Okay, guys, I have to be so honest, the cyborg Jon stuff is not actually out of nowhere if you've been paying attention to the themes and ideas present in Jon's story. Actually, something to this affect has been hinted and foreshadowed all the way back in Supersons.
Jon's story, fundamentally, has always been about agency, and how being the son of a public figure like Superman hinders his ability to self-determinate. It is an idea that is present in every story, yes, every single one, starting from his debut as a character.
The cyborg stuff isn't meant to be a replacement of past traumas- it is an evolution, the thesis of what all the things he's been through have been leading up to. It is the ultimate culmination of everything Jon has been struggling with his whole life- being seen as nothing more but a tool that can be exploited.
Clark and Lois robbed Jon of knowledge about who he was for a large portion of his childhood (1). Manchester Black tried to use Jon as a weapon against his father, actively possessing him in order to do it, explicitly against Jon's wishes and opinions (2). Kid Amazo wanted to use Jon as a flesh puppet, a new healthy body that he could take over (3). Ultraman robbed years of his life and literally confined him in a place where he, literally and metaphorically, had no power. Jor El and Jon had a whole conversation about fate vs. free will in the age up arc (4). The entire central conflict of Son of Kal El was Jon fighting against a capitalist dictator who was trafficking marginalized people, altering and taking over their bodies for profit (5). Adventures of Superman Jon Kent has Jon going up against a version of his father thats a dictator, a man who has (in the words of the text) made the whole world a prison (6). In all of these situations, Jon's put in these positions specifically because he is the son of Superman, and he will forever be defined by it against his will. It is commentary on what it means to be the child of a hero, and it is an exploration of legacy that I think is very very interesting.
We've BEEN headed here! It was always going to come to some plotline of this nature. Sure, we couldn't know it'd be specifically this, him getting borged was specifically a surprise, but Mark Waid is an incredibly intelligent writer who knows what he is doing and does not just present events in a story, but ideas. The Speed Force is a love story. Absolute Power is about, well, power. And Jon Kent is fundamentally, at his core, about agency. The robot stuff isn't meant to be strictly literal!
Post Bibliography so you can check that I'm not bullshitting you. I didn't want to go look up panels because I'm laaazy, you can go see for yourself:
Superman: Lois & Clark by Dan Jurgens
Super-sons by Peter J Tomasi
Superman Rebirth by Peter J Tomasi
Superman 2018 by Brian Michael Bendis
Superman: Son of Kal El by Tom Taylor
Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent by Tom Taylor

2023 fanfic review ✨
Meant to do a wrap up a few days ago but I got busy — so I'm doing it today! Here's a big long list of fics I read and enjoyed in 2023 (not all were published in 2023, but several were!). Ratings may vary, so please read the tags!
▷ Ask an Exec by shinyopals — (rated T, complete, 6/6) A series of posts to a workplace management advice form made by a particularly strange poster. This one was so fun to read along with, and Opal always nails it with the unique storytelling methods.
▷ And We Are Full of Stories to be Told by saintbleeding — (rated T, oneshot) a meeting somewhere else. Just...just read it. You'll like it, I promise.
▷ Particular by aza — (rated G, oneshot) Jon doesn't like anyone, but sometimes he likes this one. I love a good ace Jon fic.
▷ Stay Here Under My Tail by ravenxavier — (rated M, oneshot) after Jon's statement habits are discovered, him and Daisy take a ride. I love this fic's depiction of Jon and Daisy's relationship, with just the right amount of s4 anxiety.
▷ The Wounded and the Blessed by hihereami — (rated T, oneshot) an au set in the 1950s where a priest makes friends with a very lonely doctor. Y'all, the yearning in this fic...... literally left me staring at a wall for hours after finishing. A must read.
▷ Strange Manner by inkfingers_mcgee — (rated T, complete, 17/17) needing money, Martin signs up for a dubious app for blood donors and meets a very particular vampire in the process. Also kept up with this fic as it was coming out and had so much fun being tugged along for the ride. A great universe and a great lot of fun!
▷ A Measure Outside the Lines by rend_herring — (rated E, oneshot) after fleeing to Scotland, Jon and Martin navigate their post-Lonely relationship. I know there's a million safehouse fics out there, but this one is just...so sweet... There are so many lines I want to quote but I'd just end up quoting the whole fic haha.
▷ It Blooms by godshaper — (rated M, oneshot) Martin meets a mysterious stranger the day before his wedding. Fae au!! This one has a really fun universe and a deliciously excellent fast burn.
▷ On the Factual Particulars of the Death of Mrs. Blackwood by saintbleeding — (rated T, ongoing, 5/?) primarily sourced accounts from one Mr. Martin Blackwood regarding his new job at The Magnus Archives. This is a really fun victorian au that really nails the style and character voices.
▷ Sun in an Empty Room by transjon — (rated T, oneshot) the in between after the apocalypse. I love a romantic bad-ish end fic, and this one is very fun.
▷ Communion Past the Need of Speech by pieandsouffle — (rated G, oneshot) a hologram and a former borg drone have a lunch date. Star Trek au anyone?? Star Trek au.
▷ Gertrude is Still Around by occudo — (rated T, series) an au where Gertrude is still archivist and the archival crew members are her assistants. This one is technically a comic series but I'm putting it on this because it's my rec list and I can do what I want okay!!!!!!

