I’m in season 5 of Yugioh Duel Monsters and I just finished the KC Grand Prix arc. The one with Zigfried. 

(And oh boy you can tell where all the animation budget went for this season. Because I remember the memory arch looking crisp but the Grand Prix and the Capsule monster arcs look so bad it’s laughable. I’m not mad the memory arch should get all the good animation. It’s just a shock how different it looks from the rest of the season)

But that’s besides the point.

Zigfried

I was thinking about my Yugi raise Jaden au while I watched it and it got me thinking about some little adventures I could have with the Gx cast.

Cause Zigfried hates Kaiba and while his little brother is willing to move on from the rivalry with Kaiba Corp I can’t see Zigfried moving on.

And here’s the thing everyone knows Yugi has a son. And everyone knows Kaiba and Yugi got hitched, making that kid Kaiba’s son to. But Yugi is very serious about Jaden’s privacy and having as normal a childhood as he can and Seto protects his loved ones fiercely so no one knows that son is Jaden right.

But Zigfried is a smart man. Kaiba has a son. Kaiba opens Duel Academy. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that Kaiba’s son will probably attend Duel Academy (its a popular guessing game with the kids trying to guess which of their classmates is the duel prince)

Zigfried still wants to ruin Kaiba Corp and what better way than going after Kaiba’s kid. But he knows Kaiba is protective of his kid. So he needs a way to lure the kid out.

So he hosts his own tournament and invites the duel academies to send their best (there is no way the son of Yugi Mouto and Seto Kaiba is not one of the best) he’s using this to narrow down his search options and then plans to hack into the kid’s files.

Kaiba finds out about this and he can’t stop the academy’s from accepting without looking like he’s taking opportunities from students for “selfish petty reasons” but he can ban Jaden from participating. Jaden’s bumbed but he understands when Seto and Yugi tell him about what Zigfried did the last time.

He loves dueling but he’d like to keep his secret a bit longer, so he ops out. (Now if this is season 4 which is where I would put it it’s easy for him to play off, but anything earlier then that and his friends think he’s dying)

Crowler and Sheppard are freaking out because Jaden is one of the best chances they have for Duel Academy to win and Kaiba has sent out memos to all of his schools talking about giving money to whichever school the winner attends (he doesn’t want Jaden dueling but one of ‘his students’ are winning this tournament or all these schools are disgraces)

Jaden still tags along to watch. He’s just a student cheering on his friends, in actuality he is spying for his Oto-san to see if he can see anything funny going on.

The DM crew is there, Zigfried wants them there when he exposes the duel prince to the world. But they are trying hard to not be around Jaden so they don’t give away his identity.

Since this is post season three you can have Jesse, Jim, and Axel there to represent their schools. Jaden probably hangs out with Jesse. All of his friends are dueling but Jesse knows who he is he can tell Jesse the real reason he’s not dueling in the tournament.

This can lead to some fun shenanigans as Zigfried tries to figure out which duelist is Yugi/Seto’s son while not having any clue Jaden exists since he’s not dueling. You can have him accuse Jesse or Chazz of being the duel prince which has Seto laughing in his face.

This is a rough idea right now. I have to think more on it when I’m not so tired but I think it has potential.

S5 Ep 50: Tristan Hates Horses, I Think

Been a while! Tumblr’s annoying as hell changes to the text editor took a lot of wind out of my sails, ngl. It had some problems they're resolving as they go, but it was really annoying to use and to edit if you write any amount of youknow……words….

And I was talking to a friend about this, and they were like “have you tried writing it in google docs and copy pasting it after?” And I happily realized when you copy paste from google docs, it also copies the PICTURES. This has literally saved hours of my life, y'all. It has turned something that was so frustrating I didn't want to open tumblr again into something that is no longer an obstacle so I can write once more!

So lets travel to Yugi’s brain, where Tristan desperately has to make up for all the work he hasn’t done because he was just a wee tiny bit possessed.

It may be hard to pick up where Tristan is on this picture, and I hope I recorded it somewhere in OBS like 2 months ago when I finished the series because it was such a funny animation, but hot damn this boy has hops.

And  you can see him there on the ground in the bottom left corner, that isn’t a rock, that’s Tristan having toppled a man with his bare hands, a man who had a sword and was sitting on an armored horse.

Can you believe this guy ran for school president? And then lost and humbly became the janitor?

Meanwhile, Joey discovered magic.

Confirmation that duel disks are made out of old tank parts.

Realizing for the first time that magic exists, they decide to peace out.

Back in the real world, Mokuba and Roland don’t know where the hell Seto went. Which is weird, I figured Seto would at least leave a note or a text message or…anything…but apparently even if he did, he just disappeared at some point down in Marik’s old living room.

So Roland and Mokuba decided that in order to find him, they would have to take a massive Boeing 747 to find their lost child.

Some kids have a motorcycle, some kids have a scooter, Mokuba just wants the most boring ass big commercial plane that is meant to sit a couple hundred people in an awkward way. That’s what Mokuba wants.

Just Mokuba things.

My bro who edits these for me wrote in huge ass letters "ROLAND SIGHTING" While saying "ROLAND ROLAND ROLAND" so I want y'all to know how much we appreciate a good Roland in this house.

Speaking of, I know it's like season 5 but...who is the other guy? He wears funny sunglasses but I have never heard his name, not once.

But this is when the plane was filled with heavenly light.

They begin to see the fight happening between Seto Kaiba (the OG Seto, the one that is cool and isn’t depressed because his not-wife died) and Bakura (who is now Zorc). Don’t ask me how the time stuff works, and why we see it now of all the times in human history, and right over Egypt in the sky. Don’t ask me why.

