By all accounts, Hunters Point Library has been an unmitigated success of architectural design on a municipal level. Michael Kimmelman of the New York Times called it “among the finest and most uplifting public buildings New York has produced so far this century.” The headline last week to Justin Davidson’s gushing review in New York Magazine unapologetically read, “The Hunters Point Library Was Too Expensive, and Is Worth It.”

But following the library's official opening last week, which drew more than 1,300 visitors, including Mayor Bill de Blasio, some members of the public have raised pragmatic issues with its fetching and costly design, namely that of accessibility.

#dm4h A week ago I bought myself books that are dear to me as a memory of my childhood. A whole series of books. Many years ago my sister gave me a book, which still lies in my desk with her signature. There was a whole story with that book, so I will always remember it. By the way, the book is "Wabi Sabi." Today I turned on a movie on netflix that told a story that was years ago and the main characters had a library room in their house. Such a wooden one with high ceilings and a huge window. I've been working in architecture since 2008 and in that time I've dealt with keeping books in the house a lot. I even did a concept in 2010 with books all over the walls. Although I haven't read a lot of books myself, there's a certain magic about books. Well, or maybe I'm getting old. Anyway, now I'm sending a signal "into space" to make a house with a huge library with a huge window and a comfortable chair. Find it, customer. PS And the photo (by @pavenin ) is of the project we finished earlier this year. Only 86m2, but even here we found a corner for the customer's favorite books. 💔 We decided to create #futurodreams to share with you our favorite projects! Nature was a key inspiration for the sleek City Library in Halmstad, Sweden, as Copenhagen-based architects schmidt hammer lassen designed what is fundamentally a unique open area that interacts with the surrounding foliage. Completed in 2006, its columns are intended to visually communicate with the nearby trees, with the atrium curving around a sizable chestnut on the site. The library's transparent glass and concrete façade allows visitors a glimpse at its facilities, which include a café and exhibition space.
