I watched the One Piece live action and here are some notes I took.

I'm a huge One Piece fan since I was like 10-ish? And so, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it. It had a lot of impact on my personality (Nico Robin is my role model). This live action adaptation matters to me and I'm going to rant. Spoilers ahead.

The director is a woman, and one of the two writers is a woman. Manga and anime are male dominated hobby (and the comic's world is sexist), so the live action of the most popular shōnen being run by women is so great, imo. Also, it's pretty successful, in contrary to other attempts, so it's a win for women.

Garp's actor is a very handsome man. Wtf, they made Garp hot. He also has a beautiful Welsh accent, which is great because it's an accent that gives a "tough guy" impression. At least, it does for me.

Luffy's actor is perfect. This Luffy is slightly different from the original one, but he's perfect in his own way. I will die and kill for him. Also, him being brown with a white grandpa is so good, it had a racial gap between the two of them, where there are already a generational one and a moral one. Like, the white grandpa in the army do not understand how his brown grandson do not like the gov, because he doesn't see it from where he is when the kid does.

Alvida's actress is so beautiful, she's so pretty. I suddenly support women's wrongs.

Damn, the violence is going up a notch (Roger executed on screen, Mr 7's body cut in half, MERRY IS FUCKING KILLED,...)

The actors for Koby and Helmeppo are queer (They/Them pals) Oda is, once again, showing his support to the trans community.

I do not like the colors. It's too dark for One Piece, imo. Look at how saturated the colored pages are, I would have preferred it to be more saturated. I know, this is because of the CGI (issues are less perceptible this way), I'm going to need to make some edits. But, they didn't have to do it to the costumes too. Like, Buggy, except from his hat, his outfit is not flashy like it should be. Would help with the colored hair if it was more colorful and flashy.

Young Luffy wear the same shirt as in the manga is a nice touch.

Dead bodies smell strongly, and Zoro is bringing half of one in a bar???

Episode 2 is pure art. I love it so much.

Buggy is attractive, wtf. I find him more pretty than Shanks.

Bogard is so cool looking. I'm gonna die if Hina is introduced one day (she's going to be so cool)

They changed the "If you’re gonna point your gun toward someone, you better use it" scene. The new one is cool, but the original is iconic.

THE MUSIC WHEN LUFFY REALIZES THAT SHANKS LOST HIS ARM! It's like the orchestra is interrupted, incredible, love it.

Nami and Zoro's siblings' energy is so strong.

Kaya and Nami interraction about the dress "it belonged to my mother" is so good, Nami gets uncomfortable because she also lost her mother and knows how it is to cherish her memory. But Kaya is nice and share it with her, which break her view of rich folks.

The decor's department must have had the time of their life for this show. It's a great job.

Zoro wanting to wear black and drink wine in the 3 episode, he's already embodying being Mihawk's adopted brat.

Kaya makes the oof roblox sounds when she slapped Usopp.

Usopp x Kaya let's gooooooooooo my boy deserves the best (Oda confirming a romance with one of his protagonists is huge)

Yang baru banget gw suka sih James McAvoy, first of all he is so pretty, a twink turn dad bod, biasanya gw ga bakalan jadi suka lagi, but surprisingly I'm not, I'm still very much crushing. And Then, ofc, Mads Mikkelsen, gue tidak ingat when exactly I started to crushing him, Hannibal was the series that introduce me to him, watched plenty movies because HE IS in there. So I guess I just liked him solely because he is Mads. I like he's don't care attitude, kaya gw kerja ya kerja aja gtt, he's not hesitating when voicing his thoughts, I'm not good at reading people, but I know when someone being genuine. And he is. Point more karena Nanami Kento suspiciously based on him, I liked him more. Ikr, I'm so biased.

Last but not least, Jackson Wang, he's my little meow2 (((akhirnya gw pake juga ini))), I LOVE HIM SO MUCH, he is soft, funny, genuine, talented, one of a kind. Selain musik2 nya dia masuk ke telinga ini, suaranya beuh pas dia nyanyi, membuat dada ini bergetar, dalam sedalamnya. At times I thought I had eargasm when hearing him talk.

Hello! I’ve started collecting clips I’ll see what I can do ;)

And this was SUCH a fun exercise so thank you!! First of all, I’d probably have it be a miniseries bc I don’t think you can do justice to the story in ~3 hours. And also would maybe split the generations up into 2 seasons? I would 1000% include the second gen I really don’t think you can get the full depth of Catherine’s Haunting without it. Don’t take any of these choices TOO seriously in reality I think unknowns would make for the most immersive story :*

OKAY FIRST UP: Heathcliff. Dev Patel would be my first choice bc I think he can play both boyish and solemn and he fits the book description pretty well. He’s done period pieces before and I also just love him :) The 2011 casting was already really good so I’d totally be down for James Howson Heathcliff 2. And if we wanted to stress the OMG These Are Literal Kids Getting Married & Dying aspect, I could see Amir Wilson for young Heathcliff (obviously older Heathcliff would have to be cast accordingly).

Loved Kaya Scodelario for Catherine (Sr.), I think you’d have to cast someone with very intense/memorable eyes and a bit of wickedness to her and she’s GOT IT. I could also see an Anya Taylor-Joy type if we wanted to go w the 1992 one-actress-for-both-Cathys route, she’s played cold and haughty and mischievous and innocent and she’s fairly close to how I pictured Cathy (Jr.). If we go age-accurate, we already know Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson play really well off each other and no one plays Scary Youth better than her.

Really love Mackenzie Foy for Cathy Linton, I think she could pass as Kaya Scodelario’s daughter and admittedly this was a little inspired by the (misguided) Twilight parallels.

