A lot of the art/headcanons I see for AUs where Luke and Leia grew up together are in agreement that Leia beats the shit out of anyone who's mean to Luke. Which I don't disagree with, but let's not forget how Luke absolutely whaled on Vader at the mere suggestion of turning Leia to the dark side.

My point being that both twins would be ready to throw hands with anyone who upsets their sibling (despite the fact that said sibling is more than capable of doing so themself)

On the topic of the submas twins being fathers..how would they react to their children getting ready to set off on their own Pokémon journey with their friends? Would they be happy? Proud? Ingo:

Ingo readies his child for their journey as much as anyone can. He teaches them little tips and tricks to help, he shows them how to cook small meals and how to set up a sleeping bag or a tent if they need to do that. He helps them understand the needs of their Pokémon, or how to look up their needs for the new partners they're going to check. Most of all, he makes sure they know that he is there, alongside you, ready and able to help and support them however they need

It's bittersweet, watching Ingo pour love and care into his child that he knows is going to leave, probably for a month if not longer. You do your own tips and tricks with the kid, and make sure they know that checkups are a necessity, just to be sure they're happy and safe. You're not going to coddle them (and you're going to make sure Ingo doesn't either), but you want them to know it's okay to ask for help.

By the time the journey must start, Ingo is teary-eyed but bursting with pride for his little one. You all hug, so tight, so firm, and pepper kisses all around. Your child promises to do their best, and to update you every step of the way. In return, you and Ingo promise to attend their battle with Elesa once they make it back to Nimbasa. They head off with an excited grin and a heart full of determination

Ingo cries the rest of the night. You do too, but you also make sure your poor husband is okay. Empty nesting is not something he enjoys now that he's gotten the taste of a home full of family, so he coddles the Pokémon to near death as a replacement. You make sure to keep an eye out for any eggs he might try to mother, and also make sure to get him the update call as soon as possible before he adopts a bundle of litwicks.

Emmet:

Emmet is. So. Excited. His kids are his light and joy, but he also wants them to get out there, battle, and build a team so that HE can battle them on the subway. This leads to Emmet readying the kids for their journeys wayyyy too early. The kids are just as excited too, so this leads to you being the bad guy and reminding them they have to at least wait until school ends. Lots of pouting that day

That's not to say you're not also excited for the kids! They've inherited their father's interest in battling, so you want them to go out and learn how to battle too! But not all at once! There things to prepare, and as you tell Emmet one night, you're not ready for them to leave yet. He's quiet as he hugs you, but admits that yeah, he's going to miss them a lot too. After that, he becomes less pushy about the preparations, but no less excited.

When the day finally arrives, Emmet's tune almost flips. Suddenly he's clinging to his kids, smothering them in kisses and in tears. He's so very emotional, and the kids are begging you to rescue them. But you just capture them again for more kisses and tears. They're sufficiently loved on by the time they escape you both, racing off to the beginning of their journey

Emmet is a similar mess to Ingo the rest of the night. He's constantly spamming the kids with texts, and complaining to you when the don't always respond or tell him to stop being lame. You have to comfort the poor lame dad for the rest of the week.

With it being Kira's TWRP month, what's some of your favorite Kira scenes or headcanons?

Favourite Scenes:

- The one in the hospital car park where she backflips off the car and puts out the electricity cable with her hands.

- When Allison and Kira swap weapons and kickass while fighting against the twins and Isaac in the locker room. That was such a cool moment.

- Malia and Kira dancing together in the S4 opener.

- When she falls down the stairs in front of Liam then acts casual like nothing happened.

Also, this whole exchange with her parents is gold:

Hardcore Cycles Builds a Championship-Caliber Chopper for Sebastian Vettel

In case you weren’t tuning in this past weekend, Sebastian Vettel bludgeoned the Formula 1 field one last time for 2013 at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo, Brazil. In doing so, the 26-year-old German phenom tied the records for the most grand prix wins in a single season (13) and the most grand prix wins in succession (nine, with a chance to set a new record if he can win the 2014 season opener). Not a bad way to end the season of your fourth consecutive world championship. So, how does Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s superstar shoe plan to spend his off season? Well, we’d guess he’ll be spending some time with family and friends, and enjoying being able to sleep in on the weekends. But we also wouldn’t be surprised if the self-professed motorcycle nut spends at least a little time riding the sweet chopper you see here.

Built by Vettel’s countryman Marcus Walz and his team at Hardcore Cycles, this regal blue bike was actually built in 2011 to commemorate Seb’s first world championship in 2010. But other than the rear fender art denoting only the 2010 title and Vettel’s car number from that season – 5 – on the stylized lower leading edge of the frame, this proper chopper (based on Hardcore Cycles’ Dragstyle model) looks bang-up-to-date. The spokes of the one-off wheels incorporate Vettel’s personal logo, as does the embroidery on the Alcantara saddle. UNFINISHED FIC BEWARE.

There is precious little Atsumu loves more than competing against the strongest and the best. What could possibly be better? When he gets a service ace in against a really good opponent, he feels like he's on top of the world — and, he truly is. It is a show of superiority. He is sending a message not only to his opponents, but it his team, and to all who are watching him. It's the simple message of: I'm stronger!

Of course, players adapt to his serves if they're any good — but how long that takes, how successful they are — all of that matters. Often, Atsumu is one proud man when he sees the true struggle. He completely relishes in the feeling, because that's just the kind if person he is. That's the type of setter he is.

He might have been an adult now, but nothing had really changed from his teen years. He was still a setter. He was just... better now, and still somewhat offended by his twin's decision to quit, but simultaneously proud of Miya Onigiri — look, it's complicated. His life story is not a sob story, but it's got all the angst any teenage boy would have — added when you pile in a twin brother you thought was gonna compete against the world with you and THEN to find that the fucker wanted to make some of the best food to grace planet Earth —

This has derailed, so let's take a short breath and come back to focus.

You might be wondering, how an Olympian found himself in the company of someone who, by the world's standards, was no one really important. He wasn't a fellow Olympian, wasn't in the V. League — hell, Nishinoya Yuu wasn't even playing volleyball anymore.

But, he had. He used to. He had been one kickass libero back in high school, and while some people might not have given two shits about that, well... Atsumu did. It hadn't been a super aggressive thought, but throughout the years, he had wondered why he hadn't heard a peep of the shorter man's name from any circuit or in any of the sports circles. He had been expecting him, just a little bit. He had hoped to compete against him again. To be on opposing sides of the net once more, with someone freakishly strong — wasn't that the best?

However, all of this being said, it just didn't make sense how he was riding a death contraption with a former volleyball player. Said former volleyball player had made it to nationals but never won (Inarizaki had, thank his blessed muscles), and yet... and yet. Death contraption.

The definition of that would be a jet ski for two.

