OKAY YK WHAT THONKING ABOUT ARO CARRIE NOWW... I think shed reach a point in her adult life where she realises 'wait im an adult.. The few civillian friends i have are moving out of their parents homes and getting into relationships.. Hmmm' and she brushes the thought aside cos shes batman.. Whyd she have time to move out.. Her and boss got goons to take down yk?? But then she thinks more on it and she realises the idea is so completely unappealing. Move in with some random guy?? But the idea of living alone also feels alien because shes grown up surrounded by the batboys and boss.

Anyway point being: carrie literally just lives with her kinda-dad (bruce) her whole life and bruce never brings it up that it is atypical out of fear that carrie will move out when he does

YES UES YES YOU GET IT. carrie ABSOLUTELY lives w bruce n the batboys. in bruces mind it's just like. dick lived w him jason lived w him why wouldn't carrie live w him? ofc we don't know what happened 2 dick 2 cause the rift btw him n bruce n we know jason died well before he was at moving out age and carrie. she like has a civilian life but it's more just to fill time btw training n detective work n patrol. her friends who aren't even slightly in the know she just says that she has a really demanding night job.

we think she probably keeps an appt in the city just 2 sleep + eat in 2 lessen her commute and that's where she takes friends. in the eyes of her friends she isn't weird for not having moved out bc they think she already has. n accounting for the amount of time she would be on the phone/comm. link for info drops + other work stuff, it wouldn't be hard 2 assume that she's actually texting a partner instead of scheduling an ambush w the flash.

we don't think she'd mind being alone, given her bio parents, but she definitely prefers company. she would HATE dating though. the idea is so far from her mind it's unreal.

we don't think it would be bruce who brings the subject up 2 her tho. it would be like clark or barry, maybe even lara if they're close enough at this point. it would absolutely catch her off guard and she wouldn't know how 2 respond (which she would be ashamed of, bruce taught her better than this)

we're of the opinion that she only thinks of sex and romance in the abstract. she knows that bruce used to play the part of seductive playboy, and she knows that clark and diana didn't will lara into existence, but she doesn't really think about it any further than that. she doesn't give nudity a second thought either. she's seen bruce naked, and bruce has seen her naked, nothing more to it. (she's also seen barry and ray palmer, and she doesn't make a peep abt either) she doesn't really get why people make such a fuss about it.

we also headcanon bruce 2 b aroace as well, so that only reaffirms her worldview. he kissed selina bc that's Just What People Do, and carrie wasn't squeamish abt that either bc that's just Normal Affection. whenever any of the batboys fall for someone she's just like "yeah ok cool did you complete your drills." she knows, logically, that clark and diana are In Love, and that's why they cling to each other so much, but beyond that she doesn't think about it.

HOWEVER. if the conversation of moving out ever came up between them carrie would spiral. she would start to read malcontent in actions that were previously just neutral. bruce doesn't want 2 talk 2day? before, it's just cuz he was tired or overstimulated or was working on a hard case and needed the quiet. now, there's a reason for her to think it's because she's dissatisfied or frustrated with her. it would definitely end in sobbing and bruce having to explain that he obv never valued what was normal anyways, and no he does not want her gone. he is, however, famously bad at communicating so this would take awhile

world building cause twn doesn't part 4: elves!

everyone loves elves! they're a fantasy genre mainstay, archery is so sexy, and they have those E A R S. plus, they play a pretty important part in the witcher universe!

i'd recommend going through the last parts, or at least the tl;dr's first

elves arrived on the continent about 2000 years before humans, and are divided into 5 distinct cultures of varying importance: aen undod, aen elle, aen seidhe, black seidhe, and aen woedde

elves only came to the continent in one group, but not all of that group stayed. the different branches based on where they settled make up the different cultures

the main two languages in the witcher are common speech and elder speech (aka hen llinge), the former used by most humans and the latter used by the elder races

aen undod

the aen undod are the oldest elven culture, having existed years before the conjunction of spheres

their home world faced some huge catastrophe, so the aen undod left in search of new worlds, leaving their descendants to become all the future elven cultures.

