You and Neteyam don't easily argue. Every relationship has a few up's and down's, but you have always been able to calmly work through it. You know just how to calm him down if he's ever stressed or flustered with his duties as the future olo'eyktan, and he knows just how to soothe your nerves.
So when you have your first real, emotional argument, it's completely unexpected.
Neteyam had an exhausting day that consisted of keeping Lo'ak in check, making sure that Tuk wasn't running off into the forest again, and following any other orders that his father gave. Most of the time, Neteyam could compose himself until he'd join you in bed at night and you would hold him through whatever was bothering him.
However, this particular night, Neteyam returned to your shared tent in silence. You could see the frustration in his eyes, so you immediately ran to console him. "What is wrong, ma 'Teyam?"
"Nothing, ma syulang." He was lying and you could tell. He practically threw his bow onto its stand. You rested your hands on his shoulders. "Please, it has been a long day."
"Let me help you," you cooed, pulling him to a seat. He sat down and you began to pluck the colorful feathers from his braids. You'd collected newer, cleaner ones earlier that day. "Is it your father?"
"It is not just him, (y/n)," he sounded annoyed with you and you couldn't tell why. What had you done to bother him in the few minutes he'd been home? "I just want to go to sleep."
You pressed a kiss to his temple. "I found new feathers today, ma txe'lan. Let me remove these and then we may rest."
He huffed out a harsh sigh that felt like a cut in your heart. Your hands stopped their movements; your eyes softened. "Neteyam...have I done something wrong?"
The only thing that was wrong was that Neteyam felt like all of his responsibilities during the day were piling up on top of him. Although he loved to spend time with you more than anything else, it felt suffocating to be insistently questioned when all he wanted was to fall asleep with you in his arms.
Unfortunately, he didn't communicate it that way. "Ma (y/n)," his voice was unusually deep and agitated. "I want to be left alone."
Alone? This was completely foreign to you. Neteyam had never wanted to be alone before. "What did I do?" Your voice almost cracked as tears collected in your eyes.
"You have been irritating me this whole time!" He shot up from his seat, causing you to stumble onto your bottom, knocking over the small bowl of feathers that you collected. "When I come home, I just want to spend time with you...I do not want to be bothered!"
Neteyam had never raised his voice at you like this. When he turned towards you, you closed your eyes and flinched your head to the side. His heart broke.
It was silent for a few moments. Your eyes remained shut until you noticed that Neteyam could barely breathe. When you looked to him, his lips parted with small, panicked breaths. "Ma syulang..." he began, falling to his knees and moving closer to you.
"I'm sorry," you muttered, trying to ignore the tears that were now evidently running down your cheeks.
He shook his head while you tried to hurriedly collect the feathers in the bowl again. "Oh, (y/n)," his hand gently grabbed yours. You would not meet his eyes. "I would never hurt you. I am sorry."
"'S alright, Neteyam."
Neteyam pulled you to him and cupped your face with his hand, gently rubbing the tears away. "You've done nothing wrong. I should never raise my voice like that with you, I'm so sorry, ma (y/n)." You leaned into his hand and wrapped your arms around him to pull him closer to your frame. He embraced you, holding your head to his chest. "Please, don't cry, I would never hurt you. I'm so sorry, can you ever forgive me?"

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐚’𝐯𝐢... echoed through the tall trees. Netzari watched how they pulled themselves higher and higher up the slender green vines to see who was the fastest climber. The beads in her braided hair jingled as she jumped in her place in excitement when one of the boys yelled out in victory, his voice distant and high above. Within seconds, the four children slid down the vines and landed with a soft, silent thud on the ground.
“Who’s next?”
Netzari immediately perked up and had already half grabbed hold of one of the vines before it was snatched back.
“No! Not you. You have four of each, how is that fair?” The girl beside her sneered with the ghost of a smirk on her face as soon as the kids behind her started to snicker along. She pointed at Netzari’s hands and feet and laughed again, “Look how weird! Did your daddy give you those?”
“My father is Toruk Makto, he’s not weird, he’s mighty!”
Another boy walked up to them and shoved Netzari out of the way.
“Go! Demon child.” He seethed the English words in a thick Na’vi accent.
Netzari bared her teeth, scrunched her nose and hissed like she’d seen her mother do before. Her eyebrows were set in rage, but her trembling lip betrayed her true feelings.
“Netzari?” Jake’s voice called out for his daughter, and soon he appeared through the bushes. His face lit up when he saw her among the other Na’vi children, not sensing what had just occurred. The kids immediately quieted down, some even hung their heads down in shame.
“It’s time for training, let’s go.” Jake gently placed his hands on her shoulders, gave the staring children a kind smile and ushered her away. Knowing how keen Netzari usually was to stay and play with the others, Jake was surprised at how easily she let him shepherd her home. Before they could disappear behind the density of the bushes, one of the kids mumbled something under his breath,
“Stay away, sky demon.”
Netzari immediately turned back around. Her ears were flat against her head and she bared her teeth once more before letting out a long hiss. Jake turned, surprised at Netzari’s actions, not having heard the kid speak. And if he had, he wouldn’t have understood most of it anyway. He chuckled dryly, “Hey, what’s wrong? Did you guys not play fair?”
Netzari took a couple of seconds to stare down each kid who held the boy's same hatred and disgust in their eyes, before passing her father and walking back home.
“Next time you can stay a bit longer, I promise.” Jake followed, unsure of what to say. When it came to feelings and emotions, his daughter was a replica of Neytiri. She was a master at keeping things to herself, at the silent treatment, and at times her behaviour confused him. He always passed it off as having to learn to be a dad, to have a child, but lately, he’d seen the change in Netzari. Was this normal for young girls? Was this something that was usual for the Na’vi culture?
Before Jake could ponder any longer, Netzari grumbled out, “I want to go home.”
“Don’t you want to go tracking with your mom?” Jake smiled in endearment the moment he saw her ears flutter and perk up in enthusiasm. “Thought as much. Race you across the river?” He smirked at his daughter, but her usual wide grin stayed hidden, and Netzari only softly nodded her head in return.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
Neytiri immediately noticed something was afoot when she took one look at her daughter. “Ma’tseo (my little arrow), what’s wrong?” She softly held Netzari’s chin to make her look into her own yellow eyes, and saw the grumpy pout on her little one’s face. Ne’tzari shook her head, not budging, but Neytiri tilted hers, a silent order to not hold back.
“They called me demon child and didn’t let me play along.” Her daughter’s small voice mumbled out, and Neytiri immediately closed her eyes, afraid Netzari would see the anger and disappointment in them. Her girl needed to be kept in the dark as much as she could when it came to the whispers that had slowly resurfaced now that the Sky People were nearing their territory again, and she realised that Jake would never truly be seen as part of them by some of their clan. Now it seemed, things had even gone so far that her children were suffering the same treatment Jake had had all those years ago.
Neytiri dropped on her knees to get at her daughter’s eye level, “You are Na’vi, you are ours, ma’itetsyìp (my daughter),” She endearingly placed a hand on her little girl’s cheek, then placed her forehead against hers. “You are a daughter of mine, you are resilient, and you are as special as your father.”
“They mocked him too, but he is Toruk’s rider. He’s not weird, he’s the best flyer there is.” Neytiri smiled through her heartache at Netzari’s innocent and childlike amazement.
“And when you’re older, you too will soar through the skies on an Ikran of your own.” Neytiri held back a smile at seeing her daughter’s widened eyes. She lovingly untangled the few knots in Netzari’s hair, “Don’t let them tell you anything, don’t let them intimidate you. You are Netzari Sully, you are Omaticaya, you are our daughter.”
Jake watched as quietly as he had approached, having heard only the last part, but his heart both sunk and swelled at what he had heard.
“Now go gather your stuff before it’s too late to go out and train.” Neytiri watched the young girl hop over the log, through the bushes and out of sight, her mood now completely shifted after her talk with her mother.
But Neytiri’s mood had shifted too, and hers had turned sour after the newfound information. She stood up and turned, only to see Jake with an apologetic but soft smile on his face.
“Jake-” She sighed out and passed him, continuing to pack the stuff she needed like she was doing before the interruption. “-they tease her. Call her names. Lo'Ak and Kiri too. This cannot stand.”
Jake uncrossed his arms and pushed himself off the tree he was leaning against, “They’re just kids, messing around and throwing around words they have yet to understand. It’s like that on every planet.” He tried to lighten the mood with a soft chuckle, but Neytiri stopped what she was doing and gave him a calculated look that turned more into a glare each second that passed.
She scrunched her nose together, “They understand it is a bad word. And why only say it to our children?” She threw her bow around her shoulder, “They understand what it means, and so does she.”
Jake sighed softly, now understanding why Netzari’s mood had been so gloomy, “I didn’t realise it was getting out of hand.”
He knew those lingering stares of disapproval had never truly left with some people of their clan, but he should’ve put two and two together and realised that their popularity was slowly decreasing now that the Sky People were getting closer and closer once more.
“If you will not talk to them, I will.” Neytiri’s expression had one of finality, and Jake knew he had to step in if he didn’t want things to get worse. Neytiri was fiercely protective when it came to their family. She had already half jumped onto her Ikran before Jake grabbed her hand. He squeezed in it as a way to seal his promise, “You go with Netzari, take her mind off things. I will talk to them. I’ll make it right.”
Neytiri gave him a curt nod, her anger and frustration slowly subsiding as Jake comforted her, “You are Toruk Makto, and she is our child. They will listen.”

🖇️ char. Neteyam x Metkayina! Fem! Reader
🖇️ warn. None, fluff, very long
🎥 In which you are the eldest daughter of the chief of the Metkayina, and upon arrival of the Omitikayans, you fall for a particular someone
Tumblr media
You watched with a shaky breath as your father welcomed the forest people into your home, knowing what responsibilities you now held. The children of theirs seemed to be the same age as you and your siblings. “My children will guide your children.” Your father finished. “But father-” Started Ao’nung, stepping forward to complain, but you hushed him, stopping him with your arm. “That is enough, Ao’nung. We will treat them as our brothers and sister.” You told him, eyes piercing into his as a warning. You were the eldest, and your father had made sure you knew that. You must be responsible, noble, and elegant.
Ao’nung shut his mouth the second you opened yours, not opening it again. You stepped forward. “Who is the eldest?” You asked the Sully siblings, chin held high with pride. A boy, much larger and taller than you, stepped out of the crowd. “That would be me. I am Neteyam.” His voice was like liquid gold, beautiful and soft, both also mighty and stern. You held eye contact, before bringing your fingers to your forehead. “Oel ngati kameie.” (I see you), you said with grace, your voice gentle to prove your maturity. “Oel ngati kameie.” He greeted back, his eyes fluttering as he said so.
Tsireya grinned, excited by the newcomers and waving for them to follow. “Come, I will show you the village.” She laughed. It was not everyday that outsiders came, so you understood her joy, but you made sure to keep your calm. Your eyes flickered towards the eldest, who seemed like a reflection of you. He was quiet, and kept calm, unlike his childish siblings. His eyes met yours, and you couldn’t help but shy away. You silently cursed to yourself. He had won.
To live in the water, they would have to be able to ride an Ilu, the dire-horse of the sea. You knew they rode the tsurak, but taming an Ilu was much harder. You would have to withstand the weight and pressure of the water, while also making a connection with the Ilu. You stood in the water, next to Neteyam, a hand on the head of his Ilu to keep it in place. While Ao’nung, Rotxo, and Tsireya would try and teach Kiri, Lo’ak, and Tuktirey, you were in charge of teaching Neteyam.
“Remember, you must keep a good composure or the water will reject you.” You told him, signaling waves with your arms to teach better. “I understand.” He said, mounting his Ilu. “Be calm, imagine the waves and the water,” Your fingers gently caressed the water, “not the tides and the tsunamis.” You splashed the water, some getting on him. He laughed, and you found yourself laughing, too. You both flinched when there was a violent splash next to you, and watched as Lo’ak lost control of his Ilu and went speeding and crashing into the water. You couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t be like him.” You advised, to which he awkwardly laughed at, embarrassed by his brother.
You pulled him out of the water, onto the reef, just the two of you. “You are not very good at holding your breath.” You said in a soft voice, afraid of offending him. He only smiled shyly, making your cheeks warm. “Teach me.” He demanded, scooting closer to you. Surprised, you widened your eyes, ears flickering in caution. “Please.” He added. You let out a breath through your nose, nodding as you sat straight. “You must breathe in deep. But do not just breathe in, fill your lungs until your upper half is full.” You instructed, before breathing deeply through your mouth. He tried to copy, but you could tell he wasn’t doing it correctly by the way his breath sounded.
“Wrong.” You spat, sitting directly in front of him. “Start here.” You placed your hand on his stomach, not failing to notice how he flinched against your touch. He cleared his throat, before beginning to breathe in. You slowly traced your fingers up the middle of his stomach, to his chest, guiding his breathing. “Slowly, fill your lungs from the bottom of your stomach.” You mumbled. Your fingers lay gently on his broad chest, and you scowled. He wasn’t doing it correctly, again. “It is wrong.” You huffed.
His eyes flickered to yours. “Please, I cannot focus.” He said in a low voice, both of his hands gently grabbing yours that was on his chest, slowly pushing it towards yourself. You almost didn’t hear him, but you grew embarrassed because of your actions. “I am sorry.” You apologized, realizing how unprofessional you had been. “I am not.” He said, still gripping onto your hand. You stared at him, and he stared back. He was strange.
You sat with Neteyam on the deck, the two of you alone and laughing away, joking and sharing conversations. The sky was dark, the freckles on your face illuminating your faces, a single lamp sitting between you two as you both dipped your feet into the cold water. “No, like this. Thank you.” You slowly said, showing him the sign language. He clumsily did the same, and you smiled, proud for him. “Yes, exactly.” You laughed, covering your mouth. He laughed back.
The two of your laughters died down, now sitting in a comfortable silence, the sound of nature enveloping you. “What else would you like to learn?” You asked, tilting your head and resting your head on your own shoulder, swinging your feet against the water. He stayed silent, his mouth closing and opening repeatedly, obviously hesitant. “How do you say, you are beautiful?” Your head turned towards him, eyes wide in surprise. But you quickly recollected yourself. He probably didn’t mean it for you, you told yourself.
He must have another woman back at Omiticaya, though they would probably never meet again. Even so, he didn’t say that to you. “You are beautiful.” You said, slowly doing the gestures with your hands. He stared dead at you, eyes half lidded, entranced with your beauty. “You are beautiful.” He echoed, his voice softer and quieter than before, but with more truth. You ignored him. He didn’t mean it for you.
You followed behind Neteyam, hearing noises of your siblings fighting. When you arrived, there stood Ao’nung, Rotxo, Kiri, and Lo’ak, all glaring daggers at each other. Neteyam stepped forward against your little brothers, menacingly. “You heard him. Don’t touch my sister.” He warned, a finger pointed in Ao’nung’s face. Ao’nung, hesitant, but complied. He raised his hands in defeat, a smirk on his face. You watched, embarrassed of your brothers, as Neteyam and his siblings turned to leave. You stepped forward, your brother and his friends noticing you and immediately cowering upon seeing the angered expression on your face.
“You fools. You are stupid, and childish. You bring embarrassment and shame to our people!” You whisper yelled, deciding not to raise your voice in front of the Sully siblings to keep some pride. Then, Lo’ak turned, raising his hand in front of Ao’nung’s face. “You know what? Yeah, I may be part alien. Look, look, you see that?” He explained, waving his five fingers in front of Ao’nung’s face. “But here’s a cool thing I can do. Watch. If I fold my fingers like this, and then I-” He cut himself off, swinging at Ao’nung’s face and hitting him square in the jaw.
You gasped, watching as Lo’ak hit him two more times, before Ao’nung sprung back at him, the two of them tangled on the floor as they fought one another. Rotxo soon joined in, holding Lo’ak back, before Neteyam got involved. You stood next to Kiri, watching the boys fight like idiots. Kiri laughed, amused, while you huffed. You were a woman, you would not fight. But you were a sister, so you would stop them. “Stop, Ao’nung. Stop!” You yelled, pulling Ao’nung back by the shoulders, him resisting as he tried to hit Lo’ak once more. “Stop!” You got on your knees to pull him back, until you felt Ao’nung’s elbow connect with your face.
Movement stopped, and everybody stood still. Kiri stopped laughing, mouth now hung open. You may fight a boy like a fool, or make fun of a girl’s strangeness — but you do not touch a man’s daughter. Ao’nung held his breath, afraid, while the Sully siblings stared in anticipation. You turned your head towards your brother’s, eyes wide and full of fury, nose scrunched and teeth baring in anger. You stood up. “Stand.” You ordered.
Ao’nung did not stand. “Stand!” You yelled, him flinching as he did so. “Come.” You said, voice shaking from rage as you tried to keep your calm. You refused to humiliate your reputation any further in front of the eldest of the son of Toruk Makto. You stood still, him slowly walking towards you, afraid. He yelped as you grabbed his braid, before pushing him in front of you, walking off.
You stood next to Neteyam the next day, just in the middle of apologizing for your brother’s actions from the day before, when Ao’nung ran up to the both of you. “Neteyam.” He summoned, standing in front of you. Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at him, the expression on his face displaying that he did something regrettable. “Forgive me, but your brother…” He trailed off, trying to find the words to say it. You sneered, hitting the side of his head with your palm. “Spit it out!” You urged.
“Well, he had come and asked for forgiveness, so for truce, we drove him out to the outer reefs. We had left him there, as a joke, but he was attacked by a creature.” He spat out. Your hands covered your mouth, both in shock and fear. You nervously looked at Neteyam, and anger and anxiousness showed on his face. You grit your teeth. Nothing in this world could express the anger you felt towards your brother. “You idiot! You fool!” You hit him with your fist, hard on his skull, but he only felt a bit of pain, as you were only meat and bones. “We must go find Jake’Suli, but after, I will kill you myself.” You then snarled at him, your teeth showing as you hissed.
“Hitting my brother is forgiven. Leaving him for death is not.” Neteyam scowled, grabbing Ao’nung by the braid. On any other occasion, you would defend your brother, but right now, you couldn’t even look at him.
Lo’ak was found with bruises and scratches, but no major injuries. Your heart hurt, seeing what your brother and his childish friends had done to him. You stood next to your mother, your family standing tall as Jake Sully and his family stood before you. Jake didn’t seem too angry, probably not wanting to make it a big deal. His siblings, nonchalant. His mother was angry, but at Lo’ak. You thought Neytiri was beautiful. She was noble and filled with pride, but brave and strong.
You held your head down in shame, knowing how much trouble you were in. You were in charge of your brother. This was your fault.
“Come on, Lo’ak.” Jake Sully said, hand on his back as his family walked away. Your father turned to Ao’nung. “Is this true, Ao’nung? Did you try to stop Lo’ak from going over the reef?” He asked, hand on your brother’s shoulder. Ao’nung sighed, nodding. You knew this was a lie, and you became more disappointed in your brother. You made note to scold him harshly, later. Then, your father turned to you, and you flinched.