"NISHINOYA, WE'RE GONNA DIE! YER GONNA KILL ME, AREN'T YA?!" Raceous laughter emanated from the smaller man. A large grin threatened to split his face in half. He looked like he was having the time of his life. "ENJOY YOURSELF, MIYA! ISN'T THIS FUN?" "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" was the only verbal response Nishinoya received — ugh, and he used to actually receive his spikes, mother of all fate be damned.

Pride had held him back from asking about the libero, because, Atsumu was at the level where people would talk if he opened his mouth and blurted anything out. Depending on what he wanted to say, he wouldn't have given a shit, but this was not something he wanted people to discuss. This was a personal thing he wanted to keep under wraps. Besides, he had tried to convince himself it wasn't that big of a deal. Karasuno's 'guardian angel,' as Shoyo-kun had labeled him, was none of his concern. He had tons of other strong opponents to go up against.

Still, he had continued to wonder whatever had happened to the guy. He had wanted to go up against the hard working libero more. He had inspired Atsumu a bit, to be honest, with how supportive he was of his team — the way he had stood up to him. But, nothing. Nada. Truly, it was like all lips had been zipped shut and no one was talking about him. Atsumu had been confused, but he tried to forget about him. He kind of succeeded — once he sets his mind to do something, he typically succeeds.

But, he always remembered great players. He remembered the really great players — that had definitely been Nishinoya Yuu. Sure, he hadn't remembered his name or whatever, but that wasn't important. No. 4 from Karasuno, Libero. That had been important. Atsumu had remembered that.

"Yer gonna pay for my therapy bills after this," Atsumu wheezed, completely out of his element as the wind whipped his hair into a frenzy, scent of salt water thick in the air. Nishinoya only laughed, the definition of boisterous and free. "You're a big boy now, Miya! Pay them yourself!" "That's no way my payroll is gonna cover this," Atsumu whispered, feeling as if his entire soul had been sucjed out by this force of nature — Nishinoya, not the jet ski, though that surely had to do something to help. "aHHH NO, PLEASE! DON'T DO THAT THING AGAIN!" "DO WHAT?" Nishinoya called over the sound of the roaring water, and Atsumu's squeamish insides. "THE FLIPS? THAT'S THE BEST PART!" "WE ARE GONNA DIE AN' THEN 'SAMU'LL STEAL MY FORTUNE, FAME, 'N GLORY — 'CAUSE WE SHARE THE SAME FACE!" Atsumu shrieked, words slurring, accent growing thicker as he forced them out. Of course, the small man paid him no attention, other than to yell, "IF YOU'RE SCARED, YOU CAN DEPEND ON ME! I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT ON ONE OF THESE THINGS BEFORE!" "REAL HELPFUL!" Atsumu responded, not quite sure if his sarcasm was thick enough to be heard over his fear.

It's a little silly and honestly all sorts of stupid — but Atsumu doesn't like the water.

See? Little silly! Very stupid! This whole ordeal will definitely ruin his cool image he's worked so hard to build — what a horrible happenstance, he can't let Osamu or Kita ever find out about this. Or Suna, the bastard. Definitely no one from MSBY. He rather die. Bokuto had the biggest mouth Atsumu had ever seen on a human being in the sense that he hadn't been able to keep a single secret to Atsumu's knowledge. Meian, Adriah, Inunaki, and Barnes would probably be varying levels of chill (or, pretend to be).

However... Sakusa Kiyoomi, that singular infinitesimal speck on his damn shoe, would never let him live this shit down. Shoyo... well, he would probably understand. He had known Nishinoya, of course.

Surprisingly, it had not been Hinata who had informed Atsumu of the missing libero's whereabouts. It had been another past member of the Karasuno team that had made it to nationals.

See, it had been after a game. Atsumu was nothing if not supportive of Miya Onigiri (proudest sponsor, also most popular, definitely had all the merch which he did not need to pay for oh no he had a nice brother that way). Therefore, after games, he would grab an onigiri and often chat up kids who had come to the games. Get them pumped up for volleyball, ask them if they thought Kageyama or he was the better setter, hype up the business, et cetera.

It was while he was explaining to a young girl that no, Oikawa Tooru was not superior to him, though he could probably set around Kageyama in circles, he saw his twin chatting up a somewhat familiar figure, though he couldn't put a name to the face. He had said goodbye to the girl by the time it hit him.

No. 3. Wing Spiker. Ace of Karasuno.

I mean, really, the large build and hairstyle made it a little more obvious. He was far more fluffy in person, which sort of made sense. Atsumu had never pegged him down as the super aggressive type, though he had hit some pretty heavy balls back in the day. He had been a dependable ace — though Atsumu had definitely had more frightening and interesting aces before. Call him biased, but Aran was just flat out badass both on the court and off. Bokuto had been both terrifying and inspiring to watch — Atsumu is forever grateful that he got out of his mood swings, because frankly, he would have been pissed if he hadn't.

"Hey! I didn't know ya came to watch," Atsumu says as way of throwing himself into the conversation, confident smile playing about his lips as he shakes the man's hand. "Did'ya enjoy it?"

"Oh! Yeah," he replies, and yes, he is definitely gentle. Different from his game play, but Atsumu knows that it takes all kinds of people to make a world.

And so, it had been Azumane Asahi who had let it slip that Nishinoya Yuu was off traveling the world and... not playing volleyball.

At the time, perhaps Atsumu had been a little too obvious, because his jaw opened and he screeched, "Hu?!" Good grief, he was gonna end up screaming like Hoshiumi — not the image he wanted. Ew. Nothing against the dude, he was fine, but he was nothing like Miya Atsumu, thank you very much. It would be best to avoid reacting in a manner he would. "Ah, yeah. That's Noya for you. Just a hop, zip! And, you're already halfway across the world." "Wow, good for him," Atsumu's clearly evil twin had replied. However, even Osamu had been surprised, it was clear in his tone, but for Atsumu, this had affected him stronger than he thought it would. "Ya mean to tell me, he ain't ever gonna come back to volleyball?" Asahi scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. "I wouldn't be surprised either way. It's best to avoid trying to guess what he'll do. He'll surprise you every time."

Atsumu should have listened to Azumane carefully. If he had, perhaps he would not have been strapped to a death machine in the middle of one of his personal fears, holding on for dear life. Yes, he should have listened more, but when had he ever done that?

About an hour later, Atsumu is thankfully back on land, but he thinks he might just murder Nishinoya or throw him into the ocean — he probably knew how to swim, damnit.

"That was fun!" Nishinoya exclaimed, power posing after they had showered, changed, and met back outside. "That was the longest hour and a half of my life," Atsumu wheezed, still feeling as if his heart and stomach were lost somewhere after a complex flip or whatever the hell Nishinoya had pulled for the greater part of their time together.

