shoutout to nonbinary/agender/otherwise gender nonconforming people who choose to wear cultural clothing typically associated with a certain gender!
jews who wear kippot, muslims who wear hijabs and burqas and niqābs and jilbābs and kimars, sihks who wear turbans, just to name a few!
whether you're wearing these because you have a connection to the gender associated with the article of clothing, or if you wear them because you want to challenge gender roles, or if youre just used to wearing them and don't think your gender should stop you from continuing, or any other reason, i think you all rule!!! im actually a nonbinary jew who wears kippot :] rock on!
and to those who are forced to wear these things, i hope one day you all are in a place where you can have the freedom of choice

Jewish culture is loving the look of a black Kippah but knowing you’re never going to wear it because of what it signifies (it’s okay, the white patterned Kippot are really nice too)
wait what? what does it signify?
edit: thank you to everyone in the notes who's explained what the black kippah represents I appreciate all of you <3
edit 2: read this post please

Sometimes, crochet is about creating textures and patterns with simple materials. Using technique to elevate the yarn.
Sometimes, it's about letting the material shine.
I spent a good chunk of time dividing up a long gradient cotton yarn into its individual color sections so that each round of this kippah would be one step in the gradient progression. Then, I just crocheted a simple pattern. Let the colors shine.
It'll be listed on Etsy after Shabbat.

I run a small business selling my knitting, crocheting, and jewelry here on tumblr. I’m disabled, and it’s my only source of income. I specialize in LGBTQ garments and decor and Judaica, but I make lots of other stuff too! My life is … going very badly lately … and getting some commissions, or even just people signal boosting this, would really help me out.
I’ve been having a hard time affording food, necessary medications, and the monthly bill for my storage unit. I fortunately have a safe place to stay for the time being, but I’m still basically homeless, and still have not fully recovered from breaking my femur in April, so every little bit makes a difference.
Any order of 2 or more items comes with a free watercolour bookmark!

I’m a queer and transgender artist, currently mostly working with textiles, and selling my work here on tumblr.  Please feel free to message me about purchases, or with any questions you may have.
Hat and kippah pricing information, as well as shipping information, can be found in my store policies page.  Pricing for Magen David ornaments (as a garland or otherwise) can be found in this post.
The double knit Star Trek potholders are $30 each.  The rainbow entrelac neckwarmers are $50 each, and I’m planning to try out different pride flags with this pattern soonish.
I am very open to commissions and custom work!  Again, please feel free to message me at any time for inquiries!
Selling my art is my only source of income, so I deeply appreciate any signal boosting!  You can also view my gallery or leave a tip on my ko-fi.
Shop update as of 1 July 2023:
I’m on my way to being properly ambulatory again, having been on crutches for months, but I am still more or less homeless.  My partner was laid off over a month ago, and we really could use any and all sales and commissions we can get!  Please check out my inventory and products tags; reblogs help a lot whether or not a purchase is currently in your budget!
I very much am open for commissions at the moment.  I always welcome messages with any questions!

I really want to try wearing my kippah when I go out because I love the feeling of it so much but I'm kinda scared of the potential danger but I reeeaaaally want to. I'm not sure if I should play it safe or just do what makes me happy even if it puts me in danger

I kind of want to start wearing a kippah to school.
I know it’s dangerous, but I do want to look more Jewish. Being Jewish is something I’m really proud of. The clasp of my הי necklace also broke, so I can’t wear it, ☹️. I also look very feminine and have long hair. (I’m nonbinary)

Jewish culture is giving your cat a small kippah and watching them walk around doing silly little mitzvot
picture when... (if you want to stay anon to the blog you can dm me and I can just post it, I just wanna see the cat with a kippah tbh)

The pride kippah/yarmulke is probably the most popular item in my Etsy shop, which means I'm gradually getting orders for them in different flag colors! Finished the first lesbian one today. (After shipping and materials costs, I donate proceeds to Keshet--as a non-Jewish person, I'd feel icky making money off these.)
For knitters, I've made the pattern available for free on Ravelry.

Someone asked for my kippah pattern.
The pattern is so basic. What makes this kippah so pretty is the yarn.
https://hobbii.com/sultan-deluxe, color way Martian Pink. I do the first 3 rounds in the red and then each successive round is one step in the long gradient
Pattern under the cut
Magic circle, ch1, 8 sc into the circle, slst to join, ch1
2sc in each stitch around, sl st to join, ch1
1sc in first stitch, 2sc in next stitch, repeat around, sl st to join, ch1
Continue, adding one sc per round, to round 11: sc in first 10 stitches, 2sc in next st, repeat around, sl st to join, ch1
Round 12: sc in each stitch around, sl st to join, ch1.
Repeat chain 12 until you have the size you want. Tie off and weave in ends.