My wonderful amazing sister @whirligig-girl drew me this JonDami star trek au fan art in the art style of lower decks!! I was so happy when I saw it that I hurt my throat making happy noises.
Lore under the cut
Look at the details, Damian is an ex-borg so in addition to the scars I do that she replicated, he has scar tissue around the implant and three dots where wires used to be, and the uniform replicates the mostly black with red at the top of the new Robin uniform! Also look at Jon's freckles.
Jon's TNG uniform shows more blue but I love his cape and sash, it's similar to how Worf wears a sash with his uniform because he's klingon.
In this au my sister made, Jon serves aboard a galaxy class starship that travels all over the nearby parts of the galaxy similar to how despite being based in metropolis the supers help the whole world very regularly. Damian is serving on a starbase near a crime ridden planet that has recently joined the federation and needs help adjusting (maybe Tasha Yar's planet). Which is like how he's mostly in Gotham all the time.
So in this au his trauma is that he was abducted and integrated into the Borg instead of being trained by the league, so he retains a lot of knowledge that they amassed and had most of the implants removed but has to have that implant and the nanobots in his bloodstream to live. He would have been rescued by a starship which is probably how he met Jon, he would've been very reserved and deeply lonely as a recently rescued child and Jon would've befriended him.
The Borg are a hive mind that try to assimilate everyone and all their tech.
Damian's implant follows the shape of his Robin mask, and he has more implants we can't see such as his metal spine, implants on the hands, and implants inside the body. Also they're both ensigns :)
I really love this au!! I might write a story for it. Aren't they so cute?

You said that you don’t like Jonerys, but do you see it happening in the books? Do you see them actually falling in love?
there is nothing about their personalities that has ever lead me to believe they’d be capable of tolerating each other for more than 10 minutes before a slap fight started. nor do i think jon will be amenable to making any more alliances with targaryens after aegon vi dies, especially with the North in such peril due to the others. that + sansa’s distrust of The Great Game & the people who play it + arya spending half her storyline in a city that hated valyria & it’s legacy of slavery + bran telling br he can take his borg hivemind and shove it all leads me to believe that the starks are gonna be petty at best & actively hostile to the iron throne at worst by the time dany lands.
and by the time dany lands…we’ll have the burning in vaes dothrak, which is likely to be a huge moral turning point for her bc as george said, her being unburnt was a once in a lifetime magic event. she’s likely ordering drogon to burn the khals which is so much different - and more villainous! - than just lighting a torch & watching the place go up in flame. we’ll have “to go west you must go east” which is going to involve her sacking a city with the dothraki. we’ll have the battle of fire in meereen & a team up with a greyjoy which just spells disaster. then she lands in westeros with an army made up of dothraki screamers, unsullied slaves, and headed by jorah fucking mormont and a greyjoy. i’m not even sure when she has the time to meet jon let alone get dicked down by him!
(part of my “snowspear is real” trutherism is that i think dany in the show was given like half of aegon vi’s plot. considering arianne is going to meet them at storm’s end, which is a hop, skip, and jump away from dragonstone, it makes way more sense to me that the main targ the starklings would be dealing with is aegon. i also think that jon finding out he’s lyanna & rhaegar’s as he’s dealing with rhaegar’s trueborn son & has completely thrown his lot in with the north is gonna hit way more emotionally than jon finding out he fucked his aunt. george does a lot with romance, this is true, but the main relationships in this series? they’re siblings! they’re parents & children! cersei & robert are haunted by the ghost of lyanna but lyanna has always been a stand in for robert’s love for NED. cat & ned’s relationship is doomed before it even starts by LYANNA and JON, not by a former lover! all three lannister kids wonder how their lives would have turned out if their mother had lived!! it’s about ~these ties that bind us~ it’s about the human heart in conflict with itself! i just don’t see how you pass up two unknown half brothers meeting & clashing & then finding out they’re related in favor of…a very predictable, very boring romance between your fire & ice coded mains).
tldr i still generally feel no bc i’ve never thought they’d get along very well, plus there’s no time, but i’m pretty ready to eat my words on that one and cringe my way through a sex scene between them.