the aen undod spoke the oldest dialect of elder speech, laith aen undod, or one speech

aen elle

the aen elle use a language derived from hen llinge called ellylon, in which their name means "of the alders"

they don't actually live on the continent, having abandoned it years ago for their own world.

however, when the aen elle arrived in this new world, it was already populated by humans and unicorns. unfortunately, these elves are notoriously ruthless and both the native species were eradicated.

the capital of the aen elle world is tir ná lia, and is described as stunningly beautiful, featuring open air buildings made of marble, alabaster, and malachite. here it is in the third witcher video game, by djkovrik on nexus. their screenshots are amazing btw.

the ruler of the aen elle was auberon muircetach, king of the alders and aen saevherne (aen saevherne is the honorary title of an elven mage who has extensive knowledge of magic, geneology, history, and many other subjects). auberon was also ciri's 5 times great grandfather. this gwent card pretty much sums up his vibe: scary yet sexy.

auberon's consort was another aen elle named shiadhal, with whom he had one daughter, lara dorren. lara is so so so important for the witcher, as she is the beginning of the elder blood, or hen ichaer.

hen ichaer is a gene that carries incredibly powerful magic, and those who have it are usually sources. i talk more abt this in part 3.

for better or for worse, lara dorren fell in love with a human sorcerer, cregennan of lod, and left tir ná lia for him. auberon took this as cregennan "stealing" his daughter and therefore the hen ichaer, and developed a pretty hefty vengeance and dedication to "take back" what was his (yikes).

this also set a precedent of people "claiming" the lives of carriers of the hen ichaer

auberon also formed an elven cavalry known as the red riders or wild hunt (dearg ruadhri in ellylon) and he appointed eredin bréacc glas as their commander. the initial purpose of the wild hunt was to travel to different worlds and capture slaves for tir ná lia, although they later became auberon's tool to find and exploit carriers of hen ichaer.

the wild hunt also uses specially trained mages known as navigators to open portals to other worlds, the most notable of these navigators is caranthir ar-feiniel, who doubled as one of eredin's most trusted men.

the aen elle also live a pretty long time, average is around 650 years, so the timelines are kinda hard to keep track of.

notable aen elle include: auberon muircetach, shiadhal, lara dorren, eredin breácc glas, crevan espane aep caomhan macha (aka avallac'h, also an aen saevherne and lara dorren's ex), caranthir ar-feiniel (also avallac'h's foster son), ge'els (the viceroy of tir ná lia), and imlerith (general of the wild hunt)

aen seidhe

put simply, the aen seidhe are the elves that did not leave when the aen elle did

the aen seidhe don't really have a society like the aen elle, they're pretty dispersed across the world. but, there are certain areas the aen seidhe have claimed as their own.

one of these little civilizations is dol blathanna, also known as the valley of flowers. unfortunately, it's not an independent state, as it was conquered by aedirn in the 1150s. however, then-king baldwin thyssen did allow the elves to retain a lot of their cultural identity and live in peace.

dol blathanna includes the village posada and the capital silver towers, which is where filavandrel aén findháil is from. he's that sexy man right there

outside of dol blathanna, there aren't really any places where elves can live with minimal human interaction, although the blue mountains are home to a few incredibly powerful elves

side note: dol blathanna is technically part of the blue mountains, but is in the far southern foothills so they're usually treated as separate entities.

the blue mountains are also a natural border dividing the northern kingdoms from the far east, and where filavandrel went to live after he got fed up with dol blathanna.

they're also the home of ida emean aep sivney, who's also an aen saevherne and future member of the lodge of sorceresses.

