Ok ok ok so. God this movie. I have 2 details I don't think anyone else has pointed out just yet, the first one being about Goldie. (And please excuse my shitty pictures idk how people are getting high quality screenshots without the website going nuts about sharing stuff but whatever)
Tumblr media
This one's pretty small but in this scene here where Goldie is a kid, she's humming some thing that I'm pretty sure is actually part of Puss' "theme song". This could have certain implications about timelines and how much time passed between events depending on how you look at it. Really I just it as proof that Puss would have a longer lifespan than a normal cat since he was really only established as a 'legend' after his first movie and even if Goldie was a kid during the Shrek movies (which would be ignoring some things from the first Shrek) that's still a fairly long time.
2nd detail is during the big fight right before Puss' panic attack. Something I've never really seen anyone bring up is just how overwhelming that fight probably was for him. It's more dangerous than the one at the pie factory since they're trying to save Perrito and not just retreat with the map, there's a lot more people, and a lot of those people are literally dying around him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The confetti from Jack's men blowing up is making Puss sneez and is visibly disorienting to him, not to mention that being so close to that much death is probably freaking him out even if he's not fully aware of that until Death shows up.
Tumblr media
When he hits the ground here right before Death starts whistling, Puss' ears are already ringing from the impact and how loud everything is. Also, he's a cat, so I can't imagine the sensitive hearing and sense of smell and such is helping him in that moment lol.
I bring this up because I think Puss being overwhelmed combined with Death showing up is what pushed him past the line into full blown panic attack territory when before and after that moment in the movie he tends to just run away while in his panic. I think the overload on his senses is what made it so debilitating that time around.
Anyways detail rant over. This movie is fucking amazing I've seen it like 5 times and I love it so so much and I'm glad it's getting that attention it deserves.

How Human is your Animal?
Based on animalistic representation in Media. Ranging from anthropomorphic to everyday pet.
A tier list for your convenience
S Tier- Humans don’t exist here
Qualifications: the world has no humans, animals tend to walk on hind legs and participate in human like societies, most likely anthropomorphic but not required
Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda, Sing, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Chicken Little, My Little Pony, Goofy Movie, Ducktales, Robin Hood, Angry Birds, Samurai Rabbit, Paws of Fury, Spiderhams Universe
A Tier- I see, a little co-op happening
Qualifications: the world has humans, humans acknowledge animals in some way, they can be hired/considered for jobs and/or are active in society. Might be considered mutants
Paddigton, Muppets, Stuart Little, The Bad Guys, Pinnocio, Shrek universe, Care Bears, the Bee Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, and subsequently the entire MCU, Monsters Inc, Storks, Looney Tunes, TMNT, MHA, Yogi Bear, We Bare Bears, Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hop, Wonderland, James and the Giant Peach, Hoodwinked, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Ichabod and Toad, Sonic Movie
B Tier- Your getting suspiciously close
Qualifications: act more human like, perhaps develop a hidden society or walk on hind legs or plan elaborate heists, it’s just not quite right for an animal
Madagascar, Ice Age, Shark Tale, Surfs Up, Snoopy, Rescuers, SpongeBob, Ratatouille, Horton Hears a Who, Free Birds, Great Mouse Detective, Chicken Run, Flushed Away, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tom and Jerry, Secret of Nym, Tale of Desperaeux, American Tail, Once Upon a Forest, Garfield, Over the Hedge, Rango

D Tier- Oh look, it’s gaining complexity
Qualifications: although animals have been known to convey emotions nothing is more complex than creating Shakespearean like storylines. Humans take to the sidelines
Lion King, Finding Nemo, 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, Land Before Time, The Secret Life of Pets, Bugs Life, Oliver and Company, All Dogs go to Heaven, Lady and the Tramp, Fox and the Hound, Aristocats, Migration, Bolt, Dinosaur, The Good Dinosaur, Super Pets, Dumbo, Home in the Range, G-force, The Wild, Spirit, Rio, Curious George
F Tier- It’s all okay, animals are just animals here
Qualifications: Imagine your pet in a movie, that’s prolly what fits here. The everyday dog, or cat, or shark. Likely plays a part in the plot progression of the movie
Babe, Jurassic Park, Milo and Otis, Old Yeller, Life of Pi, Sword in the Stone, Beethoven, A Dogs Purpose, We Bought a Zoo, Pokémon, Dolphins Tale, Homeward Bound, The Black Stallion, Marley and Me, Jaws, King Kong, How to Train Your Dragon
Z Tier- So it doesn’t work like other places, but it works for you
Qualifications: a Universe with its own set of rules, perhaps jumping into a place outside of their own where rules seem just a little different. Who can say if it was real, or a dream?
Mary Poppins, Spiderverse, Fantasia, Mario Bros, Song of the South, Alice in Wonderland (cartoon), Calvin and Hobbes
Each placing is based on the highest human to animal ratio in universe even if that is one exception. This is for fun, don’t take it too seriously. You’re welcome to fill in anything you think is missing. If I mentioned one of your favorite movies you have to reblog, I don’t make the rules.

Enchanted (2007)
Tumblr media
Six years after Shrek, Walt Disney Studios released its own homage/self-parody of Disney animated fairytale films. While the results might not be groundbreaking, there’s plenty to like in Enchanted. It’s only during the conclusion, when the film becomes rushed and conventional, that it loses points.
In the fairy tale kingdom of Andalasia, Queen Narissa (voiced by Susan Sarandon) knows she will lose her claim to the throne once her stepson, Prince Edward (James Marsden), marries. When he meets Giselle (Amy Adams) and immediately declares their true love for each other, Narissa attempts to rid herself of Giselle by tossing her into a portal to another realm. That realm is none other than our own live-action New York. When divorce lawyer Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) meet Giselle, he agrees to help her - never believing for a second that she is anything but a deluded woman who’s gone starry-eyed after landing in the Big Apple.
Enchanted begins in the animated kingdom of Andalasia and lets us know right away what its animated characters are all about through song. This makes it a delight for those who grew up with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and the like. While Enchanted occasionally references those films, it’s more that Giselle has been cut from the same cloth and fits perfectly right next to their princesses. She lives in a forest with her animal friends, dreams of true love, is unabashedly optimistic and cheerful, is prone to spontaneous melodies and is completely out of place in New York. The setup makes for some easy jokes but that doesn’t make them any less funny and the film offers some delightful reversals that will take you by surprise. The scene where she sees the Philip’s filthy apartment and decides to clean it up is probably the funniest in the movie and it also offers a catchy tune that you'll instantly love. I’m not sure if I would describe the film as a musical, however. It sort of is because characters do randomly break out into song but only when Giselle or Prince Edward kick them off and when they do, most people look utterly bewildered by all of the sudden music and dancing that accompanies them - until the magic in the air sweeps them up as well.
Other clever gags include Giselle's faithful friend Pip, a Chipmunk who could talk when he was in Andalasia but can’t now that he’s in the real world, the duo of Edward and Nathaniel (Timothy Spall), who pretends to help the Prince but is actually sabotaging his efforts to please the Queen, and some rom-com type shenanigans involving Robert’s girlfriend, Nancy (Idina Menzel). That last part is where the film is disappointing because, despite all of the references to classic fairytales, this is ultimately a fairly predictable romantic comedy. I say it’s a letdown because of the self-awareness we see elsewhere. Robert is a cynical Manhattan divorce attorney whose wife left him some time ago. Giselle is all about the happily ever after. In fact, she was ready to marry Edward the day after they met. You could’ve dug deeper into some of the story's ideas but Enchanted doesn’t have the time. It has to fit the romantic comedy story, the fish-out-of-water stuff, plus a complete “Disney fairytale” with the Prince, Giselle and the wicked stepmother within its 107-minute running time. It’s no wonder the ending feels rushed. The Queen's ultimate fate went by so quickly I had to rewind the film to be sure I hadn’t missed anything. Enchanted really needed ten more minutes to flesh that out.
If you’ve been marathoning Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and the other Disney favorites, you want a little more, but you also want something different, Enchanted is just what you’ve been looking for. It’s got the romance, the songs, the comedy that made all of those pictures classics and with Amy Adams, it’s got a star you can't beat. While the conclusion is a little rushed and a little predictable, this is an appropriately entrancing story. (January 7, 2023)

TIKTOK SENTENCE STARTERS PART 6
some of these are quotes from tiktok creators, and some are from various other forms of media that were popular audios/trends on tiktok
❛ Guess who didn’t eat me out last night? ❜
❛ I don’t know if I’m on my period, if there’s a star out in the sky that moved too far to the left, or if my brain chemicals just went ‘uuggghhhh’, but I’m sensitive and violent right now ❜
❛ ‘Ugh, why are you girls always going to Target?’ Ta get stuff. Duh. ❜
❛ Don’t act like you’re above wearing a cowboy hat for a tiktok. Oh! Handsome cowboy! Handsome cowboy! ❜
❛ How fucking elaborate do we have to make this fight?? Get down here!! ❜
❛ It continues to redefine ‘family’ as meaning: ‘some dudes who ate at my house’, instead of people you share a bloodline with. ❜
❛ What’s more American in this nation of living paycheck to paycheck than living your life a quarter mile at a time? ❜
❛ You’re gonna fuck the bee?!?! ❜
❛ I need a trenta cup of heavy cream. ❜
❛ If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’m gonna dilly dally. I am a dilly dally-er. ❜
❛ You’re taller! How fucking dare you. ❜
❛ Santa sent his deer to fuck your shit up cause you’re on the naughty list. ❜
❛ How many times do I have to tell you mind control doesn’t work on me? ❜
❛ I have never seen a creature look more like a rotisserie chicken, and I am including every rotisserie chicken I’ve ever seen. ❜
❛ You can actually have two loving and supportive parents and still end up weird and unstable. ❜
❛ Blaming it all on my father really takes away all the work that I put into making me the worst version of myself. ❜
❛ I want my mom to come home but if I call her and say “mom I convinced myself that the dog is a shapeshifter again.” she’s going to think I’m crazy. I’m not crazy! ❜
Kill me or come cuddle with me, 'cause you’re freaking me the fuck out. ❜
❛ I mean these days I just be wondering like, will I ever feel fergalicious again or is it just over? ❜
❛ If I go missing please do two things: one - check near the parking lot of Sears, two - arrest Billy Ray Cyrus. ❜
❛ Daily affirmation, repeat after me: I am not the bigger person. I am the smaller person, who is prone to pyromania. ❜
❛ Why are they playing Shrek songs in church? ❜
❛ She gave me trauma beyond human comprehension. ❜
❛ Girl if you don’t get your coochie sticks out of the uranium bin… ❜
❛ The children yearn for the mines. ❜
❛ Alright here’s a lesson in physics… that’s not how physics works. What the fuck just happened?! ❜
❛ Run like you’re being chased by the love of your life but you’re not ready to love him yet, you still got some learning to do! You have to love yourself first! ❜
❛ Hate me or don’t hate me, but if you put holy water into a humidifier you won’t have a vampire problem. ❜
❛ Awwwww shit. You don’t know about doing whatever the fuck you want? Damn. I’m sorry. Hope you find that someday. ❜
❛ Shh! Don’t bother me, I’m having enrichment time in my enclosure. ❜
❛ Quite frankly, I don’t care where you taking us, cause anyone with an ass like that gotta be blessed and highly favored. So why wouldn’t I follow gods child? ❜
❛ What the fuck did Dora say? Where are we going? To follow that ass! ❜