“You. Where were you?” Your mother snarled, and you held your chin low, hands in front of you. “I was apologizing to Neteyam for Ao’nung’s actions from the day before, ma’am.” You spoke quietly. Your father stayed silent. “And you will apologize to his family again. Go.” Your father ordered, shooing you off. You bowed your head, shooting a glare at Ao’nung, before running after the Sully family. You reached their home quietly, slowing down and listening in to make sure you came at a good time.
You peered into their home, not seeing Lo’ak, but only Tuktirey in her mother’s arms, Jake scolding Neteyam. “And where were you? What happened to watching your brother?” He said, his voice not raised, but stern and full of authority. You felt a chill on your back. Jake Sully was dominating, and even you could feel that. “I’m sorry. It’s my fault, sir.” Your heart ached, watching Neteyam. You knew exactly what it felt like. You stepped forward, their heads turning to you and acknowledging your presence.
“I am sorry for interrupting. I have come to apologize for my idiot brother.” You stepped closer, trying not to cower from the intense stares of Jake and Neytiri. “I have no excuse.” You finished. Jake let out a sigh, a small smile on his face. He placed a hand on top of your head, as if viewing you as his daughter. “Don’t worry about it.” He comforted, and you stared at the ground. “Tell your father we’re truly sorry for Lo’ak.” He said, his hands now crossed in front of his chest.
You shook your head. “He has already forgiven.” You said, knowing your father would say the same thing. Jake smiled. “You’re dismissed.” He said softly. You hesitated, staring at Neteyam, him staring at you back. This didn’t go unnoticed by Jake, and he waved his arm. “You too. Get out of here.” He gestures towards Neteyam. He bowed his head, jogging to catch up to you as the two of you left. “I must admit, it is charming how responsible you are.” You let the words slip out your mouth, and his ears flickered. He was nervous.
“Thank you.” He murmured shyly. The two of you walked in silence, but a question lingered your mind. Your cheeks warmed, just thinking about it. You opened your mouth, finally. “Have you chosen a woman, back at Omiticaya?” Your voice was so quiet, part of you wishing he didn’t hear you — but he did. He stopped in his tracks, his tail swinging behind him. He let out a breath. “What?” You felt embarrassment from the question, so you turned your head. “Never mind.”
He stepped in front of you, his hands on your shoulders so you would look at him. “I- I have not chosen a woman. Yet.” He added, an urgency in his voice. You couldn’t help but feel glad at his answer, smiling. “Has a man chosen you?” He mumbled. Your ears twitched, nervous as his hands on his shoulders slid down your arms, holding your wrists. “I have not chosen them back.” You whispered, moving your arms so your hands would be in his.
He held his hands out, and you traced your fingers along the tiny scars on his palms. “But I have chosen, now.” You said in a hushed tone, your eyes averting from his hands to his eyes. His hands gripped yours, eyes flickering between you and your lips. “Then so have I.” He whispered as he leaned in. Your heart was beating out of your chest, closing your eyes. You felt his lips on yours, and you couldn’t help but let out a breath, as if saying “finally”.
He smiled into the kiss, your lips moving in perfect synchronization. His hands let go of yours, cupping the sides of your face. Yours laid gently on his stomach as he deepened the kiss. You felt your throat tighten up, wanting to laugh in joy. You have never knew that you could feel this way — not until him. He pulled away, out of breath, and you laughed. “You are still horrible at taking deep breaths.” You teased, and he laughed back.
“I can not take deep breaths if my heartbeat is fast.” He took your hand and placed in on his chest, above his heart. Indeed, his heart was beating out of his chest. You stayed in silence, eyes lingering on each other. “I see you.” You whispered. He closed his eyes, placing his forehead against yours. “I see you.” He said back, not a single ounce of hesitance in his voice.

Somebody's Lover - Lo'ak Ver.
Lo'ak x Fem!Taipani Reader
❧ Word count: 3.9k
❧ Warning: Lo’ak being called a demon (not to his face)
❧ Note: Based of this request. This isn’t the same as Neteyam’s because Lo'ak deserves his own story but I did try and keep a similar premise, I think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Neteyam had made it official to the clan that he was in a relationship with someone, who would ultimately become his mate. It was like the youth of the clan had been scrambling to figure out what to do next. If they can’t have Neteyam, who can they have?
Lo’ak.
It was almost overnight that the shift happened. Instead of people trying to win Neteyam’s favour, they were in search of Lo’ak’s and it was safe to say the boy was less than impressed. It was clear to him that he was the second choice. Lo’ak soon became hostile towards the people that would approach him with their false smiles and intentions.
Do they think I’m stupid?
Where Neteyam would decline people’s requests with regret in his voice, Lo’ak was harsh and to the point. But that didn’t deter them.
A good thing to come out of Neteyam’s relationship was that Lo’ak was able to make a friend, Kalä. The two boys had become inseparable. Kalä’s a few years younger than Lo’ak but that didn’t change anything. They treated each other as equals, Kalä was so interested in humans and their technology that he befriended Spider without hesitation. It was nice to see.
Lo’ak and Kalä joked with one another on their short journey; they hadn’t made a plan for the day. Kalä wanted to go swimming but his sister kept reminding the pair that the boy wasn’t the strongest swimmer but he was very insistent to the point where they had to ‘compromise’. They would go swimming but only in shallow water. Lo’ak swore to his brother and his soon-to-be mate along with all the adults surrounding them that he would watch Kalä closely.
“What about Yaro?” Kalä questioned, jumping over a low branch, “My sister said she’s nice… enough.”
“Absolutely not. She used to be so horrible to Kiri.”
“Mmm, what about Moäì? She has nice eyes and she’s good at making stuff.”
“She’s friends with Tahé.”
“But she loves you.” The younger boy teased.
Lo’ak stopped abruptly, the forest had suddenly become eerily quiet. He stepped closer to Kalä, ready to shield the younger boy from potential danger. And that’s when he saw it, a thanator creeping towards them, low to the ground ready to pounce.
Lo’ak could hear Kalä breath hitch in his throat.
“Do not scream.” Lo’ak’s voice firm, “Do not move. On my command, you run.”
“Where?” He questioned, his voice quivering.
“Anywhere.”
Lo’ak didn’t have a plan but he knew Kalä was his priority, the young boy was shaking against his arm.
“Ready?”
As the pair ran, Lo’ak managed to hoist Kalä into a tree, hoping the boy would get himself high enough. Just as he was to climb himself, the thanator charged towards him, narrowly missing Lo’ak as he threw himself to the side. Rolling down a small hill.
“Lo’ak!” Kalä cried, Lo’ak could tell he was ready to jump out of the tree to help.
“No! Go back to camp, I’ll see you there!”
Lo’ak didn’t wait to see if the boy heard, taking off into the dense forest, the thanator close behind.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
What is he meant to do now?
The thanator snaps forward, causing Lo’ak to duck through a narrow opening between tree roots hoping to catch his breath but the thanator was relentless. Clawing viciously at the intertwined roots to catch its prey. Lo’ak shuffled backward hoping there was a way to escape but just his luck, this tree was at the edge of a cliff. He quickly glanced around in a panic trying to weigh his options.
He could either: sit here and let the thanator get in here and rip him to shreds. Try to fight the thanator but he didn’t have his bow, dropping it when trying to help Kalä. Or he could throw himself off the edge of the cliff and pray to Eywa that he doesn’t die. No option was looking to be successful.
While Lo’ak was frantically trying to find a way to survive this encounter, he failed to notice that the thanator had stopped trying to eat him. It was silent, aside from his heavy breathing. Hesitantly, he leaned forward, trying to see through the gaps to see what was happening.
He was able to see the thanator slumped on the floor, a spear wrapped in thick twine embedded deeply into its head. Lo’ak paused in confusion before slowly making his way out of his hiding spot.
Standing there, on the other side of a thanator, was a girl Lo’ak assumed was his age. Clearly not from his clan. Her hair was braided out of her face and what seemed to be armour decorated her shoulders and chest. She stood tall, unnerved by the sight before her. The air around her seemed strong yet mysterious. The expression on her face is stoic as her eyes ran the length of Lo’ak body before stopping to meet his gaze.
“Come.” she voiced before turning swiftly, and walking away from Lo’ak. She left little room for him to argue, so he briskly trailed behind her. His sloppy movements made enough noise for the two of them.
He followed the unnamed girl until they reached the river connected to the waterfall, his original destination with Kalä. He spotted a lone direhorse grazing in the distance. The girl motioned Lo’ak to follow her as she squatted down, opening a small pouch that he had seen healers in his clan carry.
“Sit.”
Lo’ak followed her demand and sat down in front of her, crossing his legs. He watched as she took out a piece of fabric and dipped it into the river before lifting it out and squeezing the excess water out of it. Lo’ak noted that all of her movements were fluid and graceful.
She reached forward and the wet cloth to the side of Lo’ak’s forehead causing him to hiss quietly and pull away.
“Stop it.” She hissed, grabbing his chin lightly and bringing him back to face her.
Her hand didn’t move from its place on his face as she continued to dab his forehead. Lo’ak stared at her while she did so. Her face held no expression but her eyes were kind. She slowly moved the cloth down to under his eye, tabbing softly. Lo’ak wanted to recoil but the tender hold on his chin kept him in place.
Diving back into her small pouch, the girl pulled out a small jar and Lo’ak was able to recognise the smell as soon as she took the lid off. It was a salve that his grandmother often used on clan members when they would get injured. It stung like no other but it was able to heal wounds quickly.
“Wait!” Lo’ak stalled, his hand circling the girl's wrist before she was able to touch his face. Her face remained neutral as she shook her wrist free from his grip with little effort and dabbed the salve on the grazes on his face. Lo’ak winced every time but didn’t move away.
Unexpectedly, the girl raised herself to her knees, holding the sides of Lo’ak’s head softly, blowing on his wounds. The action made his breath hitch. It was comforting, something his parents would do when he was younger, he knew it didn’t do anything to take away the pain but he appreciated it.
The girl leaned back, studying Lo’ak’s face before standing and turning to the river, washing her hands.
“Come. I will take you home.”
The girl made a clicking noise, causing the direhorse to raise its head and make its way over. The girl muttered something to the creature before making the bond and mounting it with ease. She leaned over the side and held her arm out to Lo’ak, who took it without hesitation. Once he was settled, he kept one of his hands on his thighs, and the other lightly on her shoulder, not sure what he should do. The girl sighed before reaching behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Here.”
Lo’ak didn’t even have time to blush as the direhorse lurched forward, breaking into a gallop. The forest blurs around them.
After a while, the direhorse’s pace slowed before coming to a stop. In the distance, Lo’ak could hear a commotion coming from his clan. He internally winced at the idea of what could be happening.
“Thank you for helping me,” Lo’ak mumbled, eyes in the distance.
“You are welcome.”
Lo’ak relaxed slightly, his hold around the girl’s waist slacking causing his hands to slowly fall to the top of her thighs. Which the girl did not react to. Clan members started to appear in the area, circling the pair. Jake stepped through the crowd, a look of relief on his face before he raised an eyebrow at his son. Lo’ak face flushed, almost instantaneously. He moved his hands like they had touched a naked flame and he scrambled to get off the creature.
“Thanks again.”
The girl nodded, before commanding the creature to turn away from the gathering clan members.
Y/n dismounted the direhorse, giving it a brief pat on the side before it went on its way. Y/n skillfully manoeuvred between the trees until she made it back to her small village, coming face to face with her sister.
“You killed a thanator for that sky demon, why?”
“It was the right thing to do and he isn’t a dreamwalker.” Y/n mumbled, making her way over to her tent.
“We watched him together, sister. He has 4 fingers. A sky demon. Where did you return him?”
“Omatikaya.”
“Ah yes. They love their demons. Isn’t their Olo'eyktan one?” Her sister sniggered, brushing a stray hair out of her face. “The one you saved is probably his child or something.”
“Yes? But does it matter? He is one of the people. It doesn’t concern us.”
Y/n’s sister scoffed before she began to walk away, quickly turning with her hands on her hips.
“I retrieved your spear, by the way. Dad would lose his head if you lost it, again. Oh, the sky demons bow too.”
Y/n hummed and nodded her head in acknowledgement. When she arrived at her tent and away from watching eyes, y/n rolled her eyes at her sister’s behaviour while taking off her armour. The boy from the Omatikaya seemed nice and y/n had to admit that he was handsome, dreamwalker or not. Looking at the bow resting against her trusted spear, y/n thought of how she was going to return the bow to the boy, ultimately deciding to just take it to him.
A few days later, with her mind made up, she began her journey, slinging the bow into her back and her spear in hand. It did not take her long to reach the outskirts of the Omatikaya village.
Doing what she does best, she hid out of view high in the trees, keeping as still as possible which was second nature to her. Not long after she was settled, y/n spotted a girl her age slip into the forest beneath her, a smaller girl running behind her.
“Kiri! Wait for me!”
Y/n dropped down softly and started to walk around the edge of the camp before she finally spotted the Olo’eyktan. Just as she was about to take a step to approach him, y/n was pushed from the side, the force did little to knock her off balance, her lack of movement caused whoever pushed her, to toppled over.
“Who are you?!” The girl, now on the floor, screeched which brought much attention.
Y/n didn’t reply, instead firmly securing her spear into the ground, observing the girl before her.
“Why are you here?!” The girl questioned again, getting to her feet and into a stance that would ‘protect’ her. Y/n could sense the nervousness rolling off her in waves.
“Tahé! Put the knife away.” The Olo'eyktan’s authoritative voice rang through the air.
Y/n’s lip quirked up at the side and she watched Tahé step back, her ‘confident’ demeanour slipping away instantaneously.
The Olo'eyktan finally made his way to the pair, his eyes landing on y/n, a look of confusion crossed his face briefly before it settled on a neutral expression but his eyes were curious.
“Hello. We met the other day, right? What brings you here again?”
Without a word, y/n slipped the bow off of her body and held it towards the older man.
“Oh.” He voiced, taking it slowly, “Thank you.”
Nodding, y/n nodded, pulling her spear out of its place and began to walk away from the growing crowd, leaving the Olo'eyktan stunned. As she reached the tree line, a blur came bounding towards her, only skidding to a stop then the tip of y/n’s spear was inches away from their throat.
“Hi! Sorry. You walk really fast. I would’ve called your name but I don’t know it.” The boy chuckled, “Thank you for bringing my bow back, I wasn't exactly ready to make a new one. I’m Lo’ak by the way.”
“Hmm.” Y/n lowered her spear, ready to continue on her journey but Lo’ak had other plans in mind. Stepping in front of her.
“Why don’t you stay for lunch? You saved my life, fixed my face and returned my bow. It’s the least I could do.”
Y/n watched him closely as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, a slightly nervous look on his face, his eyes sometimes flickering to her side where she noticed the two girls from earlier standing there. The younger girl looked nervous whereas the older girl looked hopeful.
“Okay.”
Lo’ak let out a shaky breath before nodding, “Good, good. Uh, follow me.”
The lunch was an interesting sight to see. Kiri had taken an instant liking to the girl, who had finally introduced herself as y/n. She had spoken briefly to Neytiri, the older woman seemed to be very approving of her. Kalä had come to join them, showering Lo’ak’s guest with gratitude. The younger boy even gives y/n a bone-crushing hug, the girl awkwardly patting his back in confusion.
“You don’t speak much.” Lo’ak pointed out.
“No.”
“Right, thank you again for the other day.”
Y/n nodded and Lo’ak grinned bashfully as she retreated into the forest silently.
Neteyam snuck up to his brother, placing his hands on his brother's shoulders, causing him to jump.
“My baby bro, in love,” Neteyam commented cheerfully.
“I am not.”
“Tell that to your face.”
Lo’ak shook his brother off, stalking back to the family tent, Neteyam laughing behind him. His soon-to-be mate coming up beside him, telling the older boy that it’s not funny.
The following day, Lo’ak woke up early to go on a walk. He wasn’t sure, he loved sleeping in but it felt like a need. He grabbed his bow, a few arrows and hopped over Kiri before starting his journey. There weren't many people awake, the sun was yet to rise.
Lo’ak absentmindedly walked through the forest, trying to be as quiet as possible.
Above him, the leaves rustled which caused him to pause, waiting for something to happen but there wasn’t a change in the atmosphere so he continued. He looked up slightly to see the sun peeking through the vast trees. Momentarily, the sun was blocked out by a dark figure moving swiftly.
Lo’ak readied his bow but before he could aim, a hand touched his back, startling him. Spinning on the spot, Lo’ak was met with y/n. He immediately noticed the difference in appearance, her hair was free of its braids. She wasn’t dressed in her armour nor was she holding her spear. Instead, she had her bow and arrow in hand and a hunting knife by her hip. It was a different look for her completely, she looked relaxed, and the air around her was still strong but less mysterious.
“Wow.”
“What?”
Lo’ak cleared his throat, taking a step back, “Nothing. Hi.”
“Why are you walking about at this time?” Y/n questioned, pushing her hair behind her shoulders.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“I am going to wash my hair.”
“This early?”
“Yes,” Y/n nodded as she began to walk, “before my sister wakes.”
“Can I come?”
This is how the two interacted for the following months. Some days, Lo’ak would wake up early and go for a walk, y/n always found him. Or, the pair would go ‘hunting’ which was more y/n teaching Lo’ak how to be lighter on his feet and focus on his other senses.
Y/n checked the cloth covering Lo’ak’s eyes once more before standing in front of him again, placing small rocks that she had dipped in red paint in the palm of his hand.
“Explain this to me again please.” A defeated sigh left his lips.
“I’m testing your hearing and reaction time.”
“But I might hurt you.”
“I doubt that you will.” Y/n quipped, circling him.
Lo’ak pulled the blindfold up on one side with his free hand, raising an eyebrow.
“Are you doubting my skills?”
“No,” y/n teased, dragging out the vowel, “Of course not.”
Lo’ak huffed as the girl covered his eyes again. Y/n stood at a reasonable distance away before tapping two sticks together. Lo’ak’s ears twitched before he threw a rock, missing the girl completely.
“So, where are these skills?”
“I’m warming up.”
Y/n moved a few steps to her left and tapped the sticks again. Lo’ak managed to get the rock closer but still missed.
“Warming up?”
“Yes,” Lo’ak grumbled, a smile gracing his lips.
Y/n did what she did best and danced around Lo’ak until she was directly behind him. Lo’ak’s ears twitched and he spun on the spot immediately and faced her. Reaching out a hand and placing a single red spot on her arm.
“See, I have skills.”
Some days, Lo’ak would have dinner with y/n’s family. On occasion, y/n would find herself in the Omatikaya camp with her father. He had become fast friends with the Olo'eyktan which was a surprise to everyone since he had made it clear time and time again that he did not want to be associated with the sky people.
During these times together, Lo’ak would catch himself staring at y/n which he would try to disguise. This didn’t go unnoticed by his family, especially when he would return to the camp with a lovesick expression and his cheeks slightly tinted.
“So, y/n?” Lo’ak froze on the spot at his father’s voice behind him.
“What about her?” Lo’ak questioned back, trying to be as nonchalant as possible.
“Nothing really, you two just seem to be spending a lot of time together.”
