Okay so one thing that bothers me is all those comments with “you mean Jonathan’s son” or “nah Giorno’s more Jonathan’s son” on Mudad content.

But was Jonathan the one to actually conceive them? No. It was Dio.

Look, I’m all for Jonadad but we as a fandom should focus on Jonadad content with George II. That’s something I really want to see but no one ever thinks about George II, probably because he didn’t get his own part like Holly.

People always forget about him or when it’s Mudad, it’s either Dio hanging out with only Giorno or only Donatello, Rikiel and Ungalo. There’s literally no in between.

I’m a Mudad truther, I know that Jonathan’s biologically the four dudes’ father but I ignore it because I want to acknowledge Dio as their biological father, since he was literally the one to conceive them.

I don’t know about y’all but in my opinion, Jonathan should spend time with his son George II and Dio should spend time with his sons Giorno, Donatello, Rikiel and Ungalo.

I want Jonathan and Dio to be uncles okay? Jonathan being excited to see his nephews and happy for his brother and Dio acting like he doesn’t care but he’s actually spoiling George II as much as he spoils his own sons.

Give me happy content with them.

The five cousins causing trouble together, Dio getting affection from his brother and sister-in-law even though he doesn’t want it and George I being a happy grandfather who’s also proud of his sons (although one of them has children without ever being married).

The same thing happens with Holly and Joseph too!!

But give me Holly being a daddy’s girl, Holly always choosing her father over her mother whenever someone asks the “who do you love the most” question, Holly and Suzie talking shit about Joseph in Italian behind his back, Holly giving Joseph a heart attack when she announces that Sadao proposed to her, Holly Joseph and Suzie crying their eyes out when she announces her pregnancy. Just. Them.

There’s so much we can explore with this huge ass family (and overall every character and other families like the Kawajiris or Diavolo | Doppio and Trish) but all that people focus on are the main JoJos (and the main villains).

One day, I will write this. Once I get the full plot and outline ideas. But I’m already planning it!

When it comes to Mr. Kira, you should generally be quiet and stay out of his way. Oh, sorry, I misspoke. I mean Mr. Kawajiri. 

Warning for discussion of gender roles/conforming to gender stereotypes, it’s gender neutral until I go on my “Yoshikage is a freak who cannot stand anything non mainstream” tangent but I talk about both masc and fem. I cut this short because I got a little too interested in the entire family's dynamic rather than just Kira, hope you still like it. ♡

I’m fond of Yoshikage, if I may be so informal, for his taste in fashion, he cares quite a bit about how he presents himself, and by extension cares how you do. He makes sure you dress appropriately for your age, and in a gender conforming way. He sighs every time you come home with pants on under your uniform’s skirt, or with your tie abandoned. God forbid you’re a part of a subculture that doesn’t conform- being a delinquent isn’t going to get you anywhere in life. Charms on your bag aren’t allowed until you’re older, and pushing your socks down like that makes you look ridiculous.

While Daddy is rather strict and loveless, Shinobu isn’t. She spoils you a little too much- especially considering she thinks she didn’t show Hayato the love he needed, and that’s why he acts Like That. She’s thankful he doesn’t bother you too much, but would it kill him to come downstairs and eat dinner with us? Oh, Mommy’s sorry, she doesn’t mean to vent, she loves girls nights with you too! Girls night isn’t a gender thing, you can have girls night with mother and be a young man! Sigh. Shinobu’s sorry. She’s just desperate for someone to hang out with her. That woman is so neglected. She loves to take you shopping and hear about your interests! Oh, you want to be alone? That’s fine too! Mommy will be right here when you need her! Waiting patiently! …. Are you sure you don’t want to watch some tv, maybe?

Yoshikage has assimilated well into a fatherly role, he accepts it as “being a man,” and therefore, part of his role in being normal. The only issue is he’s used to his father, who has very old and traditional views on what a man does, with absolutely zero chance of becoming open minded. He's more fond of his mother, really. Neither of your parents tell you no if you ask for something- it’s a bit different if you’re masc or fem, he has an idea of what you’re supposed to be from very early on and failing to meet those expectations means not getting the care you deserve. At least from Yoshikage, Shinobu will always love you. ♡

If you’re a girl, Yoshikage is fine with you being a daddy’s girl, as he was sort of himself, in a sense (Don't mention his relationship with his actual father). He’ll humor you asking him to buy you things, as long as it isn’t every week or terribly expensive. You mustn't become a brat. He isn’t really one for excessive materialism, but nine times out of ten he’ll humor you if it means you’re opening up to him. He’ll rent books and different types of media from the library for you if you ask (That he approves of), and he takes you to the park for some fresh air weekly, even if you’re older. He encourages taking care of yourself, but you shouldn’t be trashy about it. Do your nails, but not bright colors. Style your hair, but not in a tacky way, and leave it natural or, if you MUST dye it, dye it a natural color. He tends to nag you more if you’re fem- no boyfriends, come home by a certain time, etc. Typical overprotective girldad. He uses a softer voice when he speaks with his daughter- he knows he’s supposed to be gentle with you, and he’s not going to risk giving you a complex where you grow up to be like the women he murders and doesn’t keep. 

