced this scene in Sasuke's final monologue, and how this moment even has wider implications in Boruto. It's simply a rich and layered scene, and it's underrated as far as Naruto and Sasuke's yin and yang symbolism goes. This is the first textually explicit hint we get at Naruto being Sasuke's light, but it's overlooked in favor of more dramatic scenes like Sasuke's journey into darkness immediately transitioning into Naruto with the sun above his head (Chapter 234: Parting Ways...!!) or the rising when Naruto and Sasuke reconciled (Chapter 698: Naruto and Sasuke, Part 5).



1. Of course, everything goes back to Sasuke sacrificing himself for Naruto, his precious person in the Land of Waves (Chapter 27: Awakenings). It's just an incredibly heartfelt and romantic moment. The build-up of foreshadowing about Sasuke being about to see something while protecting Naruto, Haku specifically targeting Naruto because he knew Naruto would be Sasuke's weakness, Sasuke's "last words" being about Naruto, Sasuke including the kiss as a reason for his sacrifice... everything about the scene is just perfection. There's a reason this pivotal moment was called back more than once.



I also quite like how Kishimoto discussed the scene of Sasuke protecting Naruto by talking about the non-surface level aspects of Naruto that Sasuke likes (ちょっといいな) + using a term that's significantly used in the context of budding crushes when used to refer to another person. Not a coincidence given Sasuke thought of of kiss in his memories.

I think I want Assassin’s Creed to be a psychological horror series real bad. It’s not even that the seeds aren’t there. Buckwild that Desmond goes literally completely crazy and they put him in a coma and hook him up to the animus so that the literal Ghost in the Machine, the last guy they killed with the Animus, could make him not crazy and then they went right back to Ezio Adventures™️
Ubisoft would never, but the idea of a game with that significant a tone shift between gameplay modes goes incredibly hard for me. Just this creeping idea in the back of your mind that while you, the player, have fun, and the operators make jokes, and you unravel the mysteries of the past, the person whose brain you’re playing the game on is melting.
Like the concept of Bleeding is purpose built to make normal and instinctual game mechanics, design cues and UI elements uncanny. What if you the middle of a modern mission sent you into the animus loading screen? What if you heard a chime and tipped your head and spun and spun and spun and searched for nothing at all, that chime didn’t indicate anything. Why would it? What would chime in this regular office building? Why would something you need to find chime?
What if a new chapter started and you got halfway through a mission before everything broke down and you remembered that they never had a scene where they put you in? That there were clues in how the other characters talked, subtle ones, accent, word choice, the kind of anachronism in topic you could only notice if you were paying attention to vague references? What if there was more blood than there should be? What if you got on transit and waited for the transition and it didn’t happen, you had to ride until it dawned on you that the carriage was actually a subway, or the El or a bus instead.

been thinking about posting some unfinished/unpolished stuff that i'm pretty sure i won't go back to work on, they are just sitting on my folders and it makes me a little sad
this is gonna be a long post (because I feel like I can't post it without explaining what they were meant to be), I decided to just make a single one with all of them so yea !
This is my Novo Amor propaganda that I never finished. I think this song is very felds-coded, and the animatic was really just to illustrate the lyrics since I think they fit very well.
So it shows feldspar reflecting about their poor choices and mistakes, and wanting to just. give up. But then hatchling shows up, somehow, to rescue them. And with coming back to timber hearth, reuniting with their friends and family, with time they eventually start coming to terms with everything that's happened and readjusting to life in timber hearth.
That entire segment that repeats "but I'll breath, I'm bored of how, bored of now" would be of scenes of that, starting with them reuniting with slate, gossan, gneiss, then being taken care of/patched up from living in poor conditions in dark bramble to then finally enjoying life with others (I ended up only adding rockettrio but I wanted to have them fishing with spinel, going for a hike/walk in the woods with tektite and maybe arkose, playing with hatchlings, joining the orchestra with everyone.... those things)
Slate is also there, because I thought it would be fun to have the transition with the museum photo to feldspar making their way to giant's deep and then dark bramble. And I like some slate angst (shocking)
This is like the most finished one from the post, so it's going first on the list.
(If you like the song i cannot recommend Novo Amor enough. They have many songs with OW vibes imho. And some that are just plain great. If you're curious which ones I associate with the silly aliens feel free to ask)

This was an experimentation of sorts. The idea was to reference those flashing lights in parties that makes it looks like you are living in a low fps world. Very trippy. But instead of black between "frames", it alternates between slate and feldspar dancing and the moments they had together, from the begging as kids, to teenagers, to young adults working on the OWV and to the final breakdown aka, a fight that led feldspar leaving in a rush and anger to never to be seen again, leaving a helpless slate behind (this was inspired by the first chapter of awanderingmuse's fic Find Your Buddy which I highly recommend!)
Since the song kinda talks about dancing instead of talking your feelings out, I feel like it fits with the fight being drowned out by them dancing in a different moment.
Fun fact: I got hit with The Visions for this animatic the same day I got hit with The Visions for the neujauciu meiles animatic. Which was not fun for my brain, I spent one hour staring at krita not knowing which one to start

