Can we NOT do this?
Tumblr media
Can we NOT do this?
Let's not call people/theories stupid because you don't agree.
The person who wrote this confession doesn't know what happens next in the show (BECAUSE NONE OF US KNOW) so who are they to say what's stupid or wrong? MAN I wish this wasn't anonymous.
And another thing: THIS THEORY IS VALID.
Yes, in his right mind, Mk would never go against Mei and his found family. But as you can SEE, when he fought Azure, MK's sense of reason was gone. (He's the one who messed up his own plan. MK's plan was to trap Azure back in the scroll. But because he WASN'T IN THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND, he kept fighting Azure to the point where he used too much power and couldn't control it anymore). He wasn't JUST angry. He was having fun for the first half of the fight.
As for MK and Mei's relationship, there are tons of parallels between them and Wukong and Macaque. AND the fact Ink Mk said "Your friends will turn on you. Seeing you for the monster you will become." Foreshadowing, people.
TO SUMMARIZE:
Everyone should be allowed to theorize whatever the fuck they want. I was in the Steven Universe fandom and literally 75% of the fandom thought that the theory of Rose being Pink was idiotic. And guess what turned out to be true? Point is: shut the fuck up.

Hmm, I somehow can imagine Macaque in JTTW Stone Egg au eventually asking the Pilgrims with help getting back in Wukong's good graces. Like, it would take a long tike since A) these are Wukong's friends first and foremost and they definitely started off rocky and B) Macaque od stubbornness his own way and would be too prideful to ask for help trying to rizz up his own mate! But I can also see Wukong being the sort of person to continue to push him away even after he's forgiven Macaque and is too scared to let him close despite clearly wanting to apend tolime with him. He is very much acting like a tsundere throughout and has long since gotten to the point where he should have been able to just give an inch but is too pigheaded to.
And by that point the pilgrim will definitely see this and start an intervention now that it's safe to do so. Ao Lie would join in mainly because he wants to make Wukogn happy since he still isn't the most thrilled about Macaque, Baije because he's tired of the flirting, Wujing because he genuinely wants to help, and Tripitaka kinda got dragged onto it
Immediate "Parent Trap" shenannigans ensue!
Tumblr media
Mac goes to the Pilgrims for advice/help after a particualrly bad arguement with Wukong for help regarding how to make it up to him.
Ao Lie is a hopeless romantic, so he'd be the first to jump and help Mac with "re-wooing" Wukong despite his own protective "big-brother" vibe. He ultimately wants Wukong to be happy and reunited with his mate. However, Ao Lie has to be told *not* to take off with both monkeys on his back for a kidnapping/surprise horse-ride date.
Sha Wujing is far smoother, and is the one to organise a quiet area for the two monkeys to have a date/casual alone time together. He's pretty bad at being subtle about it though - he def makes an audible winking sound when he pretends to be busy with something to leave "you two crazy kids" alone.
Zhu Bajie ain't helping. Nope. Nada. Now eat this plate of noodles.
Tumblr media
Bajie does give Mac a decent set of advice regarding how Wukong likely feels after all this time + solid understanding for why they broke up in the first place. He works best as a passive supporter.
It takes Tripitaka a while to agree to help Mac with anything deeper than making sure him and Wukong don't claw eachother apart like cats. He covers his ears and mantras the second Mac brings up the topic of romance.
Even with all this help, Mac is still super stubborn/nervous about showing his most vulnerable side again. Wukong is perplexed by his former mate's stumbling and stand-offishness.
A big confession/confrontation occurs during the Sai Tai Sui chapter - in which Wukong glamours himself into the stolen Queen that the monster lusts after.
Sai Tai Sui gets a but too handsy and Macaque drops any pretense of tsundere-ness and yells; "HEY! HANDS OFF MY MATE!" and mauls the Celestial Beast to the point that Guanyin has to intervene since the beast is technically her pet.
Wukong looks relieved, adoring, and... smug?