If you’re a boy, he’s less expressive with you, and you likely get most of your affection from Shinobu. He’s fine emotionally neglecting you because he doesn’t view you as something soft. You must be like him. Your brother’s already a failure, are you going to follow in his footsteps? He would still take his son to the park and get him a library card (Note: Doesn’t rent books for you, only gets you the card) and whatnot, but it’s obvious he’s doing it out of obligation (Shinobu lightly suggested it) rather than real love. Bummer! You get nice clothes, though. Being quiet as a boy is fine as long as you aren’t struggling academically. Which has its advantages! If you’re failing, he’ll tutor you, and that means more attention! That also means getting locked in your room and getting berated because “Men are supposed to be better than this, who will have you when you’re older if you’re stupid?” but hey. At least you can get out of hanging out with him by saying you need to study, but you can’t get out of his life lesson lectures. 

While Hayato is the weird child, you’ve taken on the role of what Yoshikage intended his future children to be like, hopefully. Well behaved, well mannered, you don’t have any disturbing hobbies (Which is bold coming from him), you don’t get in his way. For that, he rewards you. Gifts, quality time, letting you be alone, etc. Anything he can think of that will reinforce this good behavior.  Hayato has mixed feelings about you. He also has a bit of a complex when it comes to gender considering his canon dynamic with his mother of “I”m gonna be the new man of the house and take care of mom,” so your relationship depends heavily on a few things. Who’s older, if you’re closer with Yoshikage or Shinobu, if you’re a girl or a boy (Hayato hasn’t figured out there’s a third option yet, give him a couple years), etc. If you’re a girl, you get pushed in the same box as Shinobu. This creep is pretending to be dad, I have to protect mom and my baby sister! If you’re a guy, he’ll expect you to help him, but cuts you some slack if you fail because you’re younger. Hayato likely dismisses an older sibling entirely, they’re just getting in the way and not helping mom at all, regardless of if they help her or not.

kawajiri family does things to my head like okay shinobu married a guy she never loved and she's bored and frustrated and she's mad at her kid because she can't divorce because of him tho this isn't his fault at all until one day her husband comes home from work and it's like he's a different guy he cooks for them both he's considerate he looks at her in a way he never did before and now she feels twenty years younger like she's back in college experiencing love for the first time and she's giddy and happy and a little irresponsible and then you have kira who's taken the identity of some random ass guy and is infiltrating his family and obv he's been single his whole life and now he suddenly has a wife and a kid who he initially feels nothing for aside from murderous urges towards shinobu and wanting to cut of her hand but that's just kira being kira anyway as he continues to live with them he ends up growing to actually like shinobu and he's not sure how he feels about that. and then there's hayato who has never had a good relationship with either of his parents his father was cold and distant and altho she never said anything he can tell his mother resents him and sees him as the cage trapping her here but anyway his father comes home and it's not his father so he's suspicious and he knows his mother doesn't see anything wrong because she's so blinded by love and desire but he Knows something's wrong and then he finds proof that this is a murderer wearing his father's skin and he's only eleven so this fucks him up a little bit he's gonna do everything in his power to keep him and his mother safe because even if she hates him a little she's still his mother. and so kira grows to realise that hayato is very much a threat but he can't kill him because a murder of his child would arouse police suspicion and he can't be dealing with that if he wants to keep getting away with other unrelated murders and also shinobu would be pretty fucked up if her son died so he's gotta try and find a way to neutralise this threat without resorting to violence. anyway plot stuff whateverrr but like. kira dies and what the hell can hayato say to his mother. oh by the way your husband was actually a serial killer with magic catgirl bomb powers who trapped me in a timeloop until he died by getting crushed under an ambulance. so he doesn't say anything to her he'll take this to his grave and she'll never know and they're both just sitting at the dining table waiting for dad to come home. what the fuck.

top 5 film recs

Putting a lot of thought into this a la film student so I'm just choosing some of the 5 best movies I've seen that I think also capture the beauty of film as an artistic medium.

