the three aspects of the Hokage office that Anbu Commander Izuna is responsible for:

1: When Minato takes up the hat, he asks if the veil can be removed. The style of the entire outfit is old-fashioned, but the veil is especially annoying. It's got sealing stitched in it, as expected of something owned previously by two Senju who'd come from the era where the clan had still specialized in weaving, but even so...Minato's sure he could replicate the seals in much more concise format, without the need of the veil.

But Kushina pushes back. "It's necessary." She tells him, "Izuna himself demanded it's inclusion.

Minato sighs, but nods along. If it's part of the tradition it's part of the tradition, and ultimately he's still honored to be wearing the thing...even if, upon reflection, the thing it reminds him most of is a uchikatsugi.

He hides a laugh at the idea the Nidaime, famously sharp-worded man that he was, had been wearing a wife's veil, common enough at the time that others would've recognized it as such.

2: Commander Kozo has his eye on Kakashi as a potential successor. It's still early-on, but the boy is obviously talented beyond his peers. More importantly, since the tragic death of his teammates, he's thrown himself into protecting his squads with a fierce tenacity essential for the position; and he's shown himself gifted at earning the respect of his direct followers. Itachi, even more prodigiously gifted then Kakashi, had shown the boy a deference of respect he hadn't afforded to many others.

Because of this, Kozo indulges his hopes, and slips training for the position into Kakashi's more routine tasks. He teaches him about squad selection, walks him through the messy hierarchy of Shinobi, and answers questions most Anbu are not allowed to ask.

"If you're commander, you'll have to give reports directly to the Hokage." Kozo explains. "There's a way to do it. Traditional. Minato tried to put a stop it it, but- well, Hiruzen is well known for preferring the old ways with most things."

Kakashi nods once, but affords Kozo his full attention as he demonstrates the form. He kneels, legs against the cool tile. his hands pressed flat in front of him, and he dips his forehead to touch the cool stone. His back aches- he's getting too old for this nonsense. He hopes Kakashi will take over soon.

"Dogeza?" Kakashi asks, studying the form. Kozo relaxes, slides back to sit more casually on the ground and let his knees take a break.

"That's right. You hold it for the whole report, until the Hokage dismisses you." He wasn't certain if Kakashi, as young as he was, would know such an uncommon bit of etiquette. But the Hatake were an old family, it stood to reason he'd picked it up somehow from his father. "The second Anbu Commander, Uchiha Izuna, put it into practice. He said it was important to maintain the chain of command, to keep the deference by the commander clear."

Kakashi nods again, his serious little face absorbing the information. If he actually gets the position one day, as Kozo hopes he does, he'll likely see through that explanation just as well as every following Anbu Commander had.

3: Tsunade, already well on her way to drunk, offers Kozo the new bottle.

"Godaime-" He tries to refute, and she hushes him, a finger sloppily pressed to his lips. He doesn't allow himself to be swayed; he's seen her pull this move on anyone who tries to stop her from drinking and might be amenable to her persuasions.

"First sip. That's the rule, right?" She taunts. She's unfairly pretty when she's sloshed, all artfully ruffled robes and flushed cheeks. He's well aware he's not her type- she just likes teasing the Anbu. One of the only perks of the job, apparently.

It is the rule. Damned Uchiha Izuna. Kozo takes the bottle, and the smallest sip possible from it. "Not poisoned." He tells her, voice dry. As if a kenjutsu expert will have a better sense on that then the most talented healer in the history of the world. At least Izuna had the excuse of being the poison expert in his day. Tsunade smiles at him, snags the bottle, and chugs the rest.

Her lips rest where his went first. Damn Uchiha Izuna. She swipes her tongue on the rim, meanspirited creature that she is, and he adds Damn all the Senju, too.

