I had another of those amusing bilingual moments this week when my MIL used the French word sous-entendu, meaning something inferred or implied, but not explicitly stated. It’s an amalgam of the word sous, meaning under, and entendu, the past participle of the verb to hear, but also having the meaning of having understood something, not just heard it.

So in French, an unspoken inference or implication is literally under-understood, which I’d like to petition be added to the English language as well.

I LOVE when I'm watching a Thai BL show and the English subtitles seem like they don't match the Thai that I heard, so I switch to Spanish subtitles to see if they translate it differently, and those subtitles translate it to what I think I heard.

Knowing multiple languages is so fucking cool.

Was looking at refs and since Viktor has two different leg braces I was wondering, do we think he wears them simultaneously?? The refs don't perfectly line up perspective-wise so it's hard to tell but parts of the one he wears during the Hexcore scenes look like they could maybe line up with the brace that he wears over his clothes, but also some parts really don't and look like they'd be super uncomfy. Also HOW does he take these on and off. Experts weigh in

I really should should draw Kendra more considering her's and Donnie's dynamic was one of the first things I came up with for the AU. I've already brought up how Donnie first met Kendra in this comic right here, but not really what happens after that.

But basically, because they meet way earlier in the AU, they basically manage to befriend each other. Kendra is really intrigued in general by Donnie because man it's not every day you meet a mutant turtle, then they figure out that they're both tech nerds and suddenly they're friends. It's just that their friendship actually consists of them larping being mortal enemies cuz they think it's fun and also they're weird. They're both very competetive so they will battle each other as a way to show off and test their new tech XD at the same time they will just hang out regularly sometimes and exchange tips and ideas. Donnie and Kendra being pals eventually leads to Jeremy and Jason finding out about Donnie and the whole turtle thing, so then they all start hanging out XD

old polish* names are metal as fuck, cause they can literally mean something like "the destroyer of peace" (Kazimierz), "the rage has come"(Przybygniew), "the one that praises killing/murdering" (Morzysław), "the one that does not know peace" (Nieznamir), or, my personal favorite, "the one that avenges his comrades" (Mściwoj).

it gets even more badass - because the pre-christian slavic traditions and language were rather poorly documented, and throughout history, there have been attempts to erase the records, we can't actually know for sure what exactly some of them were supposed to mean, or how were they used. we're left with names that could belong to a demonic antagonist in a fantasy book, their sound harsh, their origin shrouded in mystery.

*many of those are names in other slavic languages, too, but i'm talking specifically old polish names because i am polish and that's the language i know the most about.

My solution to the gay fanfiction problem:

When you use a name, your brain is going to assume the next pronouns will be referring to that name. You reset it by using a name again. Mileage may vary on this, but it helps. For example:

"John opened the door and entered his apartment. After a long day at work, he was in a terrible mood, and he threw his keys down on the table violently. Hearing a gasp, he looked over and realized Jack was sitting there, his eyes wide in surprise and a half spilled drink in his hand. John immediately apologized and explained his back was hurting again, and Jack nodded his sympathy."