This feels so overdone yet I never see it among the greta fanfic realm—the opposites attract trope!! I got this idea after seeing josh and Dorothy Martin standing next to each other at bottlerock and got a tad inspired :)

Greta Van Fleet is gearing up for their summer/fall tour that is the biggest they’d done yet. Touring internationally and across the nation with close to 10 acts in their bill for support. One band is recruited last minute, and it’s a band that everyone likes…on paper. With the turbulent lifestyle of tour, rock and roll, and the fact that Josh Kiszka is adamant about being single, when he meets his match in the form of a woman that couldn’t be more different than him….things become more than they ever could have bargained for. But what’s rock’n’roll without a little bit of give and take?

Josh Kiszka was not a man to get nervous. He didn’t get “nerves” and if he did, he satiated them with a shot of tequila and a drag of something sweet. He was not a nervous guy. So, when he was sitting with his bandmates at their management office, he despised the feeling of his hands getting clammy.

Why, you might ask?

Greta Van Fleet had just been propositioned by their team to add an up-and-coming rock band Absinthe to a leg of their summer tour. Now, the boys had no issues with Absinthe. In fact, they all were aware of the group if not casual fans of them. They were more on the rock and roll side of things, which attracted the likes of old and new artists raising props to them.

“Didn’t they just do a song with The Pretty Reckless?“ Sam asked, leaning back in the swiveling office chair. Danny hummed in agreement, whipping out his phone and pulling up Spotify. “It’s called ‘Bleeding Heart’. Taylor Momsen did vocals.”

“That one is kickass,” Jake smiled, nodding. He was the most outward fan of the band. Their manager surveyed the scene and smiled, before looking at Josh. “You’ve been very quiet. No thoughts on adding Absinthe to a few dates?”

Sam snickered, before rolling his eyes. “Josh doesn’t even listen to them. It’s not like he would have an opinion to weigh even if he did-“

Josh scoffed, folding his arms tightly a crossed his chest. “I just don’t know if they fit the bill. Are they talented? Yes. But do they fit our image? Not particularly.”

This quieted the room considerably. Josh was right—and he knew it. The lead singer of Absinthe, Alex, had just gotten arrested for public indecency while their guitarist—and the only girl in the band—Lennox, was rumored to be the new “bad girl of rock and roll”, whatever that meant. Cocaine, LA parties, international affairs and obscene photos, illicit substances… it was the rockstar lifestyle, but it wasn’t the image that Greta Van Fleet had curated for themselves.

“Dude, c’mon. They’re kids,” Jake argued, reminding his twin that the band consisted of all individuals no older than Sam’s mere 23. “They’re all around our age, Josh,” Daniel reasoned. Josh shrugged, stubborn. “I just don’t really think it would sell. We don’t really do that sort of thing-“

“So you’re saying we’re not rockstars? Speak for yourself,” Jake huffed. “I’m just saying we don’t do it like them, dickwad.”

Their manager sighed heavily. “Enough, boys. Josh, while your concerns are valid, there’s no denying the facts that they would bring in a whole new wave of fans and ticket sales would skyrocket, all in all they’re incredibly talented. We’re booking them, and if you’ve got such an issue, well…you can find a way to work around it. Now, Jake, Sam, come with me. We have that radio interview in a half hour and we need to get going now to avoid traffic.”

With that, the band split up, leaving only Josh and Danny in the room. Danny stood up, tossing a glance over to Josh. “Are you really that bothered about Absinthe?”

Josh cast him a sidelong glance. Danny held his hands up in defeat. “Maybe watch an interview or two. Get to know them as people. Y’know, they are just kids. Remember how much shit we got when we were just starting out,” Danny jested and nudged Josh’s shoulder.

Josh rolled his eyes and nodded, rubbing his temples. “Yeah yeah, you’re right. Ever the voice of reason, Daniel.”

“Always, brother,” Danny smiled before walking out of the room.

Josh, sitting alone at the table, let out a deep breath through his nose. He was fucking nervous now.

Weeks after the news had broke to Greta, they took the tour announcement public. As their manager had predicted, the fans went crazy for the news, saying they couldn’t wait to buy tickets to the added leg just to see Absinthe open for them. While getting their outfits fitted one final time, Jake was informing Josh on the news that was circuiting.

“So, apparently, they’re wanting us to cover Metallica with them,” Jake snorted, from his place on the bench. He was scrolling through an article that Jita had sent him from Rocksound, while Josh was standing, tense. He had gone with a slightly different design for his jumpsuits and this one was being particularly finicky. “Please don’t stab me,” Josh jested through grit teeth, as his tailor looked up at him apologetically. “I can’t sing like James. Are they daft?” Josh asked, annoyance in his voice. “Besides, why would that be a dual cover? Does anyone know anything?” Josh asked no one, as Jake snorted and shook his head. “All I know is that they all love Metallica. Doesn’t mean they wanna do that. You know how the journalists are—they find one little lead and blow it into a stupid clickable article.”

Josh rolled his eyes. His brother was right, but he didn’t want him to be. Josh was honored to play with the band, and had grown to feel a sense of mentorship from the four men, but it wasn’t his speed. If they were going to cover anything with Absinthe, it wouldn’t be that.

“Makes me wonder if we have anything in common with these kids at all,” Josh grumbled as he was helped off the stand and slowly stripped down to his boxers, not wanting to disrupt any of the pins that Sasha, had so carefully marked.

Jake raised an eyebrow at Josh. “You worried you’re not going to be able to hang with the kids, Grandpa?”

Josh sneered. “Like you’re any better. You drink twice your body weight in liquor every night. By the time they get here you’ll be dead weight.”

Jake let out a clipped laugh before standing and gathering his things. “We have to go meet Sam and Danny at the studio—are you coming?”

“Yeah, fucknut. Let me put my clothes on.”

With that, Josh was slowly helped out of the jumpsuit and handed his khakis and white short sleeve that were sitting beside him on a chair. “Glad you’re wearing boxers this time,” Sasha joked, making Josh chuckle. “The stage is the appropriate time for a show, my dear. Not when you’re armed with pins and other sharp things that could harm me.”

She shook her head before cleaning up her station, and Josh was soon lacing up his vans while Jake tapped his foot impatiently on the floor. When the twins were both ready to go, they bid a quick goodbye to the seamstress, and walked out to Josh’s car. Hopping into the passenger seat of the Wrangler, Jake let out a sigh. “Put the address in the maps, will ya?” Josh nagged, as he put the car in reverse.

A beat or two went by as the two rode in awkward quiet. “Y’know…” Jake began, causing a sidelong glance to be cast his way from his twin. “Jita and I have been talking.”

“I would hope so, you are dating her.” Josh huffed, making Jake scoff. “Yeah, anyway…she…well, I…think…God,…” Jake mumbled, stumbling over his words. The car lurched to a stop at a red light and Josh turned to face Jake, face pinched together, pensive.

“Spit it out, already. You gonna propose?”

This caused Jake’s eyes to widen in surprise. “No, no, no, not that, oh my God!”

Josh’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “What’s so hard for you to get out then, anyway?”

Jake took a deep breath. “She’s worried about you. Thinks you’re, I dunno, lonely.”

