My self-insert crossover parody retelling/reimagining of The Princess and the Frog (2009), starring ME -- Joshua Sumter and the Ironheart Fairy!

Short summary/premise: An autistic young boy learns a lesson in love when a fateful kiss with a fairy sends him on a mystical yet familiar modern twist adventure, setting off a hilarious chain of events.

Synopsis: Think you know the story of Disney's 'The Princess and the Frog'? Well, think again! Imagine a crossover parody alternate universe retelling of the original 2009 animated classic where an autistic young boy, who once had it all and lived an awesome single life, learns a lesson in love when he meets a fairy, and a fateful kiss sets off a hilarious chain of events that turns things upside down for him.

Set in an alternate universe that reimagines and retells Disney's The Princess and the Frog, young and autistic Joshua Sumter (Me) thinks he's in the groove and on top of the world as he started out his own single life. His hopeless romantic friend Lewis (Meet the Robinsons) read about true love and was hoping Joshua would find his. But he has everything he needed for living his best, yet awesome single life and romance would be the last thing on his mind for now as he makes his own moves, doing his own things, hanging out with friends, all that jazz.

Then, one day, as things seem to be turning around, a weird twist of fate happens when Nadia Van Dyne (Wasp), the relative of the great Hank Pym, comes to town, prompting Lewis to throw a huge, epic party for her. During the party, Joshua slipped away to be alone for a while when suddenly, two shrunk girls appeared, introducing themselves as the REAL Nadia Van Dyne and her friend, the super-smart Riri Williams (Ironheart), who are in quite of a pickle and begged Joshua for help...

On the very day Nadia was to meet Lewis, she and Riri (with Ms. Grunion (Mr. Peabody & Sherman) in tow) came to town in search of fun and adventure until their arrival caught the attention of witty voodoo slick talker Frederique "Freddie" Facilier (Descendants: Wicked World), who puts her scheme of voodoo madness into action by luring the two girls and Ms. Grunion into her voodoo lair, where she turned Riri into a fairy (Iridessa from Disney Fairies) and trapped her and Nadia in a jar while magically changing Ms. Grunion into looking like the spitting image of Nadia. Then, Freddie will sit back and watch the chaos ensues...all part of a plan to take down Lewis's family and steal the family fortune. But Freddie's plan was spoiled when Nadia and Riri (still in fairy form) escaped and met up with Joshua, forming an unlikely alliance and a strange allegiance that'll undercut her plans.

Soon, a fateful kiss with a fairy has change everything in Joshua's life, making him a victim of circumstance and turning it into a familiar modern twist. Not only that, but Riri's and Nadia’s chance to get back home and outwit Freddie Facilier's plans rest on his shoulders.

Lost, alone, far away from home, and having a hard time cooperating, Joshua is convinced by Nadia to help them while being forced to bond with Riri. Now finding a way home will be the groovy adventure than they ever imagined as they must overcome their differences to deal with hair-raising dangers, crazy and wild comic predicaments, and even each other until they learn some valuable life lessons, including the meaning of trust and true love while seeking the magnificent Merlin (The Sword in the Stone) to undo the spell. While having difficulties and obstacles in their lives, they are being by joined by Kamala Khan, Doreen Green with Tippy Toe the Squirrel, Flik, and Jiminy Cricket...and an unlikely, budding romance was bloomed between Joshua and Riri along the way.

But Freddie Facilier had plans of her own as she's in hot pursuit on their trail to further her purposes with the help of a few demonic beings in the form of an angry army of shadows and the epic powers that are beyond manipulation of both magic and mind.

Ultimately, Joshua and Riri's love for each other made them realize that they must get through the toughest of times...all part of growing up, putting things right, and learning the true meaning of their bond.

“HEY! WHERE THE FUCK ARE…?!”

“Here hyung!”

Yoongi jumped as he nearly smacked face first into Jungkook, who had appeared in the doorway at the same second the rapper had moved towards it. 

Yoongi gasped, one hand clutching his racing heart, the other pressing against Jungkook’s arm. “Sorry, Kook. I didn’t realize you were right there.”

