hellooo! i love your work and how articulate you are when writing!! i was wondering if you had any tips or advice for someone who wants to start making fics & how to build a following? 🩷

(this got unintentionally long im so sosrry for yapping anon!)

ON WRITING:

in all honesty, just write and write!! i've written so much stuff starting when i was like 12. when i go back to my past works (ranging from fanfics to nonfanfics), i always cringe so hard cos theyre soooo soooo bad 😭😭 when you write a lot over the years, you're eventually going to see improvements.

also, i think finding your writing style really helps a lot! there are writers whose works are prose-heavy, those whose signature is purple prose, and those who write very simply. i fall under the last category 🤓

another thing is that, find the genre that you think is ur strength and make it a part of your branding(?). some are famous for their fluffy works, some are famous for their angsty fics, and some are famous for their smut. obv, you can mix all of those stuff but theres always something ur better at, and i think its good to lean towards that and leverage on it.

when you do get to writing, i think its important to take into consideration researching what youre gonna write about. it doesnt need to be extensive at all, surface-level research goes a long way!! i have to look up a lot of things while writing nb cos im obv not in tech nor an accountant nor do i habe chaebol friends or live in sk and my life generally is very far from theirs ijbol. it sometimes annoy me when i get to a part that needs some researching, but u really dont want to make it obvious to your audience that u dont know about this particular thing HAHAHA (you can put disclaimer anyway, jic)

the choice of pov is also really important!! i tend to avoid fics that are written in first person, so naturally, i don't write that way. i do think though its kinda common consensus for almost everybody. but its also just a personal preference. i dont think i've read anything thats in first person yet, but im sure my pre conceived notion about it has hindered me from finding a gem written in first person. at the end of the day, it all boils down to how well you write your stuff!!

one last thing; edit your work! your first draft doesnt necessarily have to be the final product. go over your paragraphs to improve some of the phrasing and stuff

ON BUILDING A FOLLOWING (TUMBLR)

i dont exactly have a big following on here lol but here's what (i think i did) to gain enough:

making your blog pretty-looking really helps a lot!! thats what i did when i first started writing on tumblr. make a mlist, navi page, etc. theres a lot of tumblr tutorials accessible on the internet so its not very hard

this could also be under the "making your blog pretty" thing but editing a landscape banner for your story can attract viewers 🩷 (or even those moodboard thingies) (ok i lied its more like a personal experience 😭😭 but i really think it contributes a lil something)

when you post, put it under the right tags to really hit your target audience. the tagging system was really messed up on here a few years back, but i think its better nowadays, so better take advantage of that

be responsive to comments and reblogs and asks! talk to your readers!!

and again, just write and write. the more active you are, the more you post your works, the more traction u get

ah im so glad you enjoy my game reccs! as for movies, that's one of my weak spots ough... it's always been a bit difficult for me to sit down and watch a whole movie, but when i find one i like, i really like it... so here are the ones i liked a lot!

the lorax - was a big autism movie for me. im not sure if i would actually recommend this one hahaha but i watched it 6 times in the cinema, twice in 3d.

titanic - a classic that im sure you've watched already, but i fall in love with it again and again every time i watch it!

donnie darko - is really fun and fucked up and i only recommend watching the first movie, the second one sucks.

clockwork orange - is also really fun and fucked up, please be sure to look up trigger warnings before watching jic!

possession - the 1981 movie that ruined me in a good way!!! its tense and scary and cathartic and horrifying all in one!!

kill list - is so incredibly fucked up and i had to look away during one gore scene so be careful about that, but it's one of my absolute most favourite horror movies EVER.

house - a japanese cult classic !!! super fucking weird, really funny at times, and has some really cool and interesting special effects!

Maybe it comes with experience (and what I've studied), but some people can really be emotionless when you push them too far.

i guess i understand a bit of the criticism but it's as you said, if it's not your cup of tea, don't drink it. sometimes i read something and come to love it until the characters make certain decisions that don't really resonate well with me so i just stop reading it to keep my blood pressure leveled lmao. i mean obviously cmar isn't for just anyone but it does kind of get a bit old when people criticize my y/n for the way that she is and she can't really fix that because of the circumstances in her life.

like in the beginning, someone complained about y/n a doormat and letting everyone walk on her and that she should just stand up and grow some confidence. and now it's being said that she should stop wailing in her pain all the time and just get to the healing part already and it just puts me a bit off guard because like...in the real world, you can't just...pick yourself up because you want to? that's not how things work? and writing things unrealistically is a little....not really my cup of tea when it comes to dealing with trauma and stuff.

also i had a bit of a fear a few months ago when i thought cmar was gonna get to at least 30 chapters because there may be people who don't like long series and the wait being too much for them but honestly i don't really care anymore. at the end of the day, they don't have to read it and wait, you know? and i've had almost everything planned out since i decided to make cmar a series so i'm not gonna cut out certain things just to satisfy people because personally for me, there are certain things that needs to be addressed before y/n does head off to her healing arc.

if people don't wanna wait, they don't have to wait.

Im so sorry im pretty sure u get this kind of questions often, but i saw the last Oomi drawing you posted and omg what are the coloring brushes u use for that kind of painting holy shit it is beautiful.

no need to apologize anon!!! i don't actually get asked this super often, and i tend to change brushes over time/depending on the piece, so i'm happy to answer! also, i'm really glad you like that piece hehe thank you so much!!

the brush above (csp’s felt pen) is what i used for inking that piece (including all the lines on his compression sleeves/kneepads and in his hair)

the brush on the left (csp’s texture pen) is what i used to fill in most of the flat areas of color, and the one on the right (kyle’s dry media - big dry weirdo brush; sorry, i downloaded a big brush set years ago and i can’t find the link anymore) is what i used for any edges, to give color transitions a bit of texture! i think had it 95% opacity instead of the 51% it's set to in this screenshot lol

all of this is in clip studio paint, but i did import the final picture into photoshop and add a noise layer (which is what gives it the speckled/grainy texture)!

I honestly thought the moment when Victor asks what Yuuri wants if he wins against Yurio (im just going to refer to Yuri Piletsky as that hdjsj) then Yuuri says he just wants to eat pork cutlet bowls with Victor was so wholesome. Speaking of , the time when Yurio's grandfather makes pork cutlet pirozhki and then Yurio gives some to Yuuri as an early bday present was so cute too

2. Ahh ok I messaged you about this but seriously the first ep, when they show the parallel between Yuuri performing Victor's routine and Victor himself doing the routine was 💯

3. The time during the press conference thingy on TV where Yuuri talks about how Victor changed his life and his feelings for him are so evident ahhh (the reactions of Yuuri's family were so funny jfjsj poor beans 'so we were just abstract??')

4. THE RINGS. My god. Soft for that whole scene. And when they kiss their rings hfjdjdj (speaking of, I died when Victor kissed Yuuri's skate in one ep)

5. I think the last 2 episodes had so many good moments of growth for all the characters, both on and off the ice when they interacted with each other (Yurio and Otabek!! That was so nice). Even JJ had a nice moment when his fiance was the first to start cheering for him even tho he messed up, that was so sweet

I hope these answers are ok! Sorry I binged the show until like 2 am skdjjs so it's all a mess. Anyway, pretty much all the soft moments between Victor and Yuuri gave me The Feels too 🥺 (also that whistle by Victor when Yuuri first performs Eros hfjdj I die. And that one scene when Victor applies that cream to Yuuri's lips ahhh)
