so I’m rewatching the hobbit trilogy for what feels like the first time in 10 years and boy do I have some thoughts

The Good

- the soundtrack absolutely slaps, another win for Howard Shore

- the riddles in the dark scene was in fact genuinely good

- character-wise I generally don’t have many complaints. like generally good acting, everyone fits their roles pretty suitably, I’m never really taken out of a scene or anything

- I have literally nothing bad to say about Thranduil, no notes, possibly the one thing the movies did Right

- conceptually and stylistically, I think Mirkwood and was well done. very less wise and more dangerous vibes + Thranduil being a bitchy king + Legolas being young and angry Legolas fits into my idea of what Mirkwood should be very easily

- big fan of Bard and his bardlings <3

- I don’t know why I’m noting this specifically but I think the visuals of Smaug’s defeat were actually very good?

The Bad

- the CGI really puts me off. like I don’t know what’s wrong with it, but it makes everything look like a video game or a animated Disney film half the time

- I believe that 16 year old me would have cried sacrilege, but I actually think Legolas should only ever have been a cameo and not a full role

- it’s not terrible but I think the Azog plot is very unnecessary for the story, like we really don’t need to have an extra villain that’s just after Thorin

- so I really like the Dol Guldur plotline in principal but in practice I really don’t think it works at all and it really just gives vibes of trying to make this story bigger than it is. this plot should really have only ever been alluded to imo

- this could literally just be me, but why are Legolas' eyes like that? like i dunno if it's the contacts or if they're CGI'd but they're really weird??

- also might just be me I guess, but Galadriel and Gandalf’s interactions are super weird and it implies that Gandalf is in love with her and I’m not here for that

- man the Ravenhill scenes with Legolas are silly. like I know the standard set by the lotr films of Legolas just being Extra, but this was too much

- I mean it’s not too bad but the dwarves really were not given distinct characters (outside of Thorin, Fili, and Kili) and where they were it was mainly just stereotypes

- there are several unfulfilled plot threads I feel like? what springs to mind the most is like Thranduil’s burns which appear in literally one scene and are kinda never addressed ever again? like that scene could have been cut and no effect would have been made on the rest of the story imo

- I think there are some cuts don’t make a whole lot of sense? for example, at the end of battle of the five armies Thranduil shows up on Ravenhill which is a bit odd considering his last scene was that he wasn’t gonna get involved at all. obviously I’m aware there’s a deleted scene where it makes it make sense, but with the deleted scene it’s a little why the fuck are you here?

The Ugly

- this should never have been three films

- the juvenileness. I think that an unexpected journey is the worst offender but they all do this. like yes, the hobbit is a children’s book but not in the way of basically descending into fart jokes. I also think that this is also in part the fault of splitting the movies into 3 because a lot of the more cringey childish scenes felt very much like padding (pls see Alfrid’s existence)

- I said it before and I’ll say it again, they fully ruined a perfectly good character with Tauriel. the romance with Kili was stupid and the love triangle was even stupider. like I know it was due to executive meddling but genuinely her scenes that weren’t executive meddling were good and they really wasted what could have been good

- we did not need a movie that was effectively a 2 hour battle scene, they should have made max two films and not stretched it into three

- certain parts of the actual battle in battle of the five armies felt very..... video game. so specifically I’m thinking of the scene where the dwarves are trying to get to ravenhill and like first the trolls appear and then the wargs appear and it just felt like a level of a video game y’know?

Other thoughts:

- I didn’t want to specifically put this in a category, but I think it’s true nonetheless: these films lack heart in an odd way I can’t really describe and I think that it very well may be because they tried to make the films bigger than they are

- I don’t think the extended versions really added to the films much in the way they did for lotr. Like I can tell when I’m watching lotr when I’m watching the extended edition or not but I could not tell for the hobbit

- I don’t know what this means, but I can’t think of a single iconic moment or line from these films and that doesn’t feel like a good thing

helloooo! here are google drive links (pt1 + pt2) to my 4hr cut of the hobbit trilogy :-) specs n more details under the cut!

runtime is 4hr 9m (including about 4m of credits)

all scenes have open captions in english (either screen recorded from hbo or manually added)!!

i didn’t have access to the extended editions for this but i was able to find some of the extended scenes i wanted on yt (hence the portuguese and turkish subtitles on a few scenes which makes it a little messy with the english caps sry!!)

it’s split in two parts so i could get the quality up to 1080p but the parts are not like. two coherent separate movies its just one big guy

i basically did this for one reason which is that the hobbit movies r incredibly nostalgic to me and i love them but i avoided rewatching them for years because i have adhd and i just could not be fucked to watch 9 hours of cgi when i only cared about half of it. so here’s the half!!

this is heavily informed by the tolkien edit! i have my own criticisms of that cut (which is why i made one lmao) but i absolutely used it as a roadmap of what the story could survive without so credit where credit’s due

but forewarning because i made this specifically for my own use it’s very tailored to Me and my favorite parts of the trilogy! im a tiny bit of a tolkien purist bc i love the book very much and for aforementioned adhd reasons i always want these movies to move SO much faster than they do. but if there’s a scene that seems pointless it’s there just bc i like it and if there's a line that's missing for no reason it's just bc it annoys me :) however i Did try really hard to make this a good movie experience bc i have terminal film major disease!

here are the most significant changes i made if ur curious:

in general this cut follows bilbo/thorin/the company’s pov pretty tightly! it’s the part of the story that i personally care about most and it’s where the most coherent and interesting arcs are in my opinion!