The Lintons! I completely blanked on blondish male actors that aren’t completely jacked so apologies for that ( @julesblackthorns and I had fun imagining like. Tom Hopper Linton, fully muscled up for Umbrella Academy.) Timothée Chalamet as Linton Heathcliff started as a joke but like. Let’s be honest, he was born for the role. Kathryn Newton played Amy in the Little Women miniseries and I think she could capture Isabella Linton’s hopeless romanticism. And Edgar was SUCH a difficult choice for me, I have him down as Aaron Taylor-Johnson currently but I think Aaron might be a better fit for Lockwood. I’d want someone more bookish I think. Not sure why I didn’t once consider Joe Alwyn but honestly I could kind of see Joe Alwyn.

COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME cast Hareton. Which is a shame because he’s my favorite character :(

And then some miscellaneous/not-so-serious castings: Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Earnshaw because he’s already played Hareton Earnshaw and that was. A choice. Rating Kaya’s collection

I’m bored so I’m starting a new thing where I rate a charactar’s ENTIRE collection. (Buckle your seat belts and enjoy the ride, this is going to be a VERY long post) I’m going in chronilogical order of year they take place so Kaya is up first. 

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS IN MY OPINION! IF YOU DON’T AGREE WITH ME THATS OKAY! Please don’t attack me for some of my decisions!!!

1: Doll and Meet outfit 

Doll: 10/10 I love the new face mold that respects the cultural customs and her cute little nose

Dress: 8/10 very cute and hopefully historically accurate but I feel like it fits the doll a little weird compared to how it looks in the book and in real outfits worn by the her people

2: Meet accesories

10/10 The bag and necklace are so cute and I love the patterns

3: deerskin dress

9/10 so pretty and to my understanding is supposed to be her “special” dress since her culture doesn’t have christmas, so AG released the special edition mini doll with this dress. My only complaint is again, it uses the same pattern as the meet dress so it fits just a little big compared to the illustration.

4: winter accessories

10/10 looks so comfy and adorable. Kinda want boots like those for myself

5: Jingle dress fo today I

9/10 So cute and a lovely shade of blue. Kind of confused why they brought modern clothes into the collection but I suppose its because they couldn’t find what they’d use back then

5/10 such a down-grade and much more sterotypical. Idk if this is even accurate. It was retired only one year later so I might not be

7/10 very beautiful but again looks more cheaply made which breaks my heart. I would have liked to aee AG put more thought into her collection during the beforever era

11: Beforever Pow-wow dress

7/10 Less detailed than the other two versions, and has even less accessories. My point about her beforever collection still stands here. I will say it still has very nice colors

9/10 very colorful details and and cute beads on the fringes. A rare gem in her beforever collection

10/10 Love all the little details like the mat and the bowl and the basket. Those berries look so realistic I want to eat them myself

10/10 I always love it when they give the dolls their own dolls. It’s doll-ception! Anyway, this looks accurate to actual native dolls i’ve seen and I love her little cradel!

3: Saddle

9/10 Horses are an important part of her story, and most horses need a saddel to go with them! I’m a bit confused about the super long tassels though

4: Tee Pee

8/10 Tee Pees are an iconic part of native american culture, and its very nice to have a home for your Kaya, but it looks a bit small in proportion. Someone correct me if im wrong and it’s actually alot bigger than I think

5: Bed roll and sheild

10/10 Looks cozy! I slept with a blanket like that once on vacation and they are very soft and warm!

6: Beforever TeePee and Bed roll

10/10 I like how they combined the bed and Tee pee together so you don’t have to buy them seperately!

7: Trading accessories

10/10 Match very nicely with her trading dress and has lots of little things to trade

8: Beaver

10/10 idk where or why they added a beaver to her collection but it is so cute and fluffy lmao

9: Tatalo and Travis

10/10 very cute, very fluffy, looks like a very strong boi

10: steps high the horse

10000/10 I fricken love horses. this horse in particular is such an iconic part of her story and just has the prettiest design!!! horses will always get 10/10 or more on this blog!

does anyone else think they kind of exploited kaya with how much they oversexualized her as a teen. that must’ve messed with her head a bit :( some of her photoshoots for skins were so suggestive and she was pretty young during that time.

From April Pearson's IGTV show/now podcast, "Are You Michelle From Skins", it seems like that was the case for a lot of the Skins actors. So far, she's had on Larissa (Jal), Dakota (Franky), Meg (Katie), Mitch (Maxxie), and Laya (Liv), and it seems like they all had a similar experience in terms of feeling sexualized at a young age because of the show. While Kaya hasn't been on April's podcast (yet, hopefully), I imagine that she felt that way, too, especially because Effy was so sexualized. Kaya has spoken about how in photoshoots after Skins, she would insist that they didn't style her like Effy, because she didn't want to be seen as "Effy from Skins" for the rest of her career.

Skins was a really groundbreaking show; as Laya said in her podcast episode, they "pluck[ed] children out of the street...to have this authentic onscreen thing going on". It was one of the first shows that showed teenagers doing things that teenagers do, and, crucially to this conversation, cast teenagers to do them. Before Skins, you may have shown characters hooking up in a graphic way, but the actors were always adults playing teenagers. They were people who were (typically) already comfortable with their sexuality and who knew what they were getting into. With Skins, the actors were going through the things their characters were going through at the same time their characters were going through them. There wasn't that sexual confidence there, because the actors hadn't necessarily had those experiences before in their own lives. But, the showrunners, crew, and media treated them like they would other stars of a teen drama- like they treated the adult stars of teen dramas. So you get this weird dynamic where 16 year old Kaya Scodelario is treated the same by the showrunners/crew/media as 20 year old Blake Lively- their characters were the same age, even if they weren't.

Because the show was doing something so different, there weren't really protocols in place for how to treat such young actors dealing with such mature content. Intimacy coordinators didn't even really become a thing until 2017, and (to my knowledge), 2019's Sex Education was the first teen drama to use them. And still to this day, there aren't many teen dramas that make a point of casting only underage actors (the only exception is Degrassi, which is significantly more tame).