I assume it’s time compression shenanigans, just like FF8, so maybe it’s just every moment in time is able to see this UFO in the sky, but overall, it’s here because it looks cool. The fact that this right here is actually not a physical place, but is actually a figment of Yugi’s imagination shaped by Pharaoh’s botchy memories--is neither here nor there. Instead, it’s everywhere. 

Seto is unimpressed by this, because he knows how science and timelines should work, and this wouldn’t pass Kaiba Corp inspection.

Back at the yellow palace made of cheese and mario blocks, Pharaoh is still knocked out from that time he summed all 3 dragons last episode, which to me feels like just eons ago. 

But it’s OK, he’s fine now.

Typically he’d be dead, because his dragons died on the battlefield and their life force is connected to their monsters. But not only is Pharaoh 1.) already dead and 2.) the author of this universe and cannot die or this universe ceases to exist he’s 3.) got the puzzle, which means he can’t actually perma die, unlike everyone else in his court who is perma-gone.

He is not surprised by what is currently happening in Egypt’s downtown strip.

This is probably every day in Domino. Every day Seto Kaiba wakes up everyone in town with his three-headed dragon princess just because he can. Hell, Seto was doing this fight with Bakura on the top towers of Domino just this morning (or last morning…not sure if time passes in real life the same way it does in puzzle life)

The audacity of Yami right now, the one moment Yugi isn’t there to scream about ledges, this boy is leaping joyfully off that ledge. 

He fuses with the dragon which gives him this familiar outfit.

I thiiiiink it’s the same outfit as Alexander season? I’ll be real with you though, I don’t really want to look it up. Either way, good to see the return of putting on a ton of armor in a card game, I don't think we've seen it Canonically since that one time Joey did it against Valon, and ever since then, Joey kind of forgot it was a thing he can just do.

But unlike Joey, Yami doesn’t take the opportunity to punch Zorc in the face, instead he just loses yet another time.

This time he didn’t even pass out, he barely even died. This is progress, truly.

But as Zorc is powering up the peepee missile to fire in Yami’s face (what a way to die!), Shadi has decided to inform us why he’s been stalking these kids for this entire show.

So there’s two ways to read this. 1.) Shadi was Hassan the entire time but had to go back in time from this moment in order to do it or 2.) Shadi possessed the power of Hassan last second so Yami could avoid death one final time.

Both of these explanations don’t fully make sense to me, I’ll be honest, because in order to know that he’ll be needed in the first place, Shadi had to know that Yami would die at this particular moment--a moment that is a different timeline than has ever existed before.

So really, Shadi was just going by a hunch. He was like “I dunno, I’ll see how this goes.” which is more in line with the Shadi we know and love.

Is it a crying shame that Shadi, who has been with us for so many seasons, and it so integral to this show had such an unceremonious death? Yeah. I feel like I didn’t quite get the closure I wanted but I’m also sort of confused as to…what happened. But I’ll leave it there because apparently we get more Shadi content in Dark Side of Dimensions.

Anyway, I have no idea if these images will even fit into a post with how how tumbler does posts nowadays, and I'll be real I had to re upload the last bit of it, which I suspect was over 15 images???? Not sure??? but we found a workaround! google docs works!

Also, Seto didn’t die today! Instead it was Shadi! For a SECOND time!

Mmm, yes! Thank you for asking about these boys! I've had Mastershipping on the mind all week because I've been reading @theduchessofboredom's fic Common Ground (I haven't finished it yet, but it's a delight of awkward teen shenanigans!).

Gives nose/forehead kisses

Duke has to teach Seto to give them to him, because he likes them, and Seto went through a phase where it was just always awkward when he did it, but Duke was patient with him. (I think that's core to Mastershipping as a whole: Duke being patient with Kaiba as he learns how to function in a relationship.)

Gets jealous the most

I think it's about even. Kaiba gets pissy-jealous whenever Duke has to cancel or change plans due to Industrial Illusions/Pegasus business, and Duke gets petty-jealous whenever Kaiba has to cancel on him due to work stuff that he could probably delegate but chooses not to because he's a perfectionist with trust issues.

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive

Duke likes going out drinking with friends much more than Kaiba, so Kaiba picks him up sometimes (if he doesn't send Roland to get him). Kaiba mostly only drinks in careful moderation at social functions and otherwise alone at home, but occasionally when he's traveling for business, and he's in the right kind of city, and there's a casino in the hotel, he'll go down to the casino and play a few hands of poker over drinks. His boyfriend (Duke in this case) has to go down and drag his ass back to the room before he fleeces a Saudi prince so bad that they get butt-hurt enough to throw a tantrum. It's the most he smiles around strangers.

I've been sitting on that headcanon for ages, and I think the only time I've ever pulled it out was in one of my top three shittiest fics of all time. Yeah, I know what my three worst stories are.

Takes care of on sick days

Kaiba's not great at the caretaking part, but he's big on the fussy and will sit in bed next to Duke with his laptop, still working but there for him. And no, Kaiba doesn't get sick, so Duke is frustrated he never gets to return the favor.

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day

Duke tries his damnedest to get Kaiba to participate in a beach trip, but it's hard enough to even get him there because it's so far out of his comfort zone. Kaiba was never properly socialized as a kid and put the CEO thing on him so young, he just developed weird. He can't stand the idea of taking his shirt off in a public place like a beach (he thinks the whole concept is weird), hates being casual, all of that stuff. It just makes him so uncomfortable. Duke and Mokuba have to work together to get his ass out of that chair and so much as get his feet in the water.

Gives unprompted massages

Duke knows better than to try that with Kaiba. He's touchy about being touched, and surprise touches are generally unwelcome, even from loved ones.

Drives/rides shotgun

Kaiba drives—he's a control freak, he can't help it. The only exception is when they're on Duke's motorcycle which Kaiba claims to despise but on rare occasions he will go on a ride with him. He mostly hates it because of how unsafe it is and had as many safety features installed as was physically possible.