The Competition (part 3)

Pairing: Okita Souji x fem!reader

Synopsis: A few weeks had passed and you weren’t as bad as you expected to be compared to them. You enjoyed everyone’s company and felt relieved that they were nice to you. Everyone opened up to you except for one person— Okita. Even when he helps you, he still was aloof around you which was unfortunate. He doesn’t talk about himself like how the others do. Even though Kondo was mainly the instructor and boss, Souji wanted to help you in other aspects such as your speed and sword skills.

You were suddenly beaten down hard from the force of Okita’s bokken clashing with yours causing you to fall backwards. “Oops, sorry about that!” Souji stepped back and gave you a heartfelt laugh. He has been trying to be gentle with you. You could tell the level from his attack power and yours is too big of a gap. He sometimes can’t help with his overwhelming speed and power in the moment when he spars with you or others.

It’s been a few weeks with them and you enjoyed everyone’s company and time. You were unsure how they felt about you. The dojo was a mess normally and you took over Kondo’s cooking in a nice way to give him a “break” when in reality, you couldn’t eat the inedible food he serves to everyone.

“Oi! Weird girl! You’re cooking for us again, right?” Hijikata draped an arm over your shoulder. He quickly pulled away from him.

“Stop calling me that, and ya I can cook something later if Kondo is okay with that.” With a quick huff, you noticed that Okita wasn’t anyone in sight.

“Well, whatever. I’m starving…” Hijikata flopped on the floor and Nagakura went over to check on him. Kondo was talking to one of the higher officials from what seemed like to be the military centre. Was he still trying to be a Kenjutsu professor there? You went over to dust the floor from all the training from earlier and get water from the well from outside.

Your eyes found Souji playing and laughing with a few of the kids who always came around when they were bored. What was this feeling that tugged at your heart? You remember them coming around a few times always asking if Souji was around. Every day you learn something new about him. He liked kids?

“Kondo-san is looking for you.” Abiru stepped outside and noticed your focus was on something else.

“Oh, I’ll find him then.” You were embarrassed and thankful Abiru didn’t question why you were watching Souji. It was odd but your fascination for him only grew over time and even before you met him.

You walked over to Kondo’s room and saw him reading a book and drinking tea. “You needed me?” You stopped by the door and he nodded.

“I noticed your progress is getting better. I hope Souji hasn’t been too hard on you the past few weeks.” He grinned as if he was proud of you. You had barely met the man but this brought you some joy.

“Ya… I guess. He’s been great! I’m just curious how he is the strongest for someone… his size?” your question made Kondo laugh.

“He just is, ever since I took him in.” Kondo stopped himself from mentioning how Okita is a demon child which makes him different from the others. Souji can’t control his battle instinct which could lead to him hurting others by accident. Kondo knew that and still looked after him. You admired this side of Kondo for being caring for him.

“You— You raised him?” you quietly asked. Kondo always kept his grin and kind features.

“It’s a long and painful story,” Kondo began while taking another sip of his tea.

“he was abandoned by his sister when he was nine after he protected themselves from a few ronin. I happened to see the incident and decided to take him in and become a disciple here. I wouldn’t bring any of this up to him, he may look tough but he’s a very kind person.” Kondo told you this. You had no idea he suffered from abandonment as a child. He seemed very distant from the others at times, but the next moment he would be fooling around with some of them. Maybe his past doesn't bother him?

“Of course, I had no idea. He has helped me a lot with my training. So as a few of the others…” you muttered.

You had assumed Kondo was checking in on how you were liking his dojo. Of course, you liked it and preferred it over your other dojo.

Over the next few days at the Shieikan dojo, you still practiced the Tennin rishin-ryu style barely getting the hang of it. Souji was busy or not around so you’ve been alone most of the time despite you could’ve sparred with Hijikata or Nagakura when they asked.

“You’ve gotten a lot better since the time you arrived here!” Someone clapped behind you. Okita was in his casual green kimono. You wondered how long was he watching you swing the bokken for. It didn’t matter, you could never be in the same league as him anyway. Was it even a competition still?