I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to get at with this, but I think maybe it's that hindsight is always 20/20. Now it seems obvious- of course the show shouldn't have treated untrained teenage actors like professional adult actors. Of course they should have done everything they could to protect those actors and make them feel comfortable during difficult scenes. Of course they should have protected them from being sexualized by the media and been more body positive on set. But the reason we can say that now is because in the last fifteen years since Skins aired (and particularly in the last 5, since the Me Too movement began), we've put a lot of thought into making sets a safer place for actors, especially in terms of sex and sexualization.

Edit: after re-listening to Meg's episode of "Are You Michelle From Skins", it seems like gen 2 had a better experience than gen 1 or gen 3. Kaya, Meg, Lily, and Klariza all hang out regularly, and it seems like maybe those friendships made that experience easier to cope with.

all I’m saying is that that table is really high for what they’re doing.

This is a nice, wholesome, feel-good episode that’ll get you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Here’s the rundown:

Saki is late for school. She sees her teacher, Ms. Shinohara, in the hall and they both rush to the classroom. Ms. Shinohara wants to declare her late, but the class says she should be safe so she relents. The class representative, a boy named Manabu Miyasako, tries to have everyone stand and bow to begin class, but he mumbles it so quietly that nobody hears him, so the co-representative Andou Kaya does it instead. During a break, Kaya comes over to Saki and sternly tells her to leave earlier in the morning, as she’s always arriving late and disrupting class. While she’s doing this, Miyasako comes over and asks her to take over the commands at the start and end of class, as he’s too shy. She refuses to cover for him, however, feeling that it is a shared responsibility. Saki encourages him to overcome his shyness by just taking deep breaths, and makes a silly face in the process.

That day as Mai and Saki walk home, they notice Kaya in the library reading to children and poke their heads in to see what she’s up to. She explains to them that she likes to read to calm them down, and they enjoy listening to her. Unfortunately, one of her favorite listeners is moving, and she wants to make his last day extra special. Mai suggests a puppet show, and Kaya likes this idea so she writes the story of how she and the little boy, Tomoya, met and became friends while Mai draws a bunch of animals to be used for the puppets. At school the next day, they work on cutting them out, and even enlist the reluctant Miyasako to help them. Kaya remarks to Mai that Miyasako is actually very polite, forgiving, and compassionate, and he’s a good choice for class representative, he just needs more self confidence.

They manage to finish making the puppets, but Saki and Mai need to make a detour before they can make it to the library, so they instruct the class reps to go ahead of them. While they walk, Kaya admits to Miyasako that she used to be shy about public speaking as well, which is why she started reading to children, and he’s surprised that she could ever have been shy like him. They finish setting up at the library, and the kids are getting antsy with Mai and Saki nowhere to be seen (guess why) so Kaya begs Miyasako to help her with the puppet show. He’s afraid that he’ll mess up but she tells him it’s fine and gives a great speech about not letting your fear of mistakes overpower you. He agrees and they go through the show.

As you probably guessed, our heroines are running late because they ran into Moerumba, who is determined to defeat Precure and reclaim the fountains. They put up a strong fight and defeat him, and make it to the library in time to see the end of the show. Kaya stands up and tells Tomoya that she was really glad to have met him, and they hug. Saki reveals what she went out of her way to get: special panda and cat-shaped bread, after the protagonists of the puppet show. Miyasako tells Kaya that he’s willing to give the whole class rep thing another shot, and she encourages him to do his best. Then the episode closes on the protagonists, who were watching this exchange, giving V signs.

and they all lived happily ever after

It’s a pretty basic plot, but it helps to flesh out the girls’ class a bit, and as I recall the two class representatives become recurring characters after this.... and I think they continue to do library readings and puppet shows? I might be misremembering on that point. Incidentally, this plot about two characters finding themselves by performing for small children was also seen in another Toei series, Kamen Rider Hibiki, the year before this aired. I can’t help but to wonder if they took inspiration from that show. If they did, it might be the best contribution Toshiki Inoue has ever made to either series (only 5 people will get that) But that’s a big stretch and it’s not a very foreign idea to think that the writers came up with this idea independently, and it’s implemented differently so I’ll end the comparison there.

Unlike a lot of the supporting cast for FWPC and Max Heart, you actually get some decent character growth in this episode. Miyasako makes progress towards bettering himself and overcoming his shyness, which is a pretty good arc in and of itself but like I said I think he gets more.

Moerumba sadly doesn’t have a lot to say or do in this episode, but he does ham it up for his short scene in Dark Fall, which I admit I didn’t talk about. He took a shot at Gohyaan, which is always worth it.

Also he does this little cha cha dance and it’s the best.

I’m about out of things to say about this episode. Next time, we get to meet Kenta’s family!

EDIT: Oh yeah here’s a fun bit of trivia! Miyasako and Kaya are both voiced by seiyuu who would go on to play main characters in future seasons. Miyasako shares an actor with Nuts from Yes 5/GoGo, while Kaya is none other than Yamabuki Inori, AKA Cure Pine!

Everlasting Flower (masterpost, tag, AO3 series) is an AU in which Ouryuu allowed Zeno’s blood to give Kaya a kind of immortality.

Chapter summary: After some bonding with Yoon, it's time to say goodbye to the city of books.

"At some point, I asked myself: What's the use of living forever without a purpose, if you don't give back to the world? Even if it's short term, life has a meaning. If I can heal or save someone, I'm really glad! But staying with the others is just as important.”

Yoon found Kaya at the attic they used as bedroom, sitting at the desk and humming a song. She squished and ground the leaves of a plant into the walls of a wooden mortar with the cadence of the song she sang. Yoon couldn't understand the lyrics, but the melody was similar to a folk song from the Fire Tribe he knew from childhood. He wondered if she was humming an original version in words long forgotten by even their ancestors.

He waited next to her. As a fellow herbalist, he sure didn't like to be interrupted while he was working on medicine. He wasn't going to do something as unpleasant to her.

Eventually, she put down the pestle and stretched her arms behind her head.

"Hey, Kaya?" Yoon said.

"Eeeeeeek!!"

She jumped and took the chair with her. After glancing at the source of the call, she exhaled with a grimace.

"You scared me, Yoon... How long have you been there?"