Brings the other lunch at work

Duke brings it to Kaiba, but more often it's them making lunch plans because workaholic Kaiba has a bad habit of skipping lunch breaks.

Has the better parental relationship

Uuuuhhhhhhhhhhh..... Do I even need to answer this one? Is Duke the default answer because there's a living parent to have a relationship with? I know we see Duke with his dad in DSOD, but I just can't believe in any reconciliation happening there, so the real answer is, neither of them have a good relationship with any of their parents. Kaiba avoids talking about his birth parents in any capacity whatsoever.

Tries to start role-playing in bed

Duke, but it never works. Not yet, at least. He hasn't found one that doesn't irritate, bore, or trigger Kaiba in some way.

Embarrassingly drunk dancer

DUKE, EVERY TIME. Kaiba never dances drunk, not even if Duke is trying to get him to join in. Kaiba will literally lift this boy iver his shoulder and carry him away to keep him from embarrassing him too badly. Not Duke, Duke doesn't get embarrassed easily, but Kaiba will be the one getting embarrassed by him.

Still cries watching Titanic

Neither of them. Kaiba detests the movie for a multitude of reasons (how valid they are isn't relevant), but if Duke is having a particularly melancholy episode when he watches it, he will sometimes tear up a little.

Firmly believes in couples costumes

Duke does, and Kaiba loathes the idea with every fiber of his being. The one time that Duke coaxes him into a couples costume for Yugi's or Ryou's Halloween party, Kaiba left early and wouldn't explain why. They never did that again.

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas

Kaiba. Every. Single. Time. It's okay though, because Duke does too, because he knows Kaiba will. It's a vicious cycle. Mokuba benefits the most from this because they obviously can't give each other more expensive gifts than they give the little bro.

Makes the other eat breakfast

They're both bad about breakfast, but Duke is good about it when he had someone else to feed. So he sets a good example for Mokuba and convinces Kaiba to eat some kind of solid food with his morning coffee. "Even just toast is fine, but please, eat something! You don't want Mokuba to learn your bad habits."

Remembers anniversaries

Kaiba acts like he doesn't, but they're marked on his calendar and he starts his considerations months in advance usually. Duke taught him early on the actual reason behind celebrating anniversaries and birthdays and why it's important to him, so he complies because it's important to Duke and he understands why, but he didn't really care otherwise. Time is a construct, blah blah blah.

Brings up having kids

Duke brings it up first, and is very surprised that Kaiba says yes! I don't always headcanon Kaiba as wanting kids in every ship or scenario, but I think he and Duke would be pretty balanced dads.

BONUS HEADCANON

Duke loves being the little spoon, of course, but he loves it even more when he gets to be the big spoon, because he just wants to hold his man. Kaiba secretly loves it too, but can't bring himself to admit to it, so Duke is the one initiating.

Just remember that Seto Kaiba is an absolute cat personality, and that explains a lot of his behavior.

hello! so sorry for the late reply, if its any consolation i opened it on my phone and hallucinated my response multiple times before going "ill reply on my laptop later"

to me its definitely a case of "you cant just slap on Traditional Family Dynamic on all platonic relationships" Kisara the woman isnt motherly or nurturing, i know most people want her a "big sister" figure to Mokuba but her themes are social outcast, benevolent yet lonely, angry yet merciful, self sacrificing but hard to connect, shunned and worshipped woman of unknown origin. shes pretty much a wet pathetic meow meow on the surface. that much is impossible to miss so no matter how or when they meet Mokuba would be the one looking out for her. in the soft ways a young boy who grew up too fast tries to care for someone older than him.

think about it. shes scaredgirl core even when all the logical signs in her speech and her actions point to her being calm, coldblooded, levelheaded person, her body language is caving into herself, turtlenecking, backing out until she hits a wall, her self preservation hard to miss. Mokuba would immediately take notice of it (he used to too. though now its Fake It Till You Make with the kaiba bros) and regardless of how calm she might seem i can see him very subtly caring for her in small ways. he'll be more animated and loud if shes embarrassed, he'll step in front of her in a crowd so she can follow, in all joke fights or general seto bitching, him and kisara are a unified front. tho their win rate against him is crazy high theyre never NEVER above dramatically hugging each other, sinking to their knees, begging this tyrant to stop abusing his two very soft and kind family members (guilt tripping older siblings on how they used to treat you is always morally correct. im the older sibling its fair ok)

from there its easy to see him turning to loving her really deeply. while her connection to seto is significant and mokuba is happy for it, kisara herself is a fun, strange little lady, always down for his shenanigans, easily excitable about trying new things. mokuba, as the self proclaimed jack of all trades kaiba brother needs to try out many hobbies, learn about all subjects on earth, taste all arts he can and kisara is a wonderful partner. shes down to earth and humble in a way that puts things into perspective (she has that effect on both kaiba brothers lol. world wont end if you lose this game. there there) and mokuba would enjoy the chilled out nature of her because the kaibas are EXTREME.

anyway so the boyish ways he carefully regards her go both ways, she would be very attached him (dragon!) but she'd not care for the ages at all. she'd be like "OMG MY BEST FRIEND MOKUBAAA!!!" in her mind whenever she spots him. if all goes well and she is given a happy ending, she only enjoys companionship later in life. i like to imagine her having meaningful and rich relationships with different types of people as an adult but it WOULD be missing something important. monkeying around. silliness. and the eternal youth swagTM of mokuba kaiba would be her precious childhood silliness she missed out on. she would get to experimentally Commit To The Bit. her smart humor and his sharp wit, when they get together, leaving behind only the dumbest bits... their chemistry.

best trios are ones where all the members feel like the thirdwheel and knowing how seto-kisara and seto-mokuba are its only fair kisara-mokuba is LINKED for life.