i could not care less for peter jackson’s cgi action scenes so most of of them are trimmed significantly or sometimes just deleted. this especially applies to the orc chase/fight scenes..i simply cannot sit through the full six minute barrel scene again. the big smaug scenes and botfa battle scenes are also especially cut down

gandalf’s dol guldur plot is completely cut (including radagast, galadriel, etc); ive never liked how the extra lore adds such huge All Of Middle Earth stakes to the hobbit (that's not bilbo’s fight and it never was! he didnt know what he was starting when he started it and neither should we!) so i took the tolkien edit’s line on this one. sorry to galadriel but i know what gandalf was doing during dos i dont need to see it

crimes against the kiliel community: this is my most dudebro tolkien opinion but i have never loved the tauriel/legolas/kili dynamic and they have SOOO many scenes that i Personally just do not want to watch every time. i love the version of tauriel that lives in my brain but i do not vibe w the movie universe >:-( to that end both tauriel and legolas are almost entirely cut and you ARE allowed to hang me in the town square for this. im sad about it

bilbo's prologue scene is moved closer to the middle of the movie rather than introducing that info immediately in auj. i like having the audience find out about thrain and dale only once the company has seen the lonely mountain for the first time! idk if it reads as well as i think it does so lmk what u think!!

iiiii recut thorin’s funeral scene with hozier’s version of the parting glass. this is simply because ive always thought the funeral music was boring and i wanted to have fun! it’s one of the biggest changes i made to a specific scene so pls tell me if u have thoughts....it's at around 1:50:00 of part 2 if you want to skip

there are about 4 minutes of (incomplete) credits because sitting and listening to the last goodbye after botfa ends is a ritual <3

The Drawbacks of Protection (Thorin x Reader) 3/3

Requested by @deepestfirefun : You’re a human girl (surprisingly small one) and Thorin´s One who is fiercely protective of you as are also Dwalin, Fili, and Kili, because of the fact that dwarves find their Ones very rarely these days and when they do, they don´t stop at anything to keep their companion safe and you have been with them from the beginning. So when there seems to be a murderer among the dwarves in Erebor that almost manages to kill you by shooting an arrow at your side, Thorin and his company´s rage is blown out of scale, especially Thorin who will make the culprit to pay what he tried to do.

A/N: 3000 WORDS?!!! why do I find it so hard to write this much for uni lol. The third and final instalment of this series. Sorry for the extremely long wait I was debating whether to keep it 2 parts or 3. Lots of gruesome punishment just remember that dwarves are very fierce people, this level of punishment is quite normal to them. also daenerys watching her brother die is the same vibes as this :)

The door to your room creeks open and your husband enters the room. Meekly, he walks up to your bed, eyes cast downward. You watch him as he stands by your side, looking at your folded hands, refusing to meet your concerned gaze.

“Amralime?” you whisper in khuzdul. This one word alone makes him snap out of his daze to look towards you and you’re struck with the glossy guilt pooling in his eyes.

You expected the company to blame themselves for your bed-ridden state, knowing the fiercely protective nature of dwarves. But you knew that their guilt was nothing in comparison to what Thorin must've felt when he saw you fall to the ground.

You're battling with your own guilt too. Thorin had kept things from you just as you had kept things from him. You had been so excited to tell him after everything had calmed down.

But there's no good news to tell now. Things have changed. You've been stabbed. The baby has died.

How do you tell your husband that the baby, he knew nothing of, had bled to death inside of you. That you weren't strong enough to carry his unborn child. How can you add to the grief and guilt already plaguing his mind?

“Y/N,” his voice hoarse “I am so sorry nunge.” Lifting a shaking hand he reaches to cup your cheek and you tense at his touch reflexively, the action making Thorin’s heart drop and your stomach knot.

Everything hurts. Your wound throbs with pain and your head fills with anguish. It's too much. You've lost your baby, you nearly died, your husband blames himself for everything, you can't even let him touch you without flinching. It's all too much.

Thorin's arms hesitantly wrap around your frozen frame and you slowly melt into his touch as he whispers hushed words of comfort, rocking you back and forth like he would with a baby. Like the one you lost.

How can you tell him when he's blaming himself whilst he holds you? You wonder if it's better not to tell him. What he doesn't know won't kill him. Maybe it's best not to say anything and instead protect him from the truth.

Isn't that what he did to you. Isn't that the reason you're lying here with a hole in your side?

“I don't blame you Thorin. You were trying to protect me, it's not your fault.” You say softly exhaustion taking over your body, your eyelids becoming heavy.

Instead of replying, Thorin strips and slips into the king sized bed, wrapping himself around you, carefully avoiding your bandaged side.

You know the conversation isn't over. You know your words haven't really made a difference to his guilty conscience. Thorin holds you close to stop talking about himself, he wants to be here for you. But, you wonder how long this'll last. How long will you both be avoiding subjects?

You lay in silence enjoying the comfort of your One, sleep slowly taking you. The company has already been informed that you're alive and healthy, but for now you need to rest. The problems the two of you face can wait until tomorrow.

Thorin couldn't sleep. The entire night he finds himself listening to your breathing. Any short breaths or long pauses set his mind into a frenzy. He’s scared that if he closes his eyes you might not be here with him in the morning. Every time he does close his eyes, haunting images of your lifeless body engulfed in blood restrict him from getting any sleep. So instead he watches over.

