It kills me that rhato has Jason having spent all this time in the mountains with the all caste meditating and working through his inner conflicts and he winds up able to manifest his soul into swords that kill true evil and then he hardly uses them. Also what is true evil? Since it is his soul is it based on his understanding of evil? If so then DC let my boy kill the joker with his soul swords! You owe him one after like 40 years of classism and victim blaming and disrespect!
Friend, I’m afraid you and I are going to be waiting a looooong time for dc to do right by Jason. Pretty sure the world economy will be collapsing in the face of a second viral apocalypse, and dc will still be happily publishing bullshit dragging Jay through the mud.
I totally agree, the all blades are such a missed opportunity. I love the idea of Jason ‘Robin gives me magic’ Todd as Red ‘I’m actually fucking magic’ Hood. And they would totally shish kabob the joker. He’s true evil by anyone’s definition.
In fact, given the joker’s cockroach like tendency to come back from just about anything, seems like magic soul swords are just the thing to kill him dead for good. And is it really murder if it’s done with magic soul swords? Sounds like divine intervention to me. Batman can’t throw you in Arkham for carrying out spiritual destiny, right? Hmm … this is sounding more and more like a good fic prompt 👀
Thanks for the ask, anon!! 💙

the neighborhood watch by alexaaffect (anything by them, really)
both harm reduction and echoes of future past by orangesky37 (my beloved @kindlingkeen here on tumblr) are favorites of mine
pain is just pain entering the body by femme_morte (@theeclecticenquirer here on tumblr) is fun if you like things that have medical things going on and lets ya test how much you learned watching house md and greys anatomy

I can’t believe I’m going to defend Johnny Lawrence, and JJ&H by default…
In regards to Johnny being firmly against Robby going to trade school…
There’s been a lot of posts/conversations about this scene.
So let me preface this by saying Classism is real, it has real negative effects and real negative long-lasting impacts on people, the economy, etc.
No one’s denying this.
So let’s address two things about Classism.
One: Classism devalues. Classism is meant to devalue. It devalues people by their status — which includes their job status.
Two: Classism also divides. Classism ALSO includes utilizing division by deterring certain people from college because ‘well it’s not a realistic goal.’ … What a coincidence that seems to be geared towards minorities (ie people who are from low-income households, POC, neurodivergent.) Because they just don’t deserve to be there.
Johnny is not the most educated guy in the world, and he doesn’t have the most depth; he certainly wouldn’t be considered knowledgeable about social issues and things outside of his own existence (ie being a white straight cisgender dude bro).
He lacks self-awareness and how his words/actions affect other people.
Again, no one who has been paying attention disputes this.
He DOES know what it’s like be told you’re not good enough for something.
And it’s important to acknowledge where he is coming from.
Like I said, he’s not educated (no pun intended). He doesn’t understand the classism involved, the way it works…
He doesn’t know how it affected it him — He just knows it affected him.
Like the saying goes, people don’t always remember what you did, but they remember how you made them feel.
He remembers being devalued in those jobs. He saw that brochure, saw himself, and he remembered how much a loser he felt like… how aimless he was… being trapped in a negative cycle…
Now. He has a history of blaming the wrong things… and people (cough Daniel LaRusso cough)… for his circumstances.
Clearly, there’s more to this than his job status… like his performance, his (lack of) customer service skills, his (very bad) attitude.
All he knows is he doesn’t want that for his son. He’s already failed him enough as it is. As misguided and classist as it appears, he wants better for Robby and he wants to do better by Robby.
He was acting on his feelings, feelings he lacks the education to fully understand and appreciate.
And yet they are just as valid.
Where they come from is valid.
His classism isn’t rooted in superiority, he’s not being elitist. That is not what he said.
His response is rooted in fear and personal negative experiences — those experiences being on the wrong side of classism and gatekeeping… being subjected to classism.
Him being “rich boy” once upon a time doesn’t negate what he’s gone through.
(Also I don’t remember the “not everyone wants to go to college” crowd shitting on Daniel for assuming Sam wanted to go to college… in fact I remember people defending it saying he wants better for her, look what he went through.”)
And that’s an important distinction that needs to be acknowledged.
And don’t get it twisted, HOW he expressed those feelings was a problem — And there was a HUGE golden opportunity to address this and address the root of this mentality that was clearly ignored in CK (so so many opportunities lost in this show).
Subsequently WE need to be careful about missing the opportunity to discuss what’s not being said.
Because this also needs to be talked about if we really want to address issues like this.
Edit: and btw. My father was one of those kids. He had the highest marks in his class.
He was also one of the few brown kids in a PWS.
His school counselors graciously took him aside to tell him “he was smart enough he could go to community college.”
Never mind that they encouraged his white peers that he had outperformed to go to University.
And they used the same excuses:
We’re just being realistic — it’s expensive… blah blah blah blah… There’s nothing wrong with trade school…
Of course there isn’t.
But that’s not why they said it.
Sure there’s nothing wrong with learning a trade. But they know they’re not going to be as economically successful as a University grad with a white collar job.
That’s why they said it.
Classism and racism work this way too.
By discouraging you from finding your potential in well paying fields so that with rich kids don’t have competition.
Even the most well meaning counselors will tell you “don’t bother because it’s not realistic.” They speak from internalized classism brought on by personal experience.
The focus is supposed to be on potential. You are not supposed to steer someone away from their potential and use the excuse “oh I’m just trying to be realistic… gosh there’s nothing wrong with THIS path…”
The question is: Is this the right path for them and their potential?
If your focus is on “being realistic” and not their potential, then you have utterly failed as a counselor and adult.
It’s just another avenue in which classism sustains itself.
Johnny seems to be the only one to recognize this, and called the counselor out. As former rich boy, he knows how things operate.
Yes he squandered many an opportunity, but Robby wasn’t even given these opportunities. That’s where his issue lies, and he’s not wrong.
That there is much to discuss and dissect about it, and address, doesn’t make him wrong.

