Here's why I believe the vessels do infact possess the ability to speak! (It just doesn't come so naturally to them!)

So we know that the void corrupting their bodies is what supposedly destroyed their ability to vocalize themselves "No voice to cry suffering" as the pale king would say. I have multiple sources of evidence to suggest this isn't entirely the case!

1- the king was wrong about the void, and specifically the way it would effect the vessels, in more ways than one!

"No mind to think" and "No will to break" are both clearly and blatantly untrue and sort of the point of the whole game.

Both the hollow knight and Ghost are shown to posses strong wills, and individual thoughts and desires.

2- the pure vessels cut dream nail dialogue!

It's not "can not speak" it's "do not speak" Which implies that it is very much possible! (and also I wonder about the implications of pv thinking this in particular? I know it's cut dialogue but still.. very interesting.)

3- the collector!

The collector is not only a void being but more of one than any of the vessels, who do posses bodies of Wyrm and Root.

it is most likely a Kingsmould, or was one originally at least. And does not have an actual body of its own.

So the only other void beings in the game (the Kingsmoulds) are confirmed to posses the ability to speak. How this came to be in the collectors case is unknown but it certainly came to be!

I don't see why it would be impossible for any vessel to be able to!

My favourite character, and this might not come as a surprise if you have ever seen a single one of my posts, is Evan Rosier.

Obviously Evan doesn't appear much in canon, he's just a name and one of Moody's anecdotes as an auror. I have lots of headcanons about Evan, lots of them are shared with @futurequibblerjournalist because we spend a lot of time yapping about Rosekiller. Here is some stuff about my Evan.

I write Evan as being very reserved usually, he's quiet and prefers to observe those around him, to watch and pick up on the little details about people to store in his mind for later. He has a thousand mile stare which unnerves some people and he is terrible at eye contact, preferring to look over someone's shoulder which makes them feel uncomfortable. Barty finds this funny when he watches people constantly check behind them when talking to Evan.

Evan is autistic, his special interests are the human body (specifically teeth and bones which he carries in his pocket and will take out and put on the table mid-lesson), the French Revolution (because the Rosiers being French is very important to me) and 1950s B-Movies (his favourite is The Blob) but also enjoys films like Martyrs and Idioterne (The Idiots) because he finds the controversy fascinating.

Evan fell in love with Barty without realising he was in love with him in 4th year, but there was always something different about the way he felt about him before then. It was in the summer between 4th and 5th year that he came to terms with his sexuality when talking to Pandora at 2am on night. By the end of September in 5th year, him and Barty were together. Barty makes Evan feel seen, like he's not just some quiet freak who makes everyone uncomfortable. They balance each other out and Barty becomes the only person other than Pandora who understands Evan's needs if he's non-verbal or overstimulated.

I think that's enough about Evan for now, I need to save some headcanons for future posts.

Assumption Game:

You love the fact that, in spite of embodying a lot of the things you used to see in yourself as bad, gross, etc, Sans is so so so loved by SO many people, to the point where he won the Tumblr Sexyman competition. It made you feel a little better about those parts of yourself. If they can love him, they can love you too. (You can also very correctly assume this about Me)

ah, it's a sweet sentiment....

but.... not really? at least, not in the way i think you're saying. i relate to sans because we both love puns, we both love science but (seemingly) had to give up on it as a career--and at the time undertale came out, i had a job that left me feeling like i was stuck with no future to look forward to, so sans' depression in the face of resets was, uh, pretty familiar. It's funny to say about a fictional character, but we're kinda cut from the same cloth, at least when it comes to personality and what we value. i'm still working on some of the things 'we' struggle with, but at least i can make him deal with his problems through fanfiction XD

and i, uh, don't really want people to like me in the way that got him the sexyman title, so gotta say that's not a factor XD

but hey, if people like me for (some of) the same reasons they like sans, then i'm not gonna complain :>