“So?”
Jake broke out into a smug grin, crossing his arms and putting his weight onto one foot.
“She’s nice,” Jake started, his grin growing wider and his son’s face flushed. “A skilled warrior.”
“Yeah, she is,” Lo’ak mumbled
“You must be learning a lot from her.”
“I am.”
Kiri walked into the tent, raising her eyebrow at her brother.
“Is Lo’ak in trouble?” She questioned curiously.
“No, just in love.”
“I’m not in love,” Lo’ak said, his voice slightly wavering.
“With y/n?! Finally! Does she know?” Kiri beamed which caused Jake to chuckle slightly.
“Of course, she doesn’t know, Lo’ak doesn’t have the guts to tell her.” Jake taunted, Lo'ak's mouth flying open.
“That’s fine, I will help you, dear brother.”
Lo’ak looked between the two in disbelief.
“If I want help, I’ll ask Mum.” Lo’ak grumbled.
“So you admit it. You’re in love.”
Lo’ak gave Kiri a pointed look before stalking out of the tent, leaving his father and sister to laugh at his expense.
The next morning, Lo’ak woke up early but did not leave the tent, he lay stiffly as he thought back to all of his interactions with y/n. Was he in love? It was just a crush, at most. He thought.
How could he not have a crush on her? She’s beautiful.
Lo’ak heard shuffling from the other side of the tent. Someone bent down beside him, placing a soft hand on his shoulder.
“Why don’t we go for a walk,” Neytiri suggested.
Lo’ak nodded sleepily and slowly the two made their way out of the tent.
“Your father tells me you’re in love.” Neytiri started once they were a distance away from any prying ears.
Lo’ak’s cheeks flushed as he ran his hands over his face.
“I’m not ‘in love’, but I do like her.” He confessed without hesitation.
“What do you like about her?”
“She’s kind. She doesn’t speak a lot but that’s fine. She listens to me. She’s been teaching me how the Tipani hunt, it’s so fascinating, she’s fascinating...”
Lo’ak continued to list all the things he has grown to like and admire about the Tipani girl, Neytiri was sure he didn’t realise what he was truly confessing to.
“But I am not in love with her.” He concluded, looking at his mother.
“I’m sure you’re not.” Humour is evident in Neytiri’s voice, “but you should tell her of your feelings, she may feel the same way.”
“And what if she doesn’t, I don’t want to make it weird.”
“And what if she does?”
That evening, Lo’ak sat stiffly on a thick branch, his legs hanging over the edge. Y/n lay next to him peacefully, watching the sky.
“What’s the matter, Lo’ak?” The girl questioned, turning slightly so that she could see his face.
“Nothing, nothing.”
Y/n sat up, turning her body fully towards the boy beside her.
“Lo’ak?” Softly, y/n placed her hand on his chin, moving his face towards hers. “What is wrong?”
Lo’ak studied the girl’s face carefully. Before he could register what was happening, his lips met hers, eyes fluttering closed. The kiss was over before it started.
“Sorry.” Lo’ak’s face felt as though it was on fire as he looked away.
“It’s fine.” For the first time, y/n’s voice sounded timid.
“I didn’t mean to-.”
“Lo’ak, it’s fine.”
The pair sat in an awkward silence, neither knowing what to say or do.
Y/n cleared her throat, standing up slowly.
“I should go.”
Lo’ak looked up at her, ready to apologise again but the words were stuck in his throat as a single woodsprite floated down from the trees, followed by several more. As if she heard them, y/n spun around, shock appearing on her face. Lo’ak scrambled to his feet, almost falling over the side of the branch but he managed to steady himself as woodsprites circled him as well.
Y/n turned to face him, a smile lighting her face.
“I really, really like you, y/n.” Lo’ak confessed, lowering his gaze, feeling slightly embarrassed, “I, uh, just wanted you to know.”
“I really like you too, Lo’ak.”
Lo’ak’s head perked up, his eyes widening, “Really?”
“Yeah, I do.”
Y/n stepped forward, taking his hands in hers, gently brushing her thumbs over his knuckles. The small act of affection reassured Lo’ak, any fears he had melted away.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” Y/n questioned humorously.
Lo’ak nodded with a smile before placing a gentle hand under her chin, leaning in for another kiss.
“Finally!” Tuk yelled in the distance before Kiri slapped her hand over her sister's mouth.
“Shhh!”
Neytiri grinned to herself at the sight, little Tuk giggling behind her hand trying to keep quiet. Jake and Kiri high-fived silently behind them. Neteyam nodded to himself, kissing the back of his soon-to-be mate's hand.

You paced in your kelku, your hand going to your stomach unconsciously as you thought about your mates and children being out there fighting those demons all by themselves, you couldn't just sit here on the shore and wait for them to come back, you knew the risk but you weren't about to let your mates be alone on the battlefield.
your twin watched as you dug a pit in the middle of your mauri as you paced back and forth, his eyes never leaving your worried form walking out of the kelku, as you called your ilu he stopped you "y/n…." He said softly, looking down at your abdomen and back up into your eyes but you shook your head "not now, te" was your only reply, instantly mounting your ilu and making your way towards the raging cold waters of the battle.
You were horrified to see the sight in front of you, the demon ship was crashed on the rock Island, people fighting and killing whoever in sight, your ears going flat against your forehead as you made your way towards the ship cautiously, the sky was dark and gloomy, sun setting down in the distance, the only light was from the fire that shone over the ship was from the explosion.
You climbed on the cold metal as the scene unfolding on the sinking dock made your blood run cold, Kiri in the grasp of that demon, his knife against her throat, Neytiri standing in front of them with her own knife against a human's chest, but a loud cry from tuk grabbed your attention as she ran into your arms "MAMA!!" you picked her up hurriedly.
Jake immediately pulled you behind him, his eyes wide in fear "what are you doing here?!" He whisper-yelled at you in concern, though you tried to answer but the na’vi looking man in demon clothes let Kiri go with a yell as Neytiri almost killed the human child in her grasp, a ruby red cut marred his chest now, Jake instantly pushed you behind him “stay behind” he ordered, tuk wrapped her arms around your neck, clinging onto your side, while burying her face in the crook of your neck and shoulder, Neytiri jogged back to you as she kissed your and tuk's foreheads, checking for any cuts and bruises “thank Eywa, are you okay, ma’yawne?” Her voice was strained from the fight, everything was happening too fast for her to comprehend “I’m okay… for now i guess” you answered back as the unease inside you grew, the only thing she knew is that she needed you and her family safe.
Walking away from the scene, Neytiri's arm around your waist as you carried tuk on your hip, the water filling in, breaths shivering out of everyone's lips, Kiri and the human child, Spider, walking behind you, your eyes going back to Jake as he fought the demon with all his might.
The distraction was enough as your foot slipped going straight into the open door of the sinking ship, the water sucking you in forcefully as tuk screamed in your neck, holding tightly as Neytiri yelled, wide eyed, holding onto your hand but the force was too great and her hold went slack, your body slamming onto the metal bottom with a loud ‘thud’, the water drowning out your cries for help as you struggled to keep tuk close to you, coughing and spitting out the salty water at the sudden impact but strong arms pulled you up, face to face with Neytiri, her hands wiping the water out of your eyes, pulling you and tuk close to her chest "oh eywa, thank you great mother" she whispered kissing you softly before pulling you through the tunnels of the ship, water pouring in heavily as tuk clinged to your hip once again, face buried in your neck "mama….I'm scared" Her voice quivering and shaking as you held her close, walking through the cold water "shhh we'll be okay, stay close to me, okay?" You whispered back with as much of a steady voice you could muster, her little nod was all you needed.
Falling and tumbling through the hallways and rooms, you were now trapped, the tunnel filling in will water, Neytiri held you and tuk close to her, your heart beating fast as you looked around the closed walls, ears flat on your skull, tail swaying as your body starts to tremble, the lights going out one by one making your heartbeat pace faster than rolling winds, your breaths getting cut short and Neytiri noticed your change in behavior, carefully making you look at her by hooking a finger under your chin "ma'y/n, mawey, tiyawn mawey" she whispered caressing your cheek, making you breathe evenly with her "it's okay, yawne, we will get out of this, we will" she whispered, looking in your eyes, her statement firm at the end, tuk looked at your disheveled state "mama, it will be okay" she said kissing your cheek to reassure you.
You tried to calm down but the fear reside, hands shaking, body trembling, head light as feather and bile rising up your throat, you knew something was terribly wrong, neytiri rubbed your back, whispering sweet nothings in your ear to distract you but the water levels were rising, though you were a water na'vi the rising water made you uneasy and nervous, the surface of it was now up to your necks, your breathes coming out in short puffs of air as you held tuk as High above as possible, the three of you huddled together, praying to eywa to get out of here when a sudden bright light filled the space, hundreds of glowing fishes swam towards your direction and soon kiri's head popped up at the end of the tunnel with a big squeal from tuk, happy to see her sister again, even with a smile playing on your lip you knew your state was getting worse and worse and Neytiri saw it as her arm was supporting your waist as she held you close to her.
Getting out of the sinking ship as your group broke the water surface taking deep, enriching breaths of air, reaching payakan slowly, Jake pulled you into his arms, hugging you tightly as his own breaths puffed up, but you couldn't care less, eyes drooping close as your body went limp in his arms, the stress from the confinement and war taking a toll on your body, the only sign of you being alive is your steady breathing and heartbeats thundering in your chest.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
Bright morning rays of the sun filled the entirety of your tent, the war was over but the tension in the environment was still the same, your unconscious body was lying comfortably on a mat, your twin and tsahik working together on getting you back in a conscious state, Kiri rubbing the sole of your feet to keep you warm, Neytiri was worried sick holding your hand in her’s as Ronal had a hand placed on your stomach as her eyes wide while pressing lightly around your abdomen to be sure of what she was feeling, te'yul cringed as he had promised you he'll keep it a secret until you decided it was the right time.
Ronal checked again just to be one hundred percent sure, Jake was pacing outside the tent with Neteyam, Lo'ak and spider trying to sneak inside, Kiri sitting near your feet, rubbing some warmth into them when Ronal looked at neytiri with a vexed expression "Did you know?" her voice angered and upset, Neytiri furrowed her non-existent eyebrows, a big question mark visible on her face "what?!" Ronal was fuming at this point "Did. You. Know?" This time Neytiri was taken aback and even Jake entered the tent from the anticipation of what's going on with Ronal’s raised voices at Neytiri and because his legs were aching from the amount of pacing he did outside, the couple were worried for their mate as you laid with your eyes closed "what's going on?" Jake asked carefully as he saw Ronal's enraged face and demeanor.
Te'yul came in between the budding argument, resting a hand on Ronal's shoulder to calm her down as he faced Jake and neytiri to see their confused expressions, he apologized internally to you for breaking your promise without your permission he was worried for all the reactions he’ll get after this, his tone was tuned down as he spoke "y/n is pregnant…..with twins"

The whole sully family sat around your sleeping form, Jake's arms wrapped around Neytiri's shoulders comforting her as best as he could, tuk was laying beside you, hugging you close as she slept next to you, her little arms thrown over your torso, kiri, Neteyam, Lo'ak and spider huddled together as they watched you and tuk sleeping together, te'yul sitting in a corner as he worked on some pastes and herbs for you, preparing some syrups for your future symptoms of the pregnancy, waiting for you to wake up soon.
The word of your health spread throughout metkayina like wildfire, everyone's new topic of gossip was your pregnancy, of course this is the first time a child with both metkayina and omaticaya features would be born, that too not one but two babies at once, a miracle by eywa herself, though it was quite predictable given you were a twin and Jake was a twin as well, it was bound to happen.
After a week and a half of no sign of movement your eyes fluttered open, the soft rays of the sunset hitting your irises making them dilate and contract quickly, tuk saw you waking up first, as she refused to leave your side, and squealed running around telling everyone “MAMA WOKE UP! MAMA WOKE UP!” Te'yul immediately coming up to your side as Neytiri and Jake did, ignoring the fact that Jake almost ran over a kid to get to you, you didn't blame him for it, he was worried after all, Ronal was called as they all looked down at you, Ronal and Te'yul working on you as they tried to bring you back to your full consciousness, ronal with her ear pressed to your chest then to your stomach, Te’yul applying a soothing paste to the base of your throat, Jake on the other hand was a nervous wreck, he sent out a message to norm and team to come by, it's not like he didn't trust the metkayina healers or your own brother at that matter but for his own peace of mind.
A few hours later when everyone calmed down and with Te'yul forcing you to drink a bitter syrup with a "it's good for the babies'' which you had no idea what it did, now you were finally relaxing with your family, again the word of you waking up was all around the village but the Sully's didn't care, all they cared about is that you're awake, well and very much alive, Jake almost cried tears of relief when norm said everything was okay with you and your babies, for the family there wasn't anything more happier than you and the babies okay and healthy.
Now that the environment was much calmer not one of them was ready to leave your side, Jake and Neytiri were on your side, tuk cuddled into your chest, kiri in between you and Neytiri, Lo’ak in between Jake and you while Neteyam had his head snuggled on your stomach, being careful so he won’t “hurt” his new baby brothers or sisters, all of you were a tangled pile of limbs and love, Jake would lovingly give you a few kisses while Lo’ak who was in between grimaced and gagged at the sight, Neytiri chuckled and shook her head, snuggling close to everyone she gave tuk a small kiss on her temple as she slept on your chest, this was the best time for the family to be all together, at peace and happy as they all drift asleep as their love for one another floated in the air strong and radiant.

~ 2 months pregnant ~
You were given complete bed rest for the time being and Neytiri was adamant on not letting you step out of the hammock let alone the mauri, constantly checking over you every two hours, bringing you fruits, soups, and whatnot.
Jake wasn't anything less than Neytiri was, he'd walk into your shared mauri with a worried expression. Run a hand over your slightly swollen belly, give you a kiss on your forehead and if you were awake he’d bombard you with questions for several minutes on end “are you feeling okay, babygirl?” “Do you feel nauseous?” “Does your stomach hurt? Does your back hurt? I can give you a massage if you want”
he’d pestered continuously back and forth in his visits throughout the day, he was worried as twin pregnancies are rare in na’vi, plus the babies being half omaticayan and half metkayian, it added more tension to his growing worry day by day as the pregnancy progressed.
“ma’Jake, I’m fine! I’m pregnant, not dying!” you spoke with a hint of annoyance tracing your voice after his 1000th query of your health and it's not even complete 2 months yet “baby, i know that, but you’re pregnant with MY twins and I’m worried, so its better you answer those questions to me, tiyawn” he whispered in your ear and planted a soft kiss on your temple, you knew there was no escaping his sweet slick words.
Neytiri and the kids were nothing less than Jake, tuk was glued to your side, being the youngest she was mesmerized by your belly and happy that she won’t be the youngest anymore, while neteyan, being used to seeing his mom pregnant with his siblings before, he was just the gentleman to you as his father, always making sure if your comfortable or not, bringing in fresh fruits and meat for you, placing his head on your belly to hear the babies’ heartbeats, while Lo’ak did his best to keep up with the fact that he’s getting not just one but TWO new siblings at the same time, poor boy would cling to you and ask if you’d love him and the others less because you’re getting your own babies now, you’d hold him tight in your arms and reassure him that you’d love him just as much as before and the others, that the babies won’t change it as he opens up to you “mama, i still want to spend our swims together after this” he’d whisper hugging you “of course we will, you and i will have lots of fun once i have your siblings, i’ll even take you to my favorite place” a smirk dancing on your lips as you reassured him and pressed a kiss on his head.
Spider was nervous and intrigued by everything about you, not having met you before he was a little scared if you’d accept him, though Neytiri was reluctant to let him be anywhere near you, she quickly backed down when you reassured her that it was okay, your warm and welcoming smile was enough to let him feel at ease, he grew more attached to you day by day, looking up to you like a mother he never had, you didn’t expect yourself to as protective of him, not knowing whether it was your pregnancy or because he was so small compared to others, you were protective of him immediately.
“Spider, why don’t you sit with me? I’ll put your hair up for you” you’d say with a loving voice he couldn’t ignore, but there was a hint of worry too, he didn’t know the way of the water and you didn’t him to be hurt plus it was nice to have some company, He’d comply every time you asked him though, he wasn’t about to refuse some head pets from you, it’s not even been a few months living with you and he was already calling you ‘mom’ which surely melted your heart every time he called you that “coming, sa’nok” he’d say before coming right up to you with a hug or cuddles, it was his favorite thing to do now, he still kept in mind about your belly before doing so.
Jake was happy to see you and him bonding together, he was nervous on how neytiri would react but it surprised him how quickly she backed down when you asked her to, still he was happy about the fact that spider was finally getting the love and attention he deserved.
~ 6 months pregnant ~
The babies were growing and thriving, while also leaving you at the mercy of their cravings, the night shone bright, the chirping of the creatures outside weren’t doing anything to put you back to sleep, Jake and Neytiri were on your sides sleeping peacefully while you laid awake, mouth watering with the thought of tasting utumauti at such ungodly hour, you looked at jake who was snoring softly, one arm wrapped around your swollen middle while you were using his other arm as a pillow, his bioluminescent freckles glowing bright in the darkness as he slept.
“ma’Jake, wake up…. Please” you whispered to him as you couldn’t help yourself now, you needed to taste it, midnight or not, instead of him Neytiri woke up as she looked at your attempts to wake him “do you need anything, paskalin?” her voice was soft yet rough from the sleep which startled you a bit, now you were a bit embarrassed to say that you were hungry even after eating a big dinner “ohh tiri… it’s just… um i wanted some utumauti” she chuckled getting up from the hammock “that’s it? You could have asked me sooner, ma’txelan” she said pressing a kiss on your temple before heading outside to get some for you.
In a few minutes she was back with quite a few Utumauti in her arms, keeping silent as she cut them up in cubes while you sat beside her near the fireplace, everything was quiet, all the kids and the village sleeping, the only sounds that could be heard were Jake’s snoring, creatures chirping, waves crashing outside while you munched on the fruit pieces.
“Is that good or do you need more?” her voice was sweet and filled with love as she watched you eat, her hand caressing your back gently, you shook your head “No, this is enough, thank you” your giggle bringing a smile on her face as you had already eaten at least five utumauti by now, she didn’t mind though, she’d bring the whole damn tree if you asked her.
When jake turned in the hammock and felt both you and neytiri out of place, he woke up to the sight of you and Neytiri sitting close together while you satisfied your midnight cravings, she had her arms wrapped around your midsection, he felt a warm feeling build up inside his chest at the scene in front of him, though he wasn’t a part of it, he was still content and happy to just witness it, going back to sleep while the memory played in his mind and a smile lingered on his lips.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
The twins could now move and kick very well, which also made all the sully’s take turn and sit in front of you with their hands on your growing belly, Jake was the most persistent one as he still didn’t get to feel the baby while everyone else felt one or both the babies move or kick, even Rotxo had his turn fulfilled and Jake didn’t, which frustrated the hell out of him.
“Ma’Jake, you can’t force the babies to move if they don’t want to” you spoke as you and Neytiri were holding back your laughs so you wouldn’t frustrate him even more “but they moved for everyone else!” he said in almost a whiny voice as he removed his hands from your stomach.