You yourself struggle through the night. Although you manage to fall asleep, your mind is plagued with nightmares. You dream of the dwarf that put you in this state, his eyes never leave yours and the sick, sadistic smile haunts you. Once you’ve been stabbed the whole dream repeats itself. You never see Thorin come to save you, nor the company around you. Instead you're stuck in a paradox of pain, reliving the stabbing again and again.

You wake up drenched in sweat and panting. Tears streaming down your face as you clutch your empty womb. “The baby.” You whisper incoherently. “My baby!” You weep into your pillow.

“Y/n?” You hear your husband whisper into the night. “What baby y/n?” His words shaking as he begins to piece the puzzle together.

“I'm s-so sorry T-thorin!” You cry unable to hold yourself together as you watch your king shake his head profusely, refusing to believe. “I was going to tell you after you caught the killer. W-when things we're calm T-thorin.” You clutch his hands in desperation hoping he'll understand.

His hands slip from yours as he hastily gets up and leaves the bed, pacing the room. You try to calm your cries as best you can, sobering from the nightmare, waiting for his reaction.

“You were pregnant?” He asks, his voice barely audible as he looks at you in disbelief. “We were going to have a baby?” All you can do is nod.

He shakes his head again, his knees barely lifting his body as he nears the foot of the bed. “No y/n please-no-tell me it's not true.” He mutters as he sinks to the floor his head resting on the mattress, fists balled in the sheets, he begins to cry.

You spring into action when you hear his soft sobs. You wince as you move to sit on the stone floor, resting his head onto your chest. Your motherly instincts kicking in, rocking the two of you as he cries in your arms. You stay like this until the sun rises.

“How did you know?” Thorin breaks the silence, his voice hoarse.

“The big sign was that I hadn't bled.” You smile, “and then Gloin came to give me my breakfast and I couldn't stand the smell of it, I can never say no to Gloins cooking, so I knew something must be wrong.” You laugh at the memory and feel Thorin smile as he sits up leaning against the mattress.

“I'm sorry Y/n.” He says solemnly, and you see him staring at you.

“It's not your fault Thorin. It's not my fault either.” You turn to look at him “and I know no matter how much I say this we'll still not believe it. But it's not our fault.”

“I failed as a husband y/n I couldn't project you.”

“Then I failed as a mother Thorin because I couldn't protect our baby.” You snap back harshly, and sight. “you didn't stab me Thorin, that dwarf did. And you didn't kill all those guards, those dwarves did. I love you Thorin, but please...don't blame yourself.” You whisper, your hand trailing down his neck resting on his bare chest. He wraps his hands around your waist and lifts you easily into his lap, a warm contrast to the cold stone.

“It's not your fault either y/n.” He says kissing into your hair. “I know you would never put that baby in harm's way. You will be a great mother amralime.” Silent tears stream down your face as you nod, playing with his hands.

Loud knocks on the door brings you back to reality and you hastily wipe your face as Dealing walks in.

“Thorin.” He stops shocked to see you both wide awake sitting on the floor, his eyes move to your tear stricken face and he sends you a tight lipped smile, before turning back to his king. “I managed to persuade him to talk. He's given us names.”

You don't linger on how Dwalin persuaded the prisoner to talk, instead you smile at Thorin's worried gaze on you. Patting his chest and kissing his cheek, you reassure him to go. Thorin helps you stand you grip onto his arm turning to him.

“I want to be present at their trial.” You state. Thorin tenses and you hear Dwalin shuffle uncomfortably behind you. Eventually your husband nods and leaves.

You sit beside your king in the throne room eyes locked onto the ten chained dwarves. There was no waiting with this trial. It was announced in the morning and now you sit in front of them. The throne room doors open and the public gasp as two guards drag in a bruised and battered dwarf, his blond hair and beard stained with blood, he limps over to the rest of his group.

Thorin slips his hand into yours and give you a gentle squeeze. Your own hand tightens as the dwarf locks eyes with you, his bruised, swollen lips curl into a grim smile. You return his stare with a cold look, wishing the worst of punishments for him. You look away when Thorin slips his hand out of yours and rises from his seat, the sound of his chair scraping the floor brings the throne room to silence. His voice echoing around the room asserting his power over the feeble prisoners.

You zone out as the charges made against the traitors are read out. You didn’t come to listen to how they all think you’re weak and inferior. To hear just how long they had been plotting for your death, taunting the king with threats to your life. You came to see them die. Only once you see the life drain from their deceitful eyes will you be able to carry on with your life, and mourn the loss of your unborn child.

Thorin sits beside you unmoving, and you pray to the Valar that his mind will also be able to rest when the trial is over. You take your enjoined hands onto your lap, playing with them to distract your dark thoughts, ignoring the feel of Thorin’s gaze.

Once again, Thorin stands in front of the court to reveal his final verdict. You peer up at him watching the coldness in his eyes as he addresses the traitors.

“You have all confessed to your treacherous crimes, to the plot of murdering your queen,” You flinch at the hardness in his voice, Thorin himself pauses slightly. “And to the deaths of members of our guards. For these offences against the state I sentence you all to death” You look down hiding your relieved smile. Even though you and everyone else in the room knew this would be the outcome, to hear those words being uttered out loud set you at ease.

As the court and the rest of the public gather outside for the public execution, you watch by Thorin’s side as Dwalin sharpens his axe in front of the crowd and the line of prisoners. The first prisoner, a stocky round nosed dwarf, is dragged to the podium by the guards. Struggling to break free, you see tears streaming down his face and wonder if he had a family, a child of his own. His neck is forced onto the slab of stone, Dwalin muttering something to him, that still his frantic movements.

