Each journey to an unknown place Brought challenges they had to face Where differences were set aside, Inspiring people nationwide. And though some died, in every case They boldly went. - Randal A. Burd, Jr This year had marked a huge shift in our culture. Horrible things had to happen in order to initiate that shift. And we all saw it. We ALL saw it, the second George Floyd died. People have been called out, cancelled, corrected. Things that would have been pushed under the rug, are not anymore, are brought into daylight to examine and dissect, however uncomfortable. I feel things that I didn’t feel last year. I’m more aggressive about my beliefs in human rights, injustice, inequality, and disparity of wealth. One of my goals for 2020 is to establish a better sense of my ethnic roots, and to get in touch with the #lowernicolaindianband (the band I and my family have roots in) and learn more about my indigenous background. I’d love to learn about their spiritual beliefs and traditions a lot more. I’ve experienced some of the culture growing up, but I feel like I’ve never given it the spotlight it deserves in my life. Honestly, we’re all gonna remember this pandemic and the scars it’s imposed on our society.... but I will never, ever forget the streets filled with people and voices, all striving for a cause the human race needs, all together. Trauma. There’s been so much pain that was continuously being passed down from generation to generation in my family. The repercussions are all too real and vivid. This year was a tough one, but it gave me plenty of time to self reflect and focus on the things that matter to me. You can’t help others if you can’t help yourself. You can’t love others fully until you love yourself entirely. I feel this is a journey for a lot of us this year. I know I’m not alone and I want you to know I’m in it with you. Together I hope we can make the world a better place; sharing love and respect with one another. I hope we can help each other through these times while we celebrate our similarities and learn about our differences. Let us be pioneers to create the change we wish to see. Heal that trauma and help others find their peace. That is my wish and mission. Love yourself fully and spread that love to the world. Respect yourself, others, and nature. Life is too short to be bitter and angry! The world deserves a little more harmony. We need more love, less war.
