just watched the school for good and evil and SOME NETFLIX WRITERS ARE ABOUT TO GET A VERY STRONGLY WORDED EMAIL TONIGHT BECAUSE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THAT

Recently I expressed my love for this scene:

in particular for the way it subtly but effectively highlights the emotional bond between Jesper and Wylan and the trust they have in each other (and how in sync they are).

There is another scene (a little moment within a scene actually) that does the same - and comes much earlier in the season:

After whispering to Jesper "We don`t [have a replacement for the cut piano wire]", Wylan keeps staring at him - but how! He doesn`t look frightened, desperate or accusing - he`s expecting a solution to their problem. Despite already being quite aware that Jesper doesn`t have a plan at the ready, Wylan is still sure that his companion will come up with something.

Well, he`s right about that: Jesper does - and silently motions Wylan to create a distraction for Alby and his nanny, believing that the novice will understand what he needs him to do. And Jesper turns out to be right as well: Wylan gets him in a heartbeat, gives a small nod and proceeds to do as he`s been instructed. Not a single word said.

They get each other perfectly, and they - rightfully - believe that the other has their back, both willing and capable to do that. The trust and understanding are beautifully intertwined in their relationship, creating a bond that seemingly just couldn`t be developed during such a short acquaintance - yet it is so natural, so real that the audience just can`t help but believe the unbelievable.

These two are really made for each other, aren`t they?🥰

y/ndevils00 hello and welcome back to your preseason recap! i’m your host, y/n “dove”, here to give you my totally unbiased and not at all subjective rundown!

as this is preseason, not all of our favorite whores were playing tonight (gotta give the babies a chance!) but among the ones who WERE, we have best friend (or idiot) number 2, sweet baby jesper, akira-shakira, basket bahl, smush, uncle lizard, new-found uncle truffle, and everyone’s favorite babygirl: jacky!

side note: do you guys think Jack was looking around suspiciously in fear of me taking his picture? 👀

we had a pretty uneventful first period until my recently acquired uncle, tyler, scored the first goal of the game! go uncle truffle! he also let uncle lizard borrow his stick and glove! we love besties who share!

we opened second period with (fuck it we) bahl getting a penalty for interference! in my opinion, he didn’t interfere with anything because trash cannot be disrupted… but whatever! (yes i did stand on an empty seat to get that picture over the glass, no i will not be stopped)

halfway through second we had a goalie switch! those are fun! (they are not fun.) and i was caught taking a picture…. that doesn’t happen often, the guys can’t usually find me… i think schmido-torpedo has a y/n-sense. kinda like the sense i have to catch Jack when he’s watching cocomelon (that can also be found on slide 6)

in third period, my sweet sweet baby bratter got the devils ahead by one with his goal! pop off, you sweet swedish fish!

seeing as he went to the matt tkachuk school of hockey, lukey pookie was seen chewing on his mouth guard like LSH and electrical cords 🫶

and finally, i added in a picture of maraschino cherry, because he did good tonight despite being the apparent object of the rags hatred and being targeted! he held his own and even pushed a rags player tonight!

p.s. we scored an empty netter goal as well, getting us a 3-2 win tonight, but the puck flew in on its own for us? who knew that was possible!

some spoilery thoughts on s2 since i finished it

• I want to personally thank whoever made the decision to have Kaz go completely unhinged, I loved every second of it

• WYLAN AND JESPER? they had the cutest scenes together

• Patrick did a phenomenal job as Nikolai, i will admit I was concerned over whoever would be casted because Nikolai is my favorite grishaverse character and I was afraid how his personality would transfer over to the show

• Genya. Daisy did an incredible job this season, her performance was stunning. I loved the David x Genya content but I knew it was too good to be true (I know it’s canon but whoever decided to include his death early … sleep with one eye open) 💔

• Pekka is so hateable, the actor is doing a wonderful job portraying him

• I loved the Dregs/Per Haskell reference

• TOLYA AND TAMAR’S ENTRANCE?? HELLO? i actually stopped breathing

• The hallucinations while they were all being poisoned? I burst into tears IMMEDIATELY when Jesper’s mom was there.

• Nikolai’s injury/shadow monster scene had me gasping, I was convinced they weren’t including it

• Nadia and Tamar being hinted at 🥰

• Pirate Inej

• Mogens was TERRIFYING, the way he smelled Inej’s hair …. I got sick to my stomach

• “I’m begging you” “Are you?”