The Atem that Kaiba sees and the Atem that Yugi and friends see are like two different people- I actually have so much Feeling abt Kaiba's "Atem-complex" as I call it 😂 and I think it's Sad that Kaiba has never exactly witness Atem's caring and loving side <\3 Atem is like forever the personification of Power and Danger through Kaiba's eyes and I very much wish at the time he met Atem again post-DSOD in the Afterlife or whatever, he could see that Atem's just a Boy like him 🥺 I want them to be friends

I want to make a mini-series about Kaiba's Adventures in Atem's Realm where Atem gets him on various shenanigans... they need to be silley together

BBT gave us all the perfect opportunity but I have never seen a fic touching on Yusie being able to see the pre Zero Reverse world.

Where is my Yugi and Judai taking Yusie to see the world that was destroyed by his father’s energy plant? The world he never got to see cos it all went up in smoke the day he was born? A world where he isn’t looked down on for his family name?

Let them give him a tour. Let him see the man who built the Kaiba dome he discovered his signer mark in. The man who created the game he loves so dearly and see the four great champions duelists in their heyday even if just from afar. Heck that last one would be awesome for Judai as well. Let Yugi take these baby duelists to see the big leagues before they go home.

And where’s my fic of them finding each other in the future. We’ve established that Judai is immortal and I refuse to believe Yugi went out like a chump in Zero Reverse so where’s Judai getting back to his time only to find Yugi waiting for him and the same with Yusie once he gets a moment alone from his friends?

We need more fics of the ygo bois hanging out together. You hear me internet??? We were handed the golden opportunity to write inexplicable crossover stories and crack adventures and by god I want to read that.

I, for one, am attempting to (slowly) do my part, with my wip that I've talked about a little bit on here: Dear Fellow Traveler. The fic I started writing before I even watched BBT solely because the phrase "Jaden and Yusei roadtrip" popped into my head and refused to leave.

Some of my favorite scenes I've written so far are me having to take a step back and ask myself "Well. How much does Yusei even know about a pre-zero reverse world?" Could he, if pressed, operate a diesel vehicle? Has he ever seen a carnival when it's active, not just a run down spooksfest like we see on Satellite in the dark signer arc? Bonds Beyond Time takes places right before the crashtown arc, so he's never even been outside of Domino City.

I think he deserves to see the stars.

This fic is also a blast to write because you couple that curiosity about the world with Jaden Yuki, a guy who does not know what normal human behaviors are and will absolutely never learn. Shenanigans, inevitably, ensue.

L Lawliet was not the name that killed L. I'm too tired to rant on this right now but something something him being attached to his own name and the title L as much as he is to any of his other numerous aliases something something his strained relationship with his father figure something something the fact that Near and Mello's legal names are explicitly the names used to kill them or needed to kill them, meaning they still attach to those names as being representative to them, meanwhile we never see the name that kills L floating above his head or written in the DN, and only learn of it in supplemental material.

Here's some Yu-Gi-Oh fic ideas....

1 Yugi and the others, probably Kaiba too, end up in a Isekai situation, summoned into Fantasy Ancient Egypt in order to defeat the Demon Lord Zorg and save the Nameless Prince. It's probably a plot by someone trying to take over the Kingdom or something. Unfortunately for the plotters, their new heroes are all kinds of genre savvy and bit past their gullible and naive world saving days, and honestly kind of done with this stuff, and immediately decide to abuse the hell out of the system.

2 During a reunion thing everyone gets completely wasted and in a bout of drunken shenanigans people end up swearing fealty to Ryou's cat. And when you've spent years tangled in various ancient Egyptian magics, that sort of thing can have consequences. Of the time travelly, cat-eared variety.

3 Yugi ends up back in time, back when he first got the Puzzle, in the body of his own 8 year old self… as an extra spirit. Which is not the best because honestly his life turned out pretty good, as did the world and he doesn't really want to change anything. And there's Atem too, still locked in the puzzle and… well. Maybe there's one thing he wants to change. Now whether can do that without completely messing up his own future in the process…

4 Yugi and Atem are two parts of the same soul, one of them can't move on without the other. Either they both move on, or neither of them does. And if they don't… they have to become one person again. Which, it turns out, is kind of a death, too.

5 Yami turns out to be a Goa'uld with amnesia.

6 Unbeknownst to anyone, behind the scenes Yami Bakura is having an epic battle with the universe to protect Ryou from his White Haired Anime Boy Destiny. Ryou, not helping things, starts wearing his hair in a Side Ponytail. Somehow this leads into time travel and various adoptions.

7 Coming from the time of wigs, questionable personal grooming and silver being more valuable than gold, Atem's first impression of Yugi in his elaborate punk goth getup is "ah yes, fellow King." He never quite manages to shake that first impression.

8 Grandpa Sugoroku dies and in order to keep his biggest rival and potential threat from ending up in the hands of his various corporate enemies, Kaiba adopts Yugi.

9 All that messed up stuff Yami did in the beginning? Mostly came from Yugi's very repressed psyche. As Yami starts to remember and grow more mellow, Yugi does the complete opposite.

10 The Millennium Items are basically Pieces of Eden and Desmond has to recruit Yugi to serve as his guide on a time traveling quest to destroy all knowledge about how they were made. (Also, Yugi is older than Desmond and that greatly pleases me for some reason.)

Ryou bought a house. That tells you everything you need to know about this story, because if Ryou bought a house you can bet your ass it’s haunted. But WAIT! It’s not just haunted by one ghost. Delightful wonderful cute spooky shenanigans. Not sure where all the ships are going in this fic, but I like the Ryou x YMarik chemistry. And I also like the Ryou x Yugi chemistry. So I can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.