ok. I just had another dream, and you guys ABSOLUTELY have to see this shit. I am SO confused. I will never be the same. here's the text from my notes app.
___________________________________________
just had a dream that I watched an animation on YouTube where a bunch of assorted object show characters sang "accidentally in love" from shrek, but the lyrics were changed to be about the Muppets???????????? and the song had a whole extra minute on the end that was entirely about the muppets. all the objects were singing with their usual voices. I was So confused throughout the Entire thing.
the objects in the video were leafy, firey and pin from bfb, amelia and liam from hfjone (although airy did show up, he just wasn't... singing... oh my fucking god), and paper, painty, oj, fan and mephone4 from ii were there too. there were also objects from a show I've never seen before — broomer and chalky from excellent entities. mephone didn't sing either and the animator seemed to ship this really unusual rarepair of paper and boomer that I've never seen before. the latter had neon blue washi tape wrapped around his handle for some reason.
each character had a muppet they liked the most (I can't believe this happened to me) and they were sitting with them and singing during the animation. sometimes other objects would come together and sing the same verse. there was also this really REALLY weird moment in the middle where the music stopped and the animator started thirsting for cookie monster. I do not want to think about that part EVER again.
the Muppets I remember seeing were kermit with leafy, gonzo with mephone, animal with pin and firey, sam with fan, rizzo with liam, fozzie with amelia, rowlf with painty, several of the chickens with oj, and chalky with miss piggy. mephone was happily hugging gonzo and airy was chatting with cookie monster and looked like he was about to explode. I think airy REALLY liked cookie monster for some reason. I can see it tbh.
paper and broomer did have favourite Muppets, but they just ran off with eachother all sparkly and I didn't get to see them. that's what happens when you include your ships in an unrelated animation I guess. they run away together and you don't get to see their favourite muppets.
but yeah. I was really confused throughout the whole thing. I have no idea how or why I had this dream, nor whether the osc care about Muppets in the slightest, but here we are. I don't think any amount of thinking will make this make sense. weird dream.

“A perfect happy ending -- That's how it should be!”
~“Who I’d Be” from Shrek the Musical
x~x~x~x
Whew! These outfits took a while! But yeah...this is a very weird song choice, I know, but Shrek’s lines in this song actually really gave me Talbott vibes at certain points. Like, take this stanza --
“Or I could be a poet and write a different story -- One that tells of glory and wipes away the lies... And to the skies I'd throw it -- the stars would do the telling -- The moon would help with spelling, and night would dot the ‘I’s.  I'd write a verse,  Recite a joke, with wit and perfect timing --  I'd share my heart, confess the things I yearn,  And do it all while rhyming! But we all learn...but we all learn....”
So I decided to draw Talbott as an Auror (as he becomes in my canon: not that I mind ones where he becomes a Healer or something else instead!), alongside the two coworkers he works with most -- his partner, fellow Auror Nymphadora Tonks, and his good friend, Ministry lawyer Carewyn Cromwell. (While listening to this song and sketching this out, I couldn’t help but imagine Carewyn singing Fiona’s part and Tonks singing Donkey’s, and it made me oddly feelsy!!)
Since it’s canon that Talbott isn’t as good at dueling as some of his other friends, I see Talbott being much more into the investigation side of the Auror Department, while Tonks is the more action-oriented of the two. Basically Tonks is the one out there actually going on undercover assignments (being the resident Metamorphagus) and kicking Dark wizard arse on a daily basis, the way a cop would, while Talbott is the one making connections, running down leads, and making sure that they have enough evidence before making an arrest, the way a detective would...and so the two end up being a really awesome team, when put together, especially when they’ve also got Carewyn in their corner as legal consultant. These three became very close while working at the Ministry together, especially in the lead-up to the Second Wizarding War -- I personally see this image being set right around the time when the three realize that the Dark Lord is returning, and they’ll have to take up arms to fight the evil of their parents’ generation. I see Tonks as the only one of the three who actively joins the Order of the Phoenix, but I do see Carewyn and Talbott helping the Order covertly all the same. Carewyn secretly tipped off Dumbledore to the changing of Harry’s hearing time and place and sabotaged the writing of the Ministry’s Educational Decrees while Fudge was in office, while Talbott ended up being a pivotal correspondent for Potterwatch during the War itself -- and both Talbott and Carewyn ended up helping smuggle plenty of fugitives (including Carewyn’s future ward Erik Apollo and romantic partner Orion Amari) out of the Death-Eater-controlled Ministry during the War itself too, with help from Carewyn’s brother Jacob and others. And then after the War and after Tonks’s death, I see Talbott and Carewyn being central to the effort to track down and imprison every last Death Eater left alive, and Talbott in particular as Harry’s mentor when the Boy Who Lived joined the Department post-Hogwarts.
As you can see, as adults, Carewyn, Talbott, and Tonks each embrace a different kind of fashion sense. Carewyn, as always, is a little lady who tends to embrace formal floor-length dress robes more often than not at work, since she has to be so image-conscious while working with clients, the Wizengamot, and the Minister’s support staff and especially while she’s in the courtroom. (Her look is based off this dress!) Talbott, on the other hand, has much more of a “Western” look, largely because in the game, he’s been given that kind of an aesthetic in the past. I did tweak the hat to look more like a fedora, though, so as to allude to the “detective”-like role he plays in the Auror Department, and I also gave him a wand holster on his leg (because it’s bad-ass) and added his mother’s necklace, a few woven bracelets, and a black “Ace” ring on his middle finger, which I’ve drawn Talbott wearing previously. Finally Tonks’s look was largely based on this design, though I personally imagined it a rich magenta color, more like this costume she wears in the films. You’ll also notice that both Talbott and Tonks are right-handed, while Carey-bear is left-handed!
Hope your night is going well...and if you liked this, please consider liking/reblogging/commenting! 💙🤎💗

After you left Seokjin immediately poured the rest of his whisky down the sink and rinsed his glass. His mind was whirring, head heavy and starting to throb. He swallowed two painkillers down with some water and took a deep breath. He felt like crying. It felt like everything was crumbling around him. All his recent happiness, all his progress, and now possibly it seemed, his relationship with you…
He’d wanted nothing more than to beg you to stay, and he had to an extent, but he knew it wasn’t right. He closed his eyes, not quite believing you’d witnessed all that. You probably thought he was a monster. He hadn’t lost his temper quite like that in a while, not since before the divorce… Embarrassment washed over him, yet he couldn’t stop himself from still being mad at Nana. He knew what you said made sense. He knew he’d been out of line but Nana continuously goaded him. She’d done so throughout their marriage. But he was no saint, he knew how to provoke her too. It’s what they did best.
He moved away from the sink and tried to quash his anger, instead thinking of you and how much he had hurt and upset you. He hadn’t meant for it to get that bad, and he knew deep down that the reason he was so angry was because he’d brought it all on himself. He caused the incident by keeping his relationship with you secret. It hadn’t been on purpose, he wasn’t being vindictive, if anyone would believe him. He just… He had been selfish. He didn’t want to ruin anything because he was finally really happy after god knows how long. It was stupid in hindsight, but what was done was done now.
He reached for Arin’s mug of hot chocolate and fresh waves of guilt and emotion hit him. She didn’t deserve any of this. He needed to be there for her, to push his own troubles away and put on a brave face because none of this was her fault. She needed to know that. Thankfully, the drink hadn’t grown cold yet, and he finished it off with some cream and mini marshmallows. He took one last deep breath and made his way down the hallway. Moping was no good for him. That’s what Chaewon always said.
Arin looked happy to see him, instantly reaching out to him as he took a seat next to her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and hugged her close, kissing the top of her head. He immediately felt lighter with relief. His daughter had always been his magical cure, and even though a cuddle wouldn’t make everything in his life right again, it certainly helped, and was very much needed. She asked where you were at one point, and unsure what to say, and feeling like shit for lying, he quickly said you needed to be somewhere. Arin probably didn’t buy it, looking dubious as a result of today, bus she didn’t say anything, asking instead if they could watch a movie.
She wasn’t very talkative, and he didn’t blame her. Neither was he. He spent most of Shrek the Third lost in his own thoughts. As his anger slowly drifted away, shame replaced it. He’d been absolutely awful today and even if some of the things he’d said to Nana came from a valid place of concern, most were shouted for no reason other than frustration and hatred on his part. He was ashamed of himself.
After the movie finished, Arin complained she was feeling hungry, so he left her to pick a new movie while he found something to cook up for dinner. He caught sight of the bowl of salad and his heart sunk, remembering the picnic outside. There was no salvaging it now, everything had probably spoiled in the sun, and as he waited for Arin’s dinner to cook, he went outside with a garbage bag, throwing away all the food you’d painstakingly prepared. It felt like he was throwing your relationship in the trash. He didn’t eat with that thought in mind, managing one piece of toast before it turned on him.
At around 6pm his phone started to ring, vibrating in his front pocket and giving him a shock. For a split second he prayed it was you, but he knew he was being foolish. You needed time and if he was being honest with himself, so did he. He needed to concentrate on Arin tonight, as much as he…loved…you, his daughter’s wellbeing was the most important thing. If he could just make sure Arin was okay, then tomorrow he could concentrate on you and him.
Pulling out the device he saw it was Nana. He suddenly felt very, very sick but picked up with a cautious hello. He was almost 100% sure she wanted to speak with Arin, the only way she could seeing as Arin was too young to have a phone of her own, but he was still wary, not wanting a repeat of earlier.
“I want to speak to my daughter.” There was anger to her tone, and he knew her well enough to understand she had her guard up right now. She’d left his place upset and emotional, and that was two of the things she hated people seeing. Especially him. She hated being vulnerable.
Seokjin sighed weakly. “Nana, come on, don’t be like that.” He hesitated, wanting to say sorry for today but the word wouldn’t come. Despite the guilt setting in, he was still pretty angry and frustrated himself.
“I want to speak with Arin,” she repeated. “Will you let me?”
“Of course I will,” he replied. What did she take him for?
He turned to Arin, ready to tell her it was her mom on the phone, but she was already waiting, her ears probably catching Nana’s name a few seconds previous. He smiled gently at her and passed his cell phone over. He tried to concentrate on the television as they spoke, not wanting to eavesdrop. Arin was uncharacteristically quiet as she hummed along to whatever Nana was saying, the occasional okay and I know slipping from her lips as she curled a lock of hair around her finger over and over again, but he understood why. Today had been overwhelming for everyone involved but especially her. She hadn’t seen or heard them argue in a long time, both he and Nana careful to hide them from her as of late. Today had been an awful mistake and the now a stronger wave of guilt was eating him up.
After a few minutes he heard Arin tell her mother she loved her and then she hung up, returning the phone to Seokjin. He stretched over and placed the device on the coffee table, turning back to his daughter apologetically.   “I’m sorry about today, Arin.”
She immediately flung herself into his arms, wrapping hers around his sides to hug him tight. He squeezed her right back, running his fingers through her hair gently. “Daddy was really angry, I shouldn’t have shouted.”
“Mommy shouted too,” she reminded him. “She was angry that I called Y/N my stepmom.” Hesitantly she looked up at him, her eyes wide with worry. “I didn’t know it was wrong.”
Seokjin sighed gently, trying to see things from Nana’s point of view. “It’s not a wrong word. It’s just a word that hurt your mother’s feelings.”  Arin looked a little confused by that explanation, and suddenly Seokjin felt the urge to be as honest as he could with her. She was still young, yes, but she wasn’t stupid. Far from it actually. She deserved not to be kept in the dark.
“She… she didn’t know that Y/N is my girlfriend.”
“Why?”
“I was wrong and didn’t tell her.”
Arin stayed silent as she mulled his words over. After a few moments she simply said, “I didn’t know that.”
Seokjin ran a hand down her back, choosing his next words carefully. “Will you tell me what happened today? How mommy found out?”
Arin wriggled away from him to get comfier, sitting back against the sofa again. Seokjin copied, lifting his arm up so she could cuddle up to him. “She asked if I had a new bracelet and I told her Y/N had bought it for me last weekend when I stayed with her.”
Looking down at her wrist now, Seokjin saw no bracelet and he guessed Arin had taken it off in a bid not to hurt her mom even more. She was such a sweet child, always thinking of other people’s feelings.
“Mommy asked who she was and I said she was my stepmom – only because Suzie told me that’s what she is. Suzie has one too and it was fun because then we both had stepmoms.”
Seokjin nodded along in understanding. “It’s okay, it was only a misunderstanding. But to use that word it needs to be discussed first, okay?”
It was Arin’s turn to nod and Seokjin continued carefully. He was well aware everything was up in the air now so it hurt hearing the words that came out of his own month. “Right now Y/N is just Y/N. Before we use that word we have to make sure she likes it, alright? And mommy too.”
“I didn’t know.”
“I know you didn’t,” he comforted, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. He wasn’t even too sure she knew what exactly the word meant.
They both stayed silent for a little while before Arin spoke again. “You and mommy haven’t argued for a long time until today…because I said that word…”
“Hey,” Seokjin exclaimed softly wanting her to look his way. “We didn’t argue because of you. None of this is your fault, okay? It’s my fault and I’m really sorry.”
She gave him a small smile and patted his head. “It’s okay, daddy. I still love you.”
He couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. He could always count on his daughter to cheer him up. “Thank you, Arin.” He kissed her cheek. “I love you too. Very much.”

