In fact, he’s lost. Very lost. He just wants to go home and is getting scared of everything around him because he doesn’t know what’s going on. But! But he’s found an (admittedly also terrifying) castle or keep or whatever they’re called that all the ghosts avoid!

It never exactly enters his mind that they might have been avoiding such a place for a reason. 

In unrelated news, the first thing Fright Knight sees after his sword was (accidentally) knocked free from its prison is not a blob ghost- they’ve done it a few times over the eternities- but a ghostling. A newborn ghostling, who promptly bursts into tears to his genuine horror. What did he do?!

One of the more well-known Disney cats, because she can frequently be seen hanging out near Grizzly River Run and being admired by parkgoers. Her name is Francisco! The Disneyland Resort actively encourages these feral cats to hang around, as they help with rodent control, but will remove any that become aggressive towards people.

I know some people argue that robin!Jason and Dick were never close post-crisis pre n52 because they only interacted a couple of times in canon and I understand that due to Dick living away when they first met they wouldn't be as close as the relationship Dick has with some of his other siblings, but I would also wish we would take in account that for all three of Jason's years, we have like 30 issues of Jason's run. That's exceedingly small. We have batman #416, we have that one moment in teen titans (i forgot the issue) of jason working with the team, and i think the ski trip we found out later about was included in the same canon*. (also, i do feel like even if you didn't know/like eachother before going on a ski trip together by the end of the ski trip this will have changed, and the picture definitely felt like they were getting along even though Jason's face in the picture was comically weird.) I'm not sure if there were other interactions shown or mentioned, but hey, 2-3/30ish isn't a bad score at all! If we're going 3/30, that's a whole tenth of Jason's robin era.

(And I'm talking about their relationship from Dick's pov since it's the one in question here but it's clear to me in Jason's run, even post-crisis, that Dick is often on his mind and important in his life (with a certain inferiority complex the little siblings of very cool people know well) with stuff like I think Batman #410 or Jason is Legends.)

And even more importantly, 30ish is extremely short for three damn years. That's ten issues per year! Do we assume that Jason was sitting on a shelf for the whole time he's not working with batman in the comics? Do we assume batman was sitting on a shelf twiddling his thumbs all that time during those three years he appears, either? It's perfectly logical to make the assumption that Bruce and Jason were still going out as goddamn Batman and Robin even when it's not shown on screen and having a relationship and interacting together even when it's not seen. In fact it's the most reasonable and logical assumption even. It's obvious Jason and Bruce's interactions extend past what was shown on screen so why wouldn't Dick and Jason? We know from Dick's relationship to his death that Dick cared about Jason. We know how much his death impacted him. Regardless of the (now retconned) terrible mess that was their relationship after Jason came back, they had a relationship, and it was good, and how deep it went is up to interpretation but it doesn't cheapen or lessen any of Dick's relationship with his other siblings to acknowledge that (like, seriously, even though some of them might view it as such in the story, dick's love isn't a prize that can only go to the one blorbo to win the competition. Personally I don't see Robin Jason being his favourite, and that's fine. Probably since, as I only have one sibling to be weird about, this is one aspect of Dick and Jason's relationship that I don't project onto them.)

There's a difference between saying "those are the only canon interactions between Dick and Robin!Jason that we know of" and saying "those are the only interactions that happened between Jason and Dick when Jason was Robin", especially if the next sentence is going to be something like "read a comic". I want to insist that I'm not saying that they have to have been super close. All I'm saying is I don't see, with the knowledge I personally have of canon and the retcons I choose to disregard (because of terrible writing), why considering that they were close wouldn't be canon compliant.

Leeway, nuance and up to interpretation stuff are fun and should matter for evaluating the level of canon compliance of your own headcanons, and I think it's especially important when trying to police other people's interpretation of canon: are you certain their interpretation is fanon and you're correcting it with the right canon, or is it a case of two headcanons clashing in the blank space between comic pages?

I just found it strange to never see it taken in account in the sometimes pretty emphatic takes I saw on the debate around their relationship, so those are my two cents on the matter. All this to say, [theatre joke in coming], when it comes to Dick and Jaybin, we could all stand to be more chill.

* btw i'm excluding dixon's nightwing year one from this conversation because I hate how it manages to shit on every one of the characters i've seen him write in it so violently and also fuck dixon, my jason comes from post-crisis not that crappy weirdo retcon.

Putting it out there briefly before ep 51 comes out so i can come back to this.

