I'm honestly surprised the MILGRAM innos didn't go crazier. It could have reinforced their worst biases, like Shidou's disregard for lives and depression. It looked like it affirmed his "I'm useful to society" and his drive instead.

Makes me wonder if Fuuta would have went Kotoko's way like most people assume, or if he would have gone Shidou's and Yuno's relatively harmless visions of the world. He's extremely cynical and pessimistic, possibly more than Kazui and Shidou, and might have end up as jaded as Yuno did in T2.

With the introduction of Nathalie's father in the latest episode, I decided it was time to finally put my interpretation of him on paper so I can catalog how my perception of him changes. Below are some design notes, backstory, and character study comments. (Warning: it's a lot) Of course, spoiler alert for my fic!

Background:

Victor = reference to Frankenstein

Serdtseva = derived from the word "heart" in Russian

Gave Nathalie “Sancoeur” as a way to distance himself + as a cruel joke

Born circa 1930 in Leningrad to a lower-middle-class family.

Family had connections to the Russian Orthodox Church.

Early Life & Imprisonment:

His early experiences during the Holodomor sparked outrage at the government

Arrested in the late 1940s during the Leningrad Affair while a university student for:

Openly practicing religion in an anti-Orthodox Soviet state.

Expressing interest in banned Western philosophy and literature.

Possible possession of prohibited texts or being reported by a peer.

Sentenced to several years in the Gulag system.

Endures brutal conditions.

Experience deeply affects and distorts his worldview.

Post-Stalin Release & Academic Career:

Released after Stalin’s death in 1953 during the Khrushchev Thaw.

Design Notes/Character Study:

Foil to Nathalie, the Duke, and Gabriel

Color scheme inverted from Gabriel’s

Nathalie dresses similarly to him

She looks more like her mother, but she undoubtedly is her father’s pet daughter

He dresses similarly to the Duke (in a darker color scheme)

Yellow tinge to his shirt - reminds viewer of decay and the past

Outfit based on Shostakovich

He likes to be put together:

Wears gloves

Doesn’t like to touch people directly

Touches Nathalie without gloves (views her as subhuman)

However, his past always cracks through

Irony: completely misses the point of Crime and Punishment (book he is holding)

Similar to Gabriel in that way

In the picture, he is beating up a predator

Irony: he too is a predator

Not out of concern or justice - out of possessiveness

Likes to inflict torture

First, break the legs (break strongest weapons; prevent escape)

Then, then the arms (not able to grab anything)

Final blow between C1-C7 vertebrae (if not dead, you’re quadriplegic for life)

Contrast to Nathalie, who prefers to tie up loose end quickly and cleanly + Gabriel who hasn’t crossed the line of killing

OKAY SO. let's first of all ignore the inaccuracies of the nervous system, it's JUST for a general idea. But anyway let's go-

NINPŌ, it's this ancient mystic power that derives from the Hamato Clan and yadda yadda boring stuff Hamato essence, it's passed down and it gives us SUPER cool powers. Now, when it comes to my ninpō it feels like an electric flame in the center of my chest, i haven't always felt it but Mikey says that he's always felt it since he was a kid. Mikey's always had a talent for this stuff though so it wasn't suprising to hear that.

Now the best way I can describe the way ninpō feels is that it feels like little static bites that travel through your nervous system in quick sparks, it's not a bad feeling, it's similar to the feeling of adrenaline where it gets your heart pumping and makes you feel way stronger or faster.

When I use my ninpō I see differently.

Picture this, your normal environment with all the pretty colors, but you want to move from point A to point C quickly. In that moment, everything inverts and then focuses into a stream of blues and whites, it's hard to see BUT you can make out the blur of the environment around you. You aren't really physically there anymore but at the same time you are. It's like a different plain of existence.

The only thing you can CLEARLY see is the katana you threw that is burning way brighter than anything else, problem is that it's also sorta phasing in and out so you have to focus really really hard, reach out and grab it.

And once you get your hands on the handle, everything flashes around you and it feels REALLY hot for a second but now you're at point C and even though it felt like a minute or so it only took a second.

It feels like phasing through a wall in a video game or glitching out of bounds. SUPER weird and leaves you buzzed once you stop using it. But yeah! That's how that works- for ME.

Slicing portals feels like slicing through paper no matter where I do it or on the material i'm slicing into. It's a lot of bending reality, I guess! Literally ripping apart atoms to make a portal and then using it like a gateway to get where I want to go. Speaking of where I want to go, I need to have a precise location in mind before I leap through a portal, or i'll end up at a random coordinate or dimension altogether.

In this case, think about minecraft, you can't really teleport to where you want to go unless you have the x, y and z coordinates. It's something like that. Lets say, for example, I'm in my room but I want to slice a portal to get into Donnie's lab which is all the way across the lair. I have to envision where I want to come in from, and land at or else i'll end up somewhere else entirely or somewhere in the general area but not exactly where I wanted to be.

It mostly makes sense to me which is why i'm so good at using it but to someone who doesn't have it, it sounds WAY harder than it actually is. It's just alot of focusing.

sparked by that one ficlet of gav and fl im sharing a concept i've been imbuing into all of my redaud content/ideas for months:

soulbinding.

its a very, very intimate and unreversable act done most commonly by vampires and d(a)emons but it is possible for two empowered people to do so as well.

becoming soulbound is the literal process of connecting two cores so that they are always drawn to the other. for immortal races like d(a)emons it's typically done at the end of a human lover's life, ensuring that the reincarnation of that human will once more be drawn to that d(a)emon and that the magical being can find them, leading them to fall in love all over again.

for demons, since they dont have a core (necessarily) (bcus they are magic personified) its an act that quite literally grants them a "mini-core" or "center".

for vamps (whose cores being almost inverted normal cores that became vampire cores) the act of a soulbind may actually cause them to have more human/lifelike traits: a slow and faint heartbeat, a fleck of color in their eyes, slightly warmer skin, etc.

for normal empowered people, its a much much rarer act– almost unheard of entirely. sadly, the requirement for them as humans is that they are both empowered. but it will lead them to be able to find each other once they are both reincarnated.

this is where the common human myth/legend/idea of "soulmates" and "twin flames" etc came from <3