The new week started off badly. He had been foolish to think Mondays were something of a fresh start, foolish to think calling you first thing in the morning was a good idea, and as you told him you needed some space and that you’d call him once the week was over he couldn’t help but think the worst. You’d insisted that you weren’t mad at him, and you had no reason to lie to him, but there was no doubt you were upset… overwhelmed. That morning he’d woken up even more ashamed of the way he’d acted the day before, wincing as he remembered the way he’d lost his temper. He’d sworn that he would never let that side of himself appear ever again, but it was easier said than done. Nana had struck a nerve with the way she had spoken to you and it had been impossible to keep his cool.
He felt deeply ashamed when he thought about how confused you must have felt watching he and his ex-wife hurl abuse at each other. Deeply ashamed when he thought about the way you’d found out things he had never told you… You were hurt he’d never let you know what triggered his divorce, and he understood why completely. It wasn’t like it hadn’t crossed his mind to share such a personal detail with you, it had, of course it had, he just couldn’t bring himself to say the words. Your experience with infidelity was the complete opposite of his. You had your heart torn to pieces by your ex-fiancé and he had his ego bruised… His marriage with Nana had already been completely over, he just didn’t have the guts to get out. She was correct, he was a coward through and through.
But most of all he was deeply ashamed of his behaviour entirely. He had never meant to compare the both of you. He had never meant to use you to hurt Nana. It was extremely petty, such a low blow, and he didn’t know where it had come from. Rage had washed over him and he’d spat words that he couldn’t take back. It was the worst thing he’d ever done in his entire life, and despite the grievances he had with Nana, he regretted those words deeply. He hadn’t wanted to hurt her like that. It was shameful, and he felt horrendous for hurting both women with his foolish behaviour.
Was there a happy ending after this? If Nana didn’t already hate him, she did now, and you were probably not too far behind. You’d seen him at his most poisonous, heard him use you to prove a point, found out things he’d kept from you, and learned he’d kept you a secret from his ex-wife. How embarrassed you must have felt… How confused… He’d made so many mistakes along the way, it was a wonder they hadn’t caught up with him sooner…
He wouldn’t be able to bear it if you wound up hating him. Not when he loved you so much. He hadn’t even had a chance to confess yet, coming so close to it Saturday night but backing out because he was scared it was too soon. He’d made the decision there and then to tell you once he took you to Paris, getting swept away with the idea and the romance of it all, but now the regret for not professing his love that night was like a lead weight inside his chest. Would it have changed anything? Would yesterday have had a different outcome?
And while he was regretting things, he regretted not letting Nana know about the relationship. Yesterday could have been avoided completely – maybe.
The more he thought, the worse it got and by Tuesday he could feel himself spiralling. He knew the feeling all too well. Soobin had already worked out something was the matter. (His lack of morning shave a dead giveaway.) And that meant he was doing a terrible job at hiding his mood. He couldn’t have Arin sensing the same. She obviously hadn’t forgotten about the weekend and wouldn’t anytime soon, but he couldn’t make it worse for her. He needed to be there for her, as her father, not too busy distracted with his own misery. It was selfish.
But he couldn’t suppress it all. He knew that was unhealthy. So, Tuesday night, once Arin was tucked up in bed sound asleep, he called the one person his former happiness had been neglecting for months now…
“Seokjin,” Chaewon greeted, her warm voice laced with surprise. “Long time no speak.”
He felt guilt immediately wash over him. “Yeah… I’m sorry about that.” It was stupid really, she wasn’t taking it personally, he could guarantee that, but nevertheless it was an emotion he was all too familiar with these days.
Chaewon chuckled. “Don’t apologise for being happy and not needing me.”
His heart twisted.
She sensed his trouble. “Jin?”
He hesitated, looking down at the bottle of whisky sat at his desk. He was in his home office. “Something happened.”
There was silence as his therapist processed his vague words before she pressed him gently, “Oh?”
He took a breath. “Are you free to talk?”
“Yes, of course.”
“I’m sorry for calling you out of hours.” He apologised. “Don’t feel bad about billing me for this. I’ll even pay double.”
“Seokjin, don’t be silly,” she told him softly.  “Let’s name this a friendship call. Now, what’s wrong?” She sensed the last bit of reluctance he was holding onto. “Come on, you can tell me anything.”
He sighed. “I don’t know where to start.”
“How about from the beginning?”
They spoke for an hour in the end, Chaewon listening attentively as he explained the weekend’s events. He left nothing out, or least what he could remember. He made no attempt to hide his wrongdoings or soften the story. He didn’t want to. He knew he had done wrong. She was sympathetic, but she didn’t mince her words when it came to her disappoint in him.
After the argument he and Nana had gotten into just before Arin had moved in with him, he had worked hard with Chaewon to find a way to curb the anger he often felt when he and his ex-wife communicated. He thought he had been successful, but now he realised all he’d done was find ways to avoid it. He barely spoke to Nana unless he had to, a hello barely exchanged when she called in the evenings to speak to their daughter. A text shared to confirm when Arin would get picked up for the weekend, or one shared to cancel visits… He saw her even less. Jia, Nana’s PA and closest friend was the one who collected their daughter, and he knew it was because his ex-wife wanted to avoid him just as much.
In the long term they had just been making things worse. That’s why last Sunday had been so bad. A build-up of every single frustration felt since the last time they’d seen one another, because no doubt Nana had her own list. It was a recipe for disaster.
It felt good to confide in someone though, someone who knew him very well on a professional and personal level. Chaewon was amazing at putting him in his place so kindly. It was a gift really, and he appreciated it immensely. The older woman saw his negative traits but never judged him. She understood them and tried her best to help him with them. He guessed that was her job, but she did it so well it was hard not to see her as some sort of friend.
That’s why when she asked to see him in person tomorrow he didn’t hesitate to free up his schedule. Truth was, he wanted it too. His mind was still clouded and he needed her insight. Her advice. He wanted a good night sleep too but he didn’t think that would be possible any time soon, no matter how much Chaewon tried to help him. Not when his sheets continued to smell like you…
.
.
“It’s about time you both let go of the past.”
Seokjin let Chaewon’s words sink in as he sat opposite her, nervously chewing on a nail. It wasn’t a habit of his, but it was somewhat of a distraction right now. A comfort. They should have let go of the past a long time ago. Maybe then they would have divorced sooner. Maybe then there would be less resentment….
“Arin is the one thing you have in common and you need to work together in order to be the best possible parents you can.”
That cut his heart deep, a twinge similar to what he’d felt all week. Ever since you left. “I know,” he replied quietly. “It’s just…”
He couldn’t continue. Despite how he’d insinuated Nana was a bad mother, he didn’t think that deep down. They both loved their daughter equally, but that love was separate. It had been separate practically since she was born. Arin was missing their combined love, although she knew no different…
“You need to let go of all that bitterness and resentment.” Chaewon continued. Words she had said fairly regularly for the last two years or so. “For your sake, for Arin’s…” But now there was a new addition. “…and Y/N’s.”
Seokjin snorted. “Who said I haven’t scared her away already?”
Chaewon stare turned a little stern. “It was a shock to the system, anyone would need some time to process what happened.” When he stayed silent, she continued. “You have to make her see you’re trying your best to change things. You need to take responsibility for your actions.”
“I will.”
He wanted nothing more than to apologise profusely and answer any questions you had, but you’d requested time first and he was listening. He was just scared that time would work against him. He continued on, ignoring his deepest, darkest worry.
“It’s not fair on her. She should never have witnessed all that, and it just drums in how unfair this has been to Arin her whole life.” Arin had been the witness to many an argument when he and Nana were still married. “I hurt the people closet to me because of my careless actions,” he concluded with a sad smile. Time after time.
“And it’s not too late to change that,” Chaewon reminded. “Put a stop to all this nonsense.”
Seokjin’s smile grew for a millisecond, feeling like a child getting told off.
“Your marriage with Nana didn’t work out, that’s life. But you have a beautiful little girl together. That’s the most important thing, and it goes hand in hand with your own happiness.” She paused and then continued. “It’s very obvious that Y/N brings a great deal of that to the table.”
Yes, you did make him deliriously happy. He felt young again when he was with you. He felt invincible. Loved. He felt loved.
“Concentrate on both of them – Arin and Y/N – and make some changes. Talk to Nana – civilly. Make this work and you can all be happy. I promise you that.”
He had never heard Chaewon like this before, she was practically pleading with him. He let out a little laugh. “You make it sound so simple.”
She simply smiled at him. “If you’re determined enough, it is.”
.
.
“Mom wants to talk to you.”
Seokjin looked at his phone outstretched in Arin’s hand with slight confusion. For the past four nights, ever since Sunday, Nana had spoken with Arin just before she had to get ready for bed. It was routine now, another avoidance, he exchanged a hello with her and then passed the phone on. Her tone less defensive as the days went on. Tonight had been the same despite his session with Chaewon this lunchtime. But to his surprise, maybe Nana was making the first move.
He took the phone from Arin with a smile, not wanting to make her nervous. Usually he left her alone to speak to her mother, not wanting to pry or insert himself but tonight he was sat next to her on the sofa, replying to emails on his laptop. He hadn’t been listening at all, too engrossed with finalising details for an upcoming project, so of course it had come as a shock to find Arin passing the phone to him.
“Hello?”
“I was just wondering if I could have Arin this weekend.” Nana totally bypassed a greeting of any kind, but she wasn’t demanding in her tone, nor defensive, it was just the way she was. She’d always been straight to the point, no time for pleasantries, and many years ago, when they’d first met, he’d found it highly amusing.
“Um, of course,” he replied, taken back a little. He would be more than happy for her to have Arin. It wasn’t her weekend, but that had never bothered him before. He wanted Arin to see her as much as possible. It was only fair seeing as their daughter now lived with him.
There was a brief silence before Nana spoke again. Had she been expecting him to say no? Surely not. But then again, after last weekend maybe her worries were valid. She found her bearings. “What time does she finish school? I’m taking Friday out, I’ll drive down and collect her.”
Seokjin couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow in surprise. Nana had not once collected Arin herself. “She finishes at 3.”
Nana hesitated, “Do you think they’d let her finish early?”
“I don’t know… It’s usually only emergencies –”
“Never mind,” she stopped him. “There was just a bunch of things I’d planned, thought we could get a head start, it’s fine.”
He glanced over at Arin who was watching him hopefully. It was obvious what their phone call had entailed. They’d been making plans for the weekend and Arin was visibly excited. He smiled at her.
“I could always phone the school tomorrow,” he suggested to Nana. “See if it’s possible. Maybe she could skip the whole day?”
Nana sounded ecstatic. Something he hadn’t heard in years. “Really? Do you think there’s a chance they’d say yes?”
He shrugged to himself. “It’s just one day, I don’t see why not.”
Nana was busy thinking. “Maybe I could take tomorrow afternoon away from the office too… Pick her up at 3.”
It was his turn to hesitate now, opening his mouth ready to suggest something. He knew he owed his ex-wife an apology, but over the phone just wouldn’t do. He needed to see her. He went for it. “Or I could do it for you? I can drive her to you.”
“You would do that?” She sounded shocked.
“If she’s allowed to miss a day then yes.”
“Oh.” It wasn’t often Nana was left speechless. “Okay,” she agreed after a moment. “That would be great actually.”
His attention went back to Arin then, who was practically vibrating with excitement next to him. His replies hadn’t given away much, but it was enough to tell her she’d be seeing her mother this weekend – and possibly skipping a day of school. He grinned at her and she clung to his arm.
“Can I say bye to mom?”
“In a minute, Arin,” he chuckled, amused by her eagerness. “We’re not done yet.” His next sentence was directed at Nana. “I’ll text you tomorrow morning and let you know what the principal said.”
For the first time in god knows how long there was no malice or sarcasm attached to her gratitude. “Thank you, Seokjin.”
He took it as a positive sign. Things were changing. They would change.
Tumblr media
The next day he dropped Arin off at school himself. The plan had been to head to reception and ask if he could talk with Principal Jung in person, but after saying his goodbyes and watching Arin meet up with some friends in the playground he began to get second thoughts. What if he accidentally bumped into you? He was on pins even in the parking lot. He wanted to give you all the space necessary and the last thing you probably wanted to see was him walking towards you in the corridor. At work.
No, instead he drove to his office, phoning the principal as soon as he’d finished up his morning meeting. Hoseok – as he’d been told to call him – was completely understanding. Seokjin didn’t even have to whip out the sob story about Arin missing her mom dearly. Dirty tactics were always the last resort, and he could talk a good game, but thankfully his skill wasn’t needed today. Arin was all set to go this evening.
The drive wasn’t a long one thankfully, just under an hour as Nana lived in the neighbouring city. This wasn’t the first time he’d been to Nana’s penthouse, the place she’d bought after they’d sold their family home, but the last time had been pretty explosive. Not nearly as bad as last weekend, but close. Arin had thankfully been waiting in the car for him that time, as he and her mother argued over where she should live permanently.
Seokjin stood beside Arin in the elevator, feeling nervous for the conversation he wanted to have. He was never above apologising when he was in the wrong, but with his ex-wife saying sorry had never come easily. It was childish and he knew he needed to change, so today was the perfect test. If he wanted a clean slate he had to be as honest as possible.
“Mommyyy,” Arin squealed as she opened the door to greet them, barrelling into her practically.
Seokjin stood back as they hugged, a soft smile on his face.
“Arin, I missed you,” Nana informed her, breaking away to take her bag. As she did so, she glanced at Seokjin, then back at their daughter. “Listen, darling, go to your room for a little while so I can speak to daddy.”
Seokjin felt a little relieved. At least they were on the same page – potentially.
Arin though, was unsure, looking between her parents as she spoke. “I don’t want to. What if you argue again?”
He felt his heart break at her words. “We won’t, sweetie,” he reassured, bending down to look her in the eyes. “I promise.”
She still looked dubious, but then Nana took over, her voice light and breezy.  “We won’t be long, okay? Think about what pizza you want to order for dinner.”
Arin’s eyes lit up at that request and Seokjin couldn’t help but chuckle. That pizza obsession of hers was getting dangerous. “Okay,” she agreed easily, waving to him before she skipped off to the furthest part of the apartment.
Seokjin watched her leave before rising up again, tugging down the ends of his jacket. Nana was looking at him, an unreadable expression on her face, but he knew it wasn’t anger she was feeling, so that was a plus. He thought back to Sunday, how mad they had both been, how upset Nana had looked as she’d rushed off. The guilt came back.
He exhaled. He might as well just bite the bullet. “I’m sorry for calling you a terrible mother. I didn’t mean it.”
Nana stayed silent but her arms wrapped around herself. It was such a vulnerable action, it took him by surprise.
He continued. “I was just frustrated. I let things build up and exploded.”
She stared him straight in the eyes, shoulders sagging a little but her voice was strong. “You know I love our daughter half to death.”
“I do,” he agreed. “I don’t doubt that.”
She look relieved. It made him feel oddly sad. He had never wanted to make her doubt herself as a mother. He was a piece of shit.
Still, she needed to understand some things. His point of view and where he was coming from. His frustrations weren’t all for nothing. They were valid. “But you have to understand I’m the one who has to pick up the pieces when you end up cancelling on her. It takes its toll.”
Nana’s gaze flickered to the floor as she whispered. “I’m trying to be better.” Then she looked up again, her voice stronger. “I’m trying to free my weekends up. I’m trying not to do as much. I thought maybe I could even have her for an evening every weekday? I could pick her up from school, take her out for dinner. I know it’s a distance but maybe I could get every Wednesday afternoon away from work... Hopefully.”
Seokjin was impressed. Nana lived and breathed work so to hear she was thinking about possibly taking an afternoon away every week was… It made him very happy. “She’d love that,” he grinned genuinely. “She misses you a lot.”
Nana couldn’t help but smile too. “I miss her always.” With a slight chuckle she continued, “This apartment is so quiet without her.”
Seokjin looked down at his feet and grimaced slightly. He knew that feeling all too well. Living without Arin had been close to torture after the divorce. Everything felt so silent, the house gigantic and lonely. He hated the thought of Nana feeling the same way. “You can see her any time, Nana,” he murmured. “I’ll never try to stop you.”
Despite everything, their grievances toward one another, they had and would always co-parent well. Arin was their number one priority and she needed both parents in her life.
“I know that,” Nana nodded, “and I’d never try to take her from you.”
It didn’t bear to think about, but he had to admit, sometimes it was easy for irrational thoughts to creep in when someone was left feeling insecure.
“She loves living with you. She’s really settled at her new school, she never stops talking about her friends.” Nana continued, making small talk of sorts. He couldn’t remember the last time they’d done this. “She’s the happiest I’ve ever seen her.”
Seokjin nodded in agreement. She loved her new school, her new friends – her new life, you could say. That was easy to see.
Nana cleared her throat, dropping her arms to her sides. “I apologise too. I was out of line turning up at your door like that. I was just so mad... so hurt.” She took a few seconds. “I wish you’d just told me.”
“I should have.” She was absolutely right. “I see that now and I regret it. It was wrong of me to keep my new relationship from you. I wasn’t doing it to be vindictive. I just...” he stopped himself. Even though they weren’t excuses, they felt like they were. His reasons didn’t matter.
“You should have been the first to know because of Arin. If I was in your shoes, if it was the other way around, I would have been angry too.” He stopped and sighed at his stupidity. “I never meant to hurt you, neither did Y/N. She actually had no clue you didn’t know until that day.”
Nana’s eyes widened with shock, before she looked regretful. “Yeah, that one makes me feel even guiltier. I shouldn’t have spoken to her the way I did. It was a shock to hear Arin speaking about a stranger like that. A stranger I had no clue existed.”
Seokjin appreciated her apology, but he needed to make sure she understood something. “Yeah, about that, Arin really has never called Y/N her stepmom. We’ve only been together for a few months. I spoke to her about it and Arin understands that’s not the case. It was just kids being kids.”
Nana nodded. “I shouldn’t have flown off the handle, and I should have listened to your explanation the first time around.”
He held her gaze. “I’m not trying to replace you, Nana.”
If that’s what she was worried about, it wasn’t the case. He had never meant to compare the two women and he regretted it deeply.
Nana’s lips quirked up at the side, her voice relaxed and at ease. “But eventually Arin will call her that.”
His eyebrows shot up, understanding what she was getting at. “I don’t know,” he shook his head. His relationship with you was up in the air right now. He’d made one too many mistakes.
Nana brushed him off with sway of her hand. “I guess I’ll learn to deal with it when the time comes.”
He admitted defeat. “And I’ll have to do the same.”
It was inevitable really. One day Arin would probably have two blended families and while he really wanted his to be with you, he didn’t want to get his hopes up right now.
Nana snorted. “Fat chance of that happening. I don’t have time to fall in love again.”
He stayed silent, unsure what to say. He’d thought the same once upon a time. Until you walked straight into his life. (Or, more fittingly, until he’d reversed straight into yours.) Everyone deserved love in their life and he hoped that one day his ex-wife would find it again.
She was looking over at him sadly now, eyes softening, and it was almost jarring to see her show this much emotion in front of him. “I did love you, you know,” she murmured before laughing quietly at herself. “I felt like I never told you enough, but in the beginning it was good, right?”
“It was.” Seokjin hated getting nostalgic, in fact, he actively avoided it, but in this moment he let himself go. Ten years ago, he and Nana had fallen hard for one another. It was fast and exhilarating but – “We just…”
“Rushed into things that weren’t meant to be?” She finished for him.
He’d been so eager to marry before he was thirty, to follow in his parents’ footsteps. He wanted, no, needed, to become CEO.  He needed to build something he could be proud of, and having a family fit into that logic. He’d had tunnel vision, but it wasn’t all bad.
“I can’t regret it though,” he told Nana softly, “because we made Arin.”
“At least we agree on one thing,” she chuckled.
“Yeah,” he smiled.
It was strange speaking like this with one another. He couldn’t even think of the last time something similar had happened. They were always too busy at one another’s throats, not listening to what the other had to say. Now all that fight had gone. They were both exhausted from years of bitterness. Years of fighting.
He didn’t want to fight anymore.
Nana seemed to think the same.
“I’m ashamed she had to hear us fight like that,” she said. “I apologised on the phone but…”
“She’s okay.” He reassured. “I think she still thinks it’s her fault a little though. I’ve tried telling her it wasn’t repeatedly.”
“I’ll talk to her over dinner.”
“Good idea.”
There was a pregnant pause before Nana chuckled. “This is the first time we’ve spoken so civilly in a long time.” She hesitated, wanting to say something else. He waited patiently, curious. “Maybe we should think about talking it out with a professional?”
He raised his eyebrows. It wasn’t a bad idea actually, but then… thing seemed to be working out well on their own right now. “Maybe we should see how things go first? Now that we know how one another feels.” They weren’t out of the dark yet, but it was looking hopeful. “But if you think it will help then I won’t refuse,” he added, wanting to show how seriously he was taking this.
She smiled slightly. “Okay, we’ll see how things go.”
It seemed like the conversation had run its course then, and Seokjin shuffled, about to suggest he head out now, but Nana spoke again. “Are you okay?” She asked. “No offence, but you look like shit.”
He laughed, actually laughed, at her words. He could always count on her to be honest with him. “I haven’t been sleeping very well,” he admitted, “but talking with you definitely helped.”
She eyed him doubtfully. “I hope I haven’t ruined things with you and Y/N. I can talk with her if you want?”
“No, it’s fine,” he shook his hand.
She looked down, feeling foolish. “I guess I did enough damage.”
He chuckled. “No, pretty sure I did that all on my own.”
Looking up, her mouth opened, as if she was about to ask him what he meant but stopped herself at the last second. She wasn’t there yet, and neither was he.
He took a step back. “I should go.”
Nana went to follow him to the door. “I’ll have her back by Sunday. Do you want to say goodbye?” She saw his nod and called for their daughter, her voice echoing off the walls. “Arin? Arin, darling, come here and say bye to your dad.”
A few seconds later he heard Arin’s footsteps getting closer, she hovered by the entryway, looking worried for a second, as if she was expecting the worst but then she saw her parents smiling faces and relaxed instantly.
“I’ll see you Sunday, okay?” Seokjin told her as she made her way towards him. He reached to pick her up, something she scolded him over sometimes because it was “embarrassing” now. She was getting older, he kept forgetting, because to him she would always be his little girl. This time however, she let him do so, wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed his cheek.
“Okay, bye daddy. Love you.”
“Love you, too,” he grinned, kissing her back before he put her down.
Nana watched on with a grin of her own.