I know that at least two Jellylorums were also Christines in "Phantom" (Marni Raab and Sara Jean Ford)--would you happen to know who some of the others were?
Are you looking specifically for Jellylorums that were previously Christines, or more like the general Phantom - CATS or CATS - Phantom pipeline? I can give you a decent list of both, since we'd be atom smashing two hyperfixations together.
Format: NAME OF PERFORMER - Role in Phantom (Role in Cats)
Sorted by part played in PotO - I won't be naming all locations of productions these individuals were in for the sake of some kind of brevity. Since you asked mainly for Jellylorums who have been Christine, I have taken the liberty to BOLD them for easy reference.

Astrid Meland: Marius Borg Høiby did the only right thing
He is surprisingly honest in his attempt to clean up. For him, it's about being forgiven. By his closest ones.
Tumblr media
Marius at Princess Ingrid Alexandra's 18th birthday gala in 2022. Photo: Håkon Mosvold Larsen / NTB
The last week and a half must have been like sitting on a downward roller coaster for Marius Borg Høiby (27).
Last Sunday, he was arrested for violence against a woman. Since then, the spreading of rumours has subsided.
Some of the rumours turned out to be true. The woman was hurt. The apartment was destroyed. The charge was expanded.
The only question was when and how the concession would come.
Because the people around him obviously knew. But it is only he who can [admit to] this.
Tumblr media
Photo: Lise Åserud / NTB
Borg Høiby chose a written message which was first sent to NRK.
Here, he sensationally lies down flat. The 27-year-old admits that he was violent and broke things in the apartment. He apologises and, at the same time, is open about really big problems.
The 27-year-old talks about drug abuse and previous treatment for addiction; he specifically mentions cocaine and, at the same time, various psychological problems throughout his life, including growing up.
It makes an impact.
It's hard not to sympathize with a man in trouble.
At the same time, he is wisely careful to mention the real victim in the case: the woman who has been subjected to the violence and subsequent tremendous pressure.
And perhaps it is the woman he is most concerned about being forgiven by. In any case, she is the one he highlights in the message.
It is possible to object that every word in the message has been chosen carefully. And that Borg Høiby does not say more than what would have come out anyway.
The police took extended blood samples from him. Drug abuse would have become known. It is better for him to talk about the problematic things himself.
Everything indicates that he has now acquired PR help. His lawyer coordinated the message to NRK and stated that this was also an admission of criminal guilt.
Tumblr media
Photo: Jerry Lampen / Reuters
[...] A person with such a high profile needs crisis help in such a situation.
The advice PR people give is often what you do not want: to tell the truth and not hide anything.
It's embarrassing and difficult.
But now he has done it. And to the extent that he cares about regaining the sympathy of the Norwegian people, it can probably work.
Nor would he have needed to say as much as he actually does. He is open about the fact that he has tried but has not been successful in drug treatment so far.
Tumblr media
Photo: Jon Eeg / NTB
The tragic thing about drug abuse is that many end up choosing drugs in front of family and friends. This is how bridges are burned, and it becomes more challenging to get out of the abuse. The problems loom, and you sink deeper into it.
When there is violence in the picture, it is even more difficult to build trust again.
A start is to admit one's mistakes and one's darkest side.
It must cost. Especially when the whole of Norway follows along.
Borg Høiby's message is that change is possible and that he is taking this seriously.
And unlike most people who struggle with mental health problems, addiction and anger, he has every opportunity to get the best help there is.
That he lay flat was probably the best thing for everyone in a difficult situation. A family in crisis may face a few slightly less chaotic days.
Translation and editing for clarity was done by me of an opinion piece by Astrid Meland for Verdens Gang (VG), published on Aug. 14, 2024, at 17:28, and updated the same day at 17:40.