You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate by @settiai. Doctor Who. Amy/Rory. This is the first vid I think of when I think of this pairing, I can’t get enough of it!
For Your Entertainment by such_heights Legends of Tomorrow. Again there is something exquisite about using this song for this source. Legends of Tomorrow is so cracky and bizarre. This vid made in the earliest seasons of the show while it was airing and fucking nails it. The legends truly are here for our entertainment, bwah.
Groove is in the Heart by giandujakiss. Doctor Who/Torchwood up through 2007. This is an oldie for sure but it’s so firmly embedded in my brain that this song now exists because of this vid. The vibes of the song is really wonderful and fun. Nine and Ten, Rose and Martha and Jack Harkness and Torchwood and friends and lovers. I love how it transitions from Nine to Ten and Torchwood and back again to Doctor Who.
True Love by @findmeinthealps. Cobra Kai OT4!! This vid is such a treat because it is a tapestry of slash and Johnny and Daniel’s love for their partners throughout and and and. They all just fit together, okay. One big karate family. Each section of this vid is more delightful and full of LOVE than the next.
Take On Me Doctor Who by @trelkez. Doctor Who, classic and New Who through 2010. I heartily rec all of trelkez vids, and especially all the Doctor Who vids. Picking this one out for this list was a no brainer. There’s just something wonderful about A-Ha being used for the partnership and adventure in this show. The part at 2:01 always makes me grin because trelkez has a great sense of musicality and humor.
Garden of Your Mind by @sandalwoodbox. Critical Role, Dungeons and Dragons. This is about storytelling and imagination. AND it utilizes a really cool remix of Mr. Roger’s voice. It’s so beautiful and I cry lots about it because I’m a sap and it’s really that powerful.
Life Less Ordinary by di_br / @why-the-face. Doctor Who. Nine/Rose. Di’s vids were my go-to when I started vidding back in 2007 and I was obsessed with all her Doctor Who vids. It turns out I still am obsessed. This vid makes my heart so warm and fuzzy and I absolutely have to rec this one after all these years because the Nine/Rose feelings are off the chart and span space and time.
I Do Adore by @kiki-miserychic. Adventure Time. Princess Bubblegum/Marceline. This is another oldie, and also for a show I've never seen but always been a fandom-in-law. This vid is so, so so sweet and sapphic and shows me exactly why Bubbline was so beloved.
Carries On by @monkeyswithjetpacks. Jim Henson and The Muppets. This vid brings the big cry about, too. It’s a wonderful tribute to Jim Henson and his work. I really love the music choice here which is The Magnetic Zeroes and there’s such a wide array of different sources from behind the scenes and the muppet shows. It is so beautiful.