"Like five minutes." He cocked his eyebrow. "Couldn't you feel my presence behind you like Zeno does?"

"Geez, no. I'm not like him, I normally can't tell those things. I have no sixth sense, I'm normal." Yoon bit his tongue. He knew what she meant to say, but that wasn't the right adjective to use. She grabbed the chair from the floor and put it back against the table. "What can I do for you?"

"I finished it." He held the book in his arms towards her. I was wondering if I could..."

"Go grab the one you want, yes!" she beamed. "You don't have to ask me."

"Thank you very much," he nodded and ran to the shelves to put back the book he had read. Yoon had already considered his options beforehand, so he only had to find the title he had chosen already, written on the spine of a blue one.

"Can I see?" Kaya asked, with a curious look in his eyes. Yoon raised it up. She seemed to think about it for a bit.

"Oh, that one's really, really outdated," she sighed and walked towards the shelf. "There's this horrible side effect to one of the recipes that was discovered later, so please don't read it. Here." She took a different volume and offered it to Yoon. "It has another title and I used a different pen name, but it's pretty much like a newer edition of that one. It's good. Except for the last chapter; there are way better techniques today."

"Wait, whoa," he gasped as he grabbed the book. "You're the author of these?"

"Uh, yeah," she blushed. "These are mine. From my notes over the centuries. I also have some diaries about geography and history and personal stuff I don't want to forget, but most of my published books are medical textbooks."

"That's so cool!" Yoon said with fervor. It had been a dream of his to write a book one day.

"I... I figured... uh... more people need that knowledge to pass down through generations. It can reach more patients if you teach others, rather than just tending everyone yourself."

Yoon skimmed through the pages. It was a rather old book, at least fifty years old or more. The pages were quite yellow. So impressive! He couldn't help but admire Kaya even more.

"Is it hard? Writing a book?"

"Actually, yeah!" she laughed. "I'm not a genius so it takes me ages to get anything done. You need to do two difficult things." She raised her index and middle fingers. "First, you need to research and learn, so you know what you're going to write about and how to say it, and it has to be current, real facts. Second, you need motivation to want to sit down and write. And most times, having both at the same time isn't going to happen. Not to mention the time."

"You have all the time in the world, though."

"I do but I also do other things, like to travel with Zeno or tend people or sometimes do other jobs that aren't healer-related. Sometimes we don't have ink or paper with us either! So I take it easy and wait for my books to become pretty obsolete before starting anew."

The ink and paper was a problem Yoon knew well. He also realized that her rest stops at the library were likely with the purpose of authoring books and filling up her diaries, rather than actual vacations.

After all, caring for patients... In Kaya's condition, it would be insane to do that all the time. Yoon had been thinking about it, ever since she had revealed her story to them. It bothered him and concerned him a lot. He sat on Zeno and Kaya's bed, crestfallen.

"I don't understand how you do it..." he whispered.

"Well, I carry notebooks with me for when I discover new stuff. Then I use what I've written in other books and update it with my notes."

"No..." He closed his fingers against the book cover and pressed it. "How you can be a healer while being immortal. Doesn't it... dunno, break your heart? Knowing you're outliving everyone? That no matter how long you live... some people will still die on you?"

He had treated sick and wounded people he was unable to save. He couldn't even imagine how many people Kaya had met and failed to save. Had she gotten used to it? Was she desensitized? Did she still see them as important souls to help at all costs like Yoon, or were they akin to tiny birds with broken wings to her, nearly a goddess among mortals after living for so long?

And in a more personal sense... Three faces flashed in Yoon's mind. He knew the dragons would die soon. Lately, he had realized how much worse it must have been for Zeno, finally having brothers again to then losing them too soon. So he could, sometimes when the journey was arduous, feel the weight of dread in his chest that he usually tried to bury deep within and forget. He knew the fear of outliving, even if in a lesser scale than those two.

He felt the bed bouncing down. Kaya had sat next to him. When Yoon looked up, the youth and spark was gone from her dark eyes. He saw a sorrow most ancient in her stare, he saw her real age for once.

"...Constantly, yeah," she finally said. "Even after all these years I cry sometimes, when it's too unfair. It's never easy and it'll never get easier."

"Then why? Why haven't you quit?"

"Hmmmm." She clutched the hem of her kimono. "The same reason you haven't quit, I guess. It's just the right thing to do. In fact... I think it's better for them that I do care that much. Doctors and nurses should keep their heart, don't you think? Even if it hurt us."

Yoon said nothing, but he knew what she was saying. She looked ahead, through the window. Her voice turned softer and kinder.

"At some point, I asked myself: What's the use of living forever without a purpose, if you don't give back to the world? Even if it's short term, life has a meaning. If I can heal or save someone, I'm really glad! But staying with the others is just as important. You know, hundreds die alone because no one will treat them." Yoon knew. Kaya's voice broke. "I could have died alone myself at seventeen. It's so, so scary! Even if you prepare yourself, it crushes you. That's why I don't want people to leave this world on their own. Even if all I can do is giving some solace and hold their hands until it's time? I'm willing. Even if I'll mourn them and sob for days, I'll get better, I'm not alone. That's why it's okay. That's why I still help."

She looked at Yoon and moved a thumb to wipe a tear from his cheek. He hadn't noticed he had started crying. Kaya then put her arms around him. While she didn't cover much of him, being the same size roughly, her hug felt warm and cozy. Her hands, which smelled vaguely like the fresh herbs she had been grinding, moved to caress Yoon's hair. He embraced back firmly, unsure if she was comforting him or if she was looking for comfort from him. It was probably both, he concluded.

"Keep it, Yoon," she murmured after a long silence, still hugging him. "Keep that big heart inside your chest, never lose that humanity. I've met so many geniuses in this field who lose themselves and stop caring about people. But you mustn't. I mustn't. Even if it tears you apart, please keep it."

"You better believe I will," he grumbled with gritted tears, restraining a sniffle. He felt a kiss on his temple. After his journey with Yona and the others, after seeing and fighting against so much poverty, how else would it be?

