I do not read the fighting manga for the fighting. I read it for the random lines the characters spout during the fighting that makes me immediately tear up, close the manga reading app, and walk into the ocean.
#I don't know where this came from but I had zero patience for Krieg.#I was waiting for Krieg to Not Be There Anymore the entire arc#one piece#And it's not like he did anything specifically to annoy me I was just vindictively indifferent to him. The whole time.#I call him Craig#it wasn't on purpose at first but I'm bad at vowels and then I committed#and it's like Sanji - Zeff - buddies#I get everyone's going to eat that's non-negotiable I respect that#Invent a brig#Invent a brig for your establishment#Put guys in brig before food#Then food#Then miraculously make them the strongest peak of living food.#It's the honor before reason show#these characters have their Paramount Principles that they WILL adhere to no matter what practical problems it causes

If you reread the Dance portion of Fire and Blood after spending near any amount of time reading about how Empress Matilda was written about — not about Matilda herself, not the history, but specifically the historiography about how chroniclers and historians constructed narratives around Matilda — the story, Rhaenyra's story, becomes a lot less "ambiguous."
GRRM doesn't just know history, he knows historiography. He knew what he was doing. And it's a shame, and a little troubling, that so many people — including the writers of HotD — don't see it.
#fire and blood#asoiaf#defending rhaenyra out of principle#it's sus how so many people seem determined to commit to uncharitable interpretations#when that was THE WHOLE POINT#that how you interpret Rhaenyra says far more about you than it does about her#and if reading that made you angry or defensive you might want to think about WHY#rhaenyra targaryen#team black#because 'team green' is an invention to drive engagement#hotd critical#hotd sexism#anti team green#hotd

send help i can't stop making knitting patterns
(no idea how these will knit up, but if you want to try any of them you're very welcome, i have motif modules in another excel sheet which I can share. pattern width ranges from 6 rows for the red mushrooms, to 16 rows for the trees/flowers one. Most of them are 8 rows.)
#knitting#colourwork#pattern design#fibrecrafts#fair isle#i was like. ah yes the jumper i keep meaning to make. lemme just ideate some patterns for that.#THREE HOURS LATER...#some of these are common patterns but in a very jormy move i invented them from first principles anyway#some of them are also like. i dyed the yarn for this project? so some of them are inspired by the dyes#like the mushrooms are bc there's a bunch of fungal dyes in there#the trees are because we tried larch (unsuccessfully)#there's also heather/foxgloves#and ONIONS please LOOK AT MY FUN ONION PATTERN#also feat. hobbies such as “sword” and “archery” and “knit”#day 14

Just remembered that Armand met Lestat around the time Kant's Groundwork came out and had the incredibly cursed thought "what if instead of discovering the theater, grimy obsessive scrupulosity-brainworms Armand discovered the categorical imperative"
#Thinking. About vampires#Now you have to share my horrible thoughts#Vampires shouldn't be allowed to read philosophy#They should all have to make like Anne Rice's vampires and do Socratic dialogues#Where they invent every idea from first principles and make it about vampirism

having an existential crisis about water blast type moves. where the fuck does all this water come from. I am a small mammal and that's like sixty gallons of high-pressure water WHERE does it COME FROM
#this wouldn't make sense at my human size either.#it makes sense for Water-types! We know about their internal water reservoirs! and also they live in the water so they can replace it fast!#the ice moves make sense. Ice Beam is an energy-repulsion beam that just removes heat. that's why it looks like a laser or a thunderbolt#Blizzard works on a similar principle! you just use the same cold generation to fuck with the weather instead#works a lot like Snowscape; Hail; Rain Dance; Drizzle; and Snow Warning#and when I use it in deserts it doesn't necessarily come with snow. cold as fuck wind BLAST#this does NOT explain how I am also capable of horking up an entire swimming pool IN THE SAME DESERT. ON THE SAME DAY#this has been weirding me out since I was little. I just keep getting reminded because now I am also a Pokémon that can do that#this is the real reason scientists keep telling us that Pokémon still hold many mysteries. because what the fuck.#Kyogre can do it because she invented water. but us????????#pokemon irl#unreality#pmd

This, among other things, explains our boy's weird monologues in Labyrinth Warriors.
He recites the ideals of his martial tradition, beliefs he learned and decided to follow, not something he came up with himself.
Also what he says sounds incredibly similar to the Korean version of the trope, and I wonder if trope savvy players were supposed to recognise that.
#learning that from an external source doesn't require the same level of trauma and mindfuckery as inventing it himself#also explains why he doesn't always follow these principles#he tries#but he's still attached to a lot of things#childe#tartaglia

eating nutritious gray gruel all week to wean my body off color texture and flavor, in preparation for the weekend. the weekend: cold veal brisket with truffle mayo and vegetables pickled in raspberry vinegar; gazpacho with cod croquettes; boeuf tartare; tarte aux pommes normande
#pareto principle but for food#fr cannot wait until they invent a capsule that you take once a day that fulfills all your nutritional needs so you can have#only one rich and complex meal a week