He had been extremely clear, no siblings. James Hook was knowingly a flirt, a Casanova even. He loved the chase, cat and mouse was his favorite game, but even he had limits. No siblings. It would only make problems in their little group; stir a pot that already lived on the brink of bubbling over. Of course, James and Uliana were the only ones who had ever had a sibling in the school, it feels a touch biased. But when Uliana saw his sister, when she really got to know her, all bets were off. If you were to ask the sea witch, the female pirate was double everything her brother was. Twice the flirting, twice the intelligence, double the brawn, and double the trouble. Were she a siren, Uliana would have had her under the spell of her song before she could understand what was happening to her. The best part of it was, she didn’t have to, there was absolutely no need to spell her. (Y/n) had approached her, cocky and arrogant, well aware of what she wanted. What she wanted originally was to piss off her brother, the boy had swooped in on a girl she’d been flirting with and stole her affections. Something that simply wouldn’t do in (Y/n)’s book, what else was she to do except for going after one of his friends? Scores had to be evened, didn’t they?
Except that, one fake date turned into two, then three. It doubled into six. And somehow, some way, the two went from only acting like a couple where Hook could see them to snuggling in one of their dorms until the wee hours of the morning. The kisses quit being preformative and started feeling incredibly natural. Both girls swearing -and instantly regretting- that Castlecoming would be their one last outing. They would be done harassing Hook for the fun of it, but surely going to the dance together would be a better look for their group. It would look less suspicious if at least two couples showed up in the group right? Who would think they were there to pull a prank if they were dancing so close to someone? But when the two girls were slow dancing to “This is Love” as what they swore was a goodbye, (Y/n) couldn’t help but lean into Uliana’s lips. It was more real, more raw, not preformative like it should have been. And the sea witch, ever smitten with the first mate, couldn’t help but kiss her back. Not much changed between them after that. The girls simply went from “girlfriends” to girlfriends. A silent and seamless transition that no one outside of the two would have noticed. Never sharing the fact that they were ever a fake relationship to begin with. They decided that somethings got to just be theirs, their own secrets they’d take to their graves.
It drove her twin brother mad. Especially in situations like this one. If Hook wanted to see his sister, he would go find her. She was not meant to be in Uliana’s dorm; her face nuzzled into the sea witch’s neck, Uli’s nails ghosting up and down the girl’s spine. The scene was too domestic, too cuddly, and he hated to admit it to himself, a touch romantic. That is not what he wanted to see while coming to ask- or more so beg-Uliana for something. “Hey, so Morgie and I need-“ she cuts him off with a snappy wave, her fingers pinching together in a sharp movement. “Do you have eyes, genius?” He does evidently, as they roll into the back of his head, his eyebrows raising with the motion. “Obviously.” “Then you can see that she’s asleep. Lower your voice or get out,” she’s whisper-yelling, holding her girl ever so slightly closer. As if his only goal in coming to her dorm was to harass his sister, like he knew she’d be there asleep. The two of them could be so exhausting. “So Morgie and I need to get a memory erasing spell, can you do that or do I need Maleficent’s help?” The snappy tone in his lowered voice earns him a pointed glare, a near-snarl painted on the girl’s lips. “What did you two geniuses do to need a memory erasing spell?” He waves her off, “Doesn’t matter. You or Mali?” She sighs, looking from one Hook to the other, “When would you need it by?” The boy smiles, convinced he’s succeeded in the task at hand. Surely Morgie was doing much worse trying to get the spell from Maleficent. He was winning now. “Preferably in the next 30 minutes?” She lets out sound vaguely similar to a hum, a very condescending hum. “What, Uli?” “Go get Mali to do it,” she grumbles the words, pulling the girl on her side ever closer, “I’m a very busy woman.”
He turns on his heel, head moving nearly animated as he speaks, mocking her, “I’m a very busy woman. God what do you want Uli? My voice? My soul? My blessing? You’re never getting that last one by the way. Siblings are still off limits!” Despite the snappy tone and rolled eyes he closes her door so softly you can barely hear the latch catch. He might not like the scene ahead of him, but his sister deserved her rest. He’d been on a pirate ship with the girl -and lived with her in general - long enough to know how badly she struggled to fall asleep. He’d never dare to genuinely mess with her needs. And Hook might never admit it, but if you looked at his face, you would be able to see the softest smile on the boy’s lips. A quiet sense of pride towards the fact that she found someone to put her above everything, it was something comforting. As if they all deserved a happy ending of their own rights.

Uliana honestly couldn’t care less that her girlfriend’s brother could come in at any point. The hideout was hers; she could be all over (Y/n) there if she wanted to. Laying on that old sea shell chair, her lover lying beneath her while she rests her head on her chest. The pirate’s hand rubs over her lover’s back, creating a heart littered pattern on the fabric of the girl’s top. She peppers Uli’s forehead with kisses, humming a soft tune between them that the sea witch pretends she doesn’t know. It’s intimate, a quiet, cuddly display that tells her everything she needs to know.
It was rare to see, (Y/n) knew it was rare to receive as well. Uliana was not one to give herself away to comfort. She had a need to be seen as a dominant, be seen as evil and strong. But she needed her girlfriend. Her arms were so warm, her hands so gentle and calculated in their movements. It made Hook being her twin all the more confusing. The boy was so fiery, making rash decisions and clumsy mistakes. Perhaps that’s why she was the first mate, he was the yin to her yang. She was the needed calm to his storm. And if she was honest, Uliana often wished he would be okay that she was standing in the eye of that storm. Not that she would ever admit to that.
“So, Dollbaby, do you have any interest in telling me what has your feathers all ruffled?” She shakes her head silently, leaning further into her lover’s touch. “Come on, there’s nothing to hide from, love. It’s just me, just us. I want you to talk to me.” Her eyes flicker up to the adoring and soft face of (Y/n) Hook, her smile calming the witch slightly. “Got a letter from Ursula.” She knew better than to push on something like that, instead pulling the sea witch up ever so slightly. Their lips meet the moment she’s close enough. A soft and needy thing, nearly lazy in its motions. Uliana’s hand find’s (Y/n) jaw, a slight smile being pressed against her lips before she goes back to kissing her. The hand on her back pulls her closer, lips coming ever so slightly parted which Uliana’s partner quickly takes advantage of. It was the easiest way to comfort the girl, making her your full focus. Who cares what others want from you when you have one person who brings you in like air? Like you were what kept oxygen in their lungs. At least that’s how Uliana felt, and (Y/n) had no interest in convincing her of otherwise.
A gag comes from the entryway to the hideout, interrupting what could have been an extremely sweet moment. The soft laughter that follows the sound is immediately recognized as Maleficent and Hades, telling the kissing girls exactly who the gag came from. “Oh, leave them alone, Hook. They’re cute,” Morgie is giggling, watching Uliana move to sit up from where she previously rested on her partner’s chest. “Yeah Hook, we’re cute.” Dark eyes, looking at the cocky sea witch like he would bite her. “If you want to be all over my sister, you could at least go somewhere with an actual door. Don’t make me watch you treat her like a piece of meat.” Her eyes roll, smiling as she feels an arm wrap around her from behind. (Y/n)’s body heat finding its way back to warming Uliana up. “For your information, James, I was kissing her. That’s normally how it goes,” if Uliana were to turn around she’d see a cocky smirk on her lover’s face. The girl’s brow raised as if daring Hook to argue with her. “I don’t need to know all that. Don’t tell me all of that.” She giggles, turning her attention back to her girlfriend, pressing little kisses to Uliana’s shoulder. And he fake gags again, though when (Y/n) looks up she can see the soft smile on his face. He could hate them, not really. Not with how happy they both visibly were. It made it almost not worth teasing them, just almost. He could accept that having them next to each other would just have to double his troubles.