Josh cast an annoyed glance towards his brother as the lanes began to move again. “She’s worried. About me. Your girlfriend of a few years now, is worried, about me?” Josh asked, incredulous.

Jake glared in return. “Yeah, man. She cares ‘bout ya, and since she’s been around she hasn’t seen you with anyone. Jesus, you’re like a brother to her—is she not allowed to care about you?” Jake’s tone was biting, as he had taken offense to Josh’s defensiveness on behalf of his girlfriend.

“Well, tell her thanks, but I’m fine. I’m not looking to date right now. I enjoy-“ “I know, the troubadour life, but-“ “But nothing. I’m not looking. End of story.”

The air in the car was still tense. Josh let out a deep breath before looking at Jake. “Look, didn’t mean to be a dick. I just don’t need you guys asking me about this. I already have Mom and Dad…every single time we go home… ‘Joshua, when are you going to settle down?’ I can’t have that from you, too.” Josh sighed, and Jake nodded. He patted his brother on the shoulder.

“I just worry about ya, man. Plus, you’re getting old. Soon you’ll be too decrepit for anyone to even consider you,” Jake joked. Josh flipped him off, before getting out of the car.

“So…you not going to propose to Jita?” Josh asked, which brought on a glare from Jake. “Listen, if I’m not allowed to ask you about your love life, you can’t ask me about mine. Every time Mom calls her she makes it a point to bring it up.”

Josh nodded, before shaking his head. “Well, Mom’s not here. So, fuck that conversation. Let us go get shitfaced.”

“Jesus Christ, it’s hot out here,” Jake sighed as he wiped sweat from his forehead. They had just finished their set at the Bottlerock Festival in Napa Valley, and the sun was blazing, unflinching. “All I want to do is go back to our Airbnb that has an A/C and blackout curtains.”

“Shut up, diva,” Josh muttered as he too was also drenched in sweat. The Kiszka twins unfortunately ran hot much quicker then their younger comrades. “Jake, Josh, c’mere!” Sam called them over to where he was standing with his bass tech, his girlfriend Hannah, and their friend Marcus King. The twins embraced Marcus and said their hellos, before Josh looked at Sam. “What, Sam?”

“Han just told me that Absinthe is apparently playing one of these smaller stages in like twenty minutes. We were going to go catch their set, to check it out. Come with us,” Sam said, with an inviting tone but the look in his eye said that this was strictly business.

Josh shrugged. “I’m out. I need aloe and a blunt.”

Hannah frowned, motioning to the twins. “Come on, you guys! They’re small so it’ll only be for a sec, and plus, you guys get VIP,” she giggled, leaning into Sam.

“Share a beer over some rock and roll, brothers,” Marcus jested, and Jake nodded. “You’re buying,” he laughed, pointing at Marcus.

The group slowly got bigger, and by the time they approached the set, Greta had brought with them Hannah, her guitarist, Marcus, Jita, and Jake’s guitar tech. Luckily, they were able to get into the VIP seating because not many people were in this crowd. Beer was dispersed, and they got comfortable. As Josh sat down, he cast an eye towards the empty stage. Techs were doing last minute sound-offs and tests, making sure levels were good and nothing was out of order. Hannah was sitting next to Josh, Jita on her other side. “Oh, I’m so excited!” Hannah squealed, before nudging Josh. “Aren’t you?”

He shrugged, a half-smile appearing on his face. “I’m not too familiar with them.” Hannah’s shocked face made Josh grimace. “How the fuck are you not familiar with them? God, Josh, I’m convinced you live under a rock!”

“Who lives under a rock?” Jita asked, leaning over to join the conversation. “Josh!”

Jita laughed, tossed Josh a coy smile. “Oh, yeah, you get used to it.”

Hannah sighed, before looking pointedly to Josh. “You better take my word for it when I say they’re fucking amazing.” Josh raised his hands in defeat and let out a weak chuckle. “Judge and jury, alright, alright.”

With that, the band walked out from the right wings, all clad in black denim and black leather. The drummer was massive, bigger than Danny and covered in tattoos. The bassist was a skinny guy, not as tall as Sam but built similarly, with long black hair tied up in a messy bun. He was wearing a tiger print shirt that made Hannah motion to Josh. “That’s Dean. He has the best style. And the drummer is Blake.”

The vocalist, Alex, was wearing black leather pants and was shirtless, exposing a large tattoo that adorned his chest and a part of his torso. The guitarist, Lennox, was the only one that wasn’t in Josh’s view, but from where he sat he could see her black Gibson Explorer and her head of unruly black hair.

“Oh my god, I fuckin’ love them!” Hannah had gone full fangirl, Jita cheering along with her in solidarity. Josh had to admit, they were good. Really good. Alex had an incredible command on the crowd and had palpable chemistry with both Lennox and Dean, at one point walking up behind Dean during a guitar solo and put him in a faux headlock before kissing him playfully on the cheek.

As the set got close to the end, Alex approached the edge of the stage. “So, I don’t know if you guys know, but we’re big fans of this Italian rock band called Mäneskin-“ he paused to cheer along with the crowd. “And they’re playing here this weekend, so we wanted to pay tribute to them. Damiano, enjoy the show, baby,” Alex flirted, before he turned and conversed silently with the other three. Seconds later, he turned and they launched into an explosive cover of I Wanna Be Your Slave.

“Goddamn,” Jake muttered, making Josh jump. He hadn’t even realized his brother was sitting to his left. “These guys are fucking good—look at her!” Jake motioned, pointing towards Lennox. The girl was on her knees, playing the guitar solo that was after the first chorus. Josh nodded, swallowing hard.

The cover ended, and Alex said a quick goodbye, before they all went to exit stage-left. Before they did, Alex ran up behind Lennox and grabbed her ass, playfully swatting it as she laughed.

“They’re wild,” Jake smiled. “They seem like fun.”

“They seem like trouble,” Jita said, a small smile on her face. “God knows these guys could use some of that!” Hannah smiled. “Let’s go say hi!”

The group migrated to behind the stage, where the band was standing outside of their bus that was parked there. Two of the guys, Dean and Blake, if Josh’s memory serves, were sitting on folding chairs with beers in hand, a joint in Dean’s other. As they approached, Alex emerged in black boxers and a bottle of Tito’s Vodka. The three started talking to one another, what it sounded like was the guys giving Alex shit. The conversation stopped abruptly as they all noticed the people standing a few feet away, awkwardly.

“Holy shit, you’re Greta Van Fleet,” Blake said. Dean’s face furrowed in confusion as Alex smiled wide. “Shit! Hey, guys! Want a beer? Want a shot?”

The enthusiastic man extended a shot glass full of Tito’s to Sam, who was the closest to him. Sam laughed and shook his head, making Alex cock his head. “C’mon, Sam Kiszka. No shot? No balls.”