“Ya… I think I’m going to take a break.” You put the bokken away and proceeded to walk inside where some of the members were exhausted from their training. Kondo had cooked ahead of time but you were too late to offer, seems like he wasn’t reading from your cooking recipes.

“Not this garbage again…” Hijikata stuffed a handful of uncooked rice into his mouth.

“Shut up before you upset Souji if you make fun of Kondo’s cooking again,” Abiru looked worried but Hijikata shrugged like he didn’t care if he took another beating from him.

“Hey hey! No need to get upset,” you mumbled but all you received was glares from some of them. Souji asked you to sit with him outside which was kind of surprising. Everyone was taking a break it seems and were busy again arguing with one another and Yamanami putting sense into them like usual.

You walked back outside and sat down next to Souji on the porch as you drank some herbal tea in silence while glancing over to see him petting a black cat. “Do you normally take care of them?” You broke the silence.

“Huh? Oh! Ya, I do.” He quickly grabbed your hand to pet the ball of fur on his lap. You thought it was cute how he was such an animal lover. The cat was purring loudly and liked being scratched. How many strays were there? 10? 15? They keep on multiplying and Souji refuses to let them starve. He and Kondo would sometimes give whatever leftovers to them.

“See, she likes you.” he said but before you know it a few more kittens popped out from under the porch. They seemed a bit skittish around you but not with him. He didn’t look at you as he went to pick one of them up. This was another reason you shouldn’t judge someone based off what rumours say.

“My previous dojo had a few cats but they wouldn’t let anyone come up to them… I’m glad you’re someone they can trust.” You tried to give a cheeky smile. He was happy to hear that he was someone they could trust. Yet, he still was saddened from what Kondo told him of your dojo in private when he asked. You were also private and kept your past in the past.

“What was it like with your dojo? If you don’t mind telling me,” he sat back next to you putting one of the kittens in your lap.

You smiled and were somewhat surprised that he wanted to know about your previous dojo. “I didn’t really choose to be a part of them. My parents disappeared when I was young. I can barely even remember their faces since it’s been so many years. I was found by the dojo owner of the Tamiya-ryu and my fighting instinct is why I was made a disciple there.” You couldn’t help but remember all the memories from that dojo. The members treated you as a nobody and acted like they held higher authority over you.

“They really picked a lot of fights with us,” Souji softly chuckles but he wasn’t upset or mad about it. You wondered why they did, you only heard from the few members as to why they tried to attack Kondo’s dojo was because of ego?

“I’m sorry they did that…” you muttered in embarrassment. They put the entire dojo to shame including you.

“Don’t be, I’m glad you left them. They seemed weak and you’re not.” His words lightened your mood and brought a smile to your face. He was always nice to you, which made your heart stutter a bit. Just as you were going to say something else, Kondo walked outside to where you two were.

“It seems you two are getting along?” he raised a suspicious brow but Souji just smiled and nodded. Kondo had never seen Souji bond with anyone like this. He cared for his friends and took his training seriously, but friendly conversations with someone were quite rare. Souji enjoyed your company and didn’t act aloof around you as he used to. He preferred his space a lot of times when the others were fighting or arguing, Souji didn't really get involved in their shenanigans and preferred being outside in the company of cats.

“Ya of course! Why wouldn’t we be?” you awkwardly laughed before standing up and running back inside.

“I see,” Kondo didn’t pressure Souji to say anything about what you two were talking about.

Kondo thought it was interesting how you jumped from his interruption and quickly left. Kondo looked down at Souji who was grinning at nothing in particular. It was nice that someone who shares a similar past with him is getting along despite you were from another dojo.

Souji normally kept quiet while watching his friends spar against each other. Whenever they ask him to spar, it normally ends within a few seconds. Even sneak attacks don’t work on Souji, but Nagakura would still try from time again even though he gets knocked out usually from Souji’s quick reflexes.

Kondo grimaced and still never judged you for being coming from a shitty dojo. Even Souji was from another dojo as well but was kicked out for hurting everyone on accident. Kondo was an observer and could tell that Souji in the past few weeks was particularly growing fond of you because of a lot of things. Your sword skills and kind personality were one.