I saw TUTS Newsies last night and here are some little things I noticed and also thoughts and opinions because I have them!
The *second* the actor stepped on stage, @jlmjlmjlm leans over to me and says “He is SO Davey” and I 1000% agree. Costume, acting, the way he held himself? Perfection. THE Davey of all time
((Davey was the show stealer for me honestly. He was so fucking good. Put his whole Davussy into everything. Probably the best tenor in the show and also a great dancer))
PULITZER HAS A RUSSAIN/EUROPEAN ACCENT??
In the first circulation gate scene where Davey is introduced, Race sits on a stack of newspapers and continuously drums on them, kind of in his own little world, incredible ADHD coded
In the transition after the “That’s disgusting/that’s business” scene, Les spits on his hand and shoves it in Davey’s face. Davey moves out of the was but cracks the fuck up. It’s so siblings and so damn cute
Davey tries to follow Jack when he goes up to the box to speak with Katherine, but Jack stops him
The scene before TWWK shows Davey as MUCH more conflicted than livesies. He’s not standing with the newsies, he’s in the middle of the stage and keeps looking back between the circulation gate and them and finally goes with the newsies to strike and it’s SO GOOD
Honestly this whole scene Davey is SUCH A FUCKING LEADER and it’s amazing! Not only Jack, but the rest of the newsies keep looking for to him for guidance on the strike and it’s very funny but also so good. I think this might be my favorite Davey yet.
In the Seize the Day fight scene, one of the goons picks up Les and Davey and a few other newsies go to help him and then use him as a battering ram
“The woild is… *dramatic pause, looks off into distance* ya erster!” “Ya what?” 😒 “*redoes dramatic pause* Ya erster!”
No tap break for KONY :(
But Katherine and Davey are BESTIESSSSS! She stands on the table and says “Alright Davey!”
Davey also ate during this dance scene and left not a single crumb
“Is that a real place? Is that—”*Davey takes off his hat and holds it to his heart and looks up to the sky like he’s swooning* “Santa Fe?”
The way they hid Katherine from Jack in Pulitzer’s office was SO FUCKING FUNNY. Pulitzer tells her to sit before Jack comes in and she does, but as soon as the door opens she makes the shrek meme face and spins the chair around and slides her back down the chair to hide and it was SO GOOD that actress was so fantastic!
When Davey is speaking at the rally before Jack gets there, one of the newsies shouts “YOU TELL EM DAVEY!” And it’s very cute and funny, these newsies looooove Davey
Oh my god the POST RALLY TRANSITION??? Is fucking amazing. Jack takes the money off to the side and disappears. Spotlight on Davey and the Manhattan newsies all forming a line on the apron. They all start looking for Jack, calling for him and no one can find him so they all look to DAVEY and start crowding him like “what do we do?” And Davey has no idea what to do, gets overwhelmed and runs offstage, all of the newsies following him
Before Once And For All, Katherine and Davey have an off to the side moment and give each other little hi-fives
*thick Russian accent* “It’s a compromise we can all live with”
“What’s Santa Fe got that New York ain’t? Sandstorms?”
When Jack and Katherine kiss at the very end of the show, all the newsies lose their shit and Davey is the ONLY one who doesn’t clap for them akdhsjsj
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with and looooved how Davey-centric it was! One of my favorite Davey’s ever. He and Kath totally stole the show. Great experience and probably the best birthday present ever in the history 💞💞