eli should've been allowed to be mad at robby about the shaving thing for longer than five minutes, in this essay i will-
#he said “shut up don't talk to me” and that's it#YELL AT HIM MY LOVE#SCREAM AT HIM#CALL HIM NAMES#and then robby never actually apologized#it was just “well cobra kai got to my head”#like that's gonna make eli's hair magically grow back don't pmo#he didn't even really acknowledge that what he did really messed hawk up#idc that they're “both ex-assholes now”#if eli doesn't want to talk to robby he shouldn't have to#sigh#robert when i catch you#cobra kai#eli moskowitz#hawk cobra kai#robby keene#CORRECTION (just watched full the scene again): he went “if this about the mohawk i'm sorry”#idk why but to me that's not a good apology#especially since it was immediately followed by “cobra kai turned us both into assholes”#also comparing the shaving to eli breaking demetri's arm trashing miyagi-do and the mall fight kinda makes no sense to me writing wise#because he actually didn't attack sam and robby he attacked demetri and they were in the way (not saying that it's fine what eli did btw)#he made the sparring deck blueprints to try and show that he's changed and all in#and he apologized for breaking demetri's arm because he knew it was wrong not because someone had to show that they were mad at him#and going “if this is about” just makes it a bad apology because he sounds inconvenienced that hawk is mad#he never sought out eli to apologize he just assumed that eli got over it/didn't care that much#why are you trying to start a conversation with someone you wronged without apologizing first ???#so yeah if you can't tell robby's apology rubbed me the wrong way

one of the most arbitrary Touhou headcanons that I'm really attached to is that Reimu isn't actually wajin at all. I came up with a really great and clever explanation of why I felt it was actually really important, but unfortunately it was during a long transit ride and I forgot it as soon as I left the train. I don't know, something about how the most emblematic person in the paradise for the outcasts should be from a minority people herself... or something.
Usually I'm most passionate about it in the form of Okinawan Reimu, but lately I've been thinking about the Hakurei clan being naturalized Korean immigrants like the Soga clan. Or maybe Indian? But with the Hakurei Shrine's komainu wearing a kariyushi shirt, Okinawan feels most natural to me.

So glad I took Minsc back to the Guildhall. His conversation with Nine-fingers is hilarious. The look on Nine-fingers' face. The confusion. The horror. The dawning realisation that no, this is not a joke.

All the tour groups in Springfield should be very proud of me for how well I refrained from sharing all my fascinating Lincoln facts.
#there were so many school groups!#a giant one came in RIGHT AFTER i entered lincoln's cabinet room#part of me was screaming 'children i NEED to tell you about all these idiots and their insane drama!'#a smarter part of me understood that would be super weird#so instead i regaled different individuals of my own traveling party after we had the room to ourselves#then at lincoln's tomb we lucked out in getting there during the ten minutes of the day when school groups weren't there#which meant we got a personal tour from a guide who seemed thrilled to have grown-ups to talk to#he and my dad chatted about fishing for a long while in the entry#it didn't feel disrespectful because it totally felt like the kind of conversation lincoln would have understood and joined in on#and then we went on our way but the guide then chased us down to share all the fascinating lincoln stories as we went along#(shout-out to lefty you were great)#and then a school group found us so we made a graceful exit#but outside a teacher was explaining to a different group about how robert was significant in his own right so he's buried at arlington#and the RESTRAINT i showed in not immediately informing them that he was present at three presidential assassinations! it was rather heroic#and then when we toured lincoln's house the guide (who accidentally made it clear he was a revolutionary war buff)#(which made it a bit hilarious he was stuck with lincoln)#asked for questions before we started and someone asked about lincoln's 1860 election campaign!#aka one of my SPECIAL NICHE AREAS OF OBSESSION!#you cannot imagine how desperately i wanted to tell him ALL ABOUT seward and thurlow weed#anyway it was fun to go back now that i actually know stuff about lincoln#but it was also a bit frustrating because now i know how much they leave out#(though there was cool new info and artifacts)#(the blood-stained piece of laura keene's dress was very morbid and very cool)#also it reminded me that i still have that book on the 1860 election i've yet to read and the hype is so real#presidential talk

not ‘baby jason was a sweet little cherub, way easier to deal with than his predecessor’ or ‘baby jason was an unhinged murderchild imitating the violence he viewed as normal due to his poverty’ but rather ‘baby jason was a snarky, clever, extremely eager to please kid and when he was triggered he fought with everything he had to protect himself and others’
🤨 Did you sneak a peak at the outline for my baby Blue Jay AU that I keep pretending doesn’t exist, anon? Seems like you and I are on the same wavelength. Baby jason was a snarky, clever, extremely eager to please kid and when he was triggered he fought with everything he had to protect himself and others is exactly how I think of the little guy.
Canon actually supports this version of him. In fandom, the tire theft origin story gets a lot of attention, but the canon details of what came after are so important. After Bruce gets his tires back, he makes a deal with Jason not to turn him over to the cops or social workers if he goes to stay at Ma Gunn’s School for Boys (Batman #410).
Tumblr media
Turns out the school is a front for criminal activity.
Tumblr media
Jason nopes right outta there and gets picked up by Bruce again for boosting tires (Batman #411).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason tells Batman about a plan to steal from the museum. Then Jason shows up to foil the crime himself because he didn’t think Batman believed him. It’s after this that Bruce takes him home.
Tumblr media
Bruce likes to talk about how he tried to put Jason on the right path, but really Jason’s heart was already there to begin with.