Danny and Jake chuckled, Danny nudging Sam playfully. “Ignore him,” Dean said. He walked up and shook each of the individuals hands—luckily the group had lessened considerably. Now it was down to 6–the four bandmates and Hannah and Jita. Introductions were made and pleasantries were exchanged before Blake sat down in his chair again. “So, what’s up, Fleet?”

Jake sipped on his beer that he had graciously accepted. “Wanted to come introduce ourselves. We’ve heard a bunch about ya but never got to meet face to face, and then-“ “I told them about your set! Sorry, I-“ Hannah interrupted excitedly, before blushing. “Nah, sweetheart, it’s okay. You’re a fan?” Dean asked, flirting slightly which caused her to blush.

“We all are, to a degree,” Sam said, as his grip around Hannah’s waist tightened and Dean nodded. “Fuck yeah, man. Well, we’re stoked for tour. Never been to Canada or anything like that before,” he smiled.

“Yeah, we’re all going to be there together,” Danny said, motioning to the group. “Hannah’s going to be supporting us too.”

“Yeah! That’s another reason why I love your band, girl guitarist solidarity,” she giggled as Dean and Blake both nodded in understanding. “Where is she, anyway?” Blake muttered, before standing up. As if on cue, the bus door swung open and who they all could only assume to be Lennox emerged.

“Yo, which of you fuckers took my fuckin’ herb?” She snapped, glaring at her bandmates before realizing that they had company. “Oh, fuck. Hey. I’m Lennox,” she said, stiffly, before it clicked in her head. “Oh, God, Greta Van Fleet! Fuck, Jesus fuckin’ Christ,” the door slammed shut as they all looked at the other men who shrugged. “She’ll be right out.”

“You all have quite the band dynamic, it seems,” quipped Josh from his place beside Jita. Alex snickered. “Lennox is the biggest pain in the ass. They all are. But, I mean, we make decent music and that’s the biggest thing, right?”

Dean punched him slightly. “Fuck off, mate. We’ve all been friends forever. Alex just pretends he’s better then us because he has a persona to uphold.” To that, Dean received Alex’s middle finger and a few light chuckles.

The door swung open again, and this time Lennox emerged with her hair in a half-up bun and a black v-neck and jean shorts on, which was an improvement from the sports bra and boxers she had been wearing prior.

“Hey, guys. Sorry for the shit first impression,” she laughed, as Hannah walked up to her. “Oh my god, hi! Can I just say that you’re so completely and totally badass?”

Lennox smiled slightly and bit her lip. “Thank you. Do I know you from somewhere, you seem familiar?”

“Hannah Wicklund, of Hannah Wicklund and the Steppin’ Stones,” she smiled, thrusting her hand out to shake. Lennox smiled, closed lipped and nodded. “Nice to meet you.”

Conversation broke out into smaller groups, and Josh found himself growing anxious to leave. Jita tapped his shoulder. “You okay?”

Josh shrugged. “Hungry, I think.”

Jita nodded sympathetically. “Well, maybe-“

“Hey, uh, you hungry? We have some shit on the bus,” Lennox asked, as she had been leaning up against the bus smoking a cigarette only a few feet from them. “C’mere.”

Josh followed her onto the bus, taking a sigh of relief at the shade and air conditioning. “We have buncha’ chips, gummy worms, PopTarts but those are Blake’s, leftover Taco Bell from last night-“ she looked up from where she was rummaging through the cabinets and fridge, expecting an answer. “Oh, just water is fine.”

She looked at him for a second before tossing him a bottled water from the fridge. The cigarette hung limply from her mouth, as she took it and quickly flicked it, ashing it on the floor.

“So, you caught our set?”

Josh nodded, taking a drink. “You’re all very talented,” he said, with a smile.

She returned it, before nodding towards him. “Wouldn’t take you to be a fan of ours.”

“Well, who out of us has toured with Metallica?” He quipped, making her smirk. “Touché.”

“You just don’t seem like you’d fuck with our shit,” she followed up, before grabbing a cold beer from the fridge and quickly banging the countertop to dislodge the cap. Wordlessly, she handed it to him.

“You just all seem like you’re very...” “Debaucherous?” She inquired, and he nodded swiftly. “Seems like you’re doing this…I don’t know, for the wrong reasons.” He said, without thinking. Watching the younger woman’s face contort, he instantly regretted it.

A dry chuckle left her mouth. “Heh,” a finger pulling at the small hoop in her nostril. “Listen, I didn’t mean to be presumptuous, but all I know of you all is-“

“All you know is nothing. And, what do you have to say? You prance around onstage in your flouncy little jumpsuits and bedazzled face and expect me to call that rock’n’roll? No fuckin’ way,” she rolled her eyes. Josh’s cheeks burned.

“At least I’m in it for the music,” he bit back, making her scoff. “Uh-huh. Whatever, Kiszka. I’m gonna tell you once; get the fuck off of my bus,” the woman all but snarled at him. He glared back, annoyed that she was getting this heated with him.

“Gladly. This place is a fucking mess anyway,” he spit back, before exiting swiftly. The door slammed behind him, causing the group still talking to all stop and look at him.

“Where’s Lennox?” Jake asked, as he had his own questions for the fellow guitarist.

Josh shrugged before trudging back over to where he had been hovering with Jita, who had now been joined by Dean and Danny, Dean showing them all his tattoos.

“Yeah, and these ones on my wrists are actually for my grandma and ma- Oh, hey Josh!” He smiled, as Josh nodded. Quickly, Jita noticed a shift in his demeaned and quietly pulled him aside. “You okay?”

He rubbed the side of his face in frustration. “Let’s just say…this is going to be one hell of a tour,” he sighed, before taking a long swig of his cold beer.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR FALSE TWINS AU FOR PEACH *raises my hand like an excited child*

She’s a Pokémon Ranger in Training. Pokémon Rangers travel all around and help Pokémon where ever they need to be. Peach would theoretically get to have her own adventures and learn how there are good humans. She wouldn’t have a team per say, since rangers use the top things to get Pokémon to help, but she also could just have a few who are her companions, like with Jigglypuff. Jiggly would help with her missions and used Sing to put unruly Pokémon and people to sleep.

This would also give her an excuse to travel to any and every region, as well as crashing into her brothers on occasion when things get tricky (but not necessarily a given as she could be in the wrong region when, say, Ash and Indigo find Lugia or something). She could also have her own legendary adventures to give her mom grey hair :)

Again just a suggestion but I think she’d make a kickass ranger :D

Three Brothers ; One Lie AU

alright im gonna just round up ALL the info we got on this AU into this one post because i wanna have it all in one place

brief rundown: this is an AU made with the lovely suggestion from @miss-cushion-corner which was just too genius to pass up.

If you don't know, hi, I have a lot of thoughts on Augustus Aquato, along with the whole Aquato family, so i've been kinda developing my own "backstory" (and I put that in quotes cause its just what i think his life was like before Psychonauts canon cause i like thinkin too hard on stuff like this) for Augustus. this introduces his two older twin brothers, Nikolai and Dimitri Aquato!

