Monster Mango Loco

Photo taken 7th September 2024 Didn't take long for Monster to show up, extremely good drink from a very well known name but at £1.90 at ASDA that's a little steep imho, but it was somewhat made up by their any 3 for 2 deal. I'm a really big fan of Monster's Juiced line and have had Mango Loco many times, but a chilled can of it will never not hit the spot. Going to try to get a Furocity Mango Mayhem soon so Fury can continue to disappoint me. 10/10

My 5 fave fics that I wrote.

You know I’m a big supporter of self love 😏.

I have to say O Night Divine would have been on this list, but I don’t think of it as a fic anymore because it’s so much more. Because of that, my 5 faves are pretty easy to come up with. Here we goooooo….

5. The Silver of Moonlight from the Sun, Moon, and Truth series

This story was so natural to write. The series might be some of the sexiest stuff I’ve written (for whatever that’s worth). The main reason it’s such a fave for me is because multiple people shared with me how it helped them open their minds about their sexuality and accept proudly who they are. Fucking incredible.

4. A Thousand Ships from the Tales of James Fraser series

I sat with this idea for 6 months before I started writing it. I laughed myself to tears coming up with the idea, and I laughed typing every fucking word. If I’ve done anything brilliant in my life, it execute this concept.

3. Paved With Yellow Stones

I can’t begin to describe the effort that went into this story. The planning of every minute detail. The intricate plot that could not be deviated from once it was started. It was not easy, and it took a few years of learning to plan and execute complex plot to write something like this. So, yeah, I’m proud of this baby.

2. Like Petals Falling

This story was meant to be a quick and simple palate cleanser after writing a few dark, heavy plots in other fics. How did it turn into something so deeply personal? Well, THE POETRY. Poetry is, at its essence, DEEP and MEANINGFUL. I’ve poured so much of myself into this story in a way I had never done so with any fic before. 🥹

1. Journey of a Thousand Kisses and the 1000 Kisses series.

The intention with this story was to combine my favorite things: obsessively in love Frasers, fucking in the Highlands like rabbits, and building a perfect, happy life. I wanted to write a joyful story that did not require a ton of devastation as the main point of the plot. That’s not an easy feat as a writer. It’s beat into our heads that conflict is vital to good storytelling, and I was intentionally removing so much of that conflict, focusing more on the dynamic between them and resolving a mystery that the readers didn’t even know existed until 6/7 of the way through the story! I wanted people to think it was pure fluff, but then be blindsided by so much more. Then I wanted to do it again with 6 more stories in this universe. I love this series the most, and I love its beginning more than anything.

This year started off as one of the best with the birth of our second daughter, Whilma, but of course, the year descended into chaos. But without the strength and assurance of our marriage, I would not have made it through. Rafey, I love you and can't wait for what the future holds.

Furocity Mango Mayhem

Photo taken 9th September 2024 It's actually good but it's just a worse Monster Mango Loco in design, name and taste, and despite Mango Loco being based off of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) I think Mango Mayhem is just trying to copy Monster and the success of Loco, of course this is just speculation and I could be wrong but with how little care has gone into every other Furocity drink I really doubt this would be made from a good place. Just like Watermelon Twist this one is £1 so a good budget drink but I'd still rather just pay an extra 80p-90p and get a Mango Loco. Fury did not fail to disappoint so at least he's consistent. 6.5/10

Wednesday 100: A Diagnosis

(Something a little different for this week: set in the “When the World is Free” universe, where JJC’s Faith has Cerebral Palsy.)

The mood was solemn as three parents sat, watching their baby, after a visit to the pediatrician.

John had held both spouses back from pommeling the doctor when he handed them pamphlets for institutions.

Jamie didn’t give a bloody fuck how “difficult” their life would be with Faith’s needs. She was theirs, their miracle child. He’d do everything in his power to see that she was given every opportunity a healthy child would see, no matter the cost.

He’d already changed the world, however minutely, for himself and his spouses. He vowed to do it again for his disabled daughter.

Holy shit. Okay so so:

Jeffrey Jerome Cohen in his Seven Theses states that “the monster most often arises to enforce the laws of exogamy, both the incest taboo…and the decrees against interracial sexual mingling…usually in the service of some notion of group “purity”.

And I’ve been thinking a long time about the intersection of racial fetishization and monstrosity and the various ways many monsters are both hypersexualized and racialized in a way to further dehumanize. And it immediately made me think of the werewolves in twilight and how they are constantly called “dirty”, “smelly”, “dogs”, etc by the Cullens who want to keep the werewolves away from Bella because they are “too dangerous”. We’ve always known that the portrayal of the indigenous in twilight was very racist, but Meyer’s werewolves quite literally embody Meyer’s anxieties and obsession surrounding miscegenation.

To nail home this point JJC says: “Feminine and cultural others are monstrous enough by themselves in patriarchal society, but when they threaten to mingle, the entire economy of desire comes under attack.”

And this is where it’s REALLY pertinent because the monstrous being in the story isn’t the Cullens but Bella’s desires!! Bella’s attraction to the wolves and her love for the tribe is something that the very white very bourgeois Cullens cannot fucking stand!! Edward wishes to control Bella’s sexuality and relegate it into a safe structure (Heterosexuality as a Regime ™️)

As for the actual ask, 1) children actually don’t have a sixth sense for bad people, that’s just a myth folks repeat when they wanna feel superior about a baby that doesn’t know them not bursting into tears at the sight of them, and 2) A-Yuan is a fictional character that can do whatever the narrative needs him to do to make a point. In this case, he hugs Jiang Cheng’s leg so that we get the opportunity to see exactly how rotten he is that he would see a “lovable” child but “have no love in his heart,” juxtaposed with Lan Wangji who also has the same toddler attach to him and feels so hurt by his distress that he buys him a bunch of toys.