Being home alone was odd. Seokjin couldn’t remember the last time he’d been on his own. In the week Misook was here to help out with Arin and the housework, then every other weekend she often dropped in when he needed her. When the house wasn’t occupied by his daughter or Misook, you were here with him, so it had been quite a while since it was just him. It reminded him of the past, when he’d lived here all alone. He never wanted to go back to that.
He was happy to see Friday roll around. It felt like he’d been waiting all his life. Just one more day and he’d get to speak to you. The lack of communication was killing him. Ever since you’d began dating you’d spoken every day. It felt strange to be without that, like he was missing a part of himself. He’d been able to distract himself with work throughout the week, but no amount of distractions could really stop him from thinking about you. Stop him from missing you. Because he did. Terribly.
The photo on his desk didn’t help matters either – the two of you smiling together on the fishing trip he’d organised over the summer – but like hell was he hiding it away in a drawer.
It was probably best that Arin was with Nana this weekend. It gave you both some time to talk and sort things out – hopefully. He was praying so hard that everything would be okay, but he was getting ready to fight for you. Just in case. Of course he would listen to what you had to say, and respect it too, but if it happened to be bad news he would try his best to make you see how sorry he was and how hard he was trying to change. He couldn’t lose you. Not when he loved you so much.
You made him want to be a better man.
.
.
He got home pretty late from the office, staying just to avoid an empty house and after having a quick shower and ordering takeout, he decided on an early night. This week had been mentally and emotionally draining so it was probably for the best. Plus the sooner he slept the sooner tomorrow would come.
He’d just stepped out of the bathroom when he heard his phone ring in his sweatpants pocket. He pulled the device out automatically, expecting it to be Namjoon, because who else would be calling at this time? But to his surprise and utter amazement, he saw your name flashing across his screen.
His heart began to pound embarrassingly loud and he rushed to answer, sounding a little breathless as he murmured your name.
“Hey, you,” your replied, and he swore he could hear the smile in your voice. His shoulders instantly released the tension he hadn’t realised they’d been holding.
“I wasn’t expecting you to call tonight.” He heard himself say, cursing himself because it sounded so dumb. He was over the moon you’d decided to call. Of course he was.
“Sorry, I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“Of course not,” he rushed. “Well,” he laughed, “I was just about to head to bed.”
You laughed along softly, the sound making his heart sing. “I was going to wait until tomorrow but Soojung is with Taehyung tonight and being alone means I can’t stop thinking about you.”
He couldn’t stop the sigh of relief that slipped past his lips. It was so good to hear you say that. “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you all week. Are you ready to talk? I’m willing to answer any questions you have.” He meant every word.
“I’m ready,” you replied. “Should I come over? I don’t want to do this over the phone.”
“I can come to you?” He suggested instead, not wanting you to go out of your way for him. “Arin’s with Nana until Sunday.”
“Oh. Okay. Now?”
“It’s not too late?”
“No, it’s fine.” You sounded a little eager and that just made even more relieved. He’d been expecting the worst all along. “I really want to see you.”
He smiled, happiness overwhelming him. “I’ll be there soon, okay? Really soon.” As he spoke he made his way into the closet, opening up his drawers to find a clean t-shirt.
“Don’t speed,” you told him jokingly.
“Of course I won’t,” he laughed. “I’m going to hang up now but I won’t be long.”
“Okay, see you soon, Seokjin.”
He couldn’t stop the grin on his face as he said his final goodbye, his heart racing with excitement as he tore off his old shirt to put the new one on. It was a little creased, but it would do. He didn’t have time to find anything else.
He needed to see you.
He needed to be with you.

