Setting aside how great Wasserstoff, Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff, and Sauerstoff are...

I notice mercury was Quecksilber -- English cognate being quicksilver

This drove me to dive into the etymology further ..as is my wont

German Silber and English silver were no-brainers. I was more interested in the Queck- part of the German word

And, indeed, it turns out that quick and Queck- are cognates, but then I found....

I've literally never heard (or at least noticed) this word during my 3 years of living in Germany thus far.

Keck and all of its loans have similar definitions of 'sassy, cheeky, bold, and spirited'

Funnily enough, Norwegian extended the definition to mean 'quick, fast', like in English

...and I thought I was done here