Seto catches a merman during a deep sea mining excursion, and decides to study him. Because that’s just such a Seto thing to do. Meanwhile the merman, Atem, decides to have some fun. This is a long fic, it gets all kinds of kinky, and is a helluva trip to read. Loved it, from start to finish. Seto is written perfectly. Probably the best written Seto I’ve ever seen. The fic is very Kaiba-centric, so I highly recommend if you LOVE Seto Kaiba. Prideshipping out the wazoo.

The Missing Puzzle Piece to Your Heart - by ThePancake

A canon compliant Ancient Egypt AU. Yugi goes back in time to live with Atem in ancient Egypt after the events of the show. (Don’t think too hard about how this works without disrupting history and time. Just enjoy it.) This story is sweet, and steamy, and spicy, and dramatic. The author is super talented, and writes all the characters so well. And the story was so much fun to read. Reading this fic had my heart doing acrobatics when the angst and drama went full tilt. All the feels in the best ways. So much Puzzleshipping.

Haunted House sweet Home - by InkFlavored

Because I can never get enough of the haunted house trope. I highly recommend reading this fic if you need more Puzzleshipping ghost fix. Yugi moves into a new place only to discover a golden Egyptian diadem left abandoned inside the apartment. Atem is a spirit tethered to said diadem. Cue the cutest friendship turn slow burn romance ever. It’s an absolute thrill of a read. Sweet, fluffy, but also full of suspense and spooks.

Fuzzy Handcuffs - by Sitabethel

Probably one of my all time favorite Deathshipping fics. With the help of Marik and Yugi, Ryou brings back all the Yamis using dark magic. Yugi gets reunited with Atem, and Marik with Bakura. But YMarik got brought back with no one to love him... unless. The fic is hilarious, spicy, and a treat to read.

Creepy Hide & Seek - by Sitabethel

Bet you can’t tell who’s my favorite author yet. This fic is mostly Deathshipping with a sumptuous side of Thiefshipping. Two of my favorite ships. Ryou figures out how to bring back YBakura and eventually YMarik by playing a dangerous rendition of Hide and Seek. The consequences of playing the game wrong turn out to be much more grave than he ever imagined though.

Red string - by Renk3r

Mobiumshipping perfection. Yami recovers his memories, but not in the way he expected. The memories come in the form of his former self, Atem. And now his soul is split in two. Yami and Atem inhabit the puzzle together, both vying for Yugi’s attention and affection, and neither wants to share. This is hands down my second favorite fanfic. And my favorite Mobium fic. A MUST read.

Playing Card Games is Just like Making Love - by ChaosRocket

Marik recovers the millennium ring, and manages to bring Bakura back. The two strike up a bargain to get what they both want, but their partnership blooms into a tentative friendship, that starts encroaching on deeper feelings. Especially when they start betting sexual favors on card games. An excellent Thiefshipping romp. So many feels, so well written. It’s ruined me for any other Thiefshipping fic. This one set the bar so high.

Silent Mind - by LadyGodess

The Deathshipping fic, that probably got me into Deathshipping in the first place. The OG Death fic. YMarik finds a broken Ryou, and takes him home. The two become friends as YMarik helps patch him up, and Ryou starts to see a different side to the infamous Yami.

Only Mine - by Natoya

Atem, Pharaoh of Egypt, gets a curse cast upon him by a scorned Princess. The curse forces him to become an immortal pleasure slave tethered to a golden box. The stipulations of the curse? To remain a pleasure slave until he finds true love. Fast forward several thousand years to the present, and Yugi happens upon an ancient golden box that just might contain the man of his dreams. This fic is an oldie but goody. A fun romantic romp, with great humor, spicy romance, and indulgent tropes/cliches of the best kind. A very fun read. Puzzleshipping.

Yugi is a prince betrothed to a Princess from a neighboring Kingdom. Atem is King Solomon’s best Knight. When Atem is assigned to train/tutor Prince Yugi in combat, the two begin discovering feelings for the other. Forbidden feelings. Prince/Knight romance. Just one of my all time favs. Gave me all the feels, and took me on the best ride. Puzzleshipping all the way.

Lessons in Fear - by Milessqueak

Yugi takes a temporary gig, working at a summer camp in the spring to get it cleaned and set up for use in the summer. He meets a stranger named Atem, who is oddly enough, also there to clean up the camp. Amidst paranormal and suspicious happenings the two manage to become friends and uncover the sordid history of the camp, including the string of murders that took place over the last decade. But who is responsible, and is Yugi in danger now? This fic is fantastic, has incredible atmosphere and setting descriptions. The tension and spookiness are off the charts. I wouldn’t describe it as outright horror, but it’s definitely in the Chiller category. And great Puzzleshipping romance to boot.

Fear is Only Skin Deep - Tsurenaii

Yugi loses a bet and ends up in a Tattoo shop to get his ears pierced. But oh no, the guy running the shop is hot and Yugi’s at his mercy. Excellent characterization in this fic, brilliant writing, even lovelier dialogue. This fic is amazing, and you should check it out. I couldn’t recommend this one enough. Some top notch Puzzleshipping.

So… - QueenBastest

A feel good slice of life story. Yugi and Atem explore their new relationship both emotionally and physically. It’s a delightful romp, fluffy, and sweet, and spicy. Lots of sexy moments. The exact type of story I like to comfort read. Starts off fluffy and sweet and gets a little turbulent with drama when Yugi starts working on a secret project with his friends, a surprise for Atem. Love this story. Major Puzzleshipping.

Only Ghosts - Thepigeonqueen

A beautiful story about Shadi taking a trip inside Pegasus’s soul room. The two end up stranded in there when Funny Bunny steals Shadi’s key, and along the way make discoveries about themselves and each other. It’s delightful seeing Pegasus both grow and having grown as a character. And PigeonQueen writes the best damn version of Shadi I’ve ever seen. Like their interpretation of him 100% changed my feelings toward the character. It’s a fun and amazing story, and you should check it out. Definitely the first and most favorite Twistedshipping fic I’ve ever read.