• THE WAY MATTHIAS WAS DREAMING OF NINA. “Matthias was dreaming again, dreaming of her” was the first thing that popped into my head. Plus his little moments with the wolves 🥹

• Jesper and Nina were so funny

• INEJS HALLUCINATION. i screamed so loud my mom got scared. “may I?” I ACTUALLY DIED. plus the tiny wound cleaning scene?? freddy and amita are actually insane. who’s doing it like them-

• Alina’s dark moment at the coronation? what was that about?!?! she looked so gorgeous in that outfit though

• Ben’s line delivery was so hilarious to me, he does such a good job in this role

• We have all six crows! I loved the detail in one of the opening credit scenes with the five crows on the sign and the sixth trapped in a window.

• Literally everything bc this season was so good despite so many complaints otherwise. We’d better be getting s3/soc spin-off or I’ll become so insufferable and upset .

hi hello!! i'm so glad you like my fics so much (i promise i haven't forgotten about the anastasia au) and akdhdhk i'm also so glad you loved my little exploration of love in the hanahaki fic -- the trope is such a fascinating concept and i wanted to explore what it was to love, and to be loved back. i'm quite sure i lost my track somewhere in the fic, but the original fic concept had alternating jesper and wylan POVs. the pacing went all over the place though, so i stuck with wylan's POV, but please enjoy one of the deleted jesper POV scenes 🥰💙

Jesper, the letter read, and it was Kaz’s writing, a loopy cursive that none would suspect Dirtyhands capable of, Wylan can’t pay all your debts for you. He says come home whenever you’re ready, but I say: either come back now, or don’t. Kaz had always been harsh, and Jesper let himself sit on the edge of the tiny bed. He’d grown spoiled with Wylan, the mansion’s large rooms so full of light, and Wylan’s kindness so full of love. But Jesper had wasted it all – had seen how much his mistakes had cost Wylan, and – Wylan can’t pay all your debts for you. Jesper hated how Kaz always knew how to cut him. The quarters that he’d been given by Queen Zoya were the standard ones given to any Grisha trainee in Ravka, though he was deemed special enough to not share the room with anyone. There was a bed pushed up against an even smaller window, a table that looked one wrong move away from toppling over – any Durast can fix it, the Queen had dismissed – and a closet that scarcely fit the already scant clothes Jesper had brought. “Wylan,” Jesper said the name out loud to himself, if only to hear it again, his thumb tracing the curve of the name on the paper. His first day of training was tomorrow, and he flipped his other hand up, the lines of his palm staring right at him. Jesper didn’t need Kaz’s letter to tell him that he was a coward – a better man would have waited until morning. Like spinning wheel after wheel and always winning, taking and taking more from the house until – until there wasn’t anything left to take. Anything left to promise, all their broken plans in shards around them. Jesper loved Wylan, like ruin, like ruination. Did that make him a hypocrite? No, he supposed. The three of them spilled into the house from the jurda fields like they were half melted. Saints, after all day with the unforgiving glare of the sun on his shoulders, Jesper could swear he felt steam rising from his skin. But finally, they escaped into the cool shade.

The sigh he let out was a thing of true extravagance, and he knew it was really a miserably hot day when his own father didn’t rib him for it.

“You can say that again.” He muttered.

Sweat trickled from Jesper’s hairline. Colm dragged his discarded shirt down his face. Poor Wylan had all but collapsed onto one of the kitchen chairs, and Jesper clicked his tongue at the state of him.

Not a single one of them had left a layer of clothing on that they didn’t need. Stripped down to nothing but loose trousers, Wylan was nothing but his skinny frame, bony shoulders and ruddy cheeks. His hair was a fluff of humid, cloud-like curls. It was going brighter and lighter in the Zemeni summer.

Jesper was glad they came. It felt like the right call, to get Wylan out of the fishbowl they lived in on the bloody geldstraat.

“Merchling, your shoulders are as red as your hair.” He wasn’t so exhausted that he couldn’t smile, at least. The freckles dusted across the pink skin made him want to kiss him and kiss him.

He got away with just one, pressed to the crook of his neck. It was radiating sunburn and damp with sweat, but Jesper didn’t care. He chuckled at the answering grunt. So graceful. So meek, his Wylan.

“Is it so bad a kiss can’t make it better?” Wylan said wryly.

Colm snorted a choked sort of laugh. He put a glass of water at the table, set out for Wylan to take. “Our Jesper’s just a dramatic— it’s just a little… you’re pink, that’s all.”

He cleared his throat. Wylan didn’t seem to feel the change in the air, too busy chugging down water, but Jesper knew when his da was bothered. He was too curious to not turn and see— there was nothing out of the ordinary here. Was it the sun? Da was never too susceptible to heatstroke, but age was a funny thing.

It wasn’t heatstroke.

He blinked his gaze over to his father, and saw him wide eyed and pale, slack jawed at Wylan’s back.

Saints, he thought, I’m the dramatic one? It took a moment to realise what he was seeing.

There were long lines of scars etched into Wylan’s back— some lighter than others, some more silver than red, and most across his lower back, hidden by the chair. The sunburn made the belting imprint all the more obvious, though, where it bit into his shoulder all that time ago.