Macaque: "Peaches, why did you put yourself in danger like that?! The pig could have turned into the Queen!" Wukong, smug smile: "Juweihuli was right." Macaque: "Huh?" Wukong: "Your mentor was right. She said that you have a terrible jealous streak over me - even when we were apart. The second that monster even looked at me, I knew you wouldn't stand for it." Macaque: "...you went to the Vixen for advice? About me??" Wukong: "Of course! I still have a lot to learn about the Macaque of now compared to the one I knew 500 years ago. I want to get to know you all over again. Sorry if it was a little reckless." Macaque: *heart-eyes and purring sounds* (♡〰♡) (meanwhile...) The Buddha (observing for afar): "I declare this a win for me."
It's not a one-way wooing thats for sure.

LMK VS Legend
Peng:
Tumblr media
The Golden Winged Peng
Korean- King of Bungma (Bungma= Dapeng)
LMK:
Powerful but a coward, we all know their story along with Azure and Tusk. All of them were former Celestials. The three ruled over Camel Ridge and became sworn brothers to Monkey King, Macaque, and Demon Bull King forming the brotherhood. After the "betrayal" of Monkey King they separated the brotherhood the trio stayed together and reunited with Wukong but only to battle and lose. Trapped in the scroll for hundreds of years. Were realized causing havoc to the cosmos. The rest is history For Now.
Tumblr media
JTTW:
A demon born from the Primordial Phoenix, Given a high position in heaven which gave him his ego. He gave himself a humanoid form ate all the residence of the Lion Camel Kingdom ruled it for 500 years and then befriended the Azure Lion and Yellow-Toothed Elephant Demons.
Note: LMK and JTTW had Peng and Azure Switched In JTTW Peng was the leader and Azure the follower. Which of course is switched in the show.
His weapons are a ji and a Flask of Yin and Yang Essence which can suck in unsuspecting victims.
Flask of Yin and Yang Essence: After a while, the victim trapped inside the flask will be reduced to a bloody mash. (The flask was broken during the fight between him and Wukong)
In the book, it was the Buddha who subdued the Peng and returned him to Vulture Peak. He confessed to enjoying his demonic life and eating humans., but was left no choice but to abandon his evil ways and he was redeemed. He then became a protector of Buddhist law. He was later sent to destroy fake scripture without text by the Buddha. He is depicted perched above the Buddha's thrown as a guardian deity.
The Ming dynasty suggests Peng was a guardian of faith who watched over the world from an exalted position at the top of the Buddhas' throne.
Legend:
Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang/ Golden-Winged Great Peng His origins are derived from the Indian bird god Garuda.
Tumblr media
Penig is one of the eight demi gods of Buddhism, he guards Mount Sumeru and Trāyastriṃśa. Pengi is depicted in the JTTW and General Yue Fei, mentioned in Chinese Buddhist literature.
The famous patriot General Yue Fei was believed to be the incarnation of Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang.
A demonic Peng born from The Primordial Phoenix the leader of flying beings. He also has a sister The Peacock Mahamayuri who once tried and failed to consume the Buddha. When he tried to kill her he was stopped and convinced to promote her to his godmother. Which makes the Golden Winged Peng the spiritual uncle of the Buddha. There is a tale of when Nü Tofu the bat spirit listened to the Buddha sermon on the Lotus Sutra at Leiyin temple. The bat spirit accidentally "broke wind" which stained the pure land. Peng snatched the spirit and killed her. For this Buddha exiled Peng to earth. He reincarnated as Yue Fei and the bat spirit reincarnated as Lady Wang. She married Qin Hui and Lady Wang killed Yue Fei in revenge.
Tumblr media
For Backstory On These Two: Qui Hui and Lady Wang were the most hated couple in China for a thousand years. Qui Hui was a politician who gained his status by getting rid of political opponents, framing war heroes and was a sycophant to a foreign emperor. He and his wife both conspired to kill the Great War Hero of the Dynasty Yue Fei. He even becomes a puppet ruler. Qui Hui did not like Yue Fei because he was a great guy loved by all and became very popular even being more popular than the emperor. So Qui Hui had him returned and imprisoned. They torture Yue, but Yue Fei refuses to confess to something he did not do. They had him sentenced to death but in another story, Qui Hui's Wife Lady Wang poisoned Yue Fei. However, Yue Feis' story does not end at his death after a few decades Emperor Zhao Chen absolved Yue Fei and dedicated temples to him. Qui Hui and Lady Wang's betrayal and part in the war heroes' death were made public. In front of Yue Fei's temple, two iron statues of the couple were built for public shaming. People spit, abuse, and flop the statues and they get replaced when damaged they have been replaced 11 times since 1475.