Craft club delivered yet another clanger of an overheard conversation in the form of two older ladies discussing how they've learned to express themselves more clearly about what they want, to lean in to prioritising things they themselves like and find interesting instead of putting themselves second by default, and breaking the habit of not spending money on themselves. And I was so proud and happy for them until one said, "You just have to tell them what you want, they [men] are hardwired to provide and protect!" and what little was left of my soul departed my body for good.
#they weren't the same ladies who reinvented the temperance movement from first principles the other month#i thought i was safe from this sort of thing in the secondary room not the main room but these two were having a chat on their way out#at their usual late-middle aged conversational volume with no other chatter in the room to help tune them out#just forced to witness feminism being invented and destroyed in the space of 15 minutes

concept that was literally keeping me awake at 3am last night: what if asgard had a writing system that was structured similarly to circular gallifreyan but visually resembled mediaeval knot art
#space viking tag#they imply that that might be what the mark the bifrost leaves is in t1#but ummm. what if *i invented this*#i have some knowledge of linguistics. i used to draw celtic knots all the time so i know the basic principles of that too. i COULD.#(*norse art is a little different but afaik mostly just through being less regular and mathematically perfect)#(stylistic things like branching and varying width. not things that make it a whole new. concept?)

sometimes i have trouble coming up with secondary characters when i'm writing, but i think i figured out a trick: put your main character in Situations and see who they interact with. who are they calling to help them move? which coworker are they sharing a look with when something annoying happens? who do they spend time with on holidays?
#personal#mostly posting this so i remember later lol#writing references#it's sort of the same principle as the 'give everything a face' rule#like i'll know a character has coworkers but then have great difficulty inventing any#because the concept of 'a coworker' is too vague#'that coworker who always drops by their desk to chat at inconvenient times but is very nice' is a much easier starting point#and will often pop into my head nearly fully-formed without a lot of effort

Halloween after-action report
This year's trick-or-treater tally: 500+ kids, a handful of parents collecting on behalf of a sick kid at home, and a tired and harried reporter for the local TV station who frankly deserved some candy.
Don't move to a destination trick-or-treating neighborhood. Just, don't.
(I mean, you do get to see a lot of creative costumes! But the financial outlay for candy is such a damn pain in the neck, and if you want to make sure it will last to a reasonable hour you do need to supervise in person. This year I made it to 8:10pm, after which I went inside to warm up my icicle fingers and toes and left the dregs on a table with a "Take Two (2) Pieces" sign. The bowl was empty by 8:25.)
#also it was only 35 Fahrenheit by the time I went indoors#sure that's seasonal but I object on general principle#who invented weather anyway#how is this my life

House just peter levine'd that man. When he did the mirror magic thing and had that guy with the missing hand unclench his fist after decades of his nervous system still clenching it. House just literally had him somatic experience it away when the writers im assuming had no knowledge about it. They just reinvented it. On accident
#That was literally it. That was literally the principle of it. He just invented somatic experiencing#THAT WAS LITERALLY IT??????

𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗗𝗔𝗬, 𝗛𝗨𝗬𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗦! 🔭
On this day in 1629, Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens was born in The Hague, Netherlands.
He is known for pioneering the wave theory of light and discovering the true structure of Saturn’s rings and one of its moons.
Huygens improved telescopes, invented the pendulum clock and advanced the study of dynamics, especially in rotating bodies and pendulum motion.
He also joined the French Academy of Sciences and exchanged ideas with Pascal, Leibniz, and Newton.
Huygens favored mechanical explanations and challenged Newton’s theory of gravity.
Although many overlooked his work during his lifetime, scientists later recognized his principle of secondary wave fronts as a key contribution to modern optics and physics.
His legacy continues to influence science today.

Christiaan Huygens, Lord of Zeelhem, FRS (14 April 1629 – 8 July 1695) was a Dutch mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor who is regarded as a key figure in the Scientific Revolution.

i dont like to be rude but sometimes you see people who are just so impressively stupid. post about the reduction of maternity services at my local hospital. comment paraphrased 'this government keeps trying to kill medicare etc. hopefully this new guy will come in and fix it'. he is not going to do that. please be serious
#do u think medicare getting fucked six ways to sunday was invented 3 years ago. come the fuck on#mayb it's because my mother despite her lack of serious political involvement ever remains a fervent whitlamhead. but i really do find#it just so. ??? when people imply that the lnp is going to fix anything ever. like it is not in their principles