Jesper was… they churned his stomach, but he was used to seeing them. They were normal now. He kissed them, traced them absently in the morning. Wylan forgot they existed more often than not. They were old.

But, Jes remembered how he felt the first time he saw them. And his da was looking at him with the same eyes right then.

The morning after scene is not just lovely but quite telling in terms of characterizing both Jesper and Wylan as separate characters and their relationship. Here are my thoughts:

There`s only one thing I love more than Wylan trying to hide his face behind his hands in a totally adorable kitten-ish way after Jesper`s compliment. And it`s the fact that Jesper doesn`t let him do that by gently kissing him🥰 It`s simultaneously a reassurance, a soft request ('Don`t hide from me') and a dare (not to hide from Jesper, but also from himself - 'Accept that you are beautiful')

This scene shows in a very nice and subtle way that Jesper is Wylan`s safe haven - both in a physical and an emotional way. Just look at this - the embrace, the cuddles, Wylan rubbing his face against Jesper`s chest in a caress/self-comfort gesture... I`m dead

I`m convinced that Jesper going on about waffles on fire and whatnot is his nerves talking. I mean, sure, he genuinely cares about keeping Wylan well fed. But the way Jesper`s talking combined with his expression just after he embraces Wylan makes me think about his 'that sounds official' rambling in the deleted scene. Boy is catching feelings, and he`s catching them hard:) And he realizes that he is but doesn`t quite know what to do about it yet.

I absolutely adore that Wylan, once again, takes the lead in initiating the intimacy - and Jesper`s reaction to this

Also I`m in love with the way Jesper keeps touching Wylan - with such gentleness and care, like he`s something precious and cherished (well, he is)

And a cherry on top of the cake - Wylan`s reaction to being cockblocked interrupted by Kaz😂 From 'Woah, what`s happening' to 'Crowdad, fuck off' to looking at Jesper 'Can we tell him to fuck off? No? Damn' to the 'Why does Ghezen hate me?' eyeroll+headdrop combo

My eyes water a bit as I yawn, sitting in the family suite at the Prudential Center. Liv is sleeping in her carrier on me after her latest feeding. Lio is munching on a chicken finger, eyes following his dad around the ice. Timo and Nico are both out on the power play. Lexi is home sick with Lucie, so it’s a relatively quiet game tonight including on the ice where the score remains 0-0.

The puck moves along the perimeter quickly until it gets to Nico. He passes it back to Dougie, then to Jesper, then back to Nico. My brother saucers the pass across the slot to my husband, who one-times it into the back of the net.

“Hey there we go!” I cheer, watching the replay on the Jumbotron. “Daddy!” I poke Lio’s side. 

“I know I saw it.” He beams up. “Can I have ice cream now that dad scored?”

“I’m not sure what one has to do with the other?” I chuckle, but wave him up to the food to grab a bin of dippin’ dots. “Mom tax.” I open my mouth, letting him feed me a little bite.

Timo is skating back onto the ice after his goal when a Blackhawks players starts jawing at him. Timo looks over his shoulder at the guy, smirking as he comes to line up next to him. Timo suddenly stands tall, cross checking his opponent in the chest. Nico is getting ready to take the face off circle then abruptly stands up too, coming over to the other winger across from my husband. Nico shoves at him too. More talking resumes. The ref tries to get between them, but it’s too late. Timo and Nico both go after the same guy. Gloves are flying. Sticks are dropped. One guy tries to get in to pull Timo off. He shoves that guy in the face and keeps going after the original player.

“Oh boy.” I mutter, rubbing at my forehead. The arena stands. I do as well because I am so anxious watching them both fight. I put my mouth on Liv’s head, smoothing my hand over the back of her hair as well.

“Dad is mad.” Lio murmurs, eyes wide and excited. “Get him.” He pounds his little fist into his palm.

“Ah… no.”

“Why?” Lio murmurs. I can’t really lecture him on violence when both his dad and uncle are punching people.

“Because it’s not.. nice.”

After we get home and put the kids to bed, I finally ask Timo what that was all about. We are in the closet changing into our bed time apparel. 

“This motherfucker.” He starts off, stopping from changing out of his suit. His eyes are all squinty as he retells the story. “He was talking about you. Nico and I felt he needed to never do that again. So we took care of it.”

“I can’t believe you both jumped him at the same time.” I shake my head, pulling my flannel pajama pants up my legs. 

“I mean, the opportunity was presented, so why not?”

“Well, your son was mimicking your punches.”

“Our son saw me beat a guy's ass defending you today. I’m okay with that.” He kisses me as he walks out of the closet in only his boxer briefs. “Why you putting pants on? I’m just gonna take them off.” I ignore that, going back to the real issue.