Bakura has a huge fight with Malik, and ends up staying with Yugi because he has nowhere else to go. Yugi, the sweet little bean that he is, gives Bakura a place to crash and starts to learn more about Bakura as things get sweet and cute. Then FEELS start happening. It’s so good. And I love this series to death. Boundshipping.

Egyptology Exercises - by Nedjemet

A spectacular retelling of Yu-Gi-Oh! DM, but with 90% less card games and 90% more Egyptology and accuracy. Also it’s Puzzleshipping, and gives you all the wholesome and romantic interactions between the puzzle boys you were longing for in the original YGO. I’m loving this fic, and it really breaths new life and perspective into the series.

Okay, hear me out.  Yugioh/Miraculous Ladybug crossover.

(this got long so under the cut it goes)

The Yugioh gang goes to Paris for a Duel Monsters tournament Kaiba is throwing.  Kaiba probably strongarmed Yugi into entering, like usual.

Turns out Duel Monsters isn’t the only magic at work in the world, since they find out about Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Hawk Moth in preparing for the trip.

Through complicated shenanigans, they end up meeting Marinette and Adrien.

(Don’t worry about language barriers.  It’s fine.)

The kwamis can see Atem in spirit form, and they think Yugi and Atem’s situation is fascinating.  The Millennium Items have some similarities to the Miraculous (magic jewelry, the villains want to collect them for ultimate power, the Ring and Puzzle have magic beings inside that need a human to be able to interact with the world), so they can vibe a little.

Atem still doesn’t have his memories back (or his name really, they all still call him Pharaoh, but I’m calling him Atem here for simplicity), so when he hears that Tikki and Plagg were in Egypt in ancient times he’s eager to ask them if they can tell him anything.  Unfortunately, his time was 5000 years ago, when the kwamis were still in China, so they only heard stories about him when they got to Egypt.  But it’s closer to the source than what the Ishtars were able to impart, so he’s grateful for anything they can add.

Because of reasons, each of the core Friendship Squad gets lent a Miraculous.

Yugi gets the snake, because I think he could use Second Chance really effectively.  

Due to how Miraculous transformations work, the Puzzle ends up hidden away when he transforms, and Atem gets locked in his soul room.  They can still communicate with each other, though, and the reverse happens when Atem gets a turn as Viperion.

Téa gets the mouse, because I think Multimouse suits her and she’d get along great with Mullo.

Joey gets the dog because it’s a running gag at this point that Joey keeps getting put in dog costumes.

Tristan gets the tiger because he’s the brawler and its power is throwing a big punch.

Hawk Moth targets Kaiba at the tournament because hoo boy the negative emotions on that one, but what he didn’t plan on was Kaiba being legendarily stubborn and egotistical.  Hawk Moth’s victims have ignored or disobeyed him before, but not like Kaiba.  Seto Kaiba takes orders from no one, and none of Hawk Moth’s attempts to entice or threaten him get him to budge.  He also refuses to acknowledge that what’s happening is magic, because Kaiba is a skeptic beyond the point of rationality, and thus won’t believe that the Miraculous are even real.

So Kaiba just continues on with the tournament with Hawk Moth constantly prodding him, and he just keeps stonewalling him.  And since Hawk Moth can only akumatize one person at a time, he’s stuck listening to Kaiba insult and ignore him and his entire operation until Ladybug can purify the akuma.  It’s one of the few times he wants Ladybug to succeed, and he hates it.

Unfortunately, the akuma is in Kaiba’s duel disk, so Ladybug has to convince him to let her break it to release the akuma, and that’s a dealbreaker no matter how many times she says she can fix it afterward.

Eventually, she resorts to Lucky Charm for inspiration, and it gives her a duel disk,  So she’s like “welp, I guess I gotta”, and challenges Kaiba to a duel.  If she wins, he lets her purify his akuma.  Kaiba wants to refuse and get back to the tournament, but Mayor Bourgeois threatens to cancel the whole thing if he doesn’t accept.

Marinette runs a Madolche deck, but as Ladybug she might play Elemental Heroes.

SO I FINALLY FINISHED 5D’S! And what better way to celebrate than to go through my favorite characters as…briefly as I can

Slight spoilers I suppose?

Let’s work it up from 10 to 1

10- Jack

Was gonna go with lucchiano but who am I kidding Jack’s great. He’s a drama queen with an even more dramatic wardrobe. Never afraid to express himself and just bluntly blurt out what he thought.

His obsession with Cup ramen is on another level but what can I say? Love is love, Jack x cup ramen for life *wipes tears*

But seriously speaking he’s great. His very first line was enough proof of that. He just… apologized for being late then declared “I AM KING” like the…king he is.

My favorite Rival character still remains Manjoume… and… Yeah I still prefer Kaiba over Jack but damn was he a good rival.

Like he has to be the only Rival so far with an actual past with the Main character, no? That was pretty interesting because usually, the protagonist meets the rival somewhere during the first season and we go off from there. But here we had to go through their backstory to know what their relationship was fully like. Nice touch.

9- Aki

Hands down my favorite female protagonist so far. I adore Anzu and feel neutral enough about Asuka but Aki? NAH MAN AKI’S AMAZING. I think 5D’s just does the best job with its female characters. Like it actually gives them big enough roles. I loved how Aki got her own episodes…be it the D-wheel ones or just… fillers.

Her crush on Yusei was justified, at least it seems so to me, and honestly never got obnoxious. Sure she had a moment here and there but it was honestly never a bad thing. Hell faith shipping in general isn’t exactly a bad Idea.

Speaking of shipping, is anyone going to talk about her little frienshipmaybemore moments with Crow? No? Ok…

But anyway, overall, SHE’S AMAZING AND I LOVE HER. There was more to her than some boring pining love interest and it shows with each episode. So when people say she has a great personality, they’re actually talking about her personality. AKI RULES

8- Mikage

Would’ve been way WAY higher on the list if the thing with Jack was thrown out the widow.