"LEONARDO, MICHELANGELO!" An eleven year old Y/N Robins called from her porch door, impatiently tapping a food bowl against the wooden frame she leant against. Behind her, the sun was setting and painted the sky a gorgeous array of pinks and oranges, sweeping together like watercolours. She looked out on the street impatiently, finding its sleeping state both calming and unnerving. Elm Street was never noisy, but after three years of living there, the girl had realised it wasn't a place of silence either.
And she was completely right. A distant, yet soft, meow grew ever closer, finally appearing around the side of a bush. Y/N grinned, affectionately calling out for the birman to go find his dinner, "C'mere Angelo, that's it boy!"
He trotted past her up into the house where his found his dinner waiting.
"Leo!" Her small voice called out as loud as it could into the cool evening air. He had wandered off earlier that same day to enjoy the Riverdale summer heat elsewhere, and the Robins family didn't think anything of it. Just as her mouth opened to call out the name again, Vegas came barrelling out from the door of the Andrews household, across the street to her side with Mary and Archie following.
The Andrews matriarch noticed the empty food bowl, "Is everything alright, Y/N/N?" She asked in her usual professional voice, but the girl knew from experience how much love and warmth it really held. Elodie told her about Leonardo's disappearance and how it wasn't uncommon in this kind of weather, but he could be getting a bit hungry.
Mary handed the dog leash to her son and sent him a secret wink, "Why don't you two walk Vegas together and see if you can find him?"
Excitement had been bubbling through the small town of Riverdale for weeks now anticipating the big Fourth of July celebrations ahead of them. Y/N Robins had planned on keeping up with her old tradition of sleeping in until late afternoon, then rolling out of bed in time to catch the fireworks with her friends. But with with the drunkenly asking Archie to be her boyfriend, which was not something she remembered a few hours later, her plans for this year were flipped on their head. So she found herself getting dressed to go talk things out with her supposedly best friend in a quiet spot next to sweet water river.
With her hair half tied up, and a black denim jacket over her shoulders, Y/N left through the door in her bedroom, and waited on the edge of the pavement until she heard a door across the street open and quietly shut. Any butterflies fluttering in her stomach all but disappeared as Archie turned around and smiled into the early morning sun towards her. It had been three days since they had last seen each other, since the girl confessed she didn't really know what she wanted in the space between them.
He jogged over road, asphalt kicking up under his new Nike trainers, and immediately engulfed Y/N's small frame into his own. The two teenagers walked all the way to the edge of Sweetwater River in the silvery silence of early birds and rustling leaves, their hands every now and again grazing each other and lacing together.
"So," The Andrews boy sighed as he lay against the warm grass, watching as she sat next to him and propped her head up on his chest, "what's going on in that head of yours?"
"Leo!" Y/N's melodic voice rang out across the long stretch of stream. Crystal clear water you could see the smoothness of the rocks which lay underneath if you peaked your head over the bank enough. For some unknown reason, the young cat would always find his way towards some kind of water, even back in Phoenix.
"Hello?" Archie bopped the girl on the tip of her nose as she returned back to reality, evidently not hearing what he'd just asked by the puzzled look her face adorned.
She hummed and gave him her full attention, allowing him to rephrase his previous words. In the back of her mind, Y/N knew exactly what she wanted- to leave high school and go on endless adventures with the boy her head lay upon. She wanted an easy life, away from the eerie little town she called home- to decorate her own house with pictures of smiles and candid memories. But most of all, in that perfect moment, she wanted herself to let go and fall in love with her childhood best friend.
After finding Prince Charming and finding out he was really the one from Shrek and not Cinderella, her faith in true love was shaken at the age of sixteen.
"I'm scared of you hurting me, or doing anything that could possibly hurt you, Arch." Y/N's voice faltered at her blunt honesty, "I meant everything I said, but I don't think I'm over what happened with Chuck last year."
"Tiger," Archie interrupted her thoughts, sitting up slightly leaning back on one hand and using the other to cup her face, "I can't promise we won't ever hurt each other even just a little bit, but whatever happens, we'll learn and grown from it together. I don't think I'll ever fully understand how much that bastard hurt you. But, nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy, life is scary and I'll go through all of the shitty parts twenty three hours a day, if it means I get just one with you smiling up at me."
Half an hour of roaming up and down the river bank had passed before a twisting, nauseous feeling took over the pit of Y/N's stomach. She and her family adored their two fluffy boys, her dad would never admit it but they all heard the little 'goodnights' he'd whisper as he made his way up to bed finally. Though with her parents still working, and Y/S/N desperately needing to finish an assignment due tomorrow, the youngest Robins was the only one able to attend this search and rescue mission.
"What if he's -"
Vegas rubbed his nose against her shin in comfort.
"Y/N/N," A twelve year old Archie cut her off in his usual caring voice, "don't even let your mind go there. He's a little ninja cat he's probably off catching frogs or something."
He grabbed her hand, squeezing it in comfort and heading towards an unexplored area of the forest line. Truth be told, he was meant to be doing English homework with Betty Cooper right about now, but that had slipped his mind as soon as Y/N Robins adorably wonky smile found him across the road.
"Leo!" Y/N's sweet voice called out.
"Leonardo?" Archie followed with Vegas by his side.
"That's the sweetest thing I think I've ever heard." The girl admitted shyly, hiding her rose dusted cheeks by bringing Archie into a tight hug, her head resting in the crook of his neck while her long y/h/c hair tickled his face. It smelt of strawberries and mint in the morning breeze.
"Y/N/N, can I ask you something?" His voice sounded nervous, but as she looked up and nodded, his face held a smirk, "Will you stay my girlfriend?"
She answered with a small kiss, staring into his eyes innocently as her fingers traced his back under his thin t-shirt, about to lift the material from his body. But life had a funny way of throwing challenges their way, making them run before they could walk.
"I think I see him!" Archie handed the leash to his best friend, seeing a patch of grey in between the auburn autumn leaves. Vegas barked and tried to follow after his human, but Y/N managed to stop the Labrador from bounding away by distracting him with ear rubs. Wild growls and hisses could be heard as Archie wrestled the feisty long haired cat into his hoodie clad arms. Then Leonardo hissed so madly, the young boy almost dropped him, "Yep, definitely Leo."
Y/N ran over as fast as she could, dropping the lead as soon as she saw his pumpkin eyes and bare teeth, clearly not a fan of Archie. She grinned widely with glee and got to her tippy toes to kiss Archie's cheek. "You're a life saver!"
As soon as the fluffy animal felt Y/N's little hands rubbing his chin as she took him from the boy's arms, he switched into a completely different cat and started purring.
A gunshot sounded through the open clearing, and before a high pitched scream could escape from Y/N's mouth, Archie saw the terror in her eyes and pulled the petite girl behind him. He scaled the area, unable to see anything but birds fleeing from the unusual noise.
"We need to get out of here." The boy's gravely voice whispered with urgency, picking her up without hesitation and running until his lungs burnt and his trainers once again hit the comfort of tarmac.
"What the fuck was that?" Y/N screeched, her inquisitiveness telling to turn back, but thankfully common sense won that battle. She and Archie found themselves back on the pavement of Elm Street before they knew it.
"Y/N, we didn't see anything, it could've been a car backfiring a street away for all we know." Archie tried to rationalise, but in all honesty he was stuck to his core with dread.
"Right, or someone was just murdered and we could've been next on some psychopaths hit list." Y/N's dark mind shone through as she blurted out her inner monologue. The boy didn't have any words of wisdom, instead he lead her to his front door and brought her into his body. They stayed in their own little world for what could have been hours, thankful they had each other and not allowing themselves to think about what secrets Riverdale was really hiding under it's pretty exterior.
Nothing ever happened in the town with 'pep'.
Betty Cooper awoke early that Saturday morning, ready to get any assignments out of the way to enjoy the weekend ahead. She opened her curtains and tied her hair up into a ponytail, but as she looked out of her window at the beautiful blue skies, she watched in shock at the surprising scene unfolding in front of her. Y/N Robins up on her tippy toes, with Archie Andrews' hands wrapped around her waist as they kissed intensely in what the two thought was privacy.

