Can’t tell if it’s an actual theriotype, but since I started keeping isopods last May, I’ve felt very connected to them as a species, especially when I’m out of spoons and nonverbal. Spending time being still and quiet in the dark (even if I’m not sleeping) is how I’ve recharged emotionally and mentally for years now, and finding an even simpler state of mind than my typical canid and corvid seems to help a lot with that. Not to mention, crunchy snacks and finding things to hide under are just the best.

So, who can say? All I know is I get Pod Brain when I’m too tired to be perceived.

I am sooo domesticated actually.

As a goat I’m just on a farm in the Swiss alps, I graze freely but I always come back to the farmer when he calls for my herd.

As a caribou? I’d be trained to carry sleighs, and be one of Santa’s Reindeer for the holiday season, so happy as little kids come to pet me and feed me carrots.

As an isopod (still questioning but y’know) I’d just happily chill in a terrarium with the rest of my colony, safe from any predators.

If you are polytherian please interact, i have multiple types and want to hear how you conceptualise it.

For me:

There are certain characteristics that are basic and integral. Gender, concepts, and physical headspace species (tiny, cat, bird, bug, donkey, chipmunk.)

And then my brain has theriotypes and kintypes based on these traits, research of the animal and its behaviours, or how euphoric I feel in referring to myself as one. Largely psychological. I also practice shapechanging in headspace.

I am all at once, but not in the same intensity. They fluctuate and come in and out of focus. Day to day. Some operate like a vacillant therian, others have triggered shifts. Right now my birb is coming into focus, and i've been in a snow leopard shift for a while. The winter is heavily swaying me to stocking and torpor, so feeling alert in the cold is new.

I would like to offer this resource for therians, an extensive list of all of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries that are available on soap2day, and a full list of what species* they each (notably, prominently) feature the natural behaviors of, separated by episode, and omitting species that were only shown dead, juvenile or being predated on. This took me a while (I have been working on it since Prehistoric Planet’s release) because I did in fact have to watch every single series in full in order to list all the species and the episodes are around 50 minutes long, but enjoy.

Most of these shows have closed captioning, which is why I’ve picked soap2day. Planet Earth is the only one that doesn’t. I did not include Dynasties and Dynasties II because each episode only features one species.