That being said I think she’s the more mature of the Jack-crazy trio. Like sure she was just as into him as the other two, but in some scenes she was a lot more tolerable.

But that honestly might just be my bias towards this amazing woman speaking.

She’s devoted to her work, gentle, caring, gorgeous and just all around a wonderful character to see.

I loved most of her scenes in the series, and the fact that there was more to her than just the jack part. She actually had an important part to play in many episodes and honestly proved herself to be a very fun character. I just wish they gave a her little more screentime than what she got.

A lot of lost potential there- I mean come on.

7- Rua /Lua

He reminds me of Judai WAY too much. LIKE WAAAAY too much not to be on this list. The guy’s adorable. And I love how they made him the emotional one. Like they could’ve gone with the “the boy is always rowdy and tOUGH” stereotype, but they didn’t. Sure, ruka (who I don’t like as much) was much more gentle, but it was much easier to see Rua cry than it was to see her do so. It’s just fun is all.

I also adore his deck and that little theme that played whenever he dueled… Plus his relationship with Jack and Yusei…GOLD GOLD.

6- Ushio

I made a whole post about Him, You think he wouldn’t be in my Top 10? Well think again. Great development would see through again.

5- Sherry Leblanc

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SHERRY.

What you just witnessed in the line above is my internal reaction to literally any scene this beautiful badass woman happens to be in.

She’s just amazing. She has this really… tough energy IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE IT BUT SHE’S A REALLY INTIMIDATING WOMAN. But not in a bad way, oh nonononono in a REALLY REALLY GOOD WAY OKAY.

Her character arcs and episodes somehow felt…really separate from the whole team 5D’s shenanigans even though they were basically connected…

Like she had her own motivation that didn’t particularly rely on bonds, but was still willing to accept and even form a bond with the whole team.

Revenge is kinda hot ngl.

Okay no it’s not. But seeing a vengeful character that WASN’T played off as evil or particularly wrong amidst a bunch of friendship is magic ones was pretty refreshing.

The moment she took her helmet off when dueling yusei I was HOOKED and so was Aki but shhhhhh.

But damn I love what they did with her at the end, Rushed as it may have been. It took her joining with Z-one briefly and dueling Aki and Crow ( a very underrated duo btw) to realize that maybe thinking of the past and only the past was not a very good idea.

Anyway love her. And her duels are always a delight to watch.

4- Placido

Before he showed up, sherry was supposed to be 4th but here we are. Placido Placido Placido. I want to make it clear that…I really couldn’t care less about Aporia as a whole. But Placido and Lucchiano were pretty fun characters.

Now I finally get to talk about my beloved.

This dude was…the biggest mood. EVER.

He would hang up in that third one’s face like it was nothing and constantly ignore his boring ass. Oh. You have a plan? Ok. I don’t care. It’s boring. I’m placido and I’ll do what I want. Kiss my D-wheel ass.

He has a lot of hilariously sassy lines, which include and I quote:

“I don’t know what god wants you to do.”

“But I won’t accept it!”

The guy just does not care and I’m living for it.

Not to mention his bee analogies which- Why have I not seen anyone point out????? BEE ANALOGIES COME ONNNNNNNN

aNYWAY PLACIDO’S GREAT

3- Kiryuu

Edgy dude with pretty hair. Also gay. Also the crash town arc. Need I say more?

I will anyway.

Honestly dark signer Kiryuu was pretty fun to me with all the crazy laughter and stuff…

Then past/ flashbacks Kiryuu was just as interesting but in a completely different way. Sure he didn’t get as many episodes or screentime as the rest, but what I saw of him was more than enough for me to care about the Character. Like unlike the old satellite gang (Rally and the other two whose names I can’t even remember) I actually gave a shit about this guy when bad stuff happened to him.

Not to mention his growth. Like…He went through reverse/ negative development, then uphill by the end of the signers’ ark with all the…dying in your hands gayly stuff, then downhill again by the beginning of the crosstown arc….aaaaand back up and higher than ever by the end of it. Basically the fact that his development wasn’t always constant just added some spice.

Plus his dynamic with his ex-teammates…team….satisfaction (Try saying that with a straight face) was always pretty entertaining, especially his with Yusei.

Speaking of which...

With all my talk about him…and…my profile picture…and URL, it may come as a surprise that he’s not number 1 here, but honestly it’s so close you could call it a tie.

◇ hOH BOY Where do I begin!

1) The duality and nuance to your portrayal! Overall, your Atem is much more mature and understanding of others than he was shown being during canon events (and by that I mostly mean kAiba lmao) like obviously he’s not become a pushover or anything and they don’t always meet eye to eye but like, it’s clear that Atem has had character development and puts a lot of thought into situations as they come up and meets them with the level of nuance they have and expresses how things are often not as simple as they appear which is something Kaiba still needs to work on lmao 

2) oN the flipside love how the lighthearted stuff and shenanigans aren’t far away either! Atem’s cheekiness is matched to a T and all the trouble he can get into or mess around with other characters is really funny and keeps things dynamic!

3) Seeing Atem get to experience and enjoy just... daily life things? During canon we don’t get a lot of information on his thoughts on food, modern technology, clothes or such and it’s really interesting to see how his interests develop as well as explore more things we didn’t get to see in canon?? It’s so wholesome and brings him to life a lot!

Mumbleshipping Boys Play Monster World w/ Mokuba

There's no way that Ryou doesn't induct his bfs into Monster World, they're legally required to play at least one campaign with him. Not that he coerces them so much as, they wouldn't be the right people for him if they weren't at least willing to try it. Kaiba's unfamiliar with co-op games so he's intrigued how this will be different from automated/video-game RPGs, Duke is excited to cause chaos and get the entire plot off-course. They invite Mokuba to round out the party (and to force Duke to behave at least a little bit because child is present).