However, Kondo would eventually need to have that talk with him even if his suspicions were wrong.

Note: posting this before the new chapter leaks drop because I know imma be depressed for a while. Part 4 will be the final to this. I just love and enjoy writing AUs instead of following direct canon events and stories.

At this time there's almost nobody among the Senju that question if she's going to become a shinobi. She's Senju, of course she's going to become a shinobi, with or without ninjutsu.

I think I stumbled on just why Kawahara Reki, the original author of Sword Art Online, failed to show how Kirito became strong: because there's a few shonen that have successfully introduced characters in such a way the reader/viewer immediately realized the character HAD to have trained themselves to the bone. And I'm talking of big names such as Dragon Ball (Goku's first scene shows he lives alone in the mountains, a traditional training place, and the reader knows the kid is constantly training) and One Piece (in the manga the first chapter has Rufy as a child weakened by eating a Devil Fruit. Brief timeskip, and he tells the leaving Shanks he's going to become strong. Other timeskip to Rufy being 17 and we see him use his Devil Fruit ability to INCREASE his strength and punch out a sea monster), with the latter in particular relying heavily on it because Oda hates training arcs and so simply writes the series to let the reader realize the characters are spending a lot of time training or otherwise improving during the voyage (see the flashback scene in the Alabasta arc where Nami asks Usopp to craft her a better weapon, so the reader knows she improved. Or would have if she read the instructions BEFORE the battle...).

Kawahara tried to pull the same trick by introducing Kirito in a VR game as a beta tester for said game, so we can infer he's skilled at it, and dropping the fact he used to train in Kendo... But went overboard by making Kirito an invincible swordsmaster that fights in a way closer to European medieval swordsfighting than Kendo or even Kenjutsu, and broke suspension of disbelief. Progressive, that shows what happened between the defeat of the First Floor boss and the main part of the first arc, improves thing a bit in that it shows Kirito wasn't ALWAYS invincible, but he's still too skilled and fighting European style, too little too late.

oh yeah I forgot the beta tester thing (I did watch the first few episodes when the anime came out).

But yeah like.

I think relying on the beta tester thing might've been better in like. Instead of invincible swordsman, have Kirito go 'Hey if I walk into this wall here I'll clip into the locked room!'. Either in the sense of it being a bug he found that was never patched, or just his general knowledge of what glitches may exist via skill as a beta tester for this game and others.

The daughter of the kotoha Takahashi a previous champion of earthrealm. After her mother had died she was forced to live with her step father kei Takahashi and her half brother kenshi. Hatsune and kenshi weren't that close but they looked out for each other while kei was being resentful towards Hatsune. After suffering through the mental abuse her step father gave her she ran away and was taken in by a kind woman named madame bo who is a restaurant owner. She had learned kenjutsu and martial arts since the age of six from her brother and later on continued with the help of madame bo.

Suchin is the daughter of madam bo and one of her trained fighters she grew up training along side the lin kuei siblings but she later on got separated from them after they allied with outworld. She accepted Hatsune as her little sister despite the fear of being replaced suchin noticed how malnourished she was and that she was on the run from her family made her feel bad and accepted her and later on kuai Liang joined the family and they helped Hatsune unlock her arcana.

Kuai Liang has been living in the shadows of his twin sister lisa Liang and his older brother bi-han but after growing up and finding out the monster his brother had become and more about the plans of our world. H distanced himself and one day he had ran away from their clutches and stayed with one person who he knew in earthrealm and it was madam bo who took him in and later on he met Hatsune and suchin who were a bit hesitant to accept him but warmed up to him nonetheless and he helped Hatsune unlock her arcana beforehand despite the traumatic experience he went through to unlock his.