next season, we're going to meet the beautiful elven sorceress francesca findabair, also known as enid an gleanna (hen llinge for daisy of the valley)

here she is with fringilla vigo (nilfgaardian sorceress) in twn season 2. note that enid is preggers! that's very odd and i will go into detail on it later

enid is crazy interesting and important for the story of the witcher (and confirmed for season two!), so i won't go too in depth about her now

as i mentioned in part 2, nilfgaard tends to favour elves, leading to a lot of militaristic forces allied with nilfgaard. most notably, the scoia'tael, or squirrels. the scoia'tael are an incredibly ruthless and effective nonhuman guerilla force, generally divided into commandos, units that patrol a given area and eliminate the northern (or simply human) threat.

there are a lot of scoia'tael, so i'll just give you the commanders for now: angus bri cri, coinneach dá reo, iorveth, isengrim faoiltiarna, riordain, and toruviel.

you might remember toruviel as this sexy angry lady from twn, and she is possibly going to get a much bigger role later... pay attention to toruviel.

the scoia'tael were very well organized, but also quite dispersed, so when nilfgaard needed more specific tasks done, they would assemble specific military units (usually led by some of our favourite squirrels)

the vrihedd brigade was the most important of these units. they were especially notorious for their cruelty in the second northern war, so i'm sure we'll meet at least a few members next season.

their leader was colonel isengrim faoiltiarna (aka the iron wolf), and his officers coinneach, iorveth, riordain, and angus.

francesca findabair is not directly involved with either the scoia'tael or the vrihedd brigade, but she does work quite closely with them very often.

also important to note that not all scoia'tael are aen seidhe elves, most (including all higher ranking commanders and officers) are, but there are a number of nonhumans including dwarves and halflings.

unfortunately, the aen seidhe are slowly going extinct, both from years of genocide from humans and their slow reproductive cycles (elves live a Long time, but can only have children towards the beginning of their lives)

that's why it's so surprising to me that enid is preggers! we don't exactly know her age, but by my calculations she was over 150 in twn (pretty far past the age elves can have children).

because of this, elves are pretty divided between fighting against human rule and seeking coexistence. there are arguments for both camps, mainly that humans are colonizers and should not be trusted for the former, and that elves are dying out already and need to live with humans to survive for the latter.

the most prominent stand for the fight was in the 1060s when an aen seidhe named aelireen led an uprising against humans. most of the elders told her that it wouldn't end well, but she didn't listen and led hundreds of young elves into battle. it was an utter massacre, and basically all elves who could have children died.

yikes

unfortunately, the movement for coexistence was just as unsuccessful. it was led by our man cregennan of lod, lara dorren's husband. the poor simp just wanted to live in peace with his wife, but a lot of humans thought he was a traitor because he married an elf, and he and lara were murdered in 1137 in redania.

the last real push for independence was with the formation of the scoia'tael in the 1260s. I say 1260s because the very beginnings of the scoia'tael were right around 1262-1236 (the start of ciri's timeline) but they became majorly important around 1267. although, even the scoia'tael realized they needed humans to survive and began working with nilfgaard.

however, some scoia'tael are less keen on being nilfgaard's attack dogs, leading to further division amongst the aen seidhe.

black seidhe

remember the elves i talked about in part 2 as being the ancestors of the albans? this is them!

the black seidhe are native to the south, more particularly the valley around the alba river. they are practically extinct, but the nilfgaardians carry a lot of their cultural identity in the nilfgaardian language, a variation of hen llinge.

aen woedde

the wood elves, or aen woedde, is the elven culture we know the least about, they primarily live in the areas around nilfgaardian forests and speak hen llinge.

the only notable wood elf is aenyeweddien, or iskra, a member of the rats, a gang of semi violent youths in the northern realms. we'll learn more about the rats in future seasons.

tl;dr: elves, especially the aen seidhe and aen elle cultures, make up a large part of witcher lore. they are most notable for their long lifespans, magical and historical knowledge, and militaristic alliances with nilfgaard.