In no particular order

Burning (Lee Chang-Dong, 2018)

Deliveryman Jongsu is out on a job when he runs into Haemi, a girl who once lived in his neighborhood. She asks if he’d mind looking after her cat while she’s away on a trip to Africa. On her return she introduces to Jongsu an enigmatic young man named Ben, who she met during her trip. And one day Ben tells Jongsu about his most unusual hobby… (Letterboxd)

A mesmerizing psychological thriller that totally gets in your head yet has a somewhat meandering pace that captures the drawn out nature of these sorts of stories in real life. Breathtaking cinematography. One of my top five and I think a must watch for fans of the genre and/or Korean cinema.

Sans Soleil (Chris Marker, 1983)

“He wrote me…” A woman narrates the thoughts of a world traveler, meditations on time and memory expressed in words and images from places as far-flung as Japan, Guinea-Bissau, Iceland, and San Francisco. (Letterboxd)

Experimental film at its finest this movie always blows my mind. Moving, contemplative, wonderous. Marker is also just a really important Dude in film history.

The Passion Of Joan of Arc (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1928)

A classic of the silent age, this film tells the story of the doomed but ultimately canonized 15th-century teenage warrior. On trial for claiming she’d spoken to God, Jeanne d’Arc is subjected to inhumane treatment and scare tactics at the hands of church court officials. Initially bullied into changing her story, Jeanne eventually opts for what she sees as the truth. Her punishment, a famously brutal execution, earns her perpetual martyrdom. (Letterboxd)

Fuck it silent film. Watched this with a church choir accompaniment and it left me stunned. The first silent film that gave me an oh moment. Reminds you that the medium can transcend so many barriers with so little. I also just think watching silent films or just really old movies is sooo important because it puts the new stuff in a different light sometimes to see the OG filmic storytelling devices.

Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016)

The tender, heartbreaking story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality. (Letterboxd)

Genuinely believe it's one of the best movies made in the 21st century. Gut wrenching and poignant, great writing, beautiful colour grading, amazing casting, one of the best scores I've ever heard (Nicholas Britell stays WINNING I even own it on vinyl), it's just a show stopper for me and an amazing queer film. I think if you haven't seen this but you loved Sciamma's Portrait of a Lady on Fire they have very similar energies.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Yoshiaki Kawajiri, 2000)

D has been hired to track down Meier Link, a notoriously powerful vampire who has abducted a woman, Charlotte Elbourne. D’s orders are strict - find Charlotte, at any cost. For the first time, D faces serious competition. The Markus Brothers, a family of Vampire Hunters, were hired for the same bounty. D Must intercept Meier and conquer hostile forces on all sides in a deadly race against time. (Letterboxd)

Genuinely one of the only movies I think has accurately captured gothic vampire literature, it just has the VIBE of Dracula and Carmilla in a way no other movie has. It's not actually about those books, but I think it just has the essence that adaptations miss. A great example of the power of animation!!! (Also you can literally watch it for free on youtube soooo...)

“Are you by chance part of the mom tribe?” Karlie Kloss asks me over the phone. It’s a natural—even expected—start to our conversation about the model and entrepreneur’s latest campaign for diaper brand Coterie, which is all about celebrating the physical journey of motherhood.

Though I am very much in my single, child-free era, motherhood is something that I hope is in the cards for me. And it is Kloss’s and fellow model and Coterie campaign costar Tabria Majors’s palpable excitement on my respective phone calls with each where they gushed about their little ones that strengthened my resolve to have a family of my own one day. (So much so, that I may or may not have enlisted their help to manifest it for me). Simply put: They love beings moms.

“It’s the greatest experience in my life,” Kloss tells Vogue. “I mean, maybe it’s the hormones, but it just gives me the greatest joy every single day to wake up and have these two little delicious humans whom I just love so much.”

“It’s just crazy to see how much she’s changed and seeing her little personality developing,” Majors says of her six-month-old daughter. “Just seeing her laugh all the time, it just warms my heart.”

The campaign, which debuted in early February, features Kloss (who invested in the Coterie late last year); Majors; board-certified pediatrician Dr. Mona Amin, MD; celebrity nail artist Mei Kawajiri; and influencer Reese Blutstein, sharing their pregnancy stories in hopes of inspiring others who might be struggling with the changes to their bodies—which is a topic that isn’t often spoken about.