And she was right. He wasn't alone. He had everyone and even Ik-soo back home. Thinking about the future was just unnecessary pain. They lived now and that's what mattered.

"Oh? Can Zeno join the hug?"

They looked at the threshold: Zeno had just entered the room. That day he had his hair braided. Yoon had thought that morning that Kaya was making up for their time apart in creative ways. The boy unhanded Kaya but before he could say no to the offer, a dragon had coiled around his body. He could hear the girl —the woman—'s giggles as he resigned to his fate.

"Zeno, Zeno! Yoon is so kind and considerate and cute! The cutest of them!" Kaya chirped.

"Yep!"

"Zeno, Zeno! Say, can we adopt him? I really want to adopt him!"

"What the hell?" Yoon cried, annoyance written on his face.

To his surprise, Zeno let him go and stood in front of his wife with a serious expression.

"No, Kaya. That's out of the question."

"I know. But..."

"He's your mother-in-law, Kaya! It makes no sense to adopt my mom!"

It was Yoon's turn to get up, anger piling up, while the other two were snorting.

"I'm neither your mother or your son, you eternal seventeen year-olds!!" he yelled.

"Eternal eighteen year-old," Kaya corrected with a grin.

"Argh!" He grabbed the book and walked towards the door. Before he could leave, he heard Kaya's voice.

"Being your mom was a joke but... Please do think of me as an older sister, okay? These adults keep forgetting you're younger, this one here included, and they should be the ones nurturing you just as much as you nurture them."

Zeno mumbled some excuse Yoon couldn't hear, but he stopped when Yoon turned to look at Kaya. Ever since Ik-soo took him with him, no one else had been so conscious about his needs.

"I... I appreciate it," he blushed lightly. "I think I'll do that."

He left immediately, embarrassed, before Zeno or her said something stupid again. After that conversation and learning so much about Kaya, having her in his strange family of sorts was an honor.

"Okay, you can open them up whenever you want!" Kaya said after handing out the last package. She was bouncing on her heels while everyone opened their gifts.

The first one was Kija, perhaps because of his large hand. He stared at the wooden figurine and the bottle with confusion.

"What is this?"

"The bottle is home-made bug repellent. It smells a bit weird so I added some flower scent so... now it smells like a weird bouquet instead, sorry. But it should keep mosquitoes and crawlies away! The other one..." She smiled as she looked at the vaguely dragon-shape statue. "To be honest, it's a present I got but I think you should have it. You see, it was given to me by ancestors of yours, long ago. It's time it returns to the hands of Hakuryuu Village."

Kija looked like he was going to cry.

"Kaya... Thank you very much for sharing this piece of our history with me. It's an honor. May I ask what it's for?"

Kaya-chan, I can't believe you and Lord Ouryuu still haven't had children! Here, have this fertility charm. My sister carved one and prayed to it before her wedding night, and they've had four bundles of joy so far! You have to continue the lineage of the Ouryuu as his wife, so please take it with you so you can be blessed and fulfill your duty.

"F-For good luck," Kaya lied without losing her smile. She didn't have the guts to throw it away, because she considered Guen's family as her own, so she took it as a souvenir instead. Not like it mattered since Ouryuu's blood made it impossible for her to get pregnant, but those ladies were too exhausting to argue against. "Oh! And I'm teaching Yoon my plum sauce recipe so that should be a present for you in a way."

"Ooooh, what a pretty comb!" Yona said with sparkles in her purple eyes. It was lacquered black and had tiny colorful flowers painted on its design.

"That kind of comb has big teeth with large gaps too, so it should be great for your curls. I have one to do Zeno's hair and it's amazing for unruly sorts. Ah, the other present is medicine for..." She made a pause and lowered her voice. "They're special painkillers. For cramps." Yona understood immediately and reached for Kaya for a hug. She returned the gesture.

"Thank you! They're both so useful!"

"A sharpening stone and..." Hak opened his eyes wide. "No way, is that a bottle of Fuuga Galebrew?"

"Saw it at the marketplace and I figured you haven't tried it in ages."

"Wow, thanks!"

"Not fair, I want to try that sake as well," Jae-ha sighed.

"Well, I guess I could give you one glass, Droopy Eyes."

"Yessss." Jae-ha's grin faltered once he saw his present. "A fan? Well, it's beautiful but I don't think I get it, Kaya-chan."

A smiling face and a wink came to Kaya's mind, long gone and a bit blurry but still alive in her heart.

"Some time ago, Zeno and I traveled with this girl for a few years. She was like a sister to me. You remind me of her sometimes and I think she would've liked you a lot, Jae-ha. I know you have your own fighting style but that fan was her weapon. Maybe you could find it a good use one day?"

"Oh, I see." Jae-ha touched the edge of the fan. It drew a drop of blood he sucked immediately. "Not bad, actually. I can't refuse the will of a young lady so I'll take it." He then turned to the booklet with interest. "Are these music sheets?"

"Yup! Should be handy for your traveling artist shows. Besides, I want to hear you play."

"But of course!" Kaya felt relief when she saw him smile. She didn't know Jae-ha that well, so she had feared he wouldn't like his gifts. She looked at Shin-ah, who was observing and touching his new soft scarf.

"I heard you're cold sensitive and I saw this pretty sky blue fabric. It's still a long way for winter, but for trips to mountains they're nice to have."

He nodded.

"And two bags of pistachios, one for you and one for Ao. Since they don't grow in Kouka, I figured you haven't tried them yet?"

He shook his head. She moved to him to pet his hair.

"I hope you like them, then!"

"Thanks, Kaya..."

"I can't accept this, Kaya," Yoon said as he pushed his package against her.

"Why?"

"I should've suspected you were up to something when you asked me what books I had liked the most yesterday. But this one is yours! And the other is from the library!"

She laughed but her hands remained behind her back.

"We have copies for both in the second building. Don't worry about it and accept them! Or if you want a different book you couldn't read yet, we can check if there's a copy of that one instead."

