Franken faceup (finally lol) under the cut :) very very long and text heavy because i had a LOT to say with the new stuff I tried :)

^ mockup :) you can see the placing of a lot of the stitches shifted slightly and that it was pretty dark makeup around the eyes! My big inspo for this was early pics of avril lavigne since I wanted to capture that vibe in the way of silly skater girl in this doll. I very much was kind of on the fence on this one, going back and forth on what I would do with the doll (which is why I um was postponing working on the head [outside of painting it] until now) but was convinced I would go with this.

I promise you I had plans to use this mockup. It just did not feel right when I *did* get around to the faceup so I went into it with my usual tactic of ehh it's fine I'll figure it out later which either goes really well or really bad from my experience. I had gotten some tips from a friend of mine who is a PHENOMENAL doll artist so was very hyped to put those into use as well!

I started with blushing the normal resin, not even touching the other colors until I had already gotten this layer sealed so there would be less color contamination (or that was the hope lol)

I just was focused on building up the pinks in the VERY yellowed resin to hopefully balance it out a little (with my experience with very yellowed dolls, this helps a lot in making the color a bit more balanced and life like instead of just. YELLOW. And with this head being from ~2006, she needed all the help she could get lol)

Next coat was the dark purple which shocker. This paint gave me even more issues lmao in the way that I struggled getting my pastels dark enough to really blush the cheeks and lips :/

Like it's there a bit but not a ton and that was ok! My lip lines kept disappearing with my sealant so I added more and more each layer.

Eventually decided that the small areas I had to blush on the teal and the light purple could be done on the same layer, so did that next

Added a bit more of the lip lines and blush around the eye area on this layer too :)

Brows were SCARY bc i was going to be trying new tactics next coat but for now, just a simple pastel outline was my goal! I was SUPER torn on how to proceed with eyeshadow (whether neutral, bright or dark) so focused on everything else (mainly getting the body blushed and getting things to look good there).

Then well. I would like to say i was just gonna do a TINY bit of watercolor to darken the purple side of the lips but then i got lost in the sauce of watercolors, adding moles, freckles, liner, and lashes with it! My favorite thing about this method of sealant (and this is a drawback to some people but to me it's a fun part) is that sometimes dust or small hairs get trapped in the sealant. And why I find this fun is that I can turn it into facial features on the doll, ie moles or scars. It's something where obviously I would prefer to NOT have it in there and I could pick it out but on this doll I wanted to gain as much skin texture as possible on each color so I let it be as messy of a sealant job as I wanted, which is why she's got the moles you see on the normal resin :)

I also used watercolors to add a bit of color where the pastels were not working well (the dark purple and teal parts of the head were giving me grief so I just got my brush wet, dipped it in my watercolors and placed it where i needed it, dabbing at it with a dry [or wet depending on what I needed] makeup sponge cut into small squares. It helped add a bit of color to the lips especially and I was very happy with how it turned out!

I am THRILLED with it so I'm letting it dry a bit and then sealant time! Honestly i do not think this faceup could have gone better :) i was NOT expecting it to go well but it came together and it feels very much like my doll announced her personality of hey. This is what I wanna look like and who am I to not follow those vibes!

2023 creative year in review! 💦💦

The most stand-out thing to mention was this was arguably my most active and productive cosplay year...maybe ever? its incredibly uncommon that I can handmake 9 costumes in a year, but on top of that, 7 of the 9 were also custom designs, which is pretty wild.

costume-wise, i learned a stupid amount of skills and really pushed what i was comfortable with. IMO the best from the year are the collector, knives, pupet, and nekomancer at least just from a craftsmanship perspective. I try not to brag or be an ass, but I am genuinely very proud of those. they posed fun creative challenges that kept me engaged, and I'm happy with how they turned out!

the other side of the coin is although last year was my most dormant cosplay year, other crafts were super active....and the reverse happened this year _(:3」∠)_ i didnt really draw much at all other than making cosplay designs, and other physical media didnt get much time to shine either. I made some plushies, but they were lackluster, and I think I made maybe one unfinished figure lol. but I did try BJD making and loved it!! I made 4 this year and have plans to do more haha.

thats the upbeat overview, the readmore is going to be a more negative perspective so proceed with caution haha.