Other Ledgends:
According to the martial arts master Laing Shouyu's book he was a great bird that was the guardian that could get rid of all evil in any area. Not even the MONKEY KING was a match. He was sent to China to defend China from invaders and was reborn as Yue Fei.
Tumblr media
Yue Fei
The Shurangama Mantra: A mantra of Buddhist practice in China, Japan, and Korea, pertains to the Great golden-winged Peng bird, the Garuda it includes all species of birds. The Peng is the king among birds. He feasts on dragons, his being span measures an astounding 4,950 km, and when he flaps his wings the sea waters part to the deepest seabed.
Thoughts:
Peng's history and legends paint him as a far more powerful being than we have seen so far in the show if the writers do take anything from legends MK and the gang are in some serious trouble besides the ten kings. Also, it really is crazy that maybe even in the LMK universe Peng might have some serious power he was the last standing of the Sworn brothers in the final fight but that was mainly due to him running away. Peng does get redemption in the book with the LMK writers it's a 50/50 on the show. Also, love it when a character has a historical reincarnation to do some digging into.

LMK fic prompt AU idea, where demons can form a bond with their partner it happens when two completely love each other and when one confesses to the other opening fully up to them, bonding soul and heart and everything (it’s very powerful and very rare to happen PIF and DBK are one of the only couples people know of who had this happen)...only it takes a while to settle the bonded have to stay close for a while afterwards or the bond will break and that causes immense pain to the person who stayed.
When SWK returns to flower fruit mountain, when Tripitaka dismisses him in JTTW (when he kills the disguised demon) he meets up with Macaque for the first time in 500 years, the reunion ends with them confessing and the bond forming.
When Bajie arrives to retrieve Wukong he leaves because he doesn’t realise, they’ve bonded he thought it had to something they do he didn’t know it happened unconsciously (He never really paid attention when people talked about it only half listening and then running off to fight someone/something) he has no idea what leaving will do.
He told Macaque about the journey and what he’s doing so he’s sure the other will understand that’s how he justifies it truth is he knows he has to go back even if he doesn’t want to leave Macaque again and he doesn’t think he can say goodbye cause seeing him again will break his resolve to leave...so he goes without saying goodbye sure he’ll return after the journey and then he’ll never have to leave again and they can stay together and get married and maybe even form a bond (he has no idea they already have)
Macaque wakes up alone.... and feels the pain of the newly formed bond shattering. SWK is the one breaking it he doesn’t feel anything but Mac does he’s in pain for ages so long.... when the pain settles, he tries to find SWK (Because he wouldn’t leave like that there’s no way he’d break the bond like that no way... then he finds the JTTW group and well...)
Even after LBD SWK has no idea about the bond that formed at all...at least until... one day when MK and Red Son are hanging out MK accidentally zones out when red is talking about some invention and accidentally confesses.... MK’s not a demon and has no idea that a bond forms in that moment... before Red can respond MK freaks out and leaves....
Macaque gets a desperate call from PIF and DBK he shows up and sees Red Son in such a familiar state to himself and can’t believe it because MK is a good kid, MK couldn’t he wouldn’t.... how could he be like SWK in this? He shadow travels and shows up at Pigsy’s while MK is freaking out about how he confessed to Red to everyone... they’re all confused when mac shows up angrier than most have ever seen.
He half destroys the place screaming at MK asking him how? and Why? WHY?... MK is so confused until Mac mentions Red and then freaks out ‘IS RED OK?’ Mac is stunned and only then realises MK didn’t know... he explains and hasn’t even finished before MK is begging him to take him to Red. He does... never seeing SWK sitting behind the counter where he fell when Mac showed up eyes wide realising exactly what happened before.
BOUNS: MK and Red manage to fix the bond, PIF and DBK only not killing MK because they realise he had no idea.... through MK does have to sit through the demon equivalent of the talk after given by DBK and PIF... it’s so awkward.
BONUS FREENODDLESHIPPING: Mac ends up saying he’s really confused how MK didn’t know seeing as Pigsy and Tang are bonded... Pigsy and Tang are both like ‘What?’ because the bond formed but Tang is always there... so he just never left and the bond didn’t breaks and neither fully realised it was there.

