Series: Part 1 of dae jang guem au
Summary:
Wei Ying sees: a jacket of emerald silk, navy bulky skirt pooled across the ground.
“— don’t know what’s wrong,” a round-faced girl is saying. One of Jin Ling’s fellow apprentice cooks, from the look of her teal uniform and white apron. “She just collapsed!”
The woman braced between them waves her off. Her headpiece, a thick crown of braids, denotes her status as head court lady of the palace kitchen. Wei Ying feels sick. “Sizhui, Jin Ling,” the woman says.
The other two girls snap to attention. “Yes?”
“Help me up.”
Between the two of them, they manage to get her on her feet. She lifts her face. Her astonishingly light-colored eyes meet Wei Ying’s like a needle sliding home. She is so beautiful it hurts.
Wei Ying swallows. “Lan Zhan,” she says weakly. “Hi.”
*
When you enter the palace, you become the king's woman. For Wei Ying, who has long been cast out, this was no longer supposed to be a problem.

It’s an oldie, a humdinger of an oldie too. It’s one of those batsh*it crazy ones, where everyone is dialed up to hundred on melodramatic acid, but it’s so fun to watch. Of coarse you can’t take anything seriously, the storyline is your basic love triangle/marriage contract one. Both main leads have wonderful chemistry together. It does get awfully frustrating though in the middle half going back in forth in the love triangle. The music in this is beautiful I do have to say. It’s a major plus. Love love the ost. I did have a fun time watching this one. Yes there is glaring problems with it and yes it’s hella cliche, but it’s enjoyable especially if you fast forward through some scenes that do get draggy.

After 4 grueling days, I finished Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace). Loved it. Lee Young-Ae was fantastic. Do I even need to say how much I love Ji Jin Hee? I can't even express it in words. Now I know why Japan sold a stamp of him after this drama was released. What a man.
It was better than Dong Yi in terms of story and characters. I was not going to binge it, but I got sucked in. (Once Min Jung Ho came on-screen, it was over for me.)