In one swift blow Dwalin heaves the axe down onto his neck, and the prisoners head drops to the floor, blood gushing out of his neck, staining the wooden podium. Thorin faces you, blocking your view of the graphic scene, with his broad chest.

“You don’t have to watch this Y/N, I can take you back to bed to rest” He whispers into your ear. You look up at him and shake your head gently, dismissing his concerned gaze and move him back to your side.

You watch as the prisoners come and go, laying their heads on the wet, bloody slab and meet their fate. On some occasions you watch their body twitch as Dwalin strikes them again to decapitate them fully. Before the next one comes to the podium guards mount the decapitated heads and bury them into the ground for all to see.

When the second to last dwarf is brought to the podium, you turn to your husband, looking him in the eye with confidence.

“Let me do this one.” You implore, Thorin’s gaze snapping to you in disbelief. He opens his mouth to retort but you cut him off. “He’s the one who killed Ernad, Thorin, let me avenge his death.” You plead. They had found that this particular dwarf had murdered the soldier assigned to protect you. Ernad, was a close friend of yours and gave his life serving you, you owe it to his family to take the dwarf’s life.

Thorin shuts his eyes in frustration and holds his hand up, stopping Dwalin. “I hope this brings you the peace you’re looking for lukhudel.”

As you step onto the podium the crowd begins to murmur, Dwalin looks at you confused when you walk over to him reaching out for his axe. His eyes widen and he questioningly looks over at Thorin, who must’ve nodded in approval for Dwalin hands you the weapon.

The prisoner walks over to the slab motionless, he didn’t say anything during the trial and he says nothing now. He doesn’t even look at you when bows his head ready for execution. The axe suddenly feels heavy in your grip as you think of what you’re about to do. This isn’t the first time you’ve taken a dwarfs life. Flashbacks of stabbing your attacker in the throat come to mind. Your vision obstructed by the memories of the blood oozing from his neck onto your hands. The same hands that will kill this man now.

You look over to your One. Thorin already watching you, seeing the tears brimming in your eyes he gives you a single nod. You asked to do this, finish it. Blinking back the tears you bring the axe over your head and with all your might strike the murderer. The spray of blood stains you, just like last time, and the head drops to the ground.

You hand the axe back to Dwalin and walk over to Thorin’s side again.

“You instigated this whole plot.” Thorin exclaims to the final traitor, the bruised and battered dwarf stands alone. “I won’t let you die swiftly like the others.” You hold your breath when you see soldiers roll in a cauldron of molten lead, and you know what Thorin intends.

The prisoner starts to plead for mercy as Thorin leaves you and starts walking to the cauldron. The guards around him push him to his knees, forcing his mouth open, his face facing the bleak sky. You see tears run down his swollen face as he bawls incoherent shouts for help. Thorin takes the ladle of molten metal and grabs the traitor by his hair, pulling him towards him. The look on Thorin’s face a stark contrast to the crying dwarf a few hours earlier.

Holding the dwarf down the King pours the contents of the ladle down his throat, screams of agony echo across the land, as the leads starts to deform his body. You look away not being able to watch his body breakdown. The sounds of pain relinquish and you hear the crowd disperse after Thorin short warning, but still you do not turn back in fear of what you will find.

You feel your husbands presence behind you and he silently leads you back to your shared room. The both of you enter the warm room, Thorin seating you on the bed. Only now do you feel the ache on your side, you’re lucky the wound hasn’t reopened after lifting the heavy axe.

Thorin comes back into the room with a basin of water and fresh bandages. He takes off your tunic, warm hands brushing your cool skin as he rewraps your wound. You watch him as he soaks a cloth in the basin, his brows furrowed slightly and you wonder what plagues him mind. He returns your gaze when he lifts your chin up and wipes the dry blood that had splattered on your face and hands

The trial is over. The dwarves responsible for the deaths of your soldiers, for your injuries, and for the death of your unborn.

“Why don’t I feel any different Thorin.” You whimper into the silence. Thorin stops and looks up at you, closing his eyes and nods in agreement, he brings you into his embrace.

“It will amralime,” he vows “this is just the beginning I promise.”

The two of you stay like this, Thorin reassuring you with hushed words of endearments, rocking you back and forth as he set both your minds at ease.

This is just the beginning, the beginning of a long road to recovery both physically and mentally. You don’t know how long it will take to return to yourself. However, you know that you’re not alone in your pain, Thorin holds you now as he vows to in the future, guiding you through whatever comes next, loving you no matter what.

Day 59

Tues 3rd Mar

🏔Moshi to Arusha 🚍

It was time for us to leave Moshi and move onto Arusha, a city 2 hours away renowned as the starting point for all the big safari parks.

I went up early for brekkie on the rooftop and this time, we had bananas but there appeared to be no coffee. I asked the woman and she confirmed it and was just like ‘Sorry, no coffee’.

As I write this, I have the overwhelming feeling that it definitely feels like the right time to step back from the blog. First, I’m telling you about there being no bananas at breakfast. Jesus. Then the next day there is no coffee. I’m thinking WOW. This is boring isn’t it. But then again, some of you may be so bored reading about Coronaviru that this is a welcome break.

Well, it did jazz up a bit and get exciting, cos I looked up and coffee had appeared. JUST LIKE THAT. Thats right! One minute it was there, then the next, Poof! Like magic! God knows how long it had been there, the woman didn’t feel the need to mention it to me despite knowing I wanted coffee. Absolute JOKE.