Your stomach, that now held your twins with a beautiful curve to it didn’t show any movement, he let out an exasperated sigh with a frown looking at your belly, Neytiri decided to tease him more “maybe the babies love their sa’nok and sa’nu more” she said with a smirk as she placed her hand on the top of your belly and to everyone's surprise one of the babies moved under her touch as if agreeing with her, Neytiri in result bursted out laughing not able to hold in any longer, Jake on the other hand frowned even more as you tried to comfort him while trying not to laugh yourself as he crossed his arms across his chest “they’re not even born and they already don’t like me” which only caused Neytiri to laugh more and Jake to roll his eyes at her, you were now stuck with a sulking Jake and overjoyed Neytiri “they will move for you jake, give them some time, sayrip” you said with a smile as he sulked.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
You were having a particularly hard day walking around, back strained, legs and ankles swollen, Jake was the one overlooking you as Neytiri was out for once after being cooped up with you for the period of the entire pregnancy, she went out fishing to try new things, the kids were out as Tsireya invited them the night over at their mauri and Jake couldn’t be more happier to have you all for himself all day and then with Neytiri at night, once again you were restricted to the hammock but this time you were grateful for it, the nap was treating you well after all those sleepless and restless nights, Jake, on the other hand, was preparing a meal for when you wake up, as the day went on you woke up with a slight pain in your abdomen, dismissing it as you got up.
Eating with Jake in a peaceful silence when the pain was getting harder to ignore, your hand instinctively moving towards his hand as a dull yet sharp pain went through your abdomen, which definitely caught Jake's attention “darling, you okay?” his eyes going wide in alarm as he grabbed onto want just happened, forgetting all about the food as he connected the dots, the sudden tiredness, unusual cramps, constant back pains, it was clear you were going into labor, he knew the signs after three times with Neytiri, getting to your side as his rough calloused hand caressed the side of your head “shhh it’s gonna be okay, don’t panic, stay calm and breath okay? I’ll call Ronal and your brother, stay here!” he whispered soothingly as you caught onto the moment and nodded this was it…..you are going to give birth.
After waiting for jake to come back, you were on all fours as you felt the first of the contractions coming which were in no way pleasant, they immediately got to work, easing you in a more comfortable position as the pain and adrenaline starts to kick in, Jake getting behind you as he rubbed your back, kissing your forehead “there you go, hold onto me and relax, deep breathes remember?” he whispered directly in your ear as he tangled his hand in your hair but only one thing ran through your mind “Call Neytiri!! I can’t do this without her!! I want tiri” your cries were heard as someone was sent to get her.
She came running and stumbled back to your shared mauri, bursting through the flaps dropping her bow and arrows in an instance as she got to you “I’m here, I’m here syulang” she said encouragingly as she kissed your forehead, her breaths were quick and short but she didn't care, you were her first priority and the babies, that’s all she cared about.
You were kneeling on the woven flooring of the mauri, your breaths coming in short puffs of air, cheeks red and wet from the efforts as Jake supported you from behind and neytiri was kneeling in front of you, gently caressing your contracting abdomen, kissing your temple lovingly as they both tried to comfort you through the pain, tears flowing down your cheeks as your head was buried in neytiri’s shoulder.
“tiri, it hurts so much, i can’t do this ahh please ughh'' your whimpers were painful for her to hear, she ran a hand through your hair, kissing the top of it “it’ll be over soon, paskalin, you can do this just hold on a little longer” her whispers of reassurance did wonders to calm you down but the contractions that racked your womb pulled another scream of pain from your throat.
you rocked your body back and forth to soothe the pain holding onto neytiri for dear life “ohhh GREAT MOTHER! Why does this have to hurt so much!!!” your cries ringing through the mauri and te’yul let out a chuckle.
“i told you so, it's your fault that you decided to get pregnant and-” a loud groan from you shuts him up “shut the fuck up for moment, you skxwang! I didn’t ask for your opinion right now! I swear to eywa I’ll-” your rant was stopped by Jake as he made you look at him with his finger under your chin, though everyone was surprised at your outburst.
“easy, easy there, sweetheart, take a deep breath with me, i know it hurts but you have to calm down for the babies'' he whispered looking down in your ocean blue eye that now welled up with tears, holding your hand in his as he ran the pad of his thumb over your knuckles then glared daggers at te’yul for his remark while you're twin just shrugged.
you groaned not having the patience to go through all this, Ronal hits te’yul upside his head with a quick reprimand about not to rile a laboring woman, you groan loudly, throwing your head back on jake’s shoulder as you squeezed his hand in a vice like grip while bearing through the contraction “I hate you jake! You did this to me! I hate you so much” you cried, eyes screwed shut in pain, your grip on his hand so tight it sprained his wrist but he didn’t dare to utter a single word against it as he saw the amount of pain you were in was way greater than his sprained wrist, he smiled “I’m sorry, sweetheart, now please concentrate” he whispered, not taking your comments to heart, Neytiri chuckled kissing your forehead and looked at Jake with a smile, she yelled the same things to him while giving birth to Neteyam, Lo’ak and tuk so he was now used to it by now, he didn't mind being the punching bag, verbally and physically.
“Its okay, ma’tiyawn, you can blame him, it's his fault anyways” she said with a smile, adding fuel to the already blazing fire while Jake rolled his eyes at her trying to distract you from the pain as much as possible, but you weren’t in the mood to smile or laugh as the contractions were numbing your thought process.
Ronal had a worried look on her face “let her speak what she want, it's better she if lets it out” as she came up to the three of you with a bowl of dark green liquid in it, kneeling down beside you she brought the bowl to your lips “drink this, child, you’ll feel better, let your body do its thing, do not hold back” you drank the, for once, sweet liquid in two gulps, you tried to relax but it was easier said than done.
Neytiri and Jake did their best to calm you down through your screams of agony, the liquid will take a few minutes to show effect but when it does the moan of relief you let out is louder than any scream you let out before, which earned another fit of chuckles from te’yul while Ronal glared at him this time, even Jake couldn’t hold back his smile at that, you placed your head on Neytiri’s shoulder again as she rubs your back lovingly while Jake holds his hand on your hip, the other sprained one was still being used as a stress ball by you, even while you were in such immense pain te’yul couldn’t help but smile, you were his sister, yes, but he’ll also make puns about this moment when all of this is over.
Ronal walked over to Neytiri as she placed a hand on your shoulder “i think we should go to the hot water springs, the warm water would help her a lot” she said sympathetically looking at your worn out and exhausted state and both Jake and Neytiri nodded in agreement.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
Your twin and Ronal were both working on getting the place ready to help you through the birth but that was still a long way ahead, Jake carried you in his arms bridal style to the springs, your eyes closed, mind clouded with pain as soft mewls left your lips while your nails dug into his shoulder and arms, reaching the pond he slowly lowered your body into the warm water, the liquid immediately helping with the soreness and subside the pain to some extent.
Jake got behind you, once again giving you support to lean on, your body was already drenched in cold sweat before, the beads of water and sweat ran down your skin, Neytiri got into the water as well, standing in front of you as she caressed your cheek, giving you a sweet kiss on your lips as your face scrunched up in agony from the new contractions “shhh you’re nearly there, yawne, just a little more and you’ll meet your babies, breathe ma’txe’lan breathe, in and out” she whispered stroking your swollen stomach and rubbing your back, Jake kissed the nape of your neck “you’re doing so good, sweetie, we’ve already gone through the first half of it, this is the last stretch, i know you can do it” their words of encouragement gave you motivation to push through it, head rolling back on his shoulder, by now you didn’t have it in you to scream anyways, Exhaustion was taking its toll on your body, the soft groans and tears that were rolling down your already wet cheeks were the only signs of your ongoing suffering.
Ronal checked your dilation as Neytiri wiped the sweat and tears from your face and neck, helping you drink some water to keep you hydrated while going through such painful period which she was familiar with but even the simplest act of drinking a sip of water was difficult with the oncoming waves of contractions in your womb, new batch of tears stream down your cheeks as Neytiri wiped them away gently.
Her’s and Jake’s faces were twisted in a frown as they hated to even see you get a scratch let alone to see you writhe in pain like this was making them worried sick by the passing second, Neytiri’s hands massaged your hips to loosen any tense muscles to help the parturition even more, another intense pain ripped through your abdomen as you grit your teeth against it, eyes shut tightly in pain, lips pressed in a thin line and Jake couldn’t see you in pain anymore “okay, this is enough…” he whispered as he brought his queue forward and connected it yours, Ronal tried to say otherwise but the decision was made, Neytiri following suit connecting with the two of you, the full force of the pain now washing over them, Neytiri was accustomed to it by now but still shuddered at the sudden rush of feelings and even when Jake had assisted Neytiri with all her births like this but the feeling of the pain was always unexpected for him.
Now with the queues connected they held you, gently caressing and massaging your body to ease you in any possible way, you felt their calming thoughts filling your mind as your braids connected together "you can do it, tiyawn, just push through it, Love, everything will be over soon, it will be all worth it" Jake's whispers of affection and comfort falling over deaf ears when the first of the twins started to make an appearance resulting in your roars of pain and clutching Jake's already sprained wrist as the first baby started to crown.
Ronal held your legs apart, Neytiri caressed your face and neck, while Jake ran his hand down on your waist as your sobs were clearly heard through the pain "We understand, syulang, we understand, now please push as hard as you can, zola' u niprrte nga prrnen" Neytiri said calmly, guiding you through the pain to push and encourage to bring these children to life.
Hot tears rolled down your cheeks as you gave a push "ngghhhh get them out!!" Your screams of desperation were heartfelt for everyone who heard them, Neytiri's face was full of concern as you screamed "shhh just push the best you can, you want to see them right? You can't give up now that you're so close….i know it hurts, yawne, i know but you can't lose everything when you're so close, push one more time, for us, for the babies" she whispered softly as you stare at her with a tear soaked face, snort running down your nose as sweat dripped down your scalp, the water washed over to your chest giving you an effect of weightlessness, with a new kind of determination take over your body, you began to push.
The saying childbirth is the worst pain anyone can experience was really starting to become very clear to you now, you grit your teeth taking a deep breath and pushed but soon turned into a scream and then a sob, the burning sensation was too overwhelming, even taking a breath felt like a laboring act, Ronal held your hand gently in hers “shh calm down, calm down… breath, y/n, breath”
She guided your hand between your thighs, letting your fingers brush against the baby’s head, you stared at her as your expression went from pained to one of awe and longing, the fact that you were so close to meeting your babies, ignited a deep urge to keep going no matter how bad the pain was, after taking a moment to catch up, you beared down with the next contraction, eyes shut tightly, toes curled up as you screamed head bowed down, jake held your hand while you squeezed it, his other arm holding you in place, Neytiri rubbed your back soothingly.
Ronal cupped the crowning head of the baby with her hand when finally the head slipped out followed by your groan, now the time ticked, you had to push to get the shoulders out soon with the next contraction, she urged you to push again, tugging on the baby gently with the next push as your whole body trembled from the effort as the baby’s shoulders passed through the canal with the final push, Ronal and te’yul immediately took the newborn to clean up, your breaths becoming shallow while Neytiri smiled caressing your cheek “there, that’s it, you’re okay” she whispered leaning her forehead against yours.
Jake stroked your waist kissing your forehead gently “good girl, very good, one down one to go” he said softly, currently looking absolutely proud of you as he placed several kisses on your head, tears forming in his eyes “I’m so proud of you, you did so good, just a little more, sweetheart” his words were spoken from shere love and appreciation.
Neytiri was looking at you with just as much pride as jake, patting your cheek when finally a piercing cry rang through the air, grabbing all your attention, the cry was mighty enough to make your heart sore but the pain wasn’t done yet, Ronal coming back in front of you as she held you by your shoulders “a little more and it's done, push when you feel like” but exhaustion made you feel like your head was underwater, even being in the hot spring wasn’t helping that much, head rolling back on Jake’s chest, only getting out of the daze when the burning sensation came back in the nether regions, blinking back your tears as you pushed, this was relatively easier than the first and the second twin came out faster than you expected, which was more than a big relief.
In the most fastest few minutes of your life, Ronal and Neytiri held your daughters in their arms as Jake held you tired body in his, admiring the sight in front of him “You did it, sweetheart, You did it, you’re absolutely wonderful” he whispered as your ears twitched from his warm breath, your tail swishing underwater, a tired smile on your face as you stared at your newborn daughters, your own daughters and you couldn’t be more proud “go ahead, name them sweetie” he said proudly as he caressed your arm and neytiri nodded along “you should name them, paskalin”
After thinking for a few minutes, you came up with a pair of names you thought were the best “Pe’rul and Peyal” your voice strained and rough but the emotions behind it melted everyone's heart as they all agreed that those were good names “those are beautiful name, tiyawn” neytiri said as she brought peyal closer to you and jake and ronal nodded as well, ronal swam forward as well both the babies went quiet as they were laid on your chest, going silent as they felt their mother’s touch, it was a beautiful sight for all of them while te’yul cheered and howled in happiness in the background as he was officially an uncle now as Ronal now carefully bandaged Jake’s sprained wrist while you gave him a apologetic smile in return he just chuckled and pecked your forehead.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
A few weeks have passed since the day of arrival of the twins, the happiness of the clan was quadrupled as the babies were the most miraculous things they have witnessed, azure skin like Jake and Neytiri but soft ocean blue eyes and teal stripes like yours, the combination made the pair look blessed by Eywa herself, lanky and long tails like the omaticaya but slightly broader with a tuft of hair at the tail ends, seemingly they were the most beautiful babies to be seen on the land of metkayina.
If Jake and Neytiri weren’t overprotective before now it was like being smothered in their love, which was more overwhelming than anything, and boy oh boy did Neytiri took care of you after the birth, knowing damn well how down and depressed a new mother can feel after the birth, she did everything in her power to keep you happy, making necklaces, shawls, blankets, tops for you everyday, kissing your postpartum belly, all the stretch marks, massaging your back, making your favorite foods, pampering you in any way possible, she made sure to make you feel like a queen.
While Neytiri takes care of you, Jake and the kids are on the duty to take care of the twins, and eywa bless him, he’s taking that job very seriously, now father of seven, including spider, he was almost delirious at the amount of children he has, to think at one point in his life he gave up hope to ever have the joy of a family of his own and to now with two mates and seven children, oh how things have changed, for good this once.
Overjoyed was an understatement for Neteyam and the gang, two little baby sisters? You bet the protection levels are through the clouds, may the great mother help the person who even looks or breathes at the twins in a wrong way, Kiri held Peyal with the most widest grin possible, while Neteyam held Pe’rul as if she was the most precious thing on pandora and as of now she was, Lo’ak and tuk were in their thoughts as how he won’t be the only middle child and tuk was happy as she won’t be the youngest anymore, for spider, the more siblings the better.
Uncle te’yul made the first song chords for the babies as gift which you then attached it to the band of their tewng, adding a pearl as the memory of their birth to your song chord as well, right next to the bead Jake gave you which symbolized your mating with the couple, plus adding two similar pearls on the twins song chords as a symbol to the start of their journey in this new and amazing world.
The whole family huddled together. You in the middle, Jake and Neytiri on your sides as the twins laid on top of you, Lo’ak and spider beside Jake while Neteyam and Kiri were beside Neytiri, tuk was sandwiched between you and Jake but she didn’t mind, as everyone’s attention was on the newest members of the family while they slept on your chest, Neytiri caressed your cheek and jake went a step ahead, pecking your lips sweetly “we are so proud of you, txe’lan” Neytiri nodding in agreement as all of the others groaned and fake gagged at the public display of affection, tuk and Kiri just giggled, Neteyam laughing his ass off with a loud “Gross” from Lo’ak and spider while you, Jake and tiri burst out laughing, love floated in the air, it was a beautiful beginning, which you'll cherish forever.

Author’s note: This is after the war, Neteyam is alive and Ronal already had her baby. Also I may have the ages of the teen characters kind of mixed up, idk what Tsireya’s age is, so I assumed she is 16, but the reader would be between the ages of 15 or 16, I'm sorry if that’s confusing.
P.s.  Remember to stay hydrated, get enough sleep and eat a snack, treat yourselves :)

That morning you had woken up with terrible pain in your lower belly, you weren’t sure why it hurt so bad. Maybe was because you were feeling tired yestday and you had over slept. This kind of pain has never happened to you before. When you sat up, you looked down and you froze. Their was blood coming from between your legs. You reached out and touched the blood that was down your thigh now, you brought your hand up, seeing to much blood, you began to freak out. “Mother!” you yelled, now in the verge of tears.
“Mother!!” now you were crying, scared. “What is it y/n-” then she saw the blood on your hand, looking down at your thigh seeing blood between your thighs. “Oh my” she said coming closer and got on her knees next to you. “Are you hurt!?” she asked now freaking out like you were. “I don’t know, but my lower stomach really hurts” you wined, feeling the pain again.
“Tsireya!” Ronal yelled for her daughter who came in fast “what’s wrong?” she asked worried, she had your baby brother on her back wrapped around with a big cloth, keeping him close to her back. “Bring supplies and after go get Jakesully, hurry!” she said making Tsireya run to get the supplies, after she got them and gave them to Ronal, she left to go find the Jake.
Ronal was cleaning you up first, it horrified her seeing so much blood, she had seeing blood before but not this much in a while. She wanted to know what was happening, this has never happened to you. Then she thought about it, then she remembered, it was probably a curse done by Jake Sully for bringing his war to them. Was this some kind of punishment? Why did it have to happen to you.
You were already cleaned along with wearing a new loincloth and bottoms. You were still in pain, you were still in tears though. While you held your mother’s hand shaking, Sully and Neteyam came into the marui. “You called?” the oldest sully asked Ronal, when she turn to look at him, she was enraged. “Yes, I have” softly letting go of your hand and faced him. “What did you do to my daughter?” She asked. Jake looked confused “what do you mean?” he asked.
“She’s bleeding, she bleeding from her private area! What did you do?! Have you cursed my child!? Tell me!!” your mother was mad, you had never seen and heard her be that mad. Neteyam had walked over to you were you were laying and sat next to you. “How are you feeling?” he asked taking your hand and kissing your palm. “In pain” you said, relived seeing him, if you were about to die, then at least you got to see your Neteyam one final time.
Jake then connected  the dots, you were having your period, your first period at that. “Its alright Ronal, she not cursed” he said calmly towards the distressed mother “what do you mean, she’s bleeding out! She could die of blood loss” she shouted. “She won’t die, its normal for that to happen at her age” he said towards Ronal. “Normal? What do you mean normal?” she asked still furious but calm. “When it comes to human females, due to the lack of fertilizations in her eggs, her lining breaks down which causes bleeding” he explained. “Eggs? What eggs?” Ronal asked a bit confused, then Jake answered her question. “The eggs is what makes a baby, due to y/n not being pregnant its what causes the bleeding.”
