Unlocking Success: How to Be Better at (Almost) Everything
💡 What if you don’t have to be the best at one thing to succeed?
Pat Flynn’s How to Be Better at (Almost) Everything redefines success by promoting generalism—the art of becoming good at multiple complementary skills rather than mastering just one. This approach, also known as skill stacking, allows you to stand out by creatively combining your talents to build a competitive edge.
🛠️ Key Concepts:
Don’t aim for perfection—80% competence in a skill is often enough.
Combine skills like communication, creativity, and problem-solving for unique opportunities.
Focus on learning strategies like deliberate practice and short-term specialization.
✨ Why It Matters: This book is perfect for anyone who feels stuck in the “specialist trap” or wants to thrive in a world that rewards adaptability and creativity. It’s not just about being good—it’s about learning how to combine skills to create something extraordinary.
📚 Who Should Read It? Whether you're an entrepreneur, a student, or someone looking to grow, Flynn’s strategies offer a roadmap for achieving success without the pressure of being the best at everything.
✍️ Want a deeper dive? Check out my full review of How to Be Better at (Almost) Everything on my blog, PRT Novelist! I break down the key lessons and share how you can apply them to your own life.

Could not verify but it’s said that it was Mark Twain who said something like “If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.” In another version it’s something like “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” I heard it in MOOC – Learning How to Learn as “eat your frog first”. Doing the most difficult job of the day, or of the week for Monday for example, will help you in stopping procrastination, and will help you in having a more positive and relax approach for rest of the tasks of the day. Your frog might be your least liked task or the task you are not very good at. And, please eat your frog only metaphorically, and leave alll animals off your plate. #learnedtoday #bugünöğrendim #bugunogrendim #timemanagement #zamanyönetimi #procrastination #erteleme #personaldevelopment #kişiselgelişim #inspirationalquotes #dailyinspiration #inspiration #success #business #personalgrowth #dedication #mooc #learningtolearn #learninghowtolearn #marktwain #eatyourfrogfirst #öncekurbağınızıyiyin #taskmanagement #motivation #entrepreneur #quote #productivity #planner #business #quoteoftheday #quotes #time #goodmorning #todolist #todo #planning #thingstodo #goals

Workshop skills today, it took our team a second to work out what’s what and I’m still not sure know if we know the difference between a drywall, a decking and an eyebolt but it was fun understanding the strength and mechanics of putting different fixing and materials together.

Model Making
Friday 8th February ‘19
This Friday we had a model making demonstration by Tim Bailey.
We began the session by reading through two booklets regarding model making and the tools needed to create a good model. Tim talked us through the best way to cut foam board in order to get a nice smooth edge. This actually helped me a lot as I often struggle to cut foam board in a perfect way that he achieved.
Tim then proceeded to construct a set structure with equal sizes of foam board. After observing for some time, we set out to create our own foam board set models. I started by cutting a foam board piece 15cm X 15cm which would be the base, followed by another two pieces. I made sure that one piece was 5mm smaller than the other on length as when constructed it would hang over the edge of the base otherwise.

After constructing the main frame, I then cut small supports to go around the edges of the base where I would then place another base piece on top of. This would act as a stage section where I could possibly install lights underneath the base.

I was shown a great but simple tip by Tim when it comes to applying glue to foam board. He said it’s incredibly easier to apply the glue with your finger as it can be controlled a lot more. This helped my model making a great deal as when too much glue is applied, it definitely ruins the model and surfaces of the model.

The final part to the model making session was to simply add a bit more ‘oomph’ to the model in order to make it look more like a set rather than just some foam board walls.

Overall, I absolutely loved this session as model making and working at a smaller scale is something that I love to do. I also learnt lots of skills in this session such as the glue trick and I feel more confident about cutting foam board now. I also believe that I have gained some skills which would help me to create a great foam board model if needed.

This morning we had a site visit to GK Gallery in Salford. It's a beautiful space that the owners have proudly created as a family. They have great links within the community showcasing work from many local sources.
We recorded all the materials found and note to self, becareful with reusable coffee cups for spilling. I will have to type up the notes made on 17 different materials found to create the interior.

Learning to learn.
“Nowadays there are no limits to learning. We evolved from the previous era where knowledge was finite, where learning was a privilege only few had access to. The 21st century provides us the infinite accessibility to knowledge with only just a click.
In this journey, we need to learn how to learn and where to find what we are looking for instead of trying to obtain all the knowledge in the world.
We should rely on the firm belief that learning is a gift that not only enrichens us as human beings, but it also becomes a gift which we can share with others developing a lifetime commitment to the continuous strive for perfection.”

Having a dog that is scared of things other dogs may just walk by can be time consuming and frustrating. This ia a video of one of the things we do in #PrivateCoaching and in #classes to build self-confidence. In extreme cases like this we make sure to do their training and play in Private Coaching. This pretty girl is a grown adult breeder that was rescued from "puppy mill" conditions.😞 She is scared to come to you, scared when you reach for her or lean over her, and scared we are going to do something bad when we are teaching her something new. It took two weeks, but she did it! She put her front feet on the pedestal! 🙌 Next time we will try to get her to put all four feet on the stool! #TrainingTip ❗ Get out a couch pillow, cushion, step stool, or even a broom handle and see if you can get your scared pup to put their feet on or over (with the broom handle)...Can you get them to put all four feet on the item? (Obviously not the broom😂) When they feel #moreconfident and conquer this in the house, go outside and find random things to try. 💪 Building self-confidence traches them how to think a bit on their own which in turn lowers their anxieties about what may happen next.