Hello there! I hope the month has treated you kindly enough. I don't have much questions right now, but there are a few buzzing in my head:
Why did Wukong tell MK at the start of S2 that he was going on a vacation, instead of maybe just saying that he has some unfinished business, maybe a serious one, that needs attending to now that MK can sort of look after himself? Probably to set the tone into something less alarming but I think if he went with that kind of excuse maybe MK wouldn't feel so resentful about his mentor apparently chilling while away. Or rather why not say that he's going to the Celestial realm and that he may not be available for a while because time runs differently between the two realms?
What effects do you think that being imprisoned inside a mountain has on Wukong instead of being trapped under it like in the OG JTTW book? I mean, both are pretty bad but at least the one in the book gives him fresh air and sunlight instead of complete darkness in the isolation.
Do you think that just like the battle that lead to the Havoc in Heaven 2.0 is different in LMK compared to the original book version, the peach thievery and banquet disruption also has a different story to it than the book one?
How's your writing for SWK and The Reaper series going? If you're having a bit of an inspiration fatigue, take your time to recharge. But are we going to see the White Impermanence's successor in that series though. How would the s4 and its specials' events go?
Have a great week, eat your meals regularly and not too late, take your medication if you have any, and eat your fruits and vegetables!
oh dear, oh honey, you’ve done it now :3 the floodgates are open :) hope you don’t regret it
imma have to answer these by short answer to long, so that first one is definitely placed last
anyway,
How's your writing for SWK and The Reaper series going?
tis marinating my good friend! tis on the slow cooker rn and might be for some more days or weeks depending on my uni stuff and motivation levels T^T but yeah, it’s not abandoned (far from it!) just needs some more mental plotting (ESPECIALLY because I added Xié Líng to the story and kind of want them introduced in the upcoming chapter/installment/part(?))
Are we going to see the White Impermanence's successor in that series though?
so yeah, you will see the White Impermanence’s successor soon! their involvement in the story takes place more in what I have in mind for s4 :3 and I don’t remember what I mentioned about them, but Xié Líng is basically Júhua’s only friend in the underworld (not to mention that the two are basically soulmates no thanks to what they have/will inherit). they aren’t that big of a fan of Sun Wukong but tolerate him bc it’s Júhua’s uncle (a label she only ever confessed to Xié Líng). also, hoping they will help me explained Júhua’s magic a bit more since I now have 2 reapers in this verse :)
and for s4…..no, I shan’t say…….more Diyu and Júhua playing sleuth while MK goes through the horrors
Do you think that just like the battle that lead to the Havoc in Heaven 2.0 is different in LMK compared to the original book version, the peach thievery and banquet disruption also has a different story to it than the book one?
I honestly would not be surprised if that was the case. lmk already differentiates a lot from the book with specific details or chapters (Red Son’s chapter/Samadhi Fire lore, the reason behind Guanyin’s vase, how the JTTW crew met Pigsy, how they met Sandy, LBD’s chapter). so, while the feel of the show sticks with that adventure and high stakes and moral dilema that JTTW had, it also is its own piece of work (which you could argue for many JTTW adaptations tbh since there are sO many and many are very different from each other)
anyway, yeah, I have an inkling that the stolen peach story is not exactly book accurate.
What effects do you think that being imprisoned inside a mountain has on Wukong instead of being trapped under it like in the OG JTTW book?
oh ho ho! what a question 👀
I certainly think being trapped inside the 5 Phases Mt has a different impact than being trapped under it. for one, like you mentioned, book!SWK had the “luxury” of being able to see outside and breathe fresh air. lmk!SWK???? he is in the heart of the mountain. he is seeing nothing but rocks (stalactites and stalagmites), he can hear nothing but the drips of cave water, he can breath nothing but stale and dusty air….for 500 years :)
how do you stay sane in such conditions?
spoiler: you don’t!
you cannot stay sane or impassive to being trapped inside a mountain with nothing but rock and golden chains for 500 years!!! we all remember that clip of a freed swk, right?