i will burn with a light of my own - notes
Duncan’s prophecy is in three parts:
Moonlight shall be your shield and dawn shall be your sword - refers to Sansa appearing like Talyah/the Mother Rhoyne with the help of moonlight to Lady Zara Wyl, and then how she used the changing light of dawn to appear like Talyah/the Mother Rhoyne to Lord Wyl, Arianne, and the people in the courtyard.
From the eldest shall come the oldest - Jon is the eldest Stark child of the new generation, and he achieves the oldest skill of the Starks, wolfsinging.
The only answer for death can never be death - when Sansa asks the dragon to stop slavery and it offers to burn Meereen and all of Slaver’s Bay to the ground.
The tracts of wood for Castle Wyl’s surrounding walls are made of pine, primarily as a shout-out to my favorite estuary in SoCal, Torrey Pines.
Prince Lewyn really did have a paramour despite being a Kingsguard, which has been living rent-free in my brain since I read Arys’ chapter in AFFC. Not that Sansa knew this, of course, but there should totes be some random weedy looking folks popping out of nowhere to claim Martell blood is what I’m saying ;)
“Grief is a river which carries me along, but I am the river, too,” whispers Zara. “Hate is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger. Rage is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire.” - This line is adapted from the Jorge Luis Borges essay, “A New Refutation of Time,” which goes “Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which sweeps me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.”
Druselka was Nymeria of Ny Sar’s companion, a priestess of the Mother Rhoyne who accompanied Nymeria on her journey from the Rhoyne when the Valyrians invaded. She claimed to have heard the Mother Rhoyne calling her children home and led her followers back to the Rhoyne, where the Valyrians enslaved them. In this story, her prophecy was a ruse designed by Nymeria to ensure those that followed her to Westeros would not be without a choice (to return home).
The names of the Wyl sisters (Talyah, Zara, and Mariah) are riffs on Hebrew names, though Mariah is notably also used as a Martell name.
The four Sand Snakes they meet in the desert are Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, and Elia.
Sulphurous rivers, as far as I can tell, do not exist on Earth, though there is a “Sulphur River” in Texas; sulfur water, on the other hand, does exist, and often results in a) a very strong smell and b) water on fire. So that’s why the Brimstone burns when dragonfire touches it.
Blue fire is usually considered the hottest color, but purple fire would match the eyes of the Targaryens, wouldn’t it?
Fire turns sand to glass if it’s hot enough. The hills of Meereen have copper in them, which is why they form “a crunchy, icy glass that gleams a blue even brighter than the sky.” Were the glass that formed near the Hellholt to be described, due to the sulphur contamination, it would have been a deep, amber color.
“I will live under it for the rest of the days of my life. And if I falter… then death shall be my reward, as it has been for all the rest of my kin.” - A riff on JRRT’s Silm line, “His valour was as a fire yet steadfast as the hills of stone; wise he was and skilled in voice and hand; troth and justice he loved and bore goodwill to all, both Elves and Men, hating Morgoth only; he sought not his own, neither power nor glory, and death was his reward.”
“You question where you can find a beach without waves,” says the old dragon, “but the truth at the heart of this world is that there are no eyes that cannot dream.” - Taken from the Telugu song “Nee Prashnalu Neeve,” from the movie Kotha Bangara Lokam.

Halfamoon Day 6 - MUSIC [vidrecs]
Below are five fanvid recs. None of these are particularly recent, but they're favorites of mine and I thought I'd share. They're from all over the board, fandom-wise, but all feature some pretty fantastic female characters and were all made by some pretty fantastic vidders.
Title: Raise Hell Vidder:walkthegale Fandom: Jurassic Park movies Music: Raise Hell by Brandi Carlile Summary: Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the earth.
The editing and timing in this is just so well done! The ladies (and the dinosaurs) really shine in this. And, randomly, Brandi Carlile is one of my favorite singer/songwriters.
Title: [VID] Que Sera Sera Vidder:ohvienna Fandom: Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek Picard Music: Que Sera Sera (Cover) by Pink Martini Summary: "Whatever will be, will be…"
This is a wonderful character study of Seven of Nine incorporating her arc from child to Borg to the recent series (s1 of Picard). I think she's one of the most fascinating characters in Star Trek and this vid really showcases her journey.
Title: Back to Avalon Vidder: jetpack_monkey Fandom: League of Their Own (1992) Music: Back to Avalon by Heart Summary: I know I'm going home.
The editing is fantastic and the vid narrative is built so well - the build to the game, the heart-warming moments in the bridge, and the ending with the real-life ball players.
Title: [Vid] This Time's Everything Vidder:odessie Fandom: The X-Files Music: This Time's Everything by Amy Macdonald Summary: Here she goes again. (A Scully vid.)
The editing is incredible and this vid showcases her perseverance so well.
Title: Stayin' Low Vidder:hollywoodgrrl Fandom: Alien movies Music: Stayin' Low! (Bee Gees vs. Lil Jon vs. De La Soul) Summary: Hopin' she can sock it to me one mo' time.
Ellen Ripley is badass. This vid has ALL the swagger and it's one of my all-time favorites. Mind the gore (in case someone hasn't seen the movies? IDK). Vid also contains a lot of quick edits, fast cutting, and light flashes from source material.