Ronal now understood “those this only happen once in a life time?” she asked him, now calmer. “No, her moon cycle will happen every month for 2 or 5 days a week. To relief some pain from her lower stomach, normally pain medicine is used, but hot leaf tea can also help, along with something hot on her lower stomach” he explained. Ronal nodded “Is there any kind of symptoms?” She asked Jake. “Well, she will have moodswings, sleepiness and food cravings” Ronal turned back to look at you, who was holding Neteyam’s hand while he sat next to you. “I’ll be back, I’ll bring her something to drink” she said leaving the marui. Jake also left leaving the two teens.
“This sucks” you admitted as Neteyam smiled at you, stroking your hair away from your face. “It’s fine, its just human biology” he said leaning down to kiss your small forehead. “Neteyam?” you said catching his attention. “I’m cold” you said looking up at him, he smiled as he laid down next to you and pulled you close to him. You wrapped your small arms around his torso, feeling his warmth close to you made your cramps go away. “This is nice” you said closing your eyes feeling sleepy. “If only we could stay like this forever” he said kissing you head. Soon after you both fell asleep.

i'm sorry (happier part 2)
Tumblr media
A/N: I was not expecting the amount of positive feedback for the first part and I was even more surprised to see people asking for a part 2! It was originally created to be a one-shot but a part 2 really fit well with how the first one ended. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you again for all of the love and support! I hope you all enjoy. I also want to thank my friend, @tummymoth, they really helped me flush out and refine my rusty ass writing (also let me word vomit at them till midnight sometimes).
Pairing(s): Past Lo’ak x Omatikayan!Reader, Ao’nung x Omatikayan!Reader, Slight mentions of Lo’ak x Tsireya
Warnings: Lo'ak's POV, Swearing, Ao'nung saying something sus ONE time
More Info: My vision for this part 2 was to create a reply in Lo'ak's pov. So we'll have a look at what he experienced and thought process (not too sure if any of that made sense) but I was inspired by Joshua Bassett's song "i'm sorry" and it played constantly as I wrote this. Hopefully I was able to do right by my idea haha.

I thought about what I would say
But I’m two years too late
I can’t imagine how you’re doing these days, hmm
Sure, it wasn’t perfect back then
I’ll be first to admit
But it was better than being strangers again, oh
It had been a couple of months since my interactions with (Y/N) dwindled to terse smiles and barely audible greetings. If you asked me to point out the moment our friendship started to change, I couldn’t tell you. When did our bond start to break? When did it even start to crack? We used to talk every day about all the things we did and planned what pranks to pull on everyone, but now? Now, she barely looked in my direction. Now, she wouldn’t even give me the time of day.
I couldn’t remember when it started, but I knew that it was somehow my fault I grew distant once we arrived in Awa'atlu. I guess I was just so fascinated by the new environment and people, I didn’t even realize a rift started to form between us in the first place, much less that it started to grow.
The night before we left to find a new home, I held (Y/N) as she let out sobs filled with fear and anxiety. It broke my heart, but all I could do was hold her and let her cry until she was calm enough to tell me what was on her mind.
“I-I am afraid, what if the sky people come to find us again? I cannot lose any of you; it would break me into a million pieces,” she sobbed.
“If they find us then we will fight and we will win,” I reassured her, gently rocking her back and forth.
“You are an idiot, I was so close to losing you, to losing Kiri, Tuk, how do you think it would make me feel to lose the most important people in my life?” she sniffled. My chest ached at how broken she sounded, but the only thing I could do was assure her and offer her more words of comfort as I held her in my arms.
“I promise that I will be with you throughout the journey as will my family. We love you, and even if you do not believe it, you are a Sully. And you know what my dad always says.”
“Sullys stick together,” we chorused.
That night, I cradled her in my arms until she fell asleep.
Fuck, I completely broke my promise to her, how could I forget? Shaking my head, I tried to reason to myself, “Maybe she just needs time alone. I’m sure she’ll come running back soon once she realizes that it's no fun without me, her best friend.” I felt a small, unfamiliar feeling in the pit of my stomach. “Right?”
I’m drunk too late talking to the moon
Writing songs I can’t sing to you, ‘cause
“Bah! Stop lying, I know you (Y/N). You would have fought alongside me and defended Kiri. You are not the same girl I knew in the forest back home,” I muttered, rolling my eyes and getting up to leave. Honestly, who did she think she was fooling? The skxawng had the balls to insult Kiri, and all she did was sit back and watch. She didn’t even make a move to help until it was to help him by pulling me off. “Talk to me when you’ve come back to your senses,” I called over my shoulder, refusing to look back.
“Lo’ak! Bro—” a hand roughly grabbed my shoulder, jolting me out of my daze, “why’re you just staring off like that?” I whipped my head to see who the hell it was that was bothering me, only to be met with Neteyam.
“Did you have to grab me that hard?” I hissed before my initial anger gave way to a heavy feeling. “It's nothing, just—just lost in thought” I sighed, shrugging his hand off my shoulder.
“Right, sure, nothing.” he crouched down beside me. “Don’t think you can lie to me lil bro, you’ve been spacing out more than you usually do. I didn’t even think it was possible to be more empty-headed than you already are,” he stated.
“Wha—no I haven’t,” I tried to argue, but of course, he wasn’t convinced.
“Can you stop arguing with me for once and just tell me what’s going on with you, you skxawng?”
I scrunched my nose in distaste and inhaled sharply, “(Y/N) and I have been…  distant,” I admitted, turning to look at him. “She won’t even look at me. She either only answers me with one word or doesn’t answer at all.”
He nodded, motioning for me to continue.
“I—the last time we talked, I said things I didn’t mean. Things that just came out because I was so frustrated and… and angry. It was the heat of the moment and I—”
“What did you say skxawng, did you hurt her?” Neteyam interrupted, face twisting to show the beginnings of distaste.
“No, no—” I sputtered and raised my hands to calm him before he could go on an hour-long lecture that I absolutely was not in the mood to hear. “At least I don’t think I did… I just wanted to ask her why the hell she was helping fish lips, that’s all—”
“You didn’t answer me Lo’ak, what did you say to (Y/N)? I don’t care why you did it, I want to know what you said to elicit such a reaction from her.” By Eywa, if he would just give me a chance to get to the point—
“I—I told her that she was not the same girl that I knew back in the forest..." my ears lowered as the weight of what I said slowly sunk in. “And that she could talk to me once she came back to her senses,” I whispered, internally cringing at my harsh words..
“You fucking skxawng—”
“Can you stop calling me that? I already know, you don’t need to keep repeating it…” I scoffed, looking out into the ocean. I’m good enough at beating myself up over the hundreds of times I’ve messed up in this lifetime, I didn’t need another disappointed set of eyes on me.
My ears twitched at the deep sigh he let out. “Look, I’m sorry that I keep calling you skxawng but that is exactly what you are for saying something so hurtful to your best friend of all people. The two of you were inseparable the moment you were born. Even if you don’t want to, suck up your dumbass pride,” my ears flattened again. It wasn’t pride, I’m not prideful. It—it was me needing (Y/N) on my side. We used to always be on the same page, and when she said I was wrong for wanting to defend Kiri against those assholes, it felt like she was siding with them instead of me, and—
Okay, so maybe it was pride.
“Admit that you were wrong, and go talk to (Y/N),” Neteyam insisted as he put a reassuring arm around my shoulders, jostling me around to prove a point. “Your friendship is so much stronger and Eywa knows that a heat-of-the-moment argument isn’t going to break that. You should have more faith in her.” His gaze sharpened before he schooled his expression into something calmer. “Just talk to her, yeah?”
“...Yeah,” I mumbled, swallowing down whatever argument was trying to bubble up from my throat and prying his arm off me. “You’re right. I’ll just clear things up with her and apologize. Everything will go back to normal after that, thanks bro—for listening,” I agreed.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say They haunt me, oh
And I know that I’m to blame
So, go ahead and
Blame it on me, oh
Our lessons on the ways of the Metkayina were finished, so it was rare for the entire group to be in the same place. But every once in a while, we all finished our chores at the same time and found ourselves near the shore where we first learned to ride the ilu, and sat around a fire hours before eclipse, laughing and exchanging stories.
The rarity of these moments made me cherish them that much more, but two people continued to miss our not-so-scheduled gatherings the past two moon cycles. How was it possible that they were the only two to keep missing our hangouts? Were they together? Fish lips had better not be doing anything to (Y/N) or so hel—
“(Y/N)! Ao’nung! You guys made it!” Rotxo laughed.
“Yeah, yeah, quit shouting will you?” Ao’nung shot back as he sat down next to Rotxo, (Y/N) smiling softly as she followed.
“So, what’ve you guys been up to? We haven’t seen you in what feels like ten moon cycles.” Neteyam questioned.
“Teyam, you saw me earlier today, you literally helped me feed our ikran,” (Y/N) joked. ‘Teyam? When did she start calling him by anything other than his given name?
Ao’nung swatted her side with his stupidly wide tail and swung an arm around her shoulder with a remarkably punchable smile on his face “More like he was trying to make sure you didn’t accidentally give them your fingers for breakfast. They would’ve gotten indigestion.”
“Haha very funny Ao’nung,” she drawled, “I would’ve fed you to Tekay instead, but she would’ve gagged the moment she caught a whiff of you,” she scoffed as she quickly pushed him away by the chest.
“Wait… Do they even have a gag reflex?” Fish lips didn’t budge, he just had a dumb look of confusion on his face.
“No, but they would defy the laws of biology to gag just for you,” she quipped, sticking out her tongue and moving to push him away again, but the skxawng had the nerve to pull her into a headlock.
“Oh, yuey, the ikran won’t be the only ones gagging on me tonight,” he argued with a smirk.
Did I want to punch that smirk off his face? Did I want to gag? Both? Before I could make a decision, (Y/N) grimaced, pushing him away again and smacking him upside the head.
“That’s actually repulsive. You’re disgusting.”
“Dude, keep it in your pants, her family is right there,” Rotxo laughed, doubled over as he struggled to catch his breath.
“Yeah, we’re right here,” I interjected with a smile—wanting to join in on the jokes that were being thrown around—but it was hard to keep my face from falling when I saw (Y/N)’s bright expression falter.
“Anyway, what were you guys talking about before Ao’nung and I arrived?” she asked in a too-bright tone of voice she only used when she desperately wanted to change the subject. As if everyone came to an unspoken agreement to forget about the conversation before, one by one they all started talking about who they thought would win in a fight—Toruk Makto, or our Olo’eyktan, Tonowari.
The sound of laughter and excited chatter faded as I replayed the previous conversation in my head. When did they start joking around like that? Why the hell did fish lips call her yuey like it was the most natural thing in the world? How come she smiled so easily with him but faltered when she sees me? She was probably smiling with him right now—
I looked over at her, a pit in my stomach already forming at the idea of her smiling at him, but she looked so distant, so withdrawn from everything around her. Before I could even blink, she put a delicate hand on Ao’nung’s arm to grab his attention and mumbled something in a hushed tone. After a few beats of silent conversation, Ao’nung nodded and gave her a look of understanding.
Why did he look at her like that? How much time did they spend together to be able to understand each other with just a look? How much time have I wasted breaking my promise to her while she grew closer to someone else?
Standing up, I made up my mind that I would talk to her and clear up any miscommunication. There was no way in hell I was about to let fish lips ruin our childhood friendship. Before I could even get close, Neteyam pulled me aside.
“Bro, why’re you glaring at everyone?” he asked with concern written all over his face.
“Glaring?” I tilted my head in confusion. “I’m not glaring, this is just my face.”
“No, no.” He shook his head. “I’m your brother, I know your face. Whatever look you’ve been throwing at Ao’nung and (Y/N)? You may as well have been throwing knives at them.”
Behind Neteyam, I could see (Y/N) get up to bid everyone good night and slowly walk in our direction. This was my chance, I just needed this overbearing idiot to leave me alone.
“Whatever look you think I’m giving to them, you’re wrong,” I denied. “Can you not act like this right now?” My tail flicked side to side impatiently, an obvious twinge of annoyance clear in my tone. I licked my lips nervously as I could hear footsteps coming closer. Leaning slightly to the side, I looked behind Neteyam to see (Y/N) and—
Ao’nung? What? Why is he there?
“Good night,” (Y/N) muttered, not sparing us a glance as she walked past. I followed her every move and—as if everything slowed down—my eyes narrowed as they found Ao’nung’s hand placed on her lower back, leading her gently in the direction of the marui.
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Though it's far too late
“I did it! Did you see that Reya?” I shouted—out of breath—as I showed off the shell Tsireya threw.
“Yes, yes you did it!” She exclaimed, excitedly wrapping her hand around mine. For someone who spent so much time underwater, her hand radiated so much warmth. So easy to hold. My heart swelled with pride as she continued to compliment me. “You’ve improved so much!”
“Yeah? Well, I had a great teacher,” I joked, nudging her softly with my shoulder. It wasn’t just her hands that were warm either, she just seemed to radiate it.
“Oh stop, you flatter me too much,” she denied, fidgeting with her hair. Was that a blush on her face? “C’mon, why don’t we catch up with the others? Private lessons are officially done for the day,” she announced as she led me to shore. Oh Eywa, she looked so pretty like this, with her hair flowing down her back and the way her eyes cast down when she became flustered. And her smile, it was a smile that could knock the air out of my lungs.
While we walked onto shore, we joked around and laughed with each other, talking about anything and everything. The ease of each reply and joke came as smoothly as gliding through the water on an ilu—as easy as breathing. Laughing at another one of Tsireya’s jokes, my eyes scanned the village as we approached it. Families were winding down for the day as they cooked dinner, although I didn’t see mine anywhere nearby aside from Kiri.
My smile slowly dropped when I was able to make out Kiri looking frantically around as if she was searching for someone. Tsireya and I made our way to her, worry filling the pit in my stomach. As we got closer, I could see Ao’nung climb down one of the roots of the Mangrove trees and make a beeline toward her. My eyes stayed on both of them, making sure that fish lips didn’t do anything to Kiri.
Ears twitching I was able to make out the words, “(Y/N)? Did you find her? ” from Kiri as they were carried on the wind toward us.
“Yeah I did, I was able to get her to eat, but she’s not looking too good,” Ao’nung replied with concern lacing his voice.
Brows furrowing, I pulled Ao’nung by the shoulder. “What do you mean she’s not looking good? Where is she? What did you do?”
“What the hell do you mean? I didn’t do shit, freak.” I rolled my eyes at the insult. He couldn’t use that thick head of his to think of anything else to call me? From the pained look on his face, I could tell that my grip on his shoulder had too much pressure. Good. Served him right.
Before Ao’nung and I could continue our argument Kiri groaned, “Will the both of you skxawng shut up! I’ll go talk to her.” My eyes followed her retreating form as she went to talk to (Y/N)—tail lashing back and forth in agitation all the while—before turning back to Ao’nung.
Who the hell did he think he was? I’d beat his skxawng ass if he hurt (Y/N) in any way. He had no right to look so damn worried. They weren’t even close. What even happened? How long had she been missing for Kiri to go to fish lips of all people for help? Should I follow Kiri? Why didn’t (Y/N) come to me? She always came to me, and if she came to me now, I absolutely would have listened. Why—
“Lo’ak? Hey, are you okay? Lo’ak?” a hand softly placed itself on my arm. Closing my eyes in frustration, I sighed.
“Yeah, perfectly fine.”
Damn it, was that when it started? How idiotic and blind have I been that I didn’t even notice that her trust in me started to slip and die when it was right in front of me? Why didn’t I go to her and make sure she was okay? I should’ve punched that idiot’s lights out—
“Ao’nung! Stop pulling me you skxawng, you’re walking too fast, slow down!” a hushed voice chastised.
“C’mon yuey, we only have about an hour before eclipse, we have to hurry!” His voice grated against my ears as he responded.
“That’s plenty of time!” (Y/N) insisted. I could hear the laughter bubbling up in her voice as she chased after him. “Please Ao’nung slow down, I can’t keep up.”
“It can’t be helped, you’re so short—” a whack could be heard. “Ow!”
“I’m as tall as Tsireya, you giant!”
“Both you and my sister are short—Ow! Alright, just because you did that, you leave me no choice,” Ao’nung said, throwing (Y/N) over his shoulder with a laugh.
The bickering voices got closer, and my eyes narrowed at the way he held her. My breath hitched as he whispered something in her ear that made her ears perk up and her eyes widen. What the hell was he saying to her? Before I could spring up from my spot, Ao’nung tossed (Y/N) in the water, her yelp quickly interrupted by the sound of her body hitting the water.
I stayed in my spot as shock zipped through my body. Letting out a breath I didn’t know I held, her head popped out of the water, a playful glare on her face.
“I told you, you left me no choice,” he stated, guffawing at her expression.
“Oh yeah?” she groused, spitting out seawater as she wrung out her hair. “Well fuck you too. Help me out of here?”
“Only if you say the magic word,” he taunted, crossing his arms with a smirk. “Otherwise, I’m afraid my hands are tied.”
“Please, oh great son of our Olo’eyktan, help me out of the ocean,” she beckoned dramatically, sarcasm dripping from every word while she rolled her eyes. “It’s about time you recognized my proud lineage, forest dweller,”  he said as his chest puffed out with a hand reaching towards (Y/N). And there was that stupid smile on his face.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes, a mischievous smile spreading across her face as she reached for his hand, making sure to tug with enough force to unceremoniously yank him into the water.
“So much for the son of a great warrior! Your instincts are shit!”
“My instincts are dull you say?” he questioned as his head popped up next to her. “We’ll see about that!”
“Wha—AHHH—'' she wheezed. “No, please Ao’nung stop! That tickles!” Her arms flailed wildly in an attempt to free herself from his grasp.
What the fuck.
My ears flattened at an angle as I tried to process the scene unfolding before me. When did she start laughing with him? That should’ve been me she was laughing with. Not him, not the skxawng who had been nothing but rude to us since we arrived. What… what was I even saying—Fuck I didn’t know anymore. Why did I feel like this every time I saw them together… laughing and making jokes like we used to?
And it was me, it wasn’t you
It’s cliche, but it’s true
I wasn’t thinking how I usually do, oh
And is your momma doing well?
Or does she still hate me?
But it was hard to watch me put you through hell
I’m drunk, too late, talking to the moon, ooh
Writing songs I can’t sing to you, ‘cause
Two weeks had passed since I started noticing the changes in (Y/N)’s relationship—friendship?—with Ao’nung. It was like every time I blinked, I could see her laughing loudly as Ao’nung tickled her with a triumphant smile on his stupid face. Since that day, I had been trying to find a way to talk to (Y/N), but she was never alone. She was always with him and when she wasn’t, she disappeared and I couldn’t find her no matter how hard I looked.
Now here I was, wandering around trying to look for her as I rehearsed what I wanted to tell her.
Where could she be? Dinner was in an hour and she wasn’t anywhere near our marui. I had to find her soon so there would be enough time for us to talk. I had to tell her that I miss her, that I was sorry for being so dumb, that I shouldn’t have let my pride blind me, and that I didn’t mean any of the things I said.
There was only one place I hadn’t looked yet… hopefully she was there.
As I was getting closer to the root Kiri stalked to, I could see two silhouettes beside each other. An all-too-familiar feeling bloomed in my chest once I registered that she was there with him.