Tumblr media
see that? that’s the look of a monkey who’s just been released from a 500 year prison and is ready to tear the world apart just to feel better :)
so how would one stay some-what lucid in this imprisonment? my guess is the man hallucinated the shit out of it. bored of seeing nothing but rock and more rock and even more rock? how about visualizing that Macky returned after your horrible fight and is apologizing for snapping at you. how about believing that you good pals the Brotherhood and you didn’t fail your war with Heaven! how about thinking that the darkness and loud echos of the cave hold more creatures and demons who heard of your downfall and want to finish the job. how about envisioning being back at FFM, Macky and your monkey subjects are so happy to see you and you were actually never imprisoned! how about believing—
listen to me, listen to me: Wukong’s experience of being held inside the mountain, other than being smushed under it, is more psychologically impactful and I bet this monkey could not sleep well after being freed for centuries. Wukong sleeps with a night light still!
Why did Wukong tell MK at the start of S2 that he was going on a vacation, instead of maybe just saying that he has some unfinished business?
short answer: because he’s an idiot
long answer:
Wukong is very used to solving issues on his own. he is aware that MK is human (maybe) and a mortal (now debatable, but at this point, MK believed that and that’s what’s important). he is aware that MK’s an anxious kid and wants to prove himself but also has great power within him. he is very aware that MK still needs to complete his training and isn’t ready for what Wukong is about to embark on (also who Wukong would potentially fight against with no one being none the wiser to).
and, as I stated prior, Wukong is very used to solving issues on his own. he did it in his time before JTTW and even during JTTW because he was the overpowered stone monkey who was FFM’s trump card and the JTTW savior when situations got rough (barely any of the other companions are able to beat off an opponent without Wukong’s help). thus, Wukong is not someone to ask for help or even allow other to be aware that help is needed because he is not used to asking (he only will if push comes to shove and he is out of ideas, which he wasn’t in s2)
however, I’m sure we’re well aware of SWK’s almost allergic reaction to acknowledging help or admitting that something is most definitely wrong! but imma get that statement out of the way so that when I delve into the question, we all have what I said above in mind :)
now, why tell MK he’s going on vacation? why not give a lie that could be a little closer to the truth?
well, as said before, Wukong has an aversion to admitting when there are things going wrong that only he could recognize and probably worries that hinting to MK that Wukong is off to investigate something would possibly entice the kid to join Wukong or ask the monkey a lot of questions about it he isn’t inclined to answer. also, if Wukong were to say he needed to complete something in the celestial realm that would also bring on more questions he would not know how to respond to
thus, vacation! it’s already established that Wukong retired himself from helping duty by s1. and what do retired people do? go on vacation!!!! they hit the road, take the most tourist heavy sites, go radio silent and relax! therefore, if Wuking were to tell MK he is going on vacation, then MK would not ask him too many questions about where he’s going or ask if he can join! I would not be surprised if that’s Wukong’s thought process. this answer is merely the simplest way for Wukong to subtly get rid of the LBD problem while MK protects the city and learns more about how to hone his powers (it’s not like the kid needed Wukong, the kid’s a fast learner and his powers are growing pretty quickly).
‘course this undermines MK’s insecurities of not being good enough and brings to light his abandonment issues and his low self worth but, uh, yeah
in conclusion: Wukong dun fucked up for saying vacation because he’s an idiot

SD and Canon shadowpeach meeting may actually be good for their relationships. SD might learn to communicate better in fear of ending up like Canon, because despite their problems they do love each other; and Canon, I feel this might bring up feelings they've tried to repress (especially if they never actually confessed before jttw)
OOOO I like that thought that they could actually help the other versions of themselves with their issues! But ngl all I imagine is just
sd!shadowpeach & c!shadowpeach, side eyeing each other: man I'm so glad I'm not them

I don't remember where I saw this interpretation for JTTW, but I love the idea that Erlang Shen admired Sun Wukong as much as he was terrified by the way he lived as who he was instead of fitting in. Which is part of why their bond frayed.
And now I'm imagining that Erlang Shen in LMK would be both relieved and unconsciously disappointed in Sun Wukong's changes.
It's great that he's stopped using violence as solution for every problem. But.
Where is the monkey who didn't care what others thought about him? Where's the refreshing bluntness? Where's the mischief?