@arysthaeniru​ tagged me in a writing projects meme the other week!  <3 She did it for her pathologic fic so I will too!  unexpectedly I have a lot more time suddenly since the whole world is locked down/locking down, and I’m not totally sure how much writing i will get done in that time depending on how my own internal pendulum swings on being overwhelmed by existential shit but i have been working on stuff this week and thinking abt a lot more :D

I do a lot of my writing at night, the fic writing often in the like hour or two after I finish ‘business’ writing like working on thesis stuff or w/e; sometimes I do it on my phone in bed lmao  I also do it on the bus a fair amount, on my phone.  Getting snippets down between tasks helps me not think about it too much and get caught up in doubt.  Going out to coffeeshops and writing is also one of my favorite activities.  Right now I’m mostly doing it in my bed though!

I really like to find music for my fics and a lot of my fics are inspired by/fueled by music; i love to carefully curate playlists for like everything i’m working on/into and so of course i have a bunch of pathologic playlists :D  my favorite is my eva + her lovers playlist (andrey, dankovsky, yulia, peter, etc)  but i also have a artemy/stakh/grief/lara/generally pathologic 2 playlist  and a few others 

as for projects!

- I’m working on writing the last few scenes of the second part of tangle and sever a fic about pre-pathologic 2 stakh and grief and the fraying of their relationship and anger born of worry and incompatible worldviews and self-righteousness and gross medical things and also lara is there now too?

- there’s a pathologic 1 lara/yulia fic in my drafts that will probably be called small hypocrisies that is lara and yulia talking in the aftermath of the Pathologic 1 Bachelor ending and deals with loss and anger and suicidality and their clashing worldviews and disdain for each other’s ideology (recently replayed the beginning of p1 bachelor route and I forgot how much lara and yulia politely shit-talk each other’s ideologies) and lara’s role of care-taking for the people of the town and how awkward and bitter it is to try and fulfill that role with yulia in that moment and instead get in a really bitter argument abt the unresolved matter of yulia trying to co-opt lara’s assassination attempt .  and sort of how they both end up in similar spots in that ending: surviving, having not expected to.

- really self-indulgent post-pathologic 2 artemy hurt/comfort fic!  I was itching to write this the whole time playing pathologic 2; something about artemy getting sick just from like having run himself into the ground for the whole plot and his friends taking care of him.

- vague plans to write something about post-pathologic 2 clara and grace’s uneasy relationship as sort-of adopted sisters (depending how much the saburovs have or haven’t discarded clara and how much grace does or doesn’t want to be the saburovs’ daughter) and the two of them learning to share worlds and deal with the changed world and their relationships with their abilities and the town and the other important people in their lives like block and peter (toying with making andrey dead in this like he died in my playthrough).  but also I’m not sure I understand clara enough to write about her yet!

- more eva fic!  I have so many eva feelings!  something following up her storyline in after me comes the flood, maybe, about her coming back to town-on-gorkhon and finding her place in the town again; something with snippets of her relationships with all her lovers; something about her in the aftermath of pathologic 2?  

- i have a scrap of a fic i started writing way back when I first finished the p1 bachelor route about that scene in p1 right after Dankovsky saves Peter and gets almost executed by Block’s soldiers in Andrey’s place, when he comes into Andrey’s bar and Andrey is like Dankovsky you and me and Peter are three sides of one coin come to the Capital with us!!  because that scene is so absolutely wild emotionally and there’s so much There I’m interested in digging deeper into.  That fic also has snippets of Dankovsky and the Stamatins’ previous run-ins with each other as students.  i’m not sure where it’s going and I haven’t worked on it in a while because i think i got stuck on how much it would fit for Dankovsky and Andrey to have known each other and if it makes sense for Dankovsky to have known peter at all because I’m not totally sure what the game implies

- i also have a scrap of fic of p1 fic of peter talking to eva’s manifestation in the cathedral but i don’t know if that will go anywhere

- to go with that, victor’s whole line about eva almost being a soul who can almost hold/create a focus, if only she wasn’t so obsessed with death?  something about that and the fate of eva’s manifestation / her having some sort of autonomy in her cathedral-focus-existence