Nikolai is on the left, and Dimitri is on the right, and Augustus (used to be Amira) is right in the middle :D

unfortunately in "canon" the brothers do end up dying to the Deluge like the rest of the Aquato family n plot continues as normal.

Actual AU plot: but @miss-cushion-corner suggested the kickass idea that they actually DIDNT die!

this is the brothers a little over 20 years later after surviving the Deluge of Grulovia, being swept away by the heavy waters and rainfall before they can find the rest of their family. They tried to find any signs of them alive, but unfortunately, there was nothing.

The brothers managed to keep some stuff after the Deluge, but all of Grulovia was completely underwater. There wasn't much left.

While Augustus was taken to an orphanage, completely broken by his parents death at such a young age, Nikolai and Dimitri were on the complete opposite side of Grulovia with a group of survivors, utterly destroyed at the loss of their family. And especially their baby brother.

Augustus gets taken to America and reunites with "Marona", while Nikolai and Dimitri end up getting wrapped up in finding new higher land for Grulovia to live upon instead of the drowned country it is. No one waited for if the Gzar was coming back. If they were lucky, they'd lose them in the waves too.

Years went on, and eventually the twins grew from mere help to proper leaders of this project. 20 years after the Deluge, and slowly, Grulovia was becoming less like the country they knew, and more like the country the people had always wanted. Houses were built, rules were put in place, they were working towards being officially recognized as a not-new-new country, things were looking up. The twins, too, were healing. Albeit in different ways.

Nikolai was always a leader of the pack when it was him, his brother, and his baby brother, but now it's fully put on display with the people he's had to instruct and direct over the years. More often then not, people will come to him for advice and leadership, and he has no problems with this. Nikolai wears his family's circus sashes on his belt, and has the twins old circus costumes in his room in a lil box, as a reminder of them. He's cheery and kind, but often throws himself into his work too much.

Dimitri is second in command in this operation, standing right by his brother and pointing out the logistical flaws in plans and actions. The two are certainly a team, but Dimitri isn't just someone on the sidelines. He actively helps with smaller stuff, plotting out buildings and checking in on the people. He's not as cheery as his brother, but he still does care for the people and what he's doing and has been doing for the past 20 years. Rather than his circus regalia, Dimitri wears his baby brother's earring (Nikolai was the moon, Dimitri was the star, and Amira was their sunshine) on one of his belts.

Eventually, when the Psychonauts mission to retrieve Helmut's body is called into proper action, Truman ends up getting in contact with Nikolai and Dimitri to discuss getting assistance for this body retrieval mission. The brothers agree to provide extra hands on deck and a place to stay for the Psychonauts, and the mission is go!

Raz gets to come along, as Helmut definitely wants to give the lil guy a hug the moment he's able to for all the stuff he's done for him, plus Raz admits to wanting to see the old country for the first time that isn't in old photos Nona Lucy's begun digging up.

When they arrive, the twins are there to greet the Psychonauts and begin going over plans. Of course that falls flat when, upon asking Raz his name, he tells him he's "Razputin Aquato", to which the brothers admit that they're Aquato's and that Raz shouldn't be related to them, since the rest of the family is death. Raz says his dad and Nona are Aquato's, and that's how the twins learn their brother is actually alive and has been this whole time.

Hello! I’ve been trying to write a cute pre-hisui thing for the twins (I needed something that wasn’t angst, you are a lifesaver) but I was having trouble nicknaming their Pokémon. I decided on Fusee for Lampent (not yet Chandelure), but I don’t have anything for basically anyone else. Do have any suggestions? Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Canonically they don't seem to nickname their Pokemon, referring to them by their names, but I have been nicknaming my 6 IV Submas team after famous trains, so that's something to consider.

The three I've successfully bred so far:

Old Rivets (Eelektross): The prototype for the Pennsylvania Railroad's GG1 electric locomotive, an "old friend" of mine residing at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg

Zephyr (Galvantula): An early diesel, the Pioneer Zephyr was renowned for speed and can be seen in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago

Super Chief (Haxorus): Also renowned for speed and luxury, the Super Chief was the Santa Fe's premier train from Chicago to Los Angeles, and celebrities and regular people alike loved it, especially for its observation cars and phenomenal French toast

The ones I'm still working on breeding:

20th Century Limited (Chandelure): The New York Central's famed passenger train from Grand Central in New York to Chicago. Was famously pulled by beautiful 4-6-4 Hudson locomotives that were streamlined. All were scrapped and I Am Bitter.

Mallard (Archeops): The official speed record holder for steam traction, Mallard hit a whopping 126 mph on July 3rd, 1938 despite being named after a duck. I am pathetically obsessed with this locomotive despite never having seen it in person at the National Railway Museum in York, England.

Brightliner (Excadrill): The R32 subway cars for the NYC Subway were called 'Brightliners' as a nickname. 'Brightliner' is also my player character's name in my Submas team playthrough of Pokemon Sword. (Excadrill had to be named after something subway-related, it's all about being underground!)

Mercury (Durant): The Mercury streamliners served the New York Central, as well. Sleek Hudsons that pulled a lot of named trains, including the above 20th Century Limited, none remain, as stated above.

The General (Klingklang 1) and The Texas (Klingklang 2): There are two separate Klingklangs with different Natures and movesets (Ingo has one, Emmet has the other), so it felt right to me to name them after two trains famously associated with each other. The General and the Texas were both involved in a famous American Civil War incident that later became the loose basis for Buster Keaton's cinematic masterpiece.

Blue Comet (Garbodor): This name may seem like a bit of a stretch, and it is - but the Blue Comet, a train between Jersey City and Atlantic City, featured in an episode of The Sopranos, and Tony Soprano allegedly worked as a consultant for "waste management."

Big Boy (Crustle): The Union Pacific Big Boys were gigantic locomotives designed to haul freight out in the western United States. Eight survive today, one of which is operational and runs excursions for UP's Heritage Fleet now because Ed Dickens is kickass.

Finally Finished Endwalker

Thoughts are below the cut. They WILL contain spoilers.

The most I can give this expansion is an OK. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great, it was OK.

There were a *lot* of pacing issues. At the start, it felt like we were ZOOMING through Sharlayan and Thavnair. But the moment we get to Garlemald it screeches to a slow crawl. Then picks up again once you get back to Thavnair for the 2nd time. And once you leave there, it’s a crawl again. A lot of bits felt as though they were used to artificially lengthen the play time and gave little to no substance otherwise. (Looking at you, Loporrits.)

I felt very disconnected from the story. I feel like they waited too long to hit with the emotional punches and that there was never any REAL sense of urgency, like you might fail, or as though you’d lose your companions for good. At the last zone, when all your companions began sacrificing themselves, it felt very ho-hum. (With the exception for me of G’raha and the twins.) Because you knew, even without knowing, that they were going to come back. They set it up blatantly for it. And I felt like summoning them back BEFORE the final boss kind of cheapened things a little.