Her melodic laughter made my steps falter. I clenched my fists tightly, contemplating if I should go over there and pull her away, force her to talk to me, to listen. But I couldn’t, I couldn’t do that to her, not when she looked so content, so happy.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say
They haunt me, oh
I know that I’m to blame
So, go ahead and
Blame it on me, oh
“Lo’ak? You said you were going to look for (Y/N) and never came back. She’s already in the marui helping mom cook,” Kiri stated, a twinge of annoyance lacing her voice. “Hey, are you listening?” She shook my arm slightly, making me jump out of my stupor.
“Yeah, sorry, you said dinner was ready?” I asked as I stared off.
The sand beside me crunched softly as Kiri made a move to sit beside me. “No, I said that (Y/N) is with mom helping her cook. Where is your head at?” she asked as she tilted her head to try and meet my gaze. “Are you alright?” The annoyance in her voice shifted to concern.
“I’m fine, yep—just… fine,” I brushed her off, hoisting myself up to head towards Mom and Dad for dinner before Kiri yanked me back down.
“Lo’ak, don’t pretend you’re okay when you’re not. Tell me what’s going on,” she urged. “Maybe I can help you with whatever it is that’s occupied your mind lately.”
I inhaled sharply, debating if I should tell her what had been muddying my mind, the reason why I had been so spaced out, why I had been glaring daggers at fish lips each time I saw his stupid face next to (Y/N)—how confused I was.
“Stop with the thinking skxawng, you might hurt yourself,” she admonished. “Just tell me. It’s not like I can’t handle it.”
Huffing, I rolled my eyes and turned away from her to look at the sea. I hadn't even said anything yet and Kiri was already making me feel idiotic. How was I supposed to tell her what's been going on like this? Maybe if I kept quiet for long enough, she would get tired of waiting for me to start talking and go on to eat dinner without me.
A couple of minutes of silence passed.
I could still feel her staring at me.
“I’ve—I’ve been conflicted,” I started, tongue feeling heavy in my mouth as I continued to stare at the shoreline. “I don’t know what I’m feeling.”
“What do you mean?” Kiri nudged my shoulder with hers. “Elaborate a little more, I can’t help if you don’t tell me the reason why you’re feeling confused.”
“...Whenever I see (Y/N) with Ao’nung, it’s as if I can feel my heart aching,” I said, motioning toward my chest to prove my point. “There’s always a… a surge of anger that rushes through me. All I want to do is pull her away from him so then everything can go back to the way things used to be—for us to be okay.”
“Lo’ak…” If I was looking at her, I’d probably see Kiri tilt her head with sympathy. But sympathy isn’t what I needed right now.
“I want her to look at me and smile, to laugh with me, hug me—but now, whenever I get close to her, she’s next to him, laughing with him, cracking the jokes we would make to each other… I just—” I rubbed at my face in frustration. It wasn’t as if the words were hard to come by—I had spent so much time bottling them up that it was hard to stop talking. No, I just hated the fact that I felt this way in the first place. “I don’t understand why seeing them makes me feel like my heart is about to explode—why it makes me want to scream. It hurts.”
“Lo’ak” she put a hand on my shoulder. “Are you—are you in love with (Y/N)?”
Love?
I sputtered in surprise and whipped my head toward Kiri to see if she was joking or not. What kind of a sick question was that? I wasn’t in the mood for any games.
“What? No, she’s like my… sister?”
She rolled her eyes and sighed. “If you’re not, then why does seeing her with Ao’nung hurt you so much? Why do you care as much as you do?”
“I shouldn’t!” I wrenched my shoulder away from her hand and stood up. The need to move around and do something—anything—was too much. There was too much energy thrumming right beneath my skin to sit still anymore.
“That’s the problem! After everything I said to her, done to her? I don’t have the right to say I’m in love with her. She’s my childhood friend, Kiri. That’s all our relationship has ever been… I just—” I paused in thought and tried to calm down. “I didn’t realize seeing her have so much fun with someone else would make me feel so, so hollow—”
“Let me ask you something, you have to promise to be completely honest with me, okay?”
I nodded, not even looking in her direction.
“When (Y/N) tried to pull you off from Ao’nung that one fight months ago, what did you feel? Angry? Betrayed? Jealous?”
Jealous? Did she really think I was sulking for months because of such a petty feeling? I’m not a jealous person. I never have been.
“Seeing her jump in to get me off him made me feel like she was siding with him and telling me that I was wrong. Her actions were clear as day to me, Kiri.” I started to pace around. “She was protecting him—caring for him when she should’ve been next to me, helping and supporting me. When she did that—I felt like the only person that’s ever been on my side—” I croaked and turned my head to look at Kiri as tears stung my eyes “The only person who didn’t see everything I did as some sort of disappointment or failure, abandoned me and chose someone else.”
“...”
“I know that I could’ve approached her a different way but how could I when I felt so broken?” I inhaled sharply, eyebrows furrowed. “ It’s all fish lips’ fault. If he wasn’t such an asshole, none of this would have happened, and (Y/N) and I would still be the same, she would still be by my side—supporting me, loving me.”
“Why do you keep blaming it on Ao’nung?”
“Because it is his fault that things have turned out the way it has.” I threw my hands up, exasperated. What wasn’t Kiri getting? “He’s getting in between my relationship—er—friendship with (Y/N)! If he wasn’t there I would be able to talk to her and tell her I’m sorry, but she’s always with him—”
“Stop! Are you hearing yourself?” She nudged at my foot to interrupt and scoffed. “You’re unbelievable, you know that? (Y/N) told me what you said to her, how ‘she wasn’t the same girl’ you knew back in the forest. Do you know what happened when you told her that? Do you know how much pain she was in?”
Pain? I snorted, turning towards Kiri. “Now I know what you’re saying is bullshit. You know how (Y/N) is—if she really was pissed at me she would’ve come to me instead of running to someone else.”
“She wasn’t pissed. She cried because of you, Lo’ak. Because of what you said.” I stopped dead in my tracks to look at her. Kiri's eyes didn’t waver. Another heavy feeling settled on my chest and clawed its way up my throat. If you had asked me what it was, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you. Was I sad? Guilty? Angry? Was I jealous like she said?
I settled on anger.
“If you’re saying what I think you’re saying—”
“The person that found her that night, the one who comforted her? That was Ao’nung. He held her in his arms as she sobbed when I found them.” She stood up too, forcing me to stop pacing.
“The last thing I want to hear about right now is him, Kiri. What the fuck—”
“Did you ever think about why she’s so comfortable with him now? Why they’re so close? While you ignored her for weeks, he made sure she was okay—made sure she ate every day. He didn’t leave her side until she finished,” Kiri pointed out, and before I could even think to open my mouth to remind her how shitty he was to her especially, she cut me off. “Yes, he was an asshole at the beginning, and yes he has a screwed-up way to show he cares, but he stepped up when you fucked up.” She poked my chest with a glare before she continued.
“Oh, so I’m a fuck-up now?” I asked wryly.
“You can’t put all the blame on someone that took care of your best friend. Stop being so blinded by your pride and hatred and see that you’re the real reason why your relationship with (Y/N) isn’t the same as it used to be.”
My heart sank a little more as I scrambled for something to say. “How could you say that—”
“No, you do not get to interrupt me right now, Lo’ak.” Her eyes flashed with something closer to anger than annoyance. When was the last time I saw her angry? “Listen and listen well. When we couldn’t find (Y/N) and we were looking for her everywhere—he was the one that found her spot, the one she isolated herself to so she could cry alone, and no one would see how much pain she was in. And what were you doing in the meantime?”
My ears flattened at her rising tone, and I was finally beginning to understand the weight stuck in my throat and chest. Not anger, not even jealousy.
“You were out there with Tsireya, stuck in your own little world.”
It was my fault.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy that you found her but you can’t have both of them. You can’t be that selfish. From (Y/N)’s perspective, you’ve already chosen the one you want.”
“It’s not like I’ve actually chosen anyone yet,” I tried to interject, but all the fight had left my voice as Kiri’s words dug into my skin and sunk in.
“Don’t you dare play with either of their feelings. (Y/N) held so much love for you in her heart, she allowed herself to break to the point of no repair because she didn’t want to show you how much it hurt her to see you at your happiest with Tsireya.” She paused before continuing, her voice losing its edge. “Let her move on, brother. And if it’s Ao’nung that makes her light up the way she used to, then you suck it up and let him. He was there when your pride wouldn’t even let you apologize or even look in her direction. Actually think about how she feels for once.”
I hated the fact that there wasn’t anything I could say to prove her wrong.
“It’s all I’ve been thinking about nowadays,” I muttered.
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry, hmm
I’m sorry
Though it’s far too late
“I thought I was already doing that,” a faint voice huffed in annoyance. Turning the corner, I saw Ao’nung and (Y/N) standing on the beach together— far too close for my liking.
“You were, but you got sloppy. Here, you have to move your hips like this,” he said as he corrected her posture. My ears flattened against my head as he put a hand on her hip and gently directed her movement.
Why did he look so gentle with her?
“Ao’nung,” (Y/N)’s voice rang out, clear as crystal despite her uncertain tone. “Are you sure you should be teaching me this? This is a traditional Metkayina dance, right? I’m…” she hesitated, her voice becoming smaller. “I’m not Metkayina—”
“Yet.” He interrupted, holding her face in his hands. “You are not Metkayina yet. Once you become one of us, you will have to learn the dance to celebrate the return of our spirit brothers and sisters, so why not learn that now?” I hated how reassuring his voice was. The thought of how either of their eyes looked as they held contact made my stomach turn.
“Yeah… you’re right,” she mumbled with an unsure look on her face.
“Woah, hey pretty girl, look at me,” he insisted, laying his hands on her shoulders and bending his neck so they were at eye level. “I’m serious when I say you will become Metkayina one day, so don’t worry yourself over it right now. Okay?” Ao’nung tilted his head to the side, an unbelievably soft expression on his face. “You have me here to help you.”
“Alright…” (Y/N) mumbled, not convinced.
“If you don’t get rid of that look on your face I’ll throw you into the water,” he said as his face shifted from sincerity to something mischievous. “Or worse… I’ll tickle you,” he threatened.
“You better not Ao’nung, or I swear to the Great Mother herself I will hu—AHH—get away, you skxawng!'' She laughed as she tried to run away, but Ao’nung grabbed hold of her waist and pulled her into his arms. And despite her words of protest, it was clear as day that she was leaning into him while they scuffled on the sand.
“No!” she shrieked with glee. “You can’t make me go in there again!”
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that, forest dweller!”
A thought occurred. Should I go up to them? We never got the chance to talk, after all. I took a few steps in their direction before freezing. When was the last time I heard her laugh like that? She had the biggest smile on her face, and the one who made that happen wasn’t me—it was him.
And if you ever hear this
I hope you know that
I’m not proud of who I’ve been, ooh
And if I see you again
I hope you know that
I wish you nothing but the best
And my biggest regret
The afternoon was quiet, relative silence only interrupted by the crashing of waves. Without much to do, I just sat in our marui and lazed around with Tuk until a horn blew.
“The tulkun have returned! Everybody—our brothers and sisters have returned!” Tsireya’s voice rang out, and when I poked my head out to see what the fuss was about, I saw the megawatt smile on her face, as she swam by on her ilu.
The village came to life as everyone mounted either ilu or canoe to make their way to the tulkun. From here, I could see little more than a large group of dark shapes making their way through the water. Payakan himself was dauntingly huge, but to see a whole pod of them show up like this? It was spectacular. I watched the commotion unfold from one of the walkways, lost in thought before I felt water splashing at my feet.
“Come on Lo’ak! Don’t just stand there, let’s go see the tulkun together!” Tsireya urged, still smiling. Shaken out of my stupor, I grinned widely—diving into the water and clambering onto her ilu. lu may be lithe animals, but I could still feel sinuous muscle under velvety skin as it made adjustments in the water to keep balance.
“I’ll come, but only if you’re offering a ride,” I joked, gently holding her waist and playfully leaning onto her. The cool water around us made her skin feel that much warmer. It was nice.
Before I could see her reaction—I would’ve bet anything at that moment that her cheeks had become flushed—we began to quickly make our way toward the rest of the clan and the giant tulkun.
The air around me vibrated with the excitement and happiness of loved ones returning, and Tsireya was no exception—the speed of the ilu gave away her eagerness to be with her spirit sister. As we leaped into and out of the water, Tsireya’s laughter was carried by the wind and reached my ears. That, and the answering whoops and bellows of Metkayina and tulkun alike, was almost contagious enough to get carried away by the energy surrounding us.
“My spirit sister is down there,” she said as she dismounted, sliding off her ilu and into the water. “Wait here, yeah?” she smiled at me before diving down.
I was more than happy to watch the Na’vi around me. Looking around, I was in awe of the sheer amount of tulkun gathered in one area, and how each Metkayina was able to identify their spirit sisters or brothers so easily. Looking down into the shifting waters, I saw Tsireya catching up with her spirit sister, waving her hands around and swimming through the water alongside her.
All around, I could hear people telling stories and the deep, booming calls of the tulkun as they responded with tales of their own. New parents were showing their babies and calves, and as my eyes scanned the horizon, I could see small children holding onto the tulkun’s fins as they were lifted to the glittering ocean surface.
Not too far away, I heard the sound of a body hitting the water and the sound of grating, but familiar laughter along with an indignant (Y/N) sputtering.
“Ao’nung, what the fu—”
“Hey, hey, relax! It’s just some water. There are children here, yuey,” Ao’nung chided with a shit-eating grin on his face.
“The parents of those children are going to have to explain what it means to return to Eywa once I’m through with you,” she retorted, treading water and becoming even more unamused when he raised his hands in mock surrender.
“Woah there pretty girl, you’re talking to the son of the mightiest warrior in all of Pandora—”
“That’s funny, I don’t see Neteyam here,” she interjected, pretending to search the waters around them before turning back to Ao’nung and tilting her head, “do you?”
“Just because you said that you can have fun finding your own way back to shore,” he said as he turned his ilu around.
“Oh, c’mon Ao’nung, don’t be like that,” she rolled her eyes and reached a hand towards him. “You’d really leave me here to fend for myself?”
He turned and wagged a disapproving finger at her, “I’ll consider forgiving you if you say word-for-word that I’m the son of the mightiest warrior in all of Pandora. I can’t have you slandering my father’s name, yuey.” She groaned and leaned back into the water.
“You couldn’t pay me enough to say that load of bull—”
“Nope!” he didn’t give her a chance to defile the ears of any nearby children and crossed his arms. “I wanna hear you say it.”
“...”
“I’m still waiting.”
With a sardonic smile, she finally caved. “Why don’t I do you one better? You’re the mightiest warrior to exist since the time of the First Songs,” she declared, sarcasm dripping from every word as she slapped at the water for emphasis.
“That’s what I thought, was that so hard?” Even if I wasn’t able to see them, I still would have been able to hear the stupidly wide smile that made its way across his face.
“Don’t be such a big baby and let me meet your spirit brother!”
“Just because he’s here to visit today, I’ll let that one slide for now.” Ao’nung rolled his eyes, dismounting his ilu to join (Y/N). “Now hold on tight and hold your breath like how we practiced.”
We? Who the fuck was we? Why was he allowing her to meet his spirit brother? Why were they looking at each other like that?
I watched both of their silhouettes submerge and breathed deeply, forcing my thundering heart to calm as I slowly sank my head into the water. At first, all I could see were blobs floating around in the water, but once my eyes adjusted, I could see the fluid movement of Ao’nung talking to his spirit brother. Eyebrows furrowing, I swam a little closer and hoped that I would be able to see what was being signed. With each movement made, it was clear that Ao’nung was translating the clicks and bellows of the tulkun to (Y/N), and whatever was being said made her smile widen by the second.
I couldn’t watch anymore as my chest burned from the lack of air and I resurfaced to catch my breath. For once, I was thankful for the lack of lung capacity I had. I climbed back onto Tsireya’s ilu. Seeing as she wasn’t back yet, I sat back and leaned on its neck to face the sky.
Did she always glow like that when she smiled? Whenever she was with him—she always looked so happy, so vibrant. Would she have looked like that with me by her side if I didn’t push her away? If I was there for her like I had promised? I wanted to tell her sorry—that I was sorry for taking our friendship for granted, for making her go through it alone. I wish that it didn’t take seeing her smile and laugh with someone else to make me realize how I felt.
I willed my tears to go away.
Is this how she felt? Seeing me with Tsireya? Great Mother… I was truly horrible, wasn’t I? I wished things turned out differently. Maybe in another universe, I did talk to her—realized sooner, made her happier—but now? Right now, my heart was torn in two, watching as someone else picked up the pieces of the heart I crushed. No amount of words could fix what we used to have, and even though I wanted to whisk her away, tell her I love her—that I see her—that seeing her with him made my skin crawl, I knew I couldn’t. I was no longer worthy to be part of her life, because of me and my actions alone.
I had become nothing but a stranger.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say
They haunt me
I know that I’m to blame
So go ahead and
Blame it on me, ooh
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Hmm, I’m sorry
Oh-oh-oh-oh, I’m sorry

If there was one thing about the dream walker, it was that he was a complete marvel to the entire Omaticaya clan. Even his scent was foreign--like metal and strange chemicals. Your people were both fascinated and disgusted by him.
You were the only daughter of your family, so there was a heavy expectation on you to find a mate. Before doing so, however, you would train to become a healer. Under the tsahik's guide, you studied the will of the Great Mother and the way of the forest. You were regarded as so intelligent and skilled that it wasn't surprising when you were chosen to train Jake Suli instead of your best friend, Neytiri.
It wasn't like she wanted the job anyway.
At first, you acted with complete bias. You knew the Sky People to be destructive and ignorant of any culture but their own. Why would this alien be any different? You hardly felt guilty to admit that it was amusing to watch him stumble and lose his balance in the trees. But over time, you felt the strings in your heart play a different way.
His hands and feet grew tougher, his legs and arms became stronger, and his eyes opened to more than just the physical elements of your world. Jake Suli was learning to see.
As he learned more of you culture, you began to learn more of his. While he struggled to learn the Navi alphabet and pronunciations, he also managed to teach you more English than you had previously learned. "This is right up my alley," he said the first day you showed him a bow and arrow.
You cocked your head. "What does that one mean?"
Jake, who thought your cluelessness was adorable, chuckled. "It means, uh," he laughed at himself. He must've sounded stupid compared to your wise words. "It means I'm good at this sort of stuff."
There were other moments where the English language was unnecessarily confusing. "If it is pronounced like 'kernel'," you pondered to yourself. English was even more illegible when it was in Jake's messy handwriting. "Then why is it spelled with an 'l'?"
He had been teaching you the names of the humans who worked back at the RDA. You knew Grace Augustine well, you thought Norm was a funny name for a person, and you refused to accept that the word 'colonel' was pronounced so strangely. Jake deeply chuckled, "I'm not sure why, honey."
You also misunderstood his seemingly unnoticeable pet names for you. Honey, as you had learned, was a sweet food for humans back on Earth; you thought it strange that Jake would call you it, although you never complained...