We spent the morning packing our bags and debating what our plan should be, while Phil huffed and puffed, flipping between angryman and stresshead. He had definitely got out on the wrong side of the bed, but as the great Irish philosopher Ronan Keating once said, Life is a rollercoaster. Well, Phil was certainly riding that rollercoaster. He was hot and cold like a broken tap I tells ya.

Despite Phil’s multiple attempts to get one, not having a SIM card was irritating him a lot, especially considering we needed to ring various people about hotels and safaris. So after a bit more grumbling, he went off like a true moody hero to try Vodacom again. I ‘minded the bags’ and did some hotel research (ie. I had a nice long chat with Evie and then spoke to Luke & Bex about house viewings).

Despite the 10am check out time (its more a suggestion than a rule right?), I sat in our hotel room with the door open to imply I was leaving ‘any minute’ and positioned a towel hung on the bed pole, perfectly hiding my face from the doorway view to ensure I avoided eye contact with any hotel workers passing by 😏.

I thought about Phil, all alone in that annoying phone shop, and felt a pang of guilty. Or was it hunger? Hard to know. But either way, I sent him some WhatsApp messages to give the impression I was doing lots of excellent research (that should Cheer him up, I thought), and crossed my fingers that the hilarious GIFS I was sending would put him in an AMAZING mood. He loves a GIF does our Phil. After the pain of sim card buying, I knew it could go either way but at least he’d only get the messages once he’d eventually got a working sim so I had a chance...

Well, I soon saw the ticks ☑️ turn that beautiful shade of blue and nervously waited for a response.

THANKFULLY I got two of the best emoji’s I could have hoped for.

It was then I knew that Sweetbox were right back in the 90s - Everything’s Gona be Alright.

My overstaying-my-welcome plan worked for 2 whole hours and I made it to midday sat in the hotel room before I got a polite knock on the door to ask me to vacate.

‘Ohh I didn’t realise the time, of course I’ll leave straight away’.

Phil returned and strongly declared we should go to Milan’s Indian for a quick lunch before going to get the bus. Well, the awkward thing was, I didn’t want to eat curry for lunch (not a sentence I say often)...but then again, I also really didn’t want to risk messing with Phil’s mood...

I decided to try the softly, softly approach and lightly suggested we go to the Kilimanjaro coffee lounge.

Phil jerked his face round to me angrily and the atmosphere instantly went ice cold.

‘What is WRONG with Milans?? You loved the food there and its really close by!’.

I quietly explained again that although it was a lovely place, I simply didn’t want curry for lunch, and he obviously couldn’t argue with that. Such is life. But it definitely REALLY annoyed him and he stropped out of the hostel with his bags in search of a tuc tuc.

We both stood on the corner of the street in blasting heat waiting for a tuc tuc to appear and for some reason, there were NONE. Everytime we saw one and waved it down, it would go zooming past and we would see there were already people in the back. Phil was ready to burst with annoyance but as the sun began to nearly melt our heads, I finally waved one down.

We went to put our bags in and then got a shock as we realised there was already a woman in the back!

‘No problem no problem’ declared the driver as he saw the look on our faces, and he ushered at me to put my rucksack into the back. Well, that was harder than it looked.

‘Oh for Gods sake’ Phil said under his breath, but not so much that we all didn’t hear him and I started to attempt getting my bag in.

Phil watched on in disbelief and was like ‘This is ridiculous! Where are we meant to sit??’

Phil then tried to get his bag in while I tried to sit in the front with the driver, but the driver was like ‘Nah you go in back’, then the woman was sort of holding Phil’s massive rucksack and there was not really any room for us and Phil just lost his rag completely 😂

‘Right, forget it! Take the bags out Jess! I AM NOT GETTING THIS TUC TUC!’

I had a point like.

Thankfully, a nearby boda driver had a great loud whistle and managed to hail another tuc tuc down straightaway, just before Phil spontaneously combusted, and we went to Kili coffee lounge where there were too many witnesses for Phil to maintain his grumpy face for too long. PHEW.

I enjoyed a simple cheese tomato toastie with fries (opposite of a curry I’d say) and now that he’d calmed down, Phil told me about his morning visit to the phone shop. While he was stood in the phone shop, stressing out and getting super angry and wound up by the slow process, he went to look at his phone and clicked to unlock it. To his utter shock, on the screen was an image he’d NEVER seen before, and it was one of those ‘Inspirational Quote’ memes.

It said:

He stood in total amazement, starring at the screen, wondering how the powers that be had managed to target him in this way, how google was so onto him. How had they known he was MEGA stressed and how had they got this image onto his phone?!?! Maybe it was a message from GOD?!

WELL after further investigation (the back button), he discovered that it was the profile picture of the phone shop guys. He’d added the guys number as part of the sim registration process, then he’d accidentally clicked on this guys whatsapp profile pic without realising, then locked his phone 😂😂😂😂😂.

Anyway, back to the cafe, it had been 30 minutes of good vibes so naturally Phil started to dip again, this time stressing about getting a bus to Arusha. After all the bus journeys we’ve ever done, I have NO IDEA why this simple 2 hour journey was getting to him so much, but hey ho sometimes these things don’t make sense do they. He’s a complicated and simple fellow in equal measures.

We put on our bags and walked to Tahmeed buses to see if by chance they had one of their nice buses passing through anytime soon, so we could avoid the super basic local buses that stop every 5 minutes. Much to Phil’s joy, they said SURE there’s one departing in about 15 minutes and that was the first time that day that Phil reeally smiled, ya know like with all his teeth and his eyes. It was beautiful.