Some scenes, like the one where Zenos takes over your body, felt very pointless. What was the point of it? Nothing came of it, he didn’t do anything, you get your body back and he never tries again. It certainly FELT like they were going somewhere with it and then pulled back at the last moment. 

There were some points where there could have been a more powerful impact, but they moved on too quickly for you to really absorb it or were ruined by bits of filler. 

The end boss felt very much like a rehash of Sephiroth from FF&, complete with, “Shall I give you Dis Pear?!” And while I could very much feel sympathy and even somewhat invested in some of the civilizations they brought into play, the whole, “We achieved what we set out to achieve, so now I just want to die” was pretty bleh. 

And Zenos popping up every 5 minutes with, “Fite me bro 1v1 irl” got old fast. (Tho I have to say riding his back as Shinryu was pretty kickass.)

That all being said, there were some things I felt were wonderfully executed. 

I thought all the new zones were absolutely beautiful and well mapped out. I wanted to roll my eyes at the inclusion of Ascians, Emet-Selch, and the world Unsundered, But the way it was included didn’t feel forced, felt more organic than some other parts, and it was a nice way to see what the world was like before the sundering. 

I liked that the prediction I had about Forchenault and the Forum was more or less spot on. And seeing him finally admit his plans, what they were for, and why he was doing it, was genuinely one of the more emotional parts for me.

The call backs to previous questlines--either MSQ or sidequests--and older characters that were no more than footnotes in my mind was a nice touch. Seeing a different side of Garlemald--the civilians and soldiers who were just doing their duty and trying to live their life as best they could and the only way they knew how. Seeing them finally admit that what they were wasn’t what they should have been. 

Vrtra was an amazing additon and I like seeing a Dragon in a different position that we’ve seen thus far. And seeing one with such a disposition that there truly feels like there’s no difference between them and men. 

I do believe that Ishikawa did the best she could with the pieces she’d been given. There were certainly choices made before she took over that should not have been. (Looking at you Zenos.) But she took them and made something of them that I don’t think other writers would have been able to do. And Soken, like always, is a musical genius.

I certainly don’t feel this expansion lives up to the hype, or its predecessor (Shadowbringers) but it wasn’t *bad*. I look forward to seeing what Ishikawa and the rest of the FFXIV team brings in the future. 

(Though for fuck sake, that epilogue. I just want to be DONE with Ascians, thank you very much.)

Things I personally headcanon about We Can Be Heroes since having watched it multiple times because 1. Pedro and 2. my nephew loves it as much as I do:

Missy’s mom may have been a normal human being, but she was a kickass, don’t take no bs, kind and compassionate woman. Plus her patience and tolerance were extraordinary and honestly it’s probably where Marcus learned how to have it in regards to his team... because have you met his teammates?

Speaking of teammates, I do get a vibe that Tech No and Miracle Guy are an item. I also have made it clear in tags off other people’s posts that my multi-shipping ass ships Marcus with either Tech No and Miracle Guy and to assauge that I can also see Tech No and Miracle Guy having also dated Marcus once upon a time, thus making those two Those Exes that Marcus does care about but OMG They’re Insufferable.

One more thing about the team: if it wasn’t for Crushing Low and Blinding Fast, Missy’s parents wouldn’t have met. Yep, I headcanon that because of the slight destructive aftermath those two often bring after a fight with a bad guy, unfortunately it almost caused a casualty with a regular citizen just trying to catch the bus in time before she was late for work! Marcus instantly saw the danger and practically tackled her out of the way!  It wasn’t love at first sight... but it certainly was commiserating in the ER brings good [and long lasting/loving] company.

Still, despite Missy’s mom’s initial brush of death, it didn’t stop it from finally visiting her door. And the thing is that Missy’s fear of losing her father stems from having lost her mother in the most ordinary of fashion. She knows that she’s denying the world of an extraordinary hero, but she [rightly] is selfish and would rather the world lose a hero than chancing the lost of her own world.

It’s also why Missy, despite the events of WCBH, often finds herself wishing she had abilities -- just so she can protect the ones she loves. Missy understands that her greatest ability is not just to lead the team, but to keep them grounded... but it doesn’t help the knots that form in her stomach whenever she sees a teammate (or her father) take a hit.

Wheels and Wild Card were friends first before teammates in their group of young guns next gen of Heroics. Facemaker soon attached himself to the two despite annoying the heck out of Wild Card (but that’s because he instantly recognized a little [soul] brother kinship in Facemaker). Their parents quickly learned [the hard way] never to leave the three boys alone without eagle eye supervision. 

Before making friends with the kids of the Heroics, Noodles didn’t like his abilities and tried his best to hide it. Mainly more an aesthetics thing because seriously his body didn’t look so cool when he activated his powers (or so he thought). It wasn’t until Facemaker and Wheels instantly welcomed into the group that he began to feel more comfortable with his gift.

A Capella has every right to own her power, but before the events of WCBH, she still often felt shadowed by her own mother’s powerful voice. Sometimes it felt like it wasn’t her own and that insecurity, despite it now being small, lingers whenever someone compares her to her mother.

Post-WCBH, Fast Forward and Rewind often team up with Slo Mo. Their partnership on the team naturally transfers to a solid friendship outside of Heroics adventuring. To the point that the trio develop their unspoken language and they’re able to know quite instinctively what the other is thinking or what they need. Fast Forward appreciates it but also kind of hates it because while she’s also formed a fast and solid friendship with Missy, it’s hard to keep Missy’s secrets (like her small, growing crush on Wild Card). Especially when her twin and Slo Mo quickly figured it out with just one look at Fast Forward.

It’s not until they’re teens/young adults that Guppy gets insecure over being the youngest of the Next Gen Heroics. Puberty already sucks and having to watch her peers advance both emotionally and physically is something Guppy could do without. She loves her team, they’re her family, but she often finds herself entertaining the idea of either drowning them [to shut them up] or feeding them to her daddy’s sharks [because OMG TEEN DRAMA IS THE WORST]. Guppy is closest with Ojo despite the [literal] distance they share whenever Ojo has to check back with her planet’s affairs. Just like Guppy, Ojo doesn’t understand the Teen Angst but she empathetic with Guppy and often reminds her that That Phase will pass and if nothing else, Ojo can draw Guppy her sharktank to feed her teammates in.