musical theatre analysis time!!!
“I Think I Got You Beat” from Shrek the Musical
I haven’t seen any productions other than the filmed version of the show that was on Netflix, so I’m gonna analyze that one.
the change in tone from “good morning!! the world is amazing!!” to “you’re an absolute asshole” is very abrupt, and I always thought it was a little awkward. Now I realize its simply Sutton Foster’s interpretation of the character, which is fine, even though its not my particular cup of tea in regards to this specific scene.
Let’s break it down:
Fiona woke up, for the first time in 20 years, outside of her tiny tower bedroom, and saw flowers and birds, grass and trees, deer, everything in the morning sunlight, for the first time IN TWENTY YEARS.
She didn’t get to appreciate all of it the day before, because she
1) woke up in a tower,
2) met the only guy to make it past the dragon,
3) realized he had no clue what he was doing,
4) had to run for her life, leaving behind the only life she had known for the past twenty years without so much as a goodbye, and
5) had to find a place to sleep for the night before the sun went down.
all in all, an eventful day.
but now, the sun has risen, she’s had some time to sleep and collect herself, the adrenaline rush is gone, and she actually has time to stop and breathe and just appreciate life.
And she’s talking to her saviors!!! Who will actually respond to her!!! She hasn’t spoken to actual people in twenty years, and she’s absolutely giddy from the social interaction. And she makes some offhand comment about her life before, and how she’s actually happy for once, and then
the guy who saved her laughs.
He brushes off her suffering, her neglect, her abuse, all because of her status. He assumes she had everything anyone could ask for, with the small price of being alone.
It hits her like a slap in the face:
He doesn’t care.
The first person she’s seen, the first person she’s spoken to, interacted with, touched in twenty years, doesn’t care about her, doesn’t care about her suffering.
He doesn’t stop to think that maybe, just maybe, she’d give up everything, her crown, her title, her family’s riches, her kingdom, just to have a normal life, to be a normal child, to have parents who loved her, to not be punished for her parents’ crimes.
She owes her parents, her family, her kingdom nothing, and she owes him everything, and he doesn’t care.
It crushes her heart.
And when she tries to explain it to him, to explain that she was expected to be the adult her parents weren’t, she was expected to care for herself and survive and accept it, all when she was seven, he still brushes it off, saying that he had it worse, so she should be grateful. She shouldn’t be depressed, or angry, she shouldn’t complain, she should be grateful for the abuse she suffered at the hands of others because other people had it worse.
And that’s when she gets defensive.
Shrek isn’t responding to sincerity, so she changes her approach. She starts responding to his statements the same way he responded to hers, saying that they weren’t that bad, he should be grateful because other people had it worse, and that he’s making a big deal out of nothing.
And they start trying to one-up each other.
And finally, in a fit of passion and anger and years of trauma bubbling to the surface, they both reveal that their parents didn’t love them enough to keep them.
And they realize, even though it manifested in different ways, they don’t have to one-up each other, because they suffered from the same thing.
Here’s where Sutton Foster’s interpretation of this scene and mine differ:
Sutton Foster charges straight from ‘caught off-guard’ to ‘defensive’
She doesn’t take a whole lot of time to show the true loneliness and depression and abandonment that she feels as a result of being locked away. The whole show is supposed to be a family show, and there’s lots of comedy, but because of that, they don’t take a whole lot of time to actually show the depth of the emotions the characters possess. Her introduction song “I know its today” is played off as fun and quirky, and shows, intentionally or not, that the mental and emotional scars left behind were written in more for comedy than for depicting actual responses to traumatic events.
This could simply be Sutton Foster’s acting choices or the director’s artistic vision, but this scene, the little detail where Sutton Foster doesn’t show Fiona’s pain for longer than a few seconds, is a giveaway for those looking for it, for those who have experience with abuse, trauma, depression, mental illness, etc.
I’m not trying to insult Sutton Foster, she’s a wonderful actress, I’m simply saying that she probably doesn’t have as much real life experience with these things (which is wonderful, good for her, I wouldn’t wish trauma on anyone).
Anyone who’s suffered from these things, abuse, neglect, depression, mental illness, they know how abruptly a mood can change. They know how quickly someone’s offhand comment can make your stomach plunge and your palms get sweaty and your heart start pounding. They know how the most random of sounds can trigger fight-or-flight instincts, and they know the loneliness of not being believed by those who supposedly care.
And I think, if that pain, that abandonment, that hopelessness is shown for longer than one second, that scene and that song would be SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL in terms of character development and exposition, and it would make the comedic parts even more important, because it conveys that, even though these characters have been through so much trauma, they still look on the bright side of things, finding comedy in what would otherwise be scary or sad or weird. And, on the other hand, it would also show the characters who haven’t confronted their traumatic pasts, using comedy as a coping mechanism and as a means of forgetting and not having to deal.
TL;DR-
Shrek the Musical is a depressing tragedy disguised as a family friendly comedy, and the song “I think I got you beat” is a great audition song if you can nail the emotional transitions.

KaruShuu OTP Questions
Ah- I created ehhh 4?? I suppose KaruShuu head-canons posts today but do I regret it? Absolutely not, I loved it. So here you go, have another one, don't be shy, read it.
Also, please keep in mind that these head-canons are completely made up by me in a way of that it's just how I would see it sksksk also here, KaruShuu would be probably adults?? Also married??
Anyways, enjoy~ 🌸
Who is the most affectionate? Sinceee they got married, I'm sure the longer into the relationship, the more they have opened up to each other? Karma would be the type to wake up first in the morning and kiss Shuu good morning, but since Shuu is an early bird, he would wake up before Karma and make breakfast for him. Thats how he shows affection ❤️🧡
Most common argument? Sad to think that they NeEd to argue 🙄💅 but oh well- I thinkkk they would argue over super silly things. For example what to watch (If you have read my previous head canons, you will know what I mean by 'Shrek Marathons'):
"Let's watch something"
"Sure, what do you have in mind?''
Karma would just grin over to Shuu and Shuus eyes would widen, "Hell no"
"Absolutely ye-"
"Karma don't you dAR-"
They ended up watching (again for the 12 time this week) Shrek.
Who apologizes first? Karma apologies fly out of his mouth faster than they stop arguing. Karma would rather apologize than not let them talk for the next few hours.
Favorite (non-sexual) activity to do together? They enjoy getting massage! Ifff KaruShuu was too lazy to go out to get a professional massage for a few hours, they would do it to each other. (It usually ends with them making out later on but I'll delete that part)
Who is most likely to carry the other? Karma would carry Shuu ❤️😩 Ugh bridal style to embarrass him 💀💅
Nicknames?
For Karma, by Shuu: Tamponhead (I used this one in my fanfic and I will forever love it), Moron, Karma. Tbh, I don't think neither like these pet-names or nicknames since that think they are 'cringy'.
Tho, Karma has quite a few: Shuu (Main, he doesn't use 'Gakushuu' but when he does, Shuu melts lol), Pumpkin, Orange, pumpkin pie, Strawberry shortcake (bc he loves strawberries so why not call Shuu one 😌🤚🏻), Sugar cube (Idk I think it's cute, tho I don't know if that's even a nickname- 💀💀)
Also a note: They would definitely not use 'baby', 'babe', 'honey' bc- noooo 😩💀
Who proposes? Karma 💅
Who sings along with the radio? Karma would sing along but he is horrible at singing and Shuu makes him KNOW it by him singing and Karma shuts up but finds it hilarious at the same time.
Who worries most? Both do, depending on the situation. Shuu would be worried about stuff like paying taxes or things like that, meanwhile Karma is worried for Shuus health, if he is eating enough as well as getting enough sleep every night. Shuu is a hardworking bee after all ✨
Who always wants to take selfies with the other? Karma wants to, for example they are traveling somewhere for vacation and Karma wants to take as many pics as possible with his husband so he can later on put them into an album ❤️😩 (KaruShuu as a married couple >>>>)
Who likes to playfully tease the other? Ohhh~ Karma teases Shuu all the time, but there are times where Shuu would feel playful so he would tease back
Who has the weirdest taste in their music? Karma I'm begging you- his music taste changes every week and road trips are a disaster for Shuu
Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant? Karma remembers because Shuu is always ordering the same things since he is minimalistic lol but Karma is a living chaos when it comes to food so Shuu can't remember it all.
Who is embarrassed to take their clothes off in front of the other? Lmao no matter for how long they are already together, no matter if they are married, no matter how many times they had done it, Shuu would be the one to be embarrassed about it every time.
Who tops? ...Okay so here, personally as someone who writes Fanfics, Karma tops. Always. I just- I just can't imagine Shuu as a top?? my friends gave me some really valid reasons for Shuu to be a top but I just can't see it 😩
Who initiates kisses? Both I guess? But mostly Karma
Who reaches for the other's hand first? Oooo here an example! If they are driving in the car, and Karmas hand is free, Shuu usually reaches for it but as soon as Karma needs it to drive, he has to let go. Or if they are in the cinema - Shuu would definitely hold onto Karmas hand the whole time - as comfort, since they usually watch Horror movies together so yea 😌
Who kisses hardest? Who is most ticklish? Both is Karma, but when it comes to tickling, even tho Karma is more ticklish, he is also stronger than Shuu so he can easily pin him down and tickle him, just for the sake to see Shuu giggle which kills him bc God damnit isn't he adorable?
Who brings an animal they found home? Lol depends on the animal. I would say Karma is a cat person and Shuu is a dog person b u t Shuu is allergic to cats so they can't have cats. But I think if Karma would be the one to bring an animal home, it would be a dog.
Who holds the umbrella for the other when it's raining? Karma's shoe laces often get untangled, so when Karma bends to tie them, Shuu stands over him with an umbrella to keep the rain from pouring on him.
Who tries to playfully embarrass the other in public? Karma 😭
Who kills the scary bugs? Oh lemme tell you about this one:
Shuu HATES bugs, since he always had the feeling of his father having a bunch of centipedes around himself whenever he acted manipulative and so on so he hates them. So one time when Shuu was taking a shower, and Karma was in the kitchen, Shuu suddenly screeched so Karma went to check on him. He walked onto a Shuu, covering himself with a towel and looking absolutely T E R R I F I E D at the ceiling, stuttering. Karma was hella confused so he looked up and oop here we go, a spider. Karma obv took the spider off the ceiling to free it, but first he had to tease and scare his husband a little by walking towards the shower stall, "Shuu look~ He wants to be friends with you~", the way Shuu screamed at this made almost all of the windows in the apartment break.
Who asks the weird questions at random in the middle of the night? Karma does that on a daily basis, but when Shuu is a little bit drunk, he would ask weird questions to which Karma never has an answer but he jokes around.
Who hogs the blankets? Karma hogs them and Shuu ends up having a cold the next morning 😭
Who wakes up first? Shuu is an early bird, but Karma wakes up first for work.
Who wants to stay in bed just a bit longer? On weekends, they both stay in bed a bit longer to cuddle ❤️💕
Who always makes coffee for the other each morning? Karma makes coffee for Shuu before he leaves for work 🥰
Who cries during certain films or when reading sad books? Lmao Karma cries during Shrek every time the scene comes up where Shrek had an argument with Donkey 😔
Who gets scared during horror films? Shuu 😩😩 He would (as said before) take Karmas hand for comfort
Who tells their friends/family about the relationship first? Lmao none since GakuHOE is well, a hoe so they won't trust him b u t I have the feeling of Karmas mom being actually super supportive?? But they wouldn't tell her, she would just get the hint and then when she receives the wedding invite she goes "oh-".
What do their friends/family think of the relationship? Rio was shipping this since the beginning of middle school aight, she loves it and she even threw a party for them. #IstanRioNakamura
Who is more likely to ask the other to dance with them? Karma would ask Shuu to dance obv but Shuu would go along 😩💕
Who cooks best? Karma! And Shuu loves his cooking! :D
Who wears the other's jacket? Shuu is the one to wear long coats, and Karma those thicc jackets. Shuu usually gets super cold even with the coat on, so Karma gives Shuu his jacket on top of the coat lol.
Who uses cheesy pickup lines? Karma- anywhere. Have an example:
"Hey Shuu, could you feel the shirt?", he asked Shuu while they went shopping and Karma wAsN't sure about his T-Shirt choice so Shuu was running his fingers slightly over Karmas chest with the shirt still on and thinking about the material, then Karma went: "Know what it's made of?", and Shuu looked at him and was about to answer him, but Karma was quicker and continued, "Boyfriend material", ObViOuSlY with a grin and Shuu was a gay blushing mess 💅 but then Shuu went along, "What do you mean boyfriend? I can only see Husband material", and tuRNED AWAYYYYY~
Who whispers inappropriate things in the other's ear during inappropriate times? AAAA I T H I N K I've written sum like this before- So two things that happened:
KaruShuu were invited to a funereal or sum and pls the church was quiet and stuff but obv Karma had to joke around and he leaned over to Shuus ear and whispered a joke into his ear which made our stubborn Shuu giggle and the church was this close👌 to throw them out lmao
Shuu was at work, and Karma likes to call him randomly, but oh well Shuu picks up and Karma starts to tease him over the phone maybe something very sexual stuff (knowing Karma he would) and Shuu just- he is sitting at his desk and his workers are giving him looks about why is he blushing so much.
Who makes the other laugh most? Karmas jokes always make Shuu laugh, sometimes even cry since they are hilarious.
Who would have to bail the other out of jail? Oh my God- Shuu would have to bail Karma out of jail maybe during college years, but I think Karma would mature a bit more as an adult
What would be their theme song? YOOO- A WHOLE PLAYLIST WOULD BE NEEDED-
Who would sing their child back to sleep? OOO!! Karma would be the type to read stories, but Shuu would sing them to sleep :D
What do they do when they're away from each other? I can imagine that they both have those business trips from time to time, so when they are apart, they FaceTime each other every evening to check on each other. Yes indeed they must stay at fancy hotels for their business trips and they are being served food, but they still check that the other one is eating and sleeping well. Oh and good morning and goodnight texts™️🥰
A headcanon about them that stabs your feels? Oh- oH GOD- That maybe they tend to act very distant at first in their relationships?? Or more cold? For example Shuu, he would not really know nor show much affection to Karma and Karma at first thinking that Shuu doesn't love him at all (which isn't true bc Shuu loves him deeply) but then he after some time figures it out when Shuu opens up to him more.
A headcanon that mends the previous one? That they both after some time spend together, have the opportunities to open up to each other, know each other better as well as find out each others weaknesses and strengths which makes their relationship stronger. I absolutely love them ❤️😩