“It’s okay. It’s not like you can see through walls.” The papers Yoongi was looking for sat in Jungkook’s hand. He waved them with a tiny smile. But as the younger man held the papers out to the rapper, Yoongi eyed him suspiciously. 

“You okay, bud? Your voice is sounding a little…” Yoongi gestured towards his own throat, as if to give clarity on his meaning. 

Jungkook shrugged. “I feel fine.” He smiled, despite the undeniable croak in his voice. “I think I might’ve overdid it a bit at Inkigayo yesterday.”

“You sure?” Jungkook nodded. Yoongi narrowed his eyes. Jungkook’s smile brigthened. The producer began to fear that the youngest had become impervious to his glare. He’d have to fix that. 

“You sound like you’re catching a cold,” Jimin spoke up from the kitchen table around a mouthful of cereal, catching both men in the doorway off guard. “Your voice is usually the first to go.” It was Jungkook’s turn to glare, crossing his arms over his chest in a huff while Yoongi’s eyes volleyed back and forth between the two.  

“Hate to say it, but Jiminie’s right,” Hoseok said, leaning back against the kitchen counter. 

Jungkook rolled his eyes as he stepped past Yoongi into the kitchen. “I promise you, I’m not sick. My throat doesn’t even hurt. I’m just…” He slumped into a chair, touching gentle fingers to his neck, “…croaky.” 

Namjoon smacked his hands on the counter. “How many times have I told you to stop eating frogs?!” Hoseok and Taehyung snorted at the terrible joke, Jimin shaking his head, and Yoongi rolling his eyes. 

Jungkook giggled. “Sorry, hyung, you know I’m a terrible listener when it comes to consuming small amphibians…”

“Consuming small amphibians!” Hoseok whispered to himself, trying and failing not to laugh. 

“Okay, please stop talking, it’s hurting my brain.” Taehyung ruffled Jungkook’s hair as he passed his chair. Jungkook swatted at him. Taehyung stuck his tongue out in reply. 

“Also, I can guarantee that the less you talk now, the less painful the sore throat will be later on,” Yoongi added from the doorway. Jimin added a meaningful look in the maknae’s direction. 

Jungkook waved him off, waved all of them off with a gravelly laugh. “You all worry way too much.”

“Contrary to your words of foolish bravado this morning, I would say that we worry the proper amount,” Jimin said, leaning dangerously close to Jungkook’s ear. The maknae swatted at him, but Jimin had scurried back just in time, expecting an attack. 

“You are being so dramatic,” Jungkook rasped, shaking his head as he slumped back in his chair. Sure, by early afternoon, it was obvious to all of them that Jungkook had, indeed, come down with a cold. And sure, each new symptom annoyed him throughout practice. 

But, in Jungkook’s humble opinion, it wasn’t anything crazy. Yeah, his throat hurt, but that’s what cough drops were for. Yeah, he was congested, but it was just a stuffy nose rather than concrete settling in his sinuses. This was child’s play. Jungkook had performed on stage in negative degree weather in very little clothes with a high fever and nothing in his stomach. He’d collapsed and been confined to bed from flus and migraines after stages. 

This was nothing even remotely close to any of those times. And yet his hyungs were acting like every sneeze was the end of the world. Which was why their Jungkookie was currently pouting at the kitchen table, already over their doting.

Hoseok gasped, hand clutching his chest. “We are not dramatic!” 

“Then what’s with all the puppy eyes?” Jungkook glared specifically at Taehyung, who was definitely giving him the pitying puppy look. 

Called out, Taehyung pouted harder. “How can you say that? You’re ill!”

Jungkook rolled his eyes. “I have a sore throat and a runny nose. I’m fine.” It did not help his case that he snapped forward, catching a throat-ripping sneeze in his sleeve immediately following his statement. He groaned, rubbing at his neck. 

“Poor thing.” Seokjin pressed a kiss to the top of Jungkook’s head as a mug of tea thumped on the table in front of the maknae. “This will help your throat.”