More than anything I wish i had more time to do art and build up Stitch in The Ditch/more OC work, but honestly this year was also objectively insane in the non-creative front. like i hit the worst patch of chronic pain i've ever had/found out my abdominals have been ripping themselves apart and bleeding for the past 10 years lol/had to go to the hospital like THREE!!!! goddamn times and now i'm dealing with the news i'm going to need abdominal surgery, got a teaching promotion/award, got my physics masters, utterly INSANE family happenings, had gastroparesis for 2 months and couldnt eat more than 200 cal a day in that time which caused all my blood levels to crash and i'm still reeling from it, and of course, have just been Cashually working goddamn 60-80 hours a week in an experimental physics lab in the background during all of this which is driving me to the point of madness- suffice to say i hit my limit like months ago lmao.

like looking back i know i should be happy and proud i did so much but i cant help but feel disappointed and wishing i had done better quality stuff. honestly, i know i goof about how hard work is, but its really really getting to me. i've always been happy with my ability to juggle so many things and preserve my ability to have a cool job, make cool things, and independently take care of myself, but work is month-by-month morphing into more of a monster thats just been suffocating everything else out. I really dont know what next year will look like, as i've been wearing thinner and thinner i'm noticing a trend where I just dont have the energy that I used to to do anything outside of my job.

I bring this up because on paper I should be happy with what I made, but I still feel like im in a stand-still. I made a lot of costumes, but tbh they were low quality/lackluster. like the number went up, but the quality didnt and I couldnt do much of any other art things. I couldve, and shoulve, been able to make much better work this year than I did, but it didnt happen as a combo of being snuffed out by my job physically and mentally.

in 2023 I got a head start/built up momentum from the beginning of the year that carried me through when things got insane in spring/summer/currently, but I'm already starting 2024 from a low point. yall. im so tired. im so goddamn tired. like its funny to goof about how much I do but its catching up fast and i think this is going to be the year when I just cant keep up anymore. Its hard to talk about since the "being crushed to death by your job" topic isnt one people want to engage with, and unless you're experiencing it first hand its hard to understand what living like that really means.

for 2024, i know theres no way I will be able to match this same number of costumes, but my goal is no matter what I want to start making things that are more solid on a construction level. fewer projects, more polish. also doing more non-cosplay stuff like world building and dolls would also be awesome. will that happen??? lord only knows. honestly usually these predictions/goals go haywire but this is also more of a response to external things outside of my control so ???? ??????? we'll see lads

"hell yeah!" all these snacks would definitely give both of you an intense sugar rush so you'd two be able to watch the game until it ends.

after settling down, the match finally started with both teams singing their anthem and shaking hands.

based on my two previous asks, i feel like mama walker in her free time in the hospital before she passed would make origami’s,croché a few small stuffed animals, and write logan & hesh letters for each important event in there life.

birthdays,graduations,weddings—anything important in her boy’s lives. of course all these things became limited as her body became weaker to the point she couldn’t do it as efficient anymore. her once neat and admirable handwriting looked sloppy and like a child wrote it, but its okay, it was for her boys, which is all that matters— until she didn’t have the strength to pick up a pencil/pen. that resulted in unfinished letters that she couldn’t finish.

nobody knew of this—elias never knew & he was with her everytime he could. the reason she never told anyone was how determined she was that she was gonna make it but deep down that wasn’t gonna happen. so, she told elias weeks before her death, just for him to know just incase he never found out about it. When she passed, elias held onto those letters for the life of him, giving them out each important day of the boy’s lives, and going to a calligrapher to have them finish the unfinished letters in mama walkers exact handwriting.(which worked extremely well and the handwriting is identical)

that went on until the boys were 16 and 18—which was when odin hit, and the letters were never founded again besides the ones in logans & heshs dufflebags. no matter how hard elias searched they were gone—perished— and all that remains are the ones that are up to the age 16 and 18.

2018 Artwork Archive

Hooo boi we're goin wayyy back with this one here. Gonna start archiving all my artwork here for folks who are curious.

I only really started pursuing artwork "seriously" in 2019, but I've been drawing all my life. Never really considered myself an artist until like halfway through SRN, though im not sure why because looking back at some of this stuff it's actually still halfway decent. Obviously old and unfinished but yknow, its still nice.

So yea, come with me as we dive into the past of old tali art containing some neat and some really bad art! ✧∘* ✧･ﾟ

2018 was a big year for me as I was still pursuing game design and didn't really have a direction in life. I was creating one game for most of the year, that game being Aether Drift. Duncan was the primary artist for the game and I the coder / musician, but that being said I did still do quite a few pieces of concept art.

The game is still live and playable on Steam if you're interested!

Honestly some of these pieces, while clearly being messy, are still quite nice and I like 'em a lot. The Jhin piece in the middle-right is traditional w/ Blik markers, and you can definitely tell I was more comfortable with trad art at that point in my life.

I particularly remember the Yojimbo piece (the green bird at the bottom) took me like a full two or three days to finish. Crazy honestly.

Ontop of that, I was working on a rhythm RPG game called "Harlow's Piano" at that point. The game never got very far into development but I did make quite a few pieces of art for it.

(yes one of these is done on Roll20 lmao)

I really like this one. Concept art for a game titled "The Crowman", basically this personification of death whose made their purpose to help those with tragic deaths.
