Physical Education Fitness Using the Internet, a physical education teacher can work to promote a healthy, fitness-focused lifestyle with his or her school class by having the kids create blogs that documents their fitness activities. This is a unique way to incorporate writing and technology skills with forcing the students to document their fitness activities. Promoting walking to school is an excellent method of incorporating fitness into one's daily routine. As the majority of students are unable to drive, walking is a realistic option. Putting together regular fitness events for the school, both inside and outside of P.E. class, is a method of adding a unique twist of fun and competition to the idea of being physically active. Each event can focus on a specific activity or skill, thus teaching a well-balanced fitness routine. Since families play an essential role in a child's overall fitness, it is equally important to educate them on fitness. One simple way to accomplish this is by organizing family fitness nights. Students should be given a personal log and an instrument in which they can measure their total steps per day. They can the record their total activity against their total consumption. Health: As childhood obesity is the greatest health risk faced by elementary children, it is important that classroom time is spent addressing this topic. In so doing, the focus should be both on the harmful effects of obesity and preventative measures that can be taken. Teaming up with a local Department of Human Services to discuss the importance of healthy and safe sexual choices is a must. Working with the local law enforcement drug taskforce can bring in aspects of how living a drug free life correlates with living a healthy lifestyle. When teaching these various health-related subjects to kids, because of their age, simply lecturing will not work. Further, many of these concepts will be foreign to them so background information will be needed. To ensure that the information is learned and understood, role playing, multi-media, guest speakers and small group conversations should be utilized. Sex education at this age can be difficult. Dividing the class between boys and girls may prove to be beneficial and more effective at getting the necessary information unique to each gender across. Physical Education In order to teach the skill of cooperation, the game of Helping Hands Tag can be used. This activity promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, cardio-respiratory endurance and special awareness. Using Team Jump Rope will teach both basic jumping and coordination skills, along with adding and subtracting. In this activity, students work together to predict how many jumps they can complete as a team per minute. At the end, they add up their totals and determine how close their predictions were. The game Space Invaders teaches students how to identify and successfully pass a ball to a receiver. For rules, visit www.pecentral.org/lessonideas/ViewLesson.asp?ID=5871 The game Basketball Bingo allows students to practice basketball chest and bounce pass skills. Students pair up and each pair is given a basketball and bingo card. Students find tasks cards that correspond with their bingo card. After completing the task, they mark their card and keep going until they get bingo. The game Catch 100 helps students with catching and throwing skills. Hoops our set on the floor and a different type of ball in each pair of hoops. One student goes to the hoop and throws the ball to the other person and so forth until they rotate do another type of ball. To incorporate learning states and capitals while also working on fine motor skills, a game of Geography Golf can be used. Like Frisbee golf, students work together to create holes that represent a state and capital. To improve left brain right brain cognitive abilities and eye hand coordination, the game of Sport Stacking can be used. This is the popular cup stacking game that now has contest around the country. To teach disability awareness, a wheelchair obstacle course can be used, requiring the students to negotiate around various items while using a wheelchair. To work on increasing lung capacity and endurance, along with aquatic skills, the game of Feeding Frenzy can be used. Here the students are sharks. At the bottom of the pool are various weighted objects. The students must swim to the bottom of the pool and retrieve the objects for points. To increase muscular strength and endurance, fun push ups help make the boring activity of push ups more fun. Flashback Fridays with BCD! “We kick off the last month of 2022 with #worldaidsday in remembrance of all our #lgbtqia plus unsung hero’s, and remembering that the war on AIDS has yet to be Won. Reflecting back to the year 1989, what an honor it was to have the opportunity to work with @keithharingfoundation as Master of Ceremonies for the @soundfactorynyc fundraiser for @actupny which was attended by everyone and landed me on the pages of November 1989 @andywarhol_archive issue of @interviewmag in his body paint. I dream of a day when my great grand nephews & nieces will ask Uncle B ‘What’s AIDS?’ But, until that time let’s keep our sleeves rolled up in our continued fight for Justice, Respect and the Dignity of ALL HUMAN LIFE!!!” - BCD •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #nonbinary #genderfluid #blackgayentrepreneur #worldaidsday #hiv #aids #hivawareness #aidsawareness #hivaids #aidsday #lgbteducation #schoolresources #lgbtresources #lgbteducators #lgbteducationinschools #lessonideas #primaryresources #primaryteacher #teachersfollowteachers #lgbt #equalityeducation #transawarenessweek #transkids #lgbtkidsbooks #lgbtchildrensbooks (at Chelsea, Manhattan) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClsFl7Nuf_7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Some students took the initiative to practice reading our fall poem, which we read together every day during our morning literacy meetings! Students have been learning to identify uppercase letters in the poem, as well as commas, exclamation marks, periods, and other text conventions! Yesterday, the students helped me come up with movements to go along with our poem - we can fall down to the ground just like our leaves!🍃📝#AutumnLeaves #Literacy #Poems #Poetry #leaves #teaching #FDK #kindergarten #kindergartenlesson #literacylesson #teachers #lessonideas

Building a Climate Change Unit Using ClassCraft
I have an idea for a unit that I want to build into the program “classcraft”. In my first lesson I introduce the overarching question for the unit: “How can YOU bring balance to Mother Earth and by doing so, help families who are at the front lines of the climate crisis?” For the culminating project, I want students to create a legend or story of the impact of climate change on future generations of First Nation’s Communities in Northern Ontario. Students can create this using the show-what-you-know model and use any sort of medium to present their story/legend. For one of the lessons we will go out and map out a plot of trees in the forest near the school. Students can use their phones to identify the species of trees using "Google Lens”. The purpose of the lesson is to determine how much carbon the trees are storing and to identify trees/biomass as a one main type of carbon sink. Students can reflect on this experience by writing/recording a reflection post in a google doc, or by posting in the stream on google classroom. Another idea I had for a lesson activity for this unit is to set up students with VR headsets and airpano.com (thank you Joanna M for the idea!) students to explore the different biomes in Canada.

Science meets Art! It’s fun changing the colour of white flowers by placing them in water containing food colouring. But, have you tried doing the same with vegetables? White cabbage and chicory work really well. They may not be as ‘pretty’ but the individual leaves can be arranged to make really striking displays. This is also a great way to demonstrate how the veins transport Water and food since the veins stein really well. I made a video showing how to carry out this experiment using white flowers which would be a good introduction for young children. It’s free and you can find it on my channel in the Science with Lizzie Witch Playlist. http://tinyurl.com/funjumbles. and also on my website (see Profile). #sciencefairproject #artmeetsscience #lessonideas #scienceisfun #changecolour #scienceforkids #artprojects

ECL310 WEEK 7 TUMBLR RESPONSE:
One of my goals this trimester has been to become more familiar with lesson planning and the scaffolding that is required behind lessons. Being able to choose, make use of the correct materials and resources can be very important as a teacher.
1. My first online resource is Teach Starter, a website that offers primary school resources that can help teachers find helpful engaging activities for their classroom. Which are Victorian curriculum aligned and easy to access. Teach starter is also available to download as an application on iOS and android for easy access.
This will be shared through the youtube link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7OdgebGiMU
2. The second of my resources also is an online website called scholastic teachables. this website provides many resources, mini books for literacy and ready to go lesson plans which can be set to year level, subject and skill level.