“When he is older and beats a kid up on the playground, I expect you to be on my side with that.”

“Sure, baby.” He says. “Now come here.” 

I walk to the bed, crawling onto his lap. He leans back into the pillows, hands on my hips as I look him over.

“He got you.” I murmur, seeing red under his left eye along with other signs of bruising.

“One. Compared to my fifteen.”

“At least you landed a punch. I couldn’t quite figure out what Nico was doing.”

“Me either. I had to tell him to find someone else.” I lean my head back, laughing at the ceiling, remember how Nico went off to grab the closest Blackhawk.  Timo leans forward, kissing along the swells of my breasts that are off limits again. I sigh with pleasure when his nose outlines my nipple through my shirt 

“Hey.” I tug his hair softly. He knows why.

“So bossy tonight.”

“You like me that way.” He nods in agreement. 

“So what did this guy say?” I ask. Timo sighs like he wants to be done talking about it.

“He said your pussy probably dries up like the desert when you see me.” I burst out laughing. Tears are pooling in my eyes. Timo flips me to my back and crawls over me. His marked up hands pin my wrists on either side of my head as I shake with laughter.

“You know that is not true.” I try to take my hand away to wipe at the tears. He holds me in place.

“I do know that.” He glides a hand into my pants to prove his point. “But that fuck stick shouldn’t be talking about your pussy. And Nico agreed with me so we went. Together. Defending your honor.” I try to get my laughing under control, but then I think about it and start all over again. “You could be a little more grateful.” He mumbles against my mouth, trying to shut me up.

“I sure could.” I pick up his left hand in mine. I wrap my legs around his waist, then swing my full momentum to rotate on top again. Timo is stunned below me. “But I can take care of myself. I’ll fight him next time. Defend your honor.” Timo collects my shirt, bringing it up my body and over my head.

“Mhm, okay baby. Whatever you say.”

A/N: The song sounds like this piece should end in breakup but as I don't write full angst anymore, I came up with another solution. Also why is Y/N a bartender at the Crow Club in my every fic where they're not a Crow or a Dreg... 😂

You were something Kaz had believed he would never meet, or even could. He was the monster in shadows, the reason why children weren't allowed to go out at night if they were unfortunate enough to live in the Dreg area. And yet you had appeared into his life, treating him like any other Dreg. Smiling at him, making up small talk and just... looking at him as if he was a human, not that evil demon everyone seemed to think he was, and from which he had taken pride of.

The very fact that your presence made him happy scared the hell out of him. Feelings were dangerous, and he knew that if you would die on a job, it would feel like his world collapsed on itself, because without you there, he wouldn't know how to keep himself sane. So he was rude to you instead, dismissing your opinions and inputs completely, even telling you to shut up a few times.

"You're not a Crow nor a Dreg, you're here to serve us drinks, I don't need to hear your opinion," he'd say, followed by you sighing. Inej noticed the regret flashing in Kaz's eyes when he said that, but said nothing on the spot. Nina heard his heartbeat and Jesper knew his best friend enough to know if he meant something or not - and when Kaz was like that to you, he definitely did it to hide something. It was a show, he tried so hard to be coldly impassive about it all.

Soon all the Crows knew exactly how Kaz felt about you, and they admired how you seemed to keep your bright face up even when Kaz was acting like an ass to you. Jesper wanted to tell Kaz to stop playing and try to show you how he feels, Nina made teasing remarks about his heart and Inej tried to talk him into apologizing to you at night when she brought information. They were all waiting for him to finally realize what a fool he was being, but he was too stubborn to give in to them.

Kaz couldn't understand why he cared for someone who had no benefit to him. When a drunk got into a fight with you when you didn't agree to let them drink more, he was always there to throw them out before they'd lay their hands on you. He saw you get hit with a bottle once and you had gotten a wound on your head, Kaz was just about to go over and help you as the first person but managed to stop himself when he saw Nina and Jesper already on the way. It was better that way, him helping you in front of everyone wouldn't have had ideal consequences, he would have been seen as weak if he had done that. And not to speak of him trying to hide his feelings from you, what would you think if he had just appeared beside you and offered to help you after trying to act like he doesn't care for so long?

But still, he couldn't help but want to take you somewhere beautiful so you'd have a hint of how he felt about you, maybe he could even tell you how he feels, or buy you... flowers?

He wanted to love you, but he wasn't sure if he ever could show it to you. He wanted to make you feel alright when he found you crying in the back room instead of just standing there for a moment and then leaving. He wanted to be able to comfort you, hug you, kiss the top of your head and mumble comforting words against your skin, but he knew he wasn't ready for anything like that.

But someday, he would be. Someday you could become his friend, more than friend, he would be more than just your boss, and maybe someday he would be able to show his love like he wanted to show it...