The bus arrived about 30 minutes later (not too bad by African standards!) and we took a seat, only to realise it was actually some guys seat who had just jumped off the bus for a drink - and he just happened to have a huge machete on his belt! He seemed fine with it though and sat somewhere else! The bus guys weirdly would not allow anyone to have their windows open, instead insisting that we have the AC on. I kept opening my window a bit anyway as the AC above my head was blocked and I needed the fresh air, but the bus man was getting really annoyed. The locals wanted their windows open too but the bus man was stomping round the bus shutting them all and shouting at people, while people shouted back at him. As people coughed and sneezed 🤧 as humans tend to do, I wondered how many germs were getting regurgitated back through the system during this time of hyper virus mania... 🦠

The woman next to me fell asleep on me for most of the journey then we arrived to Arusha town. As we’d read would happen, we were completely HOUNDED on arrival by men trying to sell us safaris. One guy pretended to work for the bus company while getting my bag to hand me, I was like Dude I can get my own bag.

They were all talking at once trying to give us business cards, one guy said another guy was a liar, another accused another of being a thief, and it was just chaos and frankly, harassment - so Phil told them all to Frig the Frig off and we walked the 6 minute walk to our hotel Raha Leo Inn.

We walked through the door feeling immediate relief to be away from the hassling streets, when suddenly the door opened behind us and the guy who’d pretended to be working for the bus company walked in and started to try and sell us a safari!I was like Hey I thought you said you worked for the bus company mate, and he was like ‘Yes yes, they are my friends, but I have safari’. What the hell does that even mean haha. He even pointed to a safari vehicle parked outside and said ‘Uh, this is my vehicle’.

Uh, I don’t think it is mate 😂

But in an attempt to make him go away, I took the card from him and said Thanks, I’ll be in touch if we need to, ba bye now, ba bye.

It was too late though, Phil was FAR too annoyed by it all and he went for it.

‘You have just FOLLOWED US here and now you come INSIDE the hotel to hassle us?? I don’t want your card! I will NOT be doing a safari with you, take you card and please leave’.

Incase the guy wasn’t clear, Phil shoved the card into his hand while he said it.

The guy was rather disgruntled at all this but left the hotel looking defeated. Phil puffed his chest out a bit and gave his chest some big fist blows in a gorilla like fashion.

About 5 minutes later, I watched a completely different man drive off in the safari vehicle the guy had been referring to...

The hotel was clean and pleasant enough, although the lack of a TOILET SEAT was a little strange 😂. Also we noticed a man walk into the hotel and straight up to the social area without being stopped by the staff, and he turned out to be another safari seller. Hmm. We made a mental note to keep an eye on our valuables and not leave them out anywhere...

I was back to normal and ready to eat curry by dinner time so we went to find the the LP recommended Hot Plate restaurant. Directly opposite it was a stall of crazy shirts and we couldn’t resist a quick look before we headed inside, immediately finding a sweet shirt that we had to buy for 20k tsh (about £6.50). The young lads running the stall were buzzing, though why there needed to be 4 of them working I’ll never know. Thats like 1 guy for every 2 shirts available. We did the crazy handshake to celebrate the purchase which they really lolled at.

Obviously then I washed my hands - while singing the chorus of 21 seconds by So Solid Crew.

Our dinner was soooo good - maybe the best masala fries so far, a delicious dosa, and loads of other lovely food - and we went to find a tuc tuc to get back, eventually finding one at the petrol station, and took our huge doggy bag of food with us.

On return, we found out one of the hotel staff had her phone taken that very day! We told them they really needed to invest in a lock on the front door so only staff and guests could enter. They agreed with us and so will probably do absolutely nothing about it.

After spending almost 11 hours of his time searching, Phil FINALLY found the official marathon snaps of himself and was (understandably of course) very excited to see them, so we had a good look through those for about an hour (there were 10 photos after all) before finally getting back to The Crown.

I have to start this out by saying Giraffez, I’m so sorry! I tried my best but too many people wanted to keep us comp strong and wanted Lily O to stay. I really wish we would have had the chance to play longer together but sometimes it’s just not in the cards.

As far as swap goes, I’m really happy about my team. We have a majority from my original group which is pretty wild. I wish Chips was here and I really hope he makes it work somehow but I’m ngl I’m a little worried about him.

I was so so thrilled to see Jinx on Tua with me. I also have started talking with Captain and Jude. They both seem super nice so as always I’m hoping to avoid tribal once again.

HELLO AUTUMNS WORLD!!!!!! So I have arrived in a swapped team with 3 of my old members! SOOO happy Mikki is here firstly since we can discuss basically anything. I LOVE JUDE