His (initial?) lack of understanding is ironic.
aaaaaaAAAAAAAA anon there is SO much potential for both emotional and physical conflict between Erlang Shen and Sun Wukong precisely BECAUSE as you pointed out here they seem to (almost) exist in completely opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of their relationship towards heaven.
Now as per usual I need to note that I'm note Chinese, didn't grow up in the culture these figures came from, and am still quite ignorant in terms of the nuances and full picture of the stories concerning both Yang Jiang and the Quitian Dasheng. That said, from what I DO know one of the interesting facets about Erlang Shen is that he, as a demigod, began his story by basically having his existence declared illegal by the Jade Emperor who then had Erlang Shen's human father and older brother killed and his goddess mother Princess Yaoji (the Jade Emperor's own sister) trapped under a mountain in punishment for falling in love with a mortal. Yet in spite of this (and I apologize in advance for not knowing HOW exactly he arrived at this position) Erlang Shen somehow ended up in the position of Heaven's greatest and most loyal warrior god, in charge of enforcing heavenly law and so dedicated to this cause that he was willing to do the exact same thing to his nephew Chen Xiang that was done to him by his own uncle the Jade Emperor (that is, killing Chen Xiang's mortal father & imprisoning his goddess mother, Erlang Shen's own sister Yang Chan, under a mountain).
So given that the war god is THIS dedicated to upholding Heaven's law, you can completely understand why he would be at odds with Sun Wukong, who not only challenged Heaven itself and the Jade Emperor specifically (there's a whole passage dedicated to the Monkey King proclaiming he wouldn't stop his havoc until the Jade Emperor was deposed and he was made the ruler of Heaven instead). And yet as you indicated there is a real chance, given his history, that Erlang Shen would hold a grudging admiration, and perhaps even some envy, for this monkey man who he knew as a yaoguai audacious enough to feel he didn't need to change a thing about himself to be a member of Heaven's court, who always spoke his mind, and whose love of his family was always a core motivation for his actions. Sun Wukong was a warlord and a self-confessed murderer many times over, but I honestly can't imagine him ever, EVER intentionally harming a member of his monkey family. Hell, the whole reason he accepted the invitation to Heaven in the first place was to see if he could find a way for all his monkeys to live up there as well, and when he wasn't given the respect he felt he was owed the Monkey King was perfectly happy to leave the splendor of Heaven and go back down to Earth to live there among his family (after wreaking a divine banquet, of course). So yes Sun Wukong is like the opposite of Erlang Shen and they are understandably often presented as natural enemies, but I can definitely imagine the war god being secretly jealous of the monkey king for not just his willingness to fight against a heaven he sees as completely in the wrong (even though doing so cost Sun Wukong close to everything), but for having a loving family who frequently begged him to stay with them (in contrast to Erlang Shen, who's family seems to be either dead, existing in a emperor-soldier dynamic, or not speaking to him).
So if they were to include Erlang Shen in the lego show, I can easily imagine him being as you indicated pretty pleased that Sun Wukong isn't quick to violence any more. As Heaven's supreme soldier he might even be tempted to rub the monkey king's face in his failures ("Well that's what you get for challenging Heaven, dumb ape"). But I can also seem it coming as a shock to the war god to interact with a Sun Wukong who has become in many ways the exact opposite of the hypercomptetent and mega-popular warlord that he once was. Like sure his image his everywhere, but that's more related to Sun Wukong as an abstract character rather than Sun Wukong the actual individual. And unlike he was in his pre-Journey life, lego SWK is in many ways completely alone and kind of going out of his way to ensure that he'll remain as such, especially since he seems more than willing to accept and believe that everything bad is indeed his fault and that he needs to hold everyone from a distance because if he doesn't then of course he'll get them hurt. There's not even any monkey yaoguai on Flower-Fruit Mountain, and in Monkie Kid SWK has given 0 indication that he's ever tried to look for them in spite of how much he loved them in JTTW.
So if the Monkey King of Monkie Kid is supposed to be the "tamed" and improved post-Journey version but he's in many ways much more sad and lonely and even "dumber" than he used to be, well, I can see that being very discomfiting to Erlang Shen. On one hand it might just confirm in his mind all over again that going against Heaven's will is always a very bad thing (as seen in Exhibit A 'Everyone Understandably Hates Me and Every Decision I Make Is A Bad One' Sun Wukong) but on the other hand...does that mean that all that pain, all that suffering, all that violently enforced obedience to the will of others is completely good? Is the agony of failing and losing and failing and losing time after time again all for a greater purpose? Is squeezing yourself into behaviors where you never even think to speak your true mind or even try to make connections outside of a mandated circle always for the best, given these results?