- I love the children’s societies in pathologic and I want to write something about them and Victoria and Notkin and Khan but I’m not sure what it might be yet

OKAY SO, first off, Pico's definitely one of the first to witness her being more openly expressive with her masc identity. I feel like she was very hesitant at the start but after being surrounded by a really supportive group of people (basically my fnf f/o's), she becomes a lot more open abt it

Lara can shapeshift☝️ she's an angel, ofc she can HSJAHDJSH so she tries playing around with physically altering her body to a more masculine one. She doesn't look too different but there are definitely still some small differences

^ Pico is quite surprised at first to witness this, but he welcomes it nonetheless ("thank fuck I'm bi"). He becomes pretty flirty with her bc of it, mostly as a way to show that he doesn't rlly mind whatever gender Lara takes form in and supports it wholeheartedly

Calls her by your typical masc terms: handsome, pretty boy, mr., sir, boyfriend, you know the drill. But when it comes to pronouns, Lara personally doesn't mind being called by he/him, but tends to default back to she/her still bc it's what she's used to. It doesn't remove or lessen her masc identity tho! (Pronouns ≠ gender type scenario)

The same goes for the others (my platonics basically)! I like thinking that Nene would start calling Lara "king" more often too, being her number one hype girl she is HSJAHDJSHD

Overall, they'll be helping her play around and try stuff out to help her branch out more with it!!

Likes being referred to with typical masc term, I'm sure that much is obvious. And his partners very much so oblige with it. He still does like playing around with his identity still tho! But tends to stick to a more masc one

the dopamine rush i needed: attending a con for the first time as jill

i went to my first anime/gaming convention today in my remake jill cosplay and it was so much fun! at first people didn’t really recognize me/thought i was lara croft but i was still having fun with my friends, but then later on i ran into some other re cosplayers!

i took pics with a HUNK cosplayer, on my way in a guy that thought i was lara said he was gonna be chris later on (i never crossed paths with him again tho lol), i saw a heisenberg and said hi but i felt too awkward to try and ask for a pic tho lol

we saw a super awesome aloy cosplayer (we told her she looked amazing but didn’t want to bother her to ask for a pic and i def didnt want to try and take one w/o her permission but omg she looked so good), i saw an advent children cloud cosplayer but same dealio lmao this rly nice person got excited when she saw me and asked for a pic, she said she almost came as ada 😭 apparently there was a leon cosplayer too but there was one point when we were all chilling in the hotel room for a couple hours cuz my friends were staying the whole weekend so i guess i missed him. :(

and then i got another compliment from another jill! or swimsuit version of jill lol cuz the con was at this resort that had a waterpark n stuff. she was telling me about the other re cosplayers cuz she saw an ada as well, and she said there was a carlos!! and apparently there was talk of all the resi cosplayers meeting and taking a group photo tomorrow but i had only planned on going today :( and initially we were gonna take a pic together i think? but we ended up just saying bye to each other lmao cuz i was telling her i was prob gonna have to miss it

at this point i thought abt maybe starting to head home since the rest of the group was gonna hang around and party and stuff since they were staying at the resort, but i decided to stick around longer and i’m glad i did bc lo and behold.....i found the carlos cosplayer!!!

he was talking w some other people so i got nervous trying to talk to him at first, but i really wanted to get at least one pic together, and thankfully he turned out to be super nice and was really excited by my jill costume lol! he was calling me supercop and stuff and it was so much fun. and another guy asked to take a pic of the two of us xD

we took pics and he got a video of us, he had carlos’ rocket launcher earlier in the day and we were joking we could’ve recreated the opening scene when they first meet if he still had it lol. and we were just vibing, it was such a great way to end the night finding the carlos to my jill. i really didnt think i’d find a carlos cosplayer 😩 i had my little carlos keychain attached to my costume the whole day lmao

i get off work kinda late tomorrow but i still thought of maybe still coming? but the pass for saturday is like 50 bucks cuz i think its the most popular day....so maybe if i can leave work early i’ll go, cuz i dont think 50 will be worth being there a couple hours since i do work kinda early the next day. so maybe sunday since its a little cheaper....

