jjk is pissing me off. there's no setup for anything. gege's like trying to catch up to his own story. like he's forced to just throw any idea at the wall to get a chapter out. nothing means anything. new information isn't exciting because it sounds like you just came up with it. it feels so disrespectful to what the story was near the start and the potential it had.

One of the less-recognized barricade tragedies is definitely it being too dark to see Gavroche’s performance.

This chapter is overall humorous, although I feel a bit sorry for the drunk man left to the monarchy. Gavroche meeting the guard is tense, of course, but he’s joking the entire time (“my wife is in labor” is not a very convincing excuse from a child). And he’s clever in getting himself out of that situation with the cart!

Hugo ends on a very sarcastic note about the prosecution of the drunk man. We know he did nothing, but of course, the justice system is cruel in its “defense of society.” And the cart is in prison, even though it’s just a cart.