so idk where my last confessional left off but i think it was before tribal. so after tribal, jinx’s manifestations came true, we swapped, i ended up on a tribe with no one i knew except chris, so that was kind of…nnng. but hey, gotta roll with the punches. me and jinx were paired up for the challenge which game me a bit of time to talk with them, and they gave me some insight on ppl i didn’t really know on my tribe, and also they gave me a tarot reading, and it basically said that while i’m probably gonna have to deal with some bullshit, i just have to use everything i’ve learned to get over any obstacles, and stay calm and collected through it all. i’m really really praying for this one, since we just lost immunity, and now chris is going to the outhouse, i’m afraid that i’m truly all alone now. and if there’s one thing that scares me it’s being alone. i really like mikki tho, and i heard benj was good ppl. maybe if i let them know that raffy might have the half idol then maybe they’d be more inclined to work with me, but i also really enjoy raffy’s presence, so i don’t really want him to be a target. blake and i have had a good amount of dialogue so i’m hoping that he’d be willing to work with me, to be honest. ughhhhh why why why tribal. It’s my chronic overthinking in this swap that is going to do me in, I feel. It’s the pressure of having to actually think differently, and coming off of EVERYTHING I’ve seen in this community over the past 6 months, oh good Lord have mercy, I feel as though its so hard for me to want to not sacrifice my game, but at the same time... I feel all the pressure in the world to flip. I did have a lucid dream that if I got to a point where I consistently voted only white people at every Council, it would make my game look REALLY good by comparison, since I literally did everything I could, and no, I don’t want to hear anyone post season say this was rigged for Jinx, it’s not, we’re only going to go against each other down the road because of how this season has been set up, and it breaks my heart

So here's some tea I suppose. I was a pretty big fan of the tribe swap because people talked more in general. This was particularly interesting considering their different timezones but continued ability to keep up conversation. It was pretty apparent that I was at a numbers deficit from my original tribe but my hope was that people didn't want to play like "that" and then if they did that my former tribe would throw it to keep the numbers. Apparently that is not true as Lily C went as hard as possible to win a challenge she could have convincingly thrown as an "accident" multiple times. At any rate, based on the total lack of communication with me concerning who I am voting it is evident that either the plan is to vote someone without telling me or that it is to vote me. This means that regardless of the situation I am in a terrible position and will be leaving sooner rather than later. I don't know that I've been swap screwed in the past (perhaps, I've been playing for too long) but it really stinks.

As I'm writing this, I have a big gulp from... you guessed it... 7/11. I need to flip on one of the three of Monty, Lily O, and Lily C. My best option is going to vote for Lily O, I need Monty and Lily C to know I'm only doing this because yanno, things look awfully awful, and the pressure of making the right move and yet making sure I don't lose relationships is starting to get to me.

I also need them as shields because theyre the only winners in this game, and I need them here as shields for down the road heading into a merge.

I can't even believe I found TWOA IDOLS! I had to think a lot about who to give it too but I decided to do what felt like the smartest thing to do. My tribe has a varying amount of timezones which makes it harder to connect with them socially as I cannot PM them as much as I would like to. Additionally, I am finding it difficult to message them because I have to work from 8 to 5 everyday of the week. This sucks because I know I can at least make people like me in the per-merge enough to keep me. However, I can no longer reliably use this strategy. I just have to hope others are way more inactive than me and that my tribe somehow wins immunity. On that note, I am really liking that Mikki and Benj took a leadership role in the tribe. So, they are definitely people I want to keep on this tribe. It would have to be Blake or Khalid that gets the target from me. We'll see how talking to them goes before results.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!! Ok so starting with my tribe:

Mikki - ABSOLUTELY THE FAV!!! We got along right away on day 1 and are def the closest in timezones which is so great to have someone like that. Sooo fun and easy to talk to really wanna be #1 allies. I know shes amazing at orgs and won and probs is getting along well with everyone but who cares i wanna play w her!!!! The main thing is too have fun and i just know it will be with Mikki

Captain - Also amazing!!! Super active in helping with the challenge and great personally love that hes gonna do english teaching which is smth i was looking into and also in a closer time zone to me and had fun discussing stuff w him so far!!

Blake - We played Kili together!! Shoutout Autumn for getting 4 Kilis back omg. I was on a tribe with Blake and Autumn together for like 2 rounds and we did vote together once so have some positive history at least hes a bit more quiet compared to the others but hes cool and i think we could do good!

Raffy - Iconic parts in the video challenge and also fun so far!! Havent talked as much as the above 3 but still feeling good about him!

Khalid - Seems nice and friendly but we havent messaged yet and no clue if he will do his lines in the music video :O we'll see But overall love my tribe and the overall cast. LILY THE KILI WINNER QUEEN???????? Cant believe shes back would be so awesome to play w her again since last time we were mainly on opposite sides. JINX MY ONE MONTE FRIEND??? YES!! SO excited i hope we get to tribe swap together since in Monte we werent that close and i voted them off i know such a disgrace but since then we have become more friends so would love to play together!! You have to always film horizontally. Also, some of these people's energies were not giving at all. The beginning waking up part was cute though. 1. How do you feel about your starting team? Anyone you are happy/upset to see? OOOOH i feel like my team is very CUTE! like i didn't think autumn was gonna put me and mikki in the same tribe lmao .. i thought it was gonna be divided from ur race and u know mikki is white and i'm not. ANYWAYS, im happy to see mikki in my team of course. thats my ride or die and i know i'm gonna have someone i can 100% trust no matter what for sure. but blake knows for sure that mikki and i are very close so thats gonna be interesting. which leads to the next part, i'm kinda eh with blake in my tribe thats only because our previous experience in CoW so i just hope that its gonna be better here this time *prays*.. for others, i don't know them before so i'm excited to get to know them!!!

2. Who are you most excited to play with on the cast? Most afraid of? oh of course mikki for sure and another person is geekoffilm cause u know we're like besties besties and i love both of them so much. most afraid of... probably monty tbh. they tried to gun for me/mikki(/cora) in jarod's mini so i think they know that mikki and i are gonna be tight so i'm just gonna have to keep an eyes on them cause they are a great player.