oh i also saw swimsuit version of vi, jinx, and caitlyn lol! and omg two of the people in my group were chica and roxy earlier in the day, and they both looked sooooo good! esp our roxy cosplayer, their wig was styled so well, so many people stopped to ask them for photos and stuff lol esp like the actual staff at the con

i also saw someone cosplaying as the cowboy hero in ovw but it got super awkward cuz when i was about to call out to him to say hi i almost accidentally used the old name.....and by the time i was going to correct myself we’d already walked past him rip

next time there’s a con i’d love to whip up jill’s og stars uniform, and go as tifa as well :3 i wish i’d requested off more/planned to go multiple days but i was saving my last vacation day for my birthday :\ but still, even tho this is one of the smaller cons it was such a fun experience. i didnt even care that much about events and stuff, it was just so much fun seeing all the different ppl and being able to nerd out with friends

oh flaskdjfasldkjf I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS TO HASH OUT ABT THIS EPISODE. “Dallas” was very much a spiritual sequel to “He Gone,” and this episode expands on a lot of the themes of intergenerational conflict and familial strife from s1 we see reflected in the Saint’s story, in Cassidy and Denis’ relationship and Tulip’s reaction to it (given the loss of her own biological child and her relationship with Allie), and in the connections to Jesse’s past - both his fear of damnation and its link to what he felt he did to his father as well as his Angelville connections. 

but anyway, to address your actual questions lol, Jesse was being a RAT in that scene lol but he honestly doesn’t realize how little he apologizes for his actions, or that he even owes an apology. it took him Tulip reminding him in the s1 finale for him to actually apologize for his treatment of her in He Gone (and much like in that episode we see the worst of Jesse in some parts of the episode here…but also the best of him - he was very heroic as well)! I’ve seen a lot of stuff in the tags like “oooo look at cass being manipulative of his own volition again!!” when like…he said one thing and it was clearly in response to jesse treating him badly again. not that that it makes it ok but…these things are obviously linked and not many people make that connection. that was true last episode too, both within the context of the episode itself and joe’s comments on it. 

I think Allie was confused. The SoK forces people to tell the truth, so if they don’t, it’s simply because they don’t remember. I don’t think we’re done with Allie, though - I imagine we’ll see her again. 

Ruth talks about Tulip’s reaction to the SoK here and in the post linked therein. Based on that and my own reading of the scene and Ruth’s interpretation, I think this is about Tulip having to deal with the reality of mortality bc she isn’t able to be resourceful like she normally is when faced with something like the Saint, but that’s certainly not all there is to it. “It’s really interesting because people see her as this badass who’s totally in control. But to me, that’s her armor and her way of making sure she doesn’t get hurt. I think you increasingly see that come apart in this season and her coming to terms with her frailty as a human being. The Saint of Killers is her history coming to haunt her. He’s the embodiment of all those things she hasn’t dealt with that you can’t use your fist against. When all you know is how to fight, how do you come to terms with that?“ That’s something Ruth said before the season even premiered.

Her “frailty as a human being” is I think mostly tied to her fear of abandonment and constant sense of displacement ever since she was a child being shunted around to different foster homes. It’ll hurt seeing her deal with stuff like the actual trauma of her carefully constructed backstory that it’s easy to see deeply affects her in same the way Jesse’s does him. She’ll be confronting things she may never have if this hadn’t happened to her. Also, notice that the SoK has not actually touched anyone else the way he has Tulip. So something supernatural and chilling happened there that the others haven’t been exposed to.

It would be great to get a flashback about young Denis and Cassidy - I nearly cried in the scene where Cassidy told Tulip he was his son. Joe (and Ruth’s) acting in that scene was phenomenal, as was their acting (and Dom’s!!!! holy hell) throughout the whole episode. This is definitely one of my favorite episodes ever, in terms of both character and relationship and thematic development as well as worldbuilding.