So anyways I made a John Walker playlist and I'm here to tell y'all about it.
[listen to it here]
We start with III - Scalene. This song has no spoken words (I have a whole playlist full of those) and I want it to represent John's childhood. It's calm, collected and comes before our first part:
Part 1: the soldier
Soldier side - System of a Down. Such a classic. Song is about the life of a soldier in the midst of war. Deciding who gets to life and who gets to die, missing home. It's sad shit and it's only getting started.
The Trooper - Iron Maiden. Again, life of a soldier. Except here we have a lot of emphasis on violence and revenge. The us vs them mentality all over.
Sad Statue - System of a Down. Not much of a soldier song but rather a song about a whole generation being remembered by their wrong doings. The statue of liberty here is used as an american symbol which I see fit.
Empty Walls - Serj Tankian. Our last soldier song has a lot of war imagery. Dead bodies, explosions, intoxication, death in general. The clip is also super neat.
Part 2: the captain
Savana fleur (interlude) - Gus & Vic. Our first interlude has city sounds. This part deals with how others perceive john. Which of course is a big deal for him.
Holding our for a hero - Bonnie Tyler. Yeah the song from Shrek II. As the title says it's a song about someone (I like to imagine Olivia signing it) who is desperate in a hero less world who calls for a hero.
Brianstorm - Artic Monkeys. This song is about a guy (Brian) who is super famous and everyone wants to either kiss or kick him. Like John, Brian is being admired and hated at all times. And it's exhausting.
Walk - Pantera. Rock makes a comeback in the playlist here. This songs talks about someone who demands you to give him space and the respect he deserves. Is it reality or more of a wish from John? I can't decide.
The Bandit - Kings of Leon. Here we follow the story of a cowboy who goes out to catch a bandit. All the town's people are screaming on top of their lungs demanding the cowboy to catch the damn bandit. Can you see the parallels?
Guns - Coldplay. A song about melting instruments and toys to make more guns. I'm aware the song is satirical but we can agree that a lot of people see John as a extension of US Imperialism so here it is.
Part 3: The man
The WLF - Mac Quayle. This song is intense because we are about to enter John's headspace and psych.
Broken - Seether feat. Amy Lee. This song is about someone who feels broken because they're missing someone. RIP Lemar.
Animal I Have Become - Thee Days Grace. This bop is about someone who is ashamed of who they have become. Also they can't scape themself.
Jekyll and Hyde - Five Finger Death Punch. Here we have someone with a lot of weight on their shoulders and with a lot of repressed anger. So much that when it comes out they feel like a different person.
Where Is My Mind - Telepathic Teddy Bear. Y'all know his song, it's about being confused lol. But this remix is really good so go check it out. I particularly like the ending.
We're Not Alright - Zebrahead. This song also talks about war but I think it's too upbeat to be in part 1. That's literally it.
Massacre - Kim Petras. In this song the lyrical person is seemingly a force of nature. Lots of violence imagery. I think this is John when he runs after Nico. Angry, thirsty for blood and unstoppable.
The good life - Three Days Grace. I'm this one we have a reflection about the american dream. I'm pretty sure John wanted that when he joined the army. Too bad he was chosen ( by the government, not Steve) to wield the most heavy shield in the world.
Dread in My Heart - Mother Mother. On the last song we have someone with a dread in their heart that just never goes away. They just learn to live with it knowing damn well it will never go away.
Epilogue
Willow (dancing witch) - Taylor Swift. Now this song was used in a Wyatt Russell fancam posted on twitter [this one] so now I can't listen to it without thinking of John hahahahaha. Hope y'all enjoy my playlist.

