What sparked your interest in Geiko? And how did you form relationships with them? If you don't mind sharing :)
I've been interested in various aspects of Japanese culture since Sailor Moon was aired in German TV in the mid 90s and first came across Geiko in the early 2000s (a crappy magazine article about a photo book by Jodi Cobb, it portrayed Geisha as miserable slaves of their job and the photos were boring as well). Around 2010, while hanging around on tumblr, I came across a picture of Gion Kobu Maiko Ayano, decided to check out the origin blog (don't remember which one) and found the contents to be much more interesting than the magazine article mentioned earlier ;) (colours, seasonal changes in appearance, names, architecture, etc etc) yeah and almost 15 years later, here we are...
As for relationships with them, since I don't speak Japanese, direct interaction is limited. But a lot of them are active on various social media and sometimes reply if you ask them something in the comments, which is mostly helpful in acquiring new knowledge! :D

National Geographic I grandi fotografi
Leah Bendavid-Val
White Star, Vercelli 2006, 336 pagine, 28x31cm, ISBN 8 022 64 734240
euro 30,00
email if you want to buy [email protected]