Kenshi always followed in his father's footsteps and has always obeyed his orders but that was until he met his little sister Hatsune he pretended not to care for her because of his father but he couldn't ignore it when she was harmed or injured. He felt guilt and sadness for the first time when he found out his little sister had run away and despite not knowing where she was he didn't lose hope on finding her and apologies for her forgiveness if he sees her again.

The sister of bi-han and warrior of the lin kuei who served outworld. Lisa Liang was a dangerous warrior but unlike bi-han she was merciful towards the innocent which created distrust between her and other outworld warriors. She looks up to her big brother wanting to be a great warrior like him and help his goals be fulfilled. She also has a twin brother kuai Liang who she loves dearly and swore to protect him from danger even if he can protect himself and she was devestated when the lin kuei told her he had betrayed them but she didn't believe it.

. While not freakishly overpowered in the sheer strength department, she has a strong pair of legs. Meaning any defensive stance she takes doesn’t falter as she trained with Gyomei to build up her core foundation. Also to be on the receiving end of one of her kicks can prove fatal, as she has trained them to the point of shattering bones and an opponents defense.

Below Giyuu, she is not freakishly strong where she can lift extremely heavy things, but you give her something to carry, she will carry it for a long time. Her stamina and durability outlast many of her peers when it comes to taking hits and holding her stance for freakishly long periods of time.

Below Kyojuro when it comes to running, but her reflexes are quick considering she wields two swords.

Breathing style and forms

Iron breathing style

Subsect of mainly stone breath, She mainly learned under Gyomei as his tsuguko, but when she realizes that defense for her frame cannot be kept forever despite her above average strength. And so she finds another style to help compensate with more dexterity. Flame breathing showed promise, and she learned the techniques and building stamina since she and Kyojuro were close friends/frequent sparring partners. Later she realized while flame breathing techniques compensate for the immovable defense of stone breathing, with her dual style it did not feel complete. Now that defense and dexterity was covered, she felt like it could be improved upon with more fluid movements. Isane trained to have the strength to take the hit, but if something stronger hit her, she could not only defend herself, but use their power against them. She didn’t want to constantly use up her stamina and energy, she studied water breathing with Urokodaki so she would have the ability to transfer energy back to the opponent without expense to her physical capability. Basically kind of made up her own subsect using some aspects of two style while based mainly on the defensive stone breathing. In all essence a three way hybrid

Third form(Stone+flame)- Defense and offense dexterity counter (Honed Double edge)

Fourth form(Water)- Full dodge with swirling dual blades to deflect and gain better ground (Steel Maelstrom)

Fifth form(Stone+water)- Mix of powerful grounded attacks with upward and downward slashes (Corrosive force)

Sixth form(Water+flame)- Agile offense with fluid redirection, bunch of flips and avoiding while flowing to find an opening, simultaneously redirecting their attacks to use up their stamina (Metallic Blitz)

Seventh form(True Iron)- A move set where she swings both blades in synch with another for devastating offensive attacks, like a large singular blade (Behemoth blades)

Eighth form- (True iron)- (Valiant Iron Guardian)

Overall Outlook

Because she did not experience an inordinate amount of trauma like many of her other hashira, similar to Mitsuri she brings a new perspective to them as to what it means to not let their actions be dictated by this extreme of loss and weakness. If things get heated and words exchanged, she brings up advice and perspectives to challenge their somewhat jaded views. They often say. “It is easy for you to say.” But Isane is more than willing to help them see how they can achieve it in their own way so to help them heal and be more understanding. In all essence, she knows the toll of demon slaying, that it is training your body and mental state to exceed human boundaries so to better protect others from demons, but what good will that be if it self sacrificing and you can’t be human when it matters most. She reminds them of the importance of their humanity and compassion. Though in some aspects, she is a little naive.

Do the best you can to help the people affected is her mentality

She can make an impact in the world by helping people come out of their ignorance. Change is inevitable, iron used to be for swords, and now it is for Trains and cars. Isane is the embodiment experiencing and embracing change, and so her journey is basically learning to become more malleable while also tempering her understanding and acceptance of cahnge