The Hexer ending songs - A Translation
So, since the polish Witcher series, known as "the Hexer" has been gaining some popularity, but the subtitled for some reason doesn't include subtitles for the songs from the ending of each episode, here is my personal translation of each one of these, with some sidenotes at the end. Now, this is mostly a literal translation, not a poetic one, so I apologise if the grammar is sometimes a bit off. I tried to the best of my ability, but it is very possible I screwed up something.
So, uh, let's go!
EPISODE 1 - CHILDHOOD And in the mountains, the quiet call of the wolf Gets lost somewhere in the storm It* probably also found out That you'll be a witcher Again the quiet voice of the wolf can be heard Like the call of a human Probably only it knows What path awaits you *Instrumental* And in the mountains, the quiet call of the wolf Gets lost somewhere in the storm It probably also found out That you'll be a witcher That you'll be a witcher That you'll be a witcher
EPISODE 2 - LEARNING And so happened what was meant to happen You won't change anything anymore Though the sun's light suddenly faded The sword has been doused in red Stand on the edge of the unknown Don't look back Go by yourself into the wide world The sword will show you the way
EPISODE 3 - HUMAN - FIRST ENCOUNTER It's high time to find out What no one will tell you That sometimes it so happens in life That human is the monster And now you fight With your own thoughts Because, after all, you're supposed to protect people From monsters
EPISODE 4 - THE DRAGON Like the stars above the road, your eyes Like a cup of pleasure, your lips So badly I want to see again today At least a shadow of my old love For a heart, like a beggar, is pleading* Lonely, it wanders at the crossroads And always when I only look at the sky I feel the starry chill of your eyes
EPISODE 5 - A SHARD OF ICE And though your heart burns She's not meant for you This is how blazes of hearts end With an ocean of parting Your fate is already written Your efforts are in vain Like a rock which upon being thrown wants to Find itself as a star in the sky
EPISODE 6 - CALANTHE Stay on the path of destiny And that is to fight Your sword won't know the taste of rust It'll shine with blood And one more right of yours It's the surprise Whoever opposes to it The sword is destined for them*
EPISODE 7 - THE VALLEY OF FLOWERS One can't escape from fate Nor from the memories If they want, they will get you Beyond seven mountains* What pushes you to go forward Always further and further? The more you look for your own path The harder it is to find
EPISODE 8 - CROSSROADS Tonight you won't see the stars That is a glow above Cintra It'll burn and show the world The world that will die Like a murder of black crows* somewhere The enemies are rushing You've escaped but your fates Are made* within you
EPISODE 9 - TEMPLE OF MELITELE To those who you love, the wicked fate Won't spare the suffering Now that they need you You're not there with them And if you only could know From where comes this unrest within you From where the dead stomping of heavy hooves Is rumbling with an echo inside your head
EPISODE 10 - LESSER EVIL Not all that shines golden is gold And (not all) submission is consent* Poisonous flowers lure us in With their fatal beauty Though you let yourself get fooled again Not all is lost Though the black apparition* of a bad dream Is embracing you in her arms
EPISODE 11 - JASKIER Suddenly it started to smell like the gust of Autumn With the cold wind, fled the meaning of words It has to be so, nothing can be changed By diamonds at the tips of your eyelashes Where you live, it's already white with snow Lakes and muds are glassy with ice It has to be so, nothing can be changed By the longing that is creeping in your eyes It smelled of the gust of Autumn With the cold wind, fled the meaning of words It has to be so, nothing can be changed By diamonds at the tips of your eyelashes Spring will return, the rain will flow on the roads Hearts will be warmed by the heat of the sun It has to be so, for there's still a flame smoldering within us Eternal flame, which is hope
EPISODE 12 - FALWICK And you're asking what you've done wrong You keep asking questions You want to cheat destiny And you're being punished Your fate is already written Your efforts are in vain Like a rock which upon being thrown wants to Find itself as a star in the sky
EPISODE 13 - CIRI (This song is the only one not sung by Zbigniew Zamachowski, Jaskier's actor) Don't call for help, it won't come Don't try to defend yourself, don't waste your strength It's undaunted, it's a chariot pulled by a hundred horses And you're riding in it
And even if you'd run from it You're chasing it And even if you'd hide You're looking for it And even if you'd pretend you are Blind to nudity and deaf to whispers
You won't escape from it
You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't conquer it within yourself Know this You won't defeat love You won't conquer it
You'll put down every weapon When you see it
Though they say about you that you're made of stone Though your eyes saw everything When you see it in its entirety
Then You'll suddenly feel shy and know this It'll reach you
You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't conquer it within yourself Know this You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't defeat love You won't conquer it within yourself Know this You won't defeat love You won't conquer it You'll put down every weapon When you see it When you see it When you see it When you see it When you see it When you see it
EXTRA ONE (I found another brief variant of "Jaskier's advice" in the soundtrack of the movie version. I don't think it appears in any episode of the series, though)
And you're ashamed of yourself* And what is this fight for? You can't escape from love, so Succumb yourself to it (The last line is then repeated a few times)
Additional notes: *It referes to the wolf specifically, not its call. The song uses male pronouns for the wolf, as in polish the word "wolf" (wilk) is itself considered masculine. *All the songs from the episodes 1-3, 5-10 and 12 follow this pattern of instrumental, reprisal of the first half and two repeats of the last line of the first half. With next variations of the song, I left the repeats out, since I don't think there's a need for that. (These songs are also officially titled "Rady Jaskra" - "Jaskier's advice") *There's a bit of untranslateable double meaning - "Kołacze", can mean a couple of things - knocking, begging for something, but it can also be used to describe a heart beating really fast. (In addition to "Bije" - "Is beating", in Polish, you can also say that the heart "puka- "is knocking") I wasn't sure which meaning of the word "kołacze" was intended, so I went with the version that makes the most sense, when translated into english. *As in, "They are destined to fall/die by sword". Probably refers to Calanthe's eventual fate and the fall of Cintra in general. *"Beyond seven mountains" is a common way to begin a fairy tale in polish. It's basically the equivalent of "In a land far, far away" (In fact, in polish dub of Shrek 2, the Far Far Away is translated as "Zasiedmiogórogród" - "Beyondsevenmountainsgard") I think it's especially relevant, given how most of the short stories in the first two Witcher books, which this show covers, tend to reference and parody various fairy tales. *Or ravens. Most dictionaries I've looked through state that both of these words can serve as a translation of "kruk". *"Dokonują się" is pretty difficult to translate literally. It can mean "are made", "are done" or "are happening". I went with the first one, since I thought it made the most sense, thematically. *The syntax is super ambiguous here, but essentially, the way this verse is a continuation of the first one, it reads as "Not all that shines golden is gold, and likewise, submission is not always consent", but the way it's phrased it seems to be giving the opposite message. That's why I put that bit in parentheses there, to make it clearer what this actually means. *The word used here was "mara". Now, "mara", has many meanings, including "an apparition", "a wraith", "a nightmare", "a bad vision", "a delusion", but most importantly, it's the name of an evil spirit from slavic (and nordic) folklore. Also known as "Zmora", a mara was a vile half-demon soul of a living person (usually a woman, the male equivalent of mara was called "dusiołek") who at night, would leave their host’s body, sneak into people's houses at night through keyholes and drink their blood while they sleep. Also they would tire out horses by riding on them during the night. Given how often creatures from slavic folklore feature in all the Witcher media, I wonder if this was an intentional reference. *There's an expression used here, which I don't think has an english equivalent - "Sam przed sobą wstydzisz się" - Translated literally, it means "You're ashamed before yourself", as in "your feel as an embarrasment to yourself, specifically." more of less. @abluescarfonwaston Tagging you as promised. Hope you find it helpful!

Neil Josten's Playlist Part 6 - For Himself
Masterpost and link to the playlist in its entirety here
A lot of the songs Neil keeps are just for him. Sometimes you need to be in your feelings a bit and music is the only place you're comfortable doing that.
2. Shrike - Hozier
After he initially found Hozier, this boy didn’t listen to anything else for weeks straight if he could help it. Shrike I think is just a song that he loves the sound of. Pretty much the only thing we know in canon about Neil’s music taste is that he doesn’t like loud music. Which is incredibly vague and generalizing. To me, that tells me that Neil maybe is actually someone who tends to pay most attention to and by most effected by the sound of a song than the theme or lyrics or genre or anything. If he doesn’t like the sound, he doesn’t like the song. But a sound that appeals to him? Oh boy, he won’t be able to let it go. Shrike is like that for him. It’s gentle and smooth and I imagine he doesn’t pay too much attention to the lyrics or meaning. He just lets himself get lost in the sound.
11. Best Part - Daniel Caesar & H.E.R.
Not too much to say about this. It’s soft and beautiful and smooth, and I think Neil would greatly appreciate the sound. It’s a bit too soft for him to associate with Andrew, but he doesn’t need the association to enjoy it. Neil listens to it on his morning runs when the sun is only just rising and the world is still moving slowly. But he also listens to it on slower mornings when Andrew convinces him to forgo the morning run in favor of breakfast and coffee on the couch with the cats.
17. Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
Like some others on this list, this is a song that catches Neil wholly for its sound. Like the title, listening to this song feels a little like getting lost in a dream. There's just something very soft about it, and those are the kinds of songs that catches Neil's attention. He likes that he's found something he can get lost in for a time without losing himself.
27. Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright
As incredible of a song this is, the origin of Neil's connection to it isn't anything super emotional. The foxes made him watch Shrek. He became very attached to this song and would listen to it on repeat for weeks afterwards. They all got so sick of it. His aux cord privileges were revoked. Matt doesn't need to start CRYING while he's DRIVING Neil, THANK YOU.
As for his connection to it, a big trend I'm seeing in the stuff that I think Neil listens to is that a lot of it is very emotional. Sad songs, moving melodies, beautiful ballads. I think Neil listens to music to help him feel his emotions - like really feel them. He's so good at compartmentalizing and shoving everything down and away (as per the trauma of running for the better half of his life), I think listening to emotional music - like really listening to it all - as a means of getting in touch with the emotions he's always shoving aside would be a great coping mechanism for him. To that degree songs like this just strike a cord with Neil, even if there isn't any parallel to draw between the lyrics and his own life. A song is a package of emotion that Neil can hear and unpack and process at his own pace while retaining a safe degree of separation.
30. Obstacles - Syd Matters
Not a whole lot to say about this one. Neil finds it somehow - either through one of his foxes or just on his own - and he finds it incredibly calming. He keeps it close. It makes him hopeful even on days when he can't bring himself to look in the mirror. The steady melody and repeating words help him get lost in something other than his own thoughts.
35. Ashes On Your Eyes - Deb Talan
This is one Neil found on his own. It doesn't remind him of any of his foxes, though, or his mother. It's one of the few songs he has just for himself. It serves as a reminder that he's going to be okay. He has a great support system, but sometimes he likes to find comfort in himself just to prove that he can still do it. Songs like this keep him going on those days where he doesn't want to bring his problems to others.
37. Rivers and Roads - The Head and the Heart
This is one Neil gets his hands on in his final year at Palmetto, but it isn't just about Andrew for him (like most of the others from this year). This one is about all his foxes - his family. It's about how lonely he feels even when he has a whole group of people he lives and plays and interacts with on a daily basis. They aren't his people; his people are scattered everywhere. He only learned how to be a real person after he met them. Now he needs to learn to do it on his own. There's a special kind of pain that comes when he thinks of how much he misses each of them.
39. Unsteady - Ambassador X
This song is one Neil thinks of often when he's having bad days. He'll still always end up having some days where he doesn't feel like a real person, and on those days it can be hard to ground himself - to keep from floating away and giving up on everything he's built to run back to being nothing. What helps him most on those days is not being alone. It takes him a long time, though, to learn how to communicate what his needs are on those days. It's pretty lucky that Andrew can read him so well, but during the years when they aren't living together it becomes very hard for Neil to find the words to ask for help. This song helps him with that. The chorus is so short and to-the-point but is still such a bare-bones lay of emotion and need that it centers Neil enough to realize that he doesn't need to explain himself or mince his words when he's asking for help. He just needs to ask.
42. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
The downside to having the music taste that Neil does is that sometimes he latches onto something that is apparently a bit cheesy or overplayed, and the foxes gladly tease him for liking it unironically. This is definitely one of those songs. It doesn't matter to him that it was basically everyone's 8th grade graduation song (he didn't get one of those anyway, Matt.) He listens to this and thinks of the passage of time and how hard it's going to be when his foxes are scattered all over the country while he's stuck alone in Palmetto. But they'll be happy, and he'll be happy soon enough after that. They'll all move forward but it doesn't mean they'll lose each other (he has to repeat that to himself on bad nights).
The completely serious way he listens to this song is funny to the foxes at first, but Nicky is the first to break down crying when it stops being funny. He's also the only one to break down crying, but that doesn't mean the others don't get emotional too. ("Jesus, Neil, you got a whole team of collegiate athletes getting emotional over the time-of-your-life song. How much more of a fucking weirdo enigma can you be??" -Andrew at some point probably)
47. Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.
Neil has some pretty intense, pretty specific trauma. Plenty of people in the world have experienced terrible things and it isn't a competition. Neil knows this. However, he's also painfully aware that he's someone who pulled the right numbers in the shit lottery. Sometimes it helps to hear this song.
He knows that maybe his own life experiences were not anything close to what the songwriter had in mind, but it still helps. It helps to remember that he isn't the only person in the world who has terrible days. It even helps to know that people outside of the foxes have bad days. It helps to find a way to feel connected to the larger population of the world. It's a definite new thing for him - feeling like he's allowed to belong in the world - but it's very comforting at times.
54. Lights Up - Harry Styles
((I wish I could remember who made a post once saying this was a very Neil song because that was how I first heard it and I wish I could credit that person. Alas, it was over a year ago when I first read the books and didn't recognize any usernames yet :/ if anyone knows who that is lmk!!))
There are a lot of things Neil doesn't know about himself. There are a lot of things from freshman year and before that he still feels some level of guilt for. But ultimately he doesn't regret a single choice he's made. There are a whole lot of things he's still figuring out about his life. He heard this song and really vibed with the sound and what it was saying. Not much more to say than that. He's found himself in a light that he's happy to stay and figure himself out in.
66. Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
Mary was a bit of a Beatles fan. There were several of their songs she'd play on their long drives when they weren't being immediately tailed.
This wasn't one of them. She skipped this one, every single time. Neil fully understands why. For all the indulgence she gave herself in the music she listened to, this one seemed to cross a line she couldn't handle.
Now Neil listens to it on morning runs and good days. And he lets himself feel okay.
71. Fall on Me - R.E.M.
Neil's had plenty of people trying to hurt him throughout his life. He's never really gotten help from people he was supposed to get it from. And now he has a whole family of people who have experienced similar abandonment.
Sometimes that pisses him off.
Sometimes he just really wishes the world was a softer place. Andrew would say it's dumb to wish, especially for something like that. And he'd be right. But it doesn't stop Neil from thinking it sometimes.
73. Hat and Feet - Fountains of Wayne
Sometimes you're just beaten down and worn out. Just once in a while, Neil wants to let himself feel this without feeling terrible and lost for it. This song helps with that.
Sometimes you're just a hat and feet, and that's okay.
