maybe hot take but i do think it’s entirely possible to romance arlecchino even if you didn’t know her before clervie died, it’ll just take a really, really long time. the slow burn of the century, even. obviously there are things you have to be, like an ally to the house and a fatui member, but beyond that it’s really just a waiting game. it’s the progression from colleague to ally to trusted confidant before she would consider even looking at you platonically. and then maybe years of being just friends, at least to her, before she realises that maybe what she feels for you at this point goes beyond the bounds of friendship.

of course, when she realises this, she vanishes off the face of teyvat for a good month or so to go on a nice emotional crisis bender. maybe she even deploys you to some other corner of the continent to very pointedly avoid your presence because uh oh, feelings, and she has 0 clue what to do. sucks to be her, though, because she is also very pointedly miserable without your company. not in super obvious way—it’s arlecchino—but her kids and subordinates will notice that she’s slightly… off. always looking to her side where you’re supposed to be, but aren’t. it takes her a while and maybe a trip to that old broken arena, looking out at the vast sea before she finally reconciles her feelings with herself.

she loves you. not the same way she loved clervie, never the same way—but she loves you.

when she calls you back to her side she most certainly does not breathe a word of this to you. and it’ll take her even more time to do that step, carefully assessing your every action and reaction. she asks the children about you more, and they share knowing glances. your likes, dislikes. hobbies and even guilty pleasures. she almost unconsciously starts to court you, but plays it off as fortunate coincidences.

(the fact that the play is a romance one and the menu item is a couples’ special is a fact she conveniently avoids bringing up.)

i imagine she’d confess eventually in a surprisingly casual way. maybe you’re both standing on the shore, watching the sunset. the both of you talk about unimportant things, but it’s only with you that arlecchino wants to indulge in these unimportant things, if only to hear the sound of your voice. she’d say the words under the light of the pale moon, always having been more comfortable under the silver light than that of the sun’s. she won’t say the words outright, no i-love-yous, but something just enough.

you are valuable to me, she’ll say, watching the waves roll, as if simply stating another unimportant thing. but her body betrays her, the subtle tense of her shoulders and the way her fingers twitch by her sides. you are not expendable.

it’s fine, though, because you’ve known her long enough to know what she means. and when she finally kisses you for the first time it’s with the slightest hint of hesitance and uncertainty, but there is a sincerity in her that you could not deny if you tried. that night you walk back to the house with your arm looped in hers, and as she watches you watch the world she thinks she could never go back to the one she had before you.

I guess what I find most funny about the 'She should call off the wedding because of Colin's entrapement line!' crowd is like. . .y'all really don't get Penelope at all, do you?

She has loved this man for YEARS. She's loved him through his engagement to someone else, she's loved him through him saying he wouldn't court her, she's loved him through multiple countries, through her family mocking their closeness, through a potential marriage to a Lord. She loved him so much she couldn't even DENY having feelings for him to save what she thought was her only chance of getting married. Do you know how easy it would have been for her to go 'No, we're just friends, I don't like him like that, you're proposing to me and that's what matters'? She couldn't denounce her feelings for him even THEN. Even when she doesn't think he reciprocates them and she's made peace with a life with Debling and is expecting his proposal. Colin was *always* first in her heart, through all those hurdles.

Because Colin has been kind in a cruel world, and he's made her laugh, and he encourages her confidence and he's warm and he's gorgeous and he centers her and he values her and he listens and makes her feel desired and beautiful. He's a good man, and her love for him makes her feel good, she treasures it. Even in the books she says it feels good to love a good person, whether he loved her back or not. And now she knows that he does and you think one line that Colin says in obvious hurt after finding out she's been hiding a secret persona for him is enough to shake that love? She spent what? Half a decade looking out her window pining for him and now on the eve of getting to live a life with him as husband and wife, she's going to chuck that away because of one sentence? How lowly do you think of her? How *stupid* do you think she is? To throw away the love of her life over what? Her pride? This fandom's OOC Fanon Pen is a disservice to Penelope's actual character.

Her love for Colin is steadfast. It's made of tougher stuff than all that. It has survived everything that has been thrown at it. Distance, other people, Portia. And y'all really, truly believe that a singular statement will make her go 'Naw, I don't want it anymore!' PUHLEASE. Even when she offers him that annulment, you KNOW she knows it's not on the table.

Stop playing. OF COURSE she didn't call off the wedding. Of COURSE she chose to understand where he was coming from and went 'I didn't mean to trap you, Colin, I love you'. Of course she asks what the marriage will be and is comforted by the fact that he still wants to go through with it.

Penelope Featherington has loved Colin most of her life. It has been one of the few constants in her existence. He has been good to her in said existence, consistently. He's listened, he's cared, he's apologized to her, he's taken ownership of his actions, he's invited her to be more open, he's joked with her, he's supported her, he saw her when she was invisible. She. Loves. Him. And for good reason.

It's not going away because of one line. Or two. Or three. Come back next time when you actually understand her.

Coming out is not a necessity. It is not an essential part of the queer and trans experience. If it’s unsafe for you to come out, do whatever you have to do to keep yourself alive, play whatever part you have to play, find a support system that knows YOU for YOU, and you’ll be fine.

I genuinely think it’s a deadly train of thought to believe that when you come out to everyone in your life, only then will you be truly happy. Every situation is different, and you are always trans, whether you come out or not.

To get this out of the way, I am a 100% believer that Chuuya is wayy smarter than anyone gives him credit for. That being said, despite how Asagiri (+ the stage play) is tying his character to themes of leadership and potentially setting him up to be the next PM boss, I think I'm not the only one who thinks it would be a terrible idea.

Not because I don't think Chuuya is not smart enough for the role, but because he's too empathetic for it. Just imagine the entire weight of the Port Mafia rest on his shoulders, the lives he has to sacrifice for the good of the organization and of Yokohama. He already struggles with the guilt and anger of loosing his subordinates to Q's ability, what more if he can't put himself in the frontlines and has to make weighted decisions behind the comfort of the PM tower that will impact the future of the organization.

We already know that whoever becomes PM boss ain't ever gonna be happy again, like Beast!Dazai was fucked up even more and Beast!Mori was living his best life. So yeah, imma keep hoping Mori continues to live for the sake of the PM not having to choose the next leader.

I agree!! Chuuya would practically be doomed if he became the boss. With how much he cares about everyone around, not putting himself at risk and making others die for him (and we know how self-sacrificial he is) would probably drive the man in so much guilt.

He himself also doesn't even feel like he's good enough for that position (based on the stageplay), so it would only add to the stress. He would probably see every single mistake as his own fault.

He wouldn't be a bad leader overall, but a very stressed one for sure. Im not saying Mori or Beast Dazai don't get stressed, but Chuuya's way of thinking about some stuff does heavily differ from theirs. If he would continue doing all that against himself, he would either finally explode from the anxiety or just lose some of his own personality, for the sake of the job.

Idk what i am even yapping about tbh. I just dont ever want to hear "hello chuuya is a new pm leader" :(( beast Chuuya becoming one was enough