"There's... There's really no problem? Just like that? Are the librarians fine with it?"

"As long as there's at least one copy left they can remake again, they won't mind because it's me asking."

He looked torn, but the power of free books won.

"...I have enough notes for this one, so I want to check out this world atlas I saw," he said. "After we pack our bags, though."

"Sure thing. You guys take your time."

"Doesn't Zeno get presents...?" Shin-ah asked after munching a pistachio.

"Zeno got new robes," Zeno grinned, laying in bed on his belly and chin cupped inside his hands. "Also, just being with Kaya for a few days is my present."

"Smooth," Jae-ha teased.

"Ah, is it okay if we pass by Ryusui first?" Kaya asked. "They have a really nice marketplace and I want some supplies that are cheaper there."

"Sure! It sounds like fun," Yona smiled.

"It's a gorgeous town. We'll have lots of fun seeing the stands there," Kaya nodded.

"Its settled," Yoon said. "Let's hurry and pack now, rare beasts. I still have to check the books."

"Yeeeeeees!"

Kaya was sure it was going to be a lovely trip.

Well, here it is, the last part. I want to thank you guys for your patience. I've been building up to this chapter since even before I finished the main fic, especially the "you can't adopt your mother-in-law!" joke. So here it is and I hope you've liked this miniseries. I don't know if it met your expectations but that's how I envisioned the way they'd meet Kaya and how they'd get along with her. The timeline for The Library is between the Lushing Forest arc and the Sei arc. They're still stopping by the same marketplace so the canon events (meeting Ayura and Tetora, Yona buying the lapis lazuli for Hak) should still happen despite Zeno not needing a new outfit anymore.

My friend is asking to do vidcalls when working out para daw mas mamotivate ako kasi may kasama ganyan. I immediately said no and told him that I'm very insecure of how I look while working out kaya ayoko. Then...

K: Wala ka namang need ika-insecure

Me: That's not how it works

K: ah oo nga ano? Pero gusto ko pa rin sabihin na wala kang need ika-insecure.

He then proceeded to ask if we can just call through voice para may kasama pa rin ako pero di ko maiisip na makikita ako ganyan 🥺

Idk, im just so soft in this simple gesture. Di niya naman need ng kasama magworkout because he's been doing it eversince, ako tong nagsstart pa lang magbuild ng habit to workout.

He also motivated me to read more, for the past 2 months, I already read 3-4 books ata. He asks me about the book I'm reading at the moment, if I'm done with it. Give me encouraging words and even scheduled kindle nights where we vidcall each other and read in our kindle.

edit: He also asks permission nga pala for everything. Grabe, as someone na di pa nattrato nang tama (lmao), sobrang new ng concept ng consent sakin. He's the one who taught me that and he sure walk the talk. idk kung ano pinag-uusapan namin kahapon but he just realized that we never hugged each other kasi di naman ako touchy and hr asked if okay lang ba ihug niya ko pagnagkita kami like.?? sir di pa natin alam kailan yan pero you're already asking consent for it sksjfndbusms. My other WIP was first referred to as Dreams, then Wraith, and now it’s called Untitled because idk how to name a series and I can’t think of anything and it makes me frustrated sooooo better to just sweep it under the rug and call it Untitled :P

2. Where did the idea for your book come from?

My current WIP came from a dream! There’s a specific scene that I dreamt, and then built around that idea, ending up with the massive manuscript that still has one chapter to go :P I actually don’t read scifi often (nor romance) but that’s what I ended up writing!

My other WIP came from an idea my friend and I were discussing when we were younger. She was talking about how the human mind doesn’t really make new ideas but innovates them (in a sense), so if that’s true, where do our ideas of vampires, angels, demons, gods, etc. come from. I then built a story around that which kind of feels a bit matrix-y. I love it, it’s my first baby, I can’t wait to go back to editing it.

3. What genre is your current work in progress?

NA Scifi/romance for Altered.

I’m not sure if my other WIP is scifi or fantasy TBH, I think I tried to make it a scifi but when I think about it it seems a little fantasy-ish :P either way, its NA and horror!

4. Choose the actors for your movie rendition.

I don’t have a dream cast made up for Altered, perhaps I’ll do that before I start my round of edits! For Untitled, I made character profiles with images and whatnot, so I’ll write the names of the people I included!

Untitled:

Drew- Elle Fanning

James- Sam Claflin is who I put in my character profile, but he doesn’t really fit that well—haven’t found someone perfect yet!

Isabella- I have Raffey Cassidy in my profile (when she was young)

Santina- Malina Weissman (young) / Kaya Scodelario (older)

5. Give a one-sentence synopsis of your book.

Untitled: Drew King, a young girl who was cast aside after a tragic incident, finds meaning in her life only when she closes her eyes to dream, entering a strange world of gods and monsters; when her father disappears, the man in her dreams tells her that her father isn’t dead, but has delved into the dreams with her, and she needs to find him before he can never return but this requires accepting the possibility that her dreams may have more truth to them than she ever imagined.

Altered: After a third world war, and 400 years of Silence, the world reopens its borders and the utopian city in which Thea Holden lives welcomes Ambassadors to tour their city; all of the Ambassadors are strange, but one is stranger than the rest, and Thea has the summer to find what it is that’s drawing them together, and what the consequences will be.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agent?

??? I have literally no idea :P I don’t think I’m quite far enough into the process to start looking into this. If this answers the question: it’s my dream to be traditionally published, but I have absolutely nothing against self-publishing, and if I did the appropriate research I would definitely self-publish!

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft?

For Untitled, I wrote the first draft in 4 months (I probably could have done it fast, but I’m a university student so I had exams for a month :P)

Altered is currently unfinished, but I started writing it in April and I am currently on the last chapter (with a possible epilogue after), so about 3 months!