──
There were very few days where you were not instructed to train Jake. Instead, he would follow you through your training to be a healer. He would often watch as you read the many scriptures written throughout the years, your fingers delicately tracing the writing. Sometimes, you would read it out loud to him and his ears would gently twitch at the sound of your voice.
It was winter in Pandora, which hardly seemed any different from the other seasons to Jake. The sun was still warm on his skin, the plant-life still flourished. You were already studying in your tent in the morning, wondering why Jake had still not arrived.
Mo'at, who had come to recognize Jake's admiration for you (and your admiration for him), examined you as you completed your small, morning tasks. "Where is Jake?" You asked politely, searching for him. "I have not see him yet."
You didn't see her slightly smirk. She knew what it was like for someone to anxiously await their lover, even though you would never call him that. "It is early in the morning, child," Mo'at noted. She watched your shoulders slump as an idea popped into her mind. "Wait for him, he will arrive soon."
For what felt like hours, you continued to wait for the dream walker. Mo'at was amused at your impatient behavior, how you'd frantically stand up every few minutes and check outside to see if he was there.
"It is very rude to keep someone waiting," you said to Mo'at as you sliced through a handful of herbs and leaves.
Mo'at smirked again behind her book. "Oh, yes, very rude."
Finally, Jake's figure appeared with the morning sun behind him. He had a childish smile, the braids in his hair completely disheveled, and he was holding a small basket from when you'd taught him to weave. He cleared his throat, "Tsahik, (y/n), oel ngati kameie."
You and Mo'at collectively greeted him back. Jake took a seat across from you, setting the basket down next to him. "What're you working on today?"
You ignored his curiosity and began to harshly slice the leaves, leaving small marks on the wooden cutting board. "You took a very long time," You didn't look at him, but if you had, you would've been met with wide, fascinated eyes. "Where were you?"
Jake chuckled and pulled the cutting board away from you, your knife nearly coming down to meet his thumb. You looked at him furiously with wide eyes, but he only warmly smiled. He replaced the board with the basket. "I figured you're always teaching me about this," he motioned to the forest around him. "Why can't I teach you something about my home?"
You were intrigued but refused to show it. "Your home?"
"Yeah," he smiled. Jake enjoyed seeing you try to hide your excitement. "Here," he opened the basket and pulled out several pieces of red paper and a small canister of paint with a brush. "In my home, we have something called Valentine's Day."
You repeated the word silently to see how it felt coming off of your lips.
"It's a little holiday, nothing crazy." Jake handed you a piece of paper. You cautiously watched him fold his piece in half, unsure of whatever he could be doing. "It's supposed to be, you know...about love and whatever."
You always found it enjoyable how Jake could never explain something very well. He often stumbled over his words, like the thought was in his head but came out his mouth in a different way. "Fold yours like mine." You did so and pressed the paper so there was a crease down the middle. "Now, watch what I'm drawing."
He took the brush and dipped it into the paint canister, gently tapping it against the sides so any excess dripped off the bristles. He swung the brush over the paper with a slick curve. Jake was surprisingly smooth with the brush. "Your turn."
Jake handed you the brush. You mimicked him, dipping it into the paint and tapping off any loose drops. You tried to copy the shape he had painted onto his paper, except your lines were slightly more jagged. "Good!" He smiled, a hint of pride in his voice. "Then we take this," he grabbed a small blade from the basket. "And follow the shape."
He retraced the shape on his paper with the blade so it sliced the paper clean. He then unfolded his paper. "And you have a heart."
You cocked your eyebrow and eagerly grabbed the blade from his hand, cutting over your shape and removing the remnants of the paper. "This is a heart? It looks nothing like one."
"Well, it's not like the heart in here," his fingers gently touched your chest where your heart sat. He laughed, "It's different, I know. I guess this type of heart is prettier."
You looked at your paper heart inquisitively. You did like how simple it was...you would even say it was cute. "What is the point of this?"
Jake smacked his lips, "Uh, well..." He was at a loss. "I guess there's no real point to it. It's just supposed to be for love."
"What do you do with it?"
"Well, you can do almost anything with it. Throw it in the garbage if you really wanted to," he looked down at his paper heart, tracing the soft edges with his thumb and smoothing out the crease that ran down the middle of the paper. "I think you're supposed to give it to someone."
"Why?"
Jake shrugged, gently smiling at how you already began to fold another piece of paper and reach for the paintbrush. "To show love." You started to draw out the shape of the heart again on half of you paper before you noticed Jake holding his heart out to you.
The corners of your lips softly grew upwards, a pink hue falling on your cheeks.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐢... first sealed their Tsaheylu, they had thought only of each other in that moment, not knowing that it would result in Eywa blessing them with their very first child. Netzari was a healthy and strong infant; with bright golden eyes that reminded them of the sun, which were always eagerly following whatever happened around her as she'd move around in her crib or against Jake’s chest when she wanted to be part of what they were doing. She could not sit still, and if she had to, she would fuss and let them know that she wasn’t amused by being excluded.
It was clear from her very first months that she would grow up to be a fiery child, with a strong and big heart and a clear will like her mother, and an unwavering sense of resilience, determination and compassion coursing through her veins like her father. Therefore, amongst the Sullys, Netzari gained the nickname Nì’awvem; to pay homage to that fire in her belly that kept her heart warm and her blood pumping. From days spent in a carrier on her mother's back as the woman was out on hunts, to following her father around wherever he went as soon as she could walk, she developed a strong sense of belonging within their clan. She loved running through the forest, exploring the flora around her, greeting the animals and visiting the Spirit Tree now and then just as much as she loved to hunt, gather, craft stuff and give back to her people. Just because her family was important, did not mean she could slack off, and if she would forget, her parents would remind her.
The eldest Sully had always looked up to her mother for being such a skilled huntress and warrior and was in awe of her father each time he'd put her to bed with stories of his days as Toruk Makto. Her sun-goldened eyes would widen in amazement as he told her of soaring through the sky on its back after just having made his Tsaheylu with the mighty animal, and Neytiri would stop her work on making her daughter's songcord to watch with the warmest grin on her face at seeing two.
The first toy she had been given hadn’t been an Ikran or a Leonopteryx, like all the other children of their clan. No, instead, Netzari had a tiny handwoven bow attached around her torso all day. Neytiri would often catch the little four-year-old staring up at her in awe and in return, Neytiri’s eyes would soften and a giant toothy smile would appear on her face as she placed a loving hand on her daughter’s loose locks. Her girl... her beautiful and mighty girl. Then she’d look up at her mother, and this time Jake would swoon, for the two shared a fierce resemblance when it came to their smiles and the love in their eyes.
In those moments, as Neytiri watched their young child wobble through the forest with her tiny bow in her hands, she promised herself over and over again that if the day came, though she prayed to Eywa that it wouldn't come soon, she would give her father’s bow to her daughter, just like how it had been passed down to her. However, this she kept to herself, but Jake could see it in her eyes nonetheless. When Neytiri loved, she loved hard and with every fibre of her being. Jake and Netzari had softened the losses of those that had so harshly been ripped from her grasp, but the scars and the pain never left. Although she hated to think of it too often, it served as a good reminder to always protect what was dear to her.
As soon as signs showed that Eywa had blessed the pair with another child, the family of three was over the moon. Neteyam, was his name. And just like her parents had expected, Netzari had stepped up to take care of her little brother in her own adorable way. She’d sit by him for hours as he babbled, and she’d watch him fast asleep with her bow in her arms; keen on shying away any predator. Still, there was one thing that would never fail to send her into a downward cycle of confusing thoughts. Even as a young child, she realised that she was different from her brother each time his tiny hand would reach out for her. Her hands and her feet were different, just like her father's, whereas Neteyam's looked like those of other Na'vi, like her mother. Not able to properly put her thoughts into question, the young child merely pushed them to the back of her mind. But when she grew older and others started to take notice of it too, it resurfaced and slapped her in the face like a cold rainstorm pelting against the leaves of the rainforest.
Years passed again and more Sully kids followed, making the weight of being the responsible eldest sibling push down on her. She loved them all, with all her might. Their little family was her sacred place, for their family was their fortress as their father would remind them time and time again. She'd play for hours on end with Neteyam, catch fish with him or teach him how to track animals. She'd pull Lo'ak out of trouble and help him release his energy by finding fun ways to tire him out; holding little races and climbing the tallest trees, for example. And during days when he felt a little lost just like she often would, she let him tag along wherever she went. She'd spend hours with Kiri being taught by their grandmother, their Tsahìk, and they could sit in silence for hours, on the ground, each doing their own thing, to take in all the nature around them. And when years later Tuktirey was born, Netzari was over the moon all over again. The tiny bundle of purity happily cooing in her crib strengthened their family once more. Still, there was one thing they all had in common; each Sully child looked up to their eldest sibling. Neteyam wanted to be as calm and responsible as her to make his parents proud and sought out her guidance, Lo'ak admired her fiery nature and the fun she could have and only ever wanted to go on adventures with her, Kiri loved her ability to appreciate all that was around her and her knowledge of their world and needed her to learn all she knew, and sweet Tuk just wanted to be around her wherever she went, always attached to her hip. However, even if their intentions were pure; they all wanted something from her. Though she loved her siblings, she could feel the pressure her father had subconsciously put on her. Where the others could slack off or get away with things with a mere warning or a simple chore, she received the brunt of it all, for if she made a wrong decision, it would reflect poorly on the others as they'd no doubt mirror her set example. Perhaps it was Jake's insecurity about how to raise a child that made him want to shape her into the best version of herself, but his ways were questionable, and by doing so, he wasn't paying attention to how much it actually strained her.
So, Netzari did not mind one bit whenever her mother would take her out for hours on end to teach her the ways of their people. With each intake of fresh air, she could feel Eywa course through her lungs and with each thankful exhale, she knew this was where she was meant to be. During lessons with her grandmother, who taught her the ins and outs of what it meant to be a clan’s Tsahìk, she listened carefully and with much intrigue. And when her father taught her how to fight and hold her own, she saw him beam with pride and joy and she knew that things would be alright, even if he was quick to put pressure on her. But then he would start to nitpick each thing she did, in his defence simply because he meant the best for her and only wanted her to succeed, to be the strongest version she could be, to be a toruk makto's daughter. It hammered away at her self-confidence. Surely, she would learn by trial and tribulation. She needed to face her own challenges and make mistakes in order to learn. Not get berated for how she could've done something differently. Not to even begin about the lecture she would get if one of her siblings had gone out of line. Then, at times, he'd talk to her in his own language, something he had never dropped throughout the years, for in the beginning, all he knew was the language of the humans. He had slowly eased out of his language throughout the years as he had started to pick up on Na’vi, but the foreign language Netzari had heard all throughout her first years hadn’t been lost on her. Jake had used it to tell infant Netzari stories about his life on his own planet. Although she spoke with an accent, she understood his language. And she hated every aspect of it. She’d roll her eyes when her younger brother’s first few words were a few human ones and she’d shrink and shudder each time she’d hear someone whisper a bad one or point as she walked by. It was building up, and she could feel the pent-up anger, confusion and exhaustion rumbling closely underneath her chest, where it all hurt the most. For whenever her father spoke human to her, she would be reminded that she was different, that she didn't fit in, and perhaps would never truly find her place in the forest she called home.
☾ ⋆⁺₊༄.ೃ࿔。⋆༶⋆˙⊹
Netzari heard its teeth crunching the branch it was chewing before she could see it, but it was definitely there; the Hexapede whose fresh tracks she had followed. Softly, she steadied her bow and adjusted her aim to its movements.
“Do not hold your breath. Let it flow freely, calmly. Let Eywa guide you.”
She heard her mother’s voice in her mind and could almost feel her stern eyes on the back of her head, observing her actions. If Neytiri had been there, she would probably have adjusted her elbow a little with a gentle slap, but Netzari had quickly mastered and adjusted her bow skills to her own posture.
She neared through the bushes, blending in among the nature Eywa had blessed them with. She blinked softly and curled her lip, pulling the string backwards… waiting just a second longer before-
The Hexapede's head shot up, but as it tried to run for cover, it dropped onto the pebbled ground beside the shallow river.
She heard their laughing echo through the trees and saw the group of Na'vi children her age approach the animal. One of the boys pulled out his arrow, wiped it clean and turned to his friends with a smug smile on his face, with no further regard for the animal he had killed.
“That is four for me, one for you. Want to go look for more?”
"And make it five for you? No."
Netzari craned her head; it was a large number of animals they had supposedly hunted, too much for one day for their clan, yet she saw no carcass being pulled behind them. Curious, and perhaps already a little on edge because of all the previous times these kids had gotten under her skin, she appeared from behind the vegetation.
Immediately, they turned to her and started to snicker, “Ah, we were wondering when you would come out of your hiding place.”
With a snarled lip, she harshly pushed the bushes away and approached, “I was not hiding, I was hunting.”
“By yourself?” One of the girls feigned surprise and they all started to look around, “Where is your mommy?
“I’m ten, I don’t need to have my mom with me everywhere.” Somewhat hurt in her pride, Netzari crossed her arms. “I’m the oldest.”
“Are you sure? Because my-my... they do love to keep you close. Has Daddy already forgiven you for bonding with a direhorse without his permission?”
Netzari’s tail started to flick erratically and her ears twitched in annoyance. Still, she tried so hard to push it away. She just needed to ignore them, like her parents had told her to. She turned to the animal and bent down, softly caressing its skin and closing her eyes, ready to start the prayer, which they had forgotten, to send its spirit back to Eywa when one boy spoke,
“What are you doing? It's dead?”
Netzari huffed, already sensing it was not his priority to become a Taronyu, “We share our home with them, you do not kill without paying respect.” She bitterly muttered, annoyed she had been interrupted. She saw the animal twitch, “And we do not let it suffer.”
"They breed rapidly, we will never run out, what does it matter?"
She let out a hiss to herself, doing her best to ignore their judgemental stares, “Oel ngati kameie, ma tsmukan, ulte ngaru seiyi irayo.” Netzari softly whispered as the sheath of her blade shone in the sun sneaking through the trees above, “Ngari hu Eywa salew tirea, tokx 'ì'awn slu Na'viyä hapxì.” She placed a gentle hand on where the animal’s heart had stopped beating mere moments ago when her blade had seeped in, and closed her eyes in one final silent prayer to Eywa. But her peace was interrupted as soon as the group had taken one quick look at her hands again.
“-four-fingered demon freak.”
Was all she heard them whisper, but it was enough to set her off. Instantly, she shot up and grabbed the boy with a smug look on his face, who had no doubt been the one muttering the words. The group dispersed immediately, frightened by her sudden movement. She rattled him in his place, her teeth bared as she snarled, and her ears pinned to her head.
“Go! Leave me alone!” She rose her voice, trying her hardest to ignore the itch of wanting to lash out again. But no, she would not disappoint her parents.
Getting over his initial fright, the boy pushed her off, making her lose her balance and fall into the creek, which set off another round of laughs. Each chuckle made a sharp pain shoot through her.
"You go! Back to your own planet."
“Like hell-“ Netzari muttered, quickly abandoning the promise she’d made to her parents to not get into fights again. She never once instigated them though, it was her shared blood with humanity and the deformities she had gotten from that same shared DNA that seemed to be the one thing that was a thorn in the eye for them.
She ran up to him, trying to pull at his queue, but one of his friends pulled him back and grabbed her arm, yanking her to the side. Without another thought and using her first instincts to react, her elbow harshly reared back. She heard a stifled yell before a sharp pain coursed through her elbow. That had made the dam break because now, the boy in front of her tried to pull and claw at her arm. She swiftly evaded his attempts thanks to her father’s lessons. Maybe human tactics were good for something, at last. Her feet landed against his kneecap after a kick and he fell into the mud with a groan, barely holding himself up when she climbed onto his back and held him there, putting pressure on his ribcage with her knee.
The sound and commotion of fighting children echoed through the trees and atop her Ikran, Neytiri perked her ears to the sound.
“Get off of him, you freak!”
“Demon, demon!”
A small gasp left Neytiri's mouth and she widened her eyes in realisation before readjusting her course and flying straight to the noise.
Netzari hissed when someone pulled at her tale and queue simultaneously and tried to stop herself from being dragged away through the mud. But it was five against one; this was no fair fight.
She heard her mother’s approaching hoot before she saw the Ikran's shadow hovering above them, the clapping of its wings dangerously looming over her head.
“Hey!” Neytiri yelled at her daughter’s bullies, who instantly let go of the eldest Sully upon seeing her mother.
Their surprise and fright gave Netzari room to finally fight back again, and so she punched the girl who had held her in the stomach.
“Enough!” Neytiri yelled, staring at them with her dangerous glare. Within an instant, all the children disappeared through the density of the forest. All except the girl who had fallen to the ground in a heap of coughs after Netzari’s punch.
The young Sully squatted beside her and hissed a warning; a clear missive to never bother her again. The girl trembled slightly and her eyes showed real fear for a split second as they flickered between the young Sully and her mother, until all Netzari’s intimidation was being washed away by her mother pulling her back. The look in the girl’s eyes changed as Netzari fussed and flailed around, and she quickly disappeared after her friends into the forest.
Neytiri squeezed her daughter's arm, “Hey! Stop it! No more! Mawey, 'Tzari, mawey!”
Harsh breaths puffed through Netzari's nose, her teeth were still clenched shut and her ears were still pulled back in anger and alarm. Upon seeing her daughter’s once bright sunny eyes filled with tears, Neytiri let go and stumbled back. Netzari did not need to say one word for her mother to know what had happened. Again. Still, she did not want or need her daughter to pick fights every week, come home with cuts and bruises or make problems for their family. Jake was Olo'eyktan, and their family needed to act like it.
Though Neytiri’s next words were stern, Netzari could feel that her mother was not one bit angry at her for defending herself. Instead, her eyes showed compassion... hurt and guilt.
“Go.” Neytiri gestured with her head, “To grandmother. I will get your father.”
“But they-!”
“Let her take care of the bruises and tangles.” She pulled at some of her daughter’s locks. Each day, she'd come home with them in a tangle, and no matter how often Neytiri asked her if she wanted them braided, Netzari loved her loose locks with the occasional single braid being hidden beneath them. No matter if it made her even more different in the eyes of the others.
"We'll talk later. Go now."
Netzari dropped her head, her ears falling in sorrow, and softly trudged through the forest, leaving her mother with an aching heart behind. They didn’t like her. Did not accept her. That was the most important thing to be a part of a clan, to be a daughter of an Olo'eyktan, especially since Netzari could one day very well be the next generation’s Tsahík, yet they did not want Netzari around. She did not belong. Her girl, who loved dearly and who was fierce yet good-natured. Only because she was different.