Ryou pulls no punches with dungeon puzzles, quest riddles, deceptive NPCs, and map hazards. He is the god of this world, and he savors every bit of that role. He's so vicious that from the start, he makes everybody create two characters, a main and a backup just in case their main dies. He just knows that they're going to need it.

Kaiba makes a dragonborn paladin with an elf warlock as his backup. He's here to obliterate anything that gets in his way and Mokuba jokes that his brother should have picked barbarian. He gets very into the puzzles, doesn't care too much for the social part with the NPCs, and has killed quite a few of them when he suspects they're plants/liars (not very cash-money of you, Kaiba; boy ignores the existence of alignment charts). He's only right most of the time, and he knows he's never going to perfect his kill-rate because Ryou knows how to play him, and he's kind of okay with that. It keeps things challenging, and this boy would wither away without a challenge. Kaiba is a very goal-oriented person, so the dudes are faced with the challenge of teaching him to enjoy the journey. From the get-go, Kaiba has an issue with meta-gaming and Ryou is trying to work with him on it.

Mokuba meanwhile is a cat-boy rogue causing all kinds of trouble. He's stealing and eavesdropping and spying and sneaking all over the place, so much so that Kaiba's a little worried about what his brother gets up to sometimes when he's not being actively supervised. Mokuba sees the game as a safe way to act out all of his worst impulses in a safe fantasy, so Kaiba's worrying isn't too terribly justified. His backup is a fairy druid, which surprises The Boys because it's so different from his main, but he doesn't offer an explanation.

Duke (a scoundrel at heart) plays a tiefling bard and if it weren't for Mokuba being present for the campaign, he would absolutely be trying to charm and seduce his way through the quest; he's done that before in a campaign that Ryou ran with Duke and a few other of their friends. For that other campaign, Ryou had to invent an STD system in the game for Duke's shenanigans where he had to roll after every encounter to see if he took damage. So, Ryou told Duke ahead of time that he would be keeping that system in this new campaign.

Between that and Mokuba's presence, Duke is forced to behave himself. His backup is an artificer but he didn't fill out the secondary character sheet all the way because he insists that he's not going to die. This makes Kaiba and Mokuba sometimes push him into harm's way just to prove that he jinxed himself. Duke complains to Ryou that they're ganging up on him, and Ryou tells him to finish his backup character before he needs it. Ryou gets his own little revenges on them when his boys don't act like a team, though, and he secretly loves watching them all have to learn to cooperate to get through the main quest (which they do, when Duke isn't busy hosting The Great Orcish Bake-Off and Mokuba isn't accidentally starting gang wars and Seto isn't murdering every side quest-giver for the purpose of "minimizing distractions").

In the end, it's something they all love doing together. Mokuba loves the attention and that he gets treated like an equal. All of them love that they've tricked Seto into a relaxing hobby (trust me, this is relaxing by Seto's standards). Kaiba loves the challenge that Ryou presents as a DM, and he finds new respect for him as a creator in his own right (he already respects him as an artist, but this is different). Whenever a session has to get cancelled, they're all a bit disappointed, and though Kaiba will never tell them, he's cancelled/rescheduled a few business dinners in order to make sure these sessions happened. The one time he cancelled on Pegasus in favor of Monster World, though, he told them, and he was damn proud of himself and he knew they'd be proud of him, and honestly sticking it to Pegasus is always a win for Kaiba.

This is so sweet thank u for being interested ;;__;; but ok ok so like. crash course? crash course. this is gonna skip a LOT of steps but i wanna give the basic barebones

a lot of this is in conjunction with taekwondoit so if u wanna know more u should also go and ask him >:) BUT okay. okay.

-the millenium items, but what if there was another. this one is called the millenium scarab -the holder is a man named sutekh, atems scribe -sutekh has a husband named Khet -khet is killed by thief king bakura, sutekh goes mad with grief and then sentenced to death via treason -both of their souls are absorbed into the scarab -3000 years pass, and sutekhs mind has all but decayed to the point where hes little more than a writhing mass of hatred and bitterness and a mighty need for revenge against atem -the scarab passes into the hands of a young boy named Red, whos ironically the modern day incarnation of sutekh. he and his best friend Pyro (who is of course the modern day khet) tag along with the crewgioh to duelist kingdom. the two spirits of khet and sutekh latch on to their counterparts all while being completely unaware of eachother -sutekh begins to make it his goal to revive khet, as thats the main power of the scarab -basically the plot of duel monsters with added oc shenanigans goes on from here until the end -sutekhs plan fails, bakura is foiled, all is right with the world -but wait! theres more! sutekh, khet, bakura, and atem are all revived when yugi wins the ceremonial duel, having been ordained a second chance by the gods as thanks for atems bravery and setting things right with the items

ok lightning round -sutekh and khet break up due to the last 3000 years worth of baggage piling up -sutekh and thief king bakura hook up -khet and kaiba hook up, they later have a kid (this is jaden bc im a jaden is setos son truther) -pyro, red, and ryou bakura are a throuple. they also have a kid named atsushi. him and jaden have grown up attached at the hip and for all intents and purposes are cousins

-now the plot of gx happens. gx is a lot more episodic in nature versus duel monsters being very arc heavy, so its more about jaden and attie growing up, attie learning to be a little less dependent on jaden and relying on his own strengths, and them learning to find their own place when they have such big shoes to fill (with kaiba being jadens father and atem and yugi basically being their uncles, its hard not to feel a little discouraged from doing your best when The Greats are already your family) and thats pretty much it! super super barebones like i said it leaves out a lot of motivations that cause certain events and other stuff that sets further plot points into motion but honestly if u see this and youre interested youre welcome to dm me :]