I think some of what the Citadel is catching heat for (especially what Tefmet was saying using poor evidence) around binding, creating/breeding and conjuring Great Spirits is actually the work of the Saraz Imperium/Crown. I don’t think the Citadel is completely uninvolved or doesn’t itself do fucked up things to Great Spirits (see: the Great Bullfrog), but I’ve been thinking a lot about Morrow’s derrick, the way we saw the Crown move in Arc 2 during the raids, Tefmet’s evidence not actually fully pointing back to the Citadel, and especially most recently the wizard Keen and the introduction of the crown prince in Arc 4.

These guild mages (Morrow and Keen) are both involved in using spirits somehow. Morrow must have needed a huge amount of resources, magical and otherwise, to build the derrick - not to mention administrative sign off. We never learned who in the Crown was involved because of how things went down in Port Talon. Keen seems to have an understanding of witches and spirits, and specifically wants to trap Eursulon. We have a horrible idea of what happened to Ghost.

We also now know that there is at least some level of tension between the Citadel and the Crown, as evidenced by Steel’s call in episode 50. Clearly the Citadel depends to some extent on the administrative, logistical and civil management work of the Crown so that it can focus on war and academic progress. But, like the wizard Gray hinted, the real power of the Empire seems to be held by the Citadel, and that kind of unequal division doesn’t seem very stable. The Emperor may be a bit of a bozo (we’ll see) but he has a whole bunch of guild mages working for him - wizards who were drummed out of the Citadel, may be bitter and bear a grudge, or have a chip on their shoulder. They may well want to prove they don’t need the Citadel and are in fact better, by advancing their magic using spirits. More importantly, if I was the Crown, some part of me would always be worried that the Citadel could one day decide to overthrow me (especially given Antivoli/Accordati wizard history) and I would not want to be caught off guard with no defence and my opponent controlling the entire military. One thing to do, then, would be to secretly develop alternative forms of wizardry or use of magic.

My theory is that I wouldn’t be surprised if Prince Olfgang has a particular interest in/has been supporting wizards of the Crown in developing the (ab)use of spirits for their magic purposes. Maybe partly for the war effort, but also in relation to the threat of the Citadel. And from a meta perspective I think that’s why, narratively, Brennan has taken us to Sarazmir and highlighted the prince.

Lastly, I do still think the Citadel has been interfering/messing with the Lingua Arcana in ways that are having an impact on magic in Umora as a whole (for example, with the Axiom of Proliferation, and more I think that is yet to come about the aerith system etc). I think what keeps the Citadel and Crown together is their shared interest in maintaining control over the use of magic/the lingua arcana, so as to concentrate power.

Let’s see what happens in these last 4 episodes!! Ahhhhhh

You know, I'm really really curious to see how post-enlistment BTS is going to sound thematically-wise.

In these past 2/3 years, they all had the chance to get uncomfortably honest and, for lack of a better term, liberal, in the way they explore their own sound, in a way we got to see very little of previously. We got the rapline fleshing out their work, and the vocal line braving into full-fledged solo stuff for the first time.

Hoseok, who keeps refining and pushing the boundaries of his sound. Who found his footing and is making it his own. The boy who was born for the stage finally gets to be on the spotlight as himself, standing on the shoulders of BTS's j-hope but going back to his roots as Hoseok.

Yoongi and Joon, who already have an incredibly rich discography, and are digging deeper into themselves - there's healing, there's catharsis, there's grief for a past self and hope for a new one. Between Yoongi's Suchwita and Joon's work on RPWP, there's a lot of conversations about life as an artist and as an ordinary person, about mental health and identity, the creative process, about leaving your youth behind and coming to terms with adulthood and the loneliness it brings.

Jin, Jimin and Jungkook who have finally ventured into longer bodies of work, who have finally got to explore who they are (as musical artists) outside and beyond the Bangtan umbrella. Jin especially with this upcoming tour and all the entertainment content he's been a part of, and gets to do things his own way.

Tae, who went the other way and invested in his relationships, who showed us more of himself not through music, but through the way he conducts himself with his friends, outside of the stage.

As Bangtan, they have always been very vocal about all of these, but it's the first time they all got to live life aa creatives on their own. There is a newer, better collective understanding of themselves and each other, and a new layer of maturity and transparency, which has been beautiful to witness it unfold.

I'm so very looking forward to see all of this new knowledge and experience being brought into BTS, and how the new chapter will reflect that once they get together again. Personally I feel like the MOTS series was the perfect mesh of their individual identities and sounds (which makes sense since it was the last Big Thing they did pre-covid that wasn't just a compilation of things like Proof. BE was great but had a very distinct sound and purpose under the Covid context), and if their recent solo work is anything to go by, we are going to see a completely new version of BTS that is bound to surpass all we know from them so far.