Neytiri's eyes glazed over as she turned to the Hexapede's carcass on the ground, where her daughter’s dagger still rested against its skin. Neytiri bent down, said the same silent prayer, cleaned the dagger and stored it in her belt. Her fingers traced the messy shot in the animal’s hip and she immediately knew why the fight had started, for her daughter was a far better shot; this hadn't been her doing. Netzari’s hatred towards injustice and unkindness could sometimes be greater than the mighty Eywa herself. It was one thing Jake and Neytiri loved about her, yet, as it seemed, it was also the thing that brought her the most trouble. Still, one day, it would be a valued quality for a Tsahík or for a strong Na'vi woman in general. That was if that day would come. The clan could very easily cast her daughter aside if they did not accept her as their healer and spiritual leader. And Netzari getting into fights every other week did not help her case at all.
Neytiri puffed out a frustrated breath and stood up, already dreading having to involve Jake. But he had to know; as Olo'eyktan, as her mate, and as Netzari's father. Their daughter was hurting, and now so was Neytiri.
"Ma Nì’awvem..." She sighed in sorrow, "Ma'ite..."
☾ ⋆⁺₊༄.ೃ࿔。⋆༶⋆˙⊹
Jake stormed into Mo'at's hut, making the older woman look up in annoyance and shake her head as she tended to her granddaughter. Silently, and with her eyes locked on the hands in her lap, all Netzari saw was the extra digit on her hand. However, her father's voice booming through the hut made her look up instantly.
Swallowing down half of his initial anger after having been given a look by Mo'at, Jake cleared his throat, "Tell me what happened." He examined his daughter from afar, seeing her sunken shoulders and her glossy eyes.
"Who started it?" Jake bit his lip in thought, taking place beside his daughter as he squatted to her level from where she sat, "Talk to me, my girl."
But Netzari did not need to answer, for he saw her clutching the extra finger they both had so tightly, that her knuckles turned white.
"I will come back later." Mo'at excused herself and left the hut, not without giving him another stern look, finding Neytiri nervously pacing there.
"Sa'nok-" She sighed in desperation, feeling like a young girl all over again in her own mother's arms, "-It is getting worse, I cannot send her to you every week. She is unhappy. She is... she will, I see-"
"Ma'ite, trust that Eywa is looking out for her-" Mo'at comforted, "-as she does for all of her children. Remind yourself that our Great Mother blesses only the strongest warriors with the most difficult challenges."
"She is only a child." Neytiri peeked a glance at Jake and their daughter through the cracks of the hut, "Not a warrior."
"One day she will be. This is Eywa's path for her. Trust it."
Jake realised it would take more than just a joke and a teasing nudge to get his daughter to crack and sat down beside her, staring at the flickering flame in front of them.
"You know, they used to pick on me too for being different." Jake started, awkwardly playing with his hands as his arms rested on his knees, "I mean, I wasn't as young as you were now, but the planet I came from is harsh. People were not kind to each other, especially not when you were different."
Netzari looked up momentarily and Jake smiled encouragingly at her, sensing the slight intrigue on her features even if she'd heard this story before, "I couldn't walk, so your Pops had to depend on others in the beginning to get a better quality of life. But I learned very quickly that people don't feel inclined to help when it does not concern them." He softly nudged his daughter's knee with his own, trying to get her to look at him again for his next words, "But it made me stronger. More independent. Made me grow a thick skin. It taught me to always be kind to another because even if we're all different, we're just as much all the same... and so we all deserve to be treated with kindness."
Jake watched his daughter let his words sink, "Hey, look at me, baby girl," He held her shoulder and smiled softly when he looked into her golden eyes. It hurt how she had grown up within the blink of an eye, not only because of how fast Na'vi children grew, but also because Jake feared he had spent too much time with the younger ones to realise that even if Netzari was his oldest, she was just a child as well. He feared he was too late now. It suddenly hit him that he might have not told her enough of how much she meant to him, "You're unique. You're a reminder that there is good in this world after all. And you are a reminder of how much your mom and I love each other and love all of you. Never forget that, okay?"
When Netzari softly nodded, Jake pulled her against him and planted a kiss on her head, "Our family is our fortress, remember?"
Jake felt her nod against his chest. He cleared his throat and made her look at him, "But no more fighting."
"But dad-"
"I cannot have my daughter throwing punches left and right just because of some silly bickering."
"It wasn't silly! And you told me to always stick up for myself! Why would you-"
From outside the hut, Neytiri's ears perked at the sound of voices getting louder.
"I am Olo'eyktan, I cannot accept this behaviour. You are my daughter, you need to set an example for the other young Na'vi... for your siblings."
"If I don't bite back, they will just continue to walk all over me!"
"Then you'll just have to walk away before they get the chance too."
Netzari pulled back out of his arms completely, confusion and anger displayed on her face.
"Jake-" Neytiri stood in the opening of the hut, disagreement evident n her eyes.
Netzari shot up from her place on the ground, "This is not fair! I have always been on my best behaviour, but they-! They..." Tears pooled in her eyes, and Neytiri took a step closer, wanting to console her eldest, even if she could see that the ten-year-old was fuming.
"You're just afraid to take action and get them to stop because of how their parents will judge you as Olo'eyktan!" She yelled, watching her father with widened eyes of rage and frustration, "I hate it! I just want to be normal and start my Iknimaya and train with the others and- ugh!" She groaned and squeezed her hands in two tight fists.
"Netzari-" Jake waved his hand in a gesture of finality, "No more. I told you that you will no longer pick fights or look for trouble, and you will obey."
Netzari wasn't having any of it, "I try my best to be the perfect daughter, to be the perfect big sister, to be the perfect trainee to grandmother, but the only thing you see is what I do wrong! You tell me to walk away but they come for me! I don't belong here, everyone treats me like I'm different. Can't you see?! Even you, Dad!"
"Netzari," Already exhausted from having to discuss this again, Jake sighed and held his temple, "Your tone, please."
"Oh right, because what if Lo'ak hears and will raise his voice the next time he gets into a fight by defending himself from being called a four-fingered freak too?!"
"That's enough!"
Netzari flinched, her tears falling onto her cheeks as she inhaled sharply. Her large golden eyes flickered between both her parents, but where she saw hurt in her mother's, her father's were harsh and inscrutable.
"You will do as I said; no more fights. And that's an order."
Her lip trembled and her ears were glued stuck to the back of her head. The words left her lips before she realised how they would cut deep like the sharpest blade, "I wish I didn't exist!"
Neytiri gasped and felt a painful tug at her heart from hearing those words coming from one of her life's greatest gifts, "Ma'tseo-" She whispered out, but it fell on deaf ears.
Speechless, the only thing Jake could do was let her words hit him with full force. When he melted from his freeze and wanted to touch her shoulder, Netzari stepped aside.
"Asshole!" She spoke in his language, knowing it would hurt more, taking both her parents off guard before she stormed out.
"Hey! Come back here!" Jake called after her, "You do not speak like that!" He made a move to follow her when he was pulled back,
"I will talk to her later-" Neytiri's voice wavered, "Let her. Let her, please. She is hurting. Let her..."
Jake finally turned to his mate, a dejected sigh leaving his mouth, "I don't know what to do with her. We've had her the longest, you should think we'd know her the best. I don't know how to discipline her."
"You do not have to. She is well-behaved."
"You call fighting her peers well-behaved?" Jake gave her an incredulous look, "I looked the other way for years, thinking it was just what children do, but she's growing older and I can no longer accept this kind of behaviour."
Neytiri sighed and shook her head. How detached was Jake really to not have realised what had been going on? "They should be the ones being disciplined, to respect our ways to live in harmony. Not our girl, Ma’Jake. They call her names, cast her out, hurt her. Yes, they’re children, but if we let this go on, she’ll grow up to be..." The words unhappy and alone got caught stuck in her throat.
"Has it really been that bad?"
Neytiri nodded solemnly, "I saw it, Jake, it was five against one. You know Netzari is not reckless enough to just pick fights for no reason. Time and time again, she has done so to defend herself," She squeezed his shoulder and looked him straight in the eyes, "Now it is your turn to defend her."
He pursed his lips, letting it sink in.
"Show her you are the man from the stories she was lulled to sleep with. Be Olo'eyktan. Be Toruk Makto. Protect your people. Protect our little girl, Ma'Jake."
His hand went to cup the one on his shoulder and pulled it off, holding Neytiri's hand and nodding as he looked her in the eyes.
"I'll protect our fortress."

Jake and Neytiri have adopted Spider when he was a baby, now they had Neteyam. and Neytiri doesn't know how human and na'vi biology is different
tw: only mention of breastfeeding
Neytiri has two sons close i age, but only one, the youngest, was hers by womb.
Her sons had only nine months of difference between eachother, that meant that her older son still needed her for everything especially food.
So when Neytri saw the occasion, she lost no time to give him her milk instead of the one the lab gave to her.
He always eated good and until he was full, which was not a na'vi baby size but was still something.
And Neytiri needs to admit it, she enojed giving the child milk, it was a different way to bond with him, a more natural way that she couldn't have because they didn't spent those important nine months together.
And everything was great, until it wasn't
The kid had developed a bad stomach ache, that meant, trip to the lab, dippers of the lab and wake up in the middle of the night to find, one dirty baby who was crying and the other who was crying for the bed smell.
"We are stopping it today" Jake said picking up Neteyam.
"What do you mean Ma Jake?" She asked him, the dirty baby in her arms crying for what he had done.
"I'm taking Neteyam to your mother, we meet at the lab" he said to Neytiri making her shiver a bit.
She already had to spend all day long with the sky people, once she was home, she wanted to be only with her mate and their kids.
So, a surprise visit wasn't really on her list, and she tried to much to persuade Jake to come back to bed, that she would have change Spider dipper, and that they would be okay for t night.
But once he was determined even, she couldn't persuade him, and when something was about the kids? That was automatically happening.
it was in this way that she was now in a lab surrounded by sky people at two in the morning.
"Max, can you please say what does he have?" Jake asked Max; he was a doctor, and that was all she knew and needed to know when it comes to her boy.
"Do you want me to be honest? this is the most horrible tummy ache i ever saw, did his diet change?" he asked
"no, he didn't change diet, right 'Tiri?" Jake now asked her.
"no i always feed him milk and we are starting on the fruits" she responded back
"Then i don't really know" Max responded "Better if he stays with us for some time guys"
Neytiri's heart felt like it was begging stab, over and over again.
Her baby couldn't stay with her, and for what? She couldn't understand it, she must have been the worst mother ever.
"wait" a female doctor next to Max said "you didn't come to get the milk in the last few weeks, what milk have you gave him?" she asked Neytiri.
"mine" he responded quickly, and all the room felled into silent.
Jake eyes were open to their extremes, his tail was also still.
everyone in the room looked at Neytiri "what?" she asked.
"Neytiri, you can't give him your milk, is bad for him." Max told her.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
it took her all night to understand that Na'vi milk was bad for humans, it was maybe the most embarrassing conversation of her life, next to the one when her father and mother explained her how mating worked.
in the end, they got home, but without Spider that needed to do a gastric lavage or something like that, she didn't catch the name well. What she caught was the laugh Jake did when they got out of the lab.

Oh No
The prompt was Quaritch showing up to the Sullys' front door, hell bent on reclaiming Spider and uncaring about the consequences. Here's the drabble! 1.6k, swearing, Lyle features!
Oh, shit.
“Jake!” Spider yelled, his voice conveying the level of absolute terror that the sound of the tyres on the drive sent into his very being. “He’s here!”
He’s found me.
“Get away from the window!” Jake came barrelling into the living room, shoving Spider away from the curtain where he’d been watching. His face was panicked.
“Kids!” Jake yelled, calling up the stairs. “Stay in your rooms! Lock the doors!”
Lo’ak, Kiri and Neteyam didn’t have time to reply before the intimidating figure of Miles Quaritch was bolting from the door of the car and charging up the driveway.
Terror flooded Spider’s insides.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
The door shook with the force of the hits. Jake pulled Spider by the shoulder into the hallway.
“Open up! You’ve got one chance! I'm here for Miles!”
Spider’s heart was pounding so hard he thought his ribs were going to crack. Quaritch was here.
And he wasn’t leaving.
Jake pushed Spider roughly behind him, up a couple of the stairs. What would happen if Miles broke in? Would he be content with taking Spider? Or would he silence the rest of the family? Spider thanked his stars that Neytiri and Tuk were out at least - but the rest, would they be allowed to escape unscathed?
“Get off my property!” Jake shouted through the locked front door. “The cops are already on their way!”
“I’m coming for you Miles! Come out so no one gets hurt!”
“Jake…” Spider urged, voice low.
“It’s okay, he’s not gonna take you.”
Whack.
The door shuddered as Quaritch began shouldering it in.
“How long till the cops get here?” Spider's voice was shaky, matching the trembling hands he was using to grip Jake’s arm with.
“Not long,” Jake's voice was firm, reassurance only thinly veiling the fear he clearly felt. “Don’t worry, he’s not taking you.”
Whack.
The door shuddered again.
“Come out, Miles.”
Whack.
The door splintered, small at first. Spider watched with wide eyes from behind Jake as Quaritch shouldered the door again, forcing the splinter to split the wood further. “Jake…” Spider’s voice rose.
“He’s not getting you.”
Spider looked up at his foster dad, his body tense and defensive, gaze locked on the door, which surely didn’t have long left.
“Dad!” Kiri called down the stairs, terrified at the sounds.
“Kiri! Lock yourselves in! Don’t come out!”
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
One more forceful shoulder was all it took to break the door completely, and to Spider’s horror, Quaritch’s hand appeared through the gap in the wood and fumbled around for the lock.
“Stay out! I’m armed!” Jake lied.
“Oh yeah?” Quaritch replied, finding the lock and twisting. “So am I.”
The door swung open and the full height of Miles Quaritch was revealed, holding in both hands a loaded, grey pistol, pointing straight at Jake.
“No!” Spider yelled, pushing Jake to the side to better see his father.
Quaritch’s face lit up when he saw him. “Miles!” he grinned, eyes wide and looking like a textbook maniac. “It’s been a while! You’re looking good!”
“Please leave,” Spider tried to get his voice to sound assertive, but he knew it couldn’t have been working.
“Course I’m gonna leave! I’ve got no plans to stick around here!” He cast his eyes briefly around the entrance to the house. “But I’m not leaving without you. Get in the car.”
Spider shook his head, while Jake shoved him back behind him. “You’re not. Taking him. The cops will be here any minute-”
“I’m bored of this,” Quaritch cut him off. He turned his attention back to Spider. “Come with me, or I’ll shoot this man.”
Cold, cold terror flooded Spider’s gut, rising up his throat and into his mouth. He stared at Quaritch, then looked at Jake, knowing he didn’t have a choice.
“I don’t want to, but I will,” Quaritch sighed, staring only at Spider as he trained his gun towards Jake’s chest.
“Stop! Okay, I’ll come with you!” Spider tried to push Jake aside, but the man wasn’t letting him go.
“No,” growled Jake.
Bang! Before Spider realised, Quaritch let off a warning shot, pointing straight up into the ceiling of the house. Dust trickled down from the hole left behind in the ceiling. Quaritch retrained his aim on Jake.
“Hurry up, kid.”
This time, when Spider shoved past Jake, Jake didn’t try and stop him. Spider knew he was thinking the same thing as him. It was Neteyam’s room right above where they were. Had the bullet hit any of the others?
Spider deliberately didn’t look at Jake as he crossed the space between him and Quaritch; his legs felt like they were moving of their own accord. He scrambled out from behind Jake, then cautiously closed the gap. His breaths came in pants as his ex military father stared him down eagerly.
He didn’t get a chance to say anything before Quaritch grabbed him by the arm, spinning him around to face the door and keeping his gun pressed into Spider’s back.
Spider gasped at the sudden threat to his life and it was all he could do to keep up as Quaritch marched them out of the door and up to the car. Another man was waiting for them, bald and dressed in all black combat attire, holding a pair of snapcuffs.
“No!” Spider shouted, struggling against Quaritch’s bruising grip, but with the other man yanking his hands behind his back and securing them in the cuffs, Spider could do nothing to fight. “Wait!” Spider yelled helplessly as Quaritch shoved Spider into the back of the car, the two men racing around to the front and climbing in without wasting a moment.
Spider landed half on the seats and half on the floor, unable to brace himself with his hands, and scrambled to get up.
He was in the car.
This was really happening.
“Let me out!” He demanded furiously, as the second man only let out an amused huff and his father spoke condescending words from the passenger seat.
“I’ve got you now, Miles. I’ve waited so long to have you back. You’ve got no idea!”
They were off, speeding away down the street before Spider could even fully accept what was happening.
“Please!” He shouted. His hands being tied behind his back made it impossible for him to try and attack either man sat in front, so he grabbed the door handle instead and pulled.
He knew it would be locked, but the dread of the confirmation still froze him all over. Undeterred, he wiggled into a better position and pulled again, this time using his legs to kick the door out as well.
“Quit that! You know, I’m surprised at you Miles. I thought you’d be smarter.”
Anger bubbled in Spider’s stomach as he snarled in frustration, taking it all out on the car door. “Fuck you!” He shouted. “And my name is Spider!”
Spider could see Quaritch turn to his mate in the driver’s seat, who still hadn’t spoken a word, and exchange smirks.
“And a mouth on you too! I’m glad you’ve got spunk! Yeah, you’re my boy alright.”
It was so… evil, so unhinged. Spider couldn’t contain his fury. “I am not your boy!” He snarled, lacing the words with as much hatred as he could muster.
“It’s okay, Miles. I know this is a stressful situation for you. But you’ll see soon enough.”
Spider threw his head back against the seat, trying to repress a scream of frustration. He did the only thing that felt right. “You’re a piece of shit! Good for nothing, son of a bitch! Let me out, now!”
When he got no response, he doubled down. “Bastards!” He shouted, trying instead to kick the window out. Thank God he was wearing his boots. He lay down on the seat and used his heel to hit the window as hard as he could, over and over again, cussing his mouth out the whole time.
“Damn, kid!” Quaritch said, laughing. “You’ll break your foot before you break that glass!”
Everything the man said triggered Spider. His next kick was only partly an attempt to escape, and more so an effort to spite the man calling himself his father. He rammed his foot as hard as he could into the ungiving glass, uncaring about the consequences and fuelled by adrenaline, and cried out as what Quaritch said would happen came true.
Pain tore through his ankle as his foot gave way, feeling like something had shattered.
“Fuck!” he screamed, unable even to clutch his throbbing ankle. He lay on the seat, keeping his injured foot raised against the window, panting against the pain.
When he came to his senses, he resumed his verbal tirade. “I hate you! You’re a sick ballsack who needs therapy! Open the fucking door!”
“You’re not gonna quit, are you?” Quaritch half turned from the passenger seat to face him. Spider sized up the distance between them, wondering if he could manage to spit at him from here.
“Like fuck, I am!” he yelled.
He didn’t see the look Quaritch threw the bald driver, or the man’s nod in response. All he saw was Quaritch reach into the glovebox and pull something out, fiddling with it in his lap before suddenly lunging back towards Spider and covering his mouth with a thick wad of material that stank of chemicals. He panicked, trying to wriggle away, but his hands were trapped underneath him, and Quaritch was strong. At first he thought his father was trying to suffocate him, but after only one breath he realised he’d misjudged it. His eyes started to close without his permission while his head suddenly swam at the stench. He could do nothing more as the world around him turned black.