“What’s in it?” Jungkook rasped, sniffling as he leaned skeptically towards the steaming mug. 

“Tea, silly.”

“Yeah but like… what’s in it?” His eyes were narrowed when his head peeked over his shoulder up at the eldest. 

Seokjin sighed. “Herbal tea with honey and lemon. I did not drug you, Kookie. Not this time.” Jungkook did not look convinced. Seokjin shrugged. “Taste it! You’ll see!”

“How can he see if he’s supposed to be tasting?” Jimin asked, unable to keep the grin off his face. Seokjin turned his attention on him, snapping at the vocalist as Jimin laughed. Jungkook grabbed the mug, wrapping his hands around the warm ceramic. He took a careful sip, the sweet honey and sour lemon mixing wonderfully on his tongue. He smiled, not particularly caring that he could feel several sets of eyes watching him.

I saw this post and automatically thought of you. They are 100% correct.

Absolutely! You’re correct. Hey, @the-sage-libriomancer , I saw Wish and you’re still correct. The idea of having a star that is a higher power (Evangeline) and then having a character who demonstrates absolute faith in that higher power (Ray) and winds up teaching that same faith to both self-centered-Naveen and self-reliant Tiana? So very Disney.

Sometimes Disney’s Renaissance-era princesses were the Faithful Characters of their own story—Ariel had faith in Eric and taught that same faith to her father, Jasmine (and Genie) had faith in the Truth and taught that faith to Aladdin and the Sultan, etc. And that’s wonderful. Cinderella and Snow White are the Faithful Characters in their own stories, too, so it’s not like that isn’t a Classic Disney idea.

But Princess and the Frog doesn’t do that. It has the princess be the one who needs to learn to have faith. And the prince! That’s much more like dear old Pinocchio. What Jiminy Cricket and Geopetto are to Pinocchio, Ray is to Louis, Naveen, and Tiana. I mean, how wonderful a tribute to Disney, to have the main character be afraid of relying in something higher, valuing love, and trusting only whatever she can accomplish on her own…

…to have her go from that to being willing to give up what she wanted? To value love, plain old love, over career, personal goals, dreams? To change her dream and admit when she was wrong? And finally, to sacrifice herself in order to do what’s right?

Why, that’s Pinocchio. That’s Mr. Banks from Mary Poppins. That’s Alice from Alice in Wonderland. That’s Disney!

Wish 2023 could never.

Oh, which guard got into the potions now... Clyde? It has to be Clyde. She gently shakes the frog. Yep. That's Clyde. "Well... Worker's comp."

A frog! He knows the perfect hiding place for him. He lifts his hat and starts beckoning the frog to jump onto his wooden noggin. "Wait until Jiminy gets a load of this!" For a brief moment, there's no thoughts in that pine brain of his. No. Of course the frog won't be hungry for Cricket Ala King. Never.

At this rate, they're going to have to build themselves a little habitat! "We'll name him George. Now this one is going to be a frog of science!"

He pauses, horrified. "I know what you humans do to frogs! We don't do those barbaric practices. We have highly advanced x-ray machines. Dissections... Pffft. Next you'll tell me you think probing is a real thing."

Fancy that. A real hop toad- well, hop frog. This one probably needs some water. She picks it up and... "...I'm hiding this one in Flora's sock drawer. Oh, she could use with a bit of a reminder that we're one with nature... Just a teensy reminder."

Takeaway: Wow, I really took out my frustration with later KH titles. Aside from XIII Days (which adds 100 Acre Wood and the dummied out Pinocchio world), 0.1 (which adds the dummied out Jungle Book world and the FM-exclusive Monstro fight), KH3D (only 11), and PHP (same amount as the first KH), all the post-KH Trinity titles get an increase in Disney IP that gets pulled into them. Most tellingly is how my KH4 would contain the most Disney in it (if we're not counting all the UX Medal-esque cameos in TML), as opposed to the real KH4 in the works being Part 1 of Nomura's mad, desperate Final Fantasy Versus XIII do-over. Man, do I ever wish we'd gotten KH like this!