3. What are your first impressions of everyone based on this first challenge? OH GOD. i love benj!! benj is very organized so we started off pretty well. i threw out lush life randomly and then we decided to go with lush life, how cute!!! but yea, benj and mikki have done lots of works and i love THEM. RAFFY ALSO DID AMAZING in his parts!!! like he has PROPS and his camp is sooooo summery and AHH he's so great. blake.. ahem if blake didn't look at his lyrics at the first part, it would've been a bit better. and idk about khalid. i'm very worried cause khalid hasn't sent any of his parts yet. and like he seems inactive??? so idk but i don't wanna lose the points for full team participation :oooooh: I DIDNT JUST SHOW ANYONE I CANT DANCE TO LOSE AND I DIDNT HAVE TO DANCE AND MAKE MY LEGS ACHE JUST TO LOSE!!! SOBS!! but that is a sign that tells me i should exercise more x ANYWAYS!!!! its just interesting point to add x

4. What is your strategy going into the first portion of the game? trying to lay low and build some connections with ppl from my tribe. benj and raffy for sure. i rlly like their vibes so i need to stick with them. and just try not to lose challenges cause its gonna be suck voting one of them out. also, if we somehow win, i want to send someone who i can trust moving forward to exiled island.. but we'll see. its gonna be a lot of thinking and convincing people.

5. How do you want other people in the game to view you in the early stages of the game? as someone who they can trust and talk to and someone who always puts effort into challenges cause thats what most important in the first stage of the game.. i'll come back here after results x

Now that that is out of the way, let me list my tribemates... Giraffez Joey Lily C Lily O Monty. Something is incredibly amusing about how there is a tribe with someone named Chips and someone named Giraffez. What is not amusing is that I get a "I don't like/want to speak to/etc." vibe from Giraffez? I could just be a delicate and annoying flower but our conversations have been short and dry. Joey has some great high energy and excitement and I love that he loves being part of this game. He is also pretty fun to talk to. Hoping that we can keep an open dialogue and that perhaps I can rope him into a future alliance of sorts. Lily C is a sweetheart truly and I adore her personality so much. She is such a go-getter and goes to bat for those with who she feels can be loyal. I'm hoping that we can build loyalty and trust together. Lily O has been busy with work at a bowling alley. That's actually really cool because when I was a child that was my dream job. Not even joking... my parents were in leagues when I was growing up and my brother and I entered ones designed for children. It was a big thing in my family and I thought that I would love to be in that "atmosphere" all the time. Anyway, we haven't spoken until after the results were announced so honestly if I had to guess I was their intended target if we had had tribal council and they were mine?? (perhaps...) It has been really nice getting to connect with Monty and really cool finding out that they are beginning job searching after college and thinking of pursuing education as a career. I have a soft spot in my heart for all educators.

Okay so I'm just going to say this now. Autumn needs to simplify the twists to more like Blue's Clues with an OBVIOUS large blue paw prints where I'm supposed to look. Ok.....so after talking to Joey a little ive learned a few things mikki is a bit of a beast Benj is well......social to and everyone despised Mesopotamia........which i get from the stuff that pumped me up to 16th place that season but I'm mostly hoping that i can make it to the end this time....... So far I've talked to pretty much everyone Lilly and Joey and monty not sure which one really but the one whose discord is 13survivirgirl13 so hopefully soon i can work out some kind of an alliance with them and if we swap or merge from three to two either next week or the week after (probably the week after honestly) i feel i can maybe set us up as one and us four can really rule the roost for a moment....hopefully.....who knows i could just he a delusional old queen whose doomed to be nothing more then premerge every time i play tumblr survivor......or maybe I'm just crazy *shrugs* either way it should be a damn good hoot

I'm totally pumped for this game! Like when I saw my tribe and Jinx is on it I screamed! I want us to have the same success of being together at ftc!! Jude honestly is great to me and I'm enjoying getting to know her a lot, Ricky I remember from HvV4 but we both say no to that and start anew! Bryan I am hopeful to talk more since its been dry and that is okay. Sucks we ended losing Michelle early but I am sure it was for the best! We WILL reign successful

Yesterday was so stressful to me like editing I have no problem with but I thought my biggest worry was that I needed Bryan to submit stuff late-ish. But turns out an hour before due time thd program wanted to stop working 🙃🥲 and I felt so close to wanting to forfeit- which is something I never do but I just felt hopeless and guilty and even imagined getting voted out. So I had to call Jinx who assured me something could be salvaged and they'd make sure I would stay (rip Bryan) but after the extension by cool hosts I found encouragement and did my magic stuff. SOMEHOW we won and to be honest I dont think anything will top that feeling of relief in the org (give me 3 days) but man what a ride yesterday was for me!

I got a Super Idol! Well, at least I now know that I can fuck around in this game a little bit more since I have this extra insurance in my back pocket which guarantees I stay around in the long run. I want to start getting into alliances because being a solo person with not much time on their hands is definitely a scary position to be in. Preferably, I want an alliance with Nikki and Benj (though I suspect that they already have an alliance with at least one other person on the tribe). It does suck that I am not at tribal considering that it will help build my bonds even stronger. I guess I just have to suffer for the time being

i think this is gonna be an easy vote cause khalid needs to go. but idk you can never feel safe in survivor :/ but so far everyone has been telling me they're voting khalid so lets pray

Omg that immunity was so hard, I literally did not know what I was doing and I think out of everyone I was a bit lackluster. I will say on the tribe I have not really talked to all of them but I will say I trust Jinx the most and we have talked a lot and I think that moving forward we will have each others back. All I need to do is talk to the rest of the tribe and form bonds that will last me to a swap or merge.