Studies show that the rib cage can expand two to three inches and ligaments can stretch between the second and third trimester. According to the Mayo Clinic, the heart pumps 50 percent more blood to nourish the baby, while the American Academy of Dermatology notes that hair loss is prevalent in new moms. When you pair systemic failures in proper reproductive education with societal expectations to look “perfect” 24/7, many might feel confused and discouraged when witnessing their bodies go through major changes.

“You kind of just have to trust the process. I have learned to love and respect my body through this process, and with that comes changes,” says Kloss. “Of course, I have all the things like stretch marks and all the fun post-baby body things that I’m not mad at. They make me who I am, and I’m so grateful for that.”

Pre- and post-pregnancy can be a lonely experience, even if you are lucky enough to have a full support system. Which is why Majors says sharing pregnancy stories is important to help people feel less alone. She tells me about the outpour of love and support from fans over her birthing story has been an emotional, yet beautiful experience. She even recalls one woman messaging her and saying that her story encouraged her to proceed with her own home birthing—something that Majors says she will never forget. “I just thought that was really powerful and inspiring for me,” she says. “That just makes me feel really good that my story could impact somebody in such a way.”

It would be remiss to not acknowledge that the launch of Coterie’s campaign coincidently coincides with news of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) are considered people, putting the legality of the procedure into question and further harming reproductive health care. The fight to protect reproductive rights is at the forefront during what is shaping to be a contentious presidential election year. These issues are not lost on either Kloss or Majors, who both intentionally pick brand partnerships that not only align with their personal beliefs but can also help make a difference. Both credit Coterie for creating a safe space for women to advocate for themselves.

On Thursdays, Shinobu dresses up, takes the train into town, and meets a serial killer for lunch.

It sounds dramatic boiled down to base facts, like she’s his accomplice, or a future victim. It’s not hard to imagine the police report. Mrs. Kawajiri met the suspect at 1317 hours at his place of work. The suspect lured her to a secondary location, where he then…

Well, she’s not exactly sure how he does it. Or why. Would it be better or worse, knowing all the grisly details?

Today, their secondary location is a gravel trail running parallel to the beach, the sky above them achingly bright and blue. Breakers pound against the coastline and recede with a hiss, water sluicing through sand and pebbles, leaving skeins of foam in a yellow-white tangle on the shore.

They hold hands as they walk, companionably silent. Kira’s wearing a new cologne, a smoky jasmine scent. Shinobu tries to remember what Kosaku used to smell like and finds herself unable to muster more than a passing interest, as insubstantial as seafoam. What does it matter? Her husband is gone now, spirited away by the same power that let the killer at her side take his face and his fingerprints and his wife. Good riddance.

Kira seems content with Kosaku’s appearance, his job, his role in their family, but he’s sloughed the rest like snakeskin. He hums when he’s happy, talks to himself when he thinks he’s alone. He obsesses over details and gets irritable when the world fails to conform to his perilously high standards. He has expensive, occasionally unorthodox tastes. When they get lunch, he always finds something interesting for dessert. Peach and ginger galette. Lemon cake with pistachio and cardamom. Vanilla ice cream dusted with espresso powder, speckled with black pepper, drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

“I’ve come to appreciate a little novelty in my life,” he’d said when she asked, the underlying message clear as a bell and substantially sweeter.

That’s something the police report would definitely leave out. His sweetness.

Today they’re having strawberry and basil jamupan, one each. Kira catches a dribble of jam before it can fall into her lap.

“Careful, dear,” he says. “We don’t want to make a mess, do we?”

An image rises in Shinobu’s mind as she brings her hand to her mouth and licks syrupy, savory filling off her fingers, Kira’s eyes on her like a physical weight. She remembers waking up from a hazy nightmare, stumbling downstairs still half-asleep. Opening the fridge for a bottle of water, acrid yellow light snapping on as the door swings wide. A severed human hand on the top shelf, next to a box of takeout.

A severed human hand. Thick, jellied clots of blood drooling from the stump, oozing past crushed shards of carpal bones and strips of muscle. Darker bits of blood flecking the shelf and interior wall, drying to scab consistency. The fingers stiffly curled, the nails immaculately groomed but bearing the bruise-purple pallor of death. A hand in her fridge.

It was gone in the morning, almost like she had dreamed it. Kira had come home from work with flowers and kisses and Shinobu had ignored the bulge in his suit jacket pocket, turned the tv off when a news bulletin started about a new missing person case.

“No,” she tells Kira, “I don’t.”

Better or worse? Hard to say.