8. What other books would you compare your story to?

I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure, book-wise. Untitled has elements that remind me of the Matrix series, and Altered reminds me in some ways of Tomorrowland~

9. Who or what inspired you to write the book?

I don’t think that there was anyone who specifically inspired me to write my books, I just love books in general and wanted to add my own ideas to the material that’s “out there”. I’ll be honest, writing is way harder than I imagined it would be, but it’s so much more rewarding as well—like when people message me saying they liked something, or they felt what I was feeling !!!!!!!! it’s awesome!

10. What else about your book might peak reader’s interest?

I really like the idea of writing a story with a big twist, but trying to weave the hints into the story naturally so you don’t really see them :P I want it to be so you can read the book, get to the twist, and then skim through again and see all the hints that I dropped for you :P both of my stories have some twists in them that I’m pretty proud of ;)

Also, there’s conflicting feelings between my first and second WIP. The first is very obviously dark while the other plays along as a bright and bubbly story, but it has some dark spots to be found ;)

SUMMARY: Seventeen-year-old Amaya Sloan didn’t really like this. The situation was just thrust upon her. What was it you ask? Well, its to tutor Hawkins’ resident Bad Boy: Billy Hargrove. Though things take a turn and it isn’t just about tutoring anymore...

CHAPTER SUMMARY: First day of tutoring; it's much worse than they thought.

A/N: Yeet! I wanna thank @strangerstuffandthingsimagines for helping me by editing. Its really helped. <3  Also, it was pretty fun delving deeper into Billy’s character. Poor boy. Anyways enjoy the fic and as always, feedback is appreciated.

Amaya never really thought about the challenge it until the day itself arrived.

Her fingers drummed against the mahogany table of Hawkin’s library, both out of nervousness and impatience. Her other hand held her chin as she browsed through the notes and extra cue cards she went as far as making just for the sake of Billy learning something.

She sighed at the empty space beside her. Steve had offered to stay with her, to help ease her conscience but something came up and that left him to babysit the Party again. She remembers him apologizing profusely during dismissal but she dismissed it, assuring him that she can handle it. He gave her a sympathetic smile before being dragged off by the impatient kids.

The girl looked around in a bored manner. Not many people were around, just a handful. The librarian was behind the desk, as usual, her dark brown hair, now streaked with thin strands of grey tied up neatly. The rest were either students or bookworms that seemed to be so immersed in whatever they were reading. The afternoon sun filtered through the windows, giving the place a calm feel to it.

Amaya looked down at her watch. The time set for them to meet was 3:35 in the afternoon. It was already 4:05. She groaned internally, folding her arms under her and laying her head upon it. To pass the time, as well as to be productive, she reviewed the notes herself. Another minute passed by before the sound of wood scraping against the linoleum floor made her perk up.

“It's 4:20 where the fuck were you?” She scolded, seeing Billy take a seat across her.

He merely shrugged, an easy-going smirk on his face as he leaned back, an arm slung over the back of the chair. If the librarian weren’t so strict, he would’ve propped his feet up on the table. A dark purple bruise where the neck and shoulder meet started to bloom. As soon as Amaya’s gaze landed on the hickey, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

“Of fucking course…” She mumbled to herself and pulled out a textbook. “Please tell me you at least brought some of your notes… if you have any.” She mumbled the last part to herself.

Surprisingly, the denim-clad boy bent down to pull out a worn out paperback spiral notebook. There were creases on the cover of the notebook as well as the invisible pen marks dented upon it whenever it would sit under a paper Billy would write on. He threw it on the table with a small thud but nevertheless, it resounded throughout the quiet walls of the library.

The librarian’s head snapped up, the beads on her eyeglass’s strings swinging from side to side. She hushed them a little violently before turning back to her work. Amaya bit the insides of her cheeks as she inwardly cringed. Her face burned red with embarrassment.

God help me. She prayed silently before clearing her throat and sliding the cue cards she had made over to him. “Okay so let’s start with Ternary Nomenclature.”

Halfway through the session, Billy lost interest and started to let his mind drift to his other thoughts. He thought back to the good times in California where he would walk the boardwalk and let the sun beat down on him during the summer, hanging out with his friends at the beach or riding the waves on a surfboard or on a boat. He remembered how cold it would get in the bay area during the winter and how so many people would visit to see the seals and Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay Area. Most of all, he thought of his mom.

God, he missed her so much. He missed how safe he felt in his mother’s arms like he could be a little boy again and just be shielded from the world. He missed how his mom would comfort him whenever his dad was being an asshole and how she would put him to sleep at night. He remembered how she taught him to drive with the iconic blue Camaro she got him for his birthday. Billy remembered how he took care of his mom when she started getting sick and frail, how he made sure she was comfortable, had enough rest as well as sleep and that she ate enough.

The blond was snapped out of his thoughts when he felt a stinging pain on his arm. “Ach- hey..!” He whispered loudly and shot a glare at the girl across him.

“You weren’t paying attention. Come on, focus.” Amaya huffed before starting over again.

As she read out some descriptions of the elements and compounds, Billy rolled his eyes and turned to face the window. All he wanted was for this stupid study session to end. Another flick to his arm made him return his attention to her.

“Hargrove. If you weren’t going to pay attention why did you even come?”

The blond’s furrowed brows relaxed after a moment of silence. He fell back into his easy-going attitude and propped his feet upon the chair beside him, his arm swinging lazily as it hung lazily over the backrest. “Why do you care so much, Sloan? I didn’t think you’d be this desperate to have my attention.”

His response made the Filipina freeze in place. A furious flush of crimson dusted her cheeks. Billy smirked at her reaction, silently gloating at how flustered she was. Whether it was from anger or something else, it didn’t fail to amuse him.

Amaya cleared her throat after a while before adjusting her notes, an effort to act unaffected by what he just said. Her gaze flickered at her surroundings before uneasily settling back at Billy. The said boy ran his tongue across his pearly whites. Once more, Amaya cleared her throat and returned to her former state.

“Are you done, Hargrove? We really need to get back to studying.” She said and straightened up.

