The JTBD #2
Kindness
Be kind to yourself
Be kind to your inner circle
Be kind to strangers
Be kind to enemies
Be kind to those who can do nothing for you
Be kind to everyone and everything, for it's your greatest strength
Be kind in public and private
I stumble with these, myself, but at least I stumble in the right direction.
Those are the jobs to be done today.

In my experience every time an older generation feels silenced it’s never been true. I’m sure there are cases where it has happened but normally it’s not. The older a person is, until they’re retired that is, the more money and influence they have. Whenever they are quiet it is because they are choosing to be, not because they are forced into being silent. The younger generations are forced to listen because they don’t have as much power and it stays that way until the older generations are in nursing homes or an equivalent. But even then, the decisions of the older generations are relevant and influential because the younger generations reap the benefits or suffer the consequences. So when an older generation starts to complain or insult younger generations or play the victim it’s not because of any actual harm being suffered, it’s because the younger generation is becoming less malleable and naive. The older generations are scared because they can’t predict what the younger ones will do and when those younger ones DO have the power there is nothing the older generations can do but talk.
This is not justification for being rude to older people. They are people no matter how annoying or delusional and deserve just as much decency as you. Agism is cruel and ever present. Instead of bowing to its influence treat everyone the way you’d wish them to treat you. Be honest but kind, strong but gentle, and confident but not arrogant.

"Being rude is easy.
It does not take any effort and is a sign of weakness and insecurity.
Kindness shows great self-discipline and strong self-esteem.
Being kind is not always easy when dealing with rude people.
Kindness is a sign of a person who has done a lot of personal work and has come to a great self-understanding and wisdom.
Choose to be kind over being right, and you’ll be right every time because kindness is a sign of strength."

idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.

watching the sdcc panel and i am just very :) about how sweet their answers to “what are some of the micro moments from the game that have stuck with you the most over the years?” are. taliesin saying what the fuck is up with that which was the first like The Party Gets To Know Each Other moments of c3. travis saying asking his wife if he could kiss her in campaign. marisha going way back to the cannonball competition in campaign one. ashley choosing the beauyasha date but also just the silly goat noise matt made. liam adding onto that to compliment matt roleplaying grass so well and then saying his favourite moment was writing a story for laura and reading it to her as caleb for jester. and then matt saying that was his answer, and that his favourite moments of the game are when they find ways to give gifts to each other whether tangible or not. and sam saying his favourite moments have less to do with the story and is more so when he can just. see his friends across the table from him. when marisha perches and when laura and ashley are (badly) drawing dicks and liam saying he loves when sam sneezes and ashley tells him to stop it and just. yeah. they Are an extremely popular online powerhouse, but i’m so happy that they’re also friends building a world together out of gifts to and love for one another.
like i Am so enamoured with the characters and the world of exandria but the moments when you can feel the love that those people have for each other reach out from behind the stained glass of their performances (to steal a metaphor from brennan lee mulligan) are so extremely special and i am endlessly grateful that they decided to share their silly little home game with the world.

@gontagokuhara-week Day 1 - protector / gentleman
V3-4's tricky for me to talk about for one or two reasons, but one thing I can say is that Gonta intentionally throwing away his dream of being a gentleman - something he ties everything about himself around - in order to protect everyone from the truth... to me that's one of the most underrated yet coolest things in V3.
It's still technically his birthday where I am, but this feels a smidge dark for that, so there's a more celebratory birthday variant of this on my twitter!
(I can only do a bit of Gonta Gokuhara Week, but I should hopefully have some stuff for the last two or three days ^^)

A Quiet Place: disability at the end of the world (I am still reeling from this movie)
Ok so like many apocalypses ignore what happens to the disabled or infirm during apocalypses and just have the main cast all healthy and able-bodied. Even FUCKING World War Z(where sick people were left alone by the infected) just ignored that aspect. Yes, someone will get temporarily sick/wounded or pregnant but I mean a lifelong handicap. A Quiet Place had a deaf girl in a world where making sound gets you killed. However, the sign language her family learned for her sake allowed them to communicate and bond in a silent world.
Now on to Day One. When Eric finds out Sam needs meds to handle the pain caused by her terminal illness, he doesn't ditch her. He doesn't go "you're an invalid, you're weak, I'm abandoning you to increase my own chances at survival." So many apocalypses push the Darwinian idea of "survival of the fittest" but the unique nature of the Quiet Place means that it doesn't matter how strong or ruthless you are if you don't know how to shut the fuck up. Later, when Sam is left incapacitated in the church from her pain, this would've been a prime time for a lesser writer to have Eric leave Sam a little note saying "Sorry, but you're dying so I'm outie bye" but nope! guy risks his life to make sure she gets her meds, comforts her, lifts her spirits when she's at the end of the world, her life, and just wants to experience the simply joy of a pizza.
On to Eric. Once again, a lesser film would make him a coward or unlikable. He's a white-collar worker (a bloodsucking lawyer-in-training) who couldn't build a fire or survive the rugged wilderness but they're in the city so food is everywhere just be quiet getting it. He just survived drowning in the flooding subway but goes back down cuz his new friend wants her maybe-last meal to be from her favorite place. Sam is not a liability to him. She's not a burden but a person trying to maneuver through disaster in her own way just like him. Some anthropologist somewhere said that civilization didn't really start until people started looking after each other, when healed bones were found cuz that meant someone cared for this person while they were weak. In the end, Eric's empathy & kindness secured his own survival.

Idk if you've ever seen it, but I imagine Machete coming to Vasco in his dreams like bambi's mom does to him in bambi 2. Just this beautiful golden field they played in, shining butterflies haloing Machete who isn't sickly, isn't in pain, a healthy beautiful dog but still undeniably himself. Looking at him with so much love and kindness, even though his mortal form is gone, he's been so truly blessed. Gives Vasco the strength to go on.