Maybe seeing what the monkey king has become would make Erlang Shen start wondering if he himself is in some ways as broken as the former Quitian Dasheng.

Scorpion Queen's so perfect I adore her so much, yes Seer simp! SIMP TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT!!!
~💮
I have a small note somewhere that during the interaction, Wukong is kinda just… confused.
Omg,,, wait I’m getting big brain moment,,,
He’s more impulsive during JTTW so like— Okay…
Seer is obviously complimenting and showering Scorpion Queen with positive affection. Bc she 100% deserves it. Before making a comment like “man if only I could get someone to kneel for me😔”
Then BOOM.
Wukong is at your side and kneeling. Which kind of confuses everyone but you’re fuckin’ shook bc wowowow bitch boy said he’d kneel for no one.
Cue him saying something equivalent to a love confession. 100% forgets abt it when his memories return you’re kind of disappointed.

this week on poetry night, something a little different! Laurence has been getting back into JTTW so we did an extract from chapter 5.
In the middle of the uproar the Great Sage finally arrived, and called: "Make way!"
He pulled out his iron rod; with one shake and then another it was as wide as a bowl and twenty feet long, and he went to it. Of the Nine Luminaries, who dared oppose him? In a moment they were beaten back.
The Nine Luminaries stood among their forces on the road: "You act without regard to life or death, stableboy; you are accused of committing the Ten Evils! First you stole peaches, then you stole liquor, you caused chaos at the festival of the Peaches of Immortality, you stole Laozi's elixir, and you stole heavenly wine just to enjoy yourself. You pile crime on more crime, don't you see that?"
The Great Sage laughed: "The things you've said are true, all true. But now, what are you going to do about it?"
Notes and original text under the cut.
I’ll confess I like translating prose a lot less than I like translating poetry. I have this urge to translate it very literally; the prose I write in English is pretty plain too! Anyway have a couple notes.
one shake and then another - so the original is 幌一幌, apparently meaning curtain one curtain, but for Laurence it recalled another pronunciation of huang, meaning to shake. So, one shake, another shake. I like the rhythm of this! It gives a very certain picture of the motion he’s using. Like he shook it once and it only grew ten feet long and he had to shake it again.
“You act without regard to life or death” - this is a very literal translation of the chengyu 不知死活, generally translated as “being reckless.” But Sun Wukong is constantly disregarding life and death! The literal translation brings to mind like half a dozen incidents immediately and this is only chapter five.
stableboy - okay I’ll admit this one is notable because Anthony Yu bafflingly translated it as BanHorsePlague, which not only is not a cogent English word/phrase but shares nothing except the horse with the original 弼馬溫, which sounds a lot more like a description of putting a blanket on a cold wet horse and feeding it some nice mash. The sneering tone with which the Nine Luminaries talk is so funny! Hey you! Comforter of horses!! Bitch!!
“you pile crime on more crime” - GREAT imagery here. I’ve actually rendered it pretty literally but I can’t stop saying to myself “Stableboy, your pile of crimes does not stop from getting taller!”
“what are you going to do about it?” - agonizingly the original is the extremely pithy “你怎麼?” or “you how?” It has HUGE “what are you going to do about it” energy but Laurence’s translation--”now what?”--is so much snappier. Sometimes Chinese is just a superior language for taunts.

I have a series of questions.
How and why did Mac developed feelings for Yue? What's the story behind it?
And why did it take Wukong that long to confess to Yue? Was he afraid that he'll lose her to Mac or is there something else?
When Yue was joining Wukong on the JTTW, she actually stumbled upon Macaque before they figured out he was the one causing problems.
Her unbiased opinion of him was he was a little mischievous but was fun and they spent some time together, Macaque wasn't used to people just enjoying his company.
Then shit hit the fan and he tried to kill the monk and they all parted ways. But he never forgot the feeling of someone unapologetically liking him.