Billy’s head rolled back lazily as he let out a quiet groan. “Ugh, what’s the point? There’s only like what,” he looked down to his watch. “ten, fifteen minutes to time? We’re both suffering here just being in each others’ presence. Let’s just book it and get out of our hairs already.”

The other gave a humorless laugh and tossed her pencil onto the table. “As much as I’d like to, we can’t because you can’t keep it in your fucking pants and caused the time to be extended. If you don’t want your precious time to be taken up by this, put this ahead instead of your other, how should I say this, sessions.” With a sigh, she ran her hand through her hair and held it out for him to shake. “Deal?”

Billy gave a sigh of his own before curtly shaking her hand. “Let’s get this shit done then.”

After what seemed like forever, Amaya snapped her textbook shut and started packing up. “Alright, we’re done. Now get out of my sight.”

“Christ, so harsh. And I thought we had something special going on.��� The blond teased before fixing his own things.

She simply rolled her eyes for what seemed like the umpteenth time before pushing back her chair and heading out to the parking lot’ leaving Billy behind.

Outside, Steve waited along with Lili and Dustin in the red convertible. The engine revved to life when the brunet saw her exiting the building. The shotgun door opened and she slid in, heaving a heavy sigh. The older of the two Sloans heard a sympathetic click of a tongue from behind her.

“Worse than what you expected?” Dustin inquired.

Ever since Amaya started hanging out with Steve, he had considered her as an older sister. Besides, he may or may not have a thing for her younger sister.

“Ugh.”

“That’s a yes then.”

Steve turned to her. “This is why I told you to quit while you’re ahead. Now… you’re pretty much too late.”

She smiled sarcastically, her head resting against the vinyl of the car. “Gee, thanks mom. Very positive.”

“*Kaya mo ‘yan ate.” Lili piped up and leaned forward, only to slump back once the brunet pulled out of the parking lot. “You can do it. Just… just maybe picture someone else?”

“I hope my tired brain can think something up.”

“Why don’t we just head out to Benny’s? My treat.” Steve suggested. He chuckled when he heard the joyous cheers of the kids behind him and the relieved sigh his friend let out.

And for a quick moment, Amaya forgot all about tutoring Hargrove the next day.

Been long time not see you, tumblr. Whoops, since tumblr took a big amount of data charge, so i couldnt write as much as usual.

3 months left till 2021. Masih berkutat dengan permasalahan utama dimasa pandemi; finansial. Akhir September gue memutuskan buat ngejalanin usaha kecil-kecilan dengan jualan donat kampung. Walau sebenernya gue sendiri love-hate relationship dengan donat.

Gue memang suka baking dan fotografi, walau gak seniat orang lain untuk ngekonsep food photography nya tapi berkat vsco, hasil foto tetep ciamik.

Satu hari di bulan 9 gue bikin donat, udah lama gak bikin cemilan yang sebetulnya simple tapi TRICKY parah, gak terhitung udah berapa belas puluh kali gagal dan mostly kegagalan yang gue alamin karna bentuknya yang gak pernah mulus, susah ngembang, gak muncul white ring kaya donat mall. Bentukannya masih aja jelek tapi untuk rasa mah tetep enak, empuk tahan 3 harian lah hehe.

Seperti biasa, abis masak langsung foto dulu cari angle yang pas-editing lalu update status. But somehow, it looks so damn pretty! Ternotislah status itu sama sobatnya ibu dan beliau nanya dijual apa nggak, gue jawab aja nggak soalnya dari bentuknya kurang bagus kemudian doi bilang itu udah bagus nanti mau pesen. Wow! Gak pede sayah hahaha, pada akhirnya tetep dibikinin walau degdegan dan sebelumnya sempet nyari video tutorial cetak donat gimana biar mulush dan menul, then i found the easiest methode. Voila!✨ Beneran cakep banget, menul-nangis akhirnya bisa juga bikin donat secakep ini. Dikirimlah ke temen ibu, beliau suka dan bantu promosi berikut ke grup ibu-ibu kemudian berujung pada pesen 20 biji perorangnya. Kaget cuy! mana gue masih ngadonin manually pake tangan gak pake mixer, mau nangis tapi seneng hehehe. BUT IT JUST THE BEGINNING🔥

Gue bangun pagi banget, sedikit kelabakan juga soalnya tangan gue pas subuh kerasa sakit gak ketulungan soalnya emang gak biasa ngadon untuk ukuran ½ kilo, pas bikinin pesenan yang pertama lancar jaya hasilnya cakep sadly waktu bikin yang kedua gagal dong stupid me gulanya kebanyakan jadi bantet terpaksa cancel. Keesokannya degdegan lagi tapi alhamdulillahnya berhasil, hingga pesenan yang ketiga dan keempat gagal lagi dong karna gue rounding peradonan terlalu kecil alhasil gak sebesar adonan sebelumnya, gue stress cuman karna donat. Sedih paraah gue gamau ngecewain pelanggan tapi ya ada aja gagalnya tuh :( ibu gue tetep nyemangatin buat gak nyerah gitu aja, namanya mulai bisnis pasti ada aja kendalanya. Meskipun respon pembeli setelahnya penuh tanda tanya, enak atau engganya gue gak tau dan ini cukup bikin gue down, hehe. I think if they keep silenced, then it's not.

Walau secara komposisi resep donat sama jenis rerotian kaya cinnamonrolls itu sama tapi menurut gue lebih sulit donat. Adonan tuh gak bisa diprediksi, meski pas dipegang lentur dan nyampe tahap windowpane tapi pas digoreng kadang malah gak ngembang, gak mulus. Jujur aja gue sebenernya capeee banget!! yalord ada bae salahnya, pengen berhenti aja tapi yakali baru juga kurang dari sebulan udah nyerah wkwk. No no, gue gak boleh nyerah gitu aja kudu semangat maju karna usaha tidak akan mengkhianati hasil, cia. It's okay banyak ngalamin kegagalan dan kerugian, tapi dari situ gue belajar untuk lebih sabar, konsisten latihan, teliti dan bisa nyari tau dimana letak kesalahannya.