Top 20 BEST Animated Series of the 2010s-2nd Place

If you’ve been paying attention to Disney’s televised animation, you’d noticed that there’s been a weird trend going on with their shows. Recently, most of Disney’s shows begin as random comedies only to have a deep story to them in later seasons. Some shows soar as they do this right, and others tend to flail as they do it wrong. Personally, I would like to think it’s all because of one show that Disney has made. And since its series finale, the network tries their hardest to replicate it due to how well received it was. And despite the many attempts, no one can do better than--

#2-Gravity Falls (2012-2016)

The Plot: Twin siblings Dipper and Mabel Pines are forced by their parents to spend the summer in Gravity Falls, Oregon. But don’t worry, their parents are not entirely careless. They just sent their only children to spend the summer with their con artist of a great uncle with a deep, dark secret...okay, so they're a little careless. In fact, the parents might be more irresponsible than you think because Gravity Falls isn’t the small backwater town as it seems. Soon enough, Dipper and Mabel will learn that it’s a town with monsters, demons, and a mysterious author who recorded all of the town’s weirdness in his journals. Will the Pines twins solve the town's mysteries, or is their summer going to be over sooner than they thought?

By the way, I FREAKING love this premise! The idea of an entire town being filled with mysteries and monsters is so compelling to me because the possibilities are endless. One episode could be dealing with zombies, and another could be dealing with an entire society dedicated to keeping the town’s weirdness a secret. On top of that, every monster/weird oddity that Dipper and Mable face is just so creative, from a multi-headed bear to even the main antagonist being (and I kid you not) the Illuminati symbol wearing a top hat. And even when the show does use monsters you’ve seen before, they utilize them in a way you wouldn’t have expected. For example, there are two episodes where the characters deal with ghosts. In both scenarios, the methods these ghosts use to haunt the living are not just creative and scary, but in some instances, they can also be kinda funny. There’s just no telling what this show is going to pull off. Or at least, not entirely.

Because another great thing this show has is its mystery element. And I don’t mean just how well it handles mystery within a single episode (although it does that phenomenally too). What I mean is that Gravity Falls has a great overarching mystery that you, the audience, can solve for yourself. With that comes the show’s impressive attention to detail. From the secret codes to solve, to the lines/scenes you wouldn’t have thought twice about, to even a single license plate. That’s right. A single license plate is an essential clue to the show's most significant twist ever. In fact, it’s a twist that fans have solved years in advance due to all the hints that were left within previous episodes. And most of the credit goes to Alex Hirsh and his team. They really put a lot of effort into what many would describe, a kids cartoon. Even though this might just be the most adult kid's cartoon that I have ever seen.

You know how Pixar movies try their darndest to make films suitable for both children and their parents? That’s basically what Gravity Falls does. Whether you’re an adult or child, odds are you will be entertained in nearly every episode because rarely does it feel like an episode leans too far in either direction. If there’s an episode with a serious story, there’s always a silly/lighthearted subplot to keep the kids entertained. And if there’s an episode that is just silly all the way through, there are adult jokes that make you ask, “How the hell did a Disney cartoon get away with that?” Even when the show gets genuinely creepy, it works just perfectly above the line of going too far for kids (except in “Northwest Mansion Mystery." S**t gets real in that episode). Many kid's shows in the 2010s struggled to find this balance, and Gravity Falls is another one of those rare exceptions that somehow feels like it does it without even trying.

And what keeps that balance? The show’s sense of humor, that’s what. Even in the darkest episodes of the series, there is almost a well-placed joke to lighten the mood. And with Gravity Falls, the show relies on four types of humor. Being random, being surreal, being smart, and being dark. And not just dark for a Disney cartoon. I mean that Gravity Falls has a dark sense of humor that I would have expected in something like Rick and Morty (which is fitting because the creators of both shows are actually close friends in real life). As for how funny the jokes are in this series, they. Are. SO. Funny. I’m not kidding when I say that every single episode--and I do mean, every. Single. Episode--has made me laugh at least once. Not even the best comedy shows that I’ve seen have been capable of doing something so spectacular.

But do you want to know why the comedy is so hilarious? And do you want to know what really kept me invested in all 40 episodes? The answer is simple: It’s all because of the characters. Most jokes are funny because the right person said them. I care about the show’s mysteries because the characters make me care about those mysteries. And when the stakes get high, I’m invested because I care about the characters so much that I fear they’ll get hurt. In fact, I was so invested in all of these characters that the series finale made me cry FOUR TIMES due to how heart-wrenching it was. And I don’t weep that often when it comes to specific media. Most of the time, I get a little misty-eyed, and even when it feels like a scene has yanked at my heartstrings, I usually get myself under control before any real tears show up. But with the series finale of Gravity Falls, I was so emotionally invested with this cast that I was tearing up with them as tearful goodbyes were said. This is because Gravity Falls’ writers know that the key to making any story work is to have a great cast of characters. Because it doesn’t matter how epic your plot is. If I’m not invested in the characters winning the day, then I won’t be invested in the story.

Now at this point, you’re probably wondering what is wrong with this show. To that, I say virtually nothing...Okay, that’s not true. There are some problems the show has, but trust me when I say that the good heavily outweighs the bad. Are there occasional continuity errors? Yes. But they’re usually intentional for misdirection or made up with really great attention to detail in other scenes. Are there occasionally bad jokes? Of course. But like I said: EVERY. EPISODE. IS. FUNNY. So who cares if not every joke lands? Are there also a couple bland characters? Obviously. However, they’re either made better in later episodes or forgotten quickly due to even more memorable characters. And now the big one: Are there bad episodes? And there are...in comparison to the show’s usual quality. Even when Gravity Falls is at its “worst,” the writing is still somehow entertaining in its own right. Hell, the real complaint I have involving the series isn’t even about the show itself. It’s about other shows on the network.

Like I’ve said in the beginning, as of late, there has been a lot of modern Disney cartoons trying too hard to be the new Gravity Falls. And they’re all best intentions met with poor execution. The best (or should I say worst) example I can think of is Tangled: The Series, a television series based on Disney’s Tangled. The first batch of episodes was cute, harmless, and downright charming. Then halfway through the first season, it becomes dark, dark, and even darker. And unfortunately, the show’s quality feels like it took a dip with its direction. As for other Disney cartoons, they follow a similar pattern, with the thought that Gravity Falls did the same thing. The problem is that it didn’t. From the very first episode, the show started off by hinting that it isn’t as cute and innocent as it seems. Sure the stories got significantly darker in season two, but they slowly worked their way towards earning that by slowly becoming more dramatic with each episode. And like I said, even at its darkest, the writers still knew when to keep the tone light. So that’s really the only logical problem I have with Gravity Falls: It made people think they need to be more like Gravity Falls.

When I hear that people wish the show was brought back, I honestly don’t get it. The series ended on a perfect note, with very few questions left unanswered. And the unanswered questions were actually answered through other media such as books or comics. And if you ask me, I’d rather have the series come to an end in the way that it did. It had a perfect premise told with fascinating mysteries, funny comedy, infesting characters, and even a kickass theme song (I know that I didn’t mention that last bit, but trust me when I say that it’s so GOOD). Why ruin that by turning it into something like The Simpsons, where a show would just get stale after too many seasons? In the end, while I was sad to see it go, I’m still happy to say that this is always going to be a show that will make you Fall in love with it.

(But the real mystery is: What series is going to top a cartoon that was practically perfect?)
